Chasing the Sun - Chapter 10: Feelings to Ponder
#11 of Chasing the Sun
Octo picked up a package of chicken meat from the shelf and inspected it, then put it back when it wasn't to his preferences. He took another package of pigeon and asked the German Shepherd, "You know how to cook pigeons, Max?"
"I don't think so, but I can try."
He hummed in acknowledgement as he put the meat back on the shelf. After taking another glance at the shelves, the panther stepped back and walked away. Taking that as a cue that they were done, Max pushed their cart and followed him to the next section of the store.
Octo must admit, shopping could actually be a refreshing and relaxing activity. After moving to his own flat, he decided to stop buying things he only needed--and using delivery services for them--and actually take his time to browse around after work. The streets to his flat were peppered with small stores and restaurants with a big grocery store just a short walk from the metro station. This really helped him take his mind off the stress, both from work and from family problems, and let him only focus on rewarding himself after dealing with people.
New flavour for his favourite snack? Sure. That chocolate bar was on a 10% discount? Of course, as long as he only ate one per day. Tired of or too busy to keep marinating meat every time he wanted to cook? Pre-marinated meat to the rescue.
On his way here, he met Max. The dog looked flustered and tired, but as usual, they were glad to cross paths like this. Their flats weren't very far anyway, so they sometimes crossed paths. Max was about to go home, but when Octo said he was going shopping, the dog decided to tag along. He said Tom was still at work till late and he was alone right now, so a company would be welcome.
"By the way, uh, Oct... you... um..." The dog then started.
Octo took one package of sausage and inspected it. "Hm?"
The dog scratched his cheek. "You... got any relationship tips?"
Upon hearing that, the panther looked at the dog and let out a small chuckle. "Tom's acting up?"
"No, not really." Max looked away. "I just want to, y'know, be a better boyfriend and stuff."
"Trust me, I'm not really one to give you relationship advice, even more because I'm single. Andy or John may be of more help, wait, maybe not Andy."
"But they're straight, panther, I can't ask them about that. Besides, you got that Andres, right? And like hell I wanna ask Andy about it. You're pretty much the... uh... the only one I trust about... gay... stuff?"
"I think you have a point." He chuckled and put that package of sausage into the cart. "Speaking of, how are you and Tom?"
Max chuckled sheepishly. "We're fine, more than fine, I think. Really, I never thought Tom would be this... uh..."
"Sweet?"
"Yeah. Like, sometimes I wonder if I'm actually the girl one in the relationship." He gave a nervous laugh. "Tom acts like I can break any minute. To be honest, I think he's the one who can break any minute because he seems so confused. But really, he's so sweet."
Octo smiled, then lowered his voice. "Nice. So, how about your bedroom life?"
Max looked away. "W-well, that advice you gave me, it worked."
Octo's smile brightened. "How far did you go?"
Punching the softly laughing panther away, Max's ears went down. "Fuck, Oct, don't ask that."
"Yeah, yeah, sorry." He gave the dog's shoulder a pat. "Where is he, anyway?"
"Still in Hasingham. Client meeting."
"Mm. So what relationship advice do you want?"
"Uh... I dunno. Stuff...?"
They stopped and looked at each other, Max with low ears but a shy smile while Octo tall ears and an eager smile.
"Stuff?"
"Stuff."
The panther chuckled. "Stuff." He walked away. "You know, your relationship is the smoothest I've ever seen. Just in two months I had a fight with Andres."
"What about it?" Max walked beside him.
"Small stuff." He just shrugged, not wanting to talk about his ex.
The dog let out a sigh. "Yeah, I understand."
"Hey, don't let that discourage you. I mean, we were both pretty terrible at relationships, so--"
"I was terrible at relationships, dude. You? You and Andres went together for, what, three months?"
"Three months isn't something to be proud about, you know. And after we broke up, I didn't want to date again."
They arrived at the milk and beverages section. Octo put two bottles of his usual almond milk into the cart. Max followed and put three bottles in. "Anyway, uh, you're going out with someone?"
"No. I don't know, since Andres I... just didn't want to date, not yet."
"It's been five years, panther. You got together with him in the first or second semester, right? Afraid you're gonna make the same mistake?"
"Hey, you know we broke up peacefully."
"I wasn't there." Max shrugged and pushed the cart. "Besides, you told me that after what, a semester after you came out?"
"No one asked me. Besides, I wasn't sure if you would want to hear some... homosexual relationship stuff."
"But now I got a boyfriend of my own. And you also have to."
Octo rolled his eyes. There might be some truth in Max's words. He and Andres broke up peacefully after deciding that their relationship just wouldn't work out and that Andres wanted to focus on his thesis. Frankly, he thought he could've been a support for the lynx to finish his thesis. After one last date, they agreed to break up, and since Andres' graduation, he never heard anything from the lynx.
However, he didn't regret that; he didn't regret anything in their relationship. They were both to blame. He had been busy with classes, Andres had too. He had been busy with football, Andres had with volleyball too. After breaking up, he simply wanted to focus on his studies and graduate before he looked for another relationship.
"But, hey, at least you got Kevin." Max joked, waking him up from his musings.
The panther looked at him, then looked away and huffed. "Yeah, you might be true about that."
The dog chuckled. "Well, honestly I'm not really sure if he's boyfriend material, though I think you can tell better."
That weird feeling about the red wolf came again. There was something between them, but frankly, he was rather afraid to find out. While he was no stranger to dating, he wasn't sure whether Kevin would be willing. The wolf was just too... carefree for him. Octo was a serious person, he knew that. Kevin, on the other hand, seemed like a total opposite. While it was true that the wolf was a great guy to hang out with, Octo still wasn't sure about getting serious with him. Although they really enjoyed each other's company... and body, would Kevin be willing if he asked him out?
Wait, would Kevin even be willing if he asked him out? The red wolf was all casual sex and stuff. They never asked more from their hooking-ups. Sometimes they cuddled afterwards--well, actually pretty much every time--but never did they even suggest the possibility of dating. Sometimes it popped up in his mind, but he was glad about what they were now. Kevin never even joked about them dating when someone asked them the reason they kept hooking up. He always said that they hooked up because they wanted to, that was all.
Should he really try it out? They could always learn or adjust as they progressed. That was what dating was for, right? Even if Kevin turned him down, at least he tried.
For now, he just shrugged it off. Instead, he asked Max, carefully picking his words to avoid offending or hurting the shepherd. "Max, you... are you really fine with being boyfriends with a dude?"
He saw the dog's back in front of him go rigid, then sagged along with his ears and tail. Max didn't turn to him, but he could tell that he was still conflicted and anxious. His ears were flat and his tail was limp, close to his body.
Octo mentally cursed and berated himself. Even though he worded it carefully, no way it wouldn't hurt Max. Yet, as his close friend, he didn't want to see Max getting hurt. Tom was gentle, he knew, but Max wasn't even sure about his own sexuality. Dating a guy right away seemed like he was taking things too quickly. "Sorry, I didn't mean t--"
"No, no, it's fine." Max sighed. "It's really fine." He put a bottle of milk tea into the cart, not looking at him. "Honestly, that... i-it's complicated... no, it's not, but... uh..." He took a deep sigh. "I'm happy with us being boyfriends, but... I still have doubts from time to time. Tom is nice and understanding and he never pushed me, but, um... to be honest, I still can't really see him as more than just a really close friend yet. We do_still act like we're just really close friends but with some gay lines in it, but we _are closer, but..."
The panther didn't reply to let him continue.
"Thinking about this makes me feel bad, you know." Max huffed in frustration. "I know he's trying so hard to make me comfortable, which is why I want to try so hard to be comfortable. We do lots of physical contact, y'know, stuff that couples do, and I enjoy the time we spend together."
"Hey." The panther smiled softly and put his hand on his shoulder. "Don't take it too hard. Just think this way, you're happy being with him, right? Then just enjoy it. Does it feel weird?"
"Yeah... but..."
"But that makes you happy, doesn't it?"
The dog sighed. "Y-yeah. I'm happy being with him." He looked up and smiled at the panther. His ears finally went up and his tail swayed. "Well, I'm starting to see him as more than just a best friend, but not as far as a boyfriend just yet. I am happy being with him. I never thought dating a guy would be so hard."
"It isn't, really. You're just putting too much thought on it... well, understandable; it's not like I realised I was bi overnight." Octo pushed the cart away to beckon him to walk.
"Speaking of bi, Tom actually allowed me to still... do girls."
"He does? Seriously?"
"Yeah. Says he doesn't want to keep me locked away. Says he understands that I have needs with girls." His shoulders sagged again. "I mean, yeah, I do, but... it just feels so wrong. I don't want to turn my back to him just because I can't handle myself. I mean, if Tom could be patient doing things with me then I should be able to do the same, right?"
Octo smiled widely. Max really was full of consideration. He wasn't chosen as the captain for the football team for no reason, after all. "Really, Max, I think everything's going to be okay. Just believe him. And if you want advice, just ask me. I'll try my best to help"
"Y-yeah. Thanks a lot, Octo." He sighed.
"Come on, let's have dinner first." Octo smiled and patted his back. "Your place or mine?"
Max looked at him, smiling more honestly as he did so. "How 'bout mine?"
It happened again.
Kevin hazily looked at the ceilings, gripping his head. Last night was amazing. He didn't even wake up with an erection, showing just how spent was he. Octo was more than capable of being a dom top.
Yet, he felt like there was more to them last night. The way they cooked some light dinner and joked while watching the television before getting to the bedroom. The way they snogged as they explored each other's bodies. The way the panther whispered sweet nothings as he slowly put his length inside him. The way he tightly clung to the panther for dear life as he was fucked against the wall. The way they held each other close when they were done. Those weren't something fuckmates did. It almost felt like... they were dating.
What were they?
He was alone on the bed, so he guessed the panther was either in the bathroom or had left... wait, this was his place. Okay, maybe the panther was in the bathroom.
Then, the door opened, revealing the panther only wearing pants. Kevin looked at him, debating whether pulling him into the bed was a good idea or not, then decided not. Octo smelled musky and his fur suggested that he hadn't been up for long.
"Morning. Breakfast's ready."
Kevin just groaned and gripped his head. "Y-yeah, gimme five minutes." Really, a voice that low and husky should be illegal. He heard the panther's bed voice lots of times and he still thought it was so hot.
The panther nodded and left the room.
With the panther gone, Kevin sat up, and immediately regretted doing so. His arse hurt like hell and he limply plopped back onto the bed. "Ow! Ow!"
Oh, well, he should get used to it now. Besides being dominated by a big bad wolf, some people also liked to dominate a big bad wolf, even though it was against the stereotype that wolves are dom tops. Maybe he should charge more for that.
Kevin tried to sit up again, this time slower. He gripped his face and prepared himself for an uncomfortable walk to the shower. There were cum streaks in his stomach and chest, and when he checked his back and tail, he found some more cum streaks there. He looked over the bed and found his fur all over it. Octo complained about it last night, to which he only shook his body to shed it even more.
Not bothering to put some clothes on, the wolf stood up, gripped his arse, and walked away wobbly from the bedroom.
There were already two plates of breakfast on the living room table. The panther was watching the television, then looked up as he approached, inviting him to sit on the empty spot on the sofa next to him.
Kevin pointed towards the bathroom with his muzzle, but Octo caught his hand and pulled him to sit. "Eat first."
He wanted to slap the hand away, but a sound from his stomach stopped him. With some difficulties, he sat down next to the panther and gritted his teeth as he felt his arse burning.
"How's your backside?" Octo asked him. "I wasn't too hard last night, was I?"
He just grunted and took the plate. "Fine."
"You sound like you regret last night."
"No." Letting out a sigh, he ate the food. It tasted so good because the panther cooked it. "I don't regret it." But I can't sort out the thoughts in my head.
Kevin looked up at the panther and saw him smiling softly. "Sorry if I was too hard. At least you were hard."
The red wolf could only chuckle tiredly at that. "Heh, I know I am."
They ate in silence. A million thoughts were running in his head about last night and this morning. Are they now... more than fuckmates? Because honestly, if they were just fuckmates, he wouldn't enjoy being held close to the panther--apparently Octo gave nice cuddles. Octo was very nice to him, and in turn, that made him feel happy.
Like now. He glanced at the panther who was watching the telly, all hot and content and exposed like this, and the wolf felt... attracted to him. Not counting sex, he never really got this close to someone and it made him confused. There was Tom, but that was emotional and one-sidedly physical. With Octo, he could cuddle with him after having mind-blowing sex.
As much as he loathed to admit, he liked the cuddles.
"You have anything planned for today?"
Kevin shrugged. "Nope."
The panther hummed in acknowledgement and went back to watching the television.
He shifted on the sofa; his arse still hurt. Apparently, the panther noticed that and looked at him. "Sorry."
Tch, that pitiful look seemed smug to him. However, before he could stand up and eat his breakfast somewhere else, the panther asked him. "Wanna take a shower together? I'll wash your backside."
Kevin looked at him strangely, surprised at such a bizarre request. Well, at least he could get the chance to grope him again. No, he wasn't happy that Octo cared for him. No, he didn't care that they sometimes did it after having sex.
They used condoms last night, right? He didn't want to douche right now.
The panther put his empty plate down. "Come on."
Octo put some shampoo in his hand and started stroking the red wolf's fluff and back. He didn't say anything, his mind too occupied at the moment. Why was Kevin so obedient? Why was he happy to touch him like this? Why did they seem to like being close to each other?
And most importantly, did he really like him?
He hung out with many guys, of course. He spent so much time with another guy, be it in a café, at a restaurant, on his flat, or even in the shower like this. However, Kevin felt different. Octo wasn't sure why, and as he washed the base of the wolf's tail, he also wondered why did they keep doing each other, even when they perfectly knew that this time would be their last time. Their last time kept getting postponed.
And no, they weren't drunk last night. They were just spending some time together after work. Kevin texted him to ask if he wanted to go to a restaurant around 21, and he instead offered to cook dinner together. They cooked, they chatted, they ate, and the next thing he knew, they were kissing each other on the bed, preparing for more intimate acts.
Done with his back and arse, Octo moved to his front. He wanted to tell Kevin to turn over but held himself back. Kevin's ears were down and he seemed relaxed, and it made him feel guilty about last night. Although Kevin offered to be fucked, he should've been gentler.
Well, as his hand washed the wolf's front, he hadn't been able to hold himself back when his partner was this hot.
The panther let out a quiet chuckle and pressed his front to the wolf's back, hugging the wolf close and feeling the wet fur. He heard Kevin let out a sigh but didn't attempt to get away. He put his chin on the wolf's shoulder and closed his eyes, feeling the warmth from the water and from the other.
Kevin used that moment to laugh, sending vibrations from his strong chest. "Heh, couldn't help yourself with this hawtness, eh?"
Octo only hummed contently. "Admittedly, it's not every day someone this attractive walks into my shower."
Kevin laughed.
When he was done with his front, Octo let the wolf go. Kevin turned around and walked behind him. "Lemme wash your back."
Octo didn't protest and let the wolf manipulate him.
That simple act of closeness earlier made the questions inside his mind even more pronounced and made him even more conflicted. Yes, Kevin was a fun guy to be around. Yes, Kevin was hot and handsome. Yes, he liked spending time with this wolf.
Yes, he liked this wolf.
Now, he realised it had been a while since he last felt this way, not since Andres in the first semester of college. Maybe that was why he couldn't make sense of it earlier. Would it be fine if he and Kevin went out?
"Kev," he said as he handed the shampoo to the wolf. He took a deep breath and before deciding to fuck it. "do you... like me?"
The wolf put some shampoo into his hands and began cleaning his back, but he could tell that the movement was slow, repetitive. He was thinking about something else. Admittedly, he shouldn't have put it that way. That made him seem selfish, that he was making this about himself instead of about themselves.
Stupid! Stupid!
He sighed and gripped his face. "Forget what I asked."
Kevin didn't answer.
The hands left his back, and he was ready if Kevin wanted to go out from the shower, or even from his flat. The silence bugged him. The wolf was always a loud and brash person. He was like Andy, arseholic and horny and nice and hot and handsome dammit
However, the wolf then turned him over and kissed him.
Surprised at the gesture, Octo could only hold onto the other's waist perplexedly as the wolf deepened the kiss. It was hot, demanding, but after their tongues met, it became... slow. Unsure. Confused.
They separated, then they stared into each other's eyes. "Oct," the wolf said with uncertainty in his voice. "do I like you?"
The panther just looked at his blue eyes, a bit caught off-guard at his question. How would he know? It was the wolf who felt that way. He might be good at reading people, but he didn't want to make brash assumptions.
Yet, the tone he used was... There was confusion in those eyes.
Octo just reached up and stroked Kevin's chin. It looked like the confusion was mutual, and based on that, he could tell that the liking might be mutual.
As they closed the gap and kissed softly, he realised that the feeling was indeed mutual.
Octo uhh that was a weird confession but that works I guess
