Chapter Seventeen.

Setting sail for new Horizons

And Lost Hope

After being forced to keep performing his duties to three girls as their lover all night long, when Evin woke up on this new day he was sore and tired. Last night Zora had spent a long while just watching the other two girls have their fun with Evin and enjoyed herself all the while, but eventually she had gotten tired of being on the sideline and had finally in the middle of the night joined in on the action. Getting up off the bed, Evin crept to the bathroom to relive himself without disturbing the others. Once he was done, he went over to the sink with the mirror on the wall, and just stayed there looking down at the drain for a minute in silent thought. He was thinking about his past once again as flashes of his memories played in the back of his mind.

He analyzed his current thoughts and all the decisions he has had to make lately, then he compared them to how he used to go about things before all of this. He barely recognized his own thoughts as his own anymore; none of his current behaviors were even close to how he used to be.

He looked up at his reflection in the mirror and studied his features and thought to himself, "I can barely recognize myself anymore. Is this thing that brought me here changing me to be like this on purpose?" He sighed to himself "I still wonder why I'm even here. Nothing about all of this ever makes any sense... Sure being here with Dawn, Rika and the others is great and has been the most exciting adventure I could ever hope for. But why for the love of god was I tossed into the middle of a world war?"

Evin sighed again, his hair now being completely shiny platinum colored was like a beacon of his misery, the one part of him that made him really standout in a crowd. He contemplated just getting a hat to hide it, but he had never liked wearing them because they always irritated his ears to the point that they would get inflamed and hurt. He continued to study himself for a few minutes as he found that the rest of his body also didn't look like his own.

He was steadily becoming stronger, more fit and lean, he had more muscle now than he had ever hoped for at his age. He did a few stretches and while he was satisfied that he could move most everything without feeling pain, he couldn't shake feeling like this wasn't the way his body should look. His eyes were too deep and predator-like with the way they gleamed back at him in the reflection. It was as if there was a more feral side of him lurking deep within.

Feeling slightly weirded out that he felt that way about himself, he cast his thoughts aside and washed his face before returning to the bedroom. Upon entering their sleeping quarters, two of the sleepy eyed trio of girls looked up at Evin with waking lust. He barely had time to even consider what they wanted before the two got up and pulled him back onto the bed. In their sweet anticipation of getting him to take care of their morning needs, they had for the most part forgotten to even consider getting ready to leave this morning.

Evin in his current mind frame wasn't exactly eager to jump into this sort of thing at the moment, but only mildly resisted Dawn and Rika's insistence. Somewhat to his relief though Zora ended up forgoing this catastrophic scene and just went over to a chair to relax and sleep for a while longer.

Evin groaned as both Dawn and Rika worked to get him warmed up for their pleasurable desires. But Dawn noticed that his heart didn't seem to be into the moment and Rika also sensed what was on his mind. So Dawn asked him what was wrong even as Rika slowed her full-bodied rubbing down to listen as she got comfy.

Sure it might have scared me these few times that you've lost control, but that was only because I was afraid of loosing you; the part of you that really counts."

Dawn snuggled into Evin's left side and kissed his cheek again as she hugged him and Rika did the same to his right to duplicate the meaning. They stayed like that for most of the early morning, but when it started getting later Evin managed to get them moving to the shower. The three of them washed each other as if this were a common thing for them now, though in Evin's mind he could still sense that both still desired to have sex with him and were fighting really hard to suppress the urge to jump him.

Once their shower was over they all felt refreshed and ready to go, the girls in more ways than one. They all packed their stuff and all the pokemon except Rika were put in their balls. The day was looking like it was going to be wonderful; that was at least until they got about half way down the stairs to the lobby when Evin's pokenave began to ring with a call again.

When he pushed the answer button he saw professor Juniper on screen as she had a mild mixture of relief and frustration on her face. Evin asked what the problem was and the Professor began talking, "Well I have good news and bad news. Good news is, both Teams Rocket and Plasma have ceased activity in Unova. Bad news is, they have only moved their main operations to other regions.

Your little tornado stunt seems to have frightened both teams into leaving this particular area for the time being, but their real reasons for leaving are unknown. While I am glad that they have left this region, I am loath to say Hoenn could now use your help. Both Teams have been spotted stalking legendaries in all the regions, but up until now no one knew why. Our Intel has just learned that Team Rocket, though they have suffered a massive defeat, has already captured a few of the legendaries around the world for these unknown reasons and have been performing experiments on them.

We need you to take the fight to them on the frontlines so to speak. Your special abilities are required to storm one of their fortresses where they are holding Zapdose, Suicune, Kyogre, and from what we've heard they've captured a mew as well. I shiver at the thought of what the Team Rocket scientists may be doing to them. So I am asking you now, we need your help over there before it's too late, Will you help us with this situation?"

Evin didn't see much choice in all of this, he was chosen to handle this stuff by some kind of god that didn't care if he had an opinion or not. He nodded his agreement that he would help and Juniper continued, "I've already uploaded your real ID information wirelessly into your pokedex, this should give you clearance to the restricted information and place most all other trainers outside the elite four aren't allowed. This will also reduce any restriction any authorities might try to place on you.

There is a ranger boat scheduled to leave the dock of that city at noon, be sure to catch it. When you reach Hoenn make sure to show the authorities your pokedex, and they should get you in touch with the strike force of rangers that have been trying to control the situation. Mind you though, somehow they have corrupted the Kyogre to work for them and have been making it wreak havoc on the ranger's forces out there. Be careful, and don't take chances; Juniper out, and may the luck of the chosen brighten your path."

After the wrist phone on his arm went blank, the group continued into the lobby, where they gave the news to the nurse, and had breakfast in silence. Just then, as they were almost done with their meals, Clay burst into the pokemon center holding a girl trainer in his arms and bellowed, "Nurse Joy! We have another one who needs treatment! Says Team Rocket stole her pokemon as a group of them headed for the ocean!"

It was only after Joy rushed over with a gurney and took the girl to the back did Clay acknowledge Evin's existence. When he did though, he did a good job at hiding his amazement at seeing him. He nodded towards Evin and beckoned him to follow him outside. Evin did as he wanted and left Rika, Dawn and the others to finish the last remnants of their meals.

Outside Clay had a talk with him about what was going on, and was surprised to hear the news from Evin of what was going on, as the Teams seemed to be leaving Unova. The fact that Evin was going to be chasing after Team Rocket made the old gym leader look weary, and he said, "Yur gona have the be pretty smart and fast if yur gona trophy their heads on a wall. Them gitten their mitts on them legendaries is no laughin matter. Be sure you hogtie them up good before you leave any behind.

But before you go venturen over the big ocean, didn't you come to this city in the first place to get my badge?" Evin almost laughed a few times from his Texas-like accent and nodded a yes when Clay asked. Clay gave a hearty laugh and said, "Well lets get to it boy! Go git yur friends and we'll head over to my gym for a battle. Gotta see if yur ready for em over ere in Hoenn. Go on git movin, not much time before yur boat needs to leave."

With a few more restrained laughs and smiles, Evin got the others and they all headed over to the gym. He knew they didn't have time for a long drawn out battle, so Evin intended to use Rika and if she couldn't handle them all, Reshiram would be the one to finish up.

The battle was set for three on three, but Evin knew he'd only need one or two, so first up was Rika who gave Dawn her egg for safe keeping. Clay called out Krokorok and Rika about yawned from seeing such a disadvantaged opponent. Even Clay showed some hint that he didn't like his chances either.

Aside from water pokemon, a lucario was basically the bane of all of his pokemon's existence. Seeing his disadvantage, Clay called the only effective move his pokemon knew, which was earthquake, and then called for it to follow up with crunch. But just as the earthquake started, an aura sphere knocked the crocodile silly upside the head and put it out of commission. Though Rika still had to ride out the quake that slightly off balanced her a few times.

Her fur was roughed up a bit, but she was still ready to go as Clay called out his Excadrill. He ordered it to use dig and Rika prepared herself to sense underground so she could make short work of it when it surfaced. But, after the mole was under ground Clay smiled and called out earthquake again.

The attack was so unexpected that Rika didn't have time to jump away as a jagged piece of the ground came up and knocked her for a loop. Then as Rika fell on her back, Excadrill burst from the ground and uppercut her into the air. She flew through the air for a few seconds and Evin had a look of surprised shock and concern on his face as she landed. Then to Evin's unhappy realization that she was unconscious, she didn't get up when he called her.

Evin went to her and picked her up and took her back to where he had been standing to set her down. As Evin put her down, he looked up at Clay with a new weariness he hadn't had before with a little anger and said, "That was a dirty trick." And the gym leader gave a hearty laugh before saying, "Ah but yur enemies wont be playin nice either, best get used to it now while its all fun and games."

Evin then said, "I agree." And with that he threw Reshiram's ball into the field for battle. She roared with glee at finally having a chance for a real battle, and ignited her tail flame as Excadrill went under ground again. He called for Reshiram to take flight and just circle above until Excadrill resurfaced, but Clay didn't let his pokemon fall for that and had it stay underground where it was nice and cozy.

Evin could see where that was going, so he called up to Reshiram, "Use fusion flare, and make it big; I want that mole to hate being under ground." Reshiram's flame on her tail blazed brightly as she powered up; the few earthquakes from before had already loosened the ground, so when the attack hit and exploded, Excadrill was caught in the blast and got burned good.

Being burned, Excadrill was not going to last much longer in this fight, so Clay ordered it to use Rockslide and Evin ordered Reshiram to use psychic to block the rocks. It worked like a charm and Reshiram used the rocks against Excadrill by throwing them at it as if it had just given her ammunition.

After being nailed with several boulders, Excadrill was down and done. From there Clay summoned his last pokemon Palpitoad, which was a water and ground type. Evin knew Reshiram wasn't much good at physical attacks so he ordered her to use psychic. Clay ordered Palpitoad to use muddy water attack. While the water attack was effective against Reshiram, Palpiroad just simply couldn't stand up to the might of the psychic attack from the legendary and feinted soon after it was slammed around like a basketball.

The battle was over, and Clay tipped his hat to Evin before presenting him the quake badge and saying, "You have a long journey ahead boy, and I hope that you and yur friends have the best of luck huntin down those rustlers. Ya have a nice team, be sure to take good care of em and yur self, and don't let those varments get any mor of em honest trainer's pokemon. If those rustlers keep this up, there wont be any new trainers for me to test before I have ta retire... You take care now, ya hear."

Evin nodded to the gym leader, returned Reshiram to her ball, and then put away the badge before taking Rika into his arms. Normally she would have been a little heavy for him, but with a small bit of aid from his powers, she was light as a feather. Leaving the gym, they went to the pokemon center first to see to Rika's injuries as Evin carried her in his arms.

Once she was able to walk again, they had to run to the docks to catch the boat and made it with just a little time to spare. They talked to the ranger in charge and were placed in a cabin together for the weeklong trip they were going to be on, and eventually got settled in. Reshiram was too big to be out of her ball except for the open deck, and Zora had opted to stay in her ball because being on a ship just wasn't agreeing with her stomach at all.

Shadow and Cilia took to lounging around the cabin together, while Servine and Herdier played snake and mouse as they playfully roughhoused. The ship wasn't any kind of luxury cruse ship, so there was no pool for Piplup and Oshawott to play in, so they mainly stayed in the cabin and played with the others or in their pokeballs.

Victini took to following Evin, Rika, and Dawn around while they explored the ship, and Sewaddle just lounged around sleeping. Evin's group eventually went to the mess hall to get lunch and did their best to enjoy themselves as they enjoyed the rest of the day.

The next day however, Evin and Rika became restless with just resting inside the room they had all been given and while wandering around the ship with Dawn and Victini with them, they challenged one of the other trainers. Unlike themselves, a few other trainers had apparently been let onboard so they could return to their homes in Hoenn. After the borders had been closed, this was the only way for good honest people to go between regions.

It was an exciting first match of the day between Rika and the other trainer's Sceptile, but it ended with Rika as the victor, as she had used a well timed psychic attack to end the match. Dawn had borrowed Victini for a match against the next trainer they met since her pokemon were all still at the cabin.

The fight between Victini and the trainer's Magneton got under way with a burst of fire. This fight though was a lot more one sided in Victini's favor, as she easily burned the steel type with flame burst. The battle ended with only one hit and the other trainer left the scene grumbling about how anti climatic the battle had been as he walked away very displeased.

Seeing that there were so many other trainers on board going home, Dawn and Evin decided it would probably be a good idea to spend this time trying to train their weaker pokemon so they could defend themselves in the upcoming trials ahead. So that night at suppertime they brought both their teams to the dinning hall, though aside from Rika and Piplup the others were held in their balls.

That night was one of the best Evin had ever had for honest pokemon battles in a long while. In the one on one matches, Evin often had to think on his toes sense some of these matches weren't always in his favor. But he still won more matches than he lost and all of his pokemon had a good time while doing so.

There were a few doctors and nurses onboard with their Blisseys and an Audino, that were headed to Hoenn for the anticipated relief effort; so these battles also served as good practice for them as well. First the trainers would battle, then the medical team would help their pokemon recover afterwards, so battling for everyone onboard was fun and somewhat relaxed.

The next day was also spent in the same fashion as many trainers and a few rangers prepared their pokemon for a much harsher style of pokemon battle. Many knew it was imperative to strengthen their teams like this, so that they did not loose when it might really matter. None of them really knew what the expect when it came to anticipating what would be happening in Hoenn, so all they could do was get better through a lot of practice.

The day after they had exhausted themselves by challenging other trainers to seemingly endless battles, Evin and company just simply stayed in their room and tried to just relax for the day. Dawn and Rika saw this as an excellent time to get Evin to indulge them with some intimate social activities. Using a gardevoir, one of the rangers had it lift a trainer from the water, and a different ranger had his floatzel rescue another. Warning sirens blared as one of the washed over trainers made it back to the boat just in time for two rangers help him back on deck. But before the rangers could even look back up from the two they got back onboard, a massive wave slammed on deck and knocked one of the already saved trainers and four rangers over the side and into the water along with the gardevoir.

After having just barely hung on to a pole long enough for the water to wash off, Evin had seen enough. Summoning up his maximum psychic power, Evin worked to drag the gardevoir and people that were in the water back to the ship. Once the people were close enough, he lifted them from the water and deposited them on deck. The first people back on deck landed kind of roughly with the rocking of the ship, but once on deck, they latched onto the closest solid thing they could find.

When a few rangers landed, they had confused bewildered looks on their faces before they snapped back to what they were supposed to do, which was at the moment getting the other people on deck secure. During this rescue though, when Evin's mind first touched the gardevoir's, it fought the connection with terror as its own psychic powers blocked his.

It believed something powerful was trying to drag it further out to sea, so it fought him with everything it had as they engaged in mental struggled as the tides inevitably carried the pokemon further from the ship. The further from him it got, the more tenuous his connection with the pokemon became. But soon the pokemon had finally passed his maximum range, and Evin knew from then on what fate awaited it.

He felt horrible for being the one to have to report this to its trainer, as he now also knew which of the rangers it had belonged to, sense the ranger it belonged to was already looking for his pokemon. Evin felt spent as his arms and legs shook lethargically from his lack of energy as the still swaying deck moved up and down. As he made his way over to the ranger looking for with the grim news, the other rangers worked to secure the other passengers.

The young ranger was in his twenties, but with fear and worry contorting his face he looked more like he was in his thirties. No sooner than Evin rounded the corner of the stern had the ranger caught sight of him. The ranger's eyes went sullen and Evin could already feel the ranger's mind beginning to crumble with grief as he walked up to him. But before Evin had the chance to speak first, the ranger said flatly with sorrow coloring his voice, "She's gone, isn't she?"

The other rangers all stopped what they were doing to listen to what had happened. Evin wasn't sure how to tell him this, so he decided to narrate it from the beginning in what way he could, "I saw how brave you all were, I saw everyone all desperately trying to save people. When I saw the wave wash you and the other people you had already saved back overboard, I put all my power into bringing everyone back. But when I touched your pokemon's mind, she panicked. She fought me with all her will, thinking I was dragging her out to sea in the riptide that had her. She fought me until she was far out of my reach... I am sorry."

The ranger just couldn't bear it any longer as he finally broke down and began to cry, the others came over to him and tried to comfort him. One of the other rangers then came over to Evin and bowed as he thanked him for saving everyone. Though right now, Evin did not feel like a hero. The ranger who had just lost his best friend in the world couldn't and didn't blame Evin for what happened, but his grief was powerful enough to make Evin feel like he had let everyone down.

Just after that, when everyone had just about cleared the deck, the unthinkable happened. Another rogue wave slammed across the deck right where Evin had been standing and left nothing in its wake. The rangers once again called for all hands on deck for rescue, but as they searched the water, all they could see were the rough waves that flanked the storm.

Then from somewhere inside the ship everyone heard a mournful cry and following that cry the rangers turned just in time to see Rika burst from inside the passenger's quarters as she began to run for the edge of the ship. The rangers stopped her before she could try to follow her trainer to his watery grave and she struggled to get free. Then right when she had thrown most of her restrainers off, one of the rangers tranquilized her from behind with a dart gun, and as she went down, the last thing she saw were the choppy blue and green waves of rough ocean waters.
