Frozen

Commissioned by Shadowy Matt

_ _

Matt stretched out on his towel at the nude beach, a little exposed while lying on his back with everything on show, but, well, it was not the kind of place where people were going to be staring at him. Everyone was comfortable enough there, or so he thought: for he wasn't ogling anyone either.

He was, however, watching his girlfriend, Jenniefer. She was as naked as she was, though her skin had a bit of a tan to it already, given her a golden hue that, as the summer went on, would darken to a richer, bronzing tan. Not that Matt liked her any particular way – just exactly as she was. Her body was a little softer and curvier, with more than enough around her hips and thighs to give her body more shape, though she didn't like him being “too handsy" with her.

Which was a shame. Jenniefer sat up, her blonde hair lightly curled that day, though he didn't think she had spent all that long with the hot tongs that morning – not with the day set to warm up as much as the forecast said it was going to. He unashamedly let his eyes trail down to her breasts, which pulled down softly under their own weight, the lure of gravity tantalising yet still not enough for them to lose their perkiness. Her nipples, even then, were soft, the warm brush of air against them not enough to get them to rise.

If only Matt could do more on the beach, sinking into the warmth as he rolled over on to his stomach to hide how his shaft was thickening, though only faintly. He just had to make sure no one else saw, for that surely would not be in keeping with the nude beach and good manners, even if he had only been looking at his girlfriend.

“You having fun, sweetie?"

He chirped up, though Jenniefer rolled her eyes at him, her torso raised as she propped herself up on her elbows, looking back down the beach in the direction they had originally walked.

“Honestly, Matt…"

She clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth, though Matt knew she wasn't really annoyed. It was just how she was with him, seeming a little blunter sometimes, but that was not a bad thing. They knew each other well after a good span of time together and that sort of thing just glanced off one another by that point.

Jenniefer, however, frowned, squinting and putting her hand flat above her eyes as if to shade them.

“What's that?"

She shook her head slowly and Matt sat up too, though his shaft had softened and returned to normal, thankfully.

“What?"

There was something there, however, the sky darkening, storm clouds swirling. He sighed and sat up a little straighter, wishing he still kept his binoculars on him when he went out. But he'd fallen out of the habit of it.

“I don't know," he said. “Maybe bad weather's coming in? That doesn't look great… Ugh, should we pack up and head home?"

“Mm, yeah, obviously."

She could have been snappier about it, but even Jenniefer hastened, gathering up their things into bags and grabbing for her swimwear. Others on the beach noticed the storm too, clouds swirling and brewing, the sea below them darkening too as the wind picked up along the beach.

Cold brushed his skin and Matt took a breath. That wasn't right at all… Why should there be such a cold wind in the middle of summer?

They didn't even get the chance to get their clothes back on before the storm hit, sweeping across the sea and the sands as it built in intensity, whipping up the soft sand into a stinging, biting frenzy. It snapped at their bare skin as screams rang out across the beach and other beachgoers shrieked, some grabbing for clothes while others just fled, in varying states of nudity.

It was not as if that was going to matter anymore anyway, not as they ran for their lives, something primal inside them telling them just what was at stake there, even if their active minds did not. No, it was a primitive sense that alerted them to danger, even if no one could have expected a freezing storm to sweep through, not on a day in the middle of July, chilling them to the bone.

“Jenniefer!"

Matt screamed her name, her bag clutched to his chest, though there was nothing he could do. She was there, even if nothing they put on would protect them from the chilling bite of the storm as rain pelted them – but it was an icy rain that soaked them, hair plastered to their skin as Jenniefer grabbed at Matt's offered arm.

“Here!"

They ran blindly, water streaming into their eyes, yet it was cold, colder than any rain they had ever been caught in. Even as they fled, the sand soaked and shifting under their bare feet, everything chilled around them, the sand darkening, moving in strange ways, no longer behaving either with the expectations of soft sand or hard sand. It still had to bind into firmer, more solid sand, where it had not been expecting a sudden, horrendous drenching, but there was something more at work there.

Rain changed to sleet as they stumbled up the beach in the direction they thought lay the dunes. It was not where the car was but they had to try, calling out to one another, though it was their hands clasped tightly that kept them together. Moreover, it stopped Matt from succumbing and fleeing ahead of her as Jenniefer stumbled, seeming to fall prey to the loose, clumping and shifting sand more often than he did.

“We've got to keep going!"

At least, that was what Matt tried to say as the rain came down as sleet, loose yet frozen streams of moisture. It splattered over him, his teeth chattering, but even then he did not see the writing on the wall, his own fate spelled out for everyone but him to see.

Maybe Jenniefer knew, as her struggles grew more immense, that she was ill-fated, that things were not going to end up pleasantly for either of them. But she still tried, even as her teeth knocked together and her body shook with the force of her shivers, unable to control herself as her body went into survival mode.

And yet there was nothing they could do about it, the freezing, chilling rain seeping into their bones, their skin plastered. Matt heaved, an icy blast sinking into his lungs, eyes bulging, but…it didn't seem like he could blink all that easily anymore, no.

“Mmmph?"

His lips were cold, so cold, and he moved far more slowly than he should have been, his strength fading, even as he tried and tried. Yet his feet came up against something cold and slippery, something that had frozen in a sheet with little ruffles in it. Little ruffles, which looked kind of like waves…

The ocean. With all its salt content, even the ocean had frozen as the deluge of the storm had come from its very depths, the freezing storm trapping every beachgoer who had tried to flee. It would not stop there, of course, but flood the city and country and beyond with its cold.

His teeth chattered, but…he couldn't move. Not as much, not as Jenniefer slowed, realising they had come back to the ocean and not to the dunes, not away from danger. In the storm, they'd got turned around, and, well, there was no escaping it then, not for them.

Matt's thoughts came slowly, much more sluggishly than usual, and he tried to turn, though he could barely lift one leg from the ground. It raised maybe an inch before coming down again, his mind screaming at him to run, even while it was not strong enough to obey the order. His neck locked up, lips parted, frozen in place, every drop of moisture in his mouth chilling to the point it was frozen solid.

A silent scream ripped from him, Jenniefer only half-visible out of the corner of his eye as his slow, dulled body paused, frozen in place like a statue. One foot resided ahead of the other, at the edge of the ocean, as if he had still been running when he had been frozen, but the cold seeping into him numbed him from head to toe. Jenniefer seemed to be a little hunched over, her legs bent, as if she had been trying to curl back into herself, to warm herself in some way, though it would have been the body's last attempt at escaping the chill.

As freezing sleet poured over them in a deluge so fierce they could not have seen through it if they tried, they stood still, the numbness that had taken hold slowly softening. Yet it did not warm, but moulded faintly into a sense of detachment from the present moment, their minds retreating, eyelashes frozen as their eyelids were left half-closed, in the middle of a blink. Frozen droplets blocked out their vision as a last puff of frozen air escaped Jenniefer's lips, though it was swiftly swept away by the storm, not even allowed to be that momentary visual spectacle a viewer may have wanted it to be.

There were others on the beach, dotted about as statues, though there would be no defrosting for them that would bring them back to life in any way. They would remain there as the storm ravaged the neighbouring ground inland, though not too far, merely serving as a warning for what could come, truly, from the depths of the sea.

Cold.

So cold.

His fingers froze, slightly curled, and his eyes stared, though he wasn't really present in his mind anymore. Just detached, withdrawn, fading away as his lungs stilled, no longer capable of drawing a single breath. His organs shut down, despite his body funnelling every drop of blood and heat away from his extremities, his fingers and toes blue with cold, frost spreading across his cheek. If not for Matt's impending doom, it would have been beautiful.

Jenniefer was gone, portrayed forever as a beautiful, frozen statue, looking down at the sand, at the beach she had so enjoyed. Even the bush of her pubic hair had frozen, though it looked frostier than other parts of her body, moisture having clung to the hair and bundled up into it as she froze. Her toes remained curled into the frozen sand, having dug in a moment before the sand grew too solid, under and around her feet, for her to make any indent or impression on it in the slightest.

Even Matt's cock and balls froze, though they were the furthest thing from his mind when the cold came in. His soft shaft had twitched to the side, as if it had frozen in the middle of movement, though that could not be helped as he'd tried with all his might to flee, to get away from danger. His hand, at some point, had parted from Jenniefer's, her fingers outstretched to his, though only parted by a couple of inches.

Forever preserved, Matt faded away, his brain shutting down as his heart stilled, no longer even able to keep beating in such extreme cold. It was a better end than suffocation, his mind blank and easy in the moments before death. Why, Matt had even felt warm, if only for a second.

They'd said, in old tales, that in the moments before freezing to death one would feel warm all over, as if they were sinking into a deep, hot bath. He'd never be able to say that it was not the case, at least not for him, not in the depths of the freezing storm, not as it sent him into the next world and the aftermath of death, one way or the other.

Eventually, the storm passed, and left the dead to be counted, even if they would never unfreeze. For it was not their fate to be released, not at all, and there was nothing in the human world that could defrost them, even if it would not bring them back to life either.

Some would try. Many would fail.

Those that perished in the cold storm that day on the beach never would know.
