Akira ran deeper into the ventilation shaft, the smell of blood and Lupains and this unknown smell was getting stronger.

The ventilation shaft was completely shut down, no light shone.

In the darkness he perceived several movements.

He shone with Chesters flashlight in front of him, all rats abruptly fled.

'Ugh, this shitty critters' he thought and was moving through the shaft.

On his feet he could feel some passing by rats.

"Aren't they afraid of me?" Akira said for himself.

He shone in a corner, from which a bestial stench came. There was a huge collection of rat droppings.

Very disgusted he walked on down the shaft until he finally arrived in front of a large grid.

He carefully lifted the grid from the anchor and put it aside, then he crawled down a very steep and narrow shaft.

Akira squeezed himself down the shaft, eventually he got only forward by crawling.

He had to keep his machine gun in front of him to get further.

"Damned, if I hardly get through here, the driver won't fit here under any circumstances. He is bigger," Akira said softly.

In his deep thought and pondering how he could disappear with the driver or without from the plant, he was not paying attention and fell several meters down.

"Ouch," he said and put his hand at his aching head.

He landed so unfortunate that he was lying on his back.

His feet were stretched upwards and his weapon laid a shaft further away.

He hoped that no one had heard the crash, but he was wrong.

Several steps came toward him.

He tried to free himself from his unfortunate position, but his armor slammed repeatedly to the shaft, thereby he drew more and more attention.

Akira tried to turn back until the soldiers were gone, but the way back was too steep, he couldn't go back.

He held his gun in front of him and waited for the soldiers.

He aimed at a grid in front of him and was waiting for the first soldier who poked his head through the grid.

The soldiers in front of the grid started a conversation.

"Did you hear that?"

"Yes what was that?"

"Did anybody drop down the shaft?"

"We should go see."

"Folks, there is no one there, the entire area is monitored by cameras and sensors. They immediately recognize everything bigger than a rat."

'That voice, I know it,' thought Akira.

"Got Sergeant O'Hara"

'O'Hara that bastard is here? If I catch that bastard!'

Akira waited a few minutes, then he crept cautiously to the grid, he looked out through the grid slots.

Everywhere were soldiers, without being discovered, he would never find the driver.

Suddenly while Akira was pondered how he might survive this fight, the power switched off.

"What's going on? Damn! I see nothing," complained the soldiers.

Akira took this opportunity and carefully opened the grid.

He first poked his head out, when he saw the chaos, he crawled quickly out of the shaft.

He closed as a precaution the grid and followed his nose.

The soldiers were waving panic-struck around their arms.

The tactical light of an M16 fell shortly on Akira, when he realized this, he hid behind a pillar.

"Shit, there was something. I've seen something."

"What did you see?"

"A Lupain!"

"Do not talk shit, they are all locked up," said a soldier and shone in Akira's direction.

"See, there's nothing, don't make us crazy."

Akira noticed a helmet in front of him.

'Someone must have dropped it. I have an idea. I throw it into the darkness, which could distract the soldiers shortly,' he thought.

Akira took the helmet and threw it with full force into the right corner of the room.

"What was that?" Asked a soldier.

"No idea."

Akira took the opportunity and ran, but he ran into a soldier.

Both dropped in the collision their weapons.

"What the fuck, can't you watch? ..." Cried the soldier.

Only then he realized, that no human being but Akira was sitting in front of him.

"Aki .. Akira? What are you doing here?" Asked Sergeant O'Hara.

"O'Hara, you bastard!" Akira said, raising his weapon.

"Wait Akira please, do not shoot. You're making a huge mistake. We are on the same side," O'Hara explained.

"What are you talking about. You're just saying that in hope I won't shoot you!"

"If you shoot me the other soldiers will hear it as well. Then the whole basis will know that you are here."

"So what should I do? Go on until you shoot me in the back?"

"No, I will distract the soldiers. Then you can turn left. There is a shaft, if you follow it, you'll see your friends."

"I should believe you? You lied to me, just like the others. You tried to shot me!"

"Stop screaming, otherwise someone will hear you. It's complicated. Perhaps I can explain it to you later. But for now you have to trust me, even if it is difficult."

"Why should I trust you?" Asked Akira.

"You have no choice," O'Hara answered.

"I take your weapon with me" Akira said and walked past O'Hara.

'I should immediately shoot him if he warns the other soldiers' thought Akira as he ran to the grid.

"The power failure is over soon. Our technicians are already working at it," O'Hara soothed the other soldiers.

"Someone here throws with helmets!"

"Calm down. It was my mistake."

"Got Sargent."

Akira climbed into the shaft.

'I don't understand why he helps me. I'm not even a human. I should think about it later. First I have to find the driver,' thought Akira.

He crawled along the shaft and follow his nose.

Apparently, not only the one room, but the entire base was without electricity.

Step by step he followed the scent.

Until the smell of Lupains, blood and the driver was getting stronger.

He looked carefully out of the grid, in the room were everywhere doors.

'I wonder if the driver is behind such a door?' He thought.

He climbed carefully and quietly out of the shaft, he could hear two soldiers talking.

Chesters flashlight fell out from his belt pouch while he was climbing out of the shaft.

"What was that?" Asked a soldier.

'Oh shit, they will see me. I need to be faster. I don't need the sound of guns right now' thought Akira.

He ran quickly toward the two soldiers knocking down the first he.

But the second one was about to point his gun at Akira, but Akira bit in his throat instead.

He felt the warm blood flowing into his mouth, the soldier slowly slumped to the ground.

Akira watched the soldier bleeding to death, as he had done earlier with the Lupains.

'It feels weird to see these soldiers dying. I know his name, but more than a name he isn't to me. He exploited and lied to me and my species just exactly like any other human. I hope he wasn't like O'Hara, he wanted to shoot, I know, I saw it in his eyes,' thought Akira.

"I killed my own species for you, now it's my turn," he said to the dying soldier.

He looked around as he followed the driver's scent.

At the door stood 'cell block B' and 'laboratory'.

'Cell block B? Then I have to be in A. So here is somewhere the laboratory. I hope I don't have to get through,' thought Akira.

He scented the driver and went to his cell, but the door was closed.

The only way to the interior of the cell seemed a code that one had to enter on a keypad.

'Damn, I don't know the code, and I can't hot-wire it without power either,' thought Akira.

An alarm sounded, Akira looked around wildly, with his gun ready.

'A trap' he thought.

He held his gun ready in case the soldiers would attack him from all directions. But nothing happened.

Suddenly he heard someone running toward him.

He pointed his gun at the approaching person and was ready to shoot.

He couldn't tell if it was a Lupain or a human.

"Stay where you are or I'll shoot!" Warned Akira.

But he lowered the gun when he saw who it was. It was Shane.

"Shane?" He asked.

"Yes, don't shoot! I am," Shane said.

"Shane? How did you get here? You're supposed to wait up there for me. How did you manage to come here?" He asked.

"Through me, it was too dangerous for Shane. The motion sensors and a couple of cameras detected you. They would have noticed him sooner or later," said a female voice.

Dr. Carol Witta revealed herself behind Shane.

Akira rushed towards Carol, he pressed her against the wall and choked her.

"Give me a reason not do kill you!", Akira said.

"Let her go Akira, it's Carol" called Shane.

"I know who she is, but we can't trust her."

"You can't trust me? Say, are you all right? I've brought you here. Why do you think the power is out? Why are you standing here to liberate all Lupains?" Said Carol.

"Lies!" Akira said, pressing Carol tighter to the wall.

"No, she's telling the truth," stammered Shane.

"Then tell me Carol, what have you done?" Asked Akira.

"I have helped both to escape and made sure that you're here now. I've been watching you the whole time," Carol replied.

"I don't believe you. How could you know that we can be found here? That was all coincidence!"

"A tracking device only I can see."

"A tracking device? Where is it?" Asked Akira.

"In your right arm, I planted it in you," Carol replied.

"Why?"

"So I know where you are. How else could I turn off the power just before you arrived?"

"How did you do that?"

"First let me go, then I'll tell you."

"Okay, but hurry up."

"I threw a grenade into the transformer station. Then I changed the door code. As soon as the emergency power supply goes on, the doors remain closed for another 5 minutes," said Carol.

"How much time do we have?

"I don't know, the emergency power supply starts in 10 minutes, we might have a maximum of 15 minutes."

"Okay, and how can I free this one Lupain?"

"One? I thought you wanted to free everyone?" Asked Shane.

"The driver has priority. I'll get the others later."

"The driver? Do you know his name?" Asked Carol.

"No, but I know him for sure. But I don't know his name," pondered Akira.

"His name is Ari" Carol replied.

"Ari, so? How do I so open Aris cell?"

"Actually not, because we have no electricity. At least not through the key input. Electronically it does not work, but maybe mechanically. I can tell you how unlock the door. Then you have to push it open."

"Shane, please point your gun at Dr. Carol Witta while I help her."

"Why?" Asked Shane.

"I have to put my gun away and don't want to be shot in the back," Akira said.

"It's all right, Shane. It's good that Akira distrusts us. Then you live longer," Carol said.

"Is that clear? What should I do first?" Asked Akira.

"Take the code input completely off, then you should see a lever. The lever is used for emergency release. The you have to press down," said Carol.

It clacked after Akira took down the code input and actuated the unlock mechanism.

"Now you can push open the door, you have to push to the left," Carol said.

"I understood," Akira said, pressing hard against the door.

First nothing happened, then the door squeaked. At the beginning just a little then louder and louder.

"What's going on? Open the door! That's an order," shouted a soldier and knocked on the door of the cell block A.

"Damn someone must have heard the squeaking."

"Corporal John. What's going on," it sounded from a radio.

"He and his colleague are dead, you sick bastards!"

"Carol, you lousy bitch ..." said a soldier before she switched off the radio.

The beaten to the ground soldier woke up slowly because of the loud noise of the radio.

He lifted his head up.

His lip was cracked open by Akira's impact and a few teeth were missing, these were in a small pool of blood on the floor.

"You lousy traitor whore, you are on the Aliens side," he said, reaching for his M16A3.

Carol moved as fast as she could a pistol from her coat and shot the soldier in the head.

"What was that Carol?" Asked Shane.

"He is one of those fanatics."

"Fanatics?"

"I'll explain it to you later. Is the door open Akira?"

"Any moment," he said, and pushed the door.

"Damn, someone is shooting? We have to get into the cell block. Carol has betrayed us! That bitch!" Resounded from all directions.

"Hurry Akira" called Carol.

"Just a little bit!"

It creaked a final time, the door was open.

Akira snorted and went relieved and full of anticipation in the cell.

"Ari, Ari!" He called, but Ari didn't answer.

Before him lay a large Lupain, this wore instead of armor or normal clothes orange jail clothing.

His feet and hands were fixed with belts.

Akira practically yelled at him, but he didn't respond,.

"Carol, what have they done with him?"

"He is on drugs, they must have given him Flor."

"What do we do now?" Asked Shane.

"If I had my sword I could at least cut these belts."

"Do you mean this?" Asked Shane and showed Akira sword.

"Where did you get it?"

"I figured you need it."

"Damn right," Akira said and ruffled Shanes head fur.

He cut the straps and tried to help up Ari.

But he didn't make it.

"Shane give me a hand. Carol, take my Lupain weapon. Don't get any ideas. You know, only we can use it and pack away your gun. One wrong move and I cut you!"

"Understood."

"How do we get out of here?" Asked Akira.

"Wait, I have to think."

'We can't go back. With Ari, we won't get very far. We could go through the laboratory if my access isn't locked. From there we might get to the truck fleet', thought Carol.

"What now?" Asked Akira.

"We first go through the cell block B and then through the laboratory. From there we may come to the truck fleet," Carol replied.

"Truck fleet? Isn't it full of soldiers?"

"Yes, it is. But that's our only chance. The cars there are ready to go. Full tank and the key is plugged in for emergencies."

"Is it a trap?"

"No, come now. We have a few minutes till the doors unlock."

Shane and Akira carried Ari as fast as they could and ran after Carol.

While Akira thought about whether Carol would betray them, every step to the laboratory was agony for Shane.

'I don't want in this laboratory. It's so terrible there. I am so scared to see the dead again," thought Shane.

"How big is this cell block B anyway? There won't be 30 Lupains" asked Akira.

"How do you get to 30? Here are over 200 Lupains" Carol replied.

"Of course, and I'm supposed to believe you? Why do humans have so many Lupains and how are they guarded by only two soldiers?"

"The other subjects have captured them. First they were killed, now they are held prisoner and the thing with the soldiers is very simple. With the drugs the Lupains are calmed. Until they ..." panted Carol.

"Until they what?" Asked Akira.

"Until they die," Carol replied.

"They die? By what?"

"By General Myers new species. He will kill us all with it."

"What do you mean with us? The Lupains?"

"No all! Every living thing on this planet. Myers is totally insane and doesn't see the risks. He thinks he can master this new species. But he is wrong."

"What species, Carol?"

"Only a handful of scientists and high-ranking soldiers know. O'Hara and I don't belong to this group."

"Why do they need a new species?"

"In order to drive you from this planet and if necessary exterminate you. But I doubt that these creatures can be mastered."

"Can you tell me more?"

"Not now, we have to hurry. I'll explain everything later."

When they reached the laboratory door, Carol tried to unlock the door, but her access was blocked.

"Shit. They have blocked my access. We don't come in the laboratory," Carol said.

"Is the glass there bulled proof?, asked Akira.

"Yes of course."

"Give me my gun, I bet it only withstands human weapons."

Carol pressed Akira his weapon in his hand. He aimed at the door and its cartridges smashed effortlessly the glass.

During an alarm sounded and Akira wanted to go with Ari through the laboratory, Shane stopped.

"I, I'm not going in there. I don't want in there. I don't want to see more dead," whimpered Shane.

"Shane what are you talking about, we must continue. We have almost made it."

"I know it must be hard for you to be here again. I see your scar from the last time. Just close your eyes and we run through here as fast as possible by" Carol said.

"No, no," cried Shane and refused.

He began to cry. His tail writhed.

"I have an idea. I bandage your eyes and we run as fast as possible through the laboratory. Shane I know you're scared. But you have to be brave. We urgently need to continue. The soldiers are on our trail. If you want I hold you by the hand," said Carol.

"Yes please," Shane said.

Carol went to Akira and took off the scarf from him and bandaged Shanes eyes.

She took Shanes hand, she felt that it was shaking and his heartbeat, it's pace seemed to increase.

She led the Lupains further through the laboratory.

All around them were parts of Lupains. Heads, limbs and brains were preserved in alcohol.

"How sick. Did you know about that Carol?" Asked Akira.

"Yes, unfortunately," Carol replied.

"Why have you and O'Hara done nothing?"

"A scientist and a soldier against an army. That's just too much. We help as best we can."

"If the Lupains could see that, they would destroy this base."

"I have something for you in my right pocket. A USB flash drive, it is a video of me. It shows some secret documents and images that I had secretly taken with the phone. Show it somehow the Lupains and show them the way here."

"The Lupains won't believe me. I don't want to know how many of them I killed."

"This Ari could help you. He speaks our language and the Lupains. As a translator he would be perfect."

"He speaks our language?"

"Yes, I could read this from his record."

While Carol and Akira talked, they heard knocking and shouting.

"Hey, you there, we are imprisoned here. Are you Lupains? Then get us out of here," cried two voices.

"Who's that?" Asked Shane.

"I don't know, it could be the two subjects 4009XY 4013XX, their execution is planned. You should actually be cut open tomorrow morning."

"Why?" Asked Shane.

"Quite simply. General Myers hates Lupains and wants to kill everyone of you. The experiments have been completed without success. He orders their execution for fun!"

"This bastard!" Shouted Shane.

"Do these subjects also have names, Carol?"

"Yes, Kai and Shakiria."

"We can't let them die. I also was in there!" Called Shane.

"I'm sorry, Shane. We have no time to set them free," said Carol.

"Shane, we have Ari and must carry him through the base. I can't carry more."

"Are they hurt? Maybe they can help us?" Asked Shane.

"I think not, but we don't come in in the laboratory cells," said Carol.

"We didn't come in the laboratory or? If I give my last bullets in order to save two Lupains instead of killing them, I do it."

"Kai and Shakiria walk away from the door, I'll shoot them open!" Akira shouted and blew up the closure of the cells.

From the two cells two Lupains came forth.

Subject 4009XY Kai was a not muscular male Lupain. He had green blue eyes and dark brown fur.

From another cell sneaked out another Lupain.

It was 4013XX Shakiria, she was a female Lupain. Her coat color was light brown. Her eyes were light blue.

Both Lupains wore orange jail clothes, on which was their subject number.

"Thank you, that you have brought us out there. Who are you?" Asked Shakiria.

"We have no time for formalities. The soldiers are right behind us. Your name is Kai? Help me with this great Lupain. Shane you can let go," said Akira.

But when Kai saw Carol he grabbed her. he held his claws to her throat.

"What's that?" Asked Carol.

"You make common cause with the humans. Who are you?" asked Kai.

"Kai, what are you doing? Let her go," ordered Shakiria.

"No, Shakiria. I hate humans! They made us to killers and now they want to cut us open."

"It is not so, Kai!" Called Shane.

"We are three Lupains and a human named Dr. Carol Witta. She saved me and Shane of these monsters that are just behind us. Trust us, help us to escape," said Akira.

"Kai, stop it. Why would they be here otherwise. They haven't saved us to betray us," said Shakiria.

Akira heard steps coming towards him.

"Let go of Carol and help me carry Ari. We have no time."

Kai released Carol and went to Akira.

"We help you escape. Then we disappear."

"I don't care what you do," said Akira.

Kai helped Akira and they carried Ari together through the laboratory.

"Here it is. O'Hara showed me this old exit. The door hasn't been opened for years. Behind is directly the truck fleet. We have to break down the door and shoot us the way," said Carol.

"We have no weapons!" Shouted Kai.

"We'll give you weapons, but we want them back then," said Akira.

"It's fine," replied Kai.

"Don't get any ideas. Shane give Kai and Shakiria the guns out of the backpack."

"Okay Akira," said Shane.

"Have you ever shot with it?" Asked Akira.

They both nodded.

"Shane and Kai, you carry Ari, now I break open the door. Shoot any soldiers you see."

"Except O'Hara!" Shouted Carol.

"Is he here at all?" Asked Akira.

"No, it was stupid. Break the door open Akira," Carol replied.

Akira ran toward the door.

With his elbow he jumped against the door.

After a loud bang the door cracked open.

Akira immediately opened fire on the soldiers.

He shot two soldiers, who were on guard there, in the head.

Shakiria stood beside him and took care of the third.

While Akira and Shakiria gave the others fire protection, they packed Ari in a hammer, Carol wasn't with them.

"I knew it!" Cried Kai.

"Where is she?" Asked Akira.

"I'm here!" She whimpered, behind her stood Sev.

"Well Akira, do you still know me? I owe you this scar. I don't forget it!" Cried Sev.

"The soldiers have used you. Just for fun," Carol said.

"Tell no nonsense. General Myers has told me the truth about you traitors!"

"He lied to you."

"No, you are the liar!" Shouted Sev.

"We aren't traitors, we are all Lupains. People have just used us," Shakiria said.

"You are invaders. Only General Myers can save us all. In a minute the other soldiers are here. Then you will be destroyed," shouted Sev.

"We have no time for that," Akira said and pointed his gun at Sev.

Akira exhaled slowly and aimed at Sev's head, he pulled the trigger.

But instead of a bulled his weapon clacked. He had shot all his ammunition.

"Akira, you bastard, you pay for that" Sev said, shoving Carol forward.

Just before she fell to the ground Sev pulled out a gun and shot Carol in the back.

The bullet escaped at Carol's belly.

"A traitor less," he said, spitting at her.

"You sick bastard!" Shouted Kai.

"Carol!" cried Shane.

Sev began to aim at Akira, but after a loud bang he fell to the ground.

Akira had his gun just at hand and Shakiria had already shot.

'Wow, that's very fast," thought Akira.

Shakiria shot Sev in the right arm.

He lied whining on the ground.

"You shallow bitch shot me in the arm. Damn invaders!"

"Why didn't you shoot him?" Asked Kai.

"He's just a toy of General Myers. If he falls, he will again know who he is."

"We have to continue, we don't have much time!" Shouted Akira.

"Who's going to drive this thing?" Asked Kai.

"Carol could drive it, but she is ..." sighed Shane.

"What am I?" Asked Carol invalidated.

"Carol, is everything okay?" Asked Shane.

"Not for long, help me in the car, I drive you as best I can."

"I once saw how to drive such a thing. I can help her," shouted Kai.

"Then hurry." Shakiria said.

The Lupains and Carol got into the hammer.

In the back seat sat Ari, Shane and Shakiria.

In the front Carol and Kai sat on the driver's seat, in the passenger seat was Akira.

"So let's get started," she said and turned the key.

The engine started and they drove off.

An alarm sounded and the soldiers, which they had fled from, opened fire on the hammer.

"Down" cried Akira and ducked.

"Step on it Carol!"

"Fasten your seat belts, now lets get started," she said as she lost more and more blood.

"We have to stop her bleeding somehow, the blood is already running the down seat!" Shouted Shakiria.

Shane put his scarf on Carols wound and held it firmly to stop the bleeding.

"Ouch, damn that hurts!" Shouted Carol.

"I'm sorry, Carol."

"It's all right, thank you Shane."

"Carol, in this state you never manage it to the apartment. You have to go to the hospital."

"To the hospital? The government is behind all of these experiments. Once I'm there, I'm captured, tortured and then killed. General Myers wanted since long my dead. Maybe he gets it now."

"Can't we go to the junkyard?"

"To the junkyard, what the hell do you want there?" Carol asked.

"We are safe there, we came from there. There we can take care of your wound," Shane said.

"Yes, that might work," said Akira.

"And where is it? Can you navigate me there?" Carol asked.

"Yes, I know the way roughly," Akira said.

They drove down the street and Akira navigated them.

Shortly after they arrived at the junkyard Carol fainted.

While Akira and Kai hid the hammer in the junkyard, Shane and Shakiria took care of Carol and Ari.

"How is the big? one doing?"

"He lies on the couch, sleeping. I don't know what people have given him. But it appears to act very well on us. He's like spaced out."

"How is Carol?"

"She is very weak. I don't know if she can manage it. We have stopped the bleeding, but she has lost a lot of blood."

Shane walked slowly into the living room, Carol was lying there on the big wooden table.

She breathed more and more irregular and she was very pale.

He laid his head on her breast and heard her heartbeat.

"Carol, please do not die," he lowered his ears and began to cry.

"Shakiria, please help her, her heartbeat is becoming weaker," he shouted.

"I'm sorry, we can't help her."

Shane pressed his face against Carols and was trembling all over.

Suddenly he felt a hand on his neck.

"Shane?" Carol said in a weak voice.

"In my pocket is a USB flash drive. Watch the video. The video is very important. Watch the video ..." she said until she fell silent.

"Carol, you must not die," cried Shane.

But her heart stopped beating.

"Carol, no! Please wake up."

"She's dead, Shane, I'm sorry", Shakiria said, hugging him.

After Shakiria left the living room, Shane licked Carols forehead and put the flower he had picked for Chester on her chest.

"Thank you for everything," he said and dug into her pockets.

Softly padded behind him Akira toward him.

"I'm sorry. You knew better her than me."

Shane ran weeping at Akira and hugged him.

Akira licked Shanes forehead.

"You need to rest. I keep watch," Akira said, sitting down in the chair.

"I keep watch. You have to sleep or to you want to go now?" Asked Shakiria.

"We stay the night. You also got us out there. We protect each other," Akira said.

"We stay until tomorrow, not a day longer, Shakiria" Kai said.

She stuck out her tongue and grimaced.

"Don't worry, Shane. We stay longer with you. Where should we go anyway."

Except for Akira all Lupains slept deeply.
