An Adult Pokemon Journey : Chapter 3
Im trying to write semi-regularly and in doing so. I'm writing short chapters as they are easier to do in one sitting.
Your eyes flash open, ears ringing with the low grumble of the Zebstrika's breathing above you. Hands tingling with numbness and lower torso uncomfortably wet, you attempt to gather the attention of your Pokemon blanket. Grabbing the creatures ears softly you gently pat and stroke you Pokemon to the land of consciousness. Equine eyes meet you own and you are greeted with a long slobbery lick from your chin to your forehead.
"Ew. Gross"
With a happy nicker your Pokemon rolls off you and onto all fours on the floor. You notice that he must have slipped out from within you during the night. Thankful for the fact too as you had planned for today to be the start of your trek to Cotton town.
Mimicking the Pokemon, you roll over to the edge of the bed and you feel a rush of giddiness as you see the time.
"It's already past midday!?" You shout as you scramble to the bathroom to get washed up.
Turning the shower knobs to pre-heat the water you strip naked and enter the still cold but slowly warming stream, with the Zebstrika' s eager eyes scanning your body going unnoticed. Now cleaned and ready to tackle whats rest of the day, you grab the soiled bed sheets with a grimace and take a note to have them incinerated. With backpack on and your Pokemon by your side you get ready to embark on your greatest journey yet. There's just one thing that's bugging you.
"Hey buddy?" You motion to the Zebstrika. "It feels wrong to call you by your species, want me to give you a name?"
The Pokemon gave a deep nod in acknowledgement.
"Hmm OK, you're a lightning Pokemon so... how about Bolt?"
The equine gives you what you assume to be a deadpan look at the stereotypical name.
"No? How about 'Flash' then?"
Zebstrika shakes its head so violently that you worry for the health of his neck.
"Sorry bud, I've never given anything a name before." You think for a moment before asking "How about Zeb?"
As if in answer to your question the now names Pokemon bleats it own name and nuzzles up next to you.
"Well Zeb, we need to get you checked out for moves at the Pokemart, then we can be on our way to Cotton town"
Deciding to keep Zeb out of his Pokeball (who knew Zebstrika were masters of puppy dog eyes?) you make the short walk from your now vacant house to the Pokemart. The doors open outward just as you reach for the handle and you are met with a face full of dirt as a man and his Meowstic barge past you.
"Hmmph, not even an apology" you mutter as Zeb helps you regain your footing.
Nevertheless you grasp some composure and head toward the counter.
"Good afternoon, are you looking to buy or sell today?" the store clerk offers.
"Hi I'm looking to buy a standard issue blank Pokedex as well as five each of, full heals, revives, Pokeballs and potions." you reply
The clerk nods and leaves through the back room to fetch your order, upon his return you scan your credit chit and move to a vacant corner of the Pokemart with you items. Pokedex in hand you begin a full scan of Zeb, whose eyes are darting around the store at all the varieties of Pokepuffs and other snacks. The scan completes and you read the information.
Height: 5.7 (1.73m) Moves: Double Kick
Weight: 175.3 lbs (79.5 kg) Flame Charge
Ability: Motor Drive Spark
Nature: Naive Pursuit
With the vital information read you open the Pokedex map and work out the best way to reach Cotton town.
"Hey Zeb?" you ask, gaining the Pokemon's attention. " This thing says we can save four hours walking time if we cut through the Wheat Woods... You up for it?"
The happy nicker is all the confirmation you need that the Zebstrika likes that idea.
Its not long before you're both standing at the mouth to the woods. Light seemingly dying just a few metres into the heavy trees. You give Zeb a reassuring pat and take the first few steps onto the path.
It's not long however before you hear a voice not too far away.
"Ah C'mon you worthless Pokemon, i'm not going back to the Pokemon centre for you again!"
With your attention garnered you near the voice and enter the clearing where a trainer is standing next to a Meowstic, both of them watching a Zoroark battling a Beedrill. The Zoroark is breathing embers at the Beedrill, most likely attempting to use flamethrower. While this is happening the bug Pokemon is pummelling its opponent with super effective bug moves. The dark type looks unsteady on its feet and soon falls down, fainted.
"Bah, worthless!" the trainer shouts in anger.
The man reaches for a Pokeball for what you assume to be to recall his Zoroark, but much to your surprise he throws the capture device at the victorious bug Pokemon. The ball shakes and then remains still. The trainer walks up to the ball laying motionless on the ground, picks it up and leaves the area, the dark Pokemon still laying unconscious.
Watching the scene unfold has made you feel ill, springing from your hiding spot you rush to the Pokemons aide. administering one of the revives you purchased the Zoroark slowly open its eyes slowly becoming tear filled somehow knowing that it no longer has an owner. A wave of compassion flows over you and you grasp the Pokemon tightly in a hug.
You break the hug when you feel the Zoroarks breathing return to normal. Its eyes locked onto your bag, contents spilled in the search for medical supplies. You follow his eyes and find his focus is on one of the Pokeballs you bought. You reach over and take one of them and offer it to the dark Pokemon.
"It's your choice buddy"
Paws outstretched the Zoroark gets the gist of what you imply and with a quick gaze into your eyes, presses the middle button and captures himself.
You then mimic your newest Pokemon and hit the button in order to meet your new friend.
