The next chapter for Lancefree. Kirdallirth's message to Greg the security guard has brought him and his wife to Firefly Mountain Park for a ride on the carousel. Also it appears a pair of gatecrashers have decided to show up.

Chapter 4

The sun was low in the sky but not quite setting as an SUV drove into the abandoned parking lot for Firefly Mountain Park. The sides of the vehicle were painted with the logo of the security firm hired by the estate to maintain security during the long years of dispute. The SUV came to a stop right at the gates to the park. They were mostly closed, but cracked enough a person would have no problem slipping past.

“That's odd." Greg said as he looked around the empty parking lot.

“That the gate is open?" His wife Leia asked.

He shook his head. “I expected that, I mean I don't see Todd's truck anywhere."

She shrugged. “Maybe he just parked it inside the actual park."

“I guess, nothing wrong with that, but if he's leaving I figured he would already have it outside."

“You're over-thinking things, again." Leia shook her head with a slight smile. “You always do."

“Occupational hazard." Greg smiled back before opening the door.

They walked the remaining distance to the front gate of the park. Greg and Leia held hands as they remembered all the times they had visited in their younger days. They were locals and had grown up coming to the park every season. Greg eventually got a job working at the park. One such year they literally ran into each other when Leia crashed into the ice cream cart he was pushing. After the impact one thing led to another which brought them here thirty-odd years later.

“It feels so strange being back here at all, but with it so quiet and still, it's almost creepy." Leia shivered slightly.

“I'll be honest, you never get used to it. Even when I worked at the park in high school, when everything was shut down and the ride lights were shut off it was creepy as hell, even with the rest of the park staff there."

As they made their way through the opened gate, Greg and Leia were being watched. The nymphs still were without wings, but with their clawed fingers and toes they had little problems scaling the walls and other structures of the park. Now hidden up along the roofline they watched as the pair of middle-aged humans entered their hive. There was a bit of excitement at the prospect of expanding the hive that was flooding through the group-link, even the little ones were twitching with excitement in the brood chamber. It was only Kirdallirth's presence maintaining any sense of calm in her hive.

“Look at that!" Leia said pointing to the antique carousel, “it's all lit up and the music is playing."

“Todd must be over that way if he has it all set up for us."

“God, this really takes me back." Leia leaned against her husband as they walked towards the ride. “I still remember our first ride on it together."

“Me too, though I always preferred the scrambler as far as spinning rides go."

Leia rolled her eyes. “Where is your sense of romance?"

“Well, it always pushed you up tightly against me, that's a little romantic, isn't it?"

They both laughed as they reached the carousel. However, there was no sign of Todd anywhere around the ride.

“Hello! Anyone here?" Leia called out.

“Todd?" Greg shouted as he looked around, “Where are you at?"

“She, er, he's unavailable right now." A female voice called from behind the center portion of the carousel.

Hearing an unknown voice put Greg on guard. “Hey! Who are you, come on out!"

“Calm down," a male voice responded this time, “We just want to talk with you."

“But don't freak out, ok?" The female voice added.

That installed little confidence in Greg or Leia. Greg put his wife behind him before addressing whoever was standing behind the carousel.

“This is park security. Whoever you are, you're not supposed to be here. Now come out from behind there." Greg's voice was loud and firm.

Greg jumped back slightly when he saw two people dressed in some kind of bug costumes. One was pink and the other a shiny red.

'Relax, we don't want to hurt you, just talk for a bit." Melina said, holding out her hands.

“I know what you're feeling, but please, Just listen to us, ok?" Aidan said in a pleading tone.

Greg blinked in surprise, but quickly recovered. “What do you think you're doing dressed up in those ridiculous costumes? And where is the engineer? Did you do something to him?"

“Costumes?" Melina patted her chest plate. “No, these are our bodies, at least this is how we look now as Vespera."

“We used to be human, and yes we did break into the park a while back." Aidan admitted. “We wanted to see the place again before it got torn down. But then we ran into Kirdallirth, the Mother. She brought us into her hive."

“Alright, enough of the crazy talk, I'm calling this in."

As Greg reached for the radio on his belt, Aidan acted almost without thinking, leaping across the distance and smacking it out of the guard's hand. Leia screamed at the inhuman speed and agility Aidan showed. She was suddenly convinced they weren't just kids in costumes.

“Leia! Run!" Greg shouted as they turned to flee.

“No please, you have to listen! We want you to join us!" Aidan called after them.

“Aidan, it's too late, they won't listen." Melina placed her hand on his back. “You tried babe."

“I just wanted to make up for being such an idiot in the beginning."

Aidan then felt a warmth of support through the group link from his hivemates, and it helped.

Greg didn't know why the monsters weren't chasing them, but he didn't care. He just needed to get back to the car with Leia. He didn't hear the buzzing sound of the wings coming from above before there was a sharp pain in his shoulder and everything went numb. Greg would have fallen to the ground if the creature that stung him had not caught and lowered him gently before they leapt back up into the air to sting Leia. He couldn't even shout a warning to her.

Kirdallirth lowered Leia down slowly after catching her. The nymphs soon joined them. Aidan approached her first.

“I tried to talk to them." He said softly, his antenna drooping.

“I know. Honestly it surprised me that Laura actually listened to me instead of running away. Don't feel bad about it." She gently touched his shoulder. “I'm afraid most people will need to be brought into the hive like you were, but in the end it will work out. Now, let's bring these two back to the brood chamber."

Aidan nodded and bent down to easily pick up Greg.

“Sorry bud, just trust me, it's for the best."

Melina picked up Leia and they all made their way back to the brood chamber. The larvae were excited to see the new guests and crawled on top of each other trying to get a good look at the humans. Greg and Leia were both laid out onto the reclined benches as gently as possible. Kirdallirth approached Greg first.

“I apologize for the deception, but I assumed you would be the first one to come see what happened to Todd. I am Todd, or rather I was before I became so much more. Two of my children tried to explain things to you, but as I feared, you didn't listen. But everything will work out in the end, once you join the group-link as a fellow Vespera."

“Wh-why?" Greg managed to croak out, even if his body was still too heavy to respond.

“To save the world before humanity destroys it and bring peace and unity to all. You will understand once you join us."

The slits along Kirdallirth's neck opened and released their pheromone load. Greg let out a long low groan as he felt more aroused than he had in years. The sensations bordered on pain in his uniform slacks. Kirdallirth quickly relieved him of any pressure as she deftly sliced his pants and shorts off his body.

“Damn, for an old guy he's packing." Melina whispered.

“Melina…" Laura sighed.

“He won't be old for long." Kirdallirth said with a smile as she wrapped her fingers around his shaft. “Becoming a nymph is a fresh start for everyone."

After a few strokes Greg's body stiffened and he moaned loudly as he came hard, though his cock didn't seem to flag in the least.

“Just relax and enjoy it." Issac called over.

Kirdallirth smiled at the encouragement her hive was giving as they watched. With a moistened finger she teased his hole gently before slipping it in. It didn't take long before he came again, though not quite as impressive as a load. Now that Greg was ready for her, Kirdallirth climbed up onto the bench as her ovipositor started to slip out with one pair of hands she gently caressed Greg's body while the other lifted his feet up by the ankles until his twitching hole was on full display. He let out his loudest moan yet as she slipped into him. In the group link, Kirdallirth could feel Aidan and Issac remembering their own conversion. It only added to her pleasure as she slowly worked her way into Greg.

She closed her eyes and felt the egg shift inside her body before it began its descent through her ovipositor. Her own soft moan was drowned out by Greg's cries as the egg pushed into his body. He was left panting as Kirdallirth slowly pulled out. He couldn't process what he was feeling exactly as the sensation of the egg being absorbed by his body filled him with warmth and a vigor he hadn't felt in decades. The skin on Greg's legs grew leathery then stiff as it hardened into plates, taking on a rich green shade. Internally it felt like it should hurt, but it didn't.

In-between Greg's legs things were changing as well. His balls were practically sucked up into his body. His shaft grew numerous bumps and ridges. It turned to a dark green at the base and shifted to a lighter shade at the tip. Instead of going soft, the shaft instead retracted back up into Greg's body and the hole left behind closed tightly shut. The flab he had put on in recent years was burned away by his transformation. The buttons of Greg's uniform shirt popped as his heavy green carapace formed on his chest. Clawed feet tore through the toes of his work boots like they were made of paper instead of leather.

Greg's eyes closed tightly as his antenna started to unfurl from his head. He breathed deeply as he found the welcoming embrace of the group-link and the love of his new hive. Vibrant multifaceted purple eyes opened to the world for the first time and he smiled softly. He sat up and hugged Kirdallirth tightly with the strong arms of a guardian.

“Welcome home." She said softly, returning the hug.

“I should have listened to Aidan and Melina." he said a little sheepishly.

“It's alright," Aidan said as he came over and gave Greg a hug, “I kind of thought the same things when I first saw my friends in their new forms."

“How do you feel?" Laura asked as she helped Kirdallirth down off the bench.

“I don't think I've ever felt this good, and I don't just mean my body." He said as he tore off what was left of his uniform.

“Hold onto your shirt before Melina eats it." Issac joked and there was a round of laughter.

“Greg," Kirdallirth gently touched his shoulder, “why don't you help me bring Leia into the hive?"

“I can help? Thank you, after going through so much together I can't imagine not having her join us." Greg hopped off the bench and approached his wife. “Don't be scared baby, you'll want this." He said softly as he brushed aside the hair on her face.

Leia whimpered at first,She had seen everything unfold, unable to look away if she had wanted to. Before she could raise any objections, a hit of the pheromones from Kirdallirth soon took hold. She squirmed and moaned until Greg pressed his lips against hers and started to kiss her. Kirdallirth quickly removed her sweatpants and sneakers before starting to stroke her sex gently. Leia moaned onto Greg's mouth and returned his kiss desperately. Kirdallirth climbed up on the bench, continuing to rub and caress Leia's body. She could tell the pheromones were affecting the woman especially hard. Kirdallirth gently spread her legs wide with one pair of hands while the other continued to caress and tease her body.

Slowly she eased her ovipositor into Leia and the woman almost climaxed just from that. She reached up and grabbed a hold of Greg's body and held on tightly as the broodmother fully inserted herself. Kirdallirth closed her eyes and enjoyed the warm sex squeezing around her. A few small motions from her hips was all it took to send Leia over the edge. The egg slipped into her with little trouble after that.

Even in the haze of the pheromones and her orgasm, Leia could feel the warm spot inside her as the egg melded into her body. She felt a sudden rush as the changes began. Leia remained locked in an embrace with Greg as her pale skin started to harden and take on the same shade of green as her long time partner. The aches and pains that had cropped up over the years faded away as more and more of her body was encased in the green carapace. As her antennae unfurled Leia was enveloped in a love deeper than she had ever felt in her former life. She slowly broke the kiss and opened her brilliant blue multifaceted eyes and smiled.

“I always thought you looked good in green." Leia said as she gently caressed Greg's cheek. She looked around at her hivemates, now all gathered close around her. “It's strange…I just met all of you, but It feels like I've always known you."

Kirdallirth chuckled as she was helped down off the bench by Aidan. “Another benefit of the group-link."

“Looks like I'm not the only guardian anymore." Laura smiled.

“It seemed fitting." Kirdallirth smiled, “We're going to need far more than just one I'm afraid."

“Probably." Greg sighed. “We are going to need to protect the hive. Has anyone been monitoring the security cameras?"

“Oh, yeah, they have them here, don't they?" Laura said, feeling a little embarrassed.

“They aren't exactly cutting edge, even before the park closed down. But maybe…" Greg trailed off as he tapped into the knowledge inside the group-link. “What if we upgrade the system with Vespera technology," he turned to the broodmother, “we can do that, right?"

“We try to, ah, recycle as much of the existing civilization when we arrive on a planet." Kirdallirth motioned to the brood chamber. “A better use than just tearing it all down."

“I just wish the rest of us could make construction gel." Melina sighed.

“You'll mature soon enough, we just need to buy a little more time for you to do so. But before that, I think I owe my two newest children a ride on the carousel."

Leia laughed, “I feel like we should do some work first, but I was looking forward to that ride all day"

***

Greg and Leia moved the SUV inside the park so it wouldn't be easily spotted. By then the sun had set and the stars were starting to come out. Greg looked up at the sky. It was like he was seeing the early evening sky for the first time with his new eyes. It took a slight tug on his arm from Leia to break his stare.

“Sorry." he said softly as he followed her towards the carousel.

Greg suddenly came to a stop, his entire body going stiff as he antenna twitched.

“Wait! Something's wrong…"

The rest of the hive responded immediately. They could hear the sound of a car entering the parking lot.

With a single thought Kirdallirth directed her hive to scatter, hide, and watch. She opened her wings and took to the air, flying up onto the Ferris Wheel to watch over everyone..

***

A battered and rusting beige car with a red driver's side door rumbled across the faded and cracked asphalt of the parking lot. It idled roughly as the occupants took the time to crack open some cheap beer.

“So, why did we come out here?" Derrick asked from the passenger seat.

“I heard some chatter at the bar last night while you were jerking off at home."

“Hey, my mom was getting on my case about my room, and it was trash night!'

“Whatever. The point is I've heard they are going to tear this whole place down and people are already talking about sneaking in for a look around."

“Ok, so?"

“So, before everyone else sneaks in, I want to have a little fun. My bitch of a sister was always going on about working here when she was in high school. Well, I figured we could leave a little note for her." He snickered as he reached into the back seat and pulled out a plastic bag with a pair of spray paint cans.

“Heh, she is a bitch. But won't they come after us?"

“Come on, they're going to bulldoze the entire place flat, like they'll care about some paint. Besides, it will prove to everyone we were the first ones here." Jeffery handed a can of paint to his friend.

“Well, what else are we going to do tonight?" Derrick smirked before popping the door open.

With a can of beer in one hand and a can of spray paint in the other, they made their way to the front gates. The pair stood at the gate trying to figure out how to climb over, when Jeff noticed the gate was cracked open.

“Shit, did someone already show up?" Jeff kicked the heavy gate.

“So what?" Derrick shrugged. “Are we going to head back to town or have some fun?"

Jeff took a large gulp of beer, “Come on!" He pushed through the opening.

It was dark, but the moon was enough to see where they were going. Jeff had no destination in mind, he was just looking for a target. Once he saw the popcorn stand he had it. He shook the can as he stalked towards it with a malicious grin on his face. Derrick followed after him, popping the top off the spray paint can and tossing it to the ground.

“So, ready to make some art?" Derick laughed.

“Oh yeah"

With bright orange paint Jeff started to write out a message while Derrick amused himself by drawing a large cock with his can of blue paint. They were laughing, oblivious to the rest of the park. They had no idea they were not only being watched, but that figures in the dark were slowly getting closer to them.

“Shit man," Derrick stepped back slightly to see their handiwork, “what the hell did Shelly say to you to piss you off that much?"

They both started to laugh at that. Having seen enough of the two trouble makers, the nymphs intervened. Laura and Greg rushed from the shadows at them. Greg grabbed a hold of Jeff first.

“What the fuck!" Jeff cried out as his arms were quickly locked behind him by a pair of powerful limbs.

Derrick screamed at what he saw as a monster then turned to run, slamming into Laura. He fell to the ground and cowered in front of the black guardian. Laura knocked the can of spray paint out of his hand then hauled him up easily off the ground.

“Let me go you fucking bug!" Jeff thrashed and kicked at his captor.

It didn't phase Greg in the least. The blows against his shins were barely negligible because of his new carapace..

“Ten years of watching over this place and now you punks come to mess it up!" Greg shouted back as he tightened his grip.

“Don't eat me! Please don't eat me!" Derick whined.

The other nymphs soon came out of the shadows, all of them glaring at the vandals. Confident that her hive had the situation under control, Kirdallirth flew back to the brood chamber to await her guests.

“How could you?" Melina snapped as she got a good look at the graphiti, “It's disgusting, especially what you said about that poor girl!"

“Shut up, you damn bug!" Jeff snapped back.

Aidan stalked over to the loudmouth, his blue eyes glaring as he got into his face. “Don't call us bugs."

“Calm down." Issac placed a hand on his hivemate's shoulder.

“I know these two idiots." Laura said as she kept a firm grip on the now crying Derick. “Jeff Kemp and Derick Woods, two of Mullinhill's most annoying fuck-ups."

Jeff looked surprised. “How the fuck do you know my name?"

“Everyone has heard of you two," Greg sighed, “I'm surprised we haven't met before now."

“Please! It's just some paint, don't hurt me!" Derick continued to beg.

Leia shook her head. “Let's just bring them to Mother, she'll deal with them."

The pair were dragged kicking and screaming to the brood chamber. The angry swearing from Jeff scared the larvae who did their best to hide from this pair of humans. Kirdallirth was waiting for them, both pairs of her arms were crossed and she watched them approach.

“Who the hell are you?" Jeff spat out.

“Don't talk to Mother like that." Aidan took a step towards him, but stopped when he felt the broodmother's unspoken command.

“My name is Kirdallirth, I am the broodmother."

“Are you like the queen of these bugs?" Jeff was starting to look a little scared, his bravado weakening now that he was standing in front of the broodmother.

“Shut your stupid mouth before you get us killed!" Derick snapped back at his friend. “They said don't call them bugs!"

“Actually, I am far more than just a queen. And your friend is right, we don't like being called bugs. But all that doesn't matter. What does matter are your actions against my hive."

“We were told they were tearing the place down so we thought it didn't matter." Jeff was starting to sweat now.

“Please, if we knew someone was living here, we wouldn't have come!" Derick was sobbing again, “Please don't eat us!"

Kirdallirth looked back and forth between them both and sighed. “We eat a lot of things, but not people. Honestly, I'm more disappointed in you both than angry. I was hoping guests to my hive would show some more respect. We were just starting to build our hive and you have contaminated the popcorn stand with that paint. Not to mention the disgusting things you both painted on it."

“I'm sorry! We're sorry! Can't we just clean it up or something? Derrick blurted out

“Yeah! That's it, just let us clean it up and everyone can just go home happy." Jeff was pleading now.

“Oh, you both will clean up the mess, there is no doubt about that." Kirdallirth smiled slightly. “After all, you wouldn't want your new home to look trashed, would you?"

***

The sun was just starting to rise over the mountains as an orange drone and a light blue one were scrubbing the side of the popcorn stand. They had been at it for a while, and felt more than a little embarrassed after their conversion. However, it wasn't hate or admonishment coming through the group-link. Instead it felt so warm and welcoming, something Jeff and Derick had never felt before. It was something they both needed in retrospect.

“You two must be hungry." Melina said as she approached with a basket full of food, or at least what was food to the Vespera.

“Thanks." Derrick said, taking the basket.

The orange drone just nodded his head, still feeling a bit embarrassed.

“Hey, Jeff, don't worry about it. It's bad enough when Aidan regrets the things he said when he was scared and upset. I mean, yeah you two were being punks when Laura and Greg grabbed you last night, but that's in the past."

“It's easy to say that, but it's hard to let go of a life of, ah,"Jeff searched for the word, “bad choices."

“I understand that, but you don't have to work it out alone any more. You aren't alone, we are all here together."

Jeff slowly smiled.

***

The alarm clock next to Corinne's bed went off and her hand reached out to silence it. She smiled and sat up in bed. Corinne had had another amazing night's sleep. For the past few nights she had been having odd dreams. They didn't even feel like dreams, even with the fantastical set dressings, it was like she was meeting up with her friends. No, it was more than that, it was like she could feel them as much as talk to them. And it felt so good, she woke up feeling energetic and also very hungry for some reason. Deciding to take care of her hunger before taking a shower, Corinne headed down to the kitchen. Her parents were already there and dressed for the day.

“Good morning!" Corinne said, walking over to the cabinet for some cereal.

“Looks like someone got up on the right side of the bed this morning." Her father joked.

“The past several mornings, I believe." Her mother corrected.

Corinne just smiled and shrugged. “I guess. I've just been having some good dreams lately. They kind of keep me going through the day, I think." she said as she filled a large bowl full of cereal. “Do we still have any strawberries left?"

“A few, you know how much your father likes them."

“I'll have to stop and get some more on my way back from work then."

“How has work been lately?" Her father asked looking up from his phone. “I know you were complaining about the stress not that long ago."

“Good, well, at least better." She dropped the remaining strawberries into her bowl and grabbed the jug of milk. “I don't know if it's just me riding high from a good night's sleep, or if the customers have gotten better at the diner."

“Enjoy it while you can, Corinne," her mother smiled as she refilled his mug of coffee, “make the best of it."

As Corinne sat down at the table to enjoy her breakfast she was unaware there was an extra guest at the table. A purple Vespera larva clung tightly onto Corinne's neck, though she didn't hurt her host in any way. She had chosen the name Nasi for herself, as was customary for larvae of her age.

Awww, I wish there were more strawberries, they're my favorite. Nasi thought as Corinne ate.

The Vespera absorbed all the nutrients she needed through her host, which, other than making Corinne eat more food, had no other side effects on the human. But it wasn't just nutrients Nasi absorbed. She shared the feelings and senses of her host. Like the delicious taste of the strawberry Corinne was currently chewing. Nasi had learned and experienced so much in just a few days of hitching a ride, all the sights and sounds of the town, and the delicious food. Along with the strawberries, the larva especially loved the bike rides as Corinne rode her bike to her job at the local diner and all around the town of Mullinhill.

Nasi really wanted Corinne to join the hive. Last night while sharing the group-link with the human she had been able to chat with her. But Nasi also knew if her mind was developing more, she would be molting soon.

I need to convince her to go to the hive before I get any bigger. Not only will I not fit under her hair anymore to hide from everyone else, but she will notice me for sure.

After cleaning up after breakfast Corinne headed back upstairs to get a shower. She wasn't in a rush, it was still hours before her shift started, and she was looking forward to a long hot shower. Nasi didn't mind the shower, but wasn't a fan if the shampoo Corinne used

As Corinne let the hot water cascade over her body, she thought back on a conversation she had in her dream the night before. It was an invitation of sorts. She had met someone new in her dreams. Her name was Nasi, and it was amazing just how well they had clicked. It was more than Corinne could have imagined which was why she thought Nasi had to be real. She talked about visiting Firefly Mountain and making the group-link permanent.

As a kid Corinne had, of course, visited the local amusement park. She actually cried when it shut down. Now there were conflicting rumors the Firefly Mountain would either be sold or torn down. She really hoped it wouldn't be destroyed.

It would be cool to just see the park one more time. And let's face it, it's not the craziest thing I've snuck out to do in the middle of the night. Corinne smiled as she worked the shampoo into her hair. Would Nasi really be there? Or anyone else from the dreams for that matter? I guess there's just one way to find out. But first thing is first, I need to get ready for work. Though, maybe I should stop at the supermarket on the way in, I have a craving for more strawberries.
