Part 1

It all started with the sound of his pager from the Peace Core ringing and buzzing. As James grabbed his things, Callie his girlfriend of four years exited the room. Not really a morning person as she walked right into the bathroom across the hall. He made himself breakfast for himself then fixed her a plate then grabbed his keys. Next he made his way to the front door as Callie exited wearing nothing but, a towel.

"Morning, babe I left your breakfast inside the microwave if you're hungry. Sadly, I've been called into work I should be back in about twenty minutes or so. Is there anything we need for the house because I'll pick it up before coming home?" He said. She didn't bother to say anything just shook her head and entered the bedroom. With a shrug of his shoulders James shuffled his key chain then stepped outside.

After unlocking the doors he climbed behind the wheel then started the engine. From there it was a short drive to the Peace Core branch office he's assigned to. As he entered the building Madelyn a silver fox anthro was the first to greet him. Playfully knocking on her desk as he made his way to his supervisor Larry's office. Where the male Badger anthro motioned him to take a seat after closing the door.

"Sorry, to have you paged James but, we need an expert in African tribal customs. Even though you just back a couple days ago during a long stay in the Amazon. Sadly James you're the only person that speaks the many of the Zulu languages. I don't enjoy having to do this to you my friend but, I need you to fly out, ASAP." Larry stated. James sat there quietly for a minute and told Larry that he'd head out immediately.

Considering this is the job he signed up for and now that his mentor retired. Larry handed the file on his desk over to James that headquarters had faxed over. Knowing James he'd probably read it over on the flight there as the pair stood up. Shaking the other's hand, James bid the badger farewell and walked out to his car. He drove back home to begin packing his stuff for his long red eye flight to Africa.

As he pulled in front of his home something felt off as he reached the front door. Sure enough his suspicion was right as he entered the house and Callie approached him. Judging from the look on her face told him that she was clearly mad about something. "You little fucking son of bitch, what in the fuck were you thinking, James? I've wanted that handbag since I saw it when we were at the mall last week." She stated.

"First of all that bag was a thousand dollars, secondly I don't have that kind of money. Now if memory serves me you asked me to buy those expensive outfits awhile back. That you haven't gotten around to paying me back for when you promised to." He replied. Over the past four years of being together this has been an ongoing theme. Sure enough his response made Callie blow the entire situation out of proportion.

"James I've giving you everything and all I want is this designer handbag. I swear to god you're nothing but, a self centered bastard that doesn't deserve me." She remarked. For some reason or another something inside of James's mind and heart snapped. He took three strong steps towards Callie causing her to step backwards. Until her back bumped against a nearby wall as James' behavior changed.

"You, listen here you fucking gold digger I've had enough of your bullshit. I've catered to your every little want and need like any loving boyfriend should. Especially when the stuff you desired was beyond my means but, I got anyway. All you can seem to do is piss and whine when ever you don't get your way. So here's the deal you've got ten minutes to pack up and leave. WE'RE THROUGH!" He instructed.

Not once in four years has James ever raised his voice or used such language. Let alone spoke with an icy tone making Callie fell shaken, scared and frozen stiff. A loud shout from James fixed that as she hurried to pack up all of her belongings. He watched intently as Callie loaded her stuff into the car he bought for her birthday. Callie actually had the gall to try sucking up in the hope that he'd change his mind.

Instead of giving her pleas a response he extended his hand and asked for her keys. She desperately tried conning James into rethinking everything he's doing to her. Snatching the keys right out of her hand then slammed the door in Callie's face. As he locked the door behind him that's when her true colors came to the surface. Granted to a lot of people that break up with someone they're dating this is normal.

As she began calling James everything possibly think she could before taking off. Little did the tramp know James had gone off to his bedroom during her tirade. Carefully packing everything he needed for the long flight then called his landlord. Asking him to swing by the apartment wanting to speak with him face to face. By the time James placed his bags by the front door Gerald's car parked out front.

As the feline anthro walked towards the door James opens it and let him inside. They sat down in the living room where he tells Gerald what will be happening. Naturally Gerald was quick to notice that Callie wasn't anywhere to be found. He figured that James had enough of her and kicked that gold digger to the curb. What bothered the older feline was when James asked him to rent out his apartment.

Seeing as he isn't exactly sure if and when he will be coming back from Africa. "Relax, my friend unlike my other tenants I've never had any problems with you. You're apartment will be here waiting for you when your mission overseas is over. Now would you like me to remodel the place since you and Callie aren't together? Honestly I'd like to inspect and make repairs if there's any done while you're away." Gerald said.

Taking a couple of minutes to think his offer over then gave Gerald his permission. Shaking his landlord's hand James began loading his gear into his car's trunk. Next he climbed behind the wheel, started the motor and drove to the airport. Gerald stood on the porch watching him drive away and wished the human luck. Knowing that where James is going isn't exactly known for its pleasant hospitality.

Two and half hours later James was on route to the deepest roots of Africa. Where it was his duty to aid the tribes of the area and restore peace between them. Of course he wouldn't know exactly how much work he'll have until he arrives. This flight would have three stops followed by a three day drive to the outskirts. A friend and tribal member that James and his mentor helped years ago was waiting.

Hopefully with a detailed report of what's going on he can stock up on supplies. Luckily James didn't require a translator since he speaks several of the Zulu languages. Due to his mentor imparting that very useful knowledge before deciding to retire. Hopefully those skills will pay off for all the nights he stayed up trying to learn them. The one thing he wished would get easier overtime was jet lag inbetween flights.

James finally landed in the city of Bangui then checked into a hotel for the night. He would head to the Peace Core office first thing in the morning to check in. Right now he's too damn tired to do much of anything outside of getting some sleep. That would've been the case if someone hadn't come by and paged his room. Already tired from his flight now he's gotta deal with whoever wants to see him.

Climbing back out of the nice soft bed, threw something on and went to the lobby. Where he was approached by a reddish gold furred anthro lioness in a regal dress. It was very clear that she wasn't from around here judging by her attire alone. Something told him she was from either the local government or higher up. "Greetings, Mr. James Vomone I am, Lady Najuma would you please follow me." She began.

"I'm terribly sorry to disturb you but, it was urgent that I speak to you immediately. You're friend Ikeno sent word to my father a high ranking military viceroy. Things in the heart of the Savannah have grown worse between all the tribes. Apparently there are rumors of a rouge hyena troupe have been stirring up tension. My father has asked the Peace Core to pull out so they can capture these renegades.

Sadly as you know your associates couldn't bring themselves to leave the injured. So instead of fighting them we've assigned guards that specialize in unarmed combat. Thus respecting the tribe's law about using forbidden weapons on their land. We are hoping that who ever these rogue hyenas are, we can bring them down." She stated. James listened carefully to what the lioness told him about current events.

"Hmm, something about this doesn't seem right why would rogues attack. There must be a good reason why they've organized and begun raiding the tribes. If it's all the same to you and your father I'd like to investigate this matter. Perhaps I can find a solution before things escalate anymore than they already have." He replied. Naturally she didn't like what he said but, she respected his courage and honesty.

"Do you think you'll be able to cease all hostilities amongst the tribes Mr. Vomone?" She asked. He stated not completely but, at least it would get things moving in the right direction. It would be up to the tribal leaders to uphold and honor the treaty they create. His job right now is to get out to the Savannah, sooth tensions and heal the injured. Having befriending several tribes they'll be happy to help him upon asking.

"Send word to Ikeno, have him run to the neighboring tribes and fetch their healers. I will meet them at this location three days from now, here's my satellite phone number. Pull out what forces you've got in place among the tribes for the time being. Now in the event something goes wrong and you don't receive my nightly signal. Than you have my authorization to come in and use any means necessary." He said.

"Understood and to ease your conscience I'll make sure that no lethal force is used. My government doesn't wish to harm any of them merely to end their hostilities." She replied. Nodding alright she leaned forward bowing to him then she turned and left. As for James the only thing on his mind now was getting himself some sleep. He'd worry about everything she shared with him first thing tomorrow morning.

After relatively decent night's sleep James woke to the sounds of his sat phone. Rubbing his eyes and face as he climbs out of bed, grabs the device and says hello. Nobody replied instead he looked at the display screen and read the message. It was a confirmation text with coordinates where the military would be waiting. They requested that he check in every ten to twelve hours or the best he could.

Though if they don't hear from him after forty eight hours they would move in. Sending them a response telling the military that he agreed to keep them informed. With that he placed the phone back onto the nightstand and jumped into the shower. Once dry he threw on some fresh clothes then packed all of his gear away. From there he headed over to the branch office to sign out a small off road truck.

Next a small crew loaded food, medical supplies and gear into the truck's bed. Making sure that everything was secure, he climbed behind the wheel of the vehicle. Starting up the engine then carefully pulled out onto the road and down the street. It would take him three days to reach Ikeno's village where he'd pick up everyone. James couldn't help wondering how much Ikeno has grown since he last saw him.

Knowing the young leopard he's already become a full fledge member of his tribe. He should be getting close in age he'll be permitted to select himself a bride. It'll be great catching up with his old friend along with other members of the village. Hopefully who ever these rouge hyenas are he hopes it's for a good reason. What ever that might be he needs to get the fighting to stop one way or another.

For now he needs to focus on getting to the first stop along this long route. When James gets there he'll take a little time to dig up any info about those hyenas. Perhaps the Intel he's able to uncover will be of great should he encounter them. Granted the odds of that happening were slim right now but, will certainly change. Especially when James ventures further into the very heart of the African Savannah.

Sadly all his digging turned up nothing even when he reached his second stop. With one more day of travel ahead of him followed by a visit with the military. If only to gain a better idea of what's happening within the border they've setup. The following night he arrived at Ikeno's village and learned what's been happening. He wasn't the only one the apprentices of the tribal healer that left this morning.

"Ikeno, Mosi and Tian left early to gather the other healers from our sister tribes. Last we've heard is they're heading towards where all tribes go to talk and trade. With your vehicle you'll be able to catch up to them before they reach that location. Though please use the utmost caution James the rogues were spotted nearby." Khalfani stated. Thanking the chief for the update and friendly warning James resumed his journey.

Knowing Ikeno he's probably sticking to the hard to access yet, fast grass trails. Mainly to avoid detection from enemies or wild animals that, call this area home. Luckily a majority of those routes intersect with the road he's currently using. Odds are he'll run across them hopefully sooner rather than later as he drove. Keeping a close eye out for his friends along with any surprises waiting to pounce.

After two and half hours of driving south from Ikeno's village but, no sign of him. When from out of nowhere something huge springs out and slams into the truck. Sending the two thousand seven hundred pound vehicle flying off the road. Barrel rolling violently over and over for at least hundred feet before stopping. Despite the roll cage and seat belt protecting him, James still lost consciousness.

"Sheesh, Ketria let's hope the driver is still alive after being knocked around like that. Texra, Lenecia go and retrieve the supplies that were scattered during the crash. While my sister goes and pulls who ever was behind the wheel from the wreckage." Kazie stated. All three nod and begin carrying out their leader's specific instructions. Ketria was extremely gentle as she pulled the unconscious James from the truck.

For some reason or another when she looked upon the human she felt a spark. Holding him close to her barely covered chest as she rejoined her older sister. While Lenecia and Texra were just about finished gathering all of the supplies. "Kazie, the driver's still alive he just took a really good bump to the head." Ketria replied. Walking towards her little sister placing a couple of fingers against James' neck.

When she felt a steady pulse she turned her attention back on the others. Making sure that nothing was left behind before giving the order to leave the area. Seeing as anyone could be traveling down this particular road at any moment. Lenecia and Texra quickly loaded all the supplies onto a large make shift wagon. With a commanding bark the group quickly fled taking the cargo along with James.

Ketria kept James close to her at all times even when they stopped to rest. Her sister found it incredibly strange that Ketria was behaving like she's in love. After all he was a human and would never measure up to the standards they require. Though seeing her little sister happy kept Kazie from doing anything about it. Even Texra and Lenecia had grown curious of their captive so they checked him out.

From out of nowhere Ketria gave the pair a not so subtle warning growl. Causing her sister's head to whip around while shock appeared upon her face. Despite being the largest of all four hyenas Ketria is also the gentle one of the troupe. So for her to growl like that said mountains about her feelings towards the human. "Okay, sister we'll leave him alone though what happens when he finally wakes up?" Kazie said.

Considering how bad the crash was it would be while before he does wake up. Wondering what time it was Kazie took her dagger and placed it into the ground. Takes a few steps back then makes note of where the sun's shadow is positioned. According to the shadow it was three hours before daylight gives way to night. With their home at least another day's trip away Kazie orders everyone setup camp.

"Ketria, I know you're not going to like me but, it's your night to gather firewood. Bind the human's arms and legs, I'll keep an eye on him until you return, okay." She stated. Scowling at her sister for making such a request but, did as her sister had asked. Once he was bonds were securely tied she, Texra and Lenecia went to get everything. Leaving Kazie alone with the still unconscious James along with the supplies.

Humans weren't an uncommon sight in these parts though this one bugged her. Why was he traveling with all this stuff especially without some kind of escort? It didn't make sense unless he works for those Peace Core people she's heard of. Deciding to investigate this hunch Kazie walked over and searched his pockets. Until she found what looked like it possessed the answers to all of her questions.

Sadly she couldn't read the language written on James' identification badge. Though matching the picture up with his face confirmed it and the cargo was his. Of course she still had questions but, again they'd have to wait until he wakes up. Suddenly Kazie's senses pick up on something approaching their current location. Fetching her spear and shield then readied herself for who or what was coming.

Much to her relief it was only Lenecia returning with everyone's water pouches. "Texra will be along shortly with dinner and your sister has returned with firewood." Lenecia said. Pointing just off to Kazie's right as Ketria came into view carrying a large dead tree. No matter the situation it's hard to be anything but, impressed with her strength. What surprises Kazie and the others is that Ketria isn't prone to bouts of rage.

Especially when she's provoked her level of restraint is quite frankly amazing. If something were to push her over the edge nobody would be able to stop her. Once Texra rejoined everyone, Kazie wasted little time making everyone some dinner. Ketria scooped James back up into her strong arms and held him against her bosom. As Kazie rolled her eyes trying to figure out what her little sister saw in that human.

Even Texra and Lenecia seemed to show interest in the human Ketria was holding. Keeping to herself until she can have all of her questions answered by him. "Lenecia, could I have my water pouch please I'm thirsty and I'm sure he will be." Ketria replied. Handing her the large animal skin pouch filled to the brim with fresh water. Popping the top off with her thumb, took a couple gulps then gave him some.

As the cool liquid hit the back of his throat James awoke then drank slowly. When his eyes locked onto Ketria's green eyes the human was frozen with terror. James began to shake nervously wondering what the hyena planned to do to him. Seeing this Ketria wisely laid the human onto the ground and gingerly moved away. Giving James some space to calm down before saying that she meant him no harm.

Kazie on the other hand decided that since he's awake he can answer her questions. Upon trying James did the only sane thing that came to mind scream like a girl. Thus causing all four women to cover their ears until his voice had died down. Despite the slight ringing in her ears Ketria slowly approached with her palms up. Seeing this gesture more than a few times told James that Ketria wasn't his enemy.

Though her sheer size alone and her compatriots made it hard to believe. Fortunately James gave Ketria the benefit of the doubt until he learned more. Next he spoke the various Zulu languages he knew hoping to find common ground. "Color me impressed that you actually know so many of the tribal tongues, human. Fortunately for you we do speak enough of the English language to get by." Kazie informed.

With that said the eldest of the troupe began to question James carefully. Paying close attention to his every answer for deceit but, only heard the simple truth. Which did surprise her so she allowed him a chance to get information from her. All the while Ketria inched closer to James until he could feel her breathing. Tilting his head up and all that came into view was Ketria's rather massive bustline.

Several thoughts raced across his mind as he stared one or two were naughty. Even faced with the possibility of death he wouldn't waste such a unique chance. To admire such a bountiful beauty like Ketria or the other women he's with. However he found it pretty strange that none of these ladies had a mate of their own. Figuring that it wouldn't hurt James asked them why none of them had husbands yet.

"Since we're rogues therefore we aren't acceptable females for males to marry. Each of us has tried to court a male we believed was worthy of us only to be rejected." Lenecia said. The tone of her voice was filled with pain at the fact of being denied repeatedly. James understood such feelings more than he himself was actually willing to admit. Having been watching him like a hawk the entire time Kazie saw his mood change.

Curious to discover what caused James to become so quiet all of a sudden. Not really wanting to share such a tale with them seeing as he's still processing it. "A couple days ago I broke up with somebody I assumed shared all of my feelings. Only to learn that all she really cared about was spending every dime I was making. Four years of my life wasted on someone like her, how could I've been so foolish." He replied.

"Perhaps our meeting has a much deeper meaning than all of us first realized. From what I understand that she never truly deserved the love you had to offer." Texra stated. The others turned to look at her like did words actually come out of your mouth. Upon seeing the others reaction, told him that they're not use to hearing her speak. James couldn't ignore the fact that Texra's assessment of the situation was correct.

"Unfortunately, I must be going there are people in need of my assistance. Wait a tick! Did you say that you're rogues?" He said before he realized something. Kazie took a couple of bold steps towards the human and confirmed what he heard. "Yes, we are the hyenas that have been stirring up tension amongst the tribes. We've only been attacking in order to obtain vital supplies and tools." Ketria began.

"I made sure that anyone that fought us was disabled to keep from being followed. It's not like we haven't tried more peaceful solutions to obtain what we required. Sadly all attempts failed thus forcing us to take far more drastic methods, human." She revealed. Hearing this one option did come to mind and would spare them from a bleak fate. Sadly there's one problem that was would their pride prevent them from agreeing.

"I'm not sure how to ask this and avoid getting my limbs painfully ripped off. So I'm going to just come right out and say it if that's alright with all of you, naturally." He started. Looking to each female receiving their permission to continue. "There's a way to sooth tension and keep the military from hunting all of you down. Surrender yourselves into my custody and assist the Peace Core in this region." He said.

Right away the fur on Kazie's neck flared up, upon hearing the word surrender. "Before I decide I'd like to know what exactly will happen to us if we decide not to." Kazie replied. James didn't hold back in telling her they would probably be imprisoned or killed. Personally he didn't want to see it come to that if it could be prevented. "I see, do you honestly think by turning ourselves in we'll avoid punishment?" She asked.

"Yes, trust me it's a lot better than fighting and losing your lives in the process. You don't have to decide right away but, I'd like for all of you to at least consider it." He said. Snarling in annoyance Kazie stormed off leaving the others to wait for her to return. Being tied up James couldn't give chase unless he asked someone to release him. Luckily he didn't have to when Kazie came back a moment later and cut his bindings.

"Alright human, my troupe and I hereby surrender ourselves into your custody. Under the promise that nothing will happen to us when we arrive at the Trade Grotto." Kazie stated. Swearing to do the best he could to protect them so they sat down to eat something. Lenecia happily told James that they had had liberated all of the supplies he possessed. Pulling out his sat phone from one of his short pockets then typed a brief message.

Informing the military that the rogues have just surrendered and are in his charge. That they wouldn't have to get involved and he'd contact their superiors later. Seeing as he still has a lot of work to do as the commander replied with good luck. Though they would remain where they're stationed in case he needs additional help. "Okay, let's pack up and get moving we've got a lot of ground to cover." He stated.

"Excuse me, I do not recall dying and leaving you in charge of my troupe. Fortunately for you human you're right there's a lot of travel left for us to cover." Kazie said. According to Ketria they've carved out a route that'll take less time than normal. Now the terrain is rough but, they'll arrive at the grotto by tomorrow afternoon. Suddenly Ketria scoops James up into her arms then places him onto the wagon.

Of course he tried to protest but, given Ketria's sheer size he decided against it. Next Texra grabbed the wagon's forks then began pulling as they got underway. Kazie took the lead, Lenecia was right behind her and Ketria walked besides the wagon. Unable to help herself Ketria would steal glances at the human as they traveled. Even Kazie found herself staring at him if only to keep him from trying anything.

She may have agreed to surrender that didn't mean she was going to be his slave. Especially if he decides to go back on his word and turn them over to the military. What she was having a hard time understanding is her sister's attraction to James. For a human he wasn't bad looking, in decent shape but, will never measure up. Considering Texra, Lenecia and her little sister are almost double the human's height.

Odds are his manhood wasn't worth the time to even look at let alone pleasure. During all of this examination her ears picked up on Ketria and James talking. Judging from their tone the pair seemed to be enjoying getting to know each other. Instead of listening to her gut to stop them she let her sister have some freedom. Since it's been a long time since Ketria has been able to relax since what happened.

What shocked her more was that Texra would occasionally join their conversation. It was strange that she had a stronger accent than Lenecia, Ketria or herself. Thus proving a much earlier hunch that she's from a tribe rarely seen in these parts. She couldn't begin to say where exactly but, she must be from a still isolated tribe. Every few hours Ketria, Lenecia and Texra would take turns pulling the heavy wagon.

Until just after midnight Kazie decided to stop so everyone can get some sleep. Seeing as the roughest part of the route there taking is a few miles from this location. They would need to be rested before even trying to traverse terrain that lies ahead. While setting up camp James offered to cook everybody something to snack on. Wondering why he'd offer to cook only to learn he wanted to help pull his weight.

Kazie allowed him to handle preparing their meal while being under her watch. He hoped off the wagon then got a decent cooking fire going and made their meal. Being busy as a member of the Peace Core are he rarely had time to cook. Oddly enough Kazie found herself drooling as the delicious smells filled her nose. When he told them it was ready they nearly bowled poor James over to get to it.

Sadly by the time they finished there was nothing left of the meal he cooked. Leaving him to fetch a couple energy bars from the supplies inside of the wagon. As he took a bite from the bar something told him what he made was only a snack. Considering how big three of these hyenas were their appetites were just as big. Despite having to fight and scrounge around for a decent meal on a day to day basis.

James actually felt sorry for them and hoped he could turn their lives around. Sadly Kazie the appointed leader of this troupe might not want to leave here. He'd have to get her alone then have a little sit down and chat with the proud warrior. Granted that would probably be like trying to strip old paint off a rusty battleship. Than again with few options left available to them she might be more open minded.

Whatever he decides to do it can only help give them a second chance at survival. "Umm, Kazie was it could I speak to you alone for just a few minutes please?" He asked. She perked up then turned to face James as he climbed back off the big wagon. Motioning the human to follow her, grabs a branch from the pile then sets it on fire. From there they take a long walk to make sure that the others can't hear them talking.

"We should be far enough away from the others to speak without them hearing. Though close enough for them to come to our aid if we end up getting attacked." She stated. Nodding alright James didn't hesitate in asking her to return home with him. He explained that there was really nothing keeping them from staying here. Reminding her that she didn't have to decide now but, at least think the offer over.

Whether she stays or goes will be completely up to her and the others to decide. With that said James quietly walked back to the campsite leaving Kazie by herself. She stood there mind going frantic as she looked around at the darkness of night. The only light around was from the torch he placed into the ground between them. <Could we really leave land of our birth for a new life someplace else?> She thought.

To be continued.
