The younger lupine walked slowly down the hall, the cold wood floor stealing the heat from his padded paws. His nervousness grew like a balloon in his throat as he walked into the living room. The sight of his distraught looking mother gave him chills.

"Why the fuck isn't dinner ready?!" yelled the angry female.

"Dinner?" questioned the confused wolf, "It is eleven P.M.!"

"I said to have dinner ready when I get home!" His mother said with a glare.

"No you didn't. I haven't talked to you since you talked to Tobias and Josh!" explained Ky in frustration.

"What?" said the wolf, taking a step backwards, away from the enraged fur.

"Didn't I tell you to get your fairy ass out my house? You FAGGOT!!" screamed the female.

"Wha-? What the hell are you ta-" Ky stammered as fear started welling up inside him.

"GET OUT!" the frightened teen's mother screamed, "GET THE FUCK OUT NOW!!!"

The enraged wolf grabbed a vase and threw it at her son, scoring a hit against her son's shoulder before running towards him. Not waiting to see what other harm his mother might befall upon him, Ky ran out of the one place that should be filled with love and comfort, with tears streaming down his face.

The darkness that surrounded him blurred as the rhythm of his paws hitting the concrete pounded in his ears. His shoulder ached and throbbed, pain spreading from the point of impact. Sobs escaped his muzzle and his legs started aching from the running. His mind raced as he thought about what he was going to do. All thoughts of the future stopped as a mist descended in his head while his legs carried him ever farther from the horror the remained in what was just a house, not a home. He suddenly lost his balance and fell hard to the concrete, and skidded along it. Air was abruptly pushed out of his lungs as he flailed and tumbled on the sandpaper-like surface. The wolf finally lost his momentum and lay motionless on his back, trying to get some oxygen to his starving lungs.

Minutes passed as he attempted to recover, before he sat up. Then it hit him, harder than he had hit the concrete just minutes before. He tried desperately to hold in the pain, of not only disownment but the pain from his shoulder as well, by burying his face in his paws. The torrents of emotions were too much to hold at bay as tears and snot soaked his paws while the harsh cold of the concrete seeped through his meager boxers. What seemed like hours passed before he slowly opened his eyes and swallowed hard, locking his emotions away. Ky stared at the ground before noticing the blood on his arms and legs. The red liquid from several lacerations began to matt his fur in areas. The sight of his own blood helped to lift the haze that kept his bound to the earth. Tobias's eyes opened suddenly to the sound of something hitting his window. He looked blearily to the window, curious to see what was making the noise.

The husky jumped and fell out of his bed after seeing that the noise was made by a paw knocking on his window. After a couple of moments, and a few more knocks, Tobias took hold of his fear and walked over to his window. As he got closer, the silhouette of a familiar fur materialized.

After several minutes, Tobias said, "Here, come inside and explain what happened."

"*sniffle* Okay." the lupine said before crawling into his mate's room.

The couple walked over to the bed and arranged themselves on it, cuddled together.

"So, do you want to tell me what happened?" asked the caring husky.

"Yeah." Ky said before sniffing some of the liquid out of his nostrils. "Well, I was lying in my bed, thinking about you," said the wolf, smiling for a moment, "then I heard my mom come home and she started screaming. I went into the living room to see what was happening and she started yelling at me for not having dinner ready."

"What?" said the confused canine?

"Yeah, I have no idea." answered the wolf as he wiped the tears from my eyes, "Anyway, *sniff* I told her that I didn't know I was supposed to and she started yelling again. I told her that the last time I talked to her was when you guys saw her."

"Yeah." Tobias responded, "That was weird. She was all, like... Nice."

"Yeah. Well, when I mentioned you guys she called you faggots and started getting crazy again." continued the lupine as tears started welling up in his eyes again, "Then she told me to get the FUCK out of her house. She was screaming at the top of her lungs and then she threw a vase at me before I could get out. Anyway, I ran out of the house ran down the sidewalk for a really long time before I fell and sat there a long time."

"Then I walked here. I thought about going to Josh's cause he is closer, but I wanted to see you."

Ky started crying at the thought of what happened, "I was so scared. Why would she do that? Aren't moms supposed to love and care for their kids?"

"Being with you made it so much easier." smiled the wolf as he rubbed his paw against his lover's face, "Thanks for being there. I am sorry you had to go through that."

"No, I am glad I can help." Tobias said. "I would do anything to make your life, even in the least bit, better."

"I love you so much Toby." said the sincere lupine.

"Not as much as I love you Ky." replied the husky.

"You are wrong." Ky said, grinning.

"Nope." said the grinning canine, "Anyway, I would like to ask you something."

"Shoot." the wolf said.

"Umm," Tobias said hesitantly, "I was thinking a lot last night about you and your mom and was just wondering, why does your mom do this? Like, it hurts me so much to see such an amazing fur get hurt or treated badly. How could she do this to you?"

The grin on the lupine's face faded away as he thought about what was said, then said, "I wish I knew. Like, I am pretty sure she has something wrong mentally, because she is so back and forth on her moods. I wouldn't even call them moods, more like... personalities. She is a nice, wonderful mother one moment, then a terrible, abusing one the next. I don't think she even remembers half the stuff she does."

"That's so sad." the husky said, looking down at the sheets as he thought.

"Yeah." Ky said before tears started welling up in his eyes, "I love her so much, but I don't know if she loves me. I don't know what to do. I want to try to fix things, but every time I do try, it blows up in my face. I don't want to lose her. I lost my dad; I don't want to lose her. Even if she doesn't love me, I love her."

Tears formed in the corner of the husky's eyes as he listened to his boyfriend pour himself out to him. He felt so bad that he had to go through this terrible situation. Tobias searched his mind for the right words to say, but couldn't find any. Because of his lack of words, he decided to comfort his mate with actions. Kayla started giggling and Josh pulled his, and the paw it was holding, back and said, "Hey! Leave our paws alone."

"What is going on?" Ky said, confused by the situation.

"Well, Josh called me last night and asked me out. And I said yes, so, we are now a couple." stated the lab, proudly, as a huge grin grew on her face.

"I didn't know you two liked each other!" said the husky, feeling like was left out some important information.

"And I didn't know that you liked Ky-" Kayla responded before covering her maw with her paw, knowing she let something slip out that shouldn't of.

Tobias's jaw dropped and both Josh and Ky stared in her in utter shock. "

"Oops. I didn't mean to say that. Are you mad?" asked the lab apologetically.

The only feline in the group then began coughing uncomfortably, trying to cover his guilt. The husky looked over at his friend and grinned evilly before pushing the clumsy tiger off the bench, "I told you not to tell!"

"I am sorry," Josh said as he got up and brushed himself off, "It kinda... slipped out."

Kayla got up and started picking twigs off the back of her boyfriend, "And plus, I am his girlfriend. He was bound to tell me."

"She does have a point there." the wolf said, laughing at the ridiculous interaction his friends were involved in.

"Well, off to class everyone!" said the labrador as she dragged her mate away by the paw, "We will see you later."

"See ya." both Tobias and his boyfriend said as they headed in the opposite direction of their two friends.

"So, that was really weird." said the wolf as they walked.

"Tell me about it." the canine agreed.

"Okay. Well first off, we walked up to them and said hello." Ky said, taking his mate's last sentence literally, "Then you noticed that Josh and Kayla were holding hands, so you asked th-"

"Okay, okay." laughed the husky as he playfully shoved his lover, "that's enough smart-aleck."

"I was just "telling you about it", like you said," the wolf said, giggling.

"You know what I meant." Tobias said before getting serious, "It is nice to see that your spirits are up."

"Yeah, my spirits tend to do that when I am around my friends..." Ky said before leaning closer and whispering, "and my hot boyfriend."

The husky snickered, "Psh."

School ended and four bodies emerged from the sea of crowded furs. The four friends walked towards the parking lot, talking along the way. "Wait, her car isn't here." Ky said, looking around for his mom's black car, "We're good."

The two furs padded to the doorstep, and went inside, after the lupine found the hidden key and unlocked the door. They walked to Ky's room and plopped down on the bed.

"So, you have a really nice house." the husky said, looking around, "What does your mom do?"

"She is a real estate agent." stated the wolf, "She is probably out appraising some house right now."

"Ah, I see." Tobias said before squeezing one of his mate's pillows to his face and inhaling the familiar scent and smiling to himself.

"I actually might get a house when she retires. It was one she bought for cheap, and she didn't sell it." said the lupine as he looked at the bumps on his ceiling, "She said I could have it when she stops selling."

"I know!" Ky said as he got up off the bed, "There should be a picture of it her closet. I will be right back."
