The Twisted Begining Pt2
Ending is abrupt and I am still trying to get used to Lumistar's character. She isn't mine; she be friend's.
--
Nithran wandered the halls, looking for the headmaster's room. It had been an hour since he had 'saved' that dragoness from being killed. No joy came from this task, but hatred bubbled inside of him; hatred at the fact that he actually had to embrace her. How he wanted her to be dead along with them.
The only benefit of this was that he got into the school. When he arrived everyone was asleep except for the headmaster, nurse, and a few random students that stared at him. It irritated him to be gazed at by simpletons who could not keep their jaws closed. The males were likely looking at Lumistar and he didn't care what the females did.
Later, finding the office of the headmaster, he found it to be locked. What was a lock to him? Nithran looked around. After finding no one around, his body turned to blood and he slipped underneath the door. It was his favorite thing to do; it allowed him to easily come up behind his targets.
Hiding in the darkness, he reformed back into his frail body. He did not even look like he could stand on his own, Nithran suspected that it was because of his supernatural energy, but at night, he needed no assistance. Only in the sunlight would he need support, but he would be damned if he allowed anyone to touch him.
Within a few moments, the headmaster came into the room and sighed. He was a short mouse who wore clothes similar to Nithran, but they lacked the veins and were green and white. Once he sat down in his overlarge chair, Nithran stepped out of the shadows.
"Ah, you are the one who brought in Lumistar, correct?" The mouse literally squeaked. Nithran wanted to choke the life from him for having such a high voice.
"I just happened to be nearby," Nithran spoke part of the truth. Taking out the letter, he clawed it over to the mouse, who took it with his tiny paws.
"Oh, you are the one that Fenrir talks about? Let's see what he wrote..." The mouse sat back in his chair. The only thing that could be seen was his tiny back paws and the tiny claws that held the note.
"So you are here about our problem...aha, you are a real tough one, he says," The mouse cleared his throat and started to quote: "'Nithran is quite cold and emotionless when it comes to talking to him, but he keeps to himself, so is not an issue. Touching him will usually end up with someone getting injured, and he is mostly active during the night.' Why at night, I wonder...?"
"I think he explains it perfectly clear later on," Nithran looked on his desk. Magical enchantments cluttered the desk to the point where he was going to freak. Why couldn't he put them in order? It took a moment, but he found the name of this idiot: Headmaster Miguile.
Sure enough, Miguile laughed, "Oh, I never knew he was such a jester. He claims you are a vampire. I guess age must be catching up to him. We haven't had vampires in years!"
Nithran gave a sinister smile, taking off the cross. Making the things vibrate on the mouse's desk, he waited until he was noticed. Two seconds later, Miguile looked up and looked flabbergasted. His mouth moved but no words came out. Blood raced through his body and made Nithran's mouth water.
Gliding closer, Nithran's red eyes met his brown eyes, "Do you want me to prove it further? I certainly can. Take a look at Lumistar's neck. There was no way they could have made such a...precise mark."
"You were the one who attacked her?" The mouse yelled. His voice aggravated Nithran and the walls rumbled. Things fell off the shelves and Miguile quieted, but still gave him that hated look, "Why did Fenrir keep you around?"
"I have been deemed a necessary evil by your very council, 'Headmaster'," Nithran let out a cold laugh, "I could have easily let Lumistar die, but I found her interesting, so I let her live. Had the rapists not wanted to kill her, I would have left."
"You would have left her to be raped?"
"It wasn't my problem. Being dead makes you not care of the fate of the living."
Frowning, Miguile placed the note back on his desk, "Well, it appears that Fenrir wants you to be one of the students," Nithran froze. There was no way in hell that he would do this, "Only in the day classes as well, as he mentioned that you are weaker in the sun. I guess you are one of those types that are not instantly turned to dust? Regardless, I don't want it either, but if it has to be done. I can't believe that we have to call a vampire to investigate the demonic rituals here"
Nithran stood silent, in shock. Why would Fenrir make him go to such lengths to spy on idiots and their cult? Why, Nithran could have simply found them, but no, they had to place him where he was weak and unable to do much. Glancing outside, he saw that the sun was about an hour or two away from rising.
"Your coffin is in the basement, where it is the darkest. I suggest you rest, as your 'class' starts around noon. I will inform the staff what you are here for, despite you looking no more than a drake. Yes, I know what you are, Nithran."
Nithran growled: Of course Fenrir would put down that he was a dragon. It was so very simple to expose his secrets without a care but if he so much as told anyone what Fenrir did, he would be yelled at. Necessary or not, he hated it. There were no more than five thousand dragons left in the world and he really didn't want the attention brought to him. It was one of the main reasons why he made his wings into a cloak.
Turning away, he left, forcing down the door and vanishing into the dark hall. He may as well pay Lumistar a visit to see if she really was what he thought. Placing the lock on, he headed to where she was.
--
In the medical wing, she was covered in a silk blanket and in a small circular bowl that served as a place to sleep or rest. She was about to fall asleep from the look on her face. Her breathing was slow and her pulse wasn't racing.
When she closed her eyes, Nithran sat down on the bed and looked at her with a malefic face. She seemed to notice him and before he could stop her, she screamed. Nithran clamped her mouth shut with arcane energy.
Still, the situation was amusing and he got up, staring down at her with sadistic intention, "Is that how you treat the ones who save your virginity? I should have left you to die," Nithran quietly released her mouth, "What were you doing at this time of night?"
"I was told to come here. I got a letter, but I don't know what happened to it," Nithran was starting to wonder why he saved her. If she was too much of an idiot to not have common sense, then what was the point of her living?
"So you simply go where a letter tells you to? Are you that thick?" Nithran berated her. He saw her shirk under the covers until nothing more than her eyes and transparent red horns could be seen.
"I-I'm sorry, I know I am really naïve and curious..." Lumistar sighed and looked up at Nithran. Oddly, she was staying calm, "I could have defended myself easily. I am an arcane dragoness and I could have knocked them out with my mental power. Still, if I wasn't attacked previously, I could have..."
"Yes, I get it, you could have fought them off," Nithran cut her off. She seemed like the type that would repeat herself. Still, she confirmed his suspicions, "What metal do you control?"
"Gold," Uncertainty crept into her voice along with curiosity. She was right; she was too damn curious for her own good, "How did you know I controlled a metal?"
Nithran paused for a moment. Should he really tell her? It may help him get closer to her. With much regret, he showed her the silver circle on his chest. Instantly, he saw her creep out of the blanket. When she reached to touch it, Nithran shied away. That was the last thing he wanted.
"Are you one too? I read that arcane dragons usually have a marking of their element. My spine is gold, so that is mine. I'm guessing yours is silver. I didn't think I would meet another this early in my life!" Nithran paled at her response. Oh no, this was not what he wanted. If she became intrigued with him, then he would have to find out what was wrong here and then leave. He didn't want her blood if this was going to be the case.
"Just remember to mind your space or else I will turn you to silver and shatter you," Nithran replied angrily. She flinched at his response. After about a second, he abruptly turned and walked away swiftly.
Why was he even taking an interest in her in the first place? Arcane or not, it never should have mattered. In his lifetime, he had slain and drank from many dracidons. It was survival of the fittest. That was what it was like in the wilds, where spent his hatchling, adolescent, and most of his drake years.
By some strand of horrible timing and luck, Nithran was attacked by a vampire and turned. Five minutes later, when he was fading into unconsciousness, Fenrir took him in. He was the only one who accepted Nithran for who he was. The council of magi wanted him removed and hunted him actively for a year.
Nithran felt his vampiric side get a hold of him for a moment as he remembered slaughtering the entire 'vampire hunter' group. He was called a monster: they couldn't be any more correct. Monster was actually too kind of a term for him.
Still, he may as well get some sort of sleep. Later today was going to be hell and he needed his strength. Finding the cellar, he saw that his coffin was leaned against the wall, hidden in darkness. Only Nithran could have spotted it. To the side of the coffin, a black staff with a floating ball of silver rested. Nithran instantly rushed over to it and grabbed it, turning to the coffin afterwards.
His coffin was made of black wood and had a symbol of a silver cross. The cross was actually Nithran's decision: should it have any sadistic etchings, it would draw attention. Fenrir wanted as little causalities as possible. Still, the coffin was so very useful to him; preserving his strength, and it was actually quite comfortable. Red padding covered the inside.
Wrapping the cloak tightly around him, Nithran stepped into the coffin and levitated the lid so that it sealed on top.
--
Sunlight sucked.
Nithran was hiding in the shade of a massive orange tree, watching elementalists use their elements to destroy dummies. None came close to impressing him and he found himself growing bored. This entire mission was a waste of time. It would be far more effective to just blow the entire place up.
In contrast to Nithran's previous strength in the night, daylight weakened him beyond imagining. No longer could he use his Blood power, he had to rely on his Arcane mastery. Nithran looked like he had been blasted with something, leaning heavily on his staff. His physical weakness showed far more than usual; he was now unhealthily skinny, his scales nothing more than a suit for his skeleton. His robes seemed too big for him.
In order to move, Nithran had to use his staff. Should he sit down, he would have a hard time getting up without it. Both of his claws were wrapped tightly around the handle. Still, despite the sun weakening him, he could easily take these apprentices. The only issues he would have were with the stronger ones.
To make his day even more miserable, he had the shadow following him again.
"Marvelous, aren't they? They will grow to be powerful magi..." it said with too much fascination.
"I don't care. They are nothing more than food in my eyes," Nithran hissed, facing the shadow, "I don't understand why you keep following me when I clearly don't want you to. Are you that thick to latch onto any form of vampiric creature like a misguided orphan?"
"You have the mark, Nithran. I can only be seen by you and you are the only one who can feel if I touch you," it said simply, still watching the magi, "They will hunt you once Fenrir dies. It is only through him that you still live."
"I am aware of that," Nithran snarled, "If you are going to tell me things I already know, I am going to attack you on sight from now on. I don't care if you are possessing or hiding near another."
The shadow was gone. In its place, Lumistar was there. How this happened was beyond him. She had this perplexed expression as if she was trying to figure him out. Nithran retreated further into the tree.
"Who were you talking to?" She asked.
"None of your concern. Leave me," Nithran retorted. She flinched again at his words, but relented and joined a new class that was starting to form.
Why Nithran was still here was still a mystery to him. For some reason, he felt like a cultist was here. He could feel the warped energies going chaotic, but where they were pointing to was a mystery. A few times he saw someone with the aura around them, but they vanished before he could even do anything.
Nithran was sorely disappointed when he lost the trail. The best part (The only good part, that is) is that he could attack at any time if he finds a cultist. Only to maim, of course, but it was better than simply tracking them. It was a hesitant decision that he was informed of by the instructor before class started.
Thankfully, he had not been called on or noticed by anyone but Lumistar. That was shattered, however, when the instructor noticed him. She was a bipedal panther that looked no more than thirty-five and had such a cheery personality that he wanted nothing more than to rip off her lower jaw. The urge intensified when she called on him.
"Oh Nithran!" the class turned to spot him, he tried to hide again. "Why don't you come over and show the class your abilities? I heard that you are highly recommended by Master Fenrir..."
Seeing no way out of it, Nithran slowly trudged over, leaning on his staff with every step. He could tell that they were snickering or looking confusedly at him. Lumistar looked at him in a way which seemed hopeful. He didn't want to oblige her by showing her his power. A cruel idea formed in his head.
When he stood in front and faced them, the instructor whispered to him, "I wanted you up here so you can get a closer look. I know you hate others, but really, put on a happy face and get close so you can do what you need to do."
Like him, the instructor wore a cape, but like her robe, it was white and blue. Much too bright for him. The sun bore down on him and he wanted nothing more than to get back in the shade. Thankfully, he could after this class. At least, he hoped. He'd go berserk if he couldn't.
"Right, Nithran, I want you to hit this target," She summoned a wooden dummy, "Use everything you have against it."
"Everything?" Nithran chuckled darkly. He could see her hesitation before nodding.
Nithran held out his claw. When he did so, the silver coin appeared, but it was glowing and shimmering like the silver at the top of his staff. "Kir Javea Proje," he muttered before slamming the claw holding the coin onto the staff.
Silver tendrils shot in every direction from the staff. The first thing it hit was the target, spearing it through the head, the torso, and the shoulder. However, to scare everyone else, tendrils shot off towards the students as well and came millimeters from penetrating their flesh. A few fainted: Nithran thought it was the funniest thing in the world.
Lumistar had this horrified look that mixed with her curiosity. She was the only one who touched the silver tendril and it cut her. She moved away from it and looked at him with worry in her eyes. He wanted to turn that worry into pain.
"Nithran!" the instructor, Irene, shrieked, "I said hit the target, not give my students heart attacks!"
"Oh, I...apologize... instructor," he made a false bow, a feral grin showing on his face, "I tend to lose control when I am in the sunlight. I have better control at night..."
Without waiting for anyone to stop him, Nithran retracted the silver and started to walk away...only to collapse. Damn it, I used too much power... He growled, trying to get himself up. His body just wouldn't react to what his brain was telling him! The students were too afraid to approach him...but one behind Lumistar caught his attention.
Swirling around the student behind her was the demonic energy. She seemed to notice that Nithran was looking directly at her and started to leave. She can run all she wanted, for when the sun went down, she would have no where left to go. The only issue, of course, was getting up...
