The Unintended Curse ch15
#15 of The Unintended Curse
Sorry for the long wait for an update, but I hope that this part of the story is worth it in your eyes and you take the time in leaving me a comment on how it was done. After all, how else am I supposed to know how to improve and make these chapters all the more...more enjoyable to read?
THE UNINTENDED CURSE
Ch. 15
"In the name of Lord Dune, I hereby seize these two 'un-collard' elves," the old man said with a very wide/shite-eating grin as he pointed towards the two startled elves behind me. I really didn't get what was going on but by the way that he was taking charge of things and/or telling me he was seizing the sisters behind me; I knew that it couldn't be good for them. My first instinct was to go ahead and flat out tell him to suck eggs, but that was probably my host's mind reacting on instinct to the situation, but with that bit of an outburst being so foreign to me, it allowed me a moment to think.
'I'm in a foreign land and have no real knowledge as to how the laws work here. So how am I to know what he says is in the right?' A few more moments passed with neither of us actually moving until the older man slowly put both hands on his hips and thrust out his chest in that of a heroic pose, while his face turned up in a triumphant smile/grin.
"Now step aside peasant and let me take what, 'now' rightfully belongs to me...'or' are you going to impede me from my duty?" I could tell that he was just itching to call upon that of the guards but the only real thought that was running through my head was that of the two elves that I was now guarding against this man.
It all came to a conclusion when I felt the elder sister grab the back of my tunic and lean into me so she could whisper something into my ear. "Please, aid us. We must not go with him, for if we do, we will be subject to a fate worse than death to us elves." I really didn't know what she was talking about, but if the tone of her voice, (Which was quite shaky as if scared) was to be believed, then I couldn't let them be handed over to the man.
With a bit of a deflating huff, I took on a hard look, and scowled back at the man. "I know nothing of this...Lord Dune you claim these sister elves in the name of; therefore I don't recognize this claim as legitimate and therefore call you liar and a fraud." The look of utter shock quickly appeared on the elder man's face and I got the distinct impression that this man wasn't used to having his word questioned and/or everyone jumping upon his beckon call. Seeing my moment, I slowly advanced upon him and gave him a sharp and precise poke to the center of his chest. "And if you wish to press the claim further, I will have no choice but to challenge you to a dual of honor," I leaned in close, "And see if you sword is bigger than your boast of authority."
It was at that moment that the elderly man seemed to lose the bite of his claim and began to stammer for some kind of response. 'I don't think he has ever had a 'peasant' stand up to him before and to that have one challenge him to a dual.' A chuckle quickly spread through me and I pressed my claim further. "And do not even think to call in the guard to stand in for you if you truly wish to duel. You were the one who said, 'You' claim these...'Un-collared' elves, and it was 'You' who is acting in the name of your...'Lord'." His eyes got a bit bigger and it was then that I knew that I'd caught him in something that he didn't have the power to enforce. It was also at that moment that I felt my host want to press the matter further, but since my host was such an impetuous man I knew that there'd probably something about the quick action that I'd probably regret.
It was then that I felt the elder sister slowly ease up on my tunic and with that I knew that the matter was slowly turning in our favor. With that I began to feel an overwhelming sense of self-satisfaction about being able to bring down a noble off his high horse, but missed the evil/knowing smirk on his lips as he slowly lowered his head and laughed slightly. "Kill him," he said simply. For a second I did not understand what he had said, but it became painfully clear when I felt something swift and quite painful pass through the center of my hosts body.
In my mind's eye I could see what had just happened to me, but not believing it I slowly lowered my gaze and looked down. Spurting two feet out from the center of my host's chest was that of a sword and as I watched in stunned disbelief a small trickle of blood slowly traveled down the length/edge of the blade, only to pool at the end, and then drop to the ground with a bit of a splash as it joined a few other drops on the ground. With almost hesitant fingers I slowly reached forward and touched the swords end, but my finger only lingered there for a moment before the sword was swiftly drawn back out of my body.
It was almost as if my host's body was held aloft from the blade, since just as soon as the sword fully exited my host's body did my host's strength leave it, and we crumpled to the ground in shock. 'What the hell is going on here? Was I just stabbed...stabbed by someone's sword? How did he...he get behind me without the elves not noticing him sneak up on us?' It was only when I heard the sound of the elder sister elf scream and that of my hosts face hitting the dirt, that the whole world finally began to come back into focus and to that the horrible truth was realized. I do not really recall what happened next as I was struggling to make sense of what was going on through my host's body; as it seemed that his body had frozen up in shock, but as I struggled to regain control of the body I saw several other men slowly move in/over my crumpled form. Several of the men carried what could only be described as some kind of collar and though the sister's put up one heck of a fight; using magic as well as kicks and their nails, the guards overwhelming numbers won out in the end and fastened the collars around their necks. The look of utter horror crossed the elder sister's face and in that I knew that things had taken a turn for the worse.
It was seeing both the sister's faces; to which now sported a look of horror/fear/and...pleading to us that I knew that I couldn't wait for the shock to abate within my host; and to that I had to take action. 'If we were just stabbed, then that does not leave me much time before my hosts life ends due to loss of too much of the red fluid in his body, so I have to take this in steps if this body is to survive.' I could feel the red fluid leaking out of two points in my hosts body and quickly moved to block the loss of the fluid and to that pull the wounds closed to give my host a little time, the next was to figure out how I was going to get this body healed and to that I would need the help of the elder sister to work her healing magic on the body again, finally there was that of the man who had ordered my hosts death to deal with.
Stopping the flow of the red fluid wasn't that hard as I simply turned my body into a type of sticky substance that quickly began to pull the areas that had been ripped apart by the blade back together. With the holes now closed up and the areas split by the sword pulled back together, I began to think about how to rescue the sisters without getting my host cut up any further. That left only one real way...to deal with a problem, cut if off at its source.
"You are an utter coward...," I said as I still lay there watching the scene before me. With those simple words I saw the whole group of men quickly stop in whatever they were doing, and watched ever so slowly as I began to move slightly. "Ordering the death of a man by stabbing him in the back..." The whole group of men began to shake slightly and to that only more-so by simple act of me slowly getting back to my feet.
It took me a moment to finally get my host back on his feet and since I was still struggling with the shock, I was not able to fully have him stand fully upright; so once I had fully gotten him to his feet he looked more like a man on his last legs/fully-fatigued or that of a recently re-animated corpse. Now that I'd gotten him back to his feet I could put the first part of my plan behind me and now deal with the real problem. With that I took in a slow/long breath and once I'd pushed his lungs to the maximum, I shot a glob of white at the man. It was quite comical at how the large glob of goop hit the man in the face, and even more-so when the sheer force of the hit took the off his feet and land fully on his backside in what could only be described as a rather large road apple (Author: Cow pie only that it's actually from a horse).
It was with that I began to look about me and see what the crowd of guards would do, and with every eye I met...it quickly went wide and an overbearing sense of fear could be seen as the pupil would shrink nearly to that of pin points. Seeing that, I knew that they were on a razor thin edge and just about ready to head for the highest/furthest mountain from this place. Not being able to resist this any further I quickly raised both my host's arms as high as I could and yelled "BOO", to which had the desired effect of having all the guards soil their pants and quickly make for the hills while screaming something about demons or damnation.
Once the dust had cleared and everyone had quieted down was I able to look about and saw that not all of the people frightened by my sudden return to life. The old man was still lying in the pile of road apples with a look of utter disgusting and a haze in his eyes, the sisters were standing on either side of me, and a small gathering of onlookers had gathered to see what the whole deal was with the fleeing of the guard. Knowing now that the danger was indeed over I allowed the hold that I had over several parts of my host to relax and in that he fell to his knees in exhaustion/shock. Thankfully before the rest of my host's strength fled him I felt a set of arms grab either side of my host's shoulders and steady him.
"We have you." Said a trail of voices and I was a bit surprised that it didn't come from two sets of voices that I recognized...it came from three.
