T heard the door open, but she did not lift her head or open her eyes. She took a breath and waited for the air coming from the door to hit her.
That unmistakable mammal scent. Charles had beaten J home. So he came back after all. She waited until he was two steps away before raising her head.
“Hello, Charles.”
“Evening, T. Wow, it smells so nice in here.”
T scented him. He wasn’t hard, but he probably would be soon.
“I’m off work until [m]y heat [p]asses. [M]ost hu[m]ans can’t stand it, so I’[m] a[m]used to see you react this way.”
“I’ve barely been able to think about anything else. I almost told my boss I quit just so I could come yesterday.”
“I’m flattered, but don’t quit just for [m]e.”
She stretched and rose to full height. Charles seemed intimidated at first, but once she was standing he moved closer. She moved to him, nuzzled his cheek. He held her muzzle and kissed her. She didn’t have lips to return the gesture, but she recognized what it meant. She could hear the blood pooling in his groin.
“Hhhh, yes, that’s how to treat a lady in heat.”
He embraced her and kissed her again. She leaned into him and held him around his back. She felt his other hand feeling her down her shoulder and flank. Her tail flicked when she realized he was avoiding laying a hand on her chest.
“I have so[m]ething for you,” T said.
“Mm, what’s that?”
She stepped away and walked to the television. She pulled a tape from the top, then turned and handed it to Charles. He took it from her with both hands.
“_Lost Continent_?”
T bobbed from the neck. “Fro[m] the fifties. [M]y [m]other [pl]ayed one of the dinosaurs. It’s a terri[b]le [m]ovie by today’s standards—she’d be first to ad[m]it that—[b]ut [b]ack then dinosaurs were only allowed to [p]lay [m]onsters. They had to wear [m]akeup and [p]rosthetics, but you can recognize her. Also I [w]anted to show you this.”
She took the photo album from the shelf and opened it.
“I would’ve last ti[m]e you were here, but I forgot where I left it. Was in a unit the next street over. Finally found it today. Isha had quite a few roles in the forties and fifties.”
Charles moved beside her, looking down at the album and the numerous monochrome photographs showing a raptor wearing makeup to make her look like a triceratops or an allosaur or some weird monster.
“None of these are in order, sorry,” T continued. “I still haven’t figured out [w]hich [m]ovies all of the[m] are fro[m].”
“Why does she look like a triceratops in this one?”
“They’re extinct. All the four-legged dinosaurs are. Only two herbivore species are left. Go figure Hollywood [w]anted to show all the dinosaurs that aren’t around.”
She flipped the page, and now the photographs showed ordinary life in what looked like a suburb.
“[M]other had to live in the dinosaur district. Those were new then. So[m]e of these [p]ictures date fro[m] the thirties.”
Charles pointed. “Who is that?”
The most obvious question: why was he seeing this human woman in so many photographs?
“That’s June.” T lowered herself to her stomach. Charles sat beside her on the padded mat, hip to shoulder. “She and [m]y [m]other were together for twenty years. They [m]et on the set of so[m]e [m]onster [m]ovie. I still don’t know which, and she couldn’t re[m]e[mb]er. June was a secretary. Isha crossed the [b]arrier to s[p]eak to her. Back then, that was not allowed.”
“Together as in?”
“They were a couple, [b]ack when [p]eo[p]le didn’t talk about these things. June helped [m]y [m]other learn how to ty[p]e. It wasn’t easy for her. Ty[p]ewriters are not [m]ade for dinosaur hands, and she didn’t have enough fingers, but she [m]anaged to earn so[m]e extra [m]oney that way. Caused quite a stir in Hollywood at the time, and then their relationship ca[m]e out, which got both of the[m] kicked out of the [m]ovie industry. That’s how she ended u[p] in Ohio. This state was [m]ore lenient with the dinosaurs a[m]ong the[m]. Nobody cared about a hu[m]an and a dinosaur living together... until someone did.”
“Was that when you had to start registering as couples?”
“[M]other told me it was the [b]eginning of a lot of things. So[m]e ru[m]or [b]egan going around that dinosaurs were living in sin. That all sorts of de[p]raved things were ha[pp]ening in our district, so we needed more oversight. The ru[m]or was entirely a[m]ong [p]oliticians. No[b]ody [b]othered to talk to us about what was happening. [M]other told me next thing everyone knew, we had ha[b]itation regulations. Now we had to live one [p]erson to an a[p]art[m]ent, and we had to register to have a [p]artner if we wanted to live together. We [b]egan seeing more ins[p]ectors. That’s when [m]y [m]other [m]et [m]y father. They registered. June still came over frequently.”
“Wasn’t that awkward?”
She bumped noses with him. “[M]y [m]other loved hi[m] and her at the same time. I often had two [m]others and one father.”
“Oh.”
“Does that sur[p]rise you?”
“Yes, actually. My parents were... I can’t imagine that working out very well. Would have been too much jealousy.”
T huffed, nosed him. “That kind of thing doesn’t ha[pp]en around here. I’[m] on [p]ills that [p]revent eggs, but even with those, we’re only in heat once a year. No reason to [b]e jealous.”
He returned the gesture and then looked down at the album again. He pointed to one picture of Isha at a typewriter. “Where is this?”
“She found secretarial work in town thanks to June. It’s true what they say. Doesn’t [m]atter what you know. It’s who you know, and having a hu[m]an vouch for her [m]ade all the difference.”
The next page was clearly back in California. Hatchlings in tow.
“[P]arents took us [b]ack,” T continued. “My si[b]lings and I [w]anted to see it for ourselves. [M]other and June both told us about it so often. [M]other wanted nothing to do with the [p]lace, but she didn’t sto[p] [m]e fro[m] trying. It was R who got [m]e so[m]e of the [b]igger roles. Hollywood had changed quite a bit. Dinosaurs were getting other parts besides [m]onsters, and I’[m] a[b]le to get enough work to [m]ake [m]igrating worth the effort.”
“Who is R?”
“Big ra[p]tor. [M]akes [m]oney dancing at the gay clu[b]s.” She turned the page. “Isha didn’t have [p]ictures fro[m] all of the fil[m]s and TV s[p]ots she did, but I’[m] [p]roud to have all of these. It’s one of the only records any of this ha[pp]ened. Without this, I think everyone would re[m]e[mb]er hu[m]ans in these roles, or sto[p] [m]otion or so[m]ething.”
The human’s eyes widened.
“Is that _Journey to the Center of the Earth_?”
T curled her neck back and looked at him. “You know it?”
“It’s one of my mother’s favorites! She made us all watch it many times.”
“It has giant lizards toward the end. [M]y [m]other was one of the[m].”
“They’re not iguanas shot in forced perspective?”
“You [w]ant to [w]atch it again? You’ll see the[m] as dinosaurs now, doing their [b]est to look like they’re walking on four legs. It’s what the studio [w]anted.”
“I’d love to see it again.”
T stood up. “Let [m]e get so[m]e V8. I [b]ought tea and soda for you. If you want coffee you can bring your own [p]ot.”
Charles laughed. “Coke or Pepsi?”
“So[m]e of each.”
“Pepsi, please.”
T walked to the kitchen. Charles stood up and went to the TV stand. He found the tape and popped it into the VCR.
“Can’t believe I’m going to watch a fifties movie with a dinosaur.”
T returned with a can for him and a glass for herself.
“Lots of [m]onster [m]ovies [m]ade [b]ack then. It’s one of the [b]etter fil[m]s to co[m]e out of that ti[m]e. You’ll even notice so[m]e dinosaurs in the city shots.”
“Can’t wait to see them now.”
The TV changed from blue to a CBS/Fox logo. T settled in. So did Charles. Not many dinosaurs in this movie, but the human noticed them in the background now. He told her he must have seen this movie twenty times as a kid, but now he was seeing it for the first time.
T rolled to her side, stomach facing him, now lit only by the glow coming from the television. Charles let his hand wander over her stomach.
T rolled to her back and spread her legs. Charles immediately knelt before her, at the source of her heat,
and he took it in. After several long drags that might have made him high, he came up for air and looked up her torso at her.
“It’s only going to get better, isn’t it?”
T reached out to him and felt his neck with her claws. “Can you descri[b]e it [b]etter now?”
“Yes! It’s still pine cone and honey but now there’s lemongrass mixed in there.”
“Hhhh, more [p]lants. I like your descri[p]tions.”
He took the opportunity to feel her. T raised her legs higher and sprawled.
“Are you in [p]ain again?”
“Yes, you smell so good it hurts.”
“Hhhhh fill [m]e with eggs, [p]lease. You have no idea what this is like for [m]e. Uhhh for a solid [m]onth it’s all I can think a[b]out. I just [w]ant cock dee[p] in [m]e all ti[m]e. I want to feel heavy with eggs afterward. It’s an itch that’s hard to scratch, [b]ut you sure he[lp]ed that night at the clu[b].”
Charles was now unclothed and fully erect. The sight made T shudder.
“[b]ring it closer. Let [m]e scent that.”
Charles crouched near her muzzle. She scented it, felt it on her muzzle, nosed his balls.
“I never thought I’d find a [m]a[mm]al so... enticing. Just you being here [m]akes [m]e want to be filled.”
He lowered himself over her, kissing her. She wrapped her hands around him, poking his skin with her claws and dragging them down his back.
She felt him. She reached behind and cupped his rear, pushing him into her. He slid in, and again to her surprise it hit some good places.
He kissed her again. “I’m ruining my childhood. Never thought I’d have sex to this movie.”
“I never thought I’d [b]e [w]ith a hu[m]an, [b]ut you feel so good in [m]e. Hhhhhhhh, [m]aybe you _should_ quit your jo[b]. [P]lease just fuck [m]e all day. Give [m]e eggs. [P]lease.”
Charles pulled out and pushed in. They both gasped at the same time. She took in his air. He took hers in. He seemed to get even more hard.
The front door opened, and J stepped inside. He didn’t bother to close the door, and he stalked toward them. His dick was out and dripping. He spread his claws and hissed at them.
Charles fucked T faster. “Not this time. Not this time!”
J lunged and clamped his jaws around the human’s neck. Charles struggled, smacking and punching the other raptor, searching for a weak point but only finding solid scales.
