Chapter 4 - Revalations of Sorrow
#5 of Legends of Azell
It was dusk when the group finally made it to Kaiden. The peasants were wrapping up their day as the four adventurers trudged through the market place slowly. The streetlights flickered thanks to the light wind coming from the west. No one paid any attention to the four as they headed towards the cathedral in the middle of the town. As they came closer to the cathedral, Isaiah stops and turns to the rest of the group.
"I have to go you guys!" he said. It threw Rose off because it was the most serious he had been all day.
"Off to get your Arrows?" Malcalm asked calmly.
"Aye! That's what I am off to do!" he said as he kept slowly walked away.
Rose gave a gentle sigh of relief having finally being rid of the horn dog. The turned back to the cathedral as the group slowly entered. Inside the large granite building they saw stained glass windows with the twelve gods of the world who protect the world from the fiends of the world. Muriel, the valkyrie bear goddess of Justice, Isabella, the snow leopard goddess of mother love, Tybalt the rat god of wisdom, Turok, the tiger barbarian god of protection, Zane wolf god of the hunt, Sebastian the badger god of harvest, Ariel, otter goddess of the sea, Jade bobcat goddess of magic and mischief, Lucien the lion god of righteous battle and light, Micah god of the night, Xache the god of love, all leading to the middle window, a picture of Azell, the gold dragon creator god in the center window of the church.
Behind the Altar in front of the window of Azell, stands a wonderfully cheerful male thin-framed raccoon dressed in clerical robes with Azell's golden dragon symbol upon the front. He was preparing for the nightly mass when he looked up to the troupe that was approaching the Altar slowly. He instantly recognizes the three and quickly stops what he was doing to meet with the three.
"Rose, Malcalm, Even the wise prince Jordan!" he exclaimed as he takes Malcalm's paw in a friendly shake, "So good to see you again my friend!"
"Father Briar!" said the old rat as he shakes his hand gently. "It has been a while, how has Lioden fared since we've been gone?"
The father sighed gently and shakes his head, "Not Well, I'm afraid..." he sighed heavily. "King Marik has been driven mad with power recently, I fear he seeks to try and control the entire world of Azell."
The rat sighed heavily as he took his paw back, "Why do I have a feeling that Nigel had something to do with this?"
"I take it Nigel is the reason you return Malcalm."
"Yes, it is..." he said with a nod.
Rose sighed a bit and looked at the two who was obviously getting slightly perturbed, knowing full well she was being dragged along with Malcalm as part of his plans. She pulled off her hood and huffed. "When you two are done Father Briar, I would like to speak with you out the back door. I had some questions for you about how you found me."
With that, she quickly walked off towards a set of stairs that was in front of the Azell window. She slowly walked out the back door and out to the foyer behind the church. The church was on top of a grassy plateau and the foyer lead to the edge of it. Behind the city she got a view of Lindra, the capital city. She watched as the sun slowly began sink behind the church, she could see the skyline in front of her was purple with several spots of starts in the sky. She sighed heavily as she looked to the city with disdain; she though of what she was to do within. She was going have to kill Nigel Longfellow. She knew she could do it, she was the better assassin, the scar over his eye was proof of that.
She heard the door open from behind her. She quickly turned around to notice it was Jordan standing before her, and not Father Briar.
"Rose?" he said softly as he closed the door behind him. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. Just this whole 'killing Nigel' business threw me off. Wasn't expecting Malcalm to actually commission me for a job like that, so underhandedly." She said with a heavy sigh.
Jordan slowly took the railing beside rose and sighed, "I know it's underhanded, but he's right," he replied. "If Nigel does have anything with my crazy father, he needs to be taken out..."
Rose looked over to the Lion and nodded, "It must be done."
Suddenly, Jordan turned back to Rose and took a step closer. "I know you think you are Rose and aren't convinced that you are My Cecilia, but may I ask a favor of you?" he asked.
She turned to him and met his gaze with a curious look. "What would that be dear Lion?"
"Can I give you a kiss? Just one kiss is all I ask." He said as he took another step forward.
She blushed a bit and looked back towards the capital sheepishly. It was the first time anyone even wanted to kiss her, or even looked at her as a potential mate. She turned her head back and gave a gentle nod. "Alright, one kiss Jordan."
Jordan gave a gentle smile as he pulled the shorter fox into a loving embrace. Rose blushed even more, but thankful that Isaiah was around to see this. She closed her eyes and lowered her ears as she gently kissed the young prince. As their lips met, they slowly loose themselves in the moment, holding each other closely. Suddenly, Rose begins to see flashes of images in her mind, like old memories washing back over her; Images of the two of them in the private quarters belonging to the help within the palace. As these images flashed in her head, she suddenly pushed away with a look of bewilderment.
"Rose?" Jordan said with obvious concern.
"I... I remembered," She said as she looked back up to him. "I am Cecilia!"
Jordan upon hearing this news gently pulled the young rose into his arms. "You.? What did you remember?"
"I remember that night five years ago. The both of us making love that night! I..."
"You were part of the palace help," said a calm and fatherly voice.
The two suddenly turned to meet with Father Briar, who just came outside onto the voyeur. "Malcalm and I found you outside of the palace to begin with. We didn't think you were going to make it!"
"How bad was I?" Rose asked.
"That scar on your abdomen?" he asked. "You were cut wide open where your scar is now. And deep. It looked like they were trying to take an unborn child out of you..."
Rose had a look of utter horror. It all started to make sense now: Her loss of memory, the scar on her abdomen, Prince knowing recognizing her. Everything finally came together in this moment. The king had tried to kill her and her unborn child, and got rid of her thinking she was dead. She felt this sudden fury building up in her heart. Shockingly not over the fact that the king attempted to have her killed, but the fact that he may have killed her unborn child. Rose clenched her fist tightly as she growled loudly.
Jordan grew obviously concerned with Rose's sudden change. "Rose? What's wrong?"
She slowly turned towards the city and narrowed her eyes, with her ears falling back in anger. She gave one low growl of an answer to Jordan as she clenched her daggers. "King Marik will pay with his life..."
