Chapter 50: I Am Not Afraid Of The Dark. I Am Afraid Of The Things In The Dark ** (The Field Trip Part One) **

Day 153

The ocelot father called out to his two sons in the blinding snowstorm- “Cavin! Corey! This way!"

“Where did this storm come from papa?!" Cavin, his oldest asked.

“I am not sure. The weather was supposed to be spectacular for our hike today until this happened!" The ocelot father said.

“Do you know why it is called weather?" Corey asked his father and big brother who were trying to stare at him despite being pelted by the stinging, blinding snowfall. “Because you don't know whether it will be sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy or snowy!" The young ocelot said smiling.

“Yeah, yeah Corey thank you for trying to lighten the mood. But when we started our hike today, we weren't expecting to run into inclement weather, let alone a snow storm. We are not equipped for this and unless we find shelter we are done for." The ocelot father said to his sons who were stunned by his revelation.

The trio continued to hike through the wilderness in the blinding and stinging snow shivering all the way- their clothing which was nothing more than simple jackets, offering little protection. Cavin in particular, was wishing that with each step that they hadn't chosen that particular day for a hike through the uplands- miles from anywhere and now caught in a snowstorm which was turning more dangerous by the moment.

_The trio passed by tree after tree, climbing over hill after hill looking for a cave a, crevasse something that would provide them cover from their predicament. Instead, they only found another hill. The family continued on for several hours trudging through the fast accumulating snow. _

As afternoon turned to into evening the family stopped resembling a father ocelot and his two sons, and started looking more like walking snow-creatures. They were freezing from the outside in and would soon perish in the blinding white death.

_“I can't feel my paws." Cavin said to his younger brother Corey. _

“Papa are we going to die?" Corey said to his father as they climbed over yet another hill.

“I am afraid so." The ocelot father said. “I am sorry boys- I was hoping our hiking trip would be a chance for us to bond a little more after your mom left.- A memorable trip for all of us. But it looks like it will be our last trip together. I am so sorry- what is that?!"

_“What is what?" Cavin said shivering. “A clearing here?" _

_The trio came to a complete stop as they noticed the forest they were in abruptly ended. _

“Yeah it is a clearing." The ocelot father exclaimed looking around. “ But why here in the middle of no where?"

“Look a house!" Corey said.

_Cavin and his father directed their attention to the center of the clearing they could just make out a snowy covered- something. The wind and snowfall made it quite difficult to stare in that direction. _

“This way!" Corey said directing the others to follow him.

The trio approached the object ahead of them. It was covered by snow, but it indeed was a house- which seemed to appear right from the landscape. The structure was rectangular in shape, had two floors, three apex roofs two at each side and one in the center that was supported by two columns that adorned the porch and front door. The house was just large enough that it could be mistaken for a small mansion.

“A house out here in the middle of no where?! Any old structure in the midst of a storm will do." Cavin said as he walked toward the front door and knocked on it.

The ocelot family noticed that there were lights on in the snow covered structure and they could just make out movement in the interior from those lights. The structure was definitely inhabited. But the occupants hesitated, refusing to come to the door.

_“Please! Please! Help!" The ocelot father pleaded pounding on the front door of the house. “My family and I are lost and need of help!" _

After a long minute or two, the front door finally opened. “You mortals need help with something?" A six foot tall figure in a dark robe asked the ocelot family in the fading daylight.

“Please sir! My boys and I are lost and freezing. We are in desperate need of shelter!" The ocelot father said to the covered figure who had answered the door.

_The being thought for a moment, then turned and ordered the ocelots. “This way." _

Cavin noted that as the being turned to lead them into its house, that he never did get a good look at his face. At least he thought it was a 'he'.

Just then another image appeared on the view screen and the movie shrunk to a small square and moved into the upper right corner.

“Hey! What the?" I said exasperated. “This was starting to get good! What gives?!"

It was the middle of the week and Lady Ursa and I were unwinding after a long day by watching a live movie on the hub cuddled together on the sectional. That was until it was abruptly interrupted.

“It is an incoming call!" My she beast said.

“The view screen never did that when I receive a call!" I protested. “Whoever is on the other end was able to see everything I was watching on the hub even when I didn't want them to!"

“You probably didn't have that particular option enabled at the time." Lady Ursa chided me as the image of our movie interrupter appeared.

“Lady Ursa and Alex, good evening!" A otter lady said greeting the both of us. “You look particularly cozy together."

“Hi professor Love, how are you?" I said trying to pause the movie so I wouldn't miss anything- it wouldn't.

“Do you both like watching the hub in your ah, undergarments?" The otter lady asked.

“It is how we prefer to unwind around here after a long day." I said realizing that professor Love was probably looking at the loin cloth I was wearing and the undershirt and shorts my mistress was wearing.

“To what do we owe the pleasure?" My ursine warrior said as she greeted my tutor.

“I was calling to inform Alex that his classes for tomorrow have been canceled; I have a another engagement with several of my students." She said to the both of us.

“What type of engagement?" Lady Ursa asked.

“I am taking them on a field trip to the History Museum at World One. They have a new exhibit- a time capsule which they will be opening tomorrow morning. So I will not be able tutor Alex." Professor Love said.

“You hear that Alex? You have the day off tomorrow. So you can stay up a little later this evening." My mistress said.

“Day off tomorrow, that's nice." I said trying to watch the movie.

“You have to forgive Alex this evening." My mistress said to the otter lady. “He is fully engrossed in the movie we're watching."

“What one is that?" The otter lady asked.

“Day and Night." My she beast responded.

“Oh the one about the ocelot family stranded in the highlands during a snowstorm? That one is a classic!" The otter lady responded.

“Yeah, it is shown this time every year uninterrupted- that is why Alex can't pause it." My mistress said snickering. “You are right this is a classic classic movie. I especially love the part where the younger ocelot cub...."

My she beast started to say until I glared at her and then my tutor. “No spoilers!" I growled to the two females annoyed.

“I think Alex very much wants to get back to his movie." The otter lady said smiling. “See you in a couple of days." With that she ended the call.

As soon as the transmission ended. The small window the movie had been playing in, expanded back to its full size. I cuddled my she beast as we resumed watching.

Thank goodness we hadn't missed too much:

“Uh thank you mister, ah mister...." Cavin started to say as they followed the hooded figure into a long hall way.

“Since it is almost night, you can call me- Day, Mr. Day. What brings you small ocelots to our humble abode?" The being asked quite coldly.

“Humble?! Wow this place must be mega old!" Corey exclaimed looking at the period furniture, colored walls and art work that seemed like they were from a century gone by or several previous.

“Corey!" Cavin chided his little brother.

“Mr. Day, my boys and I were on a day long hiking trip in the uplands here. We had planned this family outing together a few weeks ago." The ocelot father said to the mysterious being.

“Everything was going fine until this freak storm appeared out of no where and we were caught up in it before we knew it!" Cavin said as the group walked by an a spiraling staircase with an intricate banister.

“Freak storms have been known to happen in these parts. It must have been difficult for you to navigate through the storm with your small stature." Mr. Day added. As they arrived into the what could be described as the living room of the house.

_“The storm has grown increasingly fierce with each passing hour, there was no way we would have lasted any longer out there." The ocelot father said looking around the great room as he let the being's short comment pass. “Mr. Day we are lost and in desperate need of shelter for the duration of the storm." _

Cavin and Corey joined their father examining the so called living room. It was adorned with a sofa, three chairs, fireplace and windows which had the curtains drawn on them. Standing eerily next to the fireplace were two additional dark hooded beings each slightly smaller than Mr. Day.

_Before the ocelot family knew what had happened, the three hooded figures had promptly removed them from their snow cover clothing- including their pants, shirts, socks and placed them on three chairs in front of the fireplace. The warmth from the building fire felt so, so good. _

_As the ocelot family started to thaw, the hooded beings approached them. “So you are seeking protection and shelter from the storm is it?" Mr. Day said as he joined the other two beings who were standing just to the right of Corey and Cavin. _

_The two beings looked at Mr. Day and he looked at them- not a word was said between the two. After a brief pause. “Very well you can stay, but the price will be quite high." _

“It is ok, we have money." Cavin responded.

_“Why do mortals think that all debts can be paid with currency?" The middle being, a female said to Mr. Day. _

_“They do have a tendency to think that way." Mr. Day said removing his hood. _

“That they do father." The third hooded figure said as he removed his hood.

_It was at this moment that the ocelot family got a good look at the Day family- their hosts for the evening. As the last of the daylight gave way to night fall the Day family had removed their hooded robes. The ocelots realized they were looking at a family of bats standing quite taller than themselves- a father, mother and son, with the son appearing to be close to Cavin's age. The Day family's clothing underneath their robes, like their house also appeared to be also several centuries old. _

Calvin ran over to greet Mr. Day's son. The boy was several feet taller than he was standing about five feet, he was brown with a prominent snout like a dog's but smaller, he had green eyes, large triangular shaped ears, sharp claws and wing like structures attached to his paws. But what stood out most were the sharp fangs.

“How are you?" Cavin asked shaking the boy's paw. “I am Cavin!"

The bat regarded him oddly. “These mortals are quite friendly father!" The boy said. “I am fine, but you need to finish thawing out." With that Cavin was placed back into the chair and given a warming drink. It tasted like chocolate.

At the same time Corey ran up to greet Mrs. Day who was slightly taller than her son but her coloring was black in contrast to her mate who was grey. She also had the same features as her son only her eyes were red.

_Corey started to greet her but stopped mid-sentence and just stared at her large ears, pointed snout and fangs. _

“This one is quite curious and adorable for a mortal." Mrs. Day said as she placed Corey back into his chair in front of the fire and gave him a similar warming drink.

At the same moment the ocelot father went to shake Mr. Day's paw. “Thank you for taken us in this evening Mr. Day, my boys and myself would have surely perished had you refused to answer the door."

The grey bat outstretched his paw to meet the ocelot father's. “I suppose kindness is its own reward." The grey bat started to grin almost evilly.

Mr. Day also escorted the ocelot father back to his chair giving him a warming drink as well, which seemed to thaw out the ocelot patriarch almost instantly.

Corey continued to stare at Mrs. Day while he and Cavin finished thawing out. It was as the young ocelot was trying to process everything he had seen since entering the house. There was something odd about their hosts. Why did they refer to him, his brother and father as mortals? Corey thought for a moment more then it hit him.

“Vampires!" Corey exclaimed. “They are vampires- old ones too!"

“What?! Cavin exclaimed.

“Are you sure you aren't mistaken little one?" Mrs. Day teased Corey. “We could be demons."

“No." Corey responded. “The old furniture, the hooded clothing, the fangs and only being active at night- you're vampires."

“The young mortal is quite bright mother." The Day's son said.

“I thought vampires only existed in fairy tales and folklore. Let alone kind vampires." The ocelot father said looking at the she bat and her son. “So thank you for taking us in for the night. We are so sorry to intrude."

“Not a problem at all." Mrs. Day said. “We were thinking about going out to eat this evening but since we now have company we can dine in."

“Dine in?!"

Hearing that startling revelation from the lady vampire, the ocelot father turned white. He thought being caught in the snowstorm would have been deadly for him and his family. But being caught in a den of vampires, make that hungry vampires was even worse than that. He realized with a shocking sense of finality that he and his sons were not long for this world.

_The ocelot father arose from his chair and dropped to his paws and knees in the front of Mr. Day. _

“Please sir! Please spare our lives! I forced my boys on this trip with me after their mother left; they did not come willingly. Had I known this was going to happen, I would not have made them come! If not me, then please spare them! They are so young they have not even begun to live." The ocelot father wept.

“No." The vampire patriarch said coldly.

_Realizing their predicament, Calvin groveled at the feet of the Day's son hugging the younger vampire's legs as he pleaded for his family's lives. _

“No! no! no! no! no! no!" Calvin cried in disbelief.

_The young vampire gently placed his paw on Calvin's head as if he was about to comfort the teenage ocelot. But he didn't. He raised Cavin's eyes to lock onto to his as he taunted the boy: _

_“Your denial is quite amusing mortal!" He said with a devilish grin. “But yes! yes! yes! yes! yes! yes!" _

Mr. Day darted behind the ocelot father placing him in a choke hold at blinding speed. The lady vampire and her son did the same thing to Corey and Cavin.

_“Remember that high price I spoke about?" Mr. Day taunted the now weeping ocelot father. “It is time!" He said as he sat down in the ocelot father's chair holding his prey like he was a ventriloquist's dummy. _

The lady vampire did the same with Corey and their son did the same to Cavin.

“Skies will rain fire, oceans will boil, streets will run red! Only then after your last pitiful hope is extinguished will I end your life! Maw haw haw!" The younger vampire said to Calvin looking him directly in the eyes.

Cavin similarly turned pale and peed himself. He also started hiccuping.

“Derek! how many times have I told your not to torment your food!" Mrs. Day said chastising her son. “Now go clean him up!"

Derek huffed as he grabbed Calvin and darted away. Derek took the boy into a small wash room off of the living room, where he removed the boy's underwear. He promptly cleaned it and Cavin almost at the same time. The young vampire moved at such blinding speed that Cavin could only see a blur until the vampire had finished.

“There nice and clean." The younger vampire huffed.

_Cavin had just enough time to realized that Derek had stripped him naked, washed his nether regions, cleaned his underwear and then reclothed him in almost an instant. _

Derek then picked up the ocelot teenager and darted back to the living room to rejoin his parents as they were about to start dinner.

Corey looked up at Mrs. Day who looked down at the young ocelot curiously. “ You are going to kill us?!" The young boy asked sadly.

_“Hey, everybody's has to eat." She said coldly. _

“But, but we only just met! You don't even know us!" Corey protested.

_“Have you ever introduced yourself to every meal you were about to eat?" The lady vampire said to the ocelot cub. _

There was a pregnant pause while Corey thought that one over.

“Oh very well! Corey is it?" The lady vampire said looking at her mate. “Well hi little one, I am Mrs. Day and I will be eating you this evening! Don't worry little one, you won't suffer long at all!" Mrs. Day said showcasing her fangs. “Two small bite marks on your neck and I will drain you completely. Your death will be instantaneous- almost!"

Just then Derek returned after cleaning up Calvin. Who was still hiccuping.

“Finally, let's eat!" Mr. Day said as he flared his fangs preparing to feed on the ocelot father who was still weeping.

Derek flared his fangs preparing to do the same to Calvin.

“I am so sorry boys our trip ended like this! At least we will be together when we die!" The ocelot father bleated as the vampire patriarch's fangs pierced his neck.

_The vampire started to drink from the ocelot father's neck- he was going to suck him dry. As he did he observed the ocelot cubs quivering with their eyes closed, preparing for their deaths as well. Mr. Day paused for a moment then turned to his mate and son. _

“No."

“Dearest?" Mrs. Day said to Mr. Day.

_“No fangs. I don't want corpses stinking up the house. Take just enough to satisfy your thirst nothing more." _

With that Mr. Day withdrew his fangs and dropped the ocelot father to his side. “This will only hurt for a moment." He said as he used a clawtip to cut into the ocelot father's right shoulder and started sucking on the blood that oozed out.

“Father?!" Derek asked.

“This family did not ask for this to happen to them. Besides these mortals have such a pitifully short life span as it is anyways. Mmmm.... A positive." Mr. Day exclaimed as he continued to suck the life giving fluid from the ocelot.

_“I see father, if we ration our food, it will last longer and we won't have to go out to eat especially during this snowstorm." Derek said as he looked demonically at Cavin who continued hiccuping. _

Derek cut Calvin's shoulder with a clawtip and started sucking as well. “This one is B positive."

Mrs. Day retracted her fangs as she steadied Corey. “No fangs tonight just a small slice little one." She said as she cut the boy's shoulder and started suck as well. “Mmmmm.... B positive."

The vampires drank just enough from the ocelot family to quench their thirst but not to satisfy their hunger. They would indeed need to feed again but not for a while.

“Oh I, feel, weak." The ocelot father exclaimed as the vampires started to clean and dress his and his son's wounds.

“I know the feeling." Derek said sarcastically.

“That is due to blood loss." Mr. Day said as he bandaged up the wounds to the ocelot father's shoulder and neck. “Lie still."

_“Mercy?" Calvin asked between hiccups. _

_“For now." Derek said as he bandaged Calvin's shoulder while giving the ocelot a perverse look. _

“Ma'am?" Corey asked.

“Yes child?"

_“You showed us mercy?" Corey asked asked as the lady vampire bandaged up his shoulder. _

“I guess some of us still remember what it was like to be mortal and to fear our own demise." The lady vampire responded.

“Uh, how old are you?" The young ocelot asked the lady vampire.

_ “About five centuries. 'Mr. Mercy' over there is about five and 1/2 half and Derek is only two centuries." Mrs. Day responded._

“Woooow!" The young ocelot exclaimed. “You were mortal once?" Corey asked. “How? What happened?"

_The Day family exchanged curious glances at each other. _

_“Since you treated us to dinner, I guess it would only be fair." Mr. Day said. _

“Please." The father ocelot begged regaining some composure. “It doesn't look like the storm will be abating any time soon." Besides, he was scared at what the vampire family might do to him and his brood next.

“First these mortals want shelter and safety and now they want to be entertained?" Mrs. Day exclaimed. “You will probably want some pillows and something to eat next."

_“Please?" Calvin said as he and his brother sat at the lady vampire's paws. They were soon joined by their father. _

_“Start out with how you and Mr. Day met!" Corey begged. _

_The lady vampire looked at her mate who nodded. _

“Well, it was a long, long time ago, I remember it as it was yesterday....."

One again the movie was interrupted by another incoming call.

“UGH! DUH! WHAT?!" I blurted out as our concentration was broken. “Seriously?!"

It was professor Love again.

“Sorry to interrupt. But I thought about our conversation from earlier. The field trip tomorrow might also be a good learning experience for Alex. I am also in need of a additional chaperon to watch my other students." The otter lady said to my mistress. “Since Alex has already toured the museum I believe it would be a good fit."

“I agree." My she beast responded looking at the time.

“Great! Meet me at the museum at 9 AM tomorrow Alex!" Professor Love said ending the call.

“Um, 9 AM tomorrow." I muttered. Anything to get back to the movie.

_The vampires apparently entertained the ocelot family through out the evening, the night and into the early hours of the morning. When Mrs. Day finished her story, daybreak had already begun. Outside the storm still raged. _

_“Wow you bit him and then what happened next?" Corey exclaimed jumping on the lady vampire's lap. _

“That will have to wait until evening. It is time for rest."

“Aww!!!" Corey protested.

“Looks like the storm has not abated." Mr. Day said closing the curtains. “You will be staying with us a while longer."

“Which means?" Calvin asked.

“Which means you will be keeping our hours- you will sleep when we sleep." Derek responded to the teenage ocelot.

“Yes, we can't have you wandering around getting into trouble can we?" Mr. Day said to the ocelot family.

“Aw, but I am not sleepy!" Corey protested to the lady vampire. The story she had told had completely fascinated and entertained him the entire evening and through out the night as well.

Mrs. Day cradled the young ocelot in her arms, kissed him on his forehead and looked him directly in the eyes as she uttered one word- “sleep!"

_“But, I am not sleepy!" Corey protested as he drifted off into slumber. _

“I will take this one." Mrs. Day said as she arose from her chair and carried Corey from the room.

Derek left the room and returned with a blanket which he then encased Calvin and himself in it- “I guess we will be bed buddies as well."

_“You aren't going to suck me dry while I sleep are you?" Calvin gasped. _

“No promises!" Derek responded coldly.

Calvin looked at the young vampire and started hiccuping again.

Annoyed, Derek grabbed the ocelot boy by his neck and stared him directly in the eyes as well. “Sleep!" He ordered.

Calvin fell on Derek's chest into a deep slumber.

“I hope that I don't have to compel you to sleep as well." Mr. Day said as he picked up the ocelot father and carried him off into another room of the house. “Oh, and we need to talk about your diet...."

“URK!" Was all the ocelot patriarch could say as he was carried off by the vampire.

“That will be it for the evening." My she beast said as she turned off the view screen.

“What did you do that for?! The movie isn't over!" I said exasperated.

“That's right pet, and it won't be for another couple of hours. Which would be after midnight."

“But, but, but..." I protested.

“In case you forgot, you have a appointment tomorrow with your tutor. That makes tonight a REGULAR night." My mistress said rising from the sectional. “You need your rest."

“Oh bother!" I mumbled as Lady Ursa picked me up and started to carry me to her chambers. “Just when it was getting interesting too! I suppose I can look for it in the list of movies later this week."

“Not really pet." My she beast said with a wry smile. “That particular movie is only shown live. Once a year."

“But mistress what happened?! Did the ocelot family survive? Did the vampires suck them dry?! I have to know or the suspense will simply kill me." I whined as we arrived at her chambers and she started to remove my loin cloth. She then removed her clothing as well placing everything into the closet.

After she had done so, my fierce ursine warrior sat on her bed and placed me on her lap like Mr. Day had done to the ocelot father.

“Well if you must know, the ocelot family stayed with the vampires for six days. The snow storm raged for three and then it took an additional three days for the snow to melt. During that time the vampires sheltered, entertained, fed and protected the ocelot family. In return the ocelots fed the vampires. If you know what I mean." Lady Ursa said snickering. “On the sixth day just before dawn, the Day family let the ocelots go- but not before compelling them to forget their entire encounter. The father and his cubs protested. But the vampire patriarch told them it would be for the best otherwise their lives would become “extremely complicated."

“Oh my gosh! That sucks." I said as my mistress kissed me on my cheek with that snout of hers.

“The next thing the ocelot family remembered was returning to the starting point of their hike with no recollection of how they had gotten there, why they had bandaged cuts on their shoulders or where they had been for the last six days. However, the ocelot father did find a note in his jacket warning him to have his cholesterol checked." My she beast said snickering. Lady Ursa then looked me directly in my eyes. “Now sleep!" She said as if she were a vampire compelling me.

“Yes mistress." I responded.

My she beast laid me on my right shoulder on her bed and embraced me from behind resting her chin on my forehead. I as usual, I rested the back of my head on her soft plump breasts and my bottom in her crotch. As I prepared to drift off to sleep with this amazing individual, I thought about this evening's events.

“Mistress?"

“Yes pet?"

“How long was that movie?"

“About five hours."

“We started watching it at 8 PM and it was supposed to finish well after midnight, there was no way we could have finished it before our bedtimes. So why did you let me watch it if you knew you would have to pull me away kicking and screaming regardless of whether I had tomorrow off or not?" I asked.

My she beast didn't respond but just grinned and laughed. I had been had.

“Mistress you can be most devious and cruel at times." I replied.

My she beast said nothing more, as she slid her paw down my side to grope my butt.
