The Good Fight, Ch 1: Reunions
Hello all, and welcome to the first chapter of a new story involving Jason Campbell and JD, a prominent Human/Burb-Dog m/m couple who have featured in a variety of series I've posted here and on FA (unfortunately the vast majority of their stories still aren't available here on SF, pending restoration by the admin).
This story picks up in a narrative timeframe shortly after Jason and JD appeared in More Than Friends. I hope you enjoy!

Jason and I do practically everything together, which I suppose is pretty normal for most couples, but Jason and I aren't most couples. From what I've heard from fellow Guard Dogs not all of us go to the same lengths as me and my Jason. I'd do anything for my Human and, if you've been following along the stories I've been tellin' ya, you can probably tell. We live together, work on the show together, have almost all our meals together-- we're practically tied at the hip, and yeah, I mean that literally as often as not. Heh.
One thing we DON'T do together though is shop for house stuff-- by "house stuff" I mean sheets and blankets and furniture and all that shit. He's the nester, and I pretty much go with the flow. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the nice cushy apartment, I just don't always catch the difference between egg-shell and ivory... or whatever fucking color our couch is or the difference between microfiber and... uh... something else that people pay too much to buy. That's all stuff that I trust Jason to handle and he does just fine with it.
I'm getting off track though. I guess my whole point is to say that I'm almost never without my Jason, and I think that's a good thing. He almost always has his Guard Dog too, and I'm pretty sure he considers that a win. Anyway, other than shopping for house stuff, the only other time we're apart is when he heads off on some in-the-field work-related trip without me. Given a choice, I'd rather go with him but sometimes that's just not possible and THOSE trips blow mangy alley cat cock.
Some guy said at some point that absence makes the heart grow fonder or some shit like that but lemme tell you: that's bullshit. Every time Jason takes a trip if I'm not with him then I'm stuck at home, bein' a complete wreck. Sure, I could put on the tough-guy face and tell you that it's nothing and it's no big deal but I'm not the kinda Dog that lies. If I had a choice I'd make people come to Jay and not the other way around. But I was without my Jason during the early summer a few years back. It was a few weeks after I asked him to marry me, and then that we had to spend THAT much time apart? Yeah-- it fuckin' sucked.
It was hell having to wait for him to get back from his business trip to Nevada but I made due. I used most of the time figuring out how I wanted to tell him that Rita asked if Sully could stay with us while he went to NYU. Well... it was more than just her asking-- I'd kinda said yes without checking with Jason first. It know it's a little crazy telling your future husband that your half-brother was going to be moving in without checking in first but, well, I tend to act before thinking. It's something I'm working on. Jason's working on it with me but, like I said, he was gone for a few weeks so I didn't get any input on it from him.
What was the big deal, am I right? It was important and he'd said time and time again that family came first so I was sure he'd be cool with it. I remember thinking it'd be a great joke too-- he's so god damn perceptive I've never had many chances to surprise him so it seemed like a a great laugh to surprise him with Sully. So, yeah-- at the time it figured like a good enough idea to use a new roommate as an excuse. Throwing all that reasoning out, it's always easier to make an apology than a good argument, so Sully was moving in and that was that.
Anyway, the whole point of this story is to explain what happened on June 6th that year, and it was a Friday. Jason's plane was due in around five-or-something that night and then we'd get the whole weekend together. Saying I was 'excited' woulda been understatement of the year. I was scheduled to work til six thirty at the studio, which was probably a good thing because it kept me busy... we tend to lose more furniture by me being at home and impatient.
I took the subway home followed by a quick bus ride; it meant waiting five minutes at the stop after getting up to street level but that ain't too bad on most days. I remember catching sight of a Cuban guy necking with a Black Lab and she seemed to be getting a kick out of it. You know, now that I think about it he might have been Puerto Rican... most Dogs have a hard time telling the difference between some folks just like lots a Humans have trouble telling the difference between Labs and Retrievers.
Anyway, she wasn't wearing a collar and he didn't really look like the Leasher type but to each his own, right? It's not like every Dog that's into Humans is a Burb Dog and not all Humans in relationships with Dogs are Leashers. Now I'm just getting off topic again. Either way, I got off the bus just fine and left the Human and the Dog to their own business and returned to my own life... and my eagerly anticipated reunion with my Human. If anything else it just made me that much more eager to get home. Traffic in NYC can make a ten minute trip take forty at the wrong time of day and I honestly didn't know if I'd beat him home or if he'd get there first. As it turned out, he had arrived just a little ahead of me and he'd already started the whole dinner-making process.
I had a lot to tell him but I still wasn't all that sure on how I wanted to get started. He did just fine for both of us by skipping the words and going straight to a hug and a kiss. It was one of those feel-good "hold me close" kinda hugs and after so long apart it was definitely needed. Despite what some people think, I don't have a problem with the affectionate snuggling-kind-of-stuff, and I have to admit that it felt damn good just having him with me again, and it was nice enough to just hold him and have him with me again.
He said pretty much the same thing right into my chest but, as usual, he was able to sum it up without going on-and-on about it. "Missed you."
It was the start of a silly game we'd been playing ever since he began his irregular commutes so I countered by reflex (but still truthfully, damn it!) "Missed you more."
Our hug slowly ended and he turned back around to tend to the pan so the bacon wouldn't burn (damn, that guy knows how much I love bacon). He didn't miss a beat. "I missed you so much I had trouble sleeping."
We usually built up slowly on our admissions of loneliness until one of us admitted defeat, but I went straight for the kill, leaning up against his back so I could wrap my arms around his sides. "I missed you so much that the paw pads on my palm are raw."
He snickered the moment I made a circle with my fingers and began pumping my paw up and down in the air... yeah... I bet you know what I was symbolizing, don'cha? Well, Jason sure did. "JD, that's--"
I spoke right over him, adding my other paw to making the gesture on its own. "On BOTH paws."
Did I mention I always win that game? As anticipated, Jason surrendered. "You're horrible, you know that, right?"
I did know that, and still do... and don't let Jason fool you; he knows it damn well too. I reminded him of that fact, grinding my hips up against the small of his back. "Sure do... and you like it."
Although I could tell he would have been more than happy enough to give into my advances he was always the responsible one so Jason did the smart thing an separated from me, shrugging me off with gentle insistence. "Dinner'll be ready in a minute... and then we'll have all night to 'catch up'."
In case you didn't know, 'catch up' is slang for fuck-like-horny-animals. I planned on holding him to it too. Anyway, I was nice and patient and even set the table. I don't really remember what he made for dinner but I'm sure it was good-- with Jay it usually is, and I remember that it had bacon so, yeah: there ya go.
After dinner we snuggled up on the couch and, as we were slowly exploring one another's bodies above the clothes I licked his ear. It wasn't one of my normal moves-- way too subtle. Normally I wouldn't be one to pass up jumping right into the good stuff, but I DID need to talk to him about some important stuff, and if I'd busted a nut then chances are I woulda fallen asleep and forgotten to bring it up. "Hey, Jay?"
Jason glanced up at me, his fingers rubbing along the inside of my cargo shorts against my thigh. he was good at making it hard to think about anything other than getting those amazing fingers under my clothes. Regardless, he humored my words, wiggling his eyebrows in one of his patented silly gestures when he was in a 'silly-gesture' mood. "Yeeeees?"
After smirking and poking him in the ribs I got a little more serious. "There's a few things I wanna talk to you about."
He sat up a little straighter and became the perfect attentive boyfriend, reaching out to take hold of my paw as he set his own hormones aside. He gave it a gentle squeeze and looked me straight in the eye. "Alright... What's up?"
Have you ever had that one person in your life you knew you could let your guard down around? That special person who doesn't always have to see how bad-ass you can be and can still love and respect and admire you if you have a sappy moment now and again? That's my Jason, and that's why I was able to start the family talk with him. There were two important things to discuss but I was happy to start with "I'm glad you're home."
He smiled patiently, giving my paw a squeeze with his hands as he laughed. "You've already said that-- at least twice."
I pulled my paw and his hands up to my muzzle so I could kiss his fingers then lick the back of his hand. "But I mean it... a lot. It's not just something I say, y'know."
He responded with a kiss. "I know."
We could have left it at that and god knows I wanted to, especially with how uncomfortable it is wearing cargo shorts with a full sheath, but Jason was worth it, and I had more to say so I kept the clothes on. "Any update on what's going on with the Golden and his Human in California? Are they getting the green light?"
I'm sure anyone following Burb Dog news knows about the first Human/Dog marriage a few years back and yeah, it was that year-- Jason covered the whole thing, in case you didn't know. By that point we'd been engaged for awhile even though it wasn't legal yet for Dogs and Humans to marry. Jason's a smart guy so I knew I didn't have to spell it out for him; he figured out why I was asking. and I knew he realized why I was asking. He slid his hand up my shirt and began rubbing my belly. "They'll get there... and so will we."
I gnawed on my tongue to keep my leg from kicking; my Jason has that effect on me. Instead, I reached down and took hold of his forearm, pulling it away from my stomach so I could nibble on his fingers. "Let's just say fuck it all and get married anyway. I don't need politicians to tell me that you're mine."
There wasn't a better time at that point and so I reached into my pocket. When I proposed to Jason it wasn't exactly spur of the moment but it was the only time I could build up the nerve: we were knotted in the shower. It wasn't exactly the traditional kind of proposal but, like I said, Jay and I aren't the traditional kind of couple. Still, I know my Jason and I knew him back then; he liked some of the more traditional stuff and I'd foused on fixing that while he was in Nevada. "You should know what happens when you save a Guard Dog, Jay--" I reached between the cushions and pulled out a box so I could show him the ring I'd picked up. "Now you're mine forever."
That made Jason turn red in the cutest way, and then he let out a laugh; I really like his laughs. He squeezed my paw again. "Oh come on... you've saved me tons of times."
I pulled him close and nibbled the hair atop his head as I presented the ring to him. "You saved me first, you know."
He held out his hand so I could put it on him. Getting closer yet, my Human climbed up into my lap so he could sit facing me and he craned his neck so he could reach my muzzle with his lips. "Thank you, JD... for all you do for me."
The feel of his weight against my hips gave my voice a little more of a throaty growl than I'd planned. "That makes both of us, Jay."
He pressed his body to mine and he lowered his head so he could kiss the underside of my muzzle, and then my throat, and then my chest. The tone of adoration in his voice made my insides give a little happy-quiver-of-joy as "You never cease to amaze me."
Of course, with my human so close, body pressed up against mine, that wasn't the only thing 'quivering'... and I could tell he noticed that too. I snuffled the top of his head before responding "Well... if I amaze you THAT much, maybe you might want to consider returning the favor?"
He laughed, knowing exactly what I meant and he drew back letting go of my paw so he could slide his hand up my shirt. I closed my eyes, grinning wide as I enjoyed the simple pleasure of feeling his fingers slide through my fur and, before I knew it, my shirt was rising up over my head and so I raised my arms to help him free me of the confines of polite society. Jason has this way with his hands-- he can do things with his fingers and the way they cleave through fur on their way toward somewhere.... interesting.
I enjoyed it even more when his second hand slid along my shorts up my thigh. A throaty growl of pure joy escaped me when I felt him begin to unbutton my fly. The sound caught the moment his fingers slid down through the opened fly and wrapped around my sheath. I could barely manage a groan as he started easing it back to release my grateful cock. "Ooooooh yeah...."
Jason murmured softly "So..." Although most people never realized he had it in him, my Human has the sexiest bedroom voice, "...what else did you want to tell me?"
The slamming of the front door made both of us freeze in place. Do you know how much it sucks when you think your baby half-brother is due in on the sixteenth but you find out you misheard him tell you "the sixth"? It sucks as much as blue balls.
The mood was pretty much put on hold when Sullivan stepped into the living room and froze on the spot, suitcase in one paw and a duffle bag thrown over his shoulder. "Uh... hi?"
I put on my best embarrassed, shit-eating grin and glanced at my Jason. "I... might have invited Sullivan to come live with us."
Based on Jason's expression I could tell that he was not as annoyed or as angry as he was bemused. I shot him a helpless look even as my erection desperately tried to maintain his interest with a dribble of precum into his grasp but it didn't take long at all for me to realize that I was being subjected to my punishment. Disengaging, Jason left me to button back up as he dismounted from my lap before addressing our new roommate. "What a surprise! Come on in, Sully!"
In that moment the humor I'd built into the situation during my scheming was completely lost to me.
