“I’m glad we went out today.”
Nikita smiled, though Matt’s heart could not help but skip a beat, even when he was just sitting there on his beach towel looking at her. It had been so easy to fall for her and her blonde hair seemed even lighter after all the time they had spent in the sun that summer, but it would likely darken again a little, come winter, if she didn’t take the time to dye it again.
He liked her however she was, of course. There wasn’t anything Nikita could do that would feel badly to him, or even change the way he looked at her.
The sun beamed down, barely a cloud in the sky, though it was not quite as warm there as expected. Maybe that was why the beach was quieter than usual? In fact, Matt couldn’t see anyone else there at all, which was strange indeed.
“Hm…”
But his attention was more than overtaken by staring at Nikita, for the only thing she was wearing was a pair of dark sunglasses – and plenty of suncream, of course. That was always something that had to be taken into consideration when they were spending time in the sun, especially when both of them were naked from head to toe. Their clothes were still nearby, folded up neatly in Nikita’s beach bag, but neither knew they would never again need them.
Their fate had already been sealed.
But they could still enjoy the nude beach until then, relaxing back on their beach towels, legs stretched out so they could make the most of the last days of summer. Yet he couldn’t drag his gaze away from her shapely legs, the soft plumpness of her thighs making him wish he was between them, eating her out. Not to mention her feet with the soft soles and the round of her heel, her wriggling toes begging attention.
“Mmm…” He murmured lowly. “Did you think…”
The ground shifted beneath the towel and Matt blinked, lifting his hand? Had that been real? Had he felt that? Nah, couldn’t have been anything important.
THUD.
And there it was again. The ground trembled under them and Nikita frowned, blinking down at the golden sand.
“Huh… Did you feel that?”
Another thud came…and another. Matt shook his head.
“Huh, I don’t know, must be doing some building work or something nearby.”
It was a bit of a lame excuse, as far as excuses went, but there was only so much Matt could do or hope for at a time like that, trying to cling to things as something dark and cold sank into the pit of his stomach. Unease twisted around his heart, though he didn’t know why.
“Uh, Nikita…”
But they didn’t need to finish their conversation, not as something, something great, lumbered down the beach towards them. The thud of its footfalls sent deep reverberations through the ground, though Matt and Nikita had not been checking their phones that day, to see the warnings of something untoward happening.
Yet who would have imagined that a monster would have been on the beach that day, Matt’s heart going still, if only for a long, drawn-out moment, as he stared at the beast, some distance away and rapidly gaining on them. It was huge and lizard-like, with a thick, bulky body, though it was nothing like anything he had ever seen before. It had to be at least five-storeys high, but he wasn’t about to get a specific measurement at that time, its long, thick tail swinging behind it.
Large plates with points lined its back, seeming to start between its shoulder blades, though the lizard-like monster walked hunched over with a drumming, lumbering gait. As slow as it looked, every stride ate up the ground, its claws and feet leaving big marks in the ground, though the soft sand spilt into the imprints it left, muddying and blurring the edges of them. There would be traces of the beast, of course, with its slick green-black hide, leathery and pulling over its body as it moved, but none of them would be conclusive.
Scrambling to their feet, they backed up, nearly tripping over their own feet as the sought escape, secondary characters, suddenly, in their own story, though there was nothing they could do about the twist their fate had taken. The beast snarled, a long, snake-like tongue whipping out of its massive maw, drools of saliva strung out between its teeth, and Nikita let out a breathless squeak.
“Oh…”
Matt’s stomach roiled and he lunged away, shoving Nikita out of the way as he fled for his life. He wasn’t thinking about her, not in the slightest, terror gripping him, his entire system locked down into flight mode. He heaved – but her scream stopped him in his tracks, looking back with his eyes glassy and strained.
“No…”
Nikita howled as the monster hauled her up in one great, clawed hand, though the claws sliced into her, leaving red tracks of blood spilling from her body. It had not care for her, only spotting and easy meal, and her stomach dropped at the same moment the ground fell away from her, gravity no longer having any meaning.
Not much would have meaning to her as she was stuffed, a passive player in her own life, into the beast’s maw, grinding onto his tongue with a muffled gasp. It wound around her slickly, dragging her into a maw that was more than large enough to take her whole body inside.
Matt’s heart seized and he could not help but stare as Nikita, his girlfriend, was taken into the monster’s jaws. She looked so small, like her body held no substance at all.
The beast crunched down.
Nikita grunted, her head aching, her whole body ringing through with a blast of pain that snarled so deeply into her she didn’t know what to do. But there was nothing she could do, not as her body screamed and clung on to life, fingers twitching, coming up against razor-sharp teeth.
It chomped and chewed, grinding its jaws from side to side, even though its teeth were sharp. Dimly, she was aware of the pain fading to a dull, resounding throb, bearing through her body, not knowing or understanding her mind was trying to make things a little easier for her, adrenaline pumping. Her mind could do amazing things in protecting her from the horror of her end.
“Unff… Noooo…”
She could not even be sure that any words left her lips as she was rolled over and over, teeth grinding into her, easily slicing through her flesh, chomping into her as if she was nothing more than a snack to him. Her life was insignificant to the monster as it chomped down viciously on her, blood spilling between its teeth, leaving its mouth awash in a richly hot and metallic taste.
“Nnngghhhh…”
Her eyelids fluttered, the teeth closing in around her, like a cage – but that cage was chewing into her own body, the teeth the bars and slicing brutally into her thighs, her stomach, her chest and her shoulders. Another pierced her neck and her head spun, everything suddenly seeming very dark.
It crushed her, slowly, increasing the pressure and the bite force of its jaw to inflict more and more force, almost as if it relished taking her life. And yet Nikita was not even in her own mind anymore, drifting and fading, her ribcage shattering, organs popping, spilling their contents into the rest of her body, her internal cavity where her fluids mixed.
There was no amount of bone or muscle or fascia that could save her, oh no. But her boyfriend would never have been able to save her anyway, even if he had not run before her, shoving her back and out of his way.
They were doomed either way.
He blinked, eyes watering, his lower jaw slack. As if in slow-motion, Matt watched as the beast tipped its head back, sending the woman down its maw, sliding to the back of its throat as it gulped. The lump that was Nikita travelled down its throat, a bigger bulge than Matt would have expected – and she was gone.
Gone, gone, gone.
He could have run. He could have fought. He could have done something. Yet he couldn’t do anything, only stand there as the beast snapped him up, a giant, dripping maw descending over him.
“Mmmnnnnn…”
He groaned, fingers twitching, limbs jerking, trying to fight back – but it was far too late for that. Against such a beast, he never would have stood a chance anyway, yet the human body tried all the same.
“Unff… No!”
He barked a cry, head pounding, yet the beast’s teeth were already crushing him. There wasn’t enough space in there for him! Heaving and retching, he tried to cling to the monster’s tongue, striving with all his fragile might to stay out of the way, though that was absolutely impossible.
He grunted, twisting, but the beast chewed, grinding into him, teeth dicing and slicing, patterning his skin in red slashes. Yet it was the crushing pop of his bones that got to him the most as he kicked out and his foot was severed from his body, his cock wet with blood and saliva, flopping about uselessly at his crotch.
Weakness flooded him and yet Matt was acutely aware of every bit of pain, how his body strained, his last moments drawn-out in the true terror of horror. His jaw hung slack in a soundless scream, yet he didn’t even have the breath in his lungs to let his true feelings be heard, his thighs offering no resistance as the monster chomped into him.
Blood spilled around him until he couldn’t see anymore, hair slick to his scalp, the rich scent of it in the air stirring his stomach in a bad way. Yet there was no time, not even then, to gather himself, to come to any sense of understanding of his end, for the monster was hungry.
He grunted and chomped, the beast chowing down on him as if he hadn’t just eaten Nikita. The lizard-like beast was not the kind of monster that swallowed prey whole, which was why their end was so slow, the beast crunching his chest to pop his ribs, caving into his chest cavity. His stomach wobbled, light and airy, yet that was only due to it spilling its contents out into the monster’s mouth, everything that had been a part of him simply no longer needed.
Yet the finale came as the beast used its flexible tongue to shove him from one side of its mouth to the other, controlling his every movement, Matt’s limbs, what was left of them anyway, flopping and wiggling about, no muscular control remaining. His skull came between the monster’s front teeth and he faded from the crushing, crunching pressure as the beast bit down, snapping teeth through his skull and crushing the last part of him that mattered in the slightest.
And then Matt was gone, no life left in him as the beast chewed all the way through, cutting his body up into easily digestible chunks. He was more than ready to disappear down the lizard-beast’s gullet and the monster, with its maw stained with blood, tipped its head back with a loud, glugging gulp.
Matt’s body disappeared down into its belly like the meat it was – but at least he would be with Nikita forever, even though it very much was not the kind of end they would have chosen for one another. Not in the slightest, no, but no one could match up to a monster like that with their frail human bodies alone.
Maybe heavy military equipment could do the trick, but…well…that was never an option for Matt and Nikita.
So, that was their fate: to be crushed and chomped, eaten by a monster.
All they left behind were their belongings on the beach, though people always suspected what happened to them as the beast continued its rampage…
