Here's the second episode of my newest story. I'll try to get back to some of my incomplete stories and finish up their latest chapters, but I'm making no promises here.

Aside from that, hope you have a good read, ladies and gents.

In the morning, Jason open his eyes with some effort, he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, lifting his head and looking around, his head throbbing softly, seems like the remnants of some hangover… although he doesn't drink.

He turned to the door just as it opened, revealing Krueger, the chimp doctor giving him his signature smile. “Hey there Jason. How're you feeling today?" He took the chair that sat beside the bed.

Jason was still feeling lightheaded, his sight still blurry. “Still tired for some reason, although I slept early." He scratched his head softly. “My head hurts a bit."

“It's understandable…" Krueger stated before pausing for a few seconds. “You were… hit pretty hard."

“Hit by what?" Then it suddenly came back to Jason… he remembered… the pillow, the gunshot and finally, the blackness.

“Looks like you do remember." Krueger noticed the look of recognition on the human's face, his smile gone for the moment.

“I… I was shot… I'm supposed to be dead," Jason stated as he rubbed his forehead softly.

“Well you clearly aren't." Then Krueger thought of his next question. “When did you go to bed last time?"

“Last night… around 8… 9 pm I think."

Krueger stayed silent for a few seconds, part of his smile returned. “You've been asleep the whole weekend." Jason sat there, his lower jaw almost falling to his lap, electing a chuckled out of the doctor. “Oh believe me, after what happened, you needed it. Before you ask, how about we leave it be for now."

Jason closed his eyes, still feeling a bit tired. Krueger noticed so he stood up and lightly pushed Jason back on the bed. “Get some rest. We'll talk more when you wake up again."

Jason closed his eyes and turned to his side, facing away from the door, just as Krueger closed the curtains then the lights of the room before leaving.

Krueger walked back to his office, once inside he closed the door and let out a held back breath of relief.

He checked his hand, still throbbing softly and bandaged up, he managed to hide it from Jason, unable to find a way to explain it to the human.

He clearly remembered when he got those bandages.

************************************

Dr. Sorasa let out a loud scream as the human-turned-beast lunged at her, clearly aiming for her neck, but she held up her arm in defence, so he- it took what it got.

Everyone including Krueger were frozen stiff from the sight of the beast. It was Wolf who woke up first, shaking his head awake from whatever fright-induced trance they were all in. “Open fire!"

The moment that the order left his mouth, he and the other two officers began unloading their magazines, all hitting beast-Jason head-on, forcing him off of Sorasa and back a couple of feet.

The doctor kicked at him and began shuffling away, only for her ankle to be grabbed and roughly pulled back, right before two rows of needle sharp fangs sank into her shoulder and biting deeper and deeper, the beast shaking its head and her shoulder as if trying to dislodge or tear it off. All the while Sorasa was screaming her head off from the pain.

“Open fire, dammit!" Wolf commanded as he was reloading his gun.

“Sir, we might hit the hostage!" One of the officers replied as he aimed his reloaded gun.

“JASON!!" Krueger shouted suddenly… surprisingly the beast stopped mauling at Sorasa and looked up at the chimp. “Stop it… you don't have to do this… this is not you." He began inching closer towards the beast, regardless of Wolf's complaints and warnings.

Beast-Jason snarled at him, while Sorasa whimpered pathetically under him, but Krueger remained determined to calm him down. “Look… you're sick, I know… let us help you… let me help you." Krueger inched closer and closer towards the growling beast, until he was at arm's reach.

Only to hear the click of a gun behind him, which was heard by Jason as well, as the beast swiped its sharp talons at him, he managed to dodge back at the last second.

The moment he hit the ground and held his hand, Wolf and the officers opened fire once again, this time using lethal ammo. “NO!" Krueger screamed as Jason was filled with bullet holes.

Once they were done, the beast let out a final low growl before slumping backwards and falling to the ground. Krueger was beside him instantly, completely ignoring the sobbing anatomist as he shook Jason as hard as he could, calling his name again and again.

Then he saw it… Jason's features began slowly changing and morphing again, this time back to human… his eyes dead and clouded over and his complexion pale and drained.

“Caldrus!" Krueger called to the dragon nurse standing way back. “Get Bren and prep the ER!" He managed to lift Jason up enough to hold him up by one shoulder.

Caldrus simply nodded and began racing down the stairs, meeting Bren the weasel halfway and delivering the doctor's message.

“What do you think you're doing?!" Wolf demanded as Krueger walked past them, dragging Jason along. “He just attempted murder and you want to save him."

“Yeah murder, against the person who tried to kill him first?!" Krueger replied with dreadful sarcasm. “I think that's called self-defence. Now you either get out of my way or help." The chimp doctor resumed heading to his destination without waiting for a replay.

“What about her?" One of the other officers asked, pointing back towards Sorasa, who was still moaning in pain on the floor.

“The bitch can go to hell for all I care." With that Krueger resumed his way to the ER, dragging a dead Jason along with him.

_______________________

Finally at the ER, Jason was laid out on the table, Krueger and both male nurses, Bren and Caldrus, doned their surgical uniform and began the process of removing the bullets from Jason's body. Bren almost lost the rest of his stomach's contents a couple of times.

Once the last bullet was removed, Krueger was surprised, but also frightened… as Jason's wounds began slowly closing again. “Caldrus hold him down!"

Kruger barely managed to instruct the dragon, when Jason's eyes shot open along with his body, the human growling and snarling like a rabid animal, snapping his jaws at the dragon as Caldrus held him down on the bed.

Krueger was stumped now, the anesthetic he used along with the tranquilizer should have kept him asleep until morning. But here he was trying to bite into the closest morsel he could reach.

Then an idea came to him… one that he might regret fro a while. He took off his gloves and pulled up his sleeve, right before pushing Caldrus out of the way.

Jason, seeing this, turned to the doctor and lunged at him, just as the doctor lifted his hand instinctively in defence, once the human(beast)'s fangs sunk in, he began feeling the blood in his arm draining out.

He groaned in pain as Jason held his arm tightly, bruising it in his firm grip. “That's it Jason… drink your fill… that's it, calm down now." As Jason was drinking away, the color began returning to his face, literally, life slowly returning to his eyes as they slowly regained their color, the fog clearing away.

The only indication that Jason had his fill was when his grip loosened and his body slumped down on the floor, over Krueger's own. The chimp noticed how Jason was now sleeping, breathing normally and was generally human. “Caldrus, take him back to his room."

Caldrus picked up the human easily and began the trek back to his room, while Bren tended to the doctor's arm, who was feeling numb and tired from losing all that blood.

_________________________

The next day, Jason was still sleeping as Krueger peeked in through the window looking into the room, softly rubbing his arm which was bandaged from the elbow to his wrist.

“Where is he?!" The doctor heard someone yelling in the distance, followed by stomping their way towards him.

When Krueger looked in their direction, he saw a tall and wide-shouldered Tigren speed walking towards Jason's room. He made his way towards the guy, intercepting him halfway. “May I help you sir?"

“Where's the bastard that attacked my darling niece?!" So this idiot's the bitch's uncle.

“I'm afraid you got it backwards sir, it was your 'darling' niece that-" Krueger didn't get to finish.

“I don't give a fuck who started, I want that bastard's head, RIGHT NOW!!" The tall man was fuming, Krueger could almost see steam coming out of his ears.

“Mr. Sorasa please, this is a hospital." Krueger looked behind the guy, to find Wolf and another guy on the Tigren's tail.

“All of you need to calm down and shut the fucking hell up, you're in a hospital and there are patients who need their rest." Krueger stated calmly, but firmly.

But it was no use. “How dare you talk to me like that?! Do you fucking know who I am?!" Krueger simply raised a brow, no wonder the doctor turned out to be such a spoiled bitch.

“Captain! Remove this cretin from my sight and take me to that… human." Mr. Sorasa ordered Wolf as he crossed his arms.

“Sir please, I told you the ISF will take care of this whole thing." Wolf tried calming the big tiger down, the canine-like xeno looking almost too small to look at with his ears down and tail almost between his legs.

“If I may sir." The third person walked up to the chimp. He had the face of some feline, but his ears were jagged like a bat's wings and his eyes were all black, no iris or pupil. “I'm Diase from Pantheo Prime's Judicial office. I'm here to represent Mr. Sorasa and his niece in the case against a Jason Renolds. If you could be kind and point us in the direction of his room, we'll be 'quietly' on our way."

“And if I don't?" Krueger challenged as he crossed his arms.

“Then I'm afraid we'll have captain Wolf arrest you for interfering with Judicial affairs."

Krueger looked back at Wolf, who tried to make himself small enough to disappear. The chimp simply chuckled. “'Judicial affairs' he says. You call ganging up on a patient who was only defending himself against his attacker 'Judicial affairs'?"

Just as Sorasa was about to speak. “Oh dear me, is there a problem here doctor?" They turned in the direction of the deep, but calm and mirthful voice.

A doberman canid was walking calmly in their direction, followed by a white-furred vulpin and a sabretooth felin. He was wearing a dark brown suit with a black and yellow striped tie. His body was clearly fit and well-built as his suit slightly strained against his body mass. His smile was small, mischievous, but it clearly held a horrid intent behind it and his dark brown hair smoothed back neatly and glimmering from hair gel.

“M-Mr. Don, si-s-sir!" Wolf stuttered out and instantly saluted.

“Captain." Don acknowledged Wolf with a small nod, then turned to the two standing in front Krueger. “I'll ask again… is there a problem here?"

The attorney was suddenly having trouble breathing as he fixed his collar. “Well, it's um… uh… hehe, you see… the problem is, um… "

“Okay, okay. Calm down now, you won't be of any help fainting." Then he turned to the tall tigren, who easily towered over the doberman, but was sweating buckets.

But before Mr. Sorasa could speak, Krueger jumped in. “These two… " He pointed at both Dias and Sorasa. “Thought it would be hilarious to try and twist the arm of a helpless patient. One who was only defending himself from getting murdered." They turned to the chimp who had a wide grin on his face.

“Oh dear me. Is that true Captain?" Wolf was looking everywhere, biting his lower lips and trying to come up with something to say, cause simply lying to this person would result in his head rolling in a heartbeat.

The sabretooth walked up to the captain, his expression irritated and his arms crossed angrily. “Mr. Don asked you a question."

Just as something popped in Wolf's head. “That must be young Jason, is it?" They turned to Don who was standing in front of the window of Jason's room.

Sorasa then finally found his voice. “Sir, he attacked my niece! He's dangerous and should be locked up in a pen o-or a kennel of sorts. He can't be left to roam the streets!"

“Blaine?" Don asked his vulpin assistant, who was wearing a navy blue suit and fully black tie and looked all professional-like with a pair of square glasses. “Did I… 'accidentally' say that Mr. Sorasa may speak?"

“No sir, you didn't give permission to Mr. Sorasa to speak, accidentally or otherwise," the vulpin replied matter-of-factly, almost like a machine.

“Then why is he speaking to me so casually?" The doberman's tone was still calm and mirthful, but the meaning behind these questions were clear.

“Because he's a stupid old coot and is unable to comprehend his pathetic and insignificant position in life." Anyone who heard could pretty much hear the whip cracks that followed after each casual insult.

“Ouch, hammering it in a bit too hard, don't you think?" Don stated as he chuckled the words out.

“I only call them as I see them, sir."

“Very well then." Don then slowly walked up to Sorasa, who looked pretty close to wetting his pants. “You heard him, so may I ask who gave you permission to speak?" He held his hand to stop the tiger from speaking. “On second thought don't, you're breath is already polluting the air enough."

Then Don walked back to Jason's window, hands behind his back. Upon a closer inspection, he now knew why his superior was interested in this human, the recognition planting a wider smile on his face.

“Mr. Sorasa, Dias." He turned to them slowly. “I would like you to spread the word: if anything happens or anyone tries to harm this human, they'll have to answer to me and you know that I'm not the… most forgiving type."

The two couldn't get out of there quick enough as they almost tripped on themselves and each other a few times. Then Don turned to Wolf who saluted and was still sweaty buckets. “You know that I hate repeating myself, captain." Wolf silently nodded as he speed-walked out of there as fast as he can.

“I never get tired of watching you flaunt your position around like this," Krueger stated as he stood besides Don. “So what's your business here old friend? I personally didn't call you."

“My superior felt that this… Jason's well being might be in danger, but you know how busy he is so he sent me to investigate."

“Well remind me to thank him. He saved an innocent man's life… quite strange considering his… profession."

“I know, right? But I can clearly see why he's willing to invest so much into this young man."

“And that thing being?"

Don turned to Krueger, clicking his tongue and waving a finger in the chimp's face. “I'm afraid that's classified, even to you my friend… for the time being at least." Then with that, Don and his associates began their walk away and out of the hospital.

************************************

At his office, Krueger checked his arm one last time before going through some reports for the day.

___________________________

Jason woke up with the sun shining in his face. He blinked a few times before raising himself from his bed, which he returned to after a quick trip to the bathroom.

He was feeling somewhat refreshed today, like he could go on a countrywide marathon… twice!

Just as he was about to get out of bed, the door opened and there was that refreshing scent of spring, just as Mary came in, wearing a wide smile on her face. “Oh, you're okay!" She came to him and held him in a tight hug around the neck.

“Everyone thought that you were hurt." Jason gave her a confused look with a tilt of his head. “Oh, everyone got the news that you got into an emergency surgery a few nights ago. Dr. Krueger refused to divulge details." She released him, wiping small stray tears from her eyes.

Jason was about to reply, only for the door to slam open with a short blur practically flying in and on his bed. “Jay-Jay!!" Falon hugged him even tighter than Mary, sobbing his heart out. He pulled back, his body trembling and shaking with every sob, tears and snot running freely. “I… t-thought that you're… y-you're… de-d-ead."

Jason couldn't help but smile as he hugged the crying boy back, softly caressing his head. He noticed the nurse in charge of Falon watching from the door, he gestured for her to leave him here for a while, to which she nodded and left to attend to other duties.

Once Falon calmed down, both he and Mary sat on either side of Jason's bed, talking about his near-death experience, or what Jason could remember at least.

After a few minutes, Krueger came in, wearing his signature smile as usual, with a small tray of food in hand. “Hey there, I see that you're awake." Mary stood up, suddenly remembering her duties, giving a quick head bow before leaving, dragging Falon along, reminding him of his medicine.

Krueger placed the tray in Jason's lap. “How're you feeling?"

Jason smiled widely as he took hold of the small sandwich. “Pretty good. Feel somewhat refreshed actually." He took a small bite of the sandwich, chewing a few times before his tongue picked up the taste. Then he suddenly wolfed it down, barely chewing properly between mouthfuls.

Then he turned to the soup, taking a testing sip, then a bigger sip… then spoonfuls, right before grabbing the bowl itself and slurping the whole soup in big gulps.

He placed the bowl down, wiping some stray soup with the back of his hand, his mouth was almost screaming with glee and his taste buds were dancing with joy. “The hell did you put in this food?! Tastes pretty awesome!! Is there more?"

Krueger chuckled as he gathered the tray. “You only get one helping for the time being, I'll get you more at lunch. If you feel refreshed, then a walk around the hospital grounds will do you good." Then he left.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Krueger sat in his office, checking his hand, or more precisely the new band-aids on his fingers, he decided to test his theory from the day of Jason's supposed 'death'... unfortunately, his theory was correct, he got a pretty clear idea of what Jason is becoming… or has already become.
_________________________
The next day, Jason was feeling too energetic to stay in his room so he decided to walk around the hospital, he was greeted by almost everyone in the hospital, patients, doctors and nurses alike, all congratulating him on his recovery.
As he was walking around the yard, he noticed an old man sitting all alone on a bench, he decided to be friendly since he was generally pretty chipper today.
“Hey there! Why're you all alone over here?" He greeted the old man, or old dog as he noticed the muzzle and fur, but the man's features made it difficult to discern the species.
“Oh, hello there young man. I just felt like being alone today, I don't mind a pretty nurse to keep me company, but fussing about everything I do gets pretty annoying after a while." The man responded as he looked straight forward. “Sorry, but my sight isn't what it used to be, where are you by the way?"
Jason sat down and placed a hand on the old dog's own. “To your left, sir."
“Oh what a polite young man you are, calling me sir and all that." The elder chuckled softly.
“Well I was told to respect people until they prove unworthy of it." Jason shrugged as he responded.
“Wise words, wise indeed." The man scratched his chin briefly. “My name's Eran and you are?"
“Jason sir. Jason Renolds."
“Oh! You're the one who had to go into some intensive surgery, right?" Jason just sat there wondering how word spread this fast. “Oh forgive me, I'm sure it was a horrible experience."
“Nah, I was asleep through it, so I didn't feel a thing." The human simply shrugged, like being in a surgery is no big deal.
They stayed together and talk about some random stuff, mostly Eran talking about 'the good old days'. Why do old people insist on talking about things that happened many generations ago?
They talked some more, until Krueger walked over to them, with a nurse in tow. The nurse spoke to Eran, reminding him of his medicine then nap time, to which he pouted like a small child, but in the end relented and went with her, leaving Jason with the chimp doctor.
“So Jason, I got some awesome news for you." The human stood up and waited for the news. Krueger reached into a folder that he had under his arm and pulled out some papers. Jason simply raised a brow. “These are your release papers."
Jason's eyes bugged out as a wide smile spread on his face. “That's awesome doc!" He grabbed Krueger in a tight hug while nuzzling the chimp's cheek like a pup. “Thanks a lot! Finally I get to leave that stuffy room." Then finally released the doctor.
“Yeah I know, but remember that I'm your caretaker, so you need to wait until I finish my shift before going anywhere."
Jason nodded as he pretty much ran back to his room. But once inside he remembered… his clothes were destroyed in the train crash and it's not like he was given a choice to pack before hand.
This pretty much killed the mood as he slumped on the bed, but it was no use thinking about that now, he'll figure out something when the time comes. So he opted to watch some TV until Krueger's shift ends.
___________________________
Jason stayed in his room for hours until the sun began setting behind the horizon.
After a few more minutes, Krueger came in with a few bags in hand, the logos on each looked like clothing shops. “Sorry about the wait, had to make a quick run to the mall and pick up a few things." He placed the bags on Jason's bed and dragged a chair closer.
“Are these for your child?" Jason asked as he inspected the bags and their logos.
“Nah, don't have a kid, thank all the known gods for that. These are for you actually."
“Oh co- wait what?!" Jason looked at the clothes inside and checked, his hand went for a hoodie, then a shirt, then all the other clothes. All were his size.
“Now before you go fussing, I wanted to do this. As your caretaker I have a duty to make your life here at least bearable and decent. So not a beep out of you, yeah?" Krueger never lost that smile on his face, in fact it seemed to grow wider.
“Well, um… thanks, I guess." Jason blushed as he got out of bed, grabbing a black hoodie, a pair of boxers and a pair of jeans, not really bothered by the doctor being there, he got out of his gown and put on his new clothes. Liking his decision, he modeled his attire to Krueger who seemed pleased with his choices.
“Alright, now I'll meet you by the door, just got to check a few things in my office. I left your release papers with reception, just state your name and give them mine if they ask and they'll let you sign." Then both left the room.
Jason found the reception area, it looked just like the hospitals back home, he imagined them to be all futuristic and cyber-punk like, but he's not complaining.
He did what Krueger asked and signed the papers, but noticed that the other nurse at reception was giving him some weird looks. He decided to dismiss those as he grabbed a seat at one of the chairs in the waiting area to do just that.
__________________________
Krueger finished up with some papers in his office and was just locking it up for the day. But when he turned, his eyes set on someone who he never thought would still be working here.
“You think you'll get away with this?! You and your… human boytoy?" Dr. Sorasa stood there, her coat around her shoulders and one arm in a cast and hanging from her neck.
He simply smirked and slowly stepped up to her. “Well dear, I believe I did days ago." His smile took a more sadistic feature. “You thought that your 'uncle dearest' was the strongest person in this universe? Well too bad. If you thought that your uncle has strong connections, then please do remember who you're talking to." He turned to leave before he stopped. “Oh and here's a message to your dear uncle." He gave her the finger before walking off to meet up with Jason. Leaving the doctor to seethe and boil in the hallway.
__________________________
Jason was shaken awake from his nap in the chair, he looked up to meet Krueger's gaze. He stood up as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. “Sorry, didn't realize that I fell asleep."
“It's okay, you've had a couple of hectic weeks here, it's pretty normal to be tired, but tonight you'll have better sleeping arrangements so you can have the best sleep in a while." Krueger tapped him a couple of times on the shoulder before ushering him out of the hospital.
Jason's jaws almost hit the floor as he saw the doctor's car, the design was clearly sporty, but he also noticed that it didn't have any wheels, the paint job was black in the back while the front half was of a burning flame. His jaw clacked as the doctor closed his mouth for him.
The doors slid upwards as they got near, the insides looked like a normal car from back home with manual transmission. Once the doors closed the car roared loudly to life as the insides lit up. Jason jumped slightly as a voice in the car spoke in a male robotic voice [Good afternoon doctor. What's our new destination?]
“Home Ollie and please mind the traffic this time." Once Krueger gave the instructions, Jason felt a small tremor before the car began floating and turning towards the main road.
Despite the car having an A.I., Krueger was the one driving, Ollie as he was called simply gave instructions towards the easiest and fastest routes to take. Just like any kind of GPS program 'Guess some things never change much' were his thoughts as the car finally joined the main highway.
Jason had his face plastered to the window as they passed building after tall building, he felt like he was in the middle of a futuristic New York, billboards, logos, shops, malls and neon signs all around and cars just like Krueger's own flying and floating back and forth all around them, all having different designs of course.
Jason felt like a child on his first day at an amusement park, everything was glittering and shining all around, a wide multitude of xenoes passing by back and forth, furries, scalies, all shapes, designs and sizes and he's sure that his eyes were playing him, but was that a yordle just now?
They passed some more buildings, until they looked smaller, Jason looked more closely and realized that the area they're in right now is for apartment complexes. 'So Krueger lives in an apartment, huh?' he thought as they kept passing complex after complex.
Finally they reached the suburbs, passing by decently sized houses that looked big enough for a small family, give or take a pet. The same thing with the city, they passed by many xenoes of different species… and there goes another yordle, do they actually exist?
They finally reached one house located somewhere in the middle of the suburbs, the garage door opened automatically as Krueger maneuvered the car inside. Once inside and secure, the A.I of the car spoke again [Welcome back, sir.]
They went inside the house and Krueger flicked the lights on, the house looked decent, not too bland nor too flashy, but sure looked like it belonged to someone with good fortune.
“Make yourself at home. Well… this will be your home until you can stand on your own in this world. But until then, I'm going to fulfill my duty as your caretaker," Kruger stated as they walked in, leaving Jason to get a feel of the place before doing anything else.
Jason did just that, slowly walking around the living room, feeling the walls and the furniture as he went, added with his new heightened sense of smell he was also getting multiple faint scents wafting around the room, 'Seems like Krueger likes having guests over, many at a time too." were the thoughts that passed by in his mind.
“How about a quick lunch? You didn't eat anything today, right?" Jason jumped slightly as Krueger spoke suddenly, simply nodding in reply to the chimp's offer. “Awesome, you can check out the rest of the house while you wait… oh, also you can have one of the rooms upstairs. I usually keep them for guests, but you'll be staying here for a while, so no harm in giving you one."
Jason did as he was told and made his way upstairs, minutes later he began hearing faint clanging of kitchen utensils and dishes. He reached the top and noticed rooms on either side, two rooms on each with the bathroom located right beside the staircase.
He peeked inside each room until he reached the fourth which was located on the far side on the left, once he neared the door he picked up the thick scent that belonged to Krueger, 'This must be his room.' he thought as he turned the handle and went inside. The room was pretty average in size, a king-size bed lying on one side of the room, a nightstand on one side and the wardrobe on the other, with a few feet between it and the bed.
A wide TV plus its stand sat on the other side facing the bed, with a couple of video players, Krueger's home work desk placed on the other side of the wide window, the sun shining almost right on the table. He began walking around, just as he did with the living room, getting a feel for the place, once he reached the desk he noticed a couple of picture frames sitting beside each other, it showed Krueger and a few of his friends it seemed, the location looked like a tropical island of sorts, everyone is decked out in summer clothing or simply wearing swimming trunks. However one individual stuck out the most as he was in all of the pictures, especially one of both him and Krueger alone. A triceratops with stripes resembling a tiger's all over his body.
He got a nagging feeling about the pictures, but nothing came to his mind. “Jason, lunch's ready!" Krueger called at him from downstairs, just as Jason placed down the picture frame and turned to leave, he felt that someone was watching the room, or, more precisely, him.
He turned to look out the window and looked around for a time, until he saw the house facing, through a small crack in the curtains he saw someone watching the house intently. The other person must have realized that they were found out as they closed the window instantly.
For an instant, Jason had a murderous look in his eyes, as some strange territorial instinct began emerging in him, this house is his den now and uninvited guests are most unwelcome. He was only woken up from it by Krueger's voice calling for him again.
____________________________
Jason leaned back in his seat on the kitchen table, sighing in content and tapping his belly. “Thanks for that Dr. Krueger, nothing beats home cooking."
“Come on, no need for such formalities anymore, just call me Daniel, or more preferably Dan. All my friends call me that and you're no exception," Krueger stated as he placed the dishes in the dishwasher, Jason smiled a bit lewdly as the chimp bent over slightly, his ass perking up inside those pants.
“Enjoying the view back there?" Krueger... Dan suddenly asked as he teasingly shook his ass. “Careful you don't burn another hole in it, it's one of my many appeals after all."
Jason, however, still had his eyes trained on those still-clothed cheeks. “Oh don't worry, won't let anything happen to those perfect buns of yours." The human chuckled softly at their little exchange. Then thought of his next words carefully. “Say: who's living in the house in front of us?"
Krueger turned to him after turning on the dishwasher. “Oh, that's just the Galvins. The father is a pretty decent guy, had him over a few times with a few others for some 'man time', but his wife and daughter are a bit, um… difficult." Jason opted to leave it there as he knew what Kruger was talking about, he himself knew a few men and women like that back home.
Then an idea came to Krueger. “How about you go and have a walk around the neighbourhood? Many of my friends know that I'll be caring for an outsider, so their pretty eager to meet you."
Jason just had an accusatory, but amused, look on his face. “So I'm just an advertisement to the fact?"
“Nah, nothing like that… okay, maybe a little bit, but it will do you good to get the lay of the land, as they say."
Jason tapped his chin a few times before standing up. “Guess I'll do that, a good exercise never hurt anyone anyway, right?"
Dan nodded. “Awesome, I'll stay home as I have some reports to finish up for the day, I also inputted your data into Ollie's scanners, he'll recognize you when you come back, so no need to worry about that part."
Jason nodded as he made his way to the door, putting on his shoes before head out. Now that he was outside, he got a better look at the neighbourhood, it was just like any suburb back home, many people walking back and forth on the sidewalk, children playing in their respective yards, people having bbqs or swimming in their pools… he needs to ask Krueger if they have a pool as well.
Just as he passed by one of the many houses, he heard someone calling for him. “Hey there boy, you're Krueger's new kid, right?" Jason turned to the voice and found a man leaning on his fence. He was pretty furry, almost like a clothed ball of fluff, Jason could barely locate the man's eyes under all that fur.
“Afternoon, yes that would be me. The name's Jason, Jason Renolds, pleasure to meet you." He extended a hand for the man, which he accepted in his over fluffed hand. Jason noticed the man's scent, it was… manly, for the lack of a better word, but faintly sweet, almost like freshly baked bread or toast.
“Edmond Branks, pleasure's all mine kid." Edmond's voice was deep, like he was almost getting up there in age, but not hoarse as expected. Jason noticed that this man's hands were almost like an ape's, furry on the back, but bare in the palms and under the fingers.
Jason smiled as he spoke to the man, then he suddenly his head whipped in the direction he came from, but there was nothing there. Edmond looked in the same direction. “All's good Jason?"
“Yeah… just felt like someone's watching me." He actually had that feeling from the moment he left Dan's house.
“Must've been Rosaline." The elder man spoke casually as he pulled his smoking pipe from his back pocket. Jason turned to him with a questioning look. “The Galvins' daughter. Not to speak ill of others, but the girl can be quite the conniving harpy and her mom is no different. Won't be surprised if she actually taught her girl how to suck the boys and men dry and I don't mean that in a good way."
After prepping and lighting up his pipe, Edmond took a long drag from it before letting it out. “Word of advice kid and I'm saying it whether you're into girls or not: Stay away from the Galvins, they spell nothing but trouble."
Jason thanked the man for his advice before going on his way.
On his way home, he passed by a few others who greeted him and he greeted back, the place was pretty great to live in so far, no problems, no one looking at him funny.
Just then, he noticed someone in front of Dan's house… peeking through the front window into the living room. He growled deeply to himself, a noise that no human should be able to produce as he came closer.
He grabbed the person, a human female who he judged to be barely in her late teens, with flowing brown hair of average length, she yelped as he grabbed her arm and pulled her up roughly. “May I help you?"
“Hey, let go of me!" she yelled at him as she punched his arm as hard as she can.
“Let me guess… Rosaline Galvin?" He asked, somehow already knowing the answer. Which was confirmed by her sudden silence.
Harrin Galvin was sitting in the living room of his house, the same house that he… shares with his wife and daughter, the very same house where his doubts about his marriage began to surface. The wolf began thinking about what he did in his life, trying to find out what sort of sins he committed to be punished like this.
This was the third house they had to move to… on the fourth planet in a row. He was amazed at his wife's natural ability in creating enemies, but she was the daughter of a wealthy couple, so his family told him to suck it up and bare with it.
And she doesn't let him forget that fact. Always commenting on how she was the one who lifted his family from their… questionable conditions and circumstances.
And then add a daughter into the mix, who was pretty much a carbon copy of his wife, Ezma… he still wonders to this day how he didn't just rip his fur apart from insanity.
“Harrin!" His wife yelled from upstairs. “Get your ass off that couch and go see where Rose went!"
“She's your daughter isn't she? She'll be fine!" he yelled back, putting some heavy emphasis on the girl being hers, then mumbled to himself. “I'm more worried about the suckers that are unfortunate enough to meet and bump into for her."
He just needed something… a sign that things will look up in his life. Suddenly the doorbell rang. He got up, just as his wife yelled for him to get it.
When he opened the door, he came face to face with a human, a slightly upset human at that, then began dreading the reason for this young man's presence at his door. “May I… help you?"
“Oh me? No, but I think you might have… misplaced something, that belongs to you." As the human said the last part, he pulled at someone who was hiding beside the door. His daughter Rosa.
Just then, Ezma, another human female came downstairs. “Who is it?" Then she saw the human holding her daughter. “Rosa!"
“Mom!" The girl called a bit too dramatically as she struggled out of the man's grip and ran into her mother's arms.
“Are you okay, honey? Did that man do something to you?" She then turned to with a death glare aimed at the man at their door. “If you dare hurt my little angel, I swear I'll-"
But she was cut-off mid sentence. “Yes, yes, please cut the crap already." Then completely ignored her and turned his attention to Harrin. “You her father?"
“Um, ye-yes I am." Harrin stuttered slightly, something told him that this young man was dangerous, but couldn't put his finger on how or why.
“Good, then make sure that your perverted daughter is put on a tight leash. Peeking into other people's homes isn't very… lady like," the man said casually.
“How dare you-" Ezma started, but was cut-off again.
“How about you shut your trap woman and let the men talk, huh?" His voice was deep and clearly angry at the current events, he then turned back to Harrin. “Are we clear?" Harrin could only nod and received a nod back from the human, before he left, slamming their door hard enough to cause cracks.
The moment he left, Ezma stomped to the home phone, dialing a couple of numbers, before Harrin grabbed her dialing hand. “What do you think you're doing."
“Calling the police, what else? That man could have kidnapped our daughter!"
“But he brought her back instead. And besides, this isn't the first time that this happened, you're daughter has been nothing but trouble."
“My sweet daughter would never do anything like that!" she yelled back at him.
“It's because you spoil her rotten like this that she keeps doing it!" He'd had enough of this. “What next, huh? The police knocking on our door, telling us that your daughter was caught in a strip parlor? Or doing drugs in some dirty piss-stained alley?" She was about to speak again, but he stopped her. “You know what, fine. I am washing my hands of that girl you call a daughter, if anything happens it's on you and only you!" Then he grabbed his coat and stomped out of the house, slamming the door on his way out as well, forming even more cracks.
Jason was lying on the couch of the living room, surfing through the hundreds of available channels, sports, comedy, cartoons, horror, action, nothing caught his interest yet, so he stopped at the last channel, where a drama show was airing and watched.
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. Not really in the mood to entertain anyone, he went to see who it was. And lo and behold, it was Mr. Galvin. “Can I help you, this time?" He asked in a tone that clearly said 'You better have a very good reason for being here.'
Of course Mr. Gavin caught the tone. “I just came by to apologize for what my daughter did, it was disrespectful and creepy and I promise it won't happ-"
“Okay, first off…" Jason stopped him from continuing. “Don't make promises you can't keep, knowing your daughter's kind, you and I both know that it will happen again and considering how your wife reacted it will never stop." Mr. Galvin was about to speak again. “So if you really want it to stop, then I suggest you do something about. Aren't you the man of the house?" The wolf's silence was all he needed. “Guess that answers that. So here's what's gonna happen: If this happens again, I'm going to take this to the police, I'm sure adding both stalking and harassment would result in a hefty fine and a restraining order."
This actually scared Harrin, since his daughter actually did have a restraining order against her… and was on probation for sexual harassment, kidnapping and attempted rape. So another call against her would result in her going to prison for a long time.
“Judging from your expression that this will be the last straw. Well, if you don't want that to happen… be a man and grow a fucking pair." Then Jason slammed the door in the man's face, returning to the show on TV.
“Don't you think you've been a bit harsh?" Dan stated suddenly as he sat on the other smaller sofa, also watching the show with Jason. It was some sort of highschool or college drama, or such nonsense.
“He needs to man up and learn how to control his family, those who can't don't deserve any respect in my opinion," Jason stated casually as he slightly raised the volume of the show.
Krueger decided to change the subject. “Do you know that this is the third season of this show?" Jason turned to him with a raised brow of interest. “Yep, the first season was just introductions of all the main characters and how they interact with others during their highschool years, the second season is about their last year in highschool, what's their take on college life and what they want to do with their future. And finally this season is the same as the first, but in college instead."
Jason listened to him explaining the story behind the show, but his eyes were trained on the TV, as two of the main characters, a grey wolf and a fox were meeting, away from what looked like a frat party.
“Oh, this is good," Dan stated suddenly. “This is actually a rerun of last week's episode. Here is where Tristan and Harold met in secret, away from others. This of course, is happening in some fictional universe where homosexuality is considered taboo and a sin… well it is considered as such, but only by a small handful of people." As Dan spoke, Jason remembered his little introductory walk around the neighbourhood, he actually did see a gay couple being lovey-dovey with one another without a care in the world.
He was brought back from memory lane by Dan explaining the show's episode again. “But the real cringe here is that Harold, the wolf, is actually cheating on his girlfriend with Tristan the fox, who himself wanted some time away from his own abusive boyfriend, who was proven by the end of last season to have PPD, Possessive Personality Disorder."
Jason listened, but wasn't really paying attention, looks like teen drama shows were the same everywhere.
Dan suddenly slapped his knees as he got up. “Well, I need to make a quick run to the ISF station in the city. Got a few things to pick up." Jason turned his head to him. “Oh yeah, forgot to tell you, they managed to retrieve some of the prisoners' belongings. Some of the grunts wanted to sell them for a quick side-buck." Jason's eyes grew into wide saucers. “Yes, that means some of your belongings as well. You just hold tight and still and no talking to strangers before I come back, got it?" Then Dan made his way out of the house and to the ISF station, leaving Jason to watch the rest of the show's episode.
A couple of hours later, Krueger came back early in the evening, shucking off his coat and taking off his shoes. Once all of that was done, his nose picked up a delicious scent.
He followed the edible aroma to the kitchen. He wasn't expecting the sight in front of him, as Jason stood over the stove, cooking what looked like a nice dinner. “Hey there honey, I'm home," he called to Jason, mockingly, then chuckled softly to himself.
“Welcome back dear, go ahead and wash up real quick, dinner won't be ready for another hour," Jason called back to him, just as mockingly.
About an hour later, Dan came down, fresh out of the shower and his head still slightly wet. He took a look whiff of Jason's handiwork, letting out a deep sigh of content. “Smells… absolutely delish." And the sight of the plates laid on the kitchen table confirmed it.
“Eat up, I managed to make some simple dishes from what I found in the fridge… oh, speaking of which, you really gotta stock up sometime soon," Jason stated as he hanged the apron he was wearing then took his seat on the table.
They began eating, with Krueger throwing praise to Jason's cooking left, right and almost with every bite. Throughout their dinner, they spoke casually through some simple subjects, like school and what's expected of Jason if he wanted to become a citizen of the city.
“Oh yeah, I made a quick stop at a friend's place on the way back and asked him to handle getting you your citizenship and I.D. You said it yourself that you can't go back home now that we confirmed that whatever is going on with you is pretty permanent," Krueger stated after finished his last bite of dinner, while Jason cleared the table.
“Yeah I guess so, better than being stranded and hiding here for the rest of my life, like some fugitive." Jason then let out a sigh of disappointment, but then softly smiled, maybe things will work out for him in this world instead.
“Oh right, before I forget…" Krueger got out of the kitchen then came back a couple of minutes later, handing Jason what looked like an iphone or android device, the shape was the same, but it was lighter and slightly thinner. “Your phone was totalled and couldn't be saved, but the memory was miraculously fine. So I asked a few tech friends of mine to do some reprogramming and implement some of what they found in there into this phone, although they couldn't get everything, unfortunately. I, of course, asked the shop owner to install the works, you know, social media, some basic games and such things."
Jason skimmed through his new phone real quick, checking the apps that Dan mentioned, he found a few things that resembled many social media apps from back home, like Twitter, Instagram and even Snapchat. He felt Dan nudge his side softly. “I also added some apps for you, if you catch my drift." Then shot Jason a quick wink.
The human-turning into… whatever, raised his brow and checked the phone some more… and found what Krueger was talking about. He checked this certain app and found out that it was a gay hook-up app. Dan leaned down to place his head beside Jason's, also looking at the screen. “You can thank me later."
Jason shrugged and wasn't going to ask the chimp how he knew, he simply went through the rest of the phone's functions, all of them being somewhat similar to what they had back on earth. While doing so, Dan walked him through making an email or cybermail as they called it here, so that he can go through most apps easily. Once all of that was done, Jason closed his new phone and stuffed it in his pocket for now. “Well, I guess that would be all for tonight. Better sleep early, finally on a real bed." Jason stretched and groaned softly as he did.
“Guess you're right. I need to be at the hospital early tomorrow as well." Dan mimicked Jason in his stretching, before scratching his lower back.
Both retired to their rooms for the night, as Jason was taking off his clothes he looked at himself in the mirror, his hands roamed his upper body briefly, thinking to himself 'I need to ask Dan about any local gyms when I get the chance… speaking of chances.' he grabbed his phone and faced the body-sized mirror, then began taking some body pics, a couple were of him flexing and one slightly turned and showing off his back… and another couple of his dick of course.
Once that was done, he opened the hook-up app and created a profile for himself, putting those pics in the appropriate sections and writing a few simple things in his bio, of course mentioning the part where he's an outsider. After that he closed his phone and laid in bed, falling asleep almost instantly.
_________________________
He was brought back into his invaded mental world, everything was still black, but the beast was… sleeping? He checked one side where the beast that possessed him was laying down, it's big chest rising and falling softly with calm breaths, guess he's finally getting a break for the night.
But he still decided to stay alert, finding a place in the centre of his barrier, he lied down as well, hoping for a peaceful sleep still.
_________________________
Jason was woken up by the sun shining in his face from the window, he yawned loudly and stretched with a groan, feeling somewhat refreshed today, he went into the bathroom and freshened up quickly before going downstairs, halfway down he remembered his phone, he went back and grabbed it before really going downstairs this time.
He went into the kitchen and was met with the soothing aroma… of coffee. He found Krueger pouring a mug for himself, Jason slowly walked up behind him, before wrapping his arms around the chimps midriff. “Man I could just kiss you right now."
Dan chuckled softly. “Would really love that, but I'm already late as it is. If you want, you can come along and walk around the city from the hospital."
“I guess." Jason poured coffee for himself as well, then sat down at the kitchen table. He opened his phone to check for anything new, but the thing that caught his eyes was the 12 messages from the hook-up app overnight, all from different guys.
Krueger looked at his screen as well and chuckled. “Looks like someone got pretty famous overnight."
Jason rolled his eyes at Dan's comment then started going through the list of those that texted him, nothing worth mentioning, just a couple of guys trying to compensate with their huge builds, a few narcissistic assholes and one or two twinks that didn't catch his eyes or were too feminine to his liking. All in all, this round was a bust.
Dan downed the rest of his coffee and placed the mug in the sink. “Alright, get dressed boy, we need to go through a few things to get your citizenship. First we need a few photos then on to court and the embassy to register a small profile for you." He went ahead and walked up the stairs, calling to Jason halfway. “So make sure that you shower and dress to impress, yeah?"
Jason went to his room, showering for a good while, after drying himself he put on some clothes, just normal t-shirt and jeans, then went back down to wait for Dan.
Once all was done, Dan and Jason got into the car and drove off, from what the chimp told him, this is going to be a long day.
_________________________
The duo sat in the court's waiting room, obviously, waiting for their assigned judge to hear them out. The already finished with the embassy and everything was in order, deciding to leave the photos last since they'll be easiest.
As they were waiting, Jason was messing around with his phone until he got a notification from that certain app, he opened it and found that someone checked him out… and they were here in the court building and pretty close too.
Jason looked at the guy's profile pic, it was pretty decent, the guy looked almost human, but with canid… or more like lycan features, with grey fur covering his whole face that had small and random strands of gold. His body was athletic and wearing a muscle shirt and sweatpants, but the accessory that caught Jason's attention were the glasses. Jason himself had a thing for the intelligent/musclebound look.
Just then, he received a message from the very same guy 'Hi.'
Jason thought for a few seconds while looking around, until he found the guy standing some distance in the halls, shooting Jason a small wink. The human smiled back and replied 'Hello.'
They talked on the app back and forth for a few minutes, nothing special, just simple greetings and small talk, until Dan nudged Jason's arm, gesturing that it was their turn with the judge.
The judge was everything that Jason wanted to stay away from, the only thing that came to Jason's mind was Jaba from Star Wars, only this man was doubly hideous. He answered the man's questions quickly in hopes of getting done early and leaving before he lost whatever little was in his stomach.
A few minutes later, they were finally done, Dan patted Jason's back and shoulder, with a semi-straight face, clearly aware of his predicament while inside. “You did good there." He could barely hold himself as a few snorts and snickers escaped from him.
They then made their way outside, passing by the human/wolf guy, he and Jason shooting each other a wink and a smile.
_______________________
They finally arrived at the photographer, someone that Dan personally knew and worked with a lot. The guy looked like some kind of fish, with tendrils for a beard and hair.
They were there for a few minutes as they only needed a few mugshots and copies for later use if needed, all which was done in one visit. At least it's good that they don't complicate things here is what Jason thought as they made their way to one of the big malls in the city, going straight to the food court.
“So, how're you liking your soon-to-be home?" Dan asked before taking a bite of his burger.
“It's pretty nice, most people are easy to work with and/or talk to. So far I think I'll like it here," Jason replied before taking a sip from his drink.
“Glad you think so, Jason." They turned to the voice behind them, to find Wolf standing behind Jason's chair, Jason himself almost didn't recognize the captain in casual clothing.
“Hey there, captain. Fancy meeting you here," Dan greeted him as he took some fries and popped them into his mouth.
“Yeah, got the day off away from my desk, about damn time too," he replied while massaging his nape. He grabbed a chair and sat with the duo. “Oh right, I almost forgot. I talked to some people, put in a few good words, told them about the train incident of course and they want to meet you. You did get your citizenship, right?"
“Working on it." Both Dan and Jason answered in unison.
“Good, I'll tell them that, but I have a feeling that they'll want to meet you even before you get it." Wolf checked his watch before standing up. “Well I better head back home, got a few reports to finish up before tomorrow. Was nice seeing you again, Jason."
As they were walking out of the mall, Dan nudged Jason. “Looks like things are going to be good for you, huh?" Jason smiled softly in reply.
_________________________
They finally arrived home and Jason made a bee-line to the kitchen, a few clinks and clanks of cooking utensils could be heard as he got things in order.
About an hour later, both human and chimp sat with empty plates in front of them, completely sated for now. “So Jason, I've been meaning to ask you: What got you hooked into this detective thing?"
“Would you believe me if I said a fictional character?" Jason asked back as he began clearing the table.
“Not at all. Many children and young adults idolize fictional characters and try to be like them, you know: Like superheroes and such."
“Well mine was a character called Sherlock Holmes. Although fictional, he was an inspirational character to many detectives back in the day. There was no crime or mystery he couldn't solve, he always helped people when they needed and takes down the bad guys wherever or whoever they are."
Dan just listened to Jason describing his hero, then finally spoke. “Sounds like someone's got a crush," he teased with a wide, cheshire-like grin.
“Oh please, wasn't really into humans to begin with," Jason replied while scoffing quietly.
“Oh really now?" Dan teased again. “Then this new world must be a dream come true."
“Are you kidding me?! If I could go back, none of my friends would belie-" Jason suddenly stopped mid sentence, his face forming into a gloomy feature, he then quietly resumed cleaning the dishes.
“Jay-Jay?" Dan noticed the sudden silence and didn't like it, his tone losing it's mirthfulness. “You okay?"
“Huh? Oh ye-yeah… I'm fine. So yeah, this world is a dream come true." Jason almost automatically repeated his statement, his eyes becoming almost hollow… devoid of emotions.
He jumped slightly as he felt Dan's hand pat his shoulder. “Come on, it's been a long day. You go and head to bed, I'll finish things down here."
Jason didn't argue as he nodded slowly and followed the doctor's instructions.
_________________________
Two weeks later. It was the weekend so Jason and Dan were both lounging in the house watching whatever weekend special appeared on TV. They, fortunately, had the decency to wear wife-beaters and boxers, where Dan admitted that he usually lounged in the buff during the weekend.
Until a soft knock came on their door. Krueger went to see who it was, coming back a few seconds later with Wolf in tow carrying a small folder. “Hey Jason, Krueger, hope you two are doing well today."
“Oh, not much going on, just lazing around the house, doing nothing and anything that comes to mind." Dan then nodded over to the folder that the captain was carrying. “What's with the file?"
“That's for Jason actually." He opened the folder, pulling out a few papers, plus a smaller file inside. “Looks like the gods are smiling on you boy, these here are your official citizenship papers and…" he opened the smaller folder and pulled out a card. “Here is your I.D. card, don't go losing it now."
Jason took the card with a wide smile on his face, it looked exactly like the ones back home, although the background writing was in some alien language.
“Got more good news for ya: I talked to my superiors and they agreed to let you join the ISF academy, once all your papers are approved that is." Jason just gave him a raised brow. “Oh yeah, Krueger asked me to pick up your papers, I decided to just send them in, the ones you've got are the real ones of course, the ones I sent were copies."
“We owe you one, Wolf. All we have to do is wait for those papers to be approved," Krueger stated as he clapped Jason's shoulder softly.
“Well I did what I came to do, so I need to head back to the office, got ourselves a runaway to catch." With that, Wolf left the duo to their weekend.
________________________
The next day, Jason was out on a jog around the neighbourhood, greeting whoever he passed by down the way and was greeted back with smiles, the only place that he didn't want to even acknowledge was the Galvins' house, so even when Mr. Galvin waved to him, he just ignored the wolf.
He arrived back home, only to be greeted with the booming sound of music, some sort of pop he thought, as he went inside his body began responding with head-bobs and shoulder jumps.
He then was greeted with quite the sight: Dan, in nothing but his boxers, his athletic body on display and his body weaving and swinging with the music. Even when he noticed Jason watching with an amused smile on his face, Dan didn't stop, in fact, his dancing took a slight turn to sexual teasing, pushing his covered rump out and shaking it left and right, he even twerked a few times. “Welcome back! Hope you had a good run!" The music was deafening loud, but he still needed to raise his voice a little.
“Yeah, I did! What the hell are you doing?" Jason called back over the music.
Dan went over to the stereo to turn the volume down a bit, so they didn't have to shout back and forth. “It's just something I do during the weekend, I didn't do it yesterday so that I wouldn't overwhelm you…" his eyes then went down slightly, then his mouth broke into a wide grin. “But it clearly seems that you approve."
Jason raised a brow as he looked down, only to find that he was pitching a small tent in his sweatpants. But for some reason he wasn't ashamed or embarrassed of the boning up in front of the chimp. “Well, that ass of yours is somewhat… appatizing."
Dan just shot him a wink and turned the volume back up, letting the music boom once again. As he danced, he would shoot Jason a few hopeful glances every now and then. It took Jason a few moments to realize what the chimp wanted… oh what the hell, he then began taking off his own clothes until he stood in his own boxers.
“Woo! That's more like it, my boy! Show off that bod!" Dan cheered as danced beside Jason, who was slowly getting into it, until he was weaving along with the tune.
Jason couldn't remember the last time he had this much fun, being silly and a bit crazy just for the sake of it, in fact he was having a blast, loudly cheering and whooping as he turned and stepped to the tune.
Some minutes later, a soft knock came on the door, which went unheard by either occupants of the house, then a louder knock with the same response or more like the lack of. Then the doorbell rang a few times, this time Jason's enhanced ears picked up the high pitched tune, he turned down the volume and gestured to Dan that he was getting the door… still in his boxers.
He opened the door and was met with an individual that he didn't want to see: The scowling face of Mrs. Galvin. He gave her the same level of scowl as she stood there, giving him a disapproving once over. “Can I help you?"
“You do know that this is a respectful neighbourhood right?" she asked in an arrogant tone, crossing her arms.
“Um… your point being?" he asked as his anger was slowly rising, the hand grabbing the ridge of the door tighten its grip until the wood began cracking.
“I'm asking you to stop these… shenanigans this instant. You're disturbing the neighbours." She then gestured to his… lack of attire. “And put something on, you barbarian."
Jason's nails turned black as they sharpened into claws and growled as his upper canines extended. He was literally one more push from pouncing at her and tearing her limb from fucking limb!
Noticing his silence, she was about to speak again, but Dan came from behind Jason holding his phone. “Now listen here Ms. Invasion-Of-Privacy: You have five seconds before I dial the ISF and have them arrest you for disturbance, stalking and harassment. Because unless you have a small telescope in that house of yours you can't see what we were doing." He showed her the phone screen, the number of the local ISF already inputted and all that was left was to press call.
She looked at Dan and the phone back and forth, and, confirming that he wasn't bluffing, she huffed and turned to walk away. But she felt the need to have the last word. “Just try to act more civilized." Then she left and went back to their home.
Jason just growled at her retreating back, before going back inside, his claws still black and sharp. Dan noticed the crack that Jason made in the door frame and was glad that he jumped in when he did, he was pretty sure that nothing of that woman would be left after Jason was done with her.
“That bitch better stay away from the house from now on, or I'm going to tear her into human cutlets!" Jason growled loudly, unable to control his anger, not even knowing where it came from. Usually people like her didn't matter much to him, but for some reason he only wanted to kill her and bury whatever remains so deep that the denizens of hell could reach her.
“Whoa whoa whoa, calm down there. She left already and hopefully she learned her lesson, no need to go killing people the very first month you're here." Dan tried to calm Jason, as he turned the stereo to some soothing music. Strangely, it seemed to have the desired effect as Jason's shoulders seemed to slump as he calmed down.
“Better hope so, or she's going into the fucking stew pot," Jason warned, before stomping up to his room.
Dan just stood in his place, worried that the mutations in Jason were progressing at an alarming rate, his temper being one symptom. He rubbed his forearm as he remembered the injury that Jason gave him during his rampage. The marks faint and hidden under the hair, but still present and visible if you looked closely enough.
_________________________
The next day, Jason was lying in his bed, watching a morning cartoon show on the small TV in his room, chuckling softly at the shenanigans of the characters.
Just then, his phone rang, when he checked it was a strange number, but then again, any number that isn't Krueger's was strange to him. He reluctantly accepted the call and pressed the speaker to his ear. “Hello?"
“Is this Jason Rhenolds? The outsider under the care of Daniel Krueger?" the caller, clearly male, asked in almost a robotic tone.
“Speaking. Who is this?"
“This is the ISF HQ, we're calling that your request to join the academy was accepted. However you're required to take an entry exam, the date, time and place will be cybermailed to you a few days before the appointed period, your caretaker was called and informed as well. Thank you for your patriotism and hope that you pass." Then the line disconnected, leaving Jason almost dumbfounded.
He looked at the screen on his phone in confusion, such matters take weeks to finish, but his papers were fully processed in a couple of days. Something strange was going on around here.
But he put it behind him as he went downstairs to make sure that Dan got the news, but his ears picked up at a conversation the chimp was having with someone… it seemed to be about him and the academy, so he stayed hidden and opened his ears up.
“Well, guess that shows: It's good to have friends in high places and I do mean high… Yeah I know, I know, not going to abuse your so-called kindness or anything… Well for some reason I have a pretty good feeling that he'll pass, with flying colors too… Yeah I'll talk to you later… Yep and send my regards to your… boss." Dan then put the phone back in it's place, ending the call, just as Jason came into view. “Oh hello there! Congrats on your acceptance, I'm sure you'll mop the floor with all the others."
Jason simple smiled. “Thanks, I know I wanted to be in the force, but now that I've got an actual chance I'm getting pretty nervous." It was evident as his hands began softly shaking and twitching.
“Hey hey hey, calm down. You'll do juuust fine. If you really want it, then you'll get it, that's all there is to the matter." Dan's words seemed to calm Jason down, as his breathing turned back to normal.
“Okay… okay, I'm good now. Thanks." Jason took a few deep breaths to calm himself completely.
“Alright. A friend of mine joined the ISF as well and told me all about these entry exams, so I pretty much know what to expect and can help you to prepare for it. How does that sound?"
“Sounds pretty awesome. When do we start… sir?" Jason gave the salute that he remembers from back home. Dan simply chuckled then showed him the proper salute that they used here, which was the right fist pressed over the left pec, over the individual's heart.
_________________________
Ever since that day, Dan spent most of his home time educating Jason on a lot of things, most of them weren't things that they covered in the academy's exams and classes, but he thought that Jason needed as much knowledge of this universe as possible. And the human proved to be a golden student, asking the right questions and answering correctly and fluently when asked.
Then came the day that they received the mail from the ISF HQ, luckily the date and time were about a week and a half later from receiving the mail, which gave them more time to study. The message also stated that they'll be using a classroom from one of the local colleges.
Dan was relentless in his teaching and Jason wasn't half-assing things either, as they kept on studying and learning as much as they could in the remaining time.
Of course during the weekend, they would relax and either lounge around in their underwear or dial up the stereo's volume and dance the morning away… also in their underwear.
The day of the exam finally came, Jason looked out the window as Dan parked the car, the college was pretty big and took a lot of space. Jason got out of the car, his eyes still trained on the large building. He only woke up from his trance when Dan clapped him softly on the back. “You'll do fine, my boy. You'll do juuust fine."
Jason took a deep breath… and let it out slowly, then turned to Dan and gave a firm nod before both walked in.
They met the reception then were guided to the place of the exam, they went into a large classroom, the design was a lecture theatre, the seats reaching up to about 14 or 16 steps up. There were already a few students there, once they entered the students present turned to them, Jason himself wore a simple black shirt and navy blue sweat pants, so he wasn't the most fashionable guy in class.
Dan gave him a few reassuring pats on his shoulder before leaving for his shift at the hospital. Jason then made his way up the steps until he reached what he thought was the middle, taking a seat somewhere in the central table and placed his equipment on the table before grabbing his phone and messing around with it.
A few minutes later, “Hey" was the simple greeting he got from the male who took the seat beside him. The snow white furred (were?)wolf was pretty tall and pretty wide in muscle mass, his hoodie was straining to hold intact, looks like he came from the gym cause his musk was off the charts, piercing Jason's nose from how strong it was. This caused Jason to bone up almost immediately since he had a thing for musk, especially if it came from someone who was working out or was naturally musky like that… but there was a small hint of a different scent, one that doesn't fit in with the guy's demeanor.
Just then, the rest of the chosen potential cadets filed in and took the rest of the seats in the class. The room soon filled with murmurs and not-too-quiet whispering.
A few minutes later, a few men and women marched into the room, wearing the official uniforms of the ISF, followed closely by a human who looked like he had a permanent scowl on his face. His face was rugged, filled with scars and only one eye functional. His uniform indicated that his rank greatly surpassed the others.
He stood at the very front and surveyed the individuals who wanted to join their ranks. “Alright people!" He called out to the room, his voice booming and was heard by everyone. “Here's it how it goes. You'll be given the test and depending on how you answer, your ranks within the ISF will be chosen and you'll be trained accordingly." He took a small breath before resuming. “But if you ask me, this test is meaningless, worthless. Our enemies won't come at you with pens, papers or staplers. If it was up to me, you'd all be crawling on your hands and knees, begging me to end your lives."
Jason could hear the heart rates of a few pick up or skip a beat or two, he also knew that that man means business, he was serious about his intentions.
“But fortunately for you maggots I'm not in charge of these… entry exams." It was clear that he didn't like how things were done at the moment. He then nodded to the soldiers to distribute the exam papers.
Once everyone got a paper, the soldiers went back to their positions. “Alright, everyone got their papers?" He got confirmation from all the students. “Alright, you have two and half hours. And start." He clicked the timer and the countdown started.
Thanks to Dan's tutoring, Jason was almost flying through the pages with general questions, then came the part that you have to answer in your own words. Those were a bit more difficult and he answered honestly to most of them.
As the exam time came closer to the end, The very last question was this: 'If you had a choice between your close, most trusted friend and your nation, which would you chose?' Jason sat on the question for nearly a minute, then answered with one word.
Just then the timer rang, indicating the end of the exam time. “Alright ladies and gents, down with your pens and hand over your papers." While the soldiers collected the papers, the general spoke. “You all are done here, once all the papers are graded, you'll know if you rank up from mere citizens to cadets. And with that: You're dismissed, now get out of here."
Jason met with Dan in the parking lot. “So how'd it go?" Dan asked Jason as he stood with him.
“The first half was easy, but the second half of the questions was personal opinion, I answered as honestly as possible and hoped for the best."
“Oh good, good. Now if you're ready to head ho-" He stopped his sentence as he saw someone coming in their direction. “Friend of yours?"
Jason raised a brow as he turned his head in the direction Dan was looking, noticing that the wolf who was sitting beside him in class was coming their way, his expression a bit softer than in class.
“Hello there." the big lycan greeted as he stood in front of them. “I… came to apologize for my grumpiness back in class, wasn't feeling very well." Then his muzzle split in a wide smile. “But I got a feeling that you're a decent guy and my family did say that I'm a good judge of character, so…" he extended his hand for a shake. “Names Lucas, Lucas Moonpaw."
Jason accepted the hand in his own. “Jason Rhenolds."
Then Dan. “Daniel Krueger."
That perked the wolf's ears. “Krueger? As in Dr. Daniel Krueger?" He received a nod from the chimp. “Wow, I can't believe that I'm meeting you after all this time." All he got from this exclamation was a raised brow. “Yeah, of course you don't remember. The last time we met was like what? Six, five years ago?"
Then it came to Dan. “Little Luke? My gods, how've you been my boy?"
“I'm doing pretty well and I'm more comfortable with who I am now, thanks to yours and my family's support." He then gave out a soft, but deep chuckle. “Boy my dad is gonna flip when he knows you're back in the city." He then looked at his phone, which looked a bit tiny in his hand. “Well I gotta go now, expecting a call from my old man sometime soon. Was awesome seeing you again, doc!" Then he jogged away.
Jason turned to Dan with a look that clearly asked 'What was that all about?' the chimp answered before the question was actually asked. “He was a patient of mine a long time ago, his illness required some strange and… irregular procedures. I'll tell you all about it later."
Ever since they returned home from the exam that day, Jason was all but calm, he became twitchy and nervous, a complete opposite from his calm and confident demeanour two weeks ago.
And today wasn't any better.
“Oh will you please calm down already?! You've given me a headache these last few days to last me a lifetime!" Krueger stated sternly as Jason was pacing back and forth in the living room.
“Sorry, sorry." Jason quickly stopped and sat on the couch.
“Look, you did all you could and we can only hope for the best, besides I'm sure you did good enough at least."
“Here's hoping," Jason stated quietly. Just then the house phone rang, Dan gestured for Jason to remain seated as the human was about to jump to the phone. Krueger answered and spoke to whoever was on the other side.
A few minutes later, Krueger came back to stand in front of Jason, who was too nervous to even listen in on the conversation with his enhanced hearing. “Well?"
“Well, there were a few from this system that passed." Jason's features dropped as his whole body became numb with disappointment. “And I'm afraid… that you're… one of them." Jason's eyes slowly opened before widening, along with his features.
Right before jumping and grabbing the chimp in a tight bear hug, while cheering and whooping his head off. He was soon joined by Dan who congratulated him.
Once they both calmed down, Krueger began explaining. “They said that the students who made it are to gather this weekend at the spaceport." Jason raised a brow. “What, you thought that the facility that you'll be training in is going to be in Pantheo Prime? No, it will be in a specialized station that is a couple systems away," Krueger explained. “That gives us about four days to help you pack."
Jason nodded, the wide smile never leaving his face, Dan then placed a hand on his shoulder. “You did good Jason, but this is only the beginning. Remember that. Things will be much harder from now on."
“You think I didn't know that already? I wasn't expecting things to be easy, nothing in life is." This got him a firm nod from Dan, who pulled him into a hug.
“Even if things didn't workout, remember that I'm proud of you, Jason." Those words brought small tears to the human's eyes, having almost never heard them his entire life, but he didn't want the chimp to know, so he managed to hold himself back from crying.
They managed to pack the essentials for Jason's stay at the station. But a day before they were to meet at the port, Dan had a party going for Jason's acceptance into the academy.
It was one of those bbq parties, the atmosphere alone was uplifting, which was briefly ruined by the presence of the Galvins, Dan didn't invite them due to Jason's clear and blatant dislike of them, the chimp wanted to invite Harrin at least, but Jason insisted that none of them are welcome, but as they, Ezma tried to pretty much muscle their way in, Jason himself intervened and made his hatred of them pretty damn clear. Luckily for the Galvins, Harrin stepped in and took his family back to their home, apologizing up and down until they were out of earshot.
The party pretty much went back to it's previous pace and atmosphere after that.
Then came the day that Jason was to depart and pursue his dream and future. A few students from exam were present, a large difference from those who were present at the exam itself, 'Guess they're pretty picky on who to let in' Jason thought as he carried his backpack and dragged his luggage bag behind him.
Dan gave him a soft clap on the back. “Well, I guess this is where we go our own ways, for now." He then gave Jason a final hug. “You be good now, you hear. No need to cause any trouble." They separated and Jason replied with a determined and firm nod. Then Krueger left.
Jason sat nearby, but some distance away from the other chosen cadets. He checked his phone for a few seconds, then he put in some music and put the earplugs in.
A few minutes later, he felt a heavy hand land on his shoulder, which jolted him out of his musical trance. He turned to the owner of the hand and smiled when he saw Lucas. The big wolf greeted him with his wide smile. “Hey there partner. What're the odds, huh? Both of us getting accepted, right?"
Jason nodded softly, “Indeed. Nervous yet?"
“To be honest: almost terrified, haven't been sleeping well ever since the exam."
“Yeah I know that feeling." Jason agreed as a soldier came over in the direction of the cadets.
“Alright cadets, follow me please. Any slackers or slowpokes will be left behind and expelled on the spot, no questions asked." Everyone stood up and followed after the soldier quickly, getting expelled at this time would be beyond shameful.
They walked through a long corridor until they came outside, the corridor extending beyond the building the roof and walls made completely out of glass, they all slowed down a bit as they saw the spaceship that will take them to their destination. It was somewhat smaller than what Jason anticipated, it was like they had expected to only receive a few students.
Once inside, Jason could see the different monitors and the strange tech that he was still unable to understand. The long line of seats reminded him of a bus, although the students present were a couple of seats fewer.
Once everyone was in their seat, Jason and Luke sitting beside each other, the countdown to lift-off began. Once it hit zero, the ship launched into space.
Once they broke atmosphere, the stars began shining all around them, Jason was looking out the window like a child, his face pressed to the window.
“Yeah, space is a pretty beautiful place. I'm sure that you couldn't see much of it, eh cadet Rhenolds." The soldier spoke with a strange tone that flew above everyone's head.
But not Jason's as the human sat back into his seat, clenching his fists in a tight grip. “Of course. I couldn't."
The trip was about 6 hours long, until they reached a point that allowed them to warp jump straight to the station's exact coordinates.
Once they arrived, Jason didn't see a mere station but a moon made out of metal and towers, it was almost the size of earth if remembered correctly.
As they docked, Jason thought to himself 'This is it, my future will be determined here'.
