Chapter 17: Pleasures of the Pack

Roger was quiet for the drive back to Lisa and Louise’s house, and so was everyone else. He didn’t know what the overall consensus was between those that sided with the doctor and those that sided with him. He knew that Louise had defended him from the doctor’s rather human-blaming mindset, but there was still something about the whole situation that made him feel like maybe she would have preferred him being somewhere else, somewhere where he wasn’t a threat to her and Lisa. As for the gecko, he didn’t even know what she thought.
Brutus? The snake seemed to be the sort that would keep his mouth shut unless he could make someone uncomfortable.
André? The cheetah didn’t say anything during the drive, and he’d been so cautiously neutral that it was hard for Roger to believe that he felt anything more than the surety that he needed to get gone. He sighed under his breath, lowering his head into his hands.
They eventually arrived at the house again, and both of the females left the car. The crocodile looked back at him, holding up a hand and asking him to wait, and he nodded as they went into the house. Brutus looked down at him, then surprised him by tentatively patting his back.
“Wasn’t your fault, you know,” he said. “That one, uh…”
“That one was on you, Brutus,” André said, shaking his head. “But also on me. I should have looked for a better doctor.”
“Wasn’t either of your faults…I was the one that makes everyone feel like that.”
“No. Your pheromones are. There is a difference between who you are and what you create.”
He appreciated what the cheetah said, but it was hard for him to see that as the case. If he wasn’t human, if he hadn’t come across the wall, then the whole situation might have been avoided. He shook his head, sighing as he looked down at the floor of the car.
“Hey.”
Brutus shook his shoulder. When that didn’t work, the snake gripped him by the chin and forced him to look up. He did, and the serpent Peacekeeper narrowed his eyes.
“Stop it.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re acting like you committed a crime, and it’s making me want to punish you like a criminal.”
“…”
“Do you want me to treat you like a criminal?”
“…No.”
“Then stop acting like one.”
Tap tap. He looked over his shoulder, not entirely surprised to see Louise at the window. She was armed with a spray can in either hand, and he groaned as he realized what that meant.
“Might want to plug your noses, you two.”
“What –”
Brutus’s question was silenced as soon as the door opened and the entire car was sprayed down with deodorant and perfume alike. Roger had been able to hold his breath in time, but the snake and the cheetah were not so lucky. They gasped and gagged, coughing and sputtering as Louise unloaded the entire contents of both cans. By the time they were empty, he was completely covered in their contents and his shirt and pants were soaked to his skin.
Then she grabbed him, pulling him out of the backseat with a tug that nearly ripped his soaked shirt off. The Peacekeepers kept hacking and gasping away, with André desperately trying to roll down the window and the snake sounding like he was trying to hack up his stomach and lungs at the same time. Roger was barely better, wheezing through the sheer strength of odor-masking stink that clung to him.
“Ugh…ah…”
“You’ll be fine,” Louise said. “It’s non-toxic.”
“Yeah, but…mmph…feels like I just took a bath in detergent.”
“What a coincidence.”
“…You’re not going to –”
“No, but it’s the next best thing. Now, come on.”
#
One bath later, he was tolerable, at least. The sheer strength of scent that Brutus had caused, as well as the new layer that had come from the drive home and being cramped into such a tight space, was washed off. He felt like Louise had taken a scraper to his skin, too, but that was neither here nor there.
They welcomed him to the dinner table, at least, and Lisa had made tacos for the night. It was something like chicken, though he was pretty sure that it was nothing of the sort, and it was spiced with just enough smoky stuff to make him feel like it had been roasted over a firepit for a long time. The heated bits were good enough to get him to feel the burn, but not enough to sweat. That was probably intentional.
As they sat there in silence, he felt like he was restricting what they could say to each other. More than once, he started to make a move to excuse himself early, but every time that he began pushing back from the table, Louise grabbed him by the wrist. She stopped him cold, shaking her head, and he went with it.
Eventually, when the food was exhausted, Lisa sighed.
“That doctor was full of bullshit,” she said, and both Roger and Louise had a spit-take at the sudden swearing. “Well, he was.”
“Heh…heh…I agree,” Louise said, nodding. “And as long as we take care of things, we’ll be fine.”
“…You sure about that?” Roger asked. “I mean, we saw how bad it could get.”
“Yes, if all the different dominos all lined up, like that fucker made happen,” the crocodile said, rolling her eyes. “Most of the time, I’m not gonna be that pissed off, or that stressed, or that wound up all at the same time, and most of the time, you aren’t going to be all sweaty and…”
Louise gestured idly for some word, and Roger ended up supplying it.
“Horned up?”
“That.” The crocodile nodded. “That was a set-up of a test, and there’s no two ways about it. Nothing more or less than that.”
“I agree with her, even though I don’t know all the specifics. Just because I get a little sleepy when I smell you doesn’t mean that I’m going to get that way all the time. And besides…” Lisa smirked slightly. “You being here means that Louise is even more attentive than usual when it comes to my…needs.”
The crocodile spluttered, and it was everything that Roger could do to not laugh at the sudden naughty turn that the conversation had taken. Even as Louise turned as red as a crocodile could, stuttering and stammering as she tried to defend herself, he hid a laugh behind his hand. They were still good people. Very good people, as a matter of fact.
And somewhat immature, he was reminded, as Louise tossed an empty tortilla at Lisa, and the gecko responded with a spoonful of sour cream. The food fight continued for nearly a minute, and Roger did the smart thing of ducking under the table until it was done. When the food stopped flying and there was no sign of anything falling to the floor for at least ten seconds, he slowly poked his head over the side of the table again.
Yep, they were done. They were panting and a bit tired from that, but they were done. They both looked away from each other and him, almost like they were trying to pretend that they hadn’t just done that, and he went along with that as he took his seat again.
“So…you’re sure I can stay?” he asked. “At least, until André and the others find a different place for me?”
“Of course,” Louise said. “Just because some quack that doesn’t know how to set up a proper fucking test and fucks up the baseline and –”
“Long story short, yes,” Lisa said.
“…Thank you.”
“No problem.”
“Yeah. None here.”
Roger nodded. This time when he moved to stand up, he was allowed. He started to reach for his plates, but Lisa was already in the process of gathering them and moving them to the far side of the table. Getting the hint that he didn’t need to help clean up, he made his way back to the bedroom and opened the window. The cool night air felt good as it started blowing in, and he sat down on the foot of his bed, rubbing his face as he sorted through the whole giant mess.
He was going to continue to cause problems to some degree or another, but both of the ladies seemed to be quite willing to risk that. Lisa liked it, Louise was finding it fascinating as he stayed with them and exposed them to different things. Neither wanted him gone, and he knew for a fact that Louise would be all about fucking his feelings if she really did want him gone. She’d never hold back, not that one.
Shaking his head, he looked out the window at the darkening sky. It was going to be a long night, and he best start it now. At least that way, he’d get a chance to sleep through until morning, and hopefully, this time, André didn’t come sneaking in overnight to try and make things awkward in the morning.
Pulling off his shirt and kicking off his pants, he laid down in his underwear. Rolling onto his side, he slipped off to slumberland.
#
He woke to the feeling of something licking his foot, and he blinked as soon as he realized that it was something warmer, wetter, and far more slippery and smooth than André’s tongue would have been. Roger lifted his head, opening his eyes. Still dark, which meant that something had snuck through the window. More than one something, too, as he heard the shuffling in the shadows.
Who snuck in?
The soft huff snuff of something canine reached his ears, and he groaned under his breath as he curled his toes. That had to be the wolf again. Wuru. He had been followed, after all.
He sat up and looked at the foot of the bed, and his eyes widened. Not one, but three wolves were staring up at him, each and every one of them looking at his body with fascination. Some of them were already hazy-eyed, and he realized that they must have been sniffing him in his sleep. Wuru, the one in the middle that was still sniffing at his toes, was only slightly clear-eyed, and Roger yanked his feet back before that could get worse.
“What the hell are you doing here?” he hissed.
“Looking for you, Zookeeper,” Wuru said.
“I told you, no more.”
“But we need it…please…”
“You’re not supposed to be dumb animals. You’re not supposed to be dumb. Why do you want that?”
“We weren’t supposed to be smart, either,” one of the others said, looking down at the floor. “We started as dumb animals, and then…well, we got smarter. We didn’t need to be. Some of us didn’t want to be. We didn’t have a choice.”
Roger shook his head. Regardless of whether or not they had a choice, they still needed to get out of here. If Louise caught him like this, then he had every chance of losing even more of her good will. He didn’t need that, just like he didn’t need this.
As he tried to reach for the side of the bed, though, the three wolves moved. The two at the side grabbed his arms, pulling them over his head. Wuru grabbed his blankets, pulling them off to the side, snuffling up between his legs and nudging his nose against the bulge in Roger’s briefs.
“Mmmph…”
“You don’t smell as strong,” Wuru said, almost sounding disappointed. “Why? You smelled so good before.”
“It makes other Anthros feel bad. I’m not going to stink just for you to feel good.”
“But you smell right when you smell…”
The other wolves were already moving to sniff at his armpits, and now that they were standing beside him, he could see that they were just as naked as Wuru was. They were starting to stiffen, too, their cocks rising from their sheaths, fat red rockets coming up and out into the open. He shivered as he saw the way that they were almost steamy in the cool night air, and he tried to edge himself away from the tapered tips.
The other wolf was still busy nuzzling against his groin, the pressure gradually making his cock start to rise. He groaned, trying to shift back, but he had three much stronger Anthros standing all around him, one pinning his legs, two pinning his upper body even as they worked on sniffing and nuzzling against his armpits.
It didn’t take long for his cock to start rising from the mixed feelings of helplessness and fascination. There was that odd feeling of weird, mental pleasure from feeling wolves sniffing around his pits, wanting the smell, wanting his smell. They were always pushing in, and they were getting so intent on getting him hard, that there was no holding back. In short order, his cock was pushing the front of his underwear forward.
Wuru grinned against it, kissing the head before pulling his underwear down and away. The pair slid off his legs and hit the floor without the slightest bit of ceremony, exposing his dick and his balls and –
“Mmmm, there’s the smell,” Wuru almost growled. “That’s what we want…”
The wolf shoved his nose against the head of Roger’s cock. One breath was all it took.
“Mmmph…”
The wolf ground his cold nose from tip to base, breathing in every bit of scent that there was to find, and as the pre-cum started flowing, there was plenty of it. One of the wolves holding his arms over his head pulled away, moving down to start sniffing and licking along with Wuru, while the other stood there petulantly, shaking his head.
“Not fair.”
“Speak for – mmmph – yourself…”
This was so wrong. He should have been pushing them away, but even now, pinned the way that he was, it felt so good to just let them do this. Besides, what was he supposed to do? He was pinned. If it didn’t feel so good, it might as well have been rape.
Was it rape? He didn’t know. It was hard for him to –
“MMMPH!”
All of a sudden, Wuru was sucking him all the way to the base, bouncing his head up and down and sucking him harder than last time. His cock throbbed all the harder, a little pre-cum flowing up to add to the already existing flow –
And then the wolf stopped. Wuru slid off to the side, growling and stalking around like a feral of sorts, and the other wolf joined him. The third wolf, the one holding Roger’s arms over his head, darted down, taking breaths as well. It didn’t take long before the haze of the pheromones started taking effect, either.
Roger leaped from the bed as soon as he could, but the wolves blocked him from running to the window, moving like they were already some sort of wild pack. They stood between him and it, pushing him backwards towards the other side of the room. Another darted around him, going to the door, standing between him and it.
They were aggressive, more aggressive than he expected by far. He whipped his head from side to side, staring down at them, his breath coming in harsh rasps.
“Oh fuck…oh fuck…”
They started crawling across the floor to him, their tails unmoving, drool coming from their jaws. He could smell them, too, their cocks throbbing hard between their legs, their eyes staring straight ahead. They wanted this. They wanted it badly, and they were going to force it on him unless he took control.
And so, he did.
Tap, tap, tap. One nose-boop for each of them, and the wolves stopped, staring down their muzzles at their noses. He grabbed Wuru by the scruff of the neck, pulling on it until the wolf went slack in his arms, then shoved him to the ground. With the wolf face-down, ass-up, he sat down with his balls dangling right over his face.
“Bad dog.”
“Mmmmph…”
“Back off, dogs.”
The rest of the pack slowly pulled away, giving him and Wuru a little bit of space. He reached down, stroking a finger down the back of Wuru’s neck, and the wolf moaned, whimpering, wagging his tail almost immediately.
“You want to get something out of me, you need to do it on my terms.”
“Mmmph…”
Hoping to keep control for as long as he could, Roger pushed the tip of his cock down. He was still oozing pre, and it was enough to make the wolf moan again, wagging his tail and going further down, becoming hornier, more obedient.
“That’s it. Do what the Zookeeper says.”
Oh, god, it made him sick to say something like that, but it was enough to keep the wolf from fighting back. He reached around slowly, finding the throbbing, dripping, bestial shaft between the Anthro’s legs. He gave it a couple of slow strokes, and it soon had his hand completely covered by wolf goo.
Rubbing it off into Wuru’s fur, he looked at the other two. He shook his head.
“Are you two part of the pack, huh?”
“Woof.”
“Bark. Woof.”
They weren’t very good at that, but then again, they probably hadn’t gone this far down before. He shook his head, slowly getting to his feet. His cock wobbled between his legs, swinging back and forth as he walked around the three wolves. He made his way to the window, blushing as he realized just how easily he could be seen from here, and then pointed out.
“No. Bad dogs.”
The three wolves whimpered, shaking their heads. They clearly wanted to stay, but he shook his head.
“No. Bad. Out!”
It was a risk, a gamble, but it worked. The three wolves looked at each other, clearly wondering if they could take him, but the thud-thump of someone else in the house told them that their time was up. The feral-minded wolves leaped out the window one after the other, rushing across the yard and into another lawn, leaving him be.
No sooner had he kicked them out than the door to his bedroom opened. Louise looked in, then promptly turned her head to look at the ceiling.
“Tell me that you’re not starting some new exhibitionism thing.”
“No, just…had a visitor. Or three.”
That brought the crocodile’s head back down, and she moved to the window to stare out. She narrowed her eyes, glaring at the retreating forms of the wolves in the distance, and then shook her head.
“Hmmph. We need a lock for your window.”
“If you do that, I’ll start to stink it up.”
“I’ll take that over more unexpected visitors.”
“You sure?”
“I’ll deal with it. I don’t want people invading my house to come after my guests.”
“Well, um…thank you?”
“Don’t thank me. This is just taking care of business. Right now, you’re business.”
“And you’re grouchy from being woken up this late at night, aren’t you?”
“Fucking right in one.” The crocodile shook her head, slamming the window down and sliding the bolt in place. “That’ll hold for now. And if they break in, I’ll have reason to charge them.”
“You can’t charge them now?”
“Not without a better description than I could give the Peacekeepers. Dammit. Next time that happens – if there’s a next time – scream for me. I’ll come here and chomp a head or two.”
“…Wouldn’t that extend your house arrest?”
“Dunno; I’m a biologist, not a lawyer. Right now, don’t much care, either.”
She shook her head, grumbling as she stomped out of the room. He watched her go, slowly shaking his head before getting back in bed. At least this time, he hadn’t been blamed for anything. Closing his eyes, he slowly drifted off to sleep, ignoring the throbbing hard-on that he still had after his semi-rape.
#
Morning came, and with it came a deep desire for the toilet. He barely managed to get his underwear on before he had to run for the toilet, getting rid of the usual pressure that came after a sustained hard-on. That done, he hopped in the shower, getting rid of the rest of the scent that lingered after he had been…well, accosted? That was the word, he supposed, and it was a good thing to get rid of it all.
Once that was done and he’d toweled off, he grabbed some fresh clothes and met Lisa in the kitchen. She was in the middle of getting some pancakes made, and he sat at the table to watch her. There was no response at first, and he wondered if he’d done something, but then she turned to look at him and smiled in surprise.
“Oh, hi! I didn’t know you were up.”
“Sorry, thought I’d made enough noise.”
“No, just in my own little world this morning. Thinking about what we’re going to do going forward. You know how it goes.”
“Yeah…I do. Where’s Louise?”
“Doing something outside, I think. She was muttering about ‘traps’ or something.”
“…I really hope she’s not doing what I think she’s doing.”
“Don’t worry. The old bear traps are still in the garage.”
“…I’m not sure if I’m more concerned that you have those or that she might have used those in the first place.”
“Six of one, half-dozen of the other.”
“Want me to set the table?”
“Please.”
He got up, pulling down the plates and getting them all set up around the table. By the time that he had the silverware out, Louise stepped through the front door.
“That’ll teach ‘em a lesson if they try sneaking around here tomorrow night.”
“What’d you do?” he asked.
“Just a few little traps. Some glue on the windowsill, and a few other things like that.”
“What happened, anyway?” Lisa asked, poking her head out from the kitchen.
Louise gave him a look that suggested he better be the one to explain, so he did. He let her know everything that had happened overnight, and even got down to the franker details about what had been done to him. Neither of the ladies got turned on by the story – something that he was pretty sure would have happened with some of the guys that he knew on the other side of the Wall – but they were attentive. Lisa asked once or twice how something felt, more out of curiosity he felt than any other reason, but neither of them treated it as something sexy, or something funny.
In fact, the gecko looked downright shaken. She leaned back against the counter, turning off the burner for the pancakes, and shook her head.
“Someone broke into our house?” she asked.
“They were looking for me, but…yes.”
“They broke in and…Oh, my god…”
“They’re not going to do it again,” Louise said. “I’m making fucking sure of that.”
“But what if…”
“They’re not going to hurt me, and they’re not going to fucking make it through again. They try anything, and I’m not going to wait for the Peacekeepers.”
That was what he was a little more concerned about, though he could tell that Lisa was more focused on the fact that they had been broken into without her even knowing about it. He imagined that Louise had been more focused on handling the immediate issue rather than informing her partner about what was going on. That was understandable, but…
Well, so was Lisa’s reaction. The gecko was actually shaking, wrapping her arms around her middle.
“This isn’t supposed to happen.” Louise opened her mouth, but Lisa shook her head. “No, it’s not supposed to happen. We’re supposed to be okay in our own homes, and now we’re not. How…how…”
Roger shook his head. This was his fault, again. He made them go, but he’d been the one to make them come, too, and he’d been stupid enough to just…
Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.
He got up from the table, walking to the door. Louise grabbed him, but he ducked under her hand.
“You better take care of Lisa. I’m…I’m going to find a hotel or something. Keep out of the way so that you’re not in trouble, or danger.”
“André’s gonna be pissed about that.”
“Yeah. That should make you happy.”
“Roger –”
Lisa letting out a barely suppressed sob was all the distraction he needed. When the crocodile turned to her partner, he started running, making his way out of the house and down the street. He had his money, or at least, enough of it to make an exchange and get into a hotel. That would be for the best. At least, for a night, it’d be for the best. He could get some privacy there, he could make sure that nobody that he didn’t want to see him ever got to him, and they could have some time to think about whether they really wanted this or if he was just being a dead weight to them, or even worse.
It wasn’t what he wanted, but what he wanted would probably end up with them getting hurt. That wasn’t acceptable.
As he left the house, he remembered the directions that they’d given him for the bank. Up that giant hill. He hoped that there was a way to wash off the sweat when he got to the top, because if he didn’t, then he was going to cause some serious problems at the bank. No getting around it, though. He shook his head and started walking.
#
Far too long after he started, he finally reached the top of the hill. A few cars went by, some slowing to look at him, the one human in this part of the city, but most were too busy with their day-to-day tasks to actually notice something as minute as him. He panted for breath as he paused at the top of the hill, sitting down on a bench. His shirt felt like it was glued to his shoulders and chest, and his pants felt like they had turned into heating pads, cooking his legs where he sat. He groaned under his breath, not even wanting to think about how his feet felt in his shoes.
That wasn’t a hill. That was a goddamn mountain…
Shaking his head, he focused on getting his breath back, hoping that the breeze was whisking some of the pheromones away. He looked at the bank across the street, and hoped that they were going to let him make an exchange. It’d be the fastest way to take care of things at the moment. Judging by the fact that neither Louise or Lisa had come after him in the car, it was pretty clear to him that they were at least considering his idea of staying away for a bit.
Of course, that would mean that, after he got the money, he’d need to find where a hotel was. He still didn’t have cell service out here, which meant that his mapping app was going to be a dud. There was no real expectation that the Anthros would be that willing to help him out, even if he gave them some money. There wasn’t really a rightful expectation of being pointed in the right direction by someone at the bank, either.
There was a lot that he didn’t have a right to expect, now that he thought about it.
Idiot…
He sighed. Going back would be a bad idea right now. They really needed time, time that he hadn’t been able to give them and space that they wouldn’t have with him in the house. Maybe in a day or two he could go back.
Shaking his head, he focused on the bank for now. Once he got the funds that he needed for his stay, he could figure out where to go from there. If nothing else, he could find a way to call a taxi, and then he could pay for them to take him to a hotel that they recommended. Once that was done, then he could stay out of contact with most anyone else, as long as he kept to room service and telephone calls.
Thus decided, he made his way across the street. He hoped that he had wiped himself down enough to keep the sweat and pheromones from affecting everyone, but in case he hadn’t, he walked in quickly, cash in hand. He wanted to do this quickly.
#
Nothing happened, thankfully. He had exchanged his human dollars for Anthro dollars, and he had about five thousand in cash. That would be more than enough for a few nights away, and plenty of treats for himself and more.
Better still, the bank teller had told him the best place to hail a cab to get back to the city center was just down the street. He thanked the mole in question and made his way there, hustling along as best he could. He even had the good luck to manage to hail a cab as he walked up, hardly believing his luck.
“Where to?” the black bear in the driver’s seat asked.
“Whatever is the closest, nicest hotel.”
“Heh, nothing nice around here.”
“Well, whatever one’s nice.”
“You got it.”
The bear turned onto the road, the meter already ticking. Roger had already mentally assigned 40 Anthro Dollars to the trip, but from the look of things, he might be able to get away with less.
“So, uh…you’re a human, right?” the black bear asked.
“Yeah…yeah, that’s me.”
“The one that came over the Wall, for the whole resettlement thing?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Cool. So, where you staying?”
“We’re still figuring that out. There’s been some host programs going on, and…well, we’re seeing where I fit best.”
“Huh. I thought they’d have a better idea of where to put you. Shows what the government knows, I guess.”
“Yeah…guess so.”
The driver seemed to get the message after that and stopped asking questions. Roger looked out the window, keeping his attention on the passing streets and buildings. At first, it was an attempt to keep track of where he was, and where he was going, but as time went on, it turned into little more than another distraction. He just felt…wrong. Like he couldn’t get this right. And he was starting to wonder if there was a way for a human to live around Anthros without either being a ‘Zookeeper’ figure, or something just as dangerous.
