Patch Party is back, and this time it’s Boys Night.

Mark Chen came to college expecting bad coffee, bad sleep, and maybe the occasional stress-induced breakdown over Philosophy homework. What he did not expect was an otter roommate who’s hot, smug, flexible, and apparently fully dedicated to ruining his week in the most confusing way possible. Mark is now armed with denial, awful logic, and the kind of confidence only a deeply panicking straight guy can manufacture under pressure.

You do not need to read the earlier Patch Party stories to jump into this one. This is a fresh starting point, and part one of a two-part disaster. Expect roommates, chaos, gay panic, bad decisions, and Mark doing everything in his power to prove that this is all still somehow completely straight.

Patch Party: Boys Night

Too Straight to Be Gay

So here's the thing about college they don't tell you at orientation: your roommate is going to be weird. Not weird like "collects vintage spoons" weird or "sleeps with socks on" weird. No, Mark's particular brand of roommate weirdness involved walking through the door of room 214B on a Tuesday evening, backpack full of Intro to Philosophy notes, only to find his otter roommate bent in half on the communal sofa with his own dick in his mouth.

Mark froze. His keys jangled against his thigh. His brain did that thing where it tried to process visual information and just... buffered.

Oli was folded up like a lawn chair someone had sat on wrong; his thin, sleek body curved in a way that should have violated at least three laws of vertebrate anatomy. His webbed feet were planted on the armrest, his rudder-like tail draped over the cushion, and his muzzle was wrapped around his own slick pink cock with the casual ease of someone enjoying a popsicle on a summer afternoon.

The wet, rhythmic sounds hit Mark's ears about half a second after the visual registered.

"Dude," Mark said, his voice cracking in a way it hadn't since sophomore year of high school. He spun around, facing his side of the dorm, which, given the room was roughly the size of a walk-in closet, meant he was now staring at a cinderblock wall approximately six feet away. Very helpful. Very much still able to hear everything. "That is so gay."

Behind him, there was a soft, wet pop. A pause. Then Oli's voice, slightly hoarse: "How is it any gayer than using a hand?"

Mark opened his mouth. Closed it. Opened it again. He looked like a fish someone had tossed onto a dock. He would later be grateful there was no mirror on his side of the room to confirm this.

"Because..." he started.

Another wet sound. Oli had gone back to it; mid-conversation. Between sucks, the otter added, all muffled and matter-of-fact, "Seriously though. Same equipment. Same goal. Just a different... delivery method."

"Because you have a cock in your mouth!" Mark said to the wall, gesturing with both hands at nothing.

Oli didn't even stop this time. "It'sh my cock," he replied, the words distorted around what was very obviously still occupying his mouth. "Mmph... you're jusht jealous your shmall human body isn't built for shelf pleasure."

Mark facepalmed. His glasses pressed painfully into the bridge of his nose. He stood there, palm mashed against his face, and tried very hard not to think about whether Oli had a point.

He wasn't jealous. Obviously. That was ridiculous.

Except.

His brain, that traitorous, philosophy-addled brain, started doing the thing. The analytical thing. If he could bend like that, would he? The only action that ever happened down there was courtesy of his right hand and the occasional left when he wanted to feel adventurous. Mark's love life, for the record, was a barren wasteland that made the Sahara look like a water park. He'd seen some of the other anthro students on campus; the cats, the foxes, that one freakishly limber ferret in his Econ class; and more than a few of them had hinted at similar... capabilities. If he had that kind of flexibility, would he really be any different?

The image bloomed in his mind before he could stop it: himself, folded over, mouth meeting...

Nope. Nope.

He shook his head hard enough to make his glasses slide down his nose. He pushed them back up with one finger, grabbed the rail of the bunk bed, and hauled himself up to the top mattress with all the grace of a baby giraffe navigating an escalator. His elbow banged the ceiling. His knee found the one spot on the frame that was missing its rubber cap.

He pulled the thin campus-issued blanket over his head and stared at the popcorn ceiling approximately 4 feet from his face.

Below him, the sounds continued. Wet, rhythmic, and utterly shameless. A steady tempo; like a metronome tuned to the frequency of self-debauchery.

Slck. Slck. Slck.

Mark pressed the pillow over his ears.

It didn't help.

He lay there in the dark, glasses still on because taking them off felt like admitting he was actually trying to sleep through this, and thought about literally anything else. Philosophy. Descartes. I think, therefore I am. Well, Descartes never had to share a twelve-by-fourteen room with an autofellating otter, so what the hell did he know about the nature of existence?

The sounds below shifted; faster now, a little breathier.

Mark squeezed his eyes shut and started mentally reciting the Periodic Table.

Hydrogen. Helium. Lithium. Beryllium.

Slck. Slck. Slck.

Boron. Carbon. Nitrogen. Oxygen.

His body was betraying him. That was the only explanation. Some sort of Pavlovian response, a misfiring of neurons, a...

He was hard. Like, embarrassingly, painfully, tent-the-blanket hard.

Mark stared at the ceiling and hated everything. Hated the thin walls, hated the acoustics of cinderblock, hated that his roommate had apparently discovered the cheat code to human, well, otter sexuality and was treating it like a casual Tuesday evening hobby. It was, technically, a Tuesday evening. That somehow made it worse.

He shifted his hips, trying to find a position where his erection wasn’t pressing against his zipper like it was trying to escape. He was still wearing khakis. Taking his pants off would have implied intent, and intent felt uncomfortably gay.

I’m not gay, he told himself, with the kind of grim conviction normally reserved for court testimony. This was a physiological response to auditory stimuli. The human body responded to sexual sounds regardless of context. There were studies on that. Probably. He’d look them up later. He would absolutely not look them up later.

He was just rock hard. Listening to his roommate suck his own cock. That was all. Perfectly straight. Nothing to see here. Just a normal heterosexual guy with a raging boner and the mental image of a pink otter cock disappearing into a muzzle playing on repeat behind his eyelids like the world's most confusing screensaver.

Fluorine. Neon. Sodium. Magnesium.

Slck. Slck. Sl...

The sounds stopped.

Mark's whole body went rigid. Well. More rigid. He held his breath without meaning to, ears straining in the sudden silence. A soft, satisfied sigh drifted up from below. The creak of the sofa springs releasing. A rustle.

Thank God. Oli had finished. It was over. Mark could now spend the next six to eight hours lying perfectly still, willing his erection away through sheer force of academic willpower, and then transfer to a different dorm in the morning. Maybe a different college. Maybe a different state.

He exhaled. His shoulders started to unclench.

Then the bunk bed shifted.

It was subtle at first, just the faint groan of the metal frame, the kind the bed made when someone bumped it in passing. Then came the unmistakable shift of weight on his mattress, right at the foot of the bed.

Mark’s eyes flew open. They’d been closed? When had he closed them?

Something warm and lithe slid between his legs, slow and deliberate. The blanket lifted and shifted as a body, thin, furred, unmistakably Oli-shaped, moved up the mattress with the fluid grace of something that belonged as much to water as land. Mark felt the press of a narrow chest against his inner thighs, the brush of slick fur against his khakis, the weight settling right there between his legs, and his brain screamed at him to say something, do something, anything.

Then came the pause. Long, terrible, electric. Mark could feel hot breath seeping through the fabric of his pants, right over the shameless outline of his erection.

Then Oli’s paws, deft, small, disturbingly competent, found his zipper.

"Oli, what the..."

Oli’s paws moved with brisk, practiced efficiency, tugging Mark’s zipper down, yanking khakis and briefs just low enough to free his cock before the otter’s mouth closed over him.

What came out of Mark’s throat was not a protest. It was not a philosophical objection. It was not even a word. It was a sound that started somewhere around his solar plexus and tore loose as a low, shuddering moan he would have been ashamed of if shame were still a functional part of his operating system. It was not. His operating system had crashed. Blue screen. Fatal error. Reboot pending.

Oli’s muzzle was warm, wet, and impossibly skilled, which made sense, Mark’s traitorous brain supplied, because the otter had literally been practicing on himself not even five minutes ago. The long snout let him take more of Mark than he had been remotely prepared for, and the tongue was doing things that made coherent thought pack its bags and leave.

“Oh... oh fuck...” Mark’s hand found the back of Oli’s head without his permission. His fingers sank into sleek, soft fur. His hips bucked up on pure instinct, and Oli took it like it was nothing, adjusting with a low hum that vibrated through Mark’s entire lower body.

The otter set a pace that was lazy and devastating. Long, slow pulls with that narrow muzzle, tongue working the underside, then a swirl at the tip that made Mark’s vision go white at the edges. He could not have focused on the room if his life had depended on it. Every nerve ending in his body had migrated south and set up permanent residence.

He was close. Embarrassingly, catastrophically close. His thighs were shaking. His abs were clenched so tight they ached. The heat was building at the base of his spine like a wave cresting, and he was right there, right at the edge...

Oli pulled off with a wet pop.

The cool dorm air hit Mark's slick cock and he actually whimpered. A full, unironic whimper. From a grown man. In a university setting.

"Wh... why did you..." Mark panted, propping himself up on his elbows. His glasses were fogged. Through the haze, he could make out Oli's shape in the dim light; the otter had turned around on the narrow mattress, his sleek back arched, tail lifted and swayed to one side. He looked over his shoulder with those dark, glinting eyes and a grin that showed every one of his sharp little teeth.

"Quick question," Oli said, his voice infuriatingly casual for someone who had just deep-throated his roommate on a Tuesday. He wiggled his hips once, and the whole view shifted with it: the soft curve of his ass, the tail held high, the twitch of his hole, and beneath it all that pink tapered shaft dangling straight down. "Would this be gay?"

Mark stared at him. At the round curve of those parted cheeks. At the lifted tail. At the thick cock hanging beneath that shameless presentation like the final detail in a composition already engineered to destroy his self-control. At the invitation, blatant and outrageous and utterly impossible to misread.

His brain tried one last time. A feeble spark from the philosophy department: The unexamined life is not worth living.

Yeah, well, Socrates never had to deal with this.

Mark grabbed Oli's hips with both hands and thrust forward.

The otter let out a chittering gasp that dissolved into a groan, his claws catching in the bedsheet. The fabric bunched and twisted under his grip. Mark didn't care about anything except the heat and pressure and the impossible tight, slick pull of Oli's body taking him in. The way the otter's back arched. The little tremor that ran through his thighs.

"Oh fuck," Mark breathed, and it came out reverent, almost awed, like he'd just solved a proof that had been bothering him for years.

"There it is," Oli panted, his tail slapping against Mark's stomach. "Welcome to... ah... the flexible side."

The bunk bed creaked. Then it creaked louder. Then it began a rhythmic protest that sounded, Mark thought distantly, not entirely unlike a metronome.

(Somewhere in room 215B, their neighbor put in earbuds and turned the volume all the way up.)

Mark found a rhythm that his body apparently already knew, even if his conscious mind was still buffering. Each thrust drew a sound from Oli, a chirp, a hiss, a breathless little laugh, and each sound sent a jolt straight through Mark's hindbrain like a reward signal. His fingers dug into the otter's narrow hips, thumbs pressing into the divots where sleek fur gave way to the warm skin beneath. Oli pushed back to meet him, and the slap of contact echoed off sheetrock walls that had never been designed for this kind of acoustics.

"For the... nnh... record," Mark managed between thrusts, "this doesn't... this isn't..."

"Gay?" Oli supplied helpfully, his voice hitching as Mark hit a particular angle that made his whole body tense. "Deeper. And buddy, you are balls deep in your male roommate. I think we're past the... oh right there... past the semantic debate."

Mark wanted to argue. He really did. He had a counterpoint ready, something about situational flexibility and the Kinsey scale and how one experience didn't define...

Oli clenched around him and every thought in Mark's head evaporated like water on a hot skillet.

"Fuck," he said again, because apparently that was his entire vocabulary now. His hips snapped forward, harder, and the bunk bed hit the wall with a dull thud that knocked his Philosophy 101 textbook off the shelf above. It landed on the floor with a heavy whump that neither of them acknowledged.

(Descartes would have had thoughts about this. Though probably not useful ones.)

Oli’s tail lashed and flicked against Mark’s abs, each sharp snap hitting in perfect time with the pace Mark was pounding into him. It should have thrown him off. Instead it only made everything better, folding into the tight, slick heat gripping his cock and driving him faster. The more he thrust, the more pleasure it wrung out of him, and the more he leaked, his own pre-cum making every snap of his hips slicker, quicker, nastier than the last. Mark’s hands kept sliding in Oli’s fur until the whole room seemed to squeeze tight around them. There was only Oli, the pressure, and the helpless, filthy rhythm of his body taking more.

He shifted his grip higher, one hand braced along Oli’s back as the otter arched into him with a helpless little shudder. The movement sent another tight pull through Mark that nearly scrambled his thoughts all over again. Oli made a sound then, not a groan this time but a thin, trembling whine that went straight through Mark’s spine and hit somewhere deep, somewhere stupidly primal, and his next thrust came harder for it.

"You're..." Mark started, but words were a bad interface for what was happening to him. He lost the thread entirely when Oli rolled his hips back, changing the angle just so, and Mark forgot his own last name for a solid three seconds. He saw spots. "Jesus Christ," he blurted, barely above a whisper, like it was a prayer.

"Not my name," Oli replied, voice shaking but still smug as fuck. It was honestly impressive, getting railed into next Tuesday on a twin XL bunk and still finding the breath to banter. "But I appreciate the... mmph... the enthusiasm."

Mark had a sudden, stupid urge to one-up him. His hand slid lower, following the line of Oli’s spine until he found the base of his tail. He had not expected it to be so substantial. Thick there, all solid muscle under soft, warm fur, it felt almost startlingly sturdy when he wrapped his fingers around it, more like grabbing someone’s wrist than anything that should have twitched like that under his hand.

Oli went dead still. The constant wriggling, the smartass commentary, the laughter, all of it cut out at once. His legs locked. His claws bit furrows into the fitted sheet. Even his breathing caught short.

"Oh," Mark said.

Just one dumb syllable, thick with wonder, like he’d stumbled onto a cheat code.

He tightened his grip and pulled, just enough to make the point.

Oli's response was a sound that shouldn't have come from a mammal. It was part bird-of-prey, part modem startup sequence, part something Mark had only ever heard in the background of disturbing nature documentaries. The otter's back bowed so violently, Mark worried he might actually snap in half, but instead he just pushed his hips back harder. Mark had to lean forward to keep up, scrabbling for purchase, then thrust in deep, hand still locked around that tail.

"Do that again," Oli said. No jokes, no snark, just three brutal, honest words punched out like a demand. "Mark. Please."

Mark felt the moment land somewhere deep and strange. The knowledge that he, Mark of all people, could do this to someone. Could unravel him that completely just by knowing where to touch and how hard to hold on. He had never felt anything like that before. Power, maybe. Or maybe something hotter and more dangerous, the dizzying thrill of being wanted that badly. It made something in his chest tighten, then burn, then ache for more.

He did it again, squeezed, twisted, and drove into him with a force he would have been mortified to admit he had.

Oli came instantly, all at once and everywhere, like a string of fireworks had gone off inside him. The ripples were visible, muscles jerking and twitching all down his back, his muzzle smashed into the mattress as he let out a frantic, high-pitched wail. Mark felt himself being gripped, squeezed in pulses that left him gasping. Somewhere in the chaos, his glasses were knocked off and lost to the bedding. He could not look away. Not from the shuddering otter, not from the glossy pink cock spraying thick, ropy spurts across the ruined bedding, not from the hands that had ripped straight through the fitted sheet as if it were tissue. He looked down at his own body, still fully dressed from the waist up, khakis and briefs bunched halfway down his thighs, rutting into the most beautifully depraved thing he had ever seen.

And that was the moment he realized he was coming too.

It started as a white-hot wave at the base of his spine, then spread in a flood up his torso, out through his fingers and toes, everywhere. He had absolutely no warning, no buildup, no grace period. One second he was a person, the next he was nothing but the raw, pounding pulse of orgasm. He came, and came again, and kept coming, each twitch in Oli’s body milking another pulse out of him, and it felt so good, so impossibly good, it almost hurt. He could feel it pumping out of him into the clutching, spasming tightness, and even as his brain started to melt, he knew with a cold, clinical certainty that this was it. His first time. His virginity, gone. It was not at all the way he had pictured it, awkward, complicated, messy as hell, but it was also perfect somehow. Better than the scripts in his head, better than what he had built up on lonely nights with only his hand and a laptop for company.

(Well, it was with an otter-boy. An autofellating, infuriating, tail-freak otter with a PhD in ruining Mark’s expectations. That was a detail for future Mark to process. Present Mark was busy being milked dry and held in place by the steady, shuddering clamp of a very satisfied roommate.)

The wave crested, then held, then built again, each aftershock wringing another helpless little moan out of him. His fingers dug hard into Oli’s hips. The bed frame shrieked with every impact, surely audible to half the fucking floor. He was too busy filling the twitching otter with everything he had, world narrowed to that one sweet, agonizing point of contact.

When the last of it wrung out of him, his arms and legs gave up entirely. He slumped forward, landing full-length and heavy on top of Oli, face buried in the space between the otter's shoulder blades. The smell there was river water and salt, sharp and clean and somehow still animal, and Mark breathed it in like he'd been holding his breath all his life until right this second.

Time passed. No way to tell how much. The mattress slowly stilled. The only noise was their shared panting and the low, ambient hum of the dorm's HVAC, which had apparently decided to run full blast in the aftermath of disaster.

Mark's brain came back online in stages. First: the physical. He was sticky, so sticky, and there was a weird cold spot where the sweat was already evaporating from his skin. His shirt stuck uncomfortably to his back, and his pants were twisted at a level that would take a crowbar to fix. He was still inside Oli, and the feeling was... he didn't have a word for it, but it made his skin prickle with awkward, wild energy.

Second: spatial awareness. He was stretched out on the top bunk, somehow not dead or broken despite what they'd just done to it. Oli's body was pinned underneath him, but the otter didn't seem to mind…his tail flicked lazily, content, as if nothing in the universe could move him now.

Third: existential terror. Oh, shit.

He'd lost his virginity. On a Tuesday night. In the top bunk. To his male otter roommate. He should feel regret, or at least panic, but instead there was a low, humming pride, like he'd finally passed a test he'd been dreading for years and come out the other side not only alive, but... transformed. He wasn't sure how, but he was sure it was true.

“So,” Oli said after a while, voice half-lost in the pillow he’d very recently been reduced to biting. His tail swayed and thumped gently against Mark’s thigh. “Still not gay?”

Mark groaned and tucked his face further into Oli's fur, desperate to hide from the world. He could feel every heartbeat, every aftershock, every little tremor still running through the otter's body. He could feel himself slowly, awkwardly softening, which made the whole thing even more intimate, more real.

"I'm having a crisis," Mark mumbled into the fur.

"Cool," Oli said. "Can you have it after you pull out? My spine does a lot of things, but supporting a whole human isn't one of them."

Mark pulled out. The sensation made both of them hiss. He rolled sideways and immediately regretted it, because the top bunk was not designed for side-by-side occupancy, and his shoulder blades were now hanging over the edge with nothing between him and a five-foot drop to the tile floor but optimism.

Oli turned over with that boneless fluidity, stretching out on his back like he was sunbathing on a riverbank. His fur was mussed. His eyes were half-lidded. He looked, Mark thought with mounting horror, good. Not good in the abstract, academic sense of "that is an aesthetically pleasing arrangement of features." Good in the way that made Mark's stomach do something warm and inconvenient.

"Stop spiraling," Oli said. "I can hear it."

"You can't hear someone spiral."

"Your breathing does this thing. Gets all shallow and fast. Like a hamster having a panic attack." Oli reached over and poked Mark's chest with one webbed finger. "Breathe, dude."

Mark breathed. The ceiling stared back at him, unchanged, indifferent to the fact that everything beneath it had fundamentally shifted. His Philosophy 101 textbook was on the floor. His fitted sheet was destroyed. His understanding of his own sexuality was in roughly the same condition.

“I need my glasses,” he said, because that felt like a manageable problem.

“They’re behind the pillow. Left side.”

Mark fished around and found them. One lens had a smudge on it. He put them on anyway, and the ceiling came into sharp, accusatory focus.

“For the record,” Oli said, stretching his arms above his head until something in his shoulder popped, “that was really good. Like, really good. The tail thing? Where did you even...”

“I don’t want to talk about the tail thing.”

“You’re going to want to talk about the tail thing eventually.”

(He was. Not tonight. But eventually.)

Mark pulled what remained of the blanket over both of them, an act that felt more intimate than anything they’d done in the last fifteen minutes, which was saying something, and stared at the ceiling. Oli curled against his side, warm and compact and smelling like sex and river water, and Mark’s arm went around him without consulting his brain first.

“Tuesday,” he said to the ceiling.

“Hmm?”

“It’s Gay Tuesday, so it doesn’t count.”

There was a beat.

Oli’s whiskers twitched against Mark’s ribs. “I’m sorry, what?”

“Gay Tuesday,” Mark repeated, with the brittle confidence of a man building a legal defense out of dryer lint. “It’s a thing.”

“A thing where?”

“Online.”

“That is not a place.”

“I heard about it on YouTube,” Mark said. “Which is basically research.”

The otter stared at him for a long moment, visibly sorting through several possible responses before discarding all of them as not worth the energy. In the end, he just let out a slow breath and settled back against Mark’s side.

“You humans will make a label for anything,” Oli muttered.

Mark decided that counted as a win.

Above them, the ceiling remained blank, silent, and entirely unwilling to validate his argument. His heart was still beating too fast. His body still hummed with the aftershocks of whatever seismic event had just rearranged his interior landscape. He was lying in a ruined bed with an otter tucked against his side, and the Periodic Table was still scrolling through his head on autopilot, Aluminum, Silicon, Phosphorus, Sulfur, but it had lost its desperate, defensive quality. It was just background noise now. Elevator music for the post-orgasmic brain.

He’d deal with the rest of it tomorrow. The labels, the questions, the inevitable awkward eye contact over communal bathroom sinks. Tomorrow, he would think about what this meant, what he wanted, and whether the housing office accepted transfer requests filed under “slept with roommate, send help.”

Tonight, he was warm. Oli was warm. The bunk bed had stopped protesting.

That was enough.

(It was more than enough, actually. Mark just was not ready to admit that yet.)

~~*~~

By Friday, only two nights after Tuesday, Mark had not transferred dorms, not changed colleges, and not fled the state.

Thursday morning, Oli dropped a pen and bent to pick it up. His shorts, which were less “shorts” and more “a suggestion of fabric,” rode up over the curve of his ass, and Mark walked directly into the doorframe on his way to the bathroom. The impact left a red mark on his forehead that he told his Econ study group was from “a shelf.”

Thursday afternoon: Oli was cross-legged on the floor, laptop balanced on one knee, tail curled around his ankle. He stretched, arms overhead, back arching, that lean torso extending in a way that made his crop top ride up and expose a strip of pale belly fur. Mark stared at his Philosophy textbook for eleven minutes without reading a single word. He was on page 47. He'd been on page 47 since Tuesday.

Thursday evening: Oli reached for something on the top shelf of their shared closet. Stood on his toes. The shorts did their thing. His tail swayed for balance, and from Mark's angle on the bottom bunk, he'd relocated; the top bunk smelled like an accusation, the view was...

Mark shoved his face into his pillow and thought about the Peloponnesian War.

It didn't help.

Friday was worse.

Oli had apparently decided that the entire twelve-by-fourteen room was an obstacle course that required constant bending, reaching, and stretching. He dropped his phone. He dropped his keys. He dropped a single sock and somehow turned picking it up into a full yoga pose, his tail flagging high while he glanced over his shoulder with an expression that was either innocent curiosity or a war crime.

Mark was not looking.

He was absolutely, categorically not looking. He was reading. He was studying. He was a serious academic pursuing higher education, and he did not notice the way Oli's glutes, surprisingly round for an otter, almost feminine in their fullness, flexed when he bent at the waist instead of the knees. He did not notice. He was not looking.

(He was looking every single time.)

(Every. Single. Time.)

In his 10 AM Philosophy lecture on Friday, Professor Henderson was saying something about Hume's problem of induction, and Mark was nodding along like a functioning student while his brain projected a full IMAX screening of Oli's pink cock twitching untouched against ruined bedsheets. The way it had jerked in those long, wet pulses. The way Oli's body had clenched around him. The sound, that sound, high and broken and desperate...

"Mr. Chen? Your thoughts on the is-ought problem?"

Mark blinked. Thirty faces stared at him from the lecture hall.

"Uh," he said. "It's... problematic?"

Henderson gave him a look that suggested his participation grade was in critical condition.

The thing was, and Mark had been working on this with the kind of intellectual rigor he usually reserved for term papers, there were perfectly reasonable explanations for all of it. Proximity effect. That was a real thing. Spend enough time in close quarters with someone and your brain started forming attachments. Totally normal. Totally documented. Probably in a journal somewhere.

Or maybe it was the novelty factor. He'd never been with anyone before Tuesday. Of course his brain was fixating on the first sexual experience it had ever catalogued. It would have done the same thing if it had been anyone. The fact that it was a male otter was incidental. Coincidental. Irrelevant to the underlying neurological mechanism.

Or, and this was the one that kept him up at night, staring at the ceiling while Oli slept three feet below him, breathing in that slow, steady rhythm, maybe it was just that Oli was objectively attractive. Not in a "I'm attracted to him" way. In a detached, aesthetic appreciation way. The same way you could acknowledge that a sports car was well-designed without wanting to fuck the sports car.

Except Mark had fucked the otter. So the sports car metaphor was doing a lot of heavy lifting and not really getting anywhere.

He'd also started cataloguing, against his will and without his consent, the specific things about Oli's body that his brain kept circling back to. The list was growing at an alarming rate:

His ass. God, his ass. It had no business being that shape on an male. It was round and full and sat high on his hips, and when Oli walked it had this subtle side-to-side sway that was either natural otter locomotion or a targeted psychological attack.

The cock. Long, pink, tapered in a way that was distinctly not human, and Mark's brain had memorized every detail of it from the thirty seconds he'd seen it on Tuesday, both in Oli's mouth and later, jerking against the sheets while Mark was inside him. That image was seared into his mind like a brand.

The sounds. The whimpering. The way Oli had said Mark like it was the only word left in his vocabulary. The way he'd come apart, trembling and keening and...

Mark realized he was hard again. In the campus library. At 2 PM on a Friday. Surrounded by students.

He pressed his forehead against his Intro to Ethics textbook and seriously considered becoming a monk.

By that evening, his internal justification engine was running on fumes. He’d cycled through proximity effect, novelty response, aesthetic appreciation, temporary insanity, and a brief detour into maybe the dining hall had put something in the water. None of them held up under scrutiny. None of them explained why his pulse kicked up every time he heard Oli’s key in the lock, or why the smell of river water now made his stomach flip, or why he’d caught himself watching the otter towel off after a shower and had to physically turn toward the wall before his khakis betrayed him again.

He wasn’t sleeping, either. That was the other problem. For the past two nights he’d lain rigid on the top bunk, hyperaware of every rustle and shift from below, his body wired and restless and wanting something he refused to name. He’d gotten maybe six hours total since Tuesday. His eyes felt like someone had rolled them in sand. His thoughts had the jumpy, frayed quality of a caffeine overdose, except he hadn’t had coffee because the line at the campus Starbucks had an otter barista and Mark could not handle that right then.

By Friday evening, Mark was at his desk, laptop open to a blank Word document titled “Week 2 Response Paper - Epistemology.” The cursor blinked. He had typed nothing. Oli was somewhere behind him. Mark could track his position by sound alone now, which was either a survival skill or a symptom. The otter was doing something that involved a lot of rustling and the occasional hum of a pop song Mark didn’t recognize.

Then: the sound of fabric sliding over fur. A drawer opening. More rustling.

"Hey," Oli said.

Mark did not turn around. "Hey."

"You've been staring at that blank page for twenty minutes."

"I'm thinking."

"You've been 'thinking' for two days." A pause. The rustling stopped. "You know what I think?"

"I'm sure you'll tell me regardless."

"I think," Oli said, and Mark could hear the grin in his voice, that sharp little curl of amusement that preceded every comment designed to make Mark's brain short-circuit, "you've been checking out my ass."

Mark's fingers twitched on the keyboard. A string of random characters appeared in his response paper: dkjfhgkjd.

"I have not," he said, with the conviction of a man holding a lit match and denying the existence of fire.

"Thursday morning. I dropped my pen. You walked into the door."

"The door was in an unusual position."

"It's a door, Mark. It's been in the same position since they built the building." Oli's voice was closer now. Mark kept his eyes locked on the laptop screen. "Thursday afternoon. I stretched. You stared at your textbook upside down for ten minutes."

"It was not upside..." Mark glanced down at the textbook next to his laptop. It was, in fact, still upside down from Thursday. He flipped it over with studied casualness. "That proves nothing."

"this morning. I bent over to get my shoes. You made a noise."

"I did not make a noise."

"You made a little..." Oli made a sound in the back of his throat, something between a whimper and a sigh. It was disturbingly accurate. "Like that. Exactly like that."

Mark's ears burned. His neck burned. His entire circulatory system had apparently decided that his head was the priority and redirected all available blood northward. (Well. Almost all of it. Some of it was heading in the opposite direction, because his body had the loyalty of a mercenary.)

"That was, I was yawning," Mark said. "I'm tired. I haven't slept in two days because..."

"Because you're lying awake thinking about my ass?"

"Because you snore!"

"Otters don't snore, Mark. We chirp."

"Well, your chirping is keeping me up at night!"

Oli appeared in Mark's peripheral vision, leaning against the edge of the desk with his arms crossed. He'd changed into a tank top that was essentially two pieces of string connected by optimism, and a pair of shorts that Mark was increasingly certain had been manufactured for a much smaller animal. His tail swished behind him in slow, lazy arcs.

Mark kept his eyes on the laptop. The cursor blinked next to dkjfhgkjd.

"Okay," Oli said, and his tone shifted, still playful, but with an edge of something underneath. Something deliberate. "Let's try this a different way. You say you're straight."

"I am straight."

"Totally straight."

"Completely."

"The straightest guy in this room."

"The straightest guy in this room," Oli repeated, steamrolling right over the deflection, "who just happens to have fucked his male roommate on a Tuesday, and has spent the subsequent days staring at said roommate's ass like it contains the answers to his Epistemology paper."

"That is a gross mischaracterization of..."

"Prove it."

Mark blinked. He turned his head before he could stop himself, and there was Oli, close, grinning, those dark eyes glinting with something that looked an awful lot like a trap being sprung. "What?"

"Prove you're straight." Oli's tail flicked. "Come out with me tonight."

"Out where?"

"There's a Patch Party tonight. Boys' night."

Mark's brain snagged on the word like a sweater on a nail. "Boys' night. As in..."

"As in a party full of guys. Anthros, humans, whatever. Music, drinks, the whole thing." Oli tilted his head, and the overhead fluorescent caught the sleek line of his jaw. "Any straight guy would have zero problem going to a boys' night and not getting laid. Right? That's, like, the baseline expectation. You go, you hang out, you don't fuck anyone. Easiest thing in the world. For a straight guy."

Mark's mouth opened. The argument was right there, fully formed, logical, airtight. No straight person would voluntarily go to a boys' night at a Patch Party. That was like saying any sober person could hang out in a bar without drinking; technically true, but the framing was doing a lot of suspicious work. He could feel the words lining up on his tongue, ready to deploy.

But his brain, his stupid, sleep-deprived, six-hours-in-two-days brain, stuttered on the delivery. The words got tangled up with the image of Oli's grin, and the smell of river water, and the bone-deep exhaustion that had turned his higher reasoning into wet cardboard.

"And if I go," Mark heard himself say, like his mouth had started freelancing without management approval, "and I don't... what do I get?"

Oli's eyebrows rose. Both of them. His tail went still for half a second, the otter equivalent of a double-take, and then resumed its lazy swing. "What do you want?"

Mark's throat tightened. What he wanted was to stop feeling like his skin was on fire every time Oli walked past. What he wanted was eight consecutive hours of sleep. What he wanted was to go back to Monday, before any of this happened, when his biggest concern was whether his response paper was hitting the word count.

What his body wanted was something else entirely, and it was making its position known with the subtlety of a car alarm.

"Tuesday," Mark said. The word came out rough. He cleared his throat. "If I go to this thing. And I prove that I'm, that it was just a, that Tuesday was a one-time..."

"A fluke," Oli offered.

"A fluke. If I prove that, then you drop it. No more comments about my... looking. Which I wasn't doing."

"Sure." Oli nodded, magnanimous. "And?"

Mark swallowed. His mouth was dry. "And maybe. If I wanted. We could... do the Tuesday thing again."

He watched Oli's expression carefully for any sign of surprise, but the otter's face just did that thing, that slow, knowing curl at the corners of his mouth, like Mark had finally arrived at a conclusion Oli had reached two days ago.

"Let me get this straight," Oli said. "Pun intended. You want to go to a gay party to prove you're straight, and your reward for succeeding is... more gay sex."

Stated like that, it did have a certain logical inconsistency.

"It's not..." Mark's face was so hot he was worried about first-degree burns. "It was good, okay? Tuesday was, the thing is, it doesn't have to mean, look, people experiment. That's what college is for. It says so n the brochure. Somewhere. Probably."

"So your argument," Oli said slowly, savoring every syllable like he was unwrapping a candy bar, "is that you want to go to a party full of hot guys, prove you feel nothing, and then come home and fuck me as a reward for feeling nothing."

"When you say it like that..."

"There's no other way to say it, Mark. That's just what you said. With your mouth. Out loud. In the English language."

Mark's jaw worked. He had a rebuttal. He was sure he had a rebuttal. It was in there somewhere, buried under two days of sleep deprivation and the persistent, throbbing awareness that his dick was currently straining against his zipper like it was trying to raise its hand in class. Pick me. Pick me. I have thoughts on this matter.

"I don't think..." he started.

"Your boner thinks," Oli said, glancing down.

Mark looked down. His khakis had betrayed him with the enthusiasm of a defecting spy. The outline was unmistakable, an aggressive, almost ridge of fabric that no amount of creative leg-crossing was going to conceal. It was pointing at Oli like a compass needle finding north.

"That's, that's not..." Mark shifted in his chair, which accomplished nothing except making the chair squeak in a way that sounded vaguely obscene. "That's a physiological..."

"Response to auditory stimuli?" Oli finished. "Yeah, you used that one on Tuesday. Right before you grabbed my hips and..."

"Fine!" The word erupted out of Mark like a cork from a bottle. His hands slapped the desk. The laptop jumped. The cursor blinked next to dkjfhgkjd like a tiny, judgmental witness. "Fine. I'll go. I'll go to your stupid boys' night..."

"The venue's actually really nice. One of the corner suites gets used for it..."

"...and I'll prove that Tuesday was a fluke, and then we'll..." Mark's voice dropped, the last few words coming out in a mumble directed at the keyboard. "...figure out the other thing after."

"The other thing being sex."

"The other thing being, yes. That. If I want. Which I might not."

His cock twitched against his zipper, offering its dissenting opinion on the matter.

Oli pushed off the desk. "Great. Party starts at ten. I'll be back at nine," he added, already moving toward the door with that liquid, unhurried stride that Mark was absolutely not watching. "With your outfit."

Mark's chair swiveled a quarter turn before he caught himself. "My what?"

Oli paused with one hand on the doorknob and looked back over his shoulder, his grin going sharp. "Theme this week is twins."

The word landed in Mark's brain and just sat there, blinking.

"Twins," he repeated.

"Twins." Oli's tail flicked once, smug and lazy. "Patch Parties do themes. Last week was Jungle. Week before that was... actually, you don't want to know about the week before that."

Mark stared at him. "No."

"You agreed to come."

"I agreed to come to a party. I did not agree to come to a party dressed as your twin."

Oli's grin widened. "Don't worry. They're only catastrophically gay from, like, two angles. Max."

"That sentence means nothing."

“It means be ready by nine." The otter didn’t wait for a retort or reply, just sauntered out of the room with that same unhurried grace that had been driving Mark insane for days. Mark’s eyes followed the swing of his thick tail and thicker ass as he exited, completely against his own volition.

The moment the door shut behind him, Mark’s cock twitched angrily in his khakis, straining against the zipper like it was trying to chase after what had just left. He scowled down at it as if to reprimand his own anatomy.

"God," he muttered, "what have you gotten me into?"

His cock twitched again. Raged against his khakis, really, like a prisoner throwing itself against the bars. A damp spot had already bloomed on the front of the fabric, a dark little circle of precome that felt visible from space, or at least would have been visible to anyone who walked through the door right now. Mark glanced at the clock. Oli had said nine. It was not even eight yet.

More than an hour.

~~*~~

He had more than an hour to get this situation under control.

Mark looked down at his lap. The situation looked back at him, straining and insistent and completely uninterested in his emotional crisis.

"Okay," he said to his own erection. "Okay. Fine. We’re doing this. But it’s not... this is strategic. This is tactical. I’m going to a party full of guys in an hour, and I cannot show up like..." He gestured at himself. "...this. So this is a preemptive measure. A warm-up. Like stretching before a run."

His cock pulsed against the damp spot, unmoved by the pep talk.

Mark grabbed the laptop and dragged it onto his thighs. The blank Word document stared at him. dkjfhgkjd. He minimized it. Behind it was Chrome, and behind Chrome, in a tab he had very carefully not bookmarked but also very carefully not closed, was a page he’d stumbled across last night at approximately 2:47 AM during what he had classified in his own mind as "research."

It was a gallery. Of otter males. Anthro otter males, specifically, in various states of undress and athletic display. Some were swimming. Some were lounging. One was doing something with a towel that could charitably be called "drying off" and more accurately be called "soft-core pornography."

The tab was titled "Mustelid Anatomy - Visual Reference (Academic)."

It was not academic.

Mark had found it by typing "hung otter male physique" into Google at 2 AM with one hand, and if that wasn’t the straightest possible search query, he didn’t know what was. He’d been trying to understand, from a purely anatomical standpoint, why his brain kept fixating on certain physical features. It was comparative biology. Basically science.

He clicked the tab open.

A grid of images filled his screen. Sleek bodies, wet fur, compact muscle, tails in various states of curl and extension. Some of them were in swim trunks. Some were not. Mark’s throat went dry.

"Research," he whispered, and undid his zipper.

The relief was immediate and almost painful. His cock sprang free of the khakis like it had been held hostage and was making a break for freedom, flushed and hard and already slick at the tip. Mark wrapped his hand around it and hissed through his teeth.

He scrolled.

Not because he was looking for anything specific. He was just... browsing. Casually. The way anyone would browse a gallery of semi-nude otter men on a Friday evening while touching themselves. Standard Friday behavior. Nothing to report.

His hand started moving. Slow, tight strokes, his thumb catching the wetness at the head and spreading it down. On screen, a grey otter was posed mid-stretch, arms overhead, every line of his torso on display. Mark’s gaze tracked the image clinically. Objectively. The otter had nice definition in his obliques. That was just a fact. Mark could appreciate male physiology without it meaning anything. He’d appreciated plenty of male physiology in his life. In gym class. At the pool. In... okay, those were all terrible examples, but the point stood.

He scrolled again, stroking faster now, and his breath hitched when he landed on a brown otter.

The brown otter.

Mark’s hand squeezed, and a full-body shiver rolled through him.

This one he’d found last night and stared at for eleven minutes. He’d checked the clock. He’d checked the clock twice. The otter was leaning against a railing, shot from behind at a three-quarter angle, looking back over his shoulder with dark eyes and a grin that showed the tips of his teeth. His fur was a rich, warm brown, sleek and damp like he’d just come out of the water. His tail was thick at the base, curving up in a lazy S-shape. And his ass...

His ass was round. Full. Impossibly, unreasonably full for an otter, sitting high on narrow hips, the fur there slightly lighter, almost tan where the light caught it.

Mark’s fist tightened. His hips jerked up into his own grip.

"This isn’t," he started, and then stopped, because who was he even talking to? The laptop? His dick? God? None of them were listening. None of them cared about his carefully constructed framework of heterosexual identity.

He stared at the brown otter’s face. Dark eyes. Sharp grin. The resemblance was...

It was coincidental. Lots of otters were brown. Lots of otters had dark eyes. The fact that this particular otter had the same lean build, the same mischievous curve to his mouth, the same way of looking over his shoulder like he knew exactly what effect it was having, that was just... statistics. Probability. A large enough sample size would inevitably produce overlapping phenotypes.

Mark was jerking off to statistics. That was his story, and he was sticking to it.

His hand found a rhythm, fast and slick, grip twisting on the upstroke the way that always got him there quickest. The laptop screen glowed in the dim room, the brown otter’s gaze fixed on him with that knowing look, and Mark’s brain did the thing he’d been dreading. It started filling in details the image didn’t provide.

The fur under his palms. How it would feel, dense and soft and warm, sliding under his fingers as he gripped those hips. The sound, that chittering gasp, high and breathless. The way the tail would flag up, deliberate, an invitation written in body language older than speech.

"Fuck," Mark breathed, his eyes unfocusing as the image on the screen blurred, and suddenly it wasn’t a stranger on a railing anymore.

It was Oli. Bent over the desk where Mark was sitting right now. Looking back over his shoulder with those dark, glinting eyes. Saying his name in that wrecked voice. Mark. Again.

The laptop slid sideways on his thighs. Mark didn’t catch it. Didn’t even try. It tipped off his lap and landed on the desk with a clatter that knocked his Philosophy textbook, still upside down because he’d never actually fixed it, onto the floor for the second time that week, and Mark didn’t care. Couldn’t care. His eyes were closed now, and the movie behind his eyelids was running at full resolution.

Oli underneath him. The tight, impossible heat. The way the otter’s body had pulled him in like it was designed for this, engineered for this specific purpose of driving Mark out of his goddamn mind. The tail slapping against his stomach. The claws in the sheets. That sound, that broken, keening wail when Mark had grabbed the base of his tail and squeezed.

Mark’s hand was a blur. His hips were off the chair, thrusting up into his fist, and his other hand was gripping the edge of the desk so hard his knuckles had gone white. The chair was rolling backward on the tile, one inch, two inches, and he was chasing it, chasing the image, chasing the phantom sensation of Oli clenching around him in rhythmic, milking pulses.

"Not gay," he panted, which was a truly spectacular thing to say while masturbating to a vivid mental projection of your male roommate’s ass. "This is just... nnh... muscle memory. Physiological. Totally norm... oh fuck, oh fuck..."

The first pulse of climax hit Mark with the raw, unyielding force of a train barreling through every thought in his head. The sensation seized him, tight and absolute, locking his abs and thighs, shoulders, even his calves and toes, until the only thing left was release, a single, shuddering wave that tore a groan out of his throat, so loud the neighbor in 215B probably heard every note. A heavy spatter shot up and caught his chin, warm and sticky. Another stripe streaked up his shirt, and the rest followed in thick, sinuous ropes, spilling out and soaking straight through his clothes. He kept jerking his cock, desperate for every last aftershock, and every convulsion behind his eyes came with images of Oli: Oli’s back arching, Oli’s cock spilling in dense, beautiful lines, Oli’s voice chanting his name like a spell, twisting it into something sacred and obscene.

Mark slumped into the chair, lungs working at the air. He watched the ceiling fan spin overhead, blades drifting with the lazy confidence of something that had seen plenty worse on a Friday night in a college dorm. His shirt was utterly wrecked. His hand was a disaster. Cum clung to his chin, and Mark wiped at it, not quite believing he’d actually done that. He’d managed to cum on his own chin, staring at otter photos, here on a Friday night, in an institution of higher learning.

For a moment, all he could do was sit and let the tremors pass, the afterglow still twitching in his legs. The air was thick with the smell of sex layered over the faint, sterile sharpness of the cinderblock walls. Together, they built a haze equal parts arousal and mortification. Maybe this was his new least favorite smell, or maybe it was already a perverse favorite. Hard to be sure.

His cock, exhausted and twitching, settled limp against his thigh, no help at all for the existential meltdown lining up right behind the haze. The dark wet mark on his khakis widened out like a spreading continent, while his button-down was a lost cause, a splattered mess in the medium of shame and bodily fluids.

"Tactical," Mark muttered at the ceiling fan, voice hoarse. "That was tactical."

The fan didn’t break rhythm. Slow and unimpressed, it just watched him, silent and judgmental.

Peeling his hand off the desk, Mark caught the deep half-moons dug into his palm from clutching the edge. He wiped off on a clean bit of his shirt, some tiny island near the collar, and then put himself back together enough to pick at his laptop. The otter pic was still up, brown pelt, three-quarter angle, staring with cheerful intensity. He closed the tab, wiped the history, cleared the cache, stared at the blank search bar, and cleared the cookies for good measure. Call it a digital exorcism.

The Word doc waited for him at the bottom of the screen. dkjfhgkjd. The entire week, and those were his only contributions to his Epistemology paper, due Monday: six letters of keyboard mash and one frantic jack-off session.

He needed a shower. Badly. The mess on his shirt was starting to cool, and the thought of how he must smell made his skin crawl: like sex, like guilt, and like something basically criminal. He needed to clean up, change, sit down, and put together at least a thesis statement before...

At some point, Mark had stopped tracking how much time he was burning.

His eyes cut to Oli’s alarm clock. The red LED was a warning flare in the half-light.

8:13 PM.

The time burned into Mark’s mind, icy and sharp. Less than forty minutes before Oli would return, and here he was, sitting in their half-lit dorm room, his cock out, shirt streaked with cum like some hopeless, horny kid.

His dick gave a needy twitch, almost pitiful in how it refused to settle down, and Mark could only sigh at himself. "God," he muttered, voice flat, "what has gotten into you?"

He couldn’t tell if he was addressing his dick or himself anymore. The line between Mark Chen and Mark Chen’s cock had basically disappeared sometime Tuesday night. Part of him, the part with an actual functioning brain, knew he should clean up and try to salvage what remained of his dignity. But another part, the part currently calling the shots, wanted to keep going until he physically couldn’t anymore, like jerking off was some kind of gay exorcism.

"I could probably squeeze in another one," he muttered, checking the clock again. "Shower after. Still have time."

Mark didn’t even pretend to think it through. His hand was already back on his dick, half-hard and sticky from round one.

"Fuck it," he said to nobody. "Round two. Beat the clock."
