Thanks again AIM: blackcatfurfan * * * Six whole months we've been together, and throughout I haven't been happier, I always looked towards his company at the end of a long, hard day. The way he caressed me when he held me, how he treated me, something that I wouldn't give up for the world. His soft unspoken eyes paved a path for me straight into my heart. I couldn't be without him. "Six months...." I exhaled out of my mouth. Time had gone by so fast, I wanted an eternity with him. I was asking for too much. "Did you say something?" He asked, his face now turned towards mine. "Oh, I..." My voice trailed off, slowly fading into the sounds of the TV. "No, never mind, I was just thinking out loud." I wanted to tell him exactly what I was thinking. I brushed the thought aside, thinking it was too childish to tell him. I didn't want to ruin the precious moments we had spent together. He wrapped his arm around my back, allowing me to be closer to him. I exhaled deeply, letting my exhumed frame collapse against his. I loved him for who he was, his peace with himself made myself naturally calm and lighthearted around him. I watched the walls around us flicker with light emitted from the Television set. We were supposed to be watching a movie, but I had hardly passed a glance it. I was more interested in his company and my time with him. I heard his stomach rumble, making him shift positions on the couch. "A little hungry I presume?" I asked as I started to draw idle circles on his abdomen. He laughed, "Yeah, I suppose I am. Would you like to go out for something to eat?" He asked, noticing my hands on his stomach. "Or perhaps we could pick-up some take out?" "Sure" I responded. We both got up out of the grooves we created on the leather sofa and headed towards the door. He opened the door for me as we walked outside, feeling the cold wind whip my nose, I shuddered from the cold greeting. He placed his arm around me and pulled me close, keeping me warm and safe with him as we walked down the steps towards my truck. I kicked a few rocks off the path while walking, his arm still wrapped around my back, embanking in my time spent with him. I started the engine, hearing the thousands of parts mashing together, bringing this already tired beast back to life. It sputtered from its rude awakening, and slowly purred back into a ready idle. "So did you have a place in mind?" I asked, backing out of the garage. "Oh, no, I really didn't sorry. I thought you knew of a good place." "Actually," I replied, "I do have a good place in mind, are you up to eating Italian?" I asked with a smart smirk on my face. I had learned that he was weak for Italian, his bloodlines. "Sure, always am, always will be." He laughed and flipped on the radio, letting it fill in the gaps of stillness the night had provided. We rambled down the road, turning into a maze of streets, luckily I knew this town well enough, otherwise we'd be dead lost. I glanced at my dashboard clock, eight twenty-six. I noticed that it was a very still night, not many people on the road, and those who were looked to be back to their homes in a hurry. We continued down the long, winding roads. I finally recognized the large neon sign that held it's own place in the sky just above the restaurant. I noticed the parking lot, full to the brim. I glanced across the street and noticed an empty store, closed for the night, and decided to park there. My truck rambled across the gravel, the wheels slowly grinding the gravel as we pulled into the empty spot. I abruptly shut off the engine and stepped out of the vehicle. "I hope you don't mind us crossing the street" I said with a sheepish smile, my face burning a bit from the warm air inside of the cab to the cold outside air. "Well, we're already here, so no, of course I don't mind!" He said as he took my hand in his. The street was cold and glistening from the lights that drooped overhead, giving us a orange glow for available light. We stepped in synced strides, trying to avoid the cold nipping at our exposed fur as I shivered from a cool breeze that snuck between my legs. "Are you cold? Here, hold on, let me go get my coat from your truck, you'll need it" He said letting his hand out of mine. "No, no, really it's..."

A loud engine engulfed the still setting of the night making the trees whisper as it passed. At the wheel was a moderately older male, a little tipsy from drinking too much. His hand shifted the knob again into 4th as his other hand landed on a half-empty bottle of whiskey. He picked it up, grunting to open the unforgiving cap. His attention completely taken away from driving, he stumbled to hold the wheel with his knee as he still worked on the stubborn cap. He swore under his breath as the cap finally broke free from it's closed position. He leaned back into the seat gulping the last of the whiskey, unknowing of what lied ahead. * * *

At first, I didn't pay any attention to the oncoming car, I figured it would have at least seen me in the middle of the street, but it kept coming. My heart began to race, pounding my chest like a drum. I didn't think, I didn't know what to do, he was aimed right towards the unknowing stallion. "Rick!" I had no choice at this point, . I ran towards him, pushing every ounce of adrenaline in my body to the brink of collapsing. I aimed for his back and jumped. The sound of crushing glass muted my existence in the world at that point, my blurred vision filled with blood and tears led me to a darkness on which I couldn't comprehend, I began to slowly relax. Endorphins flooded my body, making me deaf and blind to the outside world. My body was shutting down. * * *

"Mister, mister, would you like to buy flowers for your grave?" I glanced around, I was lying in a hole. What was going on? "Sorry, I don't have any money on me." I responded calmly. A light flashed towards my eyes, I began to fly into a dark tunnel. A muffled noise began to protrude my ears, faintly beeping in the distance. The colors from the scene slowly melted into each other, slowly fading into black. * * * My eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the bright lit room I was now in, pain immediately flared in my appendages. Scorn and sore I moved to free myself from the torturous pain I was now in. "No, no, stop, it's alright." A familiar voice called, it's broken sound told me someone else besides me was in pain as well. A ghostly image appeared before my eyes. Someone that I remembered so well appeared before me, the same image I saw just before... "Oh god," I managed to exhale out. "Are you alright?" I asked. "I...I'm fine." Rick managed between tears. I looked him over, his eyes told it all, his face was scuffed and his arms bruised, but more pain emitted from his face than anywhere else. Slowly he took my hands into his and laid his head upon the bar that supported the bed. His glance was faced towards the floor. "You saved my life Drake. Why?" He asked. I could hear the patter of tears against the floor. His head raised as I saw the stream of tears run down his face, making paths into the stressed wrinkles he portrayed. I reached over, pulling him closer and wiped the tears away looking him straight in the eyes, "All in the name of love, Rick." I kissed him deeply, reminding him of what it feels like to be loved. He smiled as he pulled back from me, "Thank you." He added. His hands clasped mine again, I began to drift away again, too exhausted to open my eyes again. I felt him kiss me on the forehead once more. "Get some sleep, I'll see you in the morning". I put a smile upon my face, too tired to try to say anything. He got the message and kissed my hands before he let them go. I heard him clad upon the linoleum floors of the hospital room and lay upon the chair provided for guests before, he himself, sighed and closed his eyes from the nights events. I relaxed again. All in the name of love, Rick.
