Hello there, I am an aspiring author new to sofurry.com! I am a 19 year old, bisexual, residing in Illinois.
For the most part I will be writing gay, adult-themed, Pokemon fan-fiction. If that's not your thing please move along. If however, you enjoy such stories please read, rate and enjoy.
This story is the third in my new series
Here's a quick summery
trainer: John (Johnny) Wells, age 19, born into a rich family, he had everything. He however, didn't appreciate the uptight, self-entitled nature of the upper class. At age 16 he left home to become a self-made and truly happy individual. Taking with him only his eevee, (Now umbreon) he put his fortunes behind him to face the harsh riggers of life.
He now lives a self-sustaining lifestyle amidst his loving pokemon. He however has little to no human companionship. He loves his pokemon as comrades, but lately new feelings have risen from deep within him...
The Ill Fortune of Johnny Wells
Chapter 3
A Dream Within a Daydream
“I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand--"
“Interesting choice my boy." Came a voice from afar.
William Wells now stood within the doorway of the large library. Row after row of polished wooden bookshelves, ancient manuscripts and the smell of old books filled the room. This was Johnathan's favorite place. The Library. It was here that young Johnathan learned of prose and literature. It was here that he could escape this world momentarily, to get lost in a story. But now his father was here, expecting his full attention. One thing that everyone knew, but didn't say aloud. You don't ignore William Wells.
John stopped reading, looking up from his book. His father stood there tall and proud, awaiting his response. He was a tall man, roughly six feet two inches, with jet black hair. His build was wide, his shoulder's broad. He was muscular, but somehow elegant at the same time. Johnathan had the same hair, the same grace, but wasn't as bulky. He was thinner, not fragile, but not massive either, and he had his mother's eyes. William cleared his throat, his voice resounding in a cool, collected manner.
“Interesting choice"
“Yes father. I find Poe rather... inspiring," John said
William Wells spoke finishing the poem.
“** How few! Yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep--while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?"**
“Yes, I know it well" His father stated plainly. “Edgar Allen Poe... a bit dark, but good prose nonetheless"
“Shouldn't you be at your fencing lesson?" His father continued, eying his son quizzically.
“The pen is mightier than the sword, father," Johnathan replied.
“Touche," his father said, raising his eyebrows a little. “But who said that?"
“Edward Bulwer-Lytton," John replied, satisfied in having known the answer.
“Hmm... Impressive," William said. “Very well. You can skip lessons for today, but only this once."
William Wells turned to leave the room, stopping in the lager wooden doorway.
“Enjoy your books, my boy. Perhaps you should read The Raven, one of Poe's finer works"
Johnathan sat in the library, thumbing the pages of his book. He flipped to the page he had already marked with a folded corner. “The Raven." he read aloud. He had read it many times already, but started to read it once more.
Johnathan read....
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“'Tis some visitor," I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—
“Only this and nothing more." Came a quiet voice from across the room
John's head snapped up and he looked at the voice's owner. A grim, ghastly figure stood in the corner of the room, staring at Johnathan intently. Angel. There he stood, pale and dead. His eyes were hollow and he wore torn rags of clothes on his bruised body.
“Why did you leave me" Angel said in a raspy voice
“Why?"
Johnathan woke with a shock, sitting up quickly. He blinked twice taking in his surroundings, his tent. “A nightmare," he told himself, “Just a nightmare." He couldn't clear his mind. The thoughts of that boy, of Angel, his body bruised and dead. He shook his head. “No!" He whispered, “It's not real." Tears began to well up behind Johnathan's eyes.
“Are you ok?" said a voice inside his head.
It was Umbreon who had spoken. It had been two weeks since Eevee had evolved into Umbreon and developed telepathic abilities. The dark type could now speak directly into his trainer's mind, allowing them to communicate in ways they never could. But telepathy was a two way channel. Not only could Umbreon share his thoughts, he could read others thoughts as well. John wasn't very comfortable with this, but what could he do?
“I'm fine" John said, as Umbreon entered the tent.
“No. You're not" came a mental reply “That was some dream"
“Hey!" Johnathan yelled, tears streaming down his face.“Those are my dreams not yours."
Umbreon walked up to his trainer, his lover and his friend. He sat beside John, nuzzling his arm, wanting to comfort the boy. He sat there a while, purring affectionately until John patted the dark type's head.
“I'm sorry... for yelling at you," Johnathan said. “I'm just not accustomed to people seeing my thoughts."
“I look because I care for you," Umbreon replied.
“Do you miss him?"
John looked up, surprised. “What?"
“The boy in your dreams," his Pokemon said, “Do you miss him?"
Johnathan nodded. He did miss the boy very much. He had hardly known him, but there was something about him. There was kindness buried somewhere deep down, deep under the boy's angry facade. John had only hoped to bring that kindness to life, but now he was gone. Angel, or Ace as his friends had called him, was gone and John only hoped he was well.
“I'm sure you'll see him again," Umbreon said telepathically.
“I don't know," John said, “If I did He would probably hate me for leaving him behind"
“You had to leave," Umbreon said, “It was out of your control"
“I know, but..." Johnathan began but was quickly cut off.
“Hush now, it will be ok." Umbreon interrupted,in a soothing mental voice. “We'll find him"
“How," John asked.
Umbreon looked at him and smiled. “We go back to town," he said.
Johnathan shuttered. “I can't" he said, “I can't go back there"
“If you want to track down the boy..." Umbreon began., “Then that is the only way."
John nodded, knowing that this was the truth. He didn't want to go back, he had left for a reason. He however, missed the boy, Angel, and wanted to know what had become of him. Johnathan thought this over and then nodded again.
“We'll go," John said finally. “In a week or so." Then he added, “Tell the others."
“Umbreon stood and walked to the tent's entrance."
“Oh and Umbreon." He called.
“Yes John," came the reply.
"Thank you" He said. “Thank you for being there for me. I... I love you guys so much."
Umbreon grinned and walked out, a faint red blush visible on it's muzzle
Johnathan got up and began getting ready for the day. Today was foraging day, and he and his Pokemon would soon leave to gather berries and herbs, among other things. Maybe they would even fish, if the weather allowed, but for now John simply got ready. Little did he know that today would be lazy and full of daydreams. Daydreams of his Pokemon and of Angel, the stranger he loved.
His thoughts were cut short by a now familiar voice inside his mind.
“I love you too Johnathan Wells"
