The Runt.

Chapter 13.

By: Wolfie Steel.

With the funeral drawing to a close, Rion helps me back to the car, as we walk I look up to the rock that I had seen my brother Jeff standing on, only a few weeks back, it was inhabited again this time by a human male, Ryan. I stop and sadly tilt my head; Ryan climbs down off the rock and walks over to me.

“Sonny, you were blessed with one of the kindest, sweetest of mates; he was entirely genuine and took me in despite me being sent to kill both him and his mate. I will admit that part of me despised you when I found out that you had taken a new mate, but I have had time to calm down somewhat and I see that Rion here holds a very strong love for you. I know that at the moment your thoughts are all over the place, but I was employed by Mason and with his death, I find myself unemployed again other than being a guitarist for the band. I would like to formally offer my services to you and your new mate Rion, as I'm sure that the majority of furs that were employed by Mason will do. Please, Sonny, make Mason proud, build the empire that you both started into the best it can be"

I look into Ryan's eyes and see the conviction in his words, I break away from my mate and hug Ryan tightly and make my reply.

“Ryan, you will always have a job with me and Rion, as will Steve, Major Palio, and Commander Jones, and you are right, at the moment I don't want to think about the business side of things, so for the next few weeks I will be placing Steve Tasker in charge of running The Fast Lane and I want you to coordinate the security details with the help of Major Palio and Commander Jones. The house where Mason and I lived will become the new home for me and my new mate but please don't think that I am disrespecting Mason's memory in any way by doing that, it is purely a financial idea, I mean it would be stupid to have the running costs of two homes. I will never forget Mason and what he did for me"

Ryan gently nodded and began walking away, it was then that I realised that he had followed the cortege on foot. I quickly run after Ryan and take a gentle hold of him.

“Ryan, you have walked here to pay your last, silent respects to Mason, it is only right that I offer you a ride back to the house, after all, you will be guarding it whilst I stay at Rion's place"

Ryan nodded again and the two of us walked back to the car where my mate was waiting for us. With everyone now in their cars, we leave the burial ground and head for the mansion where we could all gather and maybe have something to eat and drink to help calm everyone's emotions.

We enter the living room and I see a medium sized box sat on one of the leather couches bound with a blue ribbon with a tag on it that just reads 'SONNY', a large lump forms in my throat as I pick up the box. I take a seat on the couch and open the box; inside the velvet lined box is a note.

My darling Sonny, it is my dying wish that I give you everything that I own, there is no Last Will And Testament because I don't want the blood sucking lawyers to get anywhere near what is rightfully yours. Inside this box you will find two rings, they were going to be the rings that would be used for our wedding; I want both you and Rion to use them for what I feel sure will be your wedding day. There is also a key, this is the key to a safety deposit box which you will find at the Bank de International in London, love my worldly wealth lies inside that box, along with a list of names whom you can trust if you need them, Luther Canes being one of them. My dearest I do have a strange request to make of you and Rion, if you do decide to get married I would like you to hold the ceremony at the graveside of myself and your mother, that way we can both say that at least we were there to see you wed.

And finally Tyler, I have provided a trust fund for Tyler, call it my apology to him for the way I acted when I first met him, please look after him, nurture him, love him, protect him. The trust fund will mature on the day on the day of his 18th birthday; however, since I don't know his birthday, I will leave you to set the date.

There is just one extra final thing, if you are reading this note it's likely that you have bought the funeral party back to the house, love, there is enough money inside this box to put behind the bar at The Fast Lane, I want you all to go and open the bar, and have a bloody good wake on me, you deserve that much after the love and support that you have shown me. I guess all that there is to say now is goodbye my sweetheart, I love you with all my heart.

Mason.

After reading the note I break down in tears, Rion is quick to my side as is Tyler. I cry for what must be two hours straight, suddenly I jerk my head up and speak.

“Guys, Mason wanted us to have a wake on him, so I suggest that we send the great Rottweiler off in style, at The Fast Lane"

We all arrive at The Fast Lane and I open the door, I put the chalkboard out on the pavement and simply write on it.

“For one night only, the staff and management of The Fast Lane will be serving free drinks in honour of the co-owner the late, great Mason Lane"

After two hours the place is packed with regulars all sharing their memories of the dog that I once proudly called my mate. I decided to take to the stage to make a speech.

“I look out at you all standing with your drinks, quietly reminiscing about your time spent in the company of Mason, normally when any of you get to the point that you can't stand up, we kick you out, not tonight, tonight we drink until the bar is dry, but first I would like to propose a toast"

I raise my glass in the air, a motion that is mirrored by everyone in the bar and then I continue.

“To Mason Lane, may he rest in peace"
