Gao and Drum's adventure in Legend World continue. The rulers of the Fairy Kingdom arrive to discuss the looming threat. Throughout it all, the thoughts of what might come after still dwell in both dragon and human.

Just in time for Valentine's Day. A bit of fluff in between plot stuff.

It was late in the evening when the rulers of the Fairy Kingdom neared Arthur's castle. The sun had set behind the mountain range, casting the kingdom into the ambient illumination of candle light. It made it all the more apparent when the fairies approached, the beings surrounded in a gold, glowing orb that rocketed through the sky.

The squires stationed as lookouts spotted the orb as it raced across the plains, and the word was sent out; It made it to a squire situated near the entrance hall, where King Arthur's court, alongside Gao and his group, waited patiently.

Or as patiently as one could expect of a young boy and two hungry dragons.

"Jeeze, what's taking them so long?" wondered Gao, slumped over the table until he was practically laying on it.

"My stomach's in knots," bemoaned Drum, holding his audibly growing tummy. "I can't decide if I'm starving or anxious about meeting Oberon."

Axia tried to look stern, but his stomach soon joined in the cacophony. "I'm too hungry to complain…" he moaned, positioning himself so he could rest his head against Drum's shoulder. It said a lot that Drum didn't even flinch at the close contact, the red dragon sighing along with Axia as their stomachs growled their complaints in near perfect symmetry.

"The fae folk are often…flighty with specific times," Shosetsu admitted, earning a glare from the cranky travelers for his pun. "But if they said they will arrive today, then they will. Be grateful you don't have to wait with dinner fully prepared."

The weary groan from the trio was telling of their exasperation, not that they didn't have a reason be. The chefs couldn't properly start until they knew that all the guests had arrived, and they couldn't know that until Oberon had actually arrived. To eat beforehand would be seen as a grave insult to the proud fae and would cause major problems between the kingdoms. That was what Arthur had told the group before leaving them to their own devices several hours earlier.

At first, the trio found plenty to preoccupy themselves with; With collaboration from Shosetsu, Axia finally finished regaling Gao (as well as an impromptu gathering of knights and squires) with their adventures against Lancelot and his accomplices. It eased Drum's nerves that Lancelot shared a look of resigned frustration at his embellished acts, no doubt suffering from the worst case of embarrassment as his misdeeds were laid bare, whenever he was within earshot. Fate did not play favorites, and soon their attention was turned to Drum and his reaction to Sofia's sword.

In the heat of the moment, Drum had been too incensed to consider his friends' opinions on Dragon World culture and honestly thought they would've forgotten that detail. He was truthfully more shocked that Axia hadn't grasped the implications about a dragon's tooth, but he chalked that up to university work taking priority. So with much hee-ing and haw-ing, Drum's culture was made the butt of the joke.

"It's something special to warrior dragons," he explained to an enraptured audience. "If your opponent knocks out a tooth, or breaks off a horn, it's traditional to forge a weapon with it to show that you considered the other a worthy match. After a while, it got used to mean…" he had to swallow and keep his eyes from drifting towards Axia, knowing the sentimental dragon would adore this fact, "devotion. For couples who were intended…to be married…"

He let the sentence hang and stared at the ceiling to avoid the gazes he knew he was being given. His stomach still turned when he thought about Sofia handling that sword. He'd meant what he said, no self respecting dragon would ever let their fangs be taken by such a disreputable person. Though they had been on opposite sides, Drum had enough respect for Demios to know he would take such a gesture seriously. That left only a handful of ways for Sofia to have obtained those fangs, none of which did anything to calm his nerves.

"Pretty hardcore way to show someone you care," Gao's voice mercifully brought Drum back to his senses, and he nodded absentmindedly.

"It's pretty romantic if you think about it," Axia's response was to be expected, but his voice held less energy than he'd expected.

Drum's eyed his fellow dragon, and noticed how tense he was; the dragowizard was practically crushing his staff in his hand, keeping it out of sight from the others. The anger Axia had displayed back at the tavern when Shosetsu first told them about the goings on of the royal court - righteous rage at something so pure being twisted and mangled from its original intent - was being carefully restrained. Drum could tell he was holding back a yell at the injustice of it,

Once more, he was struck by how wrong it felt to see Axia look so frustrated. His arm moved before his mind caught up, and he placed a hand over Axia's, squeezing softly. That brought a more open reaction, and Axia's surprised eyes looked at Drum's. Truthfully, Drum wasn't sure what he was doing, so he focus on Axia's eyes, seeing the need in them to tell him that the world could make sense again. That despite such cruel people existing, there could still be a chance for true feelings to blossom.

Drum knew he could never put into words what he felt, so he strengthened his gaze and gave a small nod.

He felt Axia's grip slacken just a bit, the worry in those eyes diminishing. Axia nodded back and smiled softly, turning back to the conversation.

It was an odd but pleasant energy that filled the room, with comrades lightly poking fun at Lancelot and Drum, as if they hadn't gone through a death match with each other. But after a while, it soon became clear that the fairy royalty was running late, and without them, so would dinner. With no way to accurately predict their arrival, Drum took to lethargically draping himself over any piece of sitting furniture he could fit on, bemoaning his never-ending wait for sustenance. Axia followed suit, partially as an excuse to stick close to Drum, and partially because he felt the same.

Gao was no different, being used to a mostly constant food schedule. After hearing of Tasuku's recovery, the boy no longer had a cloud of anxiety over him. This also meant that there was nothing to distract his mind from the protests of his stomach. Even Shosetsu was starting to feel the hunger pangs intensify. The young knight had gone through his own share of training - his early days at Sengoku forcing him to adapt to a slightly turbulent eating schedule - but even he had his limits.

The two humans perked their heads as they saw a squire run past the hallway and towards the king's room. Too often had they seen a similar squire run to deliver an important message to Camelot Castle's ruler, none of which involved any news about the other king's arrival. They were just as ready for the squire's steps to fade into the spacious corridor, when the steps doubled back and ran into their small sitting room.

"Knights of the Round Table and distinguished guests," he proclaimed. "Announcing the arrival of the King and Queen of the Fairy Folk, Lord Oberon and Lady Titania!"

"Alright!" cheered Drum, involuntarily hugging Axia to him. "Now we can eat!"

"Stay your enthusiasm, friend. I believe we have some business to discuss with him first," remarked Arthur, looking just a little too pleased with himself as he watched Drum's expression drop, his groaning stomach making up for his speechlessness. "Forgive me, even I cannot live without levity."

The group returned to the front gate, the assembled knights standing at attention. Two figures strode down the hallway, their gaze fixed solely on Arthur. One was clad in a flowing robe, purple hues seeming to dance alongside teal accents, while the other's golden garb danced in the low light of the torches. Both outfits hugged their wearers' physique, though it was still hard to tell who was who. Even their hair seemed to cascade down well past their shoulders, somehow avoiding the large, ethereal wings that shone behind them.

"Lord Oberon", greeted Arthur, stepping up to the one in purple. "It is a pleasure to see you again."

"It is a welcome experience to be greeted by comrades," Oberon replied, his deep voice contrasting his svelte figure. "And it has been quite a while since we've last conversed. Please, allow me to introduce my wife, Lady Titania."

Titania stepped forward, her voice as light and airy. "The pleasure is mine, dear King." She held up a hand, and Arthur kissed it respectfully.

"As well," Oberon continued, "my attendants for this event. Fairy Knight, Diaone Shee." He turned his body, showing two other fairies behind him. Both wore armor reminiscent of Arthur's knights, with wings similar to their king's fanning behind them. "Do not mistake their pair, for they are one and the same. They are to be treated as my retainers during my stay and to stay at my side should I have need of them."

"If they have your word, they are welcome wherever you go," came Arthur's practiced response. "With that said, we should adjourn to my throne room. There are important matters in need of discussion."

Oberon nodded and walked alongside Arthur, Titania following in his footsteps. The royals paid no mind to the humans or dragons who started following along hesitantly, the small group stilled into silence by the fairies' presence. The twin knights' glares didn't help the mood, and it was with great relief that they arrived in the throne room, the warmer architecture seeming to dissipate the moody aura.

"Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, kindly tell us the problem you have with one of our children," began Oberon, still only addressing Arthur.

"Children?" Drum whispered to Gao.

His Buddy shrugged, but Shosetsu replied softly. "All fairies are considered to be Oberon's children. It's how he refers to those in his rule."

"It is about Morganna - Morgan La Fey, as you know her," answered Arthur.

"Ahh, yes, the wayward girl who had taken an interest in other World's magic. I had wondered what had become of her."

"No doubt causing you no small amount of grief," Titania said playfully. "Not even my Lord could sufficiently temper her spirit. I apologize for any harm she may have caused."

The deep breath that Arthur had to take spoke volumes. "She has been a thorn in our sides for a while, but that's not what this is about. Not too long ago, she was reported to have been kidnapped while on Earth."

That got the Fairies' eyes to widen. "Kidnapped?" Oberon parroted incredulously. "Surely you jest. Morgan Le Fay was many things, but easy to subdue was never one of them."

"I would have been just as doubtful had it not been for the eye witness accounts of these two."

Arthur gestured to Gao and Drum, and the pair suddenly felt very small in front of the Fairy King

"And who are these two?" Oberon asked, his voice seeming sterner than before. "A dragon and a human?" His gaze shifted to Axia and Shosetsu. "Nay, two of each. And allowed within your hallowed sanctum, no less. What have you been doing, Arthur?"

"Hold you ire, friend. Shosetsu is a recognized knight, he carries the Immortal Sword Durandal and has been acknowledged by Excalibur for his merits. The other is Gao Mikado, the one who took down Yamigedo, along with his Buddy, Drum Bunker Dragon. The last is Qinus Axia, an accomplished wizard who helped us prior and is now training alongside us."

Hearing Arthur's explanation, Oberon's gaze softened slightly, looking more contemplative than before.

"So I see. Then they've more than earned their place among us." His eyes went to Drum. "Armordragon, Arthur said your name was Drum Bunker Dagon correct?"

Drum nodded his head stiffly. "Uuhh, yeah, that's right."

"I take it to mean that your father is Fang Slade Terrestrial…" he paused briefly, tapping his finger to his chin in rhythm. "XIII, correct?" Another nod. "I see, that's quite the surprise. That young upstart has forged a veritable lineage for himself."

"I told you he had potential," Titania said playfully. "And it seems that its been passed down to his offspring. It's not everyday one can say they've gone up against Yamigedo and lived to tell the tale."

"Wait, back up! You two knew my father?" Drum asked in disbelief.

"Indeed we do," Titania answered. "Though he is an aged veteran of many wars, he is but the thirteenth in a line as old as we can remember." She grinned playfully. "Suffice to say, we have seniority."

"Alliot said that Dad was over a thousand years old…" Drum murmured. "I mean, I always knew he was old, but…"

"We knew him when he was no older than you," Titania continued, smiling fondly at the memory. "He was quite the rambunctious one, creating such a scene whenever his own father brought him along on diplomatic trips."

"Yes, he also had quite a bit of gall to him," Oberon said, though his tone was much less fond. "Declaring that he'd be the greatest chief Dragon World had ever known."

"My dad? Rambunctious?" Drum could hardly manage to hide his stupefied look. The very notion that his strict yet goofy dad could be anything close to rebellious in front of royalty boggled his mind.

"Quite so," Titania answered. "A precocious dragon with the will and strength to back up his claims. I see some of him in you. You'd make a good leader."

"Guess the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree, huh?" teased Gao.

"It's like looking into a mirror to the past!" laughed Axia.

"Jeeze, c'mon guys…" grumbled Drum. "We've got more important things to do than… this…"

"The young dragon has a point," Oberon spoke. "Much as it amuses us to reminisce on the lineage of clan leaders, Morgan Le Fay's abduction takes top priority."

"My Lord is right," continued Titania. "Do you have any suspects who could've perpetrated this act?"

"We do, in fact," Arthur said. "Drum and Gao claim that it was a human girl named Muichi who abducted Morganna. We were hoping you had some knowledge on her."

"'Muichi'?" Titania parroted. "I can't say that name rings a bell. My Lord, are you familiar with such a girl?"

Oberon shook his head, his brow furrowed. "I am not. A very curious matter indeed, that someone from outside the realm would take such an action. Even if she is a wayward soul, all should know that abducting any of my children would result in a quick smiting."

"Of course, knowing Morgan's habits, it's not out of the realm of possibility that it is one who was played for a fool," said Titania. "You remember full well the amount of tomfoolery she had gotten up to, even under our guidance."

Oberon smirked at the thought. "Perhaps. Whatever act she committed must have been quite heinous to warrant such retaliation."

"I'll say," Drum cut in. "Muichi leveled several city blocks fighting one of our friends. That girl has no chill."

"Ahh, so we're dealing with a monster in disguise then?" mused Oberon.

"We're not really sure," answered Gao. "That's why we wanted to ask for your help, anything you could tell us about Morganna or her past could help."

"I will relate what I know, but as far as I can recall, there isn't anyone I know of who matches your description. Of course, my kingdom is vast; there are many of my subjects who might hold a grudge, or who might've conscripted an unsuspecting human to aid them. It will take some time, but I'm sure I can ferret out some clue that will be of use to you."

"I shall leave it in your hands," Arthur said. "For now, I would invite you to dine with us. Traveling on such short notice is no easy feat, and I would be a poor host if I didn't offer you some hospitality."

"I will admit, I am rather peckish," Titania said. "What say you, My Lord?"

"If my queen wishes it, we shall accept your invitation," declared Oberon. "You have our gratitude."

"Wonderful. Shosetsu, Axia, if you would be so kind as to show our friends to the great hall."

It was hard to miss the dragons both grin giddily at their long awaited feast, but the fairies kept any response to themselves as they were led out of the throne room.

"Oh, before I forget, Arthur," Titania rounded back just as her husband walked through the door, shutting it quietly. She held out an envelope to the perplexed king. "Lady Guinevere has written you. Fate may have had a small part in our meeting. We had been planning a visit not too long ago. There is still much to resolve."

Arthur's eyes widened at the name, his voice trembling as his stoic mask crumbled. "G-Guinevere wrote?" he asked shakily. "When? Why?"

"I'm afraid I'm not at liberty to say," she responded. "But know that she is willing to receive communications with you. Should you have your own letters, I will be glad to pass them along when we depart."

"T-thank you," Arthur breathed, barely managing to hide his smile.

"Of course, old friend. I know you would do the same. Not to mention one of our realm was the cause of this. I would be remiss if I couldn't keep my subjects in line," she turned her head to the door, her tone loosing some of its playfulness. "I shall count it as a moment of grief that you hadn't thought to do likewise with your own. It's not polite to eavesdrop. Most unfitting for a knight." Her voice turned sharp. "Or a king."

Several figures emerged from behind the doorway; human, dragon and fae alike looked down at the floor in equal admonishment, though everyone, save Titania, spared a shocked look at Oberon. The fairy king looked sufficiently admonished by his wife's tone alone.

"We were just worried," Gao spoke up once he regained his composure.

"You mentioned that name when we fought Sofia…" added Drum. "Is she okay?"

"If there is something that troubles you, please allow me to help," Oberon spoke, though his words were addressed to Titania.

"Your concerns are noted, but this is a matter of the heart. My dear King, we are doing as much as we possibly can. The only thing I would ask of you is to continue to bear with our houseguest a while longer."

Oberon looked like he wanted to ask more, but a scathing look from Titania cowed him. "Very well. If that is what you desire, I shall continue to see it through."

With that, the group once more started to the dining hall. Still, Drum's curiosity got the better of him.

"You guys are hosting his queen?"

He was legitimately surprised when Oberon looked at him to respond. "The two had a falling out after Lancelot betrayed their realm. Morganna had planted seeds of doubt, saying that Guinevere was assisting the rogue knight. She used fairy magic to show him his worst fear, while the real Guinevere tried her best to stop Lancelot. Sadly, harsh words and even harsher scoldings were exchanged ere the event was over, and by the time cool minds had prevailed, twas too late for them to properly reconcile. In the end, Guinevere asked to stay in our realm until the truth came to light."

"I hope they can make up soon," Axia murmured sadly. "The rumors of what happened have been terrible to hear."

"This isn't the first time they have sprung up, nor will it be the last," Titania said. "A few whispered words will not sway Guinevere's mind. Plus, now that Lancelot is back in the fold, it will give her a chance to have some… what do you mortals call it? Closure?"

"Indeed, and we shall do our part to see it happen," proclaimed Oberon. "For now, let us put those troubles away and enjoy a feast of new beginnings!"

"I'm down for that!" laughed Drum as he jogged on ahead to lead the group.

Axia followed shortly behind him. "That went better than expected if your stomach is settled."

Drum blinked and almost missed a step. In all the commotion, he had truly forgotten about his stomachache. Of course, in its absence, its hunger made itself known, and he smiled sheepishly as it let out another growl.

"Being hungry is better than feeling nauseous, but let's hurry so I don't have to worry about being either!"

"You just want to have your cake and eat it too," teased Axia.

"Wait, there's cake!?" Drum exclaimed, his hunger palpable.

"Never change, Drum-kins."

Makoto raised a hand to block out the sun from his eyes. The hospital Kemura had been transferred to was near a busier section of the city, a lower priority center strictly for patients in recovery. Sadly, it was also inconveniently close to where the disturbance earlier had taken place. It was almost impossible to avoid news of it; the incident had been broadcast on every news channel, and had been trending on social media for hours. There were no casualties, and the bulk of the destruction took place in an abandoned area of the city, so most of the discussion was about who or what had caused it. There had been mentions that Gao Mikado had chased whatever it was away, and that one of the nearby children saw Tasuku Ryuenji in combat it.

Makoto snorted at the thought. No matter the situation, the Boy Wonder Cop would always charge headfirst into action. Not that it did them any good in capturing the culprit. Not a single bit of news described what happened afterwards - no arrests, no suspects, nothing! It was all statistics about property damage, all of which flew over the boy's head. It was hard enough moving through the swarm of people crowding the sidewalk with a clear mind, and he shook his head of those errant thoughts.

What I wouldn't give to use a Buddyskill, he groaned to himself. Not that she would let me use it for a 'jaunt' like this.

Too short a trip to 'abuse' the power of flight, she said. As if she was doing any of the walking. And if his Buddy's fickle ways weren't enough, the police had the surrounding area quartered off and listed as a no-fly zone. No flight, no Buddyskill. The result was Makoto arriving at the hospital closer to dinner than he'd like, and he stumbled into the, mercifully empty, waiting room.

"I'm here to pick up Kemura," he said to the receptionist, an older woman with pink hair. "He was said to be discharged today."

"I'm sorry, but the doctor who was scheduled to perform the final checkups has been delayed," the woman broke her composure, heaving a weary sigh. "Quite honestly, most of the doctors and nurses have been held up. That explosion from earlier knocked out the power grid for the streetlights, so we're just left with a skeleton crew. I can't discharge anyone at all."

"Would it be okay if I just see him?" asked Makoto. "It's been a long trip, and I'd like to make sure he's alright."

"He has been cleared for visitors," the receptionist hummed to herself, her eyes scanning the screen briefly. "So long as he stays in bed, I can allow it. Just sign this paperwork so I know you're visiting."

"Thank you," Makoto said, taking the clipboard the nurse handed. He was just sitting down when another kid ran through the door, halting at the reception desk.

"Hiya, Mrs. Schaeffer," came an all too familiar voice. "I'm here to see Kem-kem!"

Kem-kem? Makoto whipped his head up at the nickname, and he spotted an orange haired girl practically bouncing on her feet. "Kazane?"

Kazane swiveled on her heel, practically beaming once she recognized him. "Makoto!"

It was no surprise she remembered his name. The girl was no stranger to any Sengoku student; if you hadn't seen her performance in the fight against Aibou, she made herself a somewhat recurring presence to the school in her free time, challenging any student who would accept. He'd only had a couple of matches against her - leaving them tied at one win apiece - but it was more than enough for her to consider him a close friend.

"Fancy seeing you here, Kazane," the boy set his clipboard aside. "Didn't know you were paying Kemura a visit."

"I'm paying everybody a visit!" Kazane replied. "Just about everybody had to stay in the hospital for a little while, so I've been trying to lighten up their spirits!"

"I can see how that'd work for Kemura, but I don't think someone like Genma would be receptive to it."

"You'd be surprised. At least one of the Seifukai are here during visiting hours, and he's always had a smile whenever they're around." Kazane smiled at the memory. "Honestly, it was one of my other friends who was a major grump. Poor ole Kitten-shirt didn't even perk up at my specialized gift basket."

Kitten-shirt? Makoto smirked at the nickname. "I'm sure there's a perfectly valid reason Kitten-shirt was down in the dumps. Hospitals don't usually agree with some people."

"All the more reason to give them something else to think about," Kazane reasoned. "I'm hoping they don't have to hold Kem-kem for much longer. He's the last one in recovery."

"Well, good news and bad news on that front," Makoto huffed and explained the situation.

"Darn, that bites," Kazane grunted. "But they're still accepting visitors, right?"

"So long as we don't try to hatch a daring and cliche escape attempt, we should be fine," chuckled Makoto. "Ask the receptionist for a form, I'll wait for you to catch up."

It showed how often Kazane had visited when, before she could even ask, the nurse gave her an extra clipboard. Makoto was surprised at the comfortable silence they shared, filled only by the sound of their pens on the clipboard, and soon the two headed to the elevators.

Camelot Castle's great hall was enormous, twice as large as the throne room in width alone. The two long tables - set up for dozens of people, each decorated with a golden tablecloth, with plates and cutlery neatly placed accordingly - fit comfortably, with plenty of room to walk around. Past that, a large dais faced the width of the room and held the high table that was set for the king and any guests to dine, already decorated with candelabras.

If the sight of the throne room left them speechless, then this room nearly knocked both Gao and Drum out. For Gao, it was like looking into one of his history books. Castles had existed on Earth for centuries, but even now they began to show age, stone foundations fading or eroding due to the often turbulent climates of their locations. The sight of a vibrant, active castle continued to surprise him.

Drum's silence was born from amazement. Though he'd deny it out of pride, the hall made his own world's ruined castles look inadequate. Not that dragons that stayed in Dragon World had really concerned themselves with style, theirs was designed for practicality and the inevitable result of packing far too many dragons in a crowded room and setting enough spirits in front of them to topple any living creature. More than once had a victory celebration ended in the entire clan blasting fire into the heavens in a drunken stupor.

He idly wondered if the castle's roof had any enchantments on it.

"I take it this is your first time seeing such grandeur?" Titania teased, shocking the pair from their stupor. "We should invite you to our domain sometime. The view there is quite spectacular as well."

"That'd be really appreciated, thanks," Gao managed, chuckling at his own absentmindedness.

"Something to look forward to," the fairy queen continued. "Come along now. Guests of our stature are allowed seats by the king himself." She let out one last titter before making her way to Arthur's table, the fairy knight silently following.

Before they could join the fairies, they spotted Cait Sith's cadre of cats headed their way. Funnily enough, they were being escorted by Lancelot, the multitudes of felines surrounding his feet, save for the Cait Sith they knew, who was perched on the knight's shoulder.

"Cait Sith!" Gao waved at the clan. "Hey, you guys joining us for dinner?"

"You bet, meow!" The feline meowed and leapt off Lancelot' shoulder, landing in front of Gao. "King Arthur extended his hospitality to us as well. Besides, it's not good to travel on an empty stomach."

The rest of his clan all meowed in agreement and Gao could only laugh at that, practically feeling his Buddy's smug smirk that said 'I told ya so'.

"C'mon Lancelot, we'll get a spot in next to Gao and-"

"That's not a good idea," Lancelot cut in, his voice tight.

"Why not?"

"It would be… improper. Gao will be close to the king's side. Being the representative of your group, you would have the right to sit at the same table, but I have only just been reinstated into the knights. I hardly think I'd be welcome with open arms."

"Well, that's just dumb! Tell ya what, meow!" He licked his paw and jumped up high, bopping Lancelot's chest plate and leaving a light imprint of his paw. "There, now you're an official member of the Cait Sith clan! And I won't let anybody bad mouth my friend."

"That's sweet of you. Still, my place is here. But I would be honored if you would let me sit with your clan.

"As if that was up for debate, meow! I'll do you one better and have you be our liaison to your fiends. It pays to be sociable," The cat said, loud enough to be heard by the knights who had started to take their seats. "I'm sure the honorable Knights of the Round table would not object to the Cait Sith clan's guest sitting with them?"

The small feline's tone made it apparent what he was driving at. Sure enough, one knight, with flowing gold locks, began to sit up. "You've got some nerve-" Another, brunette and wearing a green sash around his body, stood up as well, cutting the man off. His eyes stared at Lancelot with a purpose, and the others fell silent as he faced Lancelot.

"It's been a while, father," he said at last.

Father!? the same thought passed through Gao and Drum's mind, and they looked to their friends for insight, but both Shosetsu and Axia's faces were set in a small grimace, making it all too clear what they thought.

"Galahad…" Lancelot murmured,

"It would be rude of us to refuse such a simple request from a guest. And even ruder of a son to not hold out an olive branch," the knight looked so much like a boy in that instance, looking up at his father with sorrowful eyes. "I can't forgive the atrocious acts you've done, nor do I think myself capable of trusting you as I did before. Even still, a part of me wants to try, if only to know that I did my absolute best in mending this rift."

"I do not deserve your kindness… but if you are willing to reach out, I would be a fool not to reciprocate. Even if we not have the same rapport as we had, I will take this ambivalence over cold ignorance."

Gancelot nodded, fidgeting slightly when the silence continued on. "I've… heard training with your restored sword is proceeding well," he offered weakly.

"You bet it is! You should see him in action!" one of the Cait Sith piped up. "He's got that new sword down to a science!"

The travelers lingered, watching the cat monsters take over the conversation. Several pairs of eyes still held animosity in them, but none of the other knights moved to force Lancelot out. Some even joined in on the banter, poking fun at old altercations from friendlier times, and the group quietly walked to their own table.

"I can't believe how well you handled that," Gao remarked, turning to Cait Sith. "You really turned that situation around."

"Well, of course! I learned it from you and Drum after all!" the small monster practically purred with excitement. "You inspire people to stand up for themselves, and it's been giving me courage to do what I can, meow!"

"Gao has that effect on everyone he meets," Drum bragged as they filed into their seats. "Give yourself a day with him and you're thinking on what you can do to better yourself."

"And that rubbed off on you, Drum-kins" Axia chirped happily.

Gao chuckled at the dragons, finding himself sitting on Arthur's left side, with Shosetsu in-between himself and the king. Drum was on his right, followed by Axia and then Cait Sith. Meanwhile, Oberon was on the king's right side - which had to mean something regarding status, Gao was sure - with Titania by his side and the twin knights, Diaone Shee, by hers.

From his perch, he saw the other tables fill out slowly with different monsters. Some he remembered from the card art he saw during his training sessions with Baku and Kuguru, while others were completely new to him. One such monster approached from what he assumed was the kitchen, and rang a small dinner bell.

"Gathered friends," Arthur proclaimed. "It brings me great my pleasure to welcome you all to this grand feast. Though belated, it is to celebrate a momentous occasion. We are here to honor our guests, who successfully vanquished a wicked foe and returned on of our own to the fold. I dedicate this feast in the honor of those recognized by my kingdom and its people: Drum Bunker Dragon, Dragowizard Qinus Axia and Shosetsu Kirisame. Let this banquet be a testament of our gratitude!"

Drum's howl of excitement could be heard even in the deepest forest. Not that it wasn't unwarranted; several dozen servants came pouring from hallways neither traveler had seen, each carrying one or two plates featuring meats and veggies of all kinds. Some were simple, being a single large turkey or ham that was placed in the measured intervals on the tables for anyone to partake. Others were more customized, placed directly in front of certain guests alongside the main courses. A small plate of takoyaki was set by his and his Buddy's plate, leaving Gao to wonder if Axia or Shosetsu had already told Arthur of their tastes.

A small saucer of water was placed near the guests, "For washing your hands," Shosetsu had informed them before Drum could take a sip. Proper water and other drinks were then distributed, all in golden goblets that matched the cutlery.

"Now, my friends! Eat, drink and be merry! For this future we have strived for!" Arthur raised his cup, and the room followed suite. With a loud cheer, the entire hall dug into their meals, becoming wrapped in the merriment of the room.

"Dinner is served!" Kazane cheered as she brought out three bento boxes, handing them to her friends.

The visit had been a welcome distraction for Kemura; the boy had been wallowing in sadness after receiving the news that he wouldn't be discharged when they arrived. Luckily, Kazane seemed to be an expert at banishing bad feelings. It was almost impossible not to smile whenever she started talking about anything, even if it was mundane activities. It almost made Makoto wonder if he was even needed.

Still, he couldn't help the swell of pride he felt seeing Kemura's eyes light up when he told him about his fight with Kanehebi. The fact that any of the Demon Generals would invoke Sengoku's tradition truly warmed the boy's heart, showing how far his relationship with his fellow classmates had come.

Eventually, the sun had started to set, artificial lights automatically turning on to prevent the room from being consumed by darkness. Makoto had been keeping an eye on the clock, getting ready for the inevitable knock telling him that visiting hours were over. The lights were his usual signal that his time was about to run out, yet there was no sign of any personnel coming to check up on them.

"I'm surprised they're letting us stay so late," Makoto murmured between bites of his food. How she knew he adored shrimp tempura when it never came up in conversation was anybody's guess, but he knew not to question a good thing. "Someone must've put in a good word to the receptionist."

He eyed Kazane, smirking broadly and thinking he had her figured out, but she only offered a shrug.

"I wouldn't say that. She said she was homesick, so I got her some croissants while I was out shopping. There's a small international store close to where I was buying things for the gift baskets, so I got some things for her so she wouldn't feel left out."

"Why croissants?"

"She's from France, of course! She's out here all on her own, I couldn't not offer her something!"

Kemura was smiling at the gesture, while Makoto was left flummoxed. Truthfully, he didn't know if he'd go that far for a stranger. That thought stayed in his mind longer than he would've liked it to.

"You really mean that," it was more a statement than a question, but the disbelief was audible in Makoto's voice. "You just wanted her to have a good day."

"I don't like seeing people sad," Kazane said, looking shockingly somber. "So many terrible things have happened recently, so I want to put a little good back in the world."

Makoto felt like a heel, seeing the bubbly Kazane resemble a kicked puppy. The world didn't deserve her kindness, he knew that for a fact. But if she wanted to continue giving it, who was he to question her reasoning?

"Sorry," he said, "I didn't mean to upset you. It's really admirable that you're doing this, I know I couldn't."

Kazan's expression lifted into a small smile. "You never know until you try."

"Maybe," Makoto replied, briefly wondering why that phrase sounded familiar before turning to a more glaring topic. "Hey, Kemura, where's Sylph? She usually starts yelling at us to have more self confidence about now."

"Kemura have to send her back to Sengoku, kem," he replied. "Doctors say she too loud, so Kemura let Raremaro take care of her."

"'Loud', huh? That's one way to describe her," Makoto chuckled easily. Abrasive would be more accurate. "If we promise to be quiet, think maybe we could spend the night?"

He hadn't meant to say it out loud, but both Kemura and Kazane were already deep in thought taking his suggestions seriously. Watching the two converse, with Kazane pondering what blankets they would need and Kemura recommending an area that wouldn't be covered in sunlight come morning, had his mind and heart feeling lighter than they had in ages.

The party was slow to wind down. Although most of the guests had finished their meals quickly, they milled about and chattered to one another about various happenings in their respective territories. Predictably, Drum was already on his third helping, having loaded his plate with anything and everything within reach, and had done likewise for his next servings. This had the added bonus (for Drum, anyway) of the servers sending any leftover food to the draconic garbage disposal, much to his delight.

At some point, Gao had fallen silent. The boy was clearly finished with his food, but made no motion to start any conversation. He answered any question thrown at him, which tended to be about his vanquishing of Yamigedo, but the bulk of the time was spent listening to Drum and Axia go over the exciting parts of their accomplishment.

That was one part Drum had never shied away from whenever he told his abridged version. The red dragon always relished in showing off his accomplishments, and the crowd ate it up. This was very much the stuff of legends, and it showed in the guests' rapt attention as Drum pantomimed a slash. Axia threw in his own commentary at certain points, and soon Shosetsu joined in, adding his own perspective.

An odd feeling passed through Gao, one of longing that made his stomach feel hallow despite the filling food he'd only just eaten. Faintly, he compared it to how he felt when he'd ostracized himself back when he took Aiki Jujitsu too seriously. He had wanted to be a part of that adventure, as well. Because wasn't he supposed to be Drum's Buddy? If Drum could team up with others so easily, did he really need him as a Buddy anymore? Where would that leave him when Drum decided to leave?

The thought stayed with Gao throughout dinner.

Eventually, the crowd lost their energy and retired to their own tables or their quarters. Seeing no one else come for a retelling of his fable, Drum began eating again, claiming his reenacting had left him starving. Some things never really would change.

"Hey, Drum," said Gao. "I'm gonna take a walk. Think you'll be okay while I'm gone?"

Drum, still gorging himself on the massive ham on the center of the table, nodded his acknowledgement.

"He'll be a while," Axia said. "I'll make sure he finds you if anything happens."

"You sure you won't be bothered?"

"Of course not. I've got Drum-kins with me after all. And… " He unceremoniously picked up Cait SIth again, scratching right behind his ears and turning the feline into a purring fluff ball. "I've got this little cutie to help pass the time, yes I do~"

"…notta cat…" Cait Sith groaned out, looking far more content than he let on.

Gao spared a chuckle at his feline friend's plight before addressing Arthur. "Thank you very much for the food," he said with a bow. "You mind if I excuse myself? I think I need some air."

"Feel free to, my castle is yours to explore," Arthur said jovially.

Nodding once more in thanks, Gao walked out from behind the table.

"That boy seems to be carrying a great burden," Oberon said quietly. "This interloper must truly have wronged him."

Shosetsu didn't hear Arthur's answer, his eyes were too busy following Gao. It was incredibly unusual to se the Sun Fighter look anything but optimistic, so he waited until he went down a hallway before standing. "If you'll excuse me," he nodded to the remaining members and headed off. Drum shrugged and continued eating, while Oberon hummed in approval.

It didn't take long to find Gao, Shosetsu had memorized the layout of the castle, and soon saw the younger boy resting his arms on a balcony, looking forlornly at the night sky. The look was utterly alien on him, and it unnerved Shosetsu to see him so deep in thought.

"Is there something wrong Gao?" he asked. "You don't seem like yourself."

"It's nothing," Gao said, shaking his head. "Just had a few things on my mind, that's all."

Shosetsu frowned worriedly. "Gao I'd like to consider us friends. I owe both you and Drum a great debt, neither of which I feel like i'll be able to fully repay. If there's anything you need to talk about, I'd be happy to listen."

Gao considered. "Well, you've noticed how close Drum and Axia are getting, right?"

He smirked. "I have seen, yes. They've been rather brazen about that as of late. Why?"

"Axia never had any problems showing how he felt, but Drum was never really into it. Now… They work pretty well together. I know I said they'd get along, but I didn't know how much." Gao was quiet for a long moment. "Do you think they'd make a better team than he and I do?"

"'A better team'?" Shosetsu parroted. "Where did this come from? You're usually never so down on yourself."

"Yeah… I don't know. I've just been wondering what I should be doing. Drum's already come so far, learning how to be an Omni Lord and everything. Meanwhile all I've found out is that I still had a hero complex about my brother…"

"Your brother? I didn't know you had a brother."

"He…" Gao stuttered, then took a breath. "Right, you wouldn't know. He's the one who inspired me to take on the mantle of the Mighty Sun Fighter. He wrote a ton of manga about him and left them to me when he… passed on."

"I'm sorry," offered Shosetsu.

"It's fine, I've…" he hesitated and looked out at the open expanse of Legend World. "Well, I thought I'd gotten over it. Truth is, when I lost against Yamigedo the first time, I just wanted my brother to save me. Later, I ended up just wanting to be saved. I forgot that the Sun Fighter isn't meant to be a hero to others, but an ideal to strive for, so everyone can grow stronger. Drum never had that problem, he always knew who he was at the end of the day."

"You shouldn't compare your progress so strictly. Drum has had to come along way in order to be where he is now. It might not be obvious, but he's a very different dragon than when he started. I'm sure he's had to face some hard truths of his own. Comparatively, you're pretty well adjusted, from what I've seen. Even with that, losing in a high-stakes game would rattle even a well seasoned fighter. You've grown from the experience, and i'm sure there'll be plenty more opportunities."

"But I don't… I don't think I can. Not like this," Gao shook his head, letting out another sigh before continuing. "Our fights against Bolt are showing me we might've reached a road block… but there's more than that. He's trying to spend more time with Axia, I'm starting to feel like a third wheel…

"You could put Axia back in your deck," Shosetsu suggested. "He's already proven he can change worlds like Drum can."

"That'd make me feel even guiltier. We don't have that many spare rooms in our house, and I get the distinct feeling they want some private time, ya know?"

An image of the two dragons waking up, sharing a quiet and intimate moment in the forest had Shosetsu clearing his throat poignantly. "Yes… yes I do…"

Gao looked at the suddenly flustered swordsman oddly for a moment, before finishing his thought.

"There's one other thing… Back when I was training with Tasuku, Drum's dad told me something. He said the time when Drum would inherit the Bunker clan's mantle of leader was drawing closer. I wasn't sure at the time, but after what's happened so far, I'm starting to see it. Drum's already proven to be able to handle being an Omni Lord. What else do you need to lead a clan?"

"Is that what's been bothering you?" Shosetsu asked for clarification. "You think he'll leave you to be the leader of the Bunker clan?"

"A little. I think it's already started. His dad said Drum's instincts will lead him to someone that he trusts to lead by his side."

"And you believe that it's Axia?"

Gao snorted. "I mean, I sorta always knew. I just don't know what to do now that it's actually happening. I don't want him to stop being my Buddy, but I also don't want to keep him from his dream…"

"That decision lies with Drum, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. I know he wouldn't forget to take your feelings into account. Besides, he did promise to win 100 times against Bolt with you. A dragon's word is his vow, after all."

As if he could forget that. If Drum hadn't told him before, the proclamation he made at dinner, when Drum bragged about training with Yamigedo and his Buddy to become even stronger, was enough to reassure Gao of his dedication.

"And… what happens when we do hit 100 wins?" the boy asked.

"I can't speak on his behalf, but I can promise you he wouldn't dream of abandoning you," the words got a flinch from Gao, much as he tried to hide it. "Drum might have to leave someday, but there's nothing saying he'll be gone forever. I'm sure if you ask, he'll gladly visit you. Your bond with him is stronger than you give it credit. There's no need to think of that future, especially if it prevents you from seeing the present."

"The present…" Gao repeated, a small smile coming to his face. "I guess I sorta lost track of where I was. With everything that's happened, I guess I thought that Drum would be raring to go in about a month. That's not how Drum is, and definitely not with anyone he cares about." He turned around, his smile looking more genuine. "Thanks Shosetsu. I owe you one."

"You've done more than enough for me. I'm happy to provide you some comfort with this." He turned to the horizon, seeing the crescent moon high in the sky. "They're my friends too, I don't want to see them leave any more than you do."

Thick clouds covered whatever moonlight reached the castle, leaving the interior a near pitch black.

This was a fact that never bothered Gratos before, but with the absence of his fellow knights, the darkness seemed all encompassing. Not helped by the lack of any discernible landmarks whenever he looked out a window, only dark clouds and even darker horizons greeted him. Such was the natural weather of Darkness Dragon World, but that didn't help ease his frustrations.

He took to wondering the halls in hopes of dispelling his restlessness, much like he'd seen Muichi do. The girl sadly lacked his night vision, and had taken to mentally memorizing the castle's layout, an arduous task even with proper illumination. So it was from memory that he found himself wandering into what he referred to as the main antechamber. The sword that started it all was embedded in a pedestal in the middle of the room, a large throne creating a fitting backdrop.

"Gratos," the sword almost flickered with unnatural energy. "It has been so long since I've seen you do… much of anything really!"

The voice paused to let the skeletal knight speak, yet Gratos could find no words in him.

"Why have you yet to speak?" The voice began again. "You once served as heralds for destruction, I had thought coming back would leave you chomping at the bit."

Gratos stood for a moment before raising his head to stare at the sword's hilt. "Why did you revive us?" he asked simply. "For what purpose…?"

"Bold of you to assume that I was the one to revive you," the voice chuckled. "In truth, you were a nice bonus. When it came time to salvaging that desolated city, you four were tethered to the ambient energy. So, instead of snapping you off to leave you flittering in an endless abyss, I thought it best to use your strength for my future endeavors. It will take everything we have for our plan to move forward."

"So, that's all we are to you?" There was no fury in his voice. Simply resignation. "Convenient work labor?"

The voice surprised him with a high pitched giggle that echoed in the empty chamber. "Not at all, my dear Gratos. Not at all. Your troupe's presence makes this place so much more bearable. And despite your subordinates' squabbles with Muichi, I know she will come to enjoy the extra company as well."

"You…think that we're…fun?" The thought of the malevolent presence hidden within that cursed sword even knowing what fun was baffled Gratos. Of course, he mused to himself. That would also depend on her definition of 'fun'.

"Entertaining, fun, whatever you want to call it," the voice continued, uncaring of his concerns. "After being stuck in solitude for so long, I do treasure these moments of levity."

"So, where does this leave us when you're done with us?"

"Why, with us! As generals of my new army! With you as the supreme commander."

The idea of leading a grand army tickled Gratos but… "Voremos wouldn't follow my orders. Not after my blunders with that worm."

"So, defeat him in combat and reclaim your title," the voice answered, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Gratos was almost shocked at the lack of concern. "I don't think I could hold a sword against a comrade…"

"Not a sword," the sword shimmered, and a green energy radiated from it. "Then perhaps a deck…" On card materialized out of the vapor and floated to Gratos, shimmering in his grasp.

"Is that…me?" He almost couldn't believe it, the image of himself on the card was almost overwhelming.

"Work with me, Gratos. Great things are about to transpire. Muichi's forces should be ready in Legend World. Be sure you are as well…"

Once the king had excused himself, it was proper etiquette to leave as well. So said Oberon to a finally sated Drum, claiming that the dragon's father had been the same way in his youth. It was more than enough motivation for Drum take his leave, with Axia walking besides him, Cait Sith still in his nimble claws.

Sadly, his monopoly on the feline was interrupted by the monster's retinue, his clan asking for their leader back so they could prepare to depart the following morning. Axia returned Cait Sith with great reluctancy, and not without a few last second pets, then focused on guiding Drum to the nearest empty room to rest.

"Man, I'm stuffed!" Drum exclaimed as he fell onto a sofa, rubbing the armor covering his stomach.

"I should hope so. You practically ate an entire banquet table's worth of food!" Axia remarked. "I don't know whether to be impressed or terrified!"

"Did Gao come back yet?" Drum asked lethargically.

"Not yet, but I saw Shosetsu go after him. He should be okay," Axia shook his head at the bigger dragon. "I'm more concerned about you, Drum-kins. I know you can pack it away, but was it really so wise to eat all that food at once?"

Drum waved his concern. "I've been running around all day: fighting, playing recon, traveling all the way to Sengoku and then out here on one bento box!" He huffed, a puff of smoke drifting from his snout. "Just let me sleep it off and I'll be back to normal."

"You're just going to sleep on the sofa?" asked Axia. Drum had closed his eyes, and nodded sleepily. "Alrighty then."

Drum grunted as he felt another body join him, and his golden eyes snapped open, widening when he saw Axia lay nearly on top of him.

"Wha- what are you-?" he couldn't get the words out, far too focused on how close Axia's snout was to his.

"I'm getting comfortable," explained Axia, looking far too happy with the arrangement. "I'll do the talking if one of the maids finds us, so you can concentrate on sleeping. Plus, this was I can give you a goodnight kiss!"

"What about the kids?" The words were out of Drum's mouth before they registered, and he paled as he realized how much like his father he just sounded like. It made it sound like they were worrying about kids of their own, and why didn't that thought elicit as much fear as he thought it would?

A similar thought process must've gone through Axia's mind judging from the look on his face, his eyes gazing at him warmly.

"Then we'll just do it the other way."

Other way? Drum gulped, wracking his brain to think of what possible context Axia meant. There were only so many ways you could even-

It hit him with the force of a sledgehammer, and he could feel his scales heat up. While he and Axia were more humanoid, dragons like Jackknife had more… feral traits. And with the difference in snout structure came differences in showing affection.

Axia moved his head close to Drum's, until the tips of their snouts touched. The action let them look each other in the eye, golden irises reflecting the artificial light of the room and creating deep pools that Drum was afraid might submerge him completely.

He didn't find himself minding that.

One of them blinked and the spell was broken, though the teal dragon still moved with a purpose. He pressed the side of his snout to Drum's, dragging it gently so that they rubbed together. Drum let out another huff and gingerly returned the action, the warmth in his chest nearly fit to burst as they shared a true dragonic kiss.

Axia was right, even if Gao or Shosetsu walked in on them, they wouldn't have any reason to think they were doing anything more than sharing Axia's usually brand of affection. They couldn't know the layer of intimacy hidden, that the action shared his scent with his partner to remind the pair of what they shared, a silent reminder that they were bonded.

Drum hadn't thought that far in advance, hadn't contemplated the deeper implications of his desires. No, he was always told to follow his instincts, that they would lead him to the right path. Right now, they told him this was right. Drum could feel himself start to drift off, and he leaned up just as Axia pulled back.

He had to grin at the small squeak Axia let out when he kissed him. A human kiss, like Axia preferred, to show him how much he appreciated his consideration.

It showed how tired Axia was that he only hummed into it before pulling back, and resting his head into the crook of the red dragon's neck. The position felt so natural to Drum, and he soon joined Axia in sweet slumber.

The mountains of Camelot surrounded a vast expanse of territory. So vast that not every patrol managed to cover every inch of rocky outcroppings. Several figures had gathered under one of the few ledges on the mountain, one of them bound in chains.

"I don't see why we have to wait for morning…" Muichi muttered into the darkness.

"Patience, Muichi," Voremos muttered. "This plan is structured for maximum efficiency. Have some faith, child."

"She does have a point," Aberrucia mentioned. "We didn't need to come here so early. Are we planning on sleeping here?"

"If it means getting away from Gratos and his moping, I'm fine with it," said Thanatos. "I'm just as mad at our losses, but our leader should focus on recovering our strength, not wallowing in self pity."

"Not to fear," Voremos reassured. "This operation's success shall see us capable of missions without that has-been. Tomorrow will be the dawn of a new day for all of us…"

Muichi let him ramble, eyes focused on the castle she could just make out in the distance. "Tomorrow," she parroted, turning to their prisoner.

Morganna was kneeling down, body wrapped up in the Gleipnir spell, immobilized save for her head. She too looked over at Camelot Castle, eyes narrowing as she was still able to see the silhouette in the dark of the night.

Tomorrow…
