She pushed it open and I was met by the dark Abyss once again. Like a frightened child, I hung close to the queen as she moved forward, unfazed by my actions. “why show such fear Dex, nothing can hurt you here." The queen giggled. The air was stale and warm and could feel sweat running down my forehead.
“Do you know a soul looks like Dex? Think of it as a small glowing orb that floats. It's amazing that something so small can control something as big as a body. Each soul has a unique characteristic, a personality, a voice that cries out. So many human souls surrounded me once, asking their goddess for forgiveness, for the things they did when they were alive. So many of them…."
Helios mumbled as I heard the snapping of fingers, creating faint red sparks in the process.
“I wanted to give every last one of them a second chance at life so they won't make the same mistakes but time and time again, they fail. To think that they would live on without me, it was my mistake." she scoffed as a small red ball suddenly appeared above her hand, a wave of intense heat hit my entire body as the Queen gently tossed the glowing object into the air.
“Do you know how easy it was for me to implant new memories into everyone? To give them the impression that the only reason why they have so very little numbers was that of a deadly disease and not a war with the beastmen. I couldn't bear to tell them the truth, that is why I hid it from them so that they can continue to live in blissful ignorance."
The glowing speck suddenly flew up towards the air, swallowed up by the darkness. Moments later, my eyes were blinded by a bright flash. I instinctively shielded my eyes to what just happened but I could still hear the Queen's voice call out to me, stern and aggressive. “pull your hands away Dex and bear witness to my resolve!"
“Y-yes your maj-" was all I was able to say before I scream in horror to surround me. So many faces stared back at me, some looked like they were in constant agony while others seem like they were enjoying what was happening to them. The room was illuminated by to what looked like a huge crimson star that rested in the center. I could see mountains of red flesh stretching far up to the ceiling or lack thereof. There was no end in sight, everywhere I looked was more of them. “Are these.....peopl-."
“They are merely the resources you speak of Dex but yes, they used to be people, elves, Dwarfs, beastmen, and even dragons. All of them were my enemies which in turn, were enemies of humanity 3000 years ago." hesitant, I took a closer look at a nearby woman with blonde and hair green eyes whose head was the only thing visible on the surface of a hill, she repeatedly begged me to help her. Closer inspection revealed that she had ears that were twice as long as mine. “I thought elves were nothing more than myths!"
“That's because I made it that way Dex. I offered them the chance to join us, to stand together as one dominant race but they all sided with those damn…. animals. I could have wiped them all out but this fate was far more fitting.
It's a kindness they do not deserve." She roared which caused some of them to whimper in fear. I felt something wet grabbed on to me. I looked down to see some sort of furry hand hanging on to my ankle, its claws digging into my skin. I freaked out and jumped back causing the arm to be ripped away from whatever it was attached to.
“Not only does this nursery recreates humans, but also improves them under each new generation. Your body itself came from dozens of people here. Skin, bone, organs and even your mind came from them." Queen Helios said. I wanted to throw up after hearing all this but somehow my….. 'stomach' held together as I asked her my question.
“Your majesty…. How many are in here." She looked at me and laughed, looking rather proud of her answer. “2 billion! I shoved over 2 billion in here and converted all of them into this mass of flesh. You would have thought that it would be impossible to perform such a thing in here but with the help of both mehkane's and Yaldabaoth's abilities, I can continue to expand the inside of the nursery indefinitely."
“But it won't matter if we are unable to gather m-more?"
“That is correct. If humanity dies once again without the nursery bringing them back, then we are doomed. That's why I require the utmost loyalty from you Dex." She slowly moved closer to me until her face was inches from mine, her golden eyes catching me in a trance. “Am I clear?" She asked.
Any sane person would have turned and run like their life depended on it. I, however, didn't do such a thing and she knew it which made her smile. We had an understanding of each other.
“I knew there was something special about you. We will soon take ov-"
“Forgive me for interrupting ma'am but there must be a better way to protect our subjects than risking another war with them." I told the queen, seeing the dumbfounded expression on her face. “you find my current methods of resupplying the nursery flawed? How bold of you." She said, crossing her arms.
“No no no, it's not that your majesty! I'm just saying, the world had change. Alot, going about this with a hostile mindset could only mean disaster."
“Then what do you propose we do then?" The queen asked. I didn't realize that we were still inside the chamber, all the indistinguishable moans and growls completely flushed out as my attention was focused on her. I wanted to feel sympathetic towards them but nothing came up, I didn't feel bad at all! Maybe it was her doing, I'm not sure.
“Before the collapse of all three citadels, we had a military that was light years ahead of everyone else and yet we still lost, why is that? The question was more directed to me than her. “Because they took a considerable amount of time to plan and strategize but they also had help from an outside source. I have reasons to suspect that the organization responsible for protecting the nursery had something to do with the beastmen gaining our technology so quickly."
“So you speak of treason!?"
“Well yes, I remember you saying that there some sort of internal conflict with them. Maybe one side was helping the beastmen while the other tried to stop it." Queen Helios drew in a deep sigh, walking past me and back through the door we came from, I followed her out, continuing my conversation.
“The traitors successfully gave the beastmen our tech while also defeating the loyalists. Confrontation with their modern-day forces is foolish." Once we made it passed the double doors, Helios snapped her fingers, causing the miniature sun behind us to quickly expand, incinerating everything it touched. Thousands of voices all screamed out in unison as the wall of red reached the entrance and stopped. “They were nothing more than leftovers, a waste of space from that point. Now I'll ask you again, what do you propose we do advisor?"
“We destabilize them." I said slowly, seeing the queen cock her in curiosity. “Go on."
“The beastmen currently holds a powerful economy and government so why not we act as a recovering, third world country for them to see while we secretly break down their very society and build it back up, molding it into something more desirable." My confidence grew as I laid out my idea to her. Sure enough, queen Helios was indeed impressed.
“Interesting, to mislead them into thinking that we are frail while we throw an finishing blow. All without spilling any bloodshed. I like it!" The queen chirped. “This won't be completed overnight, however. It May take a few decades until we meet the desired results, ma'am. I'll probably be dead from old age by then."
“Hmph who said that you will die of old age?" she giggled as we made it to yet another wooden door further down the concrete corridor. I asked her to clarify what she meant. “Your soul and body belong to me Dex, I won't let you go that easy."

I couldn't stop tossing and turning from my bed. A full week had passed yet, those vengeful faces started to cloud my dreams. Each and every one of them hated the queen for what she did. To be melted together and used as a simple tool then discarded. I wouldn't want to experience that at all. Sitting up slowly, I rubbed my face while looking out the window.
Every building as far as I can tell was made out of the same material as the nursery but was shaped the same as structures from alpha. I gotta give props to mehkane for trying to replicate the designs. Living in the capitol building, I could see all sorts of activity happening in all directions much like when I was under the care of the beastmen.
This city is puny compared to the citadels but as our civilization slowly grows, our borders will expand. Dawn will break soon and I must get ready to meet her majesty in the throne room. My official job as an advisor starts now.
