Chapter Four

Preparation Insight

Far away many leagues to the south-west at the very same time Dawn was telling Evin she could no longer travel with him, Giovanni had just arrived at his island base far off the coast of Castelia city to pay the operation there a surprise visit. All the grunts and executives of the organization stood at stiff attention as he walked the halls and inspected the buildings that had only been finished being build a month before.

The executives read off the list of what was left to be done as Giovanni entered the labs with a displeased sneer etching his already angry features. This was the site of his latest project to take over the world and he was not pleased with what he had heard of the operation's successful advances. Entering a room full of men wearing white lab coats as each worked with substances of precarious origin and nature, Giovanni made a direct approach towards the lead scientist.

The man in charge had darker and more sinister looking features that Giovanni himself or any other there as he was possibly the only other man within his own organization that Giovanny actually feared. The other scientists continued their work in silence, some working with blood and others with certain drugs and steroids, but only a select few worked with glowing substances beyond anyone's comprehension as Giovanni addressed the leader of the whole division.

Looking up from his work of paper schematics the lead scientist acknowledged Giovanni with a haggard sounding reply as he said, "Ah, so our great leader has decided to finally pay us a visit? Please may I ask, what brings you so far from home?" Giovanni hated the man's antics, but replied in his usual tone to try and sound unshaken, "It has reached my ear that progress here has reached a near stand-still and while I understand delays I decided that it was necessary not to ignore this one and came to have a look around for myself to ensure that work was proceeding apace."

The lead scientist made a grinding sound in his chest and throat that sounded like gravel being crushed before he then replied in a much more harsh rasping voice, "The rumors were probably spread by spies. The little maggots seem to infest the very walls with each stone we lay as your recruitment methods of late have made it quite easy for them to slip in. We already have five of the twenty-five ingredients we require, so if anything you might say we are ahead of schedule with very few things standing between us and our goals.

The league's finest are too entangled in politics to deal with us directly and the army is nothing more than a bunch of idiots waving guns over their heads. The only thing that is really wasting our time here is this little inspection of yours." Looking a bit stung, Giovanni said, "You work for me, you better remember that when the time comes; without me you would still be sitting in a cell rotting away as bugs and vermin slowly devoured you. So with that said, is there anything else you need or could use to speed things along before I leave?"

The scientist had a dark expression as he momentarily loudly sucked on his few remaining front teeth, but then seemed to lighten up as the idea crossed his diabolically brilliant mind and said, "Dust... dust from the second time traveler. I don't need it right away, but it will be essential later on, so I trust you will be able to figure out the clue I just gave you easily enough and before long acquire what is needed. But until then I just need you gone!"

Giovanni loathed the man in front of him, but nodded his agreement that he was no longer needed there. But before leaving, Giovanni stopped long enough to gaze into the five glowing tanks that now housed the fruits of his ultimate ambition one last time before departing. Everything he had was riding on this latest endeavor, so he hoped that it was all worth the risk before he then left the lab and addressed the men outside.

"Do whatever Dr. Revarious requires of you without hesitation or feeling. I know he is hard to work with, but keep in mind that all of us will benefit from the efforts rendered here if we are successful. Work hard and fast and you will be rewarded, but if you work slow and slow progress down, you will be punished!"

All gave a loud, "Yes sir!" as if they were addressing their general since everyone knew better than to voice their concerns at this point. No one had crossed Giovanni since his new plan had first come together, for right after his plan had been purposed to the rest of the organization the one person that had spoken their objections in opposing it were never heard from again. Giovanni now stood at the precipice of his greatest and most risky creation ever and was not about to have his plans foiled by anyone. Looking back at the compound of buildings as he now entered his personal airship, in a hushed voice he whispered to himself, "This time it better work!"

Evin had not been expecting Dawn to say she was leaving them and indeed felt sad and worried that she was leaving his company so suddenly in dangerous territory. But despite the danger, Dawn had made up her mind and there was no way for Evin to convince her otherwise before they finished their breakfast at the pokemon center. From there they went their separate ways; while Evin went to get more equipment at the local shop Dawn left the city for the next on foot with Piplup in her arms.

Rika wasn't happy to see Dawn leave on such terms from what happened that morning, but she also saw this as a great opportunity to get to know Evin better and perhaps train with him one on one, which was something she had wanted to do for quite a while now since she evolved. Evin ended up buying a bike that could fold up like a piece of origami small enough to easily hook to the end of his backpack and easily carry. He got a few other pieces of primary equipment along with some great balls and potions with the money he had saved up. After he was done buying stuff though, he was totally broke again. He knew he needed to win some battles if he was going to be able to get more money for stuff, so he decided it was time to quit wasting time and move on.

From there he returned to the pokemon center and gave Professor Juniper a call and informed her of the situation of how Dawn had just left them to continue on her own and that he was sorry that he couldn't stop her. The Professor clucked her tongue with a bit of worry on her face, but then said, "It's really not either of our calls to say who she travels with. I really would have preferred she stayed with you to keep herself further from danger, but if she's become uncomfortable about traveling with you then that is as we say is that."

Evin then gave her a status report of what had been occurring with his mind and body and told her about how Rika helped him get some of the powers under manageable control after she evolved so that he didn't feel like he was going to go insane. Juniper was very pleased and interested in what he had to say about his condition and asked him many more questions before giving more advice, "From what you have told me, I get the impression that now might be a good time for you to take some time away from traveling to train yourself since you are also alone now.

Having Rika evolve to help you with your problems is good in the sense that it means that she is comfortable with you, as everything you do together strengthens your bonds as a team, but depending on her ability for too long is not so great. If you have powers of your own then you need to master them and in this sense Rika could be your trainer just as much as you are hers. Lucario are known to have some psychic tendencies along with the ability to use such attacks with some training and are also known to be able to use a telepathy speech of sorts. Those abilities coupled with her instinctual mastery of spiritual aura makes her the ideal companion for someone in your unique predicament.

My suggestion to you now is this; continue in the direction that you are headed, but along the way find an out of sight camping area where no one will be able intrude on you without you knowing about it. Once you find such a place stay there and train until you've either mastered your abilities or your food and water supplies run out. If your supplies are the first to run dry just remember that you can by all means stay at any pokemon center for as long as is required. Nurse Joy may become curious as to why you are hanging around so much, but so long as you say it is for extra training she shouldn't press you too hard."

Evin was thoughtful of all the professor had said and thanked her for the advice and said that he would do just as she had said when he got the chance and then said he would give her a call if anything else came up. Juniper nodded and replied, "Take care." Evin sighed as the call ended; already he thought this day was going to be pretty strange, without Dawn around to fill him in on the things he didn't know, he wasn't sure how inconspicuous he could remain when talking to others.

Sighing again as he picked up his things he started to make his way back outside and then began walking with Rika at his side to the city gardens. They walked at a leisurely pace while Evin continued to think and hope Dawn would be alright on her own. He knew he shouldn't have had this feeling of dread since Rika was with him, but he just couldn't shake that feeling as he and Rika left the city behind and started down the same path that Dawn had taken a while earlier to the next city.

The daycare center came into view about half way through the day and Evin battled some of the young trainers around it before he stopped to talk to the daycare man. Asking the daycare man about what he should do with his two water type pokemon that had become mates since he hoped that he could somehow figure out what to do about them.

Hearing Evin's plea delighted the old man beyond compare as he began telling Evin of all the mating habits the two water types of those kind often had and went on into telling him, "Your two water types have all the right compatibilities, from type and gender to nearly the same forms, they should be kept together at all times and as far as battles and contests go they should preform very well together. As their bonds to each other grow so will their cooperative performances, mated pairs are often the goal of any and all trainers that want to form wonderful duet teams since same genders don't always see eye-to-eye and non-mate couples usually flounder in moments of confusion."

The daycare man congratulated Evin on having a mated pair once more, but now asked a few questions of his own, "You've never had to deal with mated pairs before have you?" Evin nodded, "Hmm, well I started thinking that this was the case by the look of your expression. The best thing to do for them is to just let them do what they would in their free time even if the acts make you and sometimes your other pokemon feel uncomfortable, so long as it's not in open public. You trainers all being so young all the time I sometimes forget that a good number of you aren't very well versed in how life beyond school really works. It's a part of life lad, learn to love and respect it. You being around thirteen or fourteen I would have thought that you would have at least started to sort this stuff out by now, but I guess that's just how most parents are these days, keeping their kids in the dark for as long as they can. Anyway, take care lad; I got work to attend to."

(More like helping pokemon get over their own fears of having sex) Evin thought; needless to say, this was not the information Evin had been seeking. He didn't like the fact that he had been told to just let them keep on doing lewd things with each other and he was dead sure he never wanted to see Spazz falling head over heels in a match again whenever he had Aqua use attract. (but if that's is going to be how things work out best, so be it.) he thought again and sighed at his own helplessness.

Continuing down the road with Rika, Evin had learned more than he had ever wanted to about pokemon mating habits and another interesting fact about how pokemon laid their eggs. He would have never thought about it before something like that had become relevant information, but he was glad to hear that it was a quick and relatively painless event when it was time. Though the one thing he did think to be rather strange for a warm-blooded critter like Rika was that she too would lay eggs instead of having a normal pregnancy. The thought made him blush before he tried to shake the thought out of his head.

Rika just tilted her head since she didn't quite know why he had suddenly turned red in the face and shook his head. She in all this time had been a little preoccupied by all the different sexual smells wafting around in the air from behind the daycare and hadn't paid too much attention to what Evin and the old man had been talking about. Following Evin after leaving the old man to his work, Rika couldn't fathom why Evin was acting so flustered whenever she drew near.

It was a vexing change in his personality that she wasn't going to put up with as she became annoyed by it, but then, quite boldly, she pushed aside his awkward shyness by grabbing his arm and forcibly walking beside him and happily sighed from his mild protest. A few hours and a few embarrassed blushes later Evin was amazed at how much better he was starting to feel, not only about the sexual subject, but also his own body as well. It was as if he had just gotten over a bad cold, as the pressure of his mind lessened considerably more now that they were away from the city.

Rika had been able to block most of his mental tensions while in the city, but not all of it, now however he was free as a bird as the rest of his tension drained away since for some reason just knowing more about the subject that had been bothering him for a while now had put his mind to rest. Though, Rika's acts of clinginess on his arm could still unsteady him a bit whenever he let his eyes wander over her body. Now that he knew more about pokemon mating habits and how pointless it would have been to try and stop it, he didn't feel quite so out of sorts by it.

Walking on, they encountered a few pairs of trainers along the way and battled in friendly completion to help Rika discover her new skills and weaknesses. As per the usual Rika was still a handful for Evin to keep under control as she often got over-excited or angry when she was hit, but wasn't quite as foolhardy as she was before. Evin could tell that she still longed to use whatever moves struck her fancy, but he was thankful that she at least gave him the moments he needed to think of a strategy of either defense or attack.

Everyone always seemed so courteous after a battle that Evin started to wonder if this was what this world was supposed to be like when evil teams weren't trying to take it over. Everything was so peaceful as far as emotions went, even while battling things still seemed to remain friendly. "I can hardly believe that this place is really at war with this kind of an atmosphere." Evin remarked after their last battle, "Everyone we've met seems to be of good nature and no one seems to be holding grudges over losing."

Shaking her head so that she could get her dreadlocks back in place Rika replied with her aura saying, ~Well, I don't know about the good natured part since everything I've faced today has tried to beat me to a pulp, but since I beat them to the punch and they were still able to smile afterwards I suppose you're right.~ Rika stopped and turned side to side for a moment before Evin noticed that she was having a thought of something she was having trouble saying, "What's wrong?"

Looking up from her paws that were pressed together she said, ~I've been wondering. Now that Dawn is gone and we are now alone, when were we going to go looking for a place where we can train alone like the professor said?~ Feeling anxious about wanting to get used to her own abilities was only part of it, but what she really wanted to do was to see what Evin was also capable of as she felt genuinely curious. Now that Dawn wasn't around, Evin had to agree that he was also kind of anxious to see what other powers he had and had to thank her again for keeping his sensing abilities in check as he thought about what to do next.

The sun was beginning to set, so he had to think quickly as they both ran down the road for a bit and finally found the spot he had been looking for near a cave entrance. Looking between the cave and the forest, the choice wasn't hard. Evin hated dark enclosed places, a feeling made all the more potent since his arrival in that world. Choosing to stay off the beaten paths, Evin and Rika squeezed through the trees into yet another clearing just north of the cave entrance. By the looks of things he was possibly the only one to have gone through the trees in years, so he was convinced that this was the ideal place to pitch camp.

It was getting dark now, so he had to work fast to get the tent up. Letting Aqua and Spazz out of their balls, Evin asked them and Rika to walk around and see if they could find some firewood for the night. by the time light had left the sky he was finished and while Aqua and Spazz returned fumbling around in the dark Rika remained nowhere in sight. Getting worried Evin first started the fire with the meager amount of sticks that had been gathered and hoped that Rika could use it as a beacon to come back to.

Minutes trickled by, but she never returned. Telling Aqua and Spazz to stay put, Evin took a flashlight from his bag and the knife from his belt and advanced into the darkness. His senses were still being blocked, so he figured that she must have still been nearby and most likely okay, but he couldn't begin to even guess why she hadn't come back yet if she were okay.

"Rika!" Evin yelled in a hushed tone before the sound of movement caused him to freeze where he was. ~Don't move and turn off that light.~ came Rika's voice in his head, ~The pack has nearly moved on to another area.~ looking around with only his eyes as he clicked the light off, Evin whispered, "Where are you?" No reply came, but from the sound of grass being trampled by many paws Evin guessed that they had just narrowly escaped being detected by a lot of unwanted company. Finally the clearing grew quiet again and Evin risked turning his head and again saying a bit louder, "Where are you?"

~Not telling.~ came the reply this time with a hint of playfulness. From the sound of it, she was turning this into a game of hide and seek now that the danger had passed. "Awe come one, do you have to do this now?" he complained as he clicked the light back on. "It's really dark out here when there's no moon." The bushes moved behind him, but just before he could turn to look Rika sprang out right in front of him like a raptor in Jurassic park. He hit the ground with a thud as Rika happily said, ~Got ya!~

Evin glared up at her as she had all four paws on his chest while her tail wagged happily back and forth. "That wasn't funny. I was seriously worried about you when you didn't come back and now you've just shaved about ten years off my life span with that scare you just gave me." Evin's scolding didn't faze Rika's proudness at all as she just replied, ~I didn't stay out on purpose, I was gathering sticks when a pack of mightyena approached and if it hadn't been for me you'd be all chewed up by now.~

Not very convinced that she had just saved his life, Evin pushed her off before saying, "Okay whatever, so where is this wood you've been gathering? We need to get back to camp quickly before the fire burns out." Rika tilted her head in only a way she could, which to Evin always reminded him of a dog giving him a funny look before she hopped up and trailed off into the tallgrass. Chasing after her in grass that went clear over his head was not Evin's idea of fun or funny as he tried to keep up with her as each step slapped more sharp blades against his face and often came close to poking his eyes.

Finally he reaching a clearing, Evin took a moment to catch his breath, but Rika was nowhere in sight. Calling her name Evin wandered around until the grass behind him began to shake. He wasn't sure if it was her or not as he shined his light at the moving foliage, but what emerged kind of shocked him as a pile of sticks came crashing down on top of him. ~Quit shining that light in my eyes!~ came Rika's voice in his head, which even from under the stack of sticks relieved Evin's nerves.

"How in the world did you find so many sticks!?" Evin asked sounding amazed. Rika gave him a smug smile as she picked half the stack up off of him and said, ~Very quickly.~ with a hint of pride. Maneuvering the remaining sticks back into a pile, Evin picked up the rest that had fallen on him as he stood and said, "Okay, we have enough wood here to last us for about four days to a week, but we need to hurry up and get back to camp before Aqua and Spazz get any more worried than they already are. Don't go running off this time; I need you to lead me since I can't use my flashlight right now." Rika made a chuckling sound, but nodded her head that she would do as he had asked and began slowly leading the way through the thick brush of tallgrass.

By the time Evin and Rika made it back to camp the fire that Evin had started just before leaving was nothing but a small pile of smoldering ash that Aqua and Spazz were trying to keep from going out by throwing in little bits of dry grass and weeds on. It was a useless effort, but one that had kept them both busy until Rika emerged from the darkness beyond the campsite. Not being able to see her face, both water types reflexively shot her with torrents of water as they knocked Rika clean off her feet before a bunch of soaked sticks then came crashing down on top of her.

"Stop you two, it's us! We're back!" Evin shouted, but Rika by this time was struggling out from under the sticks with a growl of pure rage before Evin dropped his pile and arm locked her shoulders so she couldn't go after them. Both Aqua and Spazz were relieved to see them, but terrified that Rika was going to break loose from Evin's hold as they huddled in each other's arms looking at the scary sight at the edge of camp. "Come on Rika, calm down. They didn't know it was you." Evin urged, but she continued to struggle until her limbs grew heavy and the fire smoldered further out of existence as the last signs of light went out. Her fur was wet and spotted with mud by the time Evin let go, but instead of pummeling the two for shooting her and ruining the wood she had gone through so much trouble to collect, all she could do was mope while Evin used some from his stack to get a fire going again.

"Don't worry about it Rika, they'll be fine to use in a couple days. Just set them out flat on the ground so they can dry." Aqua and Spazz tiptoed around her as they helped Evin finish getting things in order since it was easy to tell that Rika was still mad just by looking at the way she glared at them and had her ears so stiffly pinned down. After getting things ready for the night and now being able to see the mud in her fur from the firelight, Evin called Rika over to him as he began rummaging through his pack.

She was hesitant at first, but after talking an extra moment to pout, she came over and sat in front of him where he had pointed. Pulling out a brush, Evin then set to brushing her from the top of her ears and worked his way all the way down to her tail. She loved every moment of it and would have blushed when he turned her around to work on her front if it hadn't been for her dark colored fur. The feel of the brush on her face was nice, but it felt exquisite as he worked it down her chest as the bristles softly caught against the nipple nubs concealed under her fur.

She was so into how great this all felt that after he had stopped she almost missed him saying, "Okay, stand up so I can get your legs." Her ears twitched as her eyes began to open before she finally grasped what he had just asked and blushed even harder as she did what he wanted and stood with her pelvis right in front of his face. She trembled and shook allover in wonderful pleasure as she felt the brush start along her thighs; naughty thoughts only inches from her mind as she felt his breath tickle her undersides while he worked.

Looking a little red in the face himself Rika thought, she watched him use the brush to get the mud out from around her groin area and beneath as he tried his hardest to make sure her pelt was restored to its former pristine shine. Naughty thoughts were very hard to keep away at this point however, since each sweep along her curves made her squirm with needful pleasure as each brush stroke left her sex feeling that much more ready for pleasure. It was hard to keep herself under control, but just as he had reached the tips of her ticklish toes he asked her to turn around again.

Thinking of him brushing her bottom made her squirm even more as she happily turned for him. She wanted him to do it. She wanted him to grab her ass and have his way with her as she continued squirming back and forth under his strokes. But it wasn't long after he had already finished with her rump that he finally complained, "Stop hitting me with your tail. It's making it hard for me to finish, with it slapping my face as you keep moving like that."

Her little world of wanting him to do naughty things to her came crashing down that very instant as she stopped moving and wagging her tail while he finished. Once he was done, Evin said, "Well your fur looks all bright shiny and clean again and it looked like you quite enjoyed that. Are you still mad at Aqua and Spazz?" In fact she had forgotten about what Aqua and Spazz had done to her up to that point, but as of now she couldn't see holding a grudge as she shook her head. She was however feeling extremely mindful and embarrassed that she had lost herself while he had been cleaning her and kept her back to everyone as she felt how wet her nether region had become.

An extreme need was burning her up from the inside out as she tried to keep her front hidden from the others for the rest of the night until they had all settled down in the tent to sleep. In the tent she ended up having to bed down with Evin cuddling up behind her in his sleeping bag while he was still fully clothed since the tent was so small. Secretly though she wished that he was out of the bag and completely naked as she squirmed and ground her bottom into his front. Since he was already asleep though, all he did was slightly groan before she caught herself doing things she knew she shouldn't.

Her ears went down; the need she was feeling was nearly unbearable as she pawed at her slit to increase the pleasure. She wanted him so bad she could hardly stand it, but at the same time she thought that he only felt that way towards Dawn since they were both human even if he had been overcome by his embarrassment. Her pawing continued, and before long she was squirming and panting with silent moans as her paw slowly became saturated with her own juices.

She was being naughty and knew it, but felt that she had to do something about the need that was burning within her before she resorted to her most desperate desire of ripping Evin's cloths off and taking him for her own. She started humping back and forth and drooling as desire overflowed; it was too much for her to hold back as she stuff her free paw in her mouth and began convulsing while Evin began snoring behind her as he had turned to his back.

Slowly, Rika's breathing returned to normal as her body relaxed from her release before she removed her paw from her mouth where her teeth had left four small holes in her flesh. Licking the blood off, she finally started to regain her senses as she then felt how wet her groin and legs had become. She sat up feeling sullied and strained her eyes to see the mess she had made of her area just outside Evin's sleeping bag.

Her paws were soaked with both drool and her own sexual fluid and her furry thighs were beginning to soak up the rest. Thinking back to when Evin had cleaned up a wet spill before, she quickly crawled over to his backpack and tried to open it. Having paws instead of hands would have already made her task difficult, but with them being so wet still she had but one option and she began licking them dry.

Her own fluids weren't her favorite idea of a midnight snack, but she made the extra effort to finish quickly since she could feel more coldly running down her legs. Once her paws were relatively dry and no longer sticky she finally put both paws together as she got hold of one of the zippers and pulled it open. Looking inside she then fumbled around until she found what she was looking for and brought out a roll of paper hand towels.

First she started by cleaning herself up where she was, but then moved back to her area and finished there. She had used up a fair number of towels by the time she was finished and quickly exited the tent whilst holding all of the used paper. Outside she quickly tossed the sullied paper into the dying fire before then grabbing a few more pieces of wood and tossing them in too. She still felt too ill-at-ease to settle herself down enough to go back to sleep, so she left the camp and proceeded through the tallgrass.

By morning, Evin awoke to something missing. At first he squinted his eyes and looked around as he tried to remember, but it wasn't until Aqua and Spazz yawned beside him that he looked over to where Rika had been and found her missing. Bursting out of the tent and looking all around Evin called Rika's name. No reply came and nothing moved. Worried, he went running through the tallgrass where he and Rika had emerged from last night and found her in a small clearing on the other side sitting in a meditative stance.

Immediately relieved, Evin walked up to her expecting her to either jump up and surprise him or just open her eyes and greet him, but once he was up next to her he heard snoring. His eye twitched as he thought, (Yeah... I should have expected this more so than the other two things.) Sighing as he picked her up, he carried her back to camp and put her to bed inside the tent while Aqua and Spazz busied themselves with finding a nearby water source.

Making some instant coffee with the water that had still been left in his canteen, Evin took a long gulp before taking a moment to wonder what kind of reaction he'd get from Rika if he gave her some. He imagined her running around knocking down one tree after another and other things along those lines of over active hyper energy. He shook his head trying to forget the images; he was much more comfortable with her being a bit on the tired side instead of having caffeine dumped into her system.

Yawning one last time, Evin stood and stretched his entire body before starting his morning exercises. A few minutes passed and the sound of Evin's morning exertions eventually awoke Rika from her sleepy slumber. She yawned loudly as she exited the tent and then proceeded to watch Evin exercise before stretching her own cramped muscles. Looking around, she felt almost awestruck that it was only her and him in the camp since she was always used to there being others around.

She liked the thought of it just being him and her together on a journey, but her awe of the moment was quickly cut off just then as Aqua and Spazz came running from the northwest perimeter of the camp sounding very excited. Aqua bounced around holding something in one of her paws before handing it to Evin who just had a perplexed look on his face. At first he though she had just handed him a piece of muddy stone, but when he turned it over he saw something shine in the sunlight past all the hardened dirt and grime.

Taking a moment to carefully clean the built up dirt from the object, Aqua and the others watched him intently. Eventually Evin found himself absorbed in the task of figuring out what the object was and sat down as the little pieces of dirt that slowly fell away. Slowly Evin began to make out the shape of a mini disc no larger than an sd-card and before long after that the rest of the dirt simply fell away to fully reveal the tiny disc. Evin had no idea what was on it, but after Aqua pulled his pokedex out he got the feeling she had seen one of these before.

Looking the mini disc over for any leftover debris or scratches and finding none, he then looked at the dex and found a slot about the same size as the disc. Having taken all the precautions he could, he shrugged before using his thumb to slide the disc in. A download bar appeared on the screen and after a moment a button appeared asking if he wanted to open the application. Evin grimaced a moment as the thought of a virus crossed his mind, but he'd already come this far so he pushed the "yes" button.

The screen went blank, and for a moment Evin thought he had fried his electronic passport and meal ticket in one reckless go, but then he heard a "Ding" as the screen came back on as it then read, "Training material, TM 79 dark pulse, ready for subject knowledge interface." Evin was somewhat baffled for that moment as the screen then flashed a bunch of statistics, since the thought of TMs had totally skipped his mind up until now.

Rika walked up and sniffed as she then asked, "What is it?" Looking up at her he then replied, "It's a program for teaching new moves, but I had never given any thought to how I could use one, much less who on." Chiming in as if on que, the pokedex began in the usual computer voice, "TMs are relatively easy to use for qualified devoted trainers as the instructions will walk the trainer and pokemon through each step of the process... Reading off current compatible members within your stored and in use pokemon. Lucario. Starting scan diagnostic to confirm proper statistics for using energy moves vs physical."

Suddenly light flashed out as the dex scanned Rika's form causing her to jump back in alarm. "Diagnostic complete, subject acceptable for this TM as stats for using energy based abilities are shown to be slightly higher than physical power." Rika felt offended that the little machine had called her physical power weak, but Evin looked over to her and said, "No need to be angry, this is a good thing anyway, I prefer having you use energy moves like aura sphere over getting up close and personal."

Rika huffed, ~But I like up close and personal, I like beating things senseless with my bare paws.~ Evin had an exasperated look along with a slight smirk as he said, "Yeah, I know you do, but I think that is also where you end up getting over-excited and carried away when your opponent is fast enough to dodge and counter you. Still it did say that there was only a slight difference in power, so you will still get your chances for satisfaction. That all aside, this is freakin cool that this things seems to tell us everything we need to know with voice command."

Looking up from the dex again, Evin then asked, "Do you want to learn this one?" Rika walked back up to him and asked, ~A dark type move?~ Evin nodded before he said, "From what I know of it it is a pretty good one, especially if you are facing psychic types or ghosts. It doesn't necessarily match what we are up against currently, but it is still a strong move that few people will expect you to have." Rika tilted her head to and fro as she mulled the idea over, but what seemed to intrigue her the most was the prospects of getting to spend more time training with Evin. Nodding her consent she did a jubilant bounce as Evin then finished punching in the decision they made.

The big day of their first day of training ensued quickly after that; Aqua and Spazz left to find a suitable water source again, while Evin and Rika took turns switching from learning her new abilities to sparing in all out physical strength. Fighting at his normal strength Evin wasn't really able to hold his own in terms of raw power, since whenever they were reduced to wrestling for a victor he would often lose. But in terms of martial arts and strategy Evin had the upper-hand as he tried to teach her everything he had learned from his years of training and practice in his own world.

In an all-out fight as he was, Evin knew that he could never beat her, since as a pokemon her stamina and speed alone kept trumping and outstripping him of any tactical advantages he could manage to gain as her opponent. He liked that she was so strong and still learning how to use new fighting techniques, but he was also getting tired of being the only one getting beat over and over while her ego got bigger with every victory. So after their last bout that night, with her as the victor again and also feeling confident enough that she had learned dark pulse and everything else he had shown her to a competent level, Evin finally stated that tomorrow they would focus more on drawing out his own powers.

"Your constant winning is starting to get a bit too repetitive," Evin said a bit crestfallen, "If it wasn't for the only ability that I have figured out how to use I would have been hamburger by now with all the bruises and cuts you gave me today. Which is why, starting tomorrow, you will be helping me train to use the rest of my powers and remove the block keeping my other powers contained." Rika looked like she was too excited to pay attention as she was still bouncing around like a hyper four-year-old, but she did manage to reply, ~I've been waiting for that too, since I'm still curious about what else you can do.~ Evin didn't know how she could have even listened to him, much less replied to what he had said while she was running and jumping all around the outskirts of the camp area the way she was and exasperatedly sighed.

Keeping up with her constantly overflowing energy was always hard, but right now it was impossible. He tried to think of a way to put her extra energy to good use and the idea finally came to him. "Hey Rika." ~What?~ she replied. "Want to go swimming? I'm sure Aqua and Spazz have found a place to swim by now and since we are all sweaty maybe we should go join them." For the moment Rika stopped moving as she considered his question, ~But what if they are... you know, romancing each other and doing...~ she didn't bother to continue.

Evin gulped for a moment as that part hadn't crossed his mind until just then before he said, "Well if they are doing that sort of stuff and if it's at a river, then we can just get in a little up stream." He finished with a blush. Agreeing to go together, Rika lead the way since she was able to sense exactly where the two water types were at in the dying sunlight just before it got completely dark.

Upon arriving at a wide but slow moving river they found the two water types resting on the shore. It was kind of obvious that they had been at it again recently just as Rika had pointed out back at camp, but as it was they were enjoying a good long rest after their last bouts of friskiness. Taking off his shoes and socks, Evin tested the water with his foot to find that the water was oddly warm and said, "Well it's a pleasant surprise that river water like this is warm, but that only really makes me wonder why." Rika tilted her head questioningly and Evin quickly said, "Oh forget it! The water's warm go for it." With that, Rika dashed by him at inhuman speed and rocket launched herself into the air to fly nearly half way across the river before she balled up and did the best impression of a cannonball Evin had ever seen.

Laughing at how unbelievable that was, Evin took the rest of his clothes off and waded in; the water was very warm but cool enough to still be refreshing as he guessed that the water must have come from some sort of volcanic water source or hot spring. He had never heard of a volcanic water river before so he hoped that the heat source was at least a few miles away and not directly below his feet. Rika had spotted him getting in naked and with devilishly playful curiosity she swam back to where he was and before Evin could react she tackled him.

Evin's idea of going in naked was to keep his cloths dry, but he couldn't deny that being naked while swimming and playing also felt good as he and she then began roughhousing and splashing each other like children. The rough and tumble watery fun lasted for about an hour before Evin finally said that it was time for bed and left the water to put his cloths back on. Shaking off the water about the same way Rika would, Evin was dressed again in seconds before Rika came out and deliberately stood next to him and shook herself. "AKE! Rika! I was trying to keep my cloths dry so I could sleep in them!"

Rika just giggled and to that all Evin could do was grumble as they returned to camp and got a fire started. Put out that his cloths were actually very wet in places, Evin strung two sticks together by the fire to make a makeshift cloths line and hung all but his boxer underwear and then continued onto making dinner. Rika at that moment however was put out in a different way since she didn't succeed in making it to where he needed to take it all off when she quite liked seeing him running around naked.

Once again she caught herself thinking naughty thoughts, thoughts that were driving her nether region haywire as she could once again feel a familiar non water related dampness building up between her legs. Questioning herself, she wondered if it was normal for her kind to have such attractions towards humans as the idea of getting Evin to mate with her caused her to feel embarrassed for a moment. Evin looked up from the food he was cooking wondering why she had suddenly begun rocking back and forth, but from the masked look she made before she looked away from him he decided that it was just her over abundant energy acting up again and went back to what he was doing.

They ate dinner in awkward silence, as no one was sure what to say while Aqua and Spazz continued whispering to one another the way they usually did when they weren't making better use of their time. It was only a short while after that before they all began yawning and moved to go to bed. Inside the tent, sleeping quarters were beginning to seem a bit cramped now that Rika was about the same size as Evin and given her sharp chest and paw spikes things could get a little dangerous if she ever rolled over in her sleep. It was a problem that he felt needed to be rectified the next time he was in town so they weren't almost sleeping on top of each other, which for him would eliminate his other problem of feeling embarrassed as he slid in behind her.

Like before Rika liked the feeling of having him so close behind her as she once again ground her furry behind against him and giggled when she felt him tens up. Evin thought she was teasing him, as he was already a bit on edge from swimming with her a while ago as an erection that had started when they were playing had never died-down. Now in the tent with her in front of him, he could feel her soft furred rear rubbing against the fabric of his sleeping-bag right where his erection was. He didn't exactly want to do anything with her, but the feeling was still enough to stoke his pubescent urges into getting him very hard and feeling a bit restless as the rubbing continued late into the night. He felt a little vexed as this continued, as the pleasure was never enough to fulfill his needs but also felt nice enough to not make her stop.

The next morning Evin woke feeling a bit tired along with also having a ruthlessly hard erection tenting his boxers. It was a mortifying thought to have any of the others see him like this, but nature was calling in the worst way and he needed to answer. Getting out of bed proved to be easier than he expected, but even after relieving himself the raging boner he had didn't seem to want to go away and was easy to spot through his tented boxers. Putting on his cloths before the others came out of the tent he then busied himself picking up the camp and telling the others that they were moving camp closer to the water so that Aqua and Spazz were nearby. Walking as he was however, was a little problematic as the movement caused him to chafe a bit, which also made walking normal a bit hard as he tried to keep from drawing attention.

Rika in the meantime, could tell that something was a bit off about him today and while she was concerned she made no effort to approach him on it as she carried her rather large over grown pile of sticks that she had added to since the other night. Her primary concern today was what kind of powers she would help Evin discover, as she imagined him looking like a scary bad-ass shooting lasers out of his eyes or him being able to forcefully subdue her with inhuman strength like he had nearly done once before to some thugs.

The camp was set back up in minutes by some rocks near the water once they had gotten close to the river. They were now very far from the beaten path, so Evin had absolutely no doubts that they would be left completely alone without drawing any attention if things got loud. During all the chafing and work while setting the camp back up his erection had finally defused itself and no longer bothered him before he walked over to Rika and said, "Oaky, I think it's time that we begin and by that I do mean removing the mental blocks you have on me."

Rika hopped foot to foot as she excitedly prepared to do as he asked before she held her paws out over her head as if she would put her arms around his head. Evin stepped forward until his head was in between her paws and with a dizzying rush he felt his senses expand to all corners of the clearing and beyond. He noticed that the range had grown while being suppressed and that it felt stronger than before. ~How do you feel?~ Rika asked, Evin looked up a little dazed as he said, "Dizzy mostly; it's gotten more powerful since the last time I was able to sense things like this."

~No real surprise there, it was still developing when I evolved and blocked it.~ Evin tried to focus and rein in his outstretched senses which was a difficult task even with Rika's pointers and help. Within a few hours and with a lot of help from Rika feeding him information on how she managed her own mental powers, Evin finally figured out how to bring his own wandering senses to stay close to him or stay focused on only one thing; thereby also figuring out how to alter his own fighting strength.

By being able to control his body at a different level than normal, he was able to temporarily remove the natural safeguards that kept his muscles from injuring themselves and exert extreme amounts of speed and strength. But it was only after a few sparing sessions with Rika that Evin realized that the skill was double edged. Every time he moved at an accelerated rate or hit harder than normally possible he'd feel an after math of pain all the way into his bones that could only be remedied by healing himself. Putting up with pain was becoming old hat though and though the pain from the movements hurt quite a bit afterwards, it was still nothing in comparison to some other pains he had endured.

Training continued as such for the rest of the day now that he knew a bit more about how to put his powers to use, as he could now keep Rika on her toes now that he could win against her in a brawl. When evening came, they once again frolicked and played in the river as they had done the day before, which for them both felt like a great way to end a hot sweaty day of ceaseless training before Evin even decided that it was a good time to wash his cloths. To that end his cloths were not holding up well to the abuse of his training sessions, as there were yet a few more rips and tears in both his pants and shirt as he thought that if he wasn't careful, he'd end up having to walk into town looking like a worn down hobo.

The thought caused him to smirk, since it was kind of true and very sad that he had no home to return to. Once again he wondered how his family back home was coping without him; it had been long enough now that he hoped his dad had called off the search, though he knew otherwise since his dad was a bit relentless. He longed to be home again and wished for them not mourn his supposed death, which for him was still a controversial issue in the regard that he still wasn't sure if everything that had happened to him so far was real or not.

Pushing the thought aside once again, Evin continued washing the clothing in his hands while Rika played further out in the middle of the river with the two water types. Aqua and Spazz for the first time in a long while had joined Rika for some good-old-fashioned water time fun, since it had been a long time since all three of them had shared any social time. In the water Rika was at a huge disadvantage as she tried to catch the playful duet while they could easy swim right between her legs to get behind her at a moment's notice. It frustrated Rika that no matter how hard she tried she just couldn't catch either one of the slippery mons that kept laughing at her, which eventually led her back to thinking that Evin was a much better choice of targets.

Diving beneath the water she swam towards him like a shark as he looked completely oblivious to his surroundings while washing his human coverings. A wide smirk stretched along her face to give her a devilish look as she got within range. Then as she shot out of the water at him happily saying ~Got you!~ she then realized with surprise that she had totally missed her target and sailed right by him into a muddy patch on the riverbank with a (Splat!). Evin and the others all busted up laughing as Rika lay still for a surprised moment, then peeling herself out off the ground the others could hear the audible suction of the mud holding on to her like tape being pulled off of something. There was no end to her humiliation, as then the others finally got a good look at her as she turned around and began laughing even harder.

Half her face and her entire front side were completely caked with dark brown mud and the surprise and embarrassment distorting her face was priceless as she then asked, ~How did you know?~ his answer to her question was slow in coming, but then, "My mind isn't blocked like before, remember? Even with my meager amount of control over that ability now it wasn't hard to sense that you were about to pounce me and all I really had to do was step to the side when you launched." Her face still shown complete befuddlement, but now that it was all over she was beginning to turn angry from all the laughing still coming from out in the water and barked,

<You two better zip it before I make you!> Evin didn't understand what she had just said, but Aqua and Spazz just roared with more laughter since her threat didn't seem to carry on account of her half mud smeared face and body. Growling, Rika powered up an aura sphere and launched it, but just as it was approaching both water types dived down where it then tried to follow but then quickly defused. Angrily firing one after the other while the otter and weasel continued laughing at her as they popped back up after each shot, Rika lost herself in a fit of rage before Evin stormed out of the water and smacked her as he said, "Stop! You do not attack friends or family out of anger!"

For a moment Rika was dazed. The slap across the face didn't hurt much, but coming from him was as effective as having the wind knocked out of her as she completely froze up in shock. A moment passed before she finally lifted a paw to rub her cheek and realized what she had done before tears started to dribble down her face as she shook in place from the adrenalin. Evin wasn't sure how he should handle this since he was still naked and still a bit peeved over her losing her cool over such a meaningless encounter.

Putting his hands on her shoulders he said, "You need to learn to just let it go. Some fights are just not worth fighting and when friends and family are involved you should never hit or attack them out of anger." Rika wiped at her closed eyes and nodded. "Come on, let's get you cleaned up to get ready for bed; it's been a long day and tomorrow will most likely be longer." Rika's ears perked up as she asked, ~Why?~ Evin smiled, "Because you're going to show me exactly how you use aura sphere and that's because I believe I might be able to copy it."

Rika sniffed one last time as she then smiled and nodded, "But first we need to get this mud off your face since it makes you look like a clown." Once again Rika would have blushed if she could and with him holding her shoulders he walked her back into the water and helped her wash the mud off. Dinner was once again very quiet and uneventful as Evin's cloths hung near the fire to dry and being that her earlier disciplining from Evin had killed her naughty thoughts and mood for the night, sleep came easy to everyone.

When morning came, Evin yawned as he said, "Okay everyone, time to get up." Aqua and Spazz just made little groaning sounds as they covered their faces from wanting to sleep-in, but Rika was up and ready to get her day started in only a moment's time as she exited the tent before Evin. It was easy to tell that she was excited, as she had almost totally forgotten about breakfast while beginning her stretching exercises. Aqua and Spazz were about as lively as logs and never left the tent, but since they weren't directly involved in today's training Evin decided to let them rest a bit longer as he quickly finished his snack bar breakfast and shortly after joined Rika in stretching.

Stretched and ready to go, Evin asked how to begin. Rika had spent part of her night thinking about how she would explain instructions on how to tap spirit energy to give it physical form, but like everything it was never as simple as it seemed. It took Evin nearly three hours to master drawing the energy to his palms and another four to conjure an actual sphere. By this time nearly half the day had passed and still his spheres were nowhere near as powerful as Rika's, since his could only do about a third of the damage as hers. Though still imperfect, they wondered if his current power was all that he was capable of as he poured all his strength into one sphere after another. At this point Rika decided that it would be best to backtrack a bit to learn more about the sensory side of aura power since it directly affected an aura sphere's ability to lock on targets.

Sensory training had been going well as Aqua and Spazz lazily dragged themselves to the edge of the tent entrance to watch them, but they had only got about an hour into practicing this exercise before both Evin and Rika detected people nearby. From the feel of the aura Evin asked, "Are they good or bad, something about it feels creepy, but I'm not sure?" Rika's eyes were closed as she replied; ~They are most definitely bad. They reek of malice and greed as not even one of them including their pokemon show signs of good.~ It took Evin all but a moment to then ask, "Do they know we are here?" Rika took a step back, ~Yes!~

Running over to his things at the tent, Evin put on his belt with the pokeballs and returned Aqua and Spazz to theirs before scrambling to pack his things. Rika flattened the tent easily enough, but just as she began folding the material, "Well well well, what do we have here?" came a man's dulled voice of only half the distance of a football field away. Evin abruptly turned to the five men and as he saw the big red R on each one's shirt he quickly said under his breath, "Rika use aura sphere on them!" knowing that he and she needed to score at least a small tactical advantage since they were so outnumbered.

Firing a sphere faster than the men could react since she had been pre-prepared to fire all along, the men tried to jump out of the way, but for the one farthest to the left his fate had been sealed as the sphere swerved right at him to hit him squarely in the chest. The man yelled in agony as he was then blown back into the tallgrass, sensing the danger that Rika posed, the others then called forth the combined might of their small army.

"You better leave if you know what's good for you." came Evin's retort to what the lead man said earlier. The four remaining Rockets all looked at each other, then back at Evin and Rika before then busting up laughing as their leader said, "You've got balls kid, but I think you're a bit out of your league trying to take us on." Evin glanced at Rika, "Don't quit firing aura spheres, keep them all at range for as long as possible while trying to support me." Looking franticly worried Rika asked, ~Support, why?! Are you rushing in?!~

Evin's only response was, "Yes!" before he shot off at inhuman speed catching the Rockets off-guard as he was suddenly upon them. The men's expressions of smug confidence and giggles immediately changed to that of fear and anger as Evin drew his knife and slashed at them while another one of their number had his number punched when an aura sphere nailed him like the last person. As before this once again sent another one crashing through the tallgrass injured and out of the fight, but this was little cause for celebration as the pokemon army now moved on the offensive and began attacking.

The onix and geodudes went down in seconds along with a few mightyena and houndour thanks to Rika's quick aura sphere firing, but with her energy wearing down the remaining steelix, skarmory, blastoise, houndoom, and golbat were more than she bargained for as she dodged a hyper beam. Evin in this time had slashed up the lead member's arms pretty bad trying to get the man to call off the attack as he kept repeating "Leave!" trying to make them take the hint. But either by sheer dumb stubbornness or determination the men never tried to retreat as one called the steelix over to defend them. Evin knew his knife was useless against such a large heavy steel type and jumped out of the way as its two ton iron tail came smashing down right where he had been.

Backing off from the group momentarily, Evin back flipped over a blast of water that had come his direction and shot off in a zigzag strait at the blastoise that had shot at him. Sweat flew from his body with every exertion and the pain from muscles, bones, and joints throbbed in unison as he passed right between the blastoise's legs from behind and sunk his knife in at the knee joint of one leg. Being such a heavy pokemon the blastoise's leg crumpled an instant later as water then quickly erupted from both of the hydro canons on its shell and nailed the houndoom while it howled in pain.

Once again Evin rushed in for the men still barking orders at the remaining pokemon, to which the steelix then blocked Evin's path for only a moment before he dashed by. Feeling the strain on his body reaching a painful peak, Evin hoped there wasn't a limit to how much he could keep exerting himself, but then it was as if that very thought caused him to lose it as every muscle in his body locked up before he fell skidding across the ground. Steelix, Golbat, and Skarmory converged on Rika right then and while she was able to dodge most of their attacks she was also able to land a few heavy blows on the steel types. Ultimately however it was the golbat's screeching attacks that had begun to get the best of her, as her ears began to bleed. Finally even she could take no more and began holding her ears before taking a brutal blow from the steelix's tail.

Locked up and laying face flat on the ground, Evin heard the men laughing as well as Rika's pained yelp as she was bashed aside by the giant steel snake. He tried to force his body to move, but all he succeeded in doing was causing himself to yell out in pain as he could barely manage a twitch. Knowing that Rika's fight was going bad and that his own situation didn't look much better, he then did the only thing he knew he could do as he began healing. Slowly the scratches on his face began to fade along with the paralyzing pain of his locked muscles while Rika's frantic fight continued.

The Rockets quickly took notice that Evin was recovering and though he couldn't believe his eyes, the lead man and the others called back all their pokemon except the steelix and used smoke bombs to cover their escape as their leader called out, "Finish it off Steelix, then meet us at the designated area!" Dread gripped Evin's chest as he franticly tried to free his body from being completely locked up. Horrible pain swept through his body as he tried to move again, but then just as he had finally freed his upper torso he saw that the steelix had Rika tightly coiled held up in the air. Still trying to free the rest of his body it finally dawned on him why it was holding her that way as it then brought its head low and very close to her as it began to gather power for a pointblank fatal hyper beam on her battered form.

Finally having worked the last muscles free, time seemed to stop as Evin rushed forward. His knife dropped from his hand and the world was a blur around him as his hands moved on their own accord as all of his attention focused in on one thing. Everything seemed like it was moving in extreme slow motion just as the steelix's powered up attack looked like it was about to fire, but just in that fraction of time Rika flew out of the snake's grasped coils faster than a lightning strike.

Surprise briefly crossed the steelix's face in the next millisecond that came before Evin's arms jut out in front of him as he near automatically released a massively powerful aura sphere at great speed. Traveling through the air at such high speed, Evin heard a loud bang as the bright orb broke the sound barrier just as his own body began to collapse from extreme exhaustion. With the overpowered attack still waiting to be fired from its mouth, the steelix's eyes went wide as the massive aura sphere made contact and exploded.

Before even a thought of anything could cross its mind the massive explosion thereafter flattened everything in the clearing. The tallgrass near the point of impact was on fire along with a few other nearby areas, but all Evin could see of the main blast sight was a massive smoking hole in the ground. Everything seamed to be shaking all around him as Evin attempted to move, but it was only then that he realized that he and Rika had been knocked back into their old campsite and were feeling the after effects of the powerful concussion from the explosion.

They lay unmoving but still alive as both breathed hard to catch their breaths while the crater of the explosion smoldered. Singe marks speckled Rika's fur and Evin's clothing as they lay there resting since Evin felt like he had a whale laying on him. Trying to heal himself at this point was a tiresome task in itself before he released Aqua and Spazz from their balls. Seeing their trainer and Rika so badly injured and burned, they began to panic, but Evin stated what they needed to do since the danger was gone. So helping both him and Rika sit up straight against a rock, the two water pokemon then tended to their burns before then running around putting out fires that were starting to catch beyond the explosion area.

Either because he didn't have enough energy left to heal himself or because his body had just taken so much abuse that he couldn't heal Evin still ached allover as he tried to stand up. He would have preferred to stay on the ground a bit longer, but seeing Rika's bleeding ears and nose along with an assortment of cuts tainting her fur crimson spurred his efforts before he momentarily walked to the crater left from the explosion. The dip in the crater was twenty-five feet in diameter and had affected a much larger area than that and at the bottom he could see the headless mutilated body of the steelix still writhing.

The smell was nauseating and the site more so as he had trouble controlling his bile. Turning away he noticed something different about Rika; not only had she fallen unconscious but he now saw that her chest spike had been roughly broken off well past her fur-line. Evin was still in shock from the entire situation, but had enough sense to quickly recall Rika to her ball and finish packing him camp supplies and gear.

Recalling Aqua and Spazz to their balls as well, Evin picked up his knife and unfolded the bike he'd gotten and taking one last good look around Evin then road off. Getting through the thick brush and trees ended up requiring Evin to repack the bike, but once he had finally cleared the trees and tall brush as he made it to the road he was able to blast down the trail at high speed until Striaton City came into view just as night began to fall.

The bike ride back to the city had proven to be quite strenuous as Evin had put all of his strength into hastening his return and now as his overused muscles began to cramp up and scream with pain he finally arrived at the police station to report what had happened. Feeling shaky on his feet after alerting the authorities of what had happened, Evin made his way over to the pokemon center as quickly as he could and set Rika's ball on the desk as he franticly asked for help.

Nurse Joy was in shock at seeing him return to her center in this condition and asked him what happened worriedly as she saw how beat up he looked after just leaving a few days before. Evin once again recounted the story of how they were attacked, just as he had with the police and of course didn't say anything about his own powers as he also described Rika's injuries.

Joy immediately snatched up the ball and motioned for him to come around the desk. Doing as she wanted while feeling a bit dazed, he followed her to the backroom where Joy then released Rika from her ball to begin examining her. "You both took on five men from Team Rocket all at once?" Evin nodded before she then continued, "You're the lucky ones; most male trainers come back completely robbed of their pokemon and items or not at all since Team Rocket has become very dangerous of late. They are fighting against team Plasma in this region and are fighting with other organizations in many other regions besides this one for dominance right now.

You're also lucky that her spike didn't break any further down since if it had, it could have most likely killed her. You need to be more careful with your pokemon. I don't want her in any serious fights until she's better, so that means lots of rest and no excitement for at least the next week. The break will mend, but it will take years to grow back, though what you can do is have the rest of her spike sanded down and flattened if you wish, so that it doesn't cause any unwanted inconveniences as it begins to grow back."

Rika had begun to regain consciousness as Nurse Joy finished telling Evin about being able to sand something down. She wasn't sure what it was about, but she was primarily relieved to be back at the pokemon center. Evin told her what Joy had told him while Nurse Joy tended to her cuts and checked her ears. Both Rika and Evin liked the thought of keeping her spike sanded down, as it also eliminated Rika's hugging problem as they then wondered how this would change things. Switching from Rika to Evin in her exam of the two, Joy then had Evin remove his shirt since she could clearly see the burn marks, but what she saw didn't make a lot of sense as she asked, "You were hit by the same explosion weren't you?"

Evin nodded and said, "I know it looks bad on the outside, but I somehow managed to escape with my skin intact, I'm just very worn out to the point that I feel like I could faint at any moment." Nurse Joy regarded him with a momentary weird look, but didn't press him for more information as she began checking the other burnt places thinking that there had to be something on account of how bad all the burn holes looked and the severity of Rika's burns. Finished looking for injuries as she checked the last hole, Nurse Joy requested to see his pokedex before she said, "I'm not sure how you got away without burns, scratches, or bruises, but other than you being a little pale now that you've rested a bit, you are the picture of health."

Joy seemed suspicious as she then continued, "For her to be in such bad shape while you don't have a single scratch to show for the story you just told, tells me that you either lied about the entire thing or are purposely leaving certain elements of the story out. It's a known fact that not all trainers show their pokemon enough respect, so which is it? Was it all a lie, are you using your pokemon as a shield in battles, or is there some kind of critical secret that forced you to keep certain details untold?" She waited impatiently as Evin wracked his brain for a solution, "It's not an issue that can be simply let go and swept under the carpet, so what is it?" Nurse Joy interrogated.

Rika looked to Evin as she knew that he wanted to keep it all a secret, but she could hardly stand listening to the nurse grill him for answers as she kept a suspicious eye on him along with his pokedex in hand. Then just as she was about to spill the beans for him and tell the nurse herself the phone began to ring. Still keeping an eye on Evin as she called a chancy in to make sure he couldn't leave, Nurse Joy answered the phone and was surprised to see the professor appear on the screen.

"Hello Nurse Joy, it's been a while." She said in a familiar friendly tone, "I just received a call from the police station that one of my trainers had been attacked near wellspring cave and had returned to Striaton City, is he by any chance there with you?" Joy glanced back at Evin before regarding the screen, "He is, but I'm in the middle of interrogating him since his story didn't quite add up to the injuries he and his pokemon sustained." Sounding worried, Professor Juniper asked, "Is he okay?"

Joy looked a little unsure for a moment, "Yes he is, but that is also the issue. His pokemon is cut up, burned and nearly died from having her chest spike broken near the critical point and while his cloths are burned in places as well there isn't a scratch, burn, or even a bruise on him. The situation coupled with the evidence looked and sounded too strange to believe that it was all coincidence, which led me to believe that he might be using her in unconventional pokemon battles and inventing wild stories to cover it."

Juniper had trouble not smiling as she then said, "Normally, that would have been a very well thought up suspicion for all the right reasons, but unfortunately or rather fortunately that isn't the case with him. He is part of my special case division and I can personally vouch that he doesn't mistreat his companions. On the flip side to all of this, I would like you to listen in on what I have to say to him so you can give him a more detailed checkup." Looking up from the screen with a still somewhat skeptical uncertainty, Joy asked for Evin to come join her at the phone.

The first thing said was, "Evin, you look terrible." Evin looked at the state of his attire before he said, "Yeah, well it's no surprise since I've been sparring with Rika for about three days and then survived an explosion." Juniper chuckled, "Well fashion statement aside, I'm glad you made it out okay, though I am a little worried about Rika's injuries. From the sound of things it's a miracle that you made it back at all if you were confronted by five members of Team Rocket all on your own." Rubbing a hand down his face Evin said sounding very worn out, "Ahh, don't remind me, I ended up overusing some newly acquired skills in all of that mess and it nearly cost Rika her life when I couldn't move."

Juniper's expression sobered a bit, "Hmm, still, it's quite impressive that you managed as well as you did; tell me about these new skills of yours." Evin glanced between the screen and Nurse Joy questioningly before Juniper said, "Cat's already out of the bag and I want her to know the extent of your powers so that she can get a good assessment of you and the progression you've made since your last check-in." Evin sighed as yet another person learned some of his secrets as he then held up his palm to form an aura sphere and presented it to the screen.

"Okay, nice." Came the professor's reply, "You seem to have mastered a way to focus your aura much like a lucario, but I'm guessing that isn't all you learned while training with Rika?" Though tired, Evin had a bit of a miffed look as he then replied, "Just short of three days isn't a whole lot of time to work with in terms of discovering and harnessing new powers; I had just scratched the surface of how the aura sphere worked when we got attacked, but yes, I did learn a couple other things as well.

Rika taught me how to sense the life-force and feelings of other living things with aura and also helped me find a way to rein in my wayward psychic powers so that I can somewhat control them now. I'm not sure how to move stuff with them yet even though I did use them to grab Rika once in our fight, but hey, three days of beating around the bushes trying to figure stuff out before getting attacked, I think I've done pretty good. The other skill that I've somewhat got the hang of is how to release the normal limitations of my muscles to move faster or hit harder, but the draw back is that it can leave me totally immobilized when over used."

Nurse Joy in this time listened with festination as she never quite grasped all the details, but was all the same intrigued before she finally asked, "So how is it that you got back here without a scratch?" Juniper and Evin both looked at her before Evin said, "Self-healing; it was the first power I acquired and either by focusing to very quickly heal my wounds or by just letting it heal me slowly it seems to return me back to perfect physical condition." Joy looked like she was going to ask how so Evin beat her to it and said, "Don't bother asking how, even the professor and I are not sure how it works."

"The story behind his powers is a rather long one," The Professor started, "but we don't have the time to tell you it right now as this attack also makes me worry about the other trainer of mine out in the field nearby. From what I've seen of her pokedex signal she hasn't even checked into the Nacrene center yet and with this new development I want her to either pair up with Evin again or brought back. It's simply too dangerous for a girl to be out on her own right now, even if she prefers the solitude of being with only her pokemon. The region has further destabilized and has been declared in a state of high emergency, I'd rather her be mad at me or Evin and safe than risk her safety with those animals roaming the countryside. I just hope that Evin thrashed those men bad enough to slow them down, but before all of that, I want to know his condition and I'm sure he's going to need to rest for the night."

Nurse Joy looked slightly crestfallen among other things, but knowing that she had a job that needed to be done posthaste she had Evin remove his shirt again and began her examination as if she were working on a pokemon. Humans weren't her specialty but she found his self healing to be quite spectacular after getting a blood sample and watching the small needle hole fade. Putting the sample into her analyzing equipment, she initiated a direct link to the Professor's lab and started the sequence. Machines buzzed and dinged as each set of results and differences to the Professor's earlier data came in and while this was all in progress Evin in the meantime was having trouble just staying awake as he began to sleepily drift in and out.

Rika worried over him as he caught bits of excitement from Joy and a few flat statements of intrigued discovery from Juniper, but as of that moment everything was becoming a blur. Seeing his exhaustion after getting the majority of new readings, Juniper finally spoke up to Joy and said, "I think it's time for him to go get some rest. It seems that the unrestrained use of his powers today has taken a toll and drained him. Please see to it that he and his pokemon make it to the room okay would you? And Evin," Evin's head bobbed up for a moment as he looked at the screen, "Be sure to take good care of her, lucario are very loyal and bond for life, meaning you will be hard pressed to ever find a more faithful companion." Evin nodded, but then collapsed back down on the examining table he had been laying on.

Nurse Joy cast an envious eye towards Evin as she then nodded to Juniper and then shortly after ended the call and turned off the machines. "Well you are off the hook I guess," as she gave a knowing glance at Evin, "But I want you to promise me that this wont happen to your lucario again as my earlier orders of no battles still stand." Rika picked Evin up off the table while he was still stuck in a sleepy daze and replied for him, ~As he has already said, it wasn't his fault and while I'm sure he will do everything in his power to see to my safety I will not sit by idly watching him risk his life for others or myself just because I might get injured. I accepted him as my master knowing full well all the risks and hardships that came with being beside him and I will continue risking my own safety for him until the day I die!~

Joy was shocked by Rika's outburst of heartfelt emotion in her declaration and dedication to her trainer, as it had been the first time such a thing had happened. Rika then began hobbling Evin out of the room, but when they reached the steps Nurse Joy joined them and helped her get him up the stairs. Walking down the hall was easy enough, but when they got him to the room Nurse Joy led them to Rika stated that she would take him from there.

Nodding her head as the door opened Nurse Joy then said, "Remind him in the morning to come by my desk to get his pokedex since I'll be checking him in for the night with it, and if you could, make sure he takes a shower before going to sleep." Rika happily nodded before she then huffed and lugged him into the room and slung him on the bed like a knapsack. Nurse Joy couldn't restrain a small laugh before she left to return to her desk, deciding that while Rika was indeed loyal to him that she was probably rougher on him than most bad trainers to their pokemon, as she imagined him being her living punching bag.

Back in the room, Rika let the others out of their balls before then working at peeling Evin out of his tattered sweaty garments. His shirt, shoes, and backpack had been easy enough to remove, but she had torn a small hole into a larger one on his shirt in the process. Evin nodded to them before returning them to their balls as well and then made sure his pack was in good condition for another trip.

Seeing the much too small tent for his growing party and his somewhat diminished food supplies, he decided that he would have to make at least last one extra stop before leaving the city. Grabbing an apple from the usually provided fruit blow, Evin made his way downstairs passed the crowd of other trainers trying to make it down to the dinning tables first. Seeing so many people at once reminded him of what school was like with the way many pushed and shoved to make it downstairs first.

From the looks of things, it looked like many had been picked up during the night by the police forces trying to reign people in away from danger as some trainers looked a little scared while others talked about how pissed they were about being brought here. Bypassing the tables, Evin got to the front desk just in time to see Joy come back from one of the store rooms with a few early breakfast meals for another set of trainers before she said, "Ah, you finally woke up; I was beginning to wonder. I'll have your pokedex ready for you in just a moment after I give these to the trainers I made them for."

With no other words needed, Nurse Joy hurried off to a table with three trainers sitting around it looking anxious. Moments later Joy was back behind her desk nearly running from area to area before returning with his pokedex in hand as she then said, "I took the liberty of installing some updates for you since it seemed there was a patch while you were out training. Everything is in order for you to leave the city as the authorities have been notified to let you pass to search for another trainer, and while that might keep some from bothering you not all will read the memo, so a special note has also been added to your pokedex.

The note will verify that you have the permission and authority to go beyond barriers and blockades, but keep in mind that many still keep it firmly within their minds that children along with teenagers, even when given authority, believe they should try to deter them from danger. It's a long road to the next city, so I hope you find your friend without problems. But if anything does happen just remember that there are rangers scouring the area that will help you when needed. Shooting a flare up in the air will most likely get the attention of at least a few, so help is never very far so long as you as willing enough to ask for it."

Evin nodded to Nurse Joy's information and thanked her for everything before he then quickly exited the building to head strait for the market. Inside the shop he haggled with the owner for a fair price on a trade-in for a bigger tent for his smaller one and after coming to an agreement used some of the money he had to restore his food supplies to tide him over for a few days before leaving to his next stop.

As he entered yet another set of doors of the place Nurse Joy had told him about, he was greeted by a guy covered in tattoos wearing a black motorcycle vest. His shop was decorated with tattoo designs, cool T-shirts and pictures of unique pokemon projects that he had done in the past. "What's up kid, see anything you like?" Evin looked around, but then released Rika from her ball as he said, "My lucario has had an unfortunate run in with Team Rocket and as you can see her chest spike was broken in the struggle. Nurse Joy recommended we come here to have it sanded down properly."

Looking serious for only a moment, the man examined her chest spike with an eyeglass before saying, "That's a wicked break, I don't usually work on damaged goods, but if the nurse be the one sendin ya then who am I to turn down a job such as this on such a lovely critter." Rika put both paws to her snout in flattered embarrassment over the man's praise. "Like with the pokemon center, I'll be needin yer pokedex to square the W.O.P.T." Evin cocked his head as he said, "The what?" The man huffed a small laugh, "Didn't ya ever go to school kid? It's the work on pokemon transaction. It's how the pokemon centers stay in business along with anyone else who does essentially needed work on pokemon or providing shelter for the trainers. It's like a separate bank account run by your professor for all your pokemon needs. Don't ask me how they keep the account full, but that's the basic gist of it."

Seeing his pokedex in a new light for the first time, Evin handed it over to the man who waved it over his register after punching in a few buttons and then pointed the knobby scanning glass at a receptacle on the register. The transaction went through without a problem and the man gave the pokedex back before saying, "I'm sure your professor already told you this, but make sure you don't loose it. A pokedex is your way of living day to day if you are running low on cash, thieves often target these devices in hopes of pilfering the entire account, so be careful with it."

Looking to Rika the man examined her chest and the surrounding area before saying, "That lower than usual notch below the fur line is going to diminish the quality of the final product, but I think we can make due by just giving that part a nice shine while trying to grind the rest of it in as close as possible." Getting out his tools and fitting goggles to Rika and Evin, the man then sat Rika in a chair before putting on a welder's mask and going to work.

Sparks from the grinner flew all around and Rika gripped the chair with enough intensity to make Evin worry; but within only a few minutes, the man switched to a less abrasive grinder head and began the process of fine polishing. Rika still gripped the chair she was in, but not quite as intensely as before since the vibrations weren't quite as painful. Soon the grinder finally came to a stop as the man switched to some picks and fine cloths and started doing the fine tuning work of erasing any leftover flaws in the area before finally standing to admire his work and said, "That came out better than I had hoped."

Standing from the chair Rika stepped in front of a full length mirror to see what had become of her spike. The edges had all been sanded and polished until they gleamed with the sine of smoothness and while the center came to a slight ovule mound very little was the lowest point of the break of her spike noticed. "In about a year the spike should be grown out enough to give it a better more even look, but things being as they are I think it looks quite fetching like this. what do ya say kid?"

Evin looked at it closely and felt along the edges while Rika held her paws to her face as she blushed, but then he said, "It's perfect." and thanked the man for such a wonderful job before returning Rika to her ball to leave town. "Word of caution kid, stay away from those Team Rocket bad boys, they're not messin around when it comes to stealing everything other people have and then taking advantage of the ones already down. They are ruthless and quite lethal at the moment, so your best bet would be to stay right here in town." Evin smirked and said, "It's a nice idea, but unfortunately it's not an option for me. Thank you for all that you've done for me and my lucario." Evin nodded his head in goodbye and left the shop.

Outside the air was filled with chatter of Team Rocket being spotted nearby while the press was running around documenting everyone's feelings on the matter and eating up any solid information they could get their hands on. Shaking off the feeling of foreboding wariness, Evin unfolded his bike and quickly road out of town. To keep from drawing unwanted attention he stayed at a normal speed as far as the outskirts of town before then beginning to apply extra needed power into his peddling to eventually get up to the speed of a motorcycle.
