Arena, Chapter 7
#7 of Arena
Well. I don't normally write the kind of stuff that's in this chapter, but, well...I dunno. It seemed right for this particular story. I'm not planning to make a habit of it. Especially if it turns out to be crap. It's late and my brain's turning itself off, so I'm not sure if those scenes work or not. Oh, well. Only one way to find out.
ETA: Once again, the scene breaks didn't work, and the whole thing appeared as a single block of text. And since I was half-asleep last night, I didn't notice. Fixed now, so it should make a little more sense.
"Thank you," Grishnag whispered once she was finally able to catch her breath. When Dylan looked up at her and cocked his head in confusion, she smiled and added, "For not insisting on waiting until we escape the simulation, and for allowing me to be your first. _And_for not thinking I'm too ugly to bone."
He laughed, shook his head, and took a few more deep breaths. "I think you're hotter than hell. And I bet you're a beauty queen where you're from."
"Heh. Honestly, before I got the scars, my people considered me quite plain. Before or after, humans usually thought I was...severely lacking in the appearance department. Even when I was young, there was one guy in particular who said my face looked like a thousand miles of bad road."
"I hope you beat the shit out of him." Dylan smiled and kissed her. "If I weren't attracted to you, I wouldn't have done what we just did." He kissed her again. "By the way, thank you. Before today, I was sure I was on track to become the oldest virgin in the history of humanity."
She chuckled and slipped her arms around him. "I'm happy I could change that for you."
"So am I. Of course, since this is a simulation, it didn't _really_happen." He traced the tip of his tongue over her lips and wiggled his eyebrows. "So when we get out of this thing, I'm hoping we can do it again. With our actual, physical bodies, I mean."
"Mmm, I hope so." What a strange thought, though--that this isn't real. Everything about it sure as hell felt _real._The sensations of the huge, round mattress beneath her; Dylan's hot, soft skin under her palms and against her chest and between her legs; his manhood still inside her as they cuddled...it felt every bit as real as anything she'd experienced before waking up in that metal room.
Even though the simulation seems to be falling apart, it's still an amazing feat of programming, to duplicate physical sensations so exactly.
"That was beautiful," Syala said softly. Grishnag turned to the left and found her stretched out at the edge of the bed, propping herself up on one elbow and smiling. She'd taken her cloak off, perhaps in anticipation of her "turn" with Dylan, and Grishnag noticed for the first time the young woman's long tail.
"Beyond beautiful." Dylan held her for a moment longer, running his hands slowly over her back and then around to her bulging biceps. He gazed into her eyes, grinned, and eased out of her.
A shiver rippled through her whole body, and she grunted and hunched forward.
He cupped her face in his hands and gave her one more long, passionate kiss before rolling onto his back and letting out a long sigh. She took a few gasping breaths and clasped his hand. Finally, she sucked in one more deep breath, let it rush out, and took a look around at the other females. All had joined them on Dylan's bed, several of them apparently occupying themselves while she and Dylan made love.
A soft moan drew her attention to the right, where Nishara and Zilaka lay in each other's arms. Grish chuckled and said, "Feeling better, Zilaka?"
"Very much, yes." Zilaka smiled, kept her eyes half-open, and rubbed her hands slowly over Nish's back.
"You...inspired us," Nishara said with a grin. She gave Zilaka a long kiss before propping herself up on one pair of hands and stretching the other arms, then switching.
"So." Grishnag wiggled her eyebrows. "Who's next?"
"That would be Syala." Cora, sitting cross-legged at the lower end of the bed, scooted up and flicked a finger against the end of Syala's tail. Syala giggled and turned to smile at Dylan.
"I might need a few minutes to recover." Dylan chuckled and took a few more deep breaths.
"Actually, you can perform a reset on yourself and you'll be ready to go again." Cora grinned. "We'll have to remember once we're back in the physical world that Dylan won't be able to shoot his load this frequently. We'll all be subject to whatever physical limitations our bodies have. But while we're in here, why not try to maximize the benefits?"
Dylan's face turned bright red, but he flashed a brilliant grin at Syala. "Heh. I just found the reset. I'm ready for round two."
So I see. Grish glanced at his erection and laughed softly. As Syala scooted closer to him, Grish reached out to give her ample backside a gentle squeeze.
Syala smiled and made a kissy face at her before stopping in front of Dylan and caressing his chest. "I gave myself an orgasm while watching you and Grishnag, so you don't have to worry about 'performing.' Just let it happen at its own pace."
He nodded, reached out with a slightly trembling hand, and cupped it against her cheek.
They leaned toward each other and pressed their lips together. Dylan let his hand wander over her shoulder, along her side, over her ass, and come to rest at the base of her tail. She shivered and drew in a quick breath. She put her arm around him, pressed her body closer, and nudged gently. He stretched out on his back and she lowered herself onto him. Both of them moaned softly and began moving together, Syala bracing her hands on his chest and leaning down to kiss him before gazing into his eyes while riding him with increasing urgency.
Grishnag smiled and slid over to the foot of the bed, where Cora had returned to her previous pose. "I assume you've been monitoring the system," she whispered.
Cora nodded and a display window appeared in the air in front of her, resembling a pane of glass--a window giving her a glimpse into one of the other simulations.
"As you can see here," Cora whispered back, "blowing up that reactor had exactly the effect I hoped it would. The system couldn't handle the strain, and I've found two dozen simulations so far that just froze. I've found several others that started glitching to the point where they pretty much fell apart. And several dozen other in-progress simulations have been suffering more minor glitches, like this one."
The image switched to some sort of hovering tank gliding across a desert landscape. It surged forward for a few more seconds--then, without warning, it launched at a ninety-degree angle and slammed into a cliff wall hard enough to crumple the tank and partially embed itself in the rock. Grishnag spotted a severed arm and two legs tumbling to the ravine floor, and someone's head and shoulders sticking out of the wreckage, the rest of his body crushed between massive chunks of metal folding in on themselves.
"Ouch." Grishnag chuckled and raised a brow at Cora.
"Each incident, particularly large explosions, puts additional strain on the system. Looks like it's snowballing, growing exponentially, and if it keeps up, it could be enough to bring the whole thing grinding to a halt."
"So all we have to do is wait for everything to crash?"
Syala cried out softly, slipped her arms around Dylan, and ground her lips against his as their movements grew ever quicker.
"We could," Cora whispered, "but I'm concerned about what that might ultimately do to us." She leaned closer to Grishnag and lowered her voice even more. "If the system suffers a catastrophic failure, it could actually kill us. I'm coding a piece of software that should shut the whole thing down safely. Once it's finished, and I've found the right opening to insert it, I'll be able to locate our physical bodies and awaken each of us."
Grishnag smiled, embraced Cora, and kissed her. "That's wonderful news! It means we're very close to escaping."
"Yep. All I have to do is pull it off before the entire virtual world collapses around us and affects our life support in the outside world."
"Ah." Grishnag stared wide-eyed at her. "So, uh, no pressure, huh?"
"None at all." Cora laughed and shrugged. "Not to worry, though, it won't be long before I complete the software."
Dylan gasped suddenly. "Oh, yes!" He and Syala continued grunting, gasping, and moaning for a long moment before finally sighing and cuddling. Tears streamed down her cheeks, but she also wore a beatific grin.
"And speaking of 'completing,'" Cora whispered, and Grish snickered.
Dylan and Syala lay in each other's arms for a few more minutes before they finally caught their breath. She kissed him, rolled off, propped herself up on her left arm, and smiled down at him.
Grishnag nudged Cora's shoulder. "I believe you're next."
Cora grinned at Dylan. "Actually, I'm working on a _very_important piece of software. Maybe Nishara should go ahead while I finish this."
"Hmm, you've talked me into it." Nishara slid over to him, put her lower arms around him, and cupped his face in her upper hands. She kissed him and grinned. "Time for another 'reset.'"
That was fascinating._Syala smiled as Dylan and Nishara cuddled and gasped for breath. _And quite lovely, as well. She reached out, held one of Nish's hands, and leaned over to kiss Dylan on the cheek. He grinned, turned to look over his shoulder, and she brushed her lips against his.
"Much more of this, and I won't need to reset anything." Dylan grinned and wiggled his eyebrows. Syala and Nishara giggled.
"You've still got three more of us to mate with." Nishara gave him one more kiss and slid over to Syala. She slithered over Syala's legs, coiled around behind her, and lay across her lap. "Let's see if we can keep you aroused."
Syala laughed softly and kissed her. Their hands began exploring one another's bodies. In the corner of Syala's eye, Dylan nodded and smirked.
"Yeah, I think that's working." He chuckled and glanced over at Cora. "You need more time to work on that software?"
"Just finished it a couple minutes ago." Cora put on a saucy grin and crawled over on her hands and knees, her movements instantly taking on a seductive, almost serpentine motion. She kissed him and stroked his cheek with her outstretched hand. "No need to worry about getting me all worked up. I'm self-lubricating, and thanks to my internal sensors and certain subroutines, all you have to do is cum inside me, and that'll set off my own orgasm."
"That's handy," Grish said with a lopsided grin, and Cora nodded.
"I've always thought so." Cora kissed Dylan again and smiled when he placed his hands on her chest.
_This should be even more interesting._Syala tried to divide her attention between Nishara and the strange sight of Dylan making out with a machine-woman. _Hmm. Machine, yes, but clearly just as alive as we are._Syala wondered if she would ever get used to the idea.
A soft gasp from behind her caught her attention and she glanced over her shoulder. There she found Ayastal and Zilaka taking care of themselves once again. Perhaps they had their own "reset" functions.
Nishara planted a series of gentle smooches on Syala's neck, moved slowly down her chest and belly, and settled between her legs. Syala sucked in a quick breath and arched her back. In the corner of her half-closed eye, Cora turned around, leaned over, and presented her backside to Dylan. He approached her, caressed her hips and ass, and eased into her.
Syala leaned over a bit, reached out, and brushed her palm over the hard, metal "skin" on Cora's back. Cora opened her eyes for a moment, smiled at her, and nodded. Syala moved her hand around to cup Cora's right "breast." Cora's smile grew larger. She shifted her weight slightly and placed her hand over Syala's.
Nishara found exactly the right spot and Syala gasped. She lost track of time--probably only a few minutes passed, but it was hard to tell. Not that it was important.
Dylan released another long, drawn-out groan, Cora's whole body shuddered, and her fists clenched around the sheets. He slumped over on her back and sighed. Both remained in that position for another long moment before Cora finally stretched out on the bed and let out a contented purr. Dylan took a few more seconds to catch his breath, caressed her ass again, and leaned back, propping himself up on his hands.
Syala smiled, closed her eyes, and lost herself in the moment again.
The mattress rocked slightly and she opened her eyes just as Zilaka squeezed past her and Nishara. Zilaka grinned and shrugged. Syala laughed and leaned over quickly to kiss her on the breast. Zilaka giggled, returned the gesture, and made her way over to Dylan.
"Time for another reset." Zilaka grinned and crawled on top of him.
"Oh, wow." Dylan sat up and put his arms around her. "I'm ready whenever you are."
The room flickered.
Syala froze for a second, blinked, and shook her head. Did I really see that?
A quick glance around showed her that she wasn't the only one who'd noticed it. All the others had frozen in place and were looking around with startled expressions.
"What the hell was that?" Dylan leaned over to stare past Zilaka at Cora. "Did the room just--"
Cora sat on the edge of the bed and conjured up a set of her floating window panes. Words, numbers, and images flashed on them, coming and going faster than Syala could follow.
"The...'glitching'...?"
"This space is isolated from intrusion, but the glitching affects the whole system, so there's no way to keep it out." Cora covered her mouth with her hand for a moment. "The system is deteriorating faster than I expected it to. Shit!"
"Not_now_," Zilaka grumbled, and Dylan cupped her muzzle in his hands.
"Soon, Zee, I promise. But we won't be able to if we're dead." He kissed her.
"True." Zilaka sighed, nuzzled him, and rolled off. "So, how can we prevent our impending doom?"
Grishnag sat beside Cora. "You said you'd finished that software package?"
"Yes." Cora turned and made eye contact with everyone. "That software I mentioned a while ago--it's something I wrote specifically to shut the simulation down in a safe manner."
The room blinked out for a split-second again, and several of the females twitched and gasped. Syala's heart pounded.
Cora stared upward into the air for a second, as if waiting to see if everything collapsed around them, before she continued.
"If we wait for the system to break down completely, it could affect our life-support. And by that, I mean, it could kill us. So I whipped up this piece of software to insert into a vulnerable part of the simulation. It'll integrate with the simulation's code, locate our physical bodies, and begin a safe shutdown. Once I'm unplugged from the system, I can find each of you in the outside world and bring you out of here."
"What if you meet opposition after you unplug?"
"I'm the best equipped to deal with it." Cora shrugged. "I'm actually not expecting any resistance in the real world, though. From my examination of the simulations, I've gotten the impression that there's no one running things. Like we've discussed before, I think the whole system is running on its own. But if I'm wrong, like I said, I'm sure I can handle it, or at least evade them long enough to get you all out of here."
"Alright, then." Ayastal nodded and planted her hands on her hips. "Let's get started."
"And there it is." Cora waved a hand at the large metal capsule clamped to a rack in one of the Mae Jemison's cargo bays. "The software package I wrote a few minutes ago. We shove that into the right coordinates and the system should begin shutting down. And as I said, it'll locate our real bodies. I'll be able to disconnect from the simulation, then bring each of you out."
Dylan smiled. Everyone had thrown their clothes back on while following Cora to her personal space.
"Finally." Zilaka sighed. "Escape."
Dylan nodded and slipped his arm around her shoulders. She leaned her head against his and they continued watching Cora.
"I've pinpointed the spot where we'll need to insert the new code." A holofield appeared behind Cora. She turned and pointed at the image in it--another alien cityscape with trees here and there and mountains in the distance. The image panned to the left and zoomed in to what appeared to be a crack in the world--a dark, jagged shape stretching across the sky, with something moving inside it every now and then. "We port to that simulation and enter that rift. From there, we'll be able to reach the correct node, insert our software, and wait for it to do its thing."
She walked over to a bench, picked up a small metal case, and returned. She opened the lid and held it out to Dylan.
"Don't take this until I find you in the real world. I want to be sure it's safe out there. Once I've done a proper threat assessment, I'll give you the okay, and then you can take this. It'll disconnect your mind safely from the simulation and then you'll wake up outside."
"Hah." Dylan reached into the case. "Red pills. Nice touch."
Cora chuckled. "It seemed appropriate."
Ayastal glanced back and forth from Dylan to Cora. "I'm afraid I don't understand what you're talking about."
"Sorry, kind of an inside joke. I'll explain later." Cora handed out the rest of the pills.
"Okay." Dylan pocketed the pill and rubbed his hands together. "How do we get through that rift?"
Cora grinned and headed for the door. "Follow me."
She led them through the corridors to a small room with two chairs at the front and two more behind and to one side of them. Consoles lined the walls, with smooth touch-surfaces and monitors, and a wide window overlooked a ringed planet below.
"When I said this was a virtual replica of my ship, I meant it." Cora grinned again and sat in the pilot's seat. She powered up the engines and tapped the controls on the panel in front of her, and the planet appeared to slide off to the left.
Dylan laughed. "This is an actual, functional ship? Awesome!"
An enormous portal flared up outside the viewport and the _Mae Jemison_accelerated toward it.
"Is your ship atmosphere-capable?" Grishnag braced her hand on the wall.
"The real one isn't, but I've modified the code in this one so it'll function perfectly in any simulated atmosphere." Cora flicked a sheepish look at them. "I was planning to write up some weapons to install, but I didn't have as much time as I expected."
"Well, we can't afford to assume the system won't notice what we're doing and fight back."
"Right. It's easier for you to modify your own code and create weapons and abilities for yourselves than it would be to augment this ship's code. So...well...you'll need to go outside and fight off any attacks, so we don't get shot out of the sky before we can get through the rift."
"Outside?" Grish pointed upward. "On the hull?"
"Yes." A flash of light washed over the cockpit as the Jemison passed through the portal and into the simulation's atmosphere. "I'm sorry."
"Can't be helped, I guess." Dylan shrugged. "What the hell. If we_are_ attacked, it'll give us an excuse to work out some of our frustrations."
"I like the way you think." Ayastal thumped her left fist into her right palm.
Dylan nodded and strode through the door. "Let's kick some ass."
