Leroy’s Transformation
For Zohaku
By Draconicon
Viridian Forest was one of the things that had given the nearby city its name, Leroy was pretty sure. There wasn’t much of the color in the city proper, while out here…well, the color was everywhere. And thankfully for him, it disguised the more benevolent Metapods more than it did the –
“ACK!”
He ducked just in time to avoid a Poison Sting shot from a Kakuna that was hanging a few trees over. Leroy poked his head back around the tree, and matched the yellow-shelled Pokémon glare for stony glare. It had no point, really, but he was getting a little annoyed about having to deal with that all the time. Every single time that he traveled through the forest, he ended up finding patches of them everywhere.
One of these days, he hoped that one of the stronger trainers – or hell, a group of local ones – would come through and make a bit of a cull for the population, but he didn’t think it would happen. The forest was the stomping grounds of too many new trainers, and even he knew that he needed the weaker bugs to battle against before he could get strong enough to challenge anyone.
“Stupid arbitrary strengths and weaknesses.”
He shook his head as he picked a different route, keeping a stretch of trees between him and the Kakuna patch. Every now and then, he caught sight of the black eyes of the bugs, but they couldn’t get a good shot at him. That was all that mattered.
As the danger passed, he relaxed, walking down the path with his arms folded behind his head. Despite himself, his mind started to wander, thinking of the things ahead. The ideas of new Pokémon, the challenges that he would have to face, the other trainers rushing ahead with him; all of it would add up to one hell of an adventure.
And it was one that he was honestly a little scared of.
Not so much that he would give up, but one that left him feeling…well, ill-prepared. Despite the Pokémon already in the balls at his belt, he felt like he wasn’t strong enough, like he wasn’t good enough to keep up with everyone else. It always seemed like he had to struggle all the time to get past his opponents, while his rivals breezed through everything.
It wasn’t his Pokémon. The team was a good one, and he had made sure that they all trained regularly, so that they wouldn’t fall behind. He knew that it wasn’t that his rivals had better Pokémon, either. They all had the same chance.
Maybe it’s me…
The thought lingered for a bit before he shook his head, trying to get rid of it, but it kept buzzing around. Maybe it was him, even if he didn’t want to admit it. All the trouble could be because he was too weak, too soft. Everybody else always showed confidence. He showed…well, he called it humility. It was probably something worse.
His good mood started to drift away, but before he could try and get it back, he heard a whistling in the sky. He turned to look up, and his eyes went wide.
“Holy crap…”
It was a meteorite. It had to be, what with how huge it was, and how quickly it was falling, and the flaming tail, and –
“Oh god, it’s headed right here!”
Leroy turned with a scream, running away as the meteorite sailed towards the forest. He ran as hard as he could, the approaching rumble of the falling rock getting as loud as he was, drowning out his screams. It didn’t take long for it to be the only thing he could hear, and he threw himself to the ground.
It turned out to be the right move. The rock sailed overhead and smashed into a stand of nearby trees. Splinters and earth went flying – and probably a few bugs, from the looks of it – and the resulting crater was nearly as deep as he was tall. When he looked up, the flames on the rock had died, leaving splinters and shards of the original meteorite scattered all over the place.
He slowly stood up, walking over to the nearest piece and picking it up. It was silvery in nature, and he was rather surprised to see it looking like…like…
“Huh…it’s almost like a moonstone…but what’s that?”
Inside of the silver-sheened rock was something else. It glimmered, almost like a rainbow gem. He reached in –
Zzzzzap.
“AGH!”
-and dropped it almost immediately as he got a shock up his arm. Leroy shook his head, flexing his fingers as they went numb out of instinct. He glared at the rock almost as hard as he’d glared at the Kakuna, but slowly shook his head.
“Well, whatever it is, it doesn’t like to be touched. I hope that didn’t burn any – what the HELL?!”
As he looked back down at his hand, he knew things were going wrong. His palm was already turning a pale yellow brown, and he wasn’t sure how. Even as he kept staring, the color was spreading outwards, and…and his hand was swelling.
He squeezed down at his wrist, but that didn’t stop it. The color pushed out and up his arm faster than he could stop it, no matter how much pressure he put down. The swelling was worse, though, as he watched his palm plump up. From the bottoms of his fingers all the way to his wrist, it swelled up further and further, rounding out like it was a true extension of his arm rather than a separate piece, a hand.
His fingers weren’t faring much better. Leroy stared in mixed fear and fascination as his fingers started twisting, shrinking down. The bottom knuckle seemed to blend into his hand, and the others melted, leaving each finger pointing straight…well, mostly straight. It had a bit of a curve, like a beak or –
Or a claw, he thought as they started to change color as well. The shorter, thinner digits were rapidly covered in some sort of white-silver color, and two of them were slowly shrinking into his over-sized hand. Leroy shook his head, grabbing at them to try and stop their disappearance, but it happened despite his best efforts.
With his hand completely mutated to be more of a sausage lump with three claw ‘fingers’, he’d almost forgotten about the rest of the change. He looked at his arm to see that the color had flowed all the way up to his shoulder, the same swelling thickening his arm and making his elbows nearly disappear. However, to his relief, he could still bend his arm, moving it up and down. He could take that. His sleeves, however…
Riiiiiiiip.
They couldn’t. He felt his shirt and jacket rip almost immediately, coming apart at the seams as his arm got bigger and bigger. The color spread up over his shoulders before heading down his torso and up his neck, and he had just enough time to see it turn a whiter, creamier color along his chest before he had bigger issues. Namely, what the changes were doing to his face and his head in general.
He groaned as he felt his neck extend a good half foot before it stopped, and he wobbled about at the dizzying new height that he’d achieved. Leroy had barely gotten his feet under him again, however, before the changes continued. As his shirt started to rip, his face started to stretch. Nose, mouth, cheeks, all molded together into a single rounded feature that stretched out from his face. His lips lost distinction, becoming the same color as everything else, and his nose was pushed flat into the rounded lump, becoming nothing more than a pair of holes.
As the change pushed over the top of his head, he quickly came to feel something growing out. A spike, he realized as he pushed down on it with his still-human hand. He panted softly as he felt two other things slowly worming out at the sides, brushing against his hand and sending a strange feeling of pleasure through his body at the same time. He hated it and loved it at the same time.
Soon, his head finished morphing. He couldn’t see much of it, but he knew that he was definitely no longer human. He also knew that he’d seen this color and this head shape before, but he couldn’t remember from where.
A sudden wrench in his back nearly knocked him over, and he had to lean against a nearby tree to stay up. The remnants of his shirt fell off of him in rags, hitting the ground silently as he looked over himself. His chest was in segmented bands of what looked like big scales, and when he ran his new claws over them, he realized how hard they were. Dragon. Definitely some sort of dragon.
The wings clinched that as they finished growing in. They were tiny, so tiny that he almost didn’t think they were done when he looked at them. They couldn’t have been, yet they were.
What was the name? Dra-something. If I can just remember –
Another throb of the change hit him, and he fell over onto his back, nearly crushing the new wings and sending a twinge of discomfort through his body. Leroy shuddered as he looked down at himself, his pants ripping off to show that his genitals had been tucked away inside of him rather than hanging free, something that he appreciated. At least he’d keep his modesty intact…kinda, at least.
His hips swelled as he watched, his legs lifting up and feeling like they were attached more to the sides of his body, rather than coming up from below. He groaned as he tried to move them, feeling how heavy they were with the spreading scales and the strange muscle and fat ratio through them.
No way that I can ever wear pants in this shape, he thought as he saw how thick and short his legs had become. He didn’t even want to think about how hard it would be to cover himself like this.
Still, he watched, despite his own fear, as his legs and feet were covered up with the scales. He saw that his toes were going through the same strange transformation that his hands had gone through, losing two of them with the others turning into claws. His feet in general had become similar rounded extensions of his legs, though at least they stayed flat along the bottom rather than becoming completely round.
One last change hit him, and it was like his entire pelvis was suddenly extending from below and behind. Leroy managed to roll over, getting onto his belly in order to look over his shoulders, and he stared as he watched his new tail grow in.
It was utterly massive, and thick as all hell. Some of the trees around him weren’t as thick trunked as his tail was wide, particularly at the base. He flexed it, and he could feel both its weight and the power of his new muscles as it responded to his mental commands. It stretched out until it was almost as long as he was tall, and considering he’d gained over two feet in height, somehow, that was saying something.
When it was finally done, he felt like the transformation had finished. Standing up slowly, he looked over his body. With everything in place, his body morphed beyond recognition of his former self, he finally realized what he was looking at.
I’m a Dragonite.
It was impossible. Humans couldn’t turn into Pokémon – well, if one didn’t count mad experiments like Bill’s – and they definitely didn’t get this much stronger.
But then again…it had just happened, somehow. Maybe…maybe if he was a Dragonite, he had some moves like one? He definitely had the strength, he realized as he picked up one of the tree shards that had been blasted apart when the meteorite landed. Old Leroy wouldn’t have been able to budge it. As a Dragonite, he could lift it with one hand.
He let it fall, turning his head back towards the Kakuna nest as a slow smile began to spread over his face.
Heh, maybe there’s a way to start cutting down that population after all…
It didn’t take long to retrace his steps, and soon, he was looking around the tree at the Kakuna that had taken a potshot at him just a little while ago. It wasn’t looking at him, and Leroy had no intention of giving the bug another free shot.
Now how do I use Hyper Beam…
It took him a minute of experimenting, but then he found this…inner pool. He had no idea of how else to describe it. It was like he was reaching into this inner energy that refused to be ignored, and he liked the feeling of power that it gave him. He guided it up into his throat, and was immediately struck with a need to shout.
He opened his mouth –
“ROAAAAAR!”
And the beam blasted past his lips with all the force of a primeval god of destruction. The Hyper Beam attack broke through trees and through rock, and it sent the Kakunas hanging from the trees flying into the distance. The new Dragonite stared at the destruction he’d wrought, and slowly looked down at himself again.
Despite the power he’d just exerted, he barely felt like he’d done anything. Yes, he could feel that the energy needed a moment or two to ‘re-fill’ before he could do that attack again, but he knew that he could pull it off a few more times, at least. Not to mention what else he could do with this body.
The attacks of a Dragonite ran through his head. As one of the most powerful dragon-types out there, there were a lot, and he could just imagine each one erupting from his body, one after another. The knowledge that he had this much power at his fingertips, the thought that he could wreak such destruction and be as powerful as even one of the Elite Four’s Pokémon…it was intoxicating.
He turned in his lumbering body, making his way deeper into the forest.

Ten minutes and one battle with a rookie trainer later, Leroy was feeling like he was on top of the world. His new body was smashing anything that got in his way, and if anything managed to stand up to his new brutish strength for long, the power of his Hyper Beam attack always solved things. He’d never had something that worked so well; even with his own Pokémon, he had to be smart about what moves he used, but –
His eyes went wide. His own Pokémon. Leroy turned and started to run, but even as he took flight, he felt a powerful tingle run over his body. It was almost as strong as the one that had hit him when he’d touched the inside of the rock, and he didn’t like the thought of that.
He kept running, even as his wings slowly pulled back into his spine. It stung, but there wasn’t much he could do. He couldn’t stop, even as his legs started pulling themselves back into the proper positions. Gritting his teeth, he pushed through it, running through the trees with as much speed as he could muster, even as it felt like his body was grinding itself apart as it was changing.
It didn’t take long before he could feel the rough bits of the forest floor underfoot again, and he had to bite his lip to keep from yelping as rock and twig and root started digging into his soles. He kept quiet though; the last thing he needed was for some trainer to see a half-transformed person running around and start looking for the source of things. This was his find. He wasn’t about to share it.
Thankfully, he made it back to the crash site without being followed. By the time he got there, his Dragonite self had faded away, leaving behind nothing but a human. A very naked, very embarrassed human. Leroy paused behind a bush, squatting half in it, half behind it, as he looked around to make sure that nobody else was around.
When he was sure that he was alone, he slowly pulled himself out of it, and started making his way towards the shreds of his clothing. He hadn’t done anything with them, and no Pokémon had been back this way just yet. They’d probably all been scared away by the crashing meteorite, for that matter, but it was a small relief. At least all of his stuff would still be where it was supposed to be, since none of the scavenging types would have done anything.
He rooted through the scraps for a few seconds before he felt the signature bump of a pokeball. Sighing in relief, he pulled it out, tapping it so that it grew to full size, before releasing it. The familiar white burst of energy shot out, solidifying into the form of his Ninetails.
“Whew…at least you’re still here.”
The great fire fox looked down at him curiously, but didn’t make a sound. It just wove its tails about, letting them make their usual display. Leroy turned away and kept searching his pockets. Ninetails was his main Pokémon, and the only one that he’d brought along, but he’d had other pokeballs around in case he wanted to catch anything he found. They’d been a bit pricy, too, so he hoped –
But such hopes were dashed. All of them were gone. And with that, he’d lost over a thousand in catching devices. He sighed, but at least it wasn’t the worst thing that could have happened.
His Ninetails walked over to him, sitting down beside his naked form. He smiled as it petted him with a soft tail, and reached over to pat his Pokémon in return.
“Thanks. Don’t worry, things’ll be okay.”
“Nine.”
“Yeah, yeah. I’ll get some more clothes when I get back to town. I just gotta get back there…”
“Tails?”
“I got it, no worries. Back in the ball?”
The great fox nodded, leaning its nose down and tapping against the pokeball. It opened, and the fire-type was swallowed up in little more than a second, drawn into the depths of the ball and locked away. Leroy picked it up, and then paused. He had no belt to put the ball on, nor did he have pockets. For that matter, he wasn’t sure that he had enough shreds around him to make proper clothes of anything.
He looked down at the bits of stuff that he had left. His shirt had been ripped to pieces, and considering that the transformation had been so piecemeal as it went up his arm, he wasn’t surprised to see that the rags and tatters were too small to use. If they’d come off in bigger pieces, then he might salvage something, but now? Not a chance.
His pants, however…
He ran his fingers over the tough material that had formed his pants. They’d split apart in bands, almost. Ripped, but longer, and definitely tougher and unlikely to rip further at this point. Not enough to wear, though. How was he going to…
The stones.
He looked at the fragments of meteorite that still littered the ground. There were enough of them to make for a good collection. The main body of it was too heavy for any human to carry, but if he was a Dragonite again…
Yeah…yeah, I think I could just about do it.
After his experience with that much power, he didn’t want to give up the chance to have it again. There was no way that he could get this home as a human, no way in hell, but there might be a chance as a Pokémon. Not to mention that then he’d have his own private stash of this stuff, and he could transform whenever he wanted. For that matter, maybe he could make it last longer if he used a bigger chunk of the inner material, too.
He decided. He’d take the meteorite home.
His mind made up, he walked around the crash site, gathering up as many pieces of the meteorite as he could find and throwing it into the big crack in the middle of the rock. It would make a good basket for carrying the pieces home before he broke it apart, he thought. At the very least, it would spare him from having to make multiple trips.
Leroy hummed as he worked, smiling to himself as he got the different pieces of the meteorite to fit back into the main body. It was like putting together a puzzle, and sometimes, the pieces didn’t quite want to fit. They must have been missing little splinters or bit pieces, but he didn’t care. As long as it fit overall, he would make it work.
Finally, it was done. He threw the pokeball with his Ninetails on top of the pile, and then turned to the one piece of rock that he hadn’t put back where it came from.
The shimmery light that came from inside caught his attention and held it. The feeling of having that shape again, the anticipation of all the power that came from being a Dragonite, drew him forward more than it should. He had never realized just how good it would feel to be the one in charge of his own life like that, to feel the confidence that that much power would give him. The idea that he could defeat anyone in his way, the feeling that he could take anything the world could throw at him…
He needed it. He needed it badly.
He didn’t hesitate as he grabbed the stone, pressing it against his skin once more. Almost immediately, the scales started coming in, the discoloration spreading as fast as it had the first time. Only this time, it didn’t scare him. This time, he welcomed it.
Leroy leaned back against a tree to watch it happen again, already feeling the pleasant shocks that signaled the changes happening. His body started elongating, getting taller right from the start as the creamy yellow started spreading over his chest, and soon turned a light, pale brown along his shoulders and arms. The swelling, the familiar swelling, was met with a broad grin rather than a shudder and a stare. The power was already flowing through him, and he could feel his strength getting better and better.
He let out a deep, happy sigh, walking towards the meteorite as the changes flowed over him. As his legs thickened, his steps got broader, covering more ground with each successive step, and soon, he was walking almost as fast as a human might run.
Grasping the sides of the great rock, he gave an experimental tug. It left his arms aching, but he could feel the rock turning, twisting in its crater. The transformation wasn’t complete; all he had to do was wait, and he’d have all the strength he needed to lift the meteorite free. All he had to do was wait.
He leaned over the great thing, smiling as his face started pushing out again. Daydreams of being this big, strong Dragonite more often flooded his mind as he hugged the source of his new power, and he took several deep breaths as he imagined just how much he might do for himself.
Then the moment passed. The tingles faded away, and he knew that the transformation was done. He tried lifting the rock again –
And nearly knocked himself to the ground by overbalancing. The meteorite came out of the crater with astonishing ease, and he wobbled a few times before he got his balance back. It took a bit more effort to start flying, but as soon as he was in the air, the smile came back. He had his prize. Now all he had to do was get home with it.
