Chapter 2

Cara shaded her green eyes from the late afternoon sun as she scanned ahead on the road.

“Do you see a good place to camp for the night?” Maryana asked.

“I think so. It looks like a clearing up ahead. Assuming there is water nearby it should be perfect.”

It had been almost two days since they left the town of Eggans. They had been trying to make up for the day of travel they lost while Caleb recovered from his time entertaining the lady mayor. They pushed themselves for less breaks and walked far later into the evenings than they normally would before making camp.

The clearing had clearly been used by travelers in the past. There was already a ring of stones for a campfire and there were signs of old wagon tracks crisscrossing the clearing. After dropping their packs the four adventurers began to set up camp for the night. Cara and Maryana set up the tent while Vexena gathered deadfall from the treeline for the fire. Caleb left to find some fresh water and perhaps find some small game for supper.

“Is it just me, or is Caleb doing worse today than he was yesterday?” Maryana asked as she hammered a wooden stake into the ground.

“He wasn’t slowing us down any, or complaining about not stopping for a proper lunch.” Cara replied as she stretched the canvas tight over the frame.

“I know, but he just seemed…off.”

“He probably is still recovering from his encounter with Lady Lucrezia.” Vexena said as she deposited a pile of branches by the stone circle. “He’s just being his normal stoic self and pushing through it.”

Maryana chuckled. “Maybe.”

“It didn’t exactly hold back last night though, did he?” Cara smirked and the other two quickly smiled as they remembered the previous evening.

“I’ve heard draconic energy can be invigorating to certain races.” The red hag said as she started to snap small twigs to build the fire.

“Let’s just hope he’s still got a little more left for tonight then.” Maryana said as she tied off the tent.

The three friends laughed as they continued to prepare for the evening.

Some distance away Caleb knelt at the banks of a clear running stream. He reached into the water with his hands and splashed his face. He had hoped that a full day of walking would work out whatever kinks he was still feeling, but that hadn’t been the case. Caleb wasn’t in pain, other than some slightly tired feet from the day’s travels. But there was something that felt off about his body. He had first felt it the previous evening.

The night had been pleasant to say the least. He had a turn with all three of his companions before he even felt truly winded. But as he lay in the tent in between Maryana and Vexena, he felt a strange tingling sensation all over his body. It made it difficult to calm his thoughts and actually fall asleep. The lost time sleeping wasn’t helping things either.

When he woke up that morning he could still feel something as they ate breakfast and broke camp. Throughout the day he felt his skin itch. There was no rash or insect bites, it just felt uncomfortable. He did his best to ignore it and soldier on, but it was starting to get worse now that the traveling was done for the day. Caleb splashed his face once more before filling the water skins with fresh water.

Maybe I just need another good night's sleep. He thought to himself as he made his way back.

“No luck with finding any game?” Vexena asked when she saw Caleb come out of the woods with just the water skins.

“I didn’t see anything bigger than a squirrel between here and the stream.” He said before starting to remove his armored coat.

“It’s fine, we have plenty of food, more than enough to reach Chayathana.” Maryana said as she started to pull food parcels from her pack.

Caleb nodded as he sat down on a log and tried to relax. The smell of sizzling sausage and onions filled the air as Maryana prepared their evening meal. By the time the food was ready the sun was already sinking below the horizon.

“Thank you.” He said as Vexena passed him his bowl of sausage and onions with a large hunk of still reasonably fresh bread.

It smelled good, and after the long day Caleb was certainly hungry. But as he looked down at the bowl of steaming food, he felt conflicted. He took a small bite of the bread while his companions ate with gusto. Although he heard his companions talking in between mouthfuls, he couldn’t focus on the conversation. His mind started to drift back to the time in Lady Lucrezia’s, or rather the dragon Lyrvarrith’s private chambers.

His rational mind understood that to a creature like a dragon Caleb was nothing more than a plaything. Just a simple meaningless encounter that would mean even less as the decades and centuries passed by for Lyrvarrith. She used him thoroughly over that night, even transformed him via magic to a draconic body on a whim. Caleb had only caught glimpses of the white scaled body Lyrvarrith had transformed him into before passing out, and it had felt powerful, even if Lyrvarrith had been undoubtedly the one in charge of the encounter.

Maryana Looked over and saw Caleb staring at his mostly untouched supper. She carefully placed her own bowl on the ground and walked over to Caleb’s side.

“Caleb? Are you feeling alright?” she asked as she placed a hand on his shoulder and gave a firm squeeze.

It snapped him back into the real world enough that he could respond. “I don’t know.”

Cara and Vexena joined them.

“Does he have a fever?” Cara asked.

Vexena pressed her hand against his forehead. “He does feel a little warm.”

“Maybe you should lie down, I can make some tea to help.” Maryana urged.

“I don’t think…” He started to scratch uncontrollably at his body.

“I think this will need more than just a cup of tea!” Cara shouted as she tried to restrain Caleb from scratching his skin off.

The amulet around Vexena’s neck started to glow as she took in the magical aura now flickering around him. But before she could fully focus, Caleb leapt up from the log, pushing her and Cara away. He made it several steps before he fell down to his knees. All three of his eyes shut tightly as a tingling prickly sensation covered his body.

As Maryana, Cara, and Vexena watched, the tips of white scales grew out from his exposed skin. A tail forced its way out of his backside, tearing apart his leggings. The bones in Caleb’s feet audibly cracked and shifted as before his draconic looking feet burst out from his boots. In fact, none of his clothing was faring well, tearing and ripping against the white scales that were rapidly encasing his body.

Caleb hunched forward, his entire body quaking before a massive pair of wings erupted out from his back. He covered his face with his hands as he felt an immense pressure at the front of his face. Caleb’s nose and jaws pushed out and reshaped into a draconic muzzle full of sharp teeth and a long forked tongue. As the spell finished, Caleb blinked. His three eyes now set in thick armored ridges.

“C-Caleb?” Maryana managed to stutter out through her shock.

He tore what was left of his tunic from his body. His white and peach colored scales glimmered in the firelight. There was a wild look in his three eyes. With a loud roar Caleb leapt up into the sky. Before they knew what was happening, he was already flying away through the twilight sky.

“What the hell was that!” Cara cried out once she regained her wits.

“He, Caleb…turned into a dragon?” Maryana was shaking her head.

Vexena let out a deep sigh. “I think we all know who is responsible for this.”

“You think Lucrezia, Lyrvarrith, whatever she calls herself did this to him?” Cara asked.

“It may not have been intentional.” Vexena picked up what remained of Caleb’s discarded dinner. “There are stories about dragon essence affecting the more…reasonably sized races. And let’s be honest, those two spent a night swapping essence with each other. Not to mention he’s flying back the way we came.”

Cara rubbed her forehead. “What do we do?”

“This late in the day, we can’t do anything besides get some rest so we can pack up and head back down the road tomorrow at first light.” Vexena said with a heavy resignation.

“And then we take back our Caleb.” Maryana crossed her arms with a determined look in her golden eyes.

In the sky Caleb beat his powerful white wings. He was covering the same distance in minutes that had taken hours to walk, but his mind wasn’t thinking about his speed. There was only one thing on his mind, and that was finding the nearest dragon and mating with her. He could feel the presence of a female dragon directly ahead and he flew towards her like an arrow towards a target.

***

Lady Lucrezia sat in her personal study. It was several floors up and had a balcony that looked out over the town of Eggans. The glass doors were shut tightly and the Lady mayor’s attention was not on the night sky. It was instead focused on her massive desk.

One half was covered with trade agreements while the other was covered with food, a light supper by her standards. She was not alone, Aida was there to both discuss the trade agreements and move food and plates between the desk and a large cart.

Lucrezia tapped a sheaf of papers hard enough that her nail left a small hole in the top of several pages.

“This merchant is crazy if he thinks I’d agree to such a lopsided agreement. He didn’t even have the decency to try and bribe me.”

Aida placed an empty plate onto the cart. “Would that have helped, my lady?”

“It would have gotten me to give him a second chance to make his offer.” She picked up the papers and handed them to Aida, “Write up the diplomatic equivalent of ‘sod off’ and I’ll sign it in the morning.” Lucrezia reached over for a roast. In a very non-lady like manner, she tore a piece off with her teeth.

“Yes ma’am.”

Lucrezia washed down the meat with a large gulp of wine. “Moving on we have…” She trailed off her eyes lifting from the papers spread out on her desk to the glass doors of her balcony.

“Lady?”

“Get down!” Lucrezia reached over her desk and with her powerful arm grabbed Aida. The woman let out a yelp as she was lifted over the top of the desk and deposited on the other side by her mistress. Then there came the crash as something burst through the glass doors of the balcony.

Lucrezia stared in disbelief at what was standing in her study. She would have recognized the polymorphed form of Caleb instantly by the trio of eyes alone. What was more interesting to her was why he had returned to that form after the spell had expired from their romp days ago. Caleb locked eyes with her and growled as he started to approach the mayor.

“Aida, it would be best if you leave, I don’t want you getting hurt.” As Lucrezia started to walk out from behind her desk, her warm brown eyes shifted to a golden color and the whites of her eyes swirled to black.

“Y-yes, my Lady.” he tried to keep calm as she backed away.

“Oh, and do be a dear and make arrangements to get the balcony door repaired as quickly as possible.” Her body was increasing in size and strength as dark red scales covered her body.

Aida managed a nod before she hurried out of the room.

She flicked off the ruined remains of another pair of shoes off from her three-toed reptilian feet and flexed her claws. “I really should invest in some enchanted footwear.” She said aloud, but it was meant as a reminder to herself. Her dress grew to handle her increased proportions, not the least of which was her chest. “I didn’t expect to see you so soon again, Caleb, and certainly not in such a handsome appearance.” Her wide smile stretched as her face grew out into a muzzle full of sharp teeth. Sprouting up through her hair a pair of black horns pushed out and curved back. “And it is a bit rude to come crashing through a lady’s window.” Her powerful tail flicked back and forth as it reached its full length.

Caleb was wordless as he closed the distance between them. With a growl he grabbed Lyrvarrith tightly, pulling them both into a tight embrace. Even with her larger size, the dragoness was impressed by his strength this time, but was more curious than threatened.

“And just what do you plan on doing to me, little whelp?”

Caleb grabbed the bodice of her dress and tore it open.

“I see, no pretty words for me first?”

Her answer was Caleb’s mouth clamping down on her nipple. Lyrvarrith let out a gasp, but she smiled. She was a dragon, she could handle rough. She ran her claws down the middle of his back between his wings, and he responded by growling against her chest and squeezing her tighter.

“Might as well let you get this out of your system first.” She didn't sound overly bothered by the prospect.

Caleb’s claws ripped and tore through the dress. He then flipped her around and bent Lyrvarrith over her own desk. He roughly lifted her tail before forcing himself into her. Lyrvarrith’s claws gouged her desk deeply as he plowed her. She knew that as a real dragon Lyrvarrith could end Caleb in dozens of ways, but there were other concerns.

This is as strong as he gets, but my might might as well be infinite next to him. But, If I tap into my true abilities, my form would grow to match. That would mean far more than just a wrecked study. I’d probably level the entire manor. Worse yet, my centuries long secret would be revealed. Oh, and Aida and my other servants would probably be killed. It’s such a pain to find good servants.

Realizing what tapping into her true power would do, Lyrvarrith decided to let Caleb have his way with her, as long as her life wasn’t threatened. At least his raw animalistic actions were turning the dragoness on more than she had been in centuries. She wrapped her tail tightly around his waist as he thrust with all his might.

He was more of a beast than man or dragon. He was possessed by his lust and need to mate with a dragon. Caleb showed no restraint as his claws raked against the dark red scales of the dragoness. This was, however, something that Lyrvarrith hadn’t realized she had been missing. She let her own more primal nature take over as she continued to destroy her desk. The documents and food were cast off to the floor as she thrashed from the exquisite pleasure. Caleb sized her body tightly and bit down as hard as he could on her shoulder.

The world went white for Lyrvarrith as she was pushed well over the edge. The desk splintered underneath her and they both tumbled onto the floor, but neither one cared. Caleb was still holding her tightly as she came back into the fully waking world. She let out a sigh along with a few wisps of smoke.

“And I thought you were good the last time.” She chuckled. “Good thing you’re not a real dragon or I would definitely have a clutch of eggs to worry about.”

Caleb stirred, but he didn’t speak, He instead nuzzled and caressed Lyrvarrith scales. Also from what she could feel inside her body, he was still hard as a rock. She had a feeling this unplanned encounter wasn’t done just yet. And that only made her smile.

“If you’re not done, you better continue, we’ll need to burn off that excess energy if I am going to change you back.”

He reached around and started to squeeze and kneed her chest. Amongst the debris of the desk the pair curled and shifted until they found themselves in a new position. Now that he was on top of Lyrvarrith, Caleb pinned her arms down at her sides. She struggled at first, but she couldn’t budge. Lyrvarrith let out a laugh and saved her ego by playing along.

He started a bit slower this time, but each stroke was smooth and powerful. Lyrvarrith let out a rumbling almost purr as she clenched her lower body around the draconic shaft. Caleb’s grip on her wrists tightened in response as he forced his way through the narrowed passage. He was more than just determined, it was as if his life depended on breeding the dragoness. Caleb was already a strong man, and the transformation only heightened his strength and endurance. Add that to a lust-addled brain and there was no holding back.

Lyrvarrith was enjoying every second of it. She had no fear of being hurt, after all she was a dragon and dragons were built to take it rough. She let her partner have his way with her, not that she really had a choice in her current form. Before long Lyrvarrith wasn't in any state to really care about it. She was getting louder with every thrust into her well worked pussy. Moaning and growling along with her partner. She threw back her head and let out a roar loud enough to shake the bookshelves in her study as she came even harder than the first time.

The dragoness managed to contain any fire leaving her mouth, but plenty of smoke escaped her muzzle. Her eyes fluttered open to see Caleb panting hard before collapsing down on her body, with his head landing in between her breasts. She slowly stroked his scales as she recovered.

I hope that was enough for him. Hmm, I might even be a little sore in the morning myself. She smiled before starting to move. What a mess. She thought as she took in the state of both her body and her study. Well, it was worth it.

Lyrvarrith carefully moved Caleb’s passed out body to the middle of the room and laid him out on his back.

“Now, let’s see if I can get you back to normal.” She rummaged around in a cabinet and produced a large clear crystal. “Your fae heritage must have reacted with my own aura and the polymorph spell. And to be fair I doubt our bit of fun just now will be helping much either.”

With the crystal in one clawed hand she started to chant in her own ancient language. Magical runes were traced into the air with her free hand and they started to glow. She continued to chant as she placed the crystal on his chest. Thin bands of ethereal energy flowed from Caleb’s body into the now glowing crystal. As they flowed he slowly started to lose his draconic features. His wings and tail shrunk back into nothing and the white scales gave way to his original skin.

The energy stopped flowing once the crystal was filled and Lyrvarrith ended her chanting. Caleb had returned to normal, or at least mostly. He was left with discolored skin where the peach colored scales had been. To the untrained eye they resembled tattoos. Lyrvarrith wasn’t completely sure, but she thought Caleb might be slightly bigger than when they first met. There was also a possibility of changes that couldn’t be seen on the outside. But in total, compared to his third eye, these changes were barely noticeable.

“Good enough.” She reached down and retrieved the crystal. It now had a swirling white cloud contained inside. “Hmm, I think I’ll keep this as a little souvenir. I know just the place for it in my hoard. But first I’ll need to take care of the mess.”

She shifted her form to that of Lucrezia. A simple spell cleaned up the mess the pair had made in their lovemaking. She was just starting to gather the scattered documents when there was a soft knock at the door.

“Lady Cason? Are you alright?” Aida called softly from the other side of the door.

Lucrezia walked over to the door and opened it slightly. As a dragon, she had no issues with her bare body in any form. Aida was used to this, at least when her mistress was in her human looking form.

“Yes, we’re fine here, mostly. I will need a new dress and perhaps a blanket for our unexpected guest here.”

Aida looked around her mistress and saw Caleb in his current state. “Should I prepare a room for him?”

“Hmmm, as much as I’d enjoy the company in my bed, it may be for the best. Oh, and I will need a new desk.”

“Yes, I can see that. I will retrieve your dress and see that everything else is cleaned up.”

“Thank you, dear.”

***

Maryana, Cara, and Vexena were walking at a hurried pace. They were silent, saving their breath for the road on the way back to Eggans. Vexena was focused on the road ahead, which is why she was able to detect a sudden magical flux ahead of them on the road.

“Hold up! Stop!” She shouted to her companions.

Maryana and Cara were confused but came to a stop. Before either could ask what was happening there was a sudden flash, brighter than the sun in the middle of the road.

“Spirits!” Maryana shouted as she shielded her eyes.

“What the hell?” Cara called out as she did the same.

The flash faded into a bright swirling portal. Lucrezia stepped out from out of the shimmering doorway, followed by a rather embarrassed looking Caleb.

“Caleb!” Maryana shouted and ran to his side, quickly followed by Cara and Vexena.

They all embraced him tightly. Caleb could feel the worry in their strong arms.

“I’m alright, I’m sorry about last night.” Caleb said softly as he returned the embraces.

Vexena turned to the lady mayor. “Do you know what caused this?”

“It was a little unplanned magical interaction. The fae blood in your friend does more than just give him three eyes.”

“I’m aware.” Vexena, glanced down at her muscular arms. “Could you give us more details?”

“A little spell I had cast on Caleb during our first, ahem, encounter had some lingering effects. It was probably further affected by my own aura. Normally the spell would have dissipated with barely a trace after it ended, but…” She shrugged. “These things happen sometimes. Caleb really should be more aware of his nature”

Caleb sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

“Will it happen again?” Maryana asked.

“Will he turn into a dragon, crash into my study, and ravish me again?” She paused to smile widely. “Probably not.”

Caleb covered his face with his hand. “You didn’t have to say it like that.”

Lucrezia made a dismissive gesture. “Don’t worry, he couldn’t have really hurt me. I had everything under control”

“That isn’t what we are worried about.” Cara said, crossing her arms.

“I let him get it out of his system before purging his body as best as I could of my influence. However, I think he should be careful with shape shifting magic or laying with powerful beings, like myself, in the future. It could reawaken certain aspects that both Caleb and you three may not be able to handle. But then again, you are hardly weak as far as lesser beings go. Take the warning however you wish.”

“We understand.” Vexena replied in a flat tone.

“I apologize, I didn’t see this coming when we struck our original deal. But I’ve brought Caleb back to you, freshly cleaned and in a new set of clothes to boot.”

“You know,” Cara uncrossed her arms and stepped towards Lucrezia, “we lost a day’s travel from the first time you fooled around with him, and we spent almost half a day backtracking because of this.”

“Ah, you want compensation for your troubles, is that it?” She smirked.

“More so transportation. How about a portal to get us to Chayathana?” The thief motioned in the general direction of the city.

Lucrezia shook her head. “Cities don’t like portals being open inside them. Any sane lord has seals and wards against such magic.”

“Alright, but could you drop us off close to Chayathana then?” Cara tilted her head slightly.

Lucrezia tapped her chin with her finger as she considered the request. “I suppose I could. It will take me a few moments to prepare the spell.”

“That’s fine, it will give us time to redistribute Caleb’s gear back to him.” She gestured to her back. “Lugging around his armor and sword alone is a pain.”

Lucrezia chuckled. “Maybe you four should look into getting a cart or something. I’ll start my preparations while you sort things out with Caleb.”

Cara and Vexena saw to repacking Caleb’s gear into his pack, while Maryana helped him into his armored coat.

“Good thing you were just in your tunic last night.” She said as he slipped his arms in.

“A small bit of luck, at least.” He let out a long sigh. “I’m sorry I left you behind last night, I wasn’t really thinking. I barely remember anything before waking up this morning.”

“It probably was for the best. Cara said as she handed Caleb his massive sword. “You might have gotten out of hand if you relieved yourself with the three of us.”

“That’s true.” Vexena said with a sigh. “As full of herself as she is, a real dragon probably could have easily crushed you if she wasn’t in the mood. Still, you were certainly impressive in that draconic body.”

Caleb shouldered his pack and adjusted the straps until everything felt right. “As much of an adventure as this turned out to be, I’m content to stay in my own form moving forward.”

“Alright, you four. Just step through the portal. It should drop you off around a day’s travel from the city. I hope that will put you back on schedule.”

“I think so, yes.” Caleb said as he started to walk towards the portal with his companions.

“I would invite you to come visit me again, but since that would probably be a bad thing, I will just wish you well on your travels. Have fun!”

Caleb nodded and they stepped though the portal. There was a brief instant of nothingness and then they exited on the other side. They were at the edge of a forest, the land just starting to open up into rolling plains.

“So, Caleb,” Cara said as she drew up alongside him, “are you up for a full day’s travel? Or does the Dragon Layer need to take it slow?”

The other two laughed while Caleb sighed heavily.

“I’m fine, and could use the exercise. It will take my mind off of things.” He replied before moving forward on the road.

“Speaking of walking,” Maryana matched their pace, “maybe Lucrezia was right and we should look into a wagon or something.”

“If our packs get much heavier that may be a good idea.” Cara said, adjusting the straps of her pack. “What draft animals should we go for, oxen or horses?”

Caleb sighed. “Let’s wait until after we finish in Chayathana first.”

***

The road was easy, and soon they came across other travelers and caravans heading towards the city. By the time the sun was starting to set they could see the city walls in the distance. They decided to stop in a nearby village and found their way to a tavern that was full of fellow adventurers. Even when surrounded by fellow adventurers, the party stood out. They got curious looks from everyone as they sat down at an unoccupied table.

The barmaid seemed a little flustered as she took their orders, but she had calmed down a bit by the time she returned with a tray full of drinks and a pitcher of ale. Caleb noticed she had particular eyes for Cara. The thief, of course, flirted with the young woman as they ordered a meal. They relaxed after a long day’s walk, sharing drinks and waiting for the meal to be brought out.

“From the looks of things and what I’m hearing, The Baron is still recruiting adventures for his mission.” Caleb said before taking a long drink.

“So, we’re not too late then. Good.” Vexena took a sip of her ale. “I think I’m getting used to this drink.”

“You really should try wine next time you get a chance.” Cara suggested. “I should have grabbed a few bottles from that feast while I had the chance.”

“It doesn’t seem to be stopping you from guzzling down your ale any.” Maryana smirked as she refiled Cara’s leather mug and her own from the pitcher.

“Just keep her away from the spirits, we all need to be nice and sober in the morning.” Caleb said as he took the pitcher from Maryana.

“Ah, you’re no fun.” Cara said before cracking a smile and laughing. “I’ll wait until after we get paid, I promise.”

“And we’ll be sure to keep you to it.” Caleb smirked.
