Under Stars

I was inspired by a choral piece called "Stars" by Eriks Esenvalds. I'm a music major and I write as a hobby and this song definitely sparked a little story inside of me. It's a short little story, but I intended it to fit the mood of the piece. The flow of the story should follow along with the song, so play it while you read. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWdjF2K2bZA, here is the link. Pace and immerse yourselves with the music and reading. Enjoy :)

It was a long day at work, but it felt great to lay down in the summer night. The cool breeze running through blades of cold, damp grass, fresh against my back, the wind stroking my fur as it passes over me and into the darkness. The stars up above twinkled and glistened so brightly, the empty field lit by the light from all the stars, with the moon out of sight. I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes and the music filled me with sweet serenity.

"Todd?" Said the warm, loving voice.

'Music to my ears.' I thought as a smile crept on my face. "Lay down." I motioned my head to the left of me.

"Sure." Jackson gladly replied. Jackson was the fox of my dreams. He's been there for me since we were kids and he's helped me through every obstacle. Here we are, in our mid-twenties, engaged, our own home, careers. Life could never have felt more perfect.

I rolled over and looked at Jackson as I wrapped an arm around his chest and my gaze met his. I could never pry away from his honey-colored eyes, his lovely red fur, everything about this guy was beautiful.

"You never get tired of staring at me." He said with a sly grin.

"Don't act like I don't catch you staring at me." I remarked. He chuckled and stared at me.

"It's because you're so beautiful. I never thought I'd love such a beautiful, tender wolf like you. You're black, velvety fur, your deep blue eyes, glistening in the starlight. Everything about you is perfect." He said as he caressed my muzzle and leaned in for a kiss. "

'Even his lips are wonderful.' I thought as I felt my heart flutter. "I want you to know that I will always love you." He paused and breathed a big sigh.

"Todd, it's time I let you know something." He said sternly as he sat up, worrying me.

"What's wrong?" I mumbled, frightened at what he was gonna say next. Something about this tone of his set me off.

"I don't have much to give you, I don't have anything to leave you..."He started, his gaze fixed on the sky, his voice as steely as before. "...but I know that my love for you is infinite. I can never stop loving you. Ever since I met you, I knew that you were the one for me, like if I knew we were going to be with each other forever." He turned to me, his face stoned, but his eyes revealing such a touching nature, they struck me down and left me defenseless.

Tears began to stream down my face. This is the man whom I loved with every ounce of my being, who I'd give everything up for. I would put him before anything or anyone and he is the man I couldn't live without. "I love you, Jackson. That phrase alone can't describe what I truly feel, but I know that it means so much and I mean every word of it. I can't imagine life without you because you are my life. I love you."

"I love you, too Todd." He leaned in for a kiss, but whispered first..."I really do.." and then our lips met and we were sharing each others souls, tears running down my face and joy tingling all over my body. I felt as if I were invincible, celestial. Everything was heightened, and the moment was perfect. We laid down and enjoyed the view up above as we held hands and I laid down on his chest.

Another Love Story: Chapter 5 - Apology accepted

This was the moment. Our lips were so close to meeting. I haven't felt this nauseous, this excited, this...feeling ever. It was exactly the way he described it, so strange, but right in so many ways. The idea of him not being next to me was just to...

Another Love Story: Chapter 4 - "I still can't believe it..."

I woke up with the sound of my alarm going off again, but this time, it sounded so far away. 'Ugh, my head.' I thought as I ran my paw through my head, this time, however, the bump was so much more tolerable. I stretched my paw and I felt it hit...
