Chapter 1

*ring*ring*ring* crash! *sigh* “dang phone"

“Hello?" I yawn away from the phone and look at the clock noticing that it is 10AM.

“Hello, is this John Wells?" the voice sounding male and lacking trace of emotions.

“Yes, that is me" I stand up and stretch and sit at the edge of my bed.

“I am Greg Hark; I work for the Elson district attorney office. I regret to inform you that your uncle William Ifer has passed away."

'My uncle? I have not heard from him in almost 10 years.'

“Ok what would you like me to do?" I say while putting clothes on.

“I need you to come to my office as soon as you can to go over the details of your uncle's will."

“I am on my way." I hang up and feed my cat nugget. my parents got me Nugget for a housewarming gift a few years ago to keep me mostly sane.

I look into the mirror at a 6-foot-tall male, a little muscle definition with dark hair that I keep nice and short. Years of living alone has made me a more self reliant, semi responsible adult. I get into my beat up civic and head to the attorney's office.

I knock on the door to Mr. Hark's office. “Hello?" comes the voice behind the door.

“Hello this is John Wells. You called earlier about my uncle?" I say back towards the closed door.

“Yes, please, come in, come in." the voice says back to me. I open the door to reveal a small office with an old oak desk; sitting behind the desk was a man that looks to be in his early 60's. he smiled as I walked in and shook his hand before taking a seat in front of him.

“So, Mr. Wells I am glad you could show up with such short notice, I wish our meeting was on better circumstances but what must be done, must be done quickly." He takes a folder out of his cabinet and opens it on the desk in front of me.

“Mr. Ifer has left all his possessions to you; however, he left his entire fortune to his pets except for a little more than enough money for you to take proper care of them. With the rule that once you have lived with them for at least 6 months and that you can prove that they are happy to live with you, the rest of the fortune will be released to you."

“How hard can it be taking care of his pets? Also, what do you mean fortune?" I say while reading the paperwork.

“Sorry sir he did not give any details about it. If you agree to the rules his pets will be delivered later today." He cracked a smile and handed me his pen.

“Yes, I agree, I will look after his pets." I signed the paperwork wondering what I got myself into.

“Good they will be dropped off with a month worth of their food." He smiled and shook my hand as I stood up. I left his office and headed home to clean the house and get ready for their arrival.

I heard a knock at the door around 5PM so I went to the door while Nugget was meowing and rubbing against my legs. I opened the door, and the delivery guy handed me a clipboard and a pen, I signed and handed it back to him. He left and came back struggling with a large crate on a cart and put it in my living room. “Is that it?" I said scratching the back of my head.

“No sir I have a few more for you." He said looking defeated. Afterwards he brought in two more large crates that has holes in the side. Nugget walked up to a hole in the side and hissed and bolted away faster than I have ever seen her move. Something in the crate moved and I thought I saw orange fur for a second. The delivery guy turned and left quickly saying “have a good night, sir." I closed and locked the door before inspecting the crates closer.

'Only two crates have holes in them that means I should start with…' *growl*

“What the fuck was that?" I slowly creep towards the crate that made the noise and I look through the hole. 'It is too dark to see anything' the crate jolts as something heavy moved inside suddenly. I scream and fall over backwards. I collect myself quickly and open the other crates. First one I opened was a large freezer filled with frozen meat?

'Ok that makes me concerned about my new house mates' I open the second and it is a fridge with what looks like portioned food.

'That makes day 1 easy.' I open the third and it contains large dog beds that smell musty and various brushes and other pet care items.

'Ok time to meet my new friends' I walk to the crates, and I feel extremely nervous, both crates are open and very much empty. Also, the large claw marks do not make me feel any better. I hear hissing coming from my bedroom and I look up in time to see that I am currently being stared down by an abnormally large male lion.
