Part 5: Forgiveness
#5 of Night Wing
Michael spotted the bay from the sky as he soared through the sky towards his destination. Soon he would come to terms with his decision to violate his contract he would also know weather Night Wing could forgive him for it. He descended near the warehouse landing on the roof of the building silently by gliding in on nylon wings that he activated with a button. He looked in through the sky light looking down at all his friends all instruments of war that defied their purpose doing what they knew was right.
Sitting in a comfortable chair at the door was Griz, The big old bear watching the door for visitors. Sitting at the table in the corner was jack and Robbie the funny weasels that loved to sit all day and play cards while accusing each other of cheating (he was pretty sure they both did too). At another table near the beds was john a skunk and bob the badger looking at some of the scenic pictures in the American sites magazine he had given them. On a cot near them rested Jen the seductive fox, a sly customer but friendly. Then there was Jordan the rabbit sitting in the lazy-boy watching a porno show on the computer screen, he brought meaning to the phrase fuck like rabbits. On the couch cuddled up together was Maria and Ben a pair of badgers they were happy just being in love nothing else came before that in there minds. Then from her office walked the mother figure Lisa, the woman was an inspiration in every way. She had kept them all together with her strength and courage and they loved her dearly. Michael had to admit he thought of her as a mother. Finally he looked over the side to see his true love. Night Wing or Sasha as she decided she wanted to be His loving bat. Her beauty never stopped amazing him.
Michael hooked his rope to the edge of the window ledge and closed the visor on his helmet he jumped through the window sliding down the rope landing with a thud. Within a few seconds all his friends had him surrounded and even his love was in the circle. He raised his hands to show his surrender and masked his voice.
"I am not here to hurt any of you," Michael said.
Lisa walked forward and smiled, "I knew you government fucks would come eventually. Maybe you should tell me why I shouldn't let my children tear you limb from limb."
"You won't because I was hired to kill you, because I choose not to fulfill my assignment. You won't kill me because I came to surrender," Michael said in a low voice.
"Why would you decide to ruin your life for me, why in gods name would you believe that I am going to believe you," Lisa said almost chuckling.
Michael sighed and pulled off his helmet letting it fall to the floor. Everyone recoiled in shock including Lisa. Night wing landed in front of him a tear in her eye.
"I'm sorry everyone for not telling you the truth. I have come to beg your forgiveness and to die if you so choose," Michael said dropping to a knee.
After a few moments Lisa finally started to pull herself together, "Michael I think you better explain all this but first things first if what your saying is true are we in danger?"
"No the agency doesn't know where I am or about any of them just you Lisa and they don't know where you are," Michael said.
"Michael get up and get out of your gear then we will all sit and you can explain this all from the beginning," Lisa said softly.
Michael responded by walking into the office and closed the door. He took out a set of clothes he had stored in the closet for when he was around and started taking off his gear. He heard the door open and then closed but never turned around, he knew it was Sasha but he was afraid to look at her. He felt her paw on his shoulder slowly rubbing then moving. He felt a claw extend and stop short of cutting his throat. Michael stood still not moving as the claw trembled.
A soft voice spoke behind him, "Why Michael? Why didn't you tell me?"
Michael sighed, "I couldn't it was my job."
A soft whimper followed, "so I was just a tool."
Michael turned a tear on his cheek and looked deep into her eyes, he slowly reached up and gently squeezed her paw, "No my love. I love you I have loved you since I met you. I left the agency because I love you, because I never would hurt you even if it meant my life in return. Please forgive me, I have given everything I know to be with you and protect you I won't betray you."
Sasha hugged him tightly crying into his chest as he held her tightly.
"I love you Michael I know you wouldn't hurt me I know you won't betray us," Sasha said softly.
Michael finished changing and sat holding Sasha for a few minutes before they came out together. He looked at his friends none of them looking friendly anymore. What would they think of him now he pondered? Michael and Sasha sat on the couch and the rest crowded around most looking ready to attack. Lisa walked forward to sit next to Michael but Jack stopped her, "I don't believe it would be wise to trust him at close distance mother."
Michael sighed, "I don't blame your distrust jack I have a lot to atone for but I hope you may one day forgive me."
Lisa piped up, "Jack stop worrying about this old woman I can take care of myself besides have you all forgotten who this is? Despite it all this is still Michael your friend and my son in law when I think about it."
"Thank you Lisa for your support," Michael said.
"Now Michael why don't you tell us all what is going on," Lisa said pouring a drink.
"I was until earlier today Agent 5 of the Mercenary Contract Corporation World Agency, better known in the spy game as the MCCWA. I have been a contract Mercenary for close to eight years and my last assignment was to find and terminate Lisa Brackson. I got a lead that you were in this city and established a base of operations last year. I knew nothing of the reasons why they wanted you or of your research and I never dreamed of any of this. Three months ago I broke communications when I concluded that I had fallen in love with Sasha. Now a contract has been put out on me and I have been classified as a defector. My old friend deleted all my information and set it up to look like I did it so that they have no way to find me. To make sure I have already destroyed my apartment and all I have outside this building are my Swiss bank accounts. I know I have betrayed the trust of all of you and you all must think I am a heartless government killer. If you decide I should die I will understand," Michael looked to the floor, "I am ashamed to have lived the life I have."
A large paw descended onto Michaels shoulder and Michael looked up to see Griz with a smile on his face, "I can't speak for the others but I can understand and I still trust you Michael you could have turned us in and instead you're here at our sides for the woman you love and for the friends you hold dear."
Sasha squeezed his hand with hers and smiled, "I love you Michael and this doesn't change that you left for me and for all of us."
The others all smiled and gave their praise hugging Michael and smiling.
"Thank you my friends you have shown me why it was wrong to be who I was and you are the family I didn't have before I promise to help protect you by any means I can."
Lisa smiled and gave Michael a hug, "I am happy to hear it sonny, now why don't you grab yourself a cot and get some rest we have a lot to talk about tomarow so you should get some relax time."
Michael smiled and picked up Sasha and carried her over to a cot as she giggled and laid down with Sasha on top of him. She smiled and wrapped her wings around him giving him a long soft kiss as they slowly faded off to sleep.
