Gateway: The Final Warning (7)
#9 of Gateway
The next installment of Gateway! :D
Okay, so I apologize with the lack of updates but I just finished a busy month so now my time is (Kinda-sorta) back! I know that it's been too long now that you may have forgotten what's going on, but if you take the short time to recap than that would make me feel better about being so late... which makes no sense :D I'm SORRY! XD Blargh.
Before you read, I would like to ask for comments o3o Because I'd like to know at this point how you think of the everything from the first chapter of Two worlds to now. I really am trying my best to become better for you :3 <3
Anyways, enjoy~!
Demetrius sighed as he sat cross legged on the edge of a rooftop apartment building, watching in silence as the first snowfall of December had finally arrived in New York City. Upon the snows decent into this world, Brook took the liberty before the season to order in a winter set of armour for the scouts, which the Husky was now grateful for. The Husky's fur coat he had would do fine alone, but a warrior wanted to keep as much heat as possible so he wouldn't get distracted by the chill of winter and mess up on any sparring session. As consisted with the previous summer armour, the winter set still kept the royal colors, black plating with sparkling gold rimming around the sharp edges. Though this time for the winter's sake, the armour now had a fuzzy hood attachment around the neck like a winters jacket and tight--but very light--gloves attached to the gauntlets for the paws comfort.
The armour may seem a bit too heavy by looks, but in actual reality it was lighter than the summer armour. At least, that's how Demetrius felt anyway with his experience in wearing both sets.
Suddenly Demetrius' thoughts streamed into the oblivion of his mind as he continued to watch the light snowfall stick to the wet surface below, the cold breeze picking up now. He wondered how his sister was doing at home with mother. Ever since the murder of the previous King--her husband--his sister fell into a deep depression. Her royalty as Queen was stripped from her name as her condition of being a widow affected her greatly, leaving her into a state of shock for years until mother decided it was time to take her back into her castle. Ever since she left the throne of Arella, there was to be a new King assigned to power.
Demetrius, being the highest ranking knight in the kingdom, was appointed to be the next royal heir to the throne (it also helped that his family came from a high royalty arc as well). Though, as much as the honor was greatly appreciated, he declined the offer. In honesty, he never felt he was good enough to be King, especially when all he knew in his line of work was to fight and protect, not to deal with political BS.
That left the next one down in the chain of command, Malik Basilik, a large Lion who took the offer with pride which was clearly no surprise to his ego. Demetrius never really knew Malik personally but so far his spot on the throne has become well-liked by the kingdom's people. He really made a difference compared to Alexander, which startled the kingdom's perspective of him immediately. One of the most noticeable achievements in being in power was the Knight Enforcement Act he created a year later after being appointed to throne, which by literal terms kept the citizens to be protected out of danger from potential threats whether it be a small or big situation. That was nine years ago though, now that the war has begun in the Human world where the Eternal forces threated the race of all Human beings, King Malik is now trying to extending the KEA to include the Human race as well.
Thus, the reason why Damien and Demetrius and a base of soldiers are residing in the Human world currently: To protect them from any threat, whether it is big or small.
As far as Demetrius was concerned, Malik was his King, and that's as close of a relationship they were ever going to get.
"Daddy, snow!"
Demetrius stared at the boy who opened the balcony doors to jump into the snow piling up on his balcony, his smile bright and infectious. The Husky lifted his hood up as the wind grew more powerful, his eyes never leaving the boy.
"Skylar, get in here," a women came and scooped the boy out of the snow and back into the apartment, "where are your shoes?" She slid the door closed and Demetrius was left in the silence once again, carrying the boy back into the warmth of his home.
It was hard to imagine that a powerful portal could generate from just a small, 4 year old child, but I guess that was the consequences of having a father who was previously engaged to a warrior from another world. Part of the reason why that child has that advantage is because of the Husky anyway...
The women smiled as Kevin entered the living room, his smile bright when he saw his son in the arms of her... Still! Demetrius doesn't know anything about this women or why she enters Kevin's home without warning. How did they meet? What's so special about her? What does she have that he doesn't? All these questions just piled into his head but the worst one that never left his mind was: What is she to Kevin?
Demetrius could taste the jealousy in his mouth, which shocked him because this type of emotion was completely foreign to the Husky.
She smiled back at Kevin, giving him a peck on the cheek quickly and running out of sight. Kevin grinned wickedly and ran after her in response.
Demetrius sighed sadly again, his heart scrunching up like a sponge and his face looking hurt.
Everything would have been perfect if she wasn't around... Damien was right, ten years really has been way too long. Demetrius had to come to the realization he never wanted to think of: He's lost Kevin, completely.
"Wha--wha--what..."
The second Damien looked into the Fox's eyes he was out of bed in a nanosecond, the morning breeze from the open window sending in an uncomfortable chill to the Tiger's obvious nakedness. The shivers that went up his spine should have been from the cold dampness of the room but instead it was from the awkwardness that was clearly standing in between the two.
Luc bolted upright in bed, the light baby blue bed sheet covering only half of his naked body in the lower region of his waist, he propped up on one arm and used his other hand to hold out, "No wait--this isn't what it looks like!" His ears flattened, his body tightening from the weird unnecessary view of the now naked Tiger.
"Oh really," Damien scoffed and flustered, his face under his fur must have been red as an apple by now, "Than explain to me why you're in my bed, naked. And why I was naked with you."
"We didn't do anything! Well..." He replied eagerly, but his last word seemed a little unsure, which made Damien want to throw up. What in god's name was happening?
"Well? What do you mean well?" Damien snapped and his memory flooded in like a hangover from a night of drinking. His head started to pound on his temples.
"You don't remember what happened?" He questioned after he took a moment to get his mind caught up with all the commotion displaying in front of his morning grogginess.
The worst part was Damien did know what happened last night and didn't want to even consider playing it through his mind right now, but even if he tried to avoid the thought it wasn't enough to keep the recap movie replaying over and over in his head like a broken record...
...Damien stepped into his room after his shower last night, his black and orange stripped fur glistening in the spot light lit room, the lower half of his body covered with a white towel the scouts stole from clothes lines out in the city. The worst part about this warehouse being the central base for the Alliance soldiers had to be the water heating, for a Tiger to shower in a cold temperature environment was like throwing him in the miserable rain outside. It was cruel! Still though, he wasn't going to complain about the simple water. He may be a royal knight for the King himself, but he wasn't a royal pain in the ass.
_ He found his bed on the opposite side of the door, his under garments resting on the surface and his warm tea already prepared on the nightstand beside it. Believe it or not, Damien was a man for tea and he didn't care who made fun of him for it. His father, anyway, raised him on it when he helped with the tea shop, so he took a liking to it after a while. He suddenly found himself grinning at the thought of his father and the tea shop, and took a quick sip from the mug._
_ Next, he removed the towel and tossed it on the floor next to the door, a wind of dust picking up from the concrete flooring. The base may be old, but it sure does make a great place to hide in. After slipping on some boxers a minute later, his door lightly knocked, his orange ear flicking to the intrusion in the silence._
_ "Who is up this late?" He whispered softly to himself, peering out the window and seeing it was completely dark outside save for the illuminating halogen street lights from the pier._
_ After the second knock, Damien walked to the door and opened it enough to peer out._
_ "Hey..."_
_ For a second Damien had to squeeze his eyes shut for them to quickly adjust to the sight of Luc standing in front of his door in the dark, his faint blue eyes gazing up into the Tigers. Suddenly he was finding himself taking a mental note of the Fox's height: roughly about 5:9? 5:10? He shook his to erase the image of Luc, his mental conscience kicking Damien in the face to stop thinking about another male._
_ "Luc..." He said abruptly, his expression questioning the thought of why he was awake at this hour, "What are you doing here?"_
"What? No 'hey' back?" He grinned and his white teeth glowed from the reflection of the halogen lights outside his window, making Damien look more closely at the Fox. Luc wore a light brown tunic with black baggy pants, the leg bottoms dragging behind his bare feet.
_ Damien laughed a little and apologized, "Sorry, just surprised to see someone up this late at night besides the guards on duty." He smiled and opened the door fully, not caring about what he was wearing in front of the Fox now._
_ Luc's eyes shifted down but quickly shot back to the Tiger's yellow-gold emeralds, his expression blank and unreadable as usual so Damien simply dismissed any caring thought for him. It may have sounded harsh now but Luc will talk to Damien when he's ready, or if... "Yeah sorry," He started, "Just... can't sleep... It just... really hurts."_
_ Bingo._
_ In the whole time Damien was a warrior for the King he has never seen Luc shed a tear till now, his blue eyes glistening with fluid that Damien reacted immediately and held out his hand to welcome the Fox into his room. Luc questioned the hand a little and remained on his spot for a minute before accepting the paw, stepping into the room._
_ "Hey," Damien said softly, "Hey, no, no, no, no, no." He squeezed the paw and closed the door, yanking the red Fox into his arms for a comforting hug, his arms tightly wrapping around his shoulders._
_ Luc tensed all his muscles and was taken off guard by the gesture, his fur standing on all ends as the large Tiger held his muzzle under the crook of his neck, a soft purring sound emanating from the bulky throat. For some reason the Fox couldn't find the strength to push away, after everything that's happened today he's just felt lost...broken...shattered..._
_ Destroyed..._
_ So he just gave up, his nagging homophobia that was cursing in his head moved aside and ignored as he closed his eyes to give into his friend's hug, a tear escaping down his cheek ruff._
_ "I miss him so much... Why? Why'd he have to go off alone? He could have come to me first." He sobbed heavily but tried to keep it muted as possible to make no alarm to everyone on base, his emotions taking over and revealing for the first time to someone he considered a friend now._
_ Over what, though? They hardly knew each other well before his brother was murdered and ever since Damien came to him at the pier his trust level suddenly sky rocketed for the Tiger. Was it because Damien showed affection and acted as a real friend?_
"I know... I know, I'm so sorry, I wish there was another way." Damien softly petted his neck fur, trying his hardest to comfort the Fox.
That was when it happened...
_ Luc choked up and slowly moved his head away from the Tiger's neck, his blue sky colored eyes gazing up into Damien's yellow emeralds, the sudden warmness touching their gaze. At first, Damien looked questioning but that was obvious for someone who had their muzzle inches away from the one hugging him. A second later, Luc moved his muzzle towards Damien's._
_ Damien's look changed to confused and hurt, but suddenly shifted to blank and followed the path, pressing his lips to Luc's..._
...Damien squeezed his eyes and was back into the mess he found himself in this morning, his tail frozen on the spot and his eyes looking all around for something to keep his interest but instead found them just going back to the blue sky eyes that Luc had so well. Damien blushed hard and forced his head to stare down at the ground, his head spinning.
"Look," Luc said as he swing the covers off himself, the white sheets hitting the golden glow the sun shown in through the window and reminding the Tiger of a swans beautiful wing, "What we did last night was wrong and stupid. Let's just... forget about this. Okay?"
Damien couldn't really keep the memory sustained and kept replaying the first scene in his head, but that wasn't all that was in his mind.
"Gavin..." He spluttered the word in a whisper, his eyes shooting wide and having to realize that he has a boyfriend whose waiting worried in Arella.
For some reason that hit home to the Tiger, just imagining the Racoon sitting in their new home in the Kingdom, worried sick and alone... Damien suddenly hated himself now.
"Right..." Luc harshly sighed and his ears fell, his posture losing its straightness from sitting up and slumping to a lazy one, guilt hitting the Fox now too. Not because he had feelings for Damien, but the thought of making him go behind his mates back, "You have a boyfriend..."
_ _ Luc now hated himself too.
"What have we done...?" Damien whispered again, his face portraying an image of when a child loses a family pet.
Luc got up and hastily had to leave, grabbing his clothes off the floor and putting them on quickly, "Nothing." He said, and paused when he finally had his pants done up, "Let's just... pretend this didn't happen, okay? Can you manage that?"
Damien only stared at the ground; his legs that carried his nude body shook in pulses now as his guilty conscience took over, putting memories of himself and Gavin into overdrive so he could reflect on all the good times they spent together... Oh gods...!
"Can you?" He prodded again and applied a harsher tone to snap Damien awake from his revelation. The air in the room--for some uncomfortable reason--shifted as the Tiger glanced up into the Fox's eyes, examining them deeply to see if there was even a sparkle of regret in them, maybe even a twinkle of sympathy. Though all he found was empty, baby blue eyes.
Damien had no choice but to give in and gulped to himself, simply nodding his head to the Fox in defeat and allowing his gaze to descend back down to the cement flooring. Lying to Luc was easy, especially in this type of situation, but lying to himself?
Not so much.
"Why do we always eat Chinese?"
Clarissa stopped the food halfway to her mouth and glanced over to Kevin on her right, her beautiful hair done up in the usual ponytail and her face clean of make-up which still either way made her look magnificent. He's known her for more than two years now and just being with her and not caring what she wore was probably the most trusting aspect towards Kevin than anything else, it made him warm on the inside with a smile spreading on his lips.
"I don't know, actually. Why? Does it make me look fat?"
"No! No, you look beautiful." He reached down with his free hand and placed it on her knee, her warming smile now on her lips, "You make me happy."
Her face went a bright red at his complement and she didn't know how to respond, so instead she just ate the chicken ball on her chopsticks and turned her attention away from him so she wasn't left staring blankly at the handsome man beside her. To her, it looked like Kevin put more effort on making himself look presentable than she did him. His hair was spiked up this morning after a shower and his clothes were just as better with a T-shirt and jeans.
She really had to admit, this man was probably one of most important one in her life as compared to the ones she's dated before. He was nice, sincere, and always had an infectious smile that made her heart just flutter at the look of his face. Yeah, he had has dorky moments, but that never seemed to bother Clarissa as she seemed to enjoy those moments even more, it was... cute to her.
"Kevin?" She asked once Skylar was more focused on the TV now.
"Hm?"
"About the other night," She stared with a small bit of hesitation in her voice, but so far she's managed to keep it leveled with her serious voice, "When we kissed?" She blushed hard again and focused her gaze on the Chinese box.
Kevin grinned and was reminded of that lovely scene they had by the balcony door, his throat releasing a teasing growl as he grinned and nudged her side a bit, "Oh yeah, how could I forget."
She giggled and went on, "Well... after I left, I kept hearing a lot of... banging." Kevin's heart sunk and his blood suddenly froze... Oh no... "What was happening at that time I left?"
Kevin forgot all about that. Of course after Clarissa left his apartment that was when Kevin's imaginary escapade decided to pop in for a visit... That argument sort of led to a lot of yelling and fighting. Damn it, he didn't even realize they were being that loud but how stupid could he be for thinking that, they even woke up Skylar that night! Does Sky even remember what happened? He hasn't brought it up at all yet so Kevin may have just forgot all about it afterwards.
Forget about it? He thought to himself, you couldn't stop dreaming about it! Can this really be happening? Demetrius is back? I thought I was just imagining that whole thing as a kid! I'm so confused...
_ _ "Oh!" Kevin responded quickly, he had no choice he had to lie to her; she wouldn't understand any of what was going on in Kevin's head. She would think he was crazy! And by this point in their relationship, crazy is not what Kevin needed her to think of him, "I was... watching a movie."
"A movie...?" She said slowly, her eyes searching into Kevin's to see if that was actually the truth or not. It made him nervous to even sit there and be examined for lies but he had no choice to, it was either that or tell her the truth that his imaginary creature he made up as a child came to life to attack him while writing his novel.
"Yeah... I guess I must have kept the volume up a little too loud." He responded quickly and moved his hand to rest over hers on her leg again, "I'm sorry."
This time she wasn't fazed by the sudden skin contact Kevin made, but she just simply shrugged off the thought of him lying and turned toward the TV again. Her posture was clear bitterness, something Kevin never liked seeing at all. She knows Kevin was lying, but she wasn't in a place right now to go deeper into it. Soon though, she will have to bring it up again... And then, if he's honest, she can finally stop worrying about him.
Demetrius felt his heart rate choke into his throat harshly as he stood in the center of the empty apartment, his glacier blue eye taking in the new environment that he felt entirely uncomfortable in. Not because he broke into it, no, he had no shame in doing that, but because it was the apartment to the girl whom was spending her precious time with the one he only truly loved.
He had his hood up over his head to conceal his face and walked further into her apartment, quietly watching his steps and keeping his senses sharp for anything that threatened to walk in at any moment. His first intake of the living space was how clean cut the apartment was kept, for a girl who spends most of her day out of her apartment at her job Demetrius was surprised at how clean she managed to keep it. The furniture was squared around the large box Humans seem to always watch every day while the other half of the apartment was the culinary section with a table next to it where she would sit down and have her meals quietly. Though Demetrius wouldn't necessarily call them a meal as her trash can was full of boxes from the same place she seemed to order from each day. He lazily picked up one of the boxes out of the trash and read the label on the front: 'Woo's'. Demetrius grunted and dropped it back into the trash; his fingers having a soft linger of something sweet coming from the box.
The apartment was left dark except from the morning light that was casted outside her balcony door--which was left unlocked for the Husky to easily walk in with no effort. Though Demetrius didn't mind the darkness at all, for some reason it felt like the Darkness had consumed him and left him invisible to the environment, making it more welcoming to him than intruding as he invaded the girls' own privacy. Demetrius never was the type to invade a person's privacy, but when he feels that deep down he needs to investigate something than it was a perfect excuse for him. Right now, Demetrius' gut feeling was the only thing he trusted other than his best friend Damien.
And this time his gut was telling him that this girl Kevin was spending time with wasn't to be trusted.
By the time Demetrius reached the culinary section of the apartment, his attention was immediately brought to the pile of rectangular papers stacked near a vase that was bearing long stemmed red roses. That was probably what the Husky was sniffing the second he stepped into the apartment. Now he knows her scent.
Demetrius reached his paw towards the papers and picked one up, unfolding it and scanning his glacier blue eyes over the numbers and letters the seemed to be placed all over the page. It seemed completely irrelevant to the Husky and before he was about to put the paper back in its place, his eyes were drawn to the name at the top of the page:
Clarissa Grey.
"So that's who you are..." He spoke quietly to himself, keeping his voice low and neutral so it would match the silent state the apartment was in.
Demetrius kept his gaze on the name for a few seconds, tracing his eyes over the name a couple times slowly before he felt his gut feeling shift from cautious to warning in a split second. The feeling he felt in his stomach was immediately turned into a message from his brain, forcing the Husky to quickly step to his side and feel the edge of a blade slice through the air where his body was a second ago.
Demetrius was being attacked.
Using his reflexes, the Husky grabbed the hand that nearly came close to stabbing him and shifted it over his head so he could heave the attacker's body over his shoulder, slamming their body into the wooden flooring and gaining the upper hand in the situation. Once the intruder's body was winded now that he was on his back, Demetrius reached his free hand towards his side arm combat knife that was sheathed and strapped onto his thigh and found only air!
His knife was gone! How?
Suddenly before he had the chance to react, the combat knife was embedded into the Husky's bicep.
Demetrius yelped from the surprise and cursed. The attacker than used that split second that knocked the Husky off guard to bring his legs up and under Demetrius' chest and forcefully push him off, rolling backwards and up onto his feet in which he used his hind leg to push off again for another close encounter attack.
This time the Husky's reflexes didn't kick in as the attacker slammed his body over the counter top, knocking the vase off its place and sending it to shatter onto the wooden flooring. Without even having a chance to get up, the attacker followed his assault by straddling Demetrius on the counter top, using his legs to crush his arms so that they were rendered useless to him.
Leaning in close to the Husky's face, the attacker suddenly came into view. He wore a black stealth outfit that explained why Demetrius couldn't hear him enter the apartment behind him, the hood that covered over his head concealed his face during the fight but now that he leaned over the Husky Demetrius could make out that he was a golden brown colored Fennec.
"I have a message for you." He harshly whispered over the Husky's face and snarled, "Leave this world now or the boy dies."
"Fuck you!" Demetrius growled back, which only left him to groan harshly in pain afterward as the Fennec reached for the knife in his bicep and twisted it harshly, a stream of blood leaking onto the counter.
"This is your final warning!"
After that he pushed off Demetrius, causing him to cough and grunt in pain, and sprint toward the balcony door.
He was gone, leaving Demetrius alone in silence again.
Demetrius caught his scent now that he was more relaxed and calmed; he was definitely an Eternal Rebel Spy. But that wasn't what he was worried about...
The Fennec's voice replayed in his head again: Leave this world now or the boy dies.
_ _ That only meant one thing...
This is your final warning!
They know about Kevin.
