To Love A Hybrid: Finals Drama
#2 of To Love a Hybrid
Wow, never thought I would do a sequel for this. But it got so much great comments and suggestions, that I had to honor the readers. This is all thanks to you. I also want to give a big thanks to Sangheilinerd for proof reading this for me, and the use of his OC Nick. This is probably the longest story I've done standing at 64 pages long and almost breaking the 20k mark in words. God my fingers hurt. I hope you enjoy it as much as me and Sangheilinerd did in going over it.

Gail let out a soft whine as he stirred from his slumber. His rear was a little sore and his fur was matted with dry cum. He sat up with a groan, feeling the tenderness from behind. Flashbacks of last night ran through his head. He just had probably the greatest experience in the world with the one person who treated him like an equal. His sheath stirred as he remembered every thrust, tender caress, and kiss Ryudo gave him.
"I couldn't be any luckier than I am now."
Gail smiled but his nose crinkled at the smell coming off of him. His fur reeked of sweat and sex.
"Better wash off before heading down."
Heading to the bathroom, he turned on the shower, letting the steam fog up the mirror before washing himself completely. Drying his fur, he brushed himself down and put on his house clothes before heading downstairs. Shelly was on the couch watching TV and sewing. Her ears perked up and lifted her head to see Gail walk in. She gave a smile as Gail hugged her.
"Morning mom," Gail said with a happy murr and a lick to her cheek.
"Morning son. Did you sleep well?"
Gail blushed before nodding his head and sitting next to her.
"I still can't believe we're here," Shelly said, closing her eyes. "Just think, last week we were slaving away on a farm. Now, we're in a home with a caring human."
She gave a sniff before folding her ears.
"If only your father could be here with us. Then it would truly be home."
"I know mom," Gail said softly, holding her paw which she squeezed back.
She composed herself before looking at Gail and smiling.
"You're so grown up now. I'm proud of you."
She tickled his ear making him giggle.
"Where's Ryudo," Gail asked, looking around.
"He went to Blake's house to study."
"Okay. I'm going to the backyard to enjoy the day," Gail said getting up.
"Don't forget you collar. We don't want to give Ryudo any trouble," Shelly replied, going to back to her sewing.
Putting on his collar, he headed out the back door into the backyard. The sun was shining bright in the clear blue sky as he took a deep breath with a content sigh. He walked over to the swing and took a seat, swinging back and forth slowly with the cool breeze.
"Hey there Gail."
His ears perked up and looked over to see Kurt leaning on the fence.
"Hey Kurt!" Gail said happily, going over to greet him.
"How goes everything?" Kurt asked with a smile.
"Great! I couldn't be happier here."
"Glad to hear it. How's your mom doing?"
"She's doing good."
Kurt was about to ask another question when his name was called.
"Hey Kurt, are you ready to go?" the lady called, walking out the front door before closing and locking it.
"Yes mistress. Tell your mom I said hi."
"Okay," Gail said, giving a giggle as Kurt ruffled his head.
He watched them get into the jeep and drive off. Once they were out of sight, he went back to the swing and sat down as his mind started thinking about his relationship with Ryudo.
/////////
Ryudo let out a sigh as he sat back in the recliner.
"Oh my god, these finals suck."
"No shit," Blake replied rubbing his eyes. "I've been studying so much I'm starting to see these words come after me in a nightmare."
"But you have to pass. Cause if you don't, who will take care of me when I'm sick?" Caroline whined.
Blake chuckled before scratching under her chin making her whine happily and wag her tail.
"Don't worry sweetheart. I'll make damn sure I pass these finals."
She gave a happy yip before kissing him which he gladly returned.
"Could you bring us something to drink cutie?" Blake asked.
"Sure thing honey," Caroline replied, giving his nose a lick before heading into the kitchen.
Blake watched her leave, his eyes fixed on her happily wagging tail before chuckling.
"God, what would I do without her?" Blake sighed dreamily.
"Still be jacking off with your left hand," Ryudo replied.
He let out a laugh as Blake tossed a pillow at him. He tossed it back before sitting back in the recliner.
"How everything's with Gail?" Blake asked, putting the pillow back on the couch.
Ryudo closed his eyes, remembering everything that happened last night.
"He asked what it was liked to be loved."
"Really!? What did you say?" Blake asked, getting on the couch.
"I didn't say anything. I showed him."
Blake's eyes went wide as Caroline came back with three glasses of lemonade with ice cubes in them.
"You slept with Gail?" Blake asked.
"Yeah," Ryudo said, taking a drink. "At the time, it seemed right."
"Don't tell me you're having doubts?" Blake said.
"No, I'm not," Ryudo replied, looking at him with a little anger. "Its just......last night reminded me of that night with Justin."
Caroline smiled before getting up and sitting next to Ryudo. She grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze.
"Hun, I know Justin meant a lot to you. But you have Gail now. And he needs you more than you know."
Ryudo closed his eyes. Caroline was right in a way. Gail was still young compared to Justin. Justin was twenty one, the same age as him when they made love that night. To hurt Gail now would make him no better than those assholes on the farm. Gail and Shelly needed him and his support after what they'd been through. He laughed before looking at Blake.
"She's been watching too many talk shows."
"It's what she loves. I can't take them away. Trust me, she gives me pep talks all the time."
"That's because you need them. You're still a pup compared to Ryudo."
"That's mean," Blake pouted.
Ryudo chuckled before grabbing his notes and textbook.
"Let's get this studying over with. The finals are next week and we still have other licenses to get."
Blake let out a sigh before nodding his head.
"I'll be so happy when this shit is over."
//////////
Gail sat at his computer desk, reading a comic book and chuckling away. He caught on quickly learning to read and write thanks to the hours Ryudo spent with him and the learning programs on the computer. He asked his mom if she wanted to learn, but she smiled and shook her head no, saying he was better learning it then her. He let out another laugh before turning another page. Looking at the clock, it read ten thirty and Ryudo still wasn't home. His ears perked up hearing that familiar engine pull up and stop.
"He's home," Gail said happily.
He placed the book on the bed and hurried downstairs to see Ryudo placing his backpack on the floor. He looked tired as his eyes were heavy.
"Are you okay Ryudo?" Gail asked, ears folded a little.
"I'm fine," Ryudo said with a tired smile, trying to ignore the pounding headache. "But some aspirin and a hot bath would be good."
"I'll draw your bath for you," Gail said, hurrying upstairs.
Ryudo watched him before he headed into the kitchen. He passed by the living room where Shelly was sewing. She looked up and gave a smile seeing Ryudo.
"Welcome home Ryudo," she said, a happy wag to her tail.
"Hey Shelly. Did you guys get something to eat? I'm sorry I was gone for so long."
"Don't worry about it. Gail made us some of that soup."
"I see. Well that's good then," Ryudo said with a smile before giving a soft groan as his head throbbed.
"Are you okay?" Shelly asked with concern, head tilted to the side a little.
"Just a stubborn headache."
"Your bath's ready Ryudo," Gail called from upstairs.
"Be right there, Stripy."
Shelly chuckled at the name before going back to sewing. Ryudo walked into the kitchen and pull opened a drawer under sink. He found what he was looking for which was a bottle of aspirin. Popping the top, he swallowed two pills with some water before heading upstairs to the bathroom where Gail was waiting for him.
"Want me to wash your back?" Gail asked.
"Sure, why not," Ryudo said with a smile.
They both took off their clothes and got into the tub which was rather spacious. Ryudo let out a sigh as he took a sniff of the vanilla bath salts, his favorite, that Gail added. He felt Gail's paws on his back washing him down.
"How's Blake and Caroline doing?" Gail asked softly, dipping the cloth into the water.
"Doing just fine."
"That's good. I really like Blake, he's funny."
Silence was golden for a few moments before Gail spoke again.
"Are you sure you're okay Ryudo?"
Ryudo let out a sigh before turning his head to look at Gail. He could see Gail's soft golden eyes looking at him with worry.
"These finals are just taking a toll on me, that's all Stripy."
"I wish I could help you somehow," Gail said with a soft whine.
Ryudo chuckled before turning around and pinning Gail against the back of the tub and kissing him. Gail let out a murr of pleasure, wrapping his arms around Ryudo's neck as their tongues fought against each other. Ryudo broke off first and tickled his ear making him giggle.
"You've done more than enough for me already. Don't worry about it."
"But it hurts me to see you so tired everyday," Gail whined.
"Its just one more week, Stripy. Then I'll be officially done and graduated."
Gail smiled before pulling Ryudo close and locking lips. He let out a deep moan feeling his sheath get stroked softly causing the tip to poke out. Ryudo broke off again and chuckled seeing the confused, lustful gaze Gail was giving him.
"As much as I want and need this," Ryudo said, making a point to squeeze Gail's sheath making him yip. "I need to get some sleep for school."
Gail let out a frustrated whine but nodded his head. Finishing their bath, they dried each other off before heading to Ryudo's bedroom. Gail got under the covers, watching Ryudo pick out his clothes for tomorrow. Once that was done, he joined Gail in bed. Gail held him close, his head on his chest as he listened to Ryudo's heartbeat. Ryudo wrapped an arm around him and kissed his forehead. It didn't take long for either of them to fall asleep.
/////////
"I'm proud of some of you for all the hard work you've done in my class. I know I've been an asshole and I thank you for putting up with me," Ryudo's teacher, Mr. Elliot, said standing in front of the class next to his desk. "Others could do with some more studying, but I'll look past that cause you'll still graduate by the skin of your teeth. My finals are really going to make you hate me, but if you did your studying, then you should pass with no problem."
He walked around and sat on the edge of the desk.
"Since my finals are next week and it's Wednesday, you guys are free to go and don't have to come to my class tomorrow or Friday."
The class cheered at that before gathering their books and heading out the door with idle chatter and laughter. Elliot watched them leave and did a double take seeing Ryudo still sitting there writing notes.
"Not leaving Mr. Peterson?"
"I have a free period until lunch so I'm going over a few things," Ryudo replied, not taking his eyes off the book he was going through.
"You're dedicated, I'll give you that."
Closing the door, Elliot walked over and took a seat next to Ryudo.
"Can I ask you a personal question, strictly between you, me, and these walls?"
Ryudo stopped his writing and looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"What is it?"
"Were the rumors about you and that coyote hybrid a few years ago true?"
Ryudo looked at Elliot, trying to judge his facial expression which stayed very neutral. Laying his pen on his notebook, he sat back in his seat and sighed.
"Why do you want to know?"
"Because out of all the students I taught this school year, only you, Blake, and one other student seem to take hybrid diseases and body structure seriously."
"Maybe I just want to help those less fortunate. Is there anything wrong with that?"
"There's nothing wrong with it," Elliot said, holding his hands up defensively. "The way I see it, if I did own a hybrid, you would be my first choice for a doctor."
Ryudo looked at Elliot. His mind was still trying to see if he was just sucking up to him to make him reveal his secret, or he was being honest. He closed his eyes and sighed.
"Yeah," Ryudo said after a dead silence. "The rumors were true."
"Did you love him?"
"Yeah, I did. He was very special to me."
Elliot chuckled before reaching into his back pocket and pulling out his wallet. He pulled a picture out and handed it to Ryudo. Ryudo looked at it before his eyes went wide. On the picture was Elliot, a smile on his face. But what was shocking to him, was he had his arm around a brown wolf hybrid who also had a smile on its muzzle.
"That's Sasha, my sweetheart and one true love."
"How......"
"I found her without a collar being beaten by two men in an alley. Apparently, she was stripped of ownership by one of them and being 'disciplined'. I stepped in and swiftly took care of them both and sent them running. She watched the whole thing with wide eyes and amazement. When I came close to her she flinched thinking I was going to hit her."
Elliot took back the picture and chuckled.
"I reached over slowly and wiped the little bit of blood from her muzzle making her shiver and asked if she was okay. She asked why I was doing this for her, saying she wasn't worth the time. All I said, was that she deserved better than those jerks and offered my hand to help her up. It took awhile and lots of encouragement, but she finally opened up to me. That was two years ago and we've been together ever since."
Elliot looked at Ryudo who was still in shock a little.
"Now you have nothing to be ashamed of."
"I never knew," Ryudo said, still seeing that picture in his mind.
"Well now you do. So I'm keeping my hopes up in you becoming a hybrid doctor."
Ryudo smiled at that as Elliot got up.
"Does that mean I don't have to take the finals?" Ryudo asked.
"I said I'm keeping my hopes up. It doesn't mean I'll go easy on you."
"Damn," Ryudo laughed. "I was hoping for an easy out."
"Not a chance bucko," Elliot grinned before joining him in a laugh.

Laughter filled the backyard as Gail, Shelly, and Caroline enjoyed themselves in the warm spring weather.
"Wow, Blake was a silly person," Gail giggled.
"Oh, he was adorable," Caroline smiled. "That's why I love him."
Shelly smiled before taking drink of lemonade.
"So how's everything with you and Ryudo, Gail?" Caroline asked.
Gail blushed as Shelly looked at him.
"It's going good. I just wish I could help him with his finals. It hurts me to see him so tired everyday."
"How about you Shelly? Have you found someone to fill that hole in your heart?"
Shelly smiled before closing her eyes.
"I don't know if I'm ready yet. I still love Matt with all my heart."
"I know you do Shelly. But even he would be hurt to see you not happy," Caroline added, taking her paw and giving it a squeeze.
Shelly squeezed back and looked at her.
"Maybe the right person will come along one day. Until then, I'm happy with my situation."
"That's good enough for me," Caroline replied with a smile.
"How did you meet Blake anyway?" Gail questioned.
"During his freshman year of high school. Maybe I'll tell you one day."
They all took a drink, listening to the chirping of the birds as they perched up in trees before flying into the slightly cloudy sky. Caroline thought of an idea as she smiled.
"You want to go for a walk with me one day Shelly?"
Shelly's ears perked up and looked at Caroline.
"A walk?" she asked curiously.
"Yeah. Think of it like a nature walk. There's a nice trail behind Blake's house that leads to a beautiful meadow overlooking a mountain."
Shelly thought about it, ears twitching a little.
"Won't we get in trouble?"
"Of course not. Humans only bother you if you don't have a collar on. Other than that, they completely avoid you."
"I think its a good idea Mom," Gail said. "It might help you relax some more."
Shelly closed her eyes for a few seconds before looking at Caroline.
"Okay, sounds like a great idea."
"Great," Caroline said with a happy bark and hugging her. "I promise you, you'll love it."
They spoke with more idle chatter before their ears perked, hearing a car pull up into the driveway. Ryudo and Blake appeared a few minutes later looking tired.
"Ahh, is my pup okay?" Caroline cooed softly, giving Blake a hug.
"I'm tired and my head hurts," Blake replied.
"Well, I know what to do to 'relieve' some of that pain," she murred softly in his ear.
"I bet you do," Blake said, giving her tail a squeeze making her yip. "I'll see you tomorrow, dude."
They watched him leave as Ryudo took a seat on the grass next to the swing which was occupied by Shelly.
"Would you like something to drink Ryudo?" Gail asked. "Caroline made some delicious lemonade."
"Sure, I could use a glass."
Gail nodded before heading into the house. Shelly watched him leave before turning her attention to Ryudo.
"Thank you for looking after Gail, Ryudo."
Ryudo looked at her curiously before smiling.
"It's no problem Shelly. Gail's a great kid."
"I know he is. Just do me a favor though."
"Sure. What is it?"
"Next time you mate, try to keep it down."
Ryudo looked at her with wide eyes, a heavy blush on his face.
"Don't look so surprised. These ears may be old, but they can hear a lot, even from in the basement," Shelly giggled.
"I hope you're not mad?"
"Of course not Ryudo," Shelly said shaking her head. "I'm just happy Gail found somebody he could call a friend and maybe a potential mate."
"Thank you. I hope you can find somebody yourself. You are a beautiful hyena Shelly."
Shelly blushed making Ryudo chuckle. Gail came back with a tall glass of lemonade and handed it to Ryudo who gave him a thanks. Gail laid his head on Shelly's lap, murring happily as she stroked his head softly.
"Oh yeah, Caroline asked me if I could go for a walk with her one day. Is that okay with you?" Shelly asked.
"You don't need to ask permission Shelly. Go have fun. I've walked that trail before and it really helps to relax your mind."
"Thank you, Ryudo."
"Stop being so modest," Ryudo said with a chuckle getting up. "I need to head to my parents house. I should be back before dark."
Shelly watched him leave before looking down at Gail. He was on cloud nine getting his head fur smoothed down.
"So," Shelly said softly, making Gail looking up at her. "How was your first time?"
Gail let out a gasp and stood up looking at her.
"How....?"
"You make a lot of noise son. It was kind of obvious," Shelly grinned, showing her teeth.
Gail blushed heavily, his ears folded tightly against his head.
"He wasn't too rough with you I hope?"
"No," Gail said quickly, shaking his head. "He was......very.....affectionate with me."
"Did he make the first move or did you?"
"I did. His mom told me he fell in love with their first hybrid. I wanted to know what it was like to be loved by somebody and.......well......he showed me."
Shelly chuckled as Gail sat back down on the grass, leaning his head on her lap.
"As long as you're happy, then I'm glad for you both."
"Thanks, Mom," Gail said, giving her cheek a lick as they enjoyed the rest of the day together outside.
////////
Ryudo pulled up into his parents driveway. Both of their cars were parked along with somebody else. Putting it in park, he shut the car off and walked up the cobblestone path before coming to the front door. He gave a knock before using his key and entering. He heard talking in the living room and heading in that direction.
"Here he comes now," he heard his father say.
Ryudo walked into the living room to see his parents sitting on the couch and a well dressed middle aged man on the recliner.
"Hey mom, dad," Ryudo said with a wave.
"Hello, son," his mom said with a smile.
"Take a seat, son," his dad said motioning to the love seat.
Ryudo nodded before taking off his shoes and having a seat.
"Son, let me introduce Anthony Edwards, head superintendent of the Express Scripts Hybrid Hospital," Peter said with a smile.
"It's a pleasure to meet you," Ryudo said, getting up to shake his hand.
"I should be saying that," Anthony said with a smile. "I've heard the stories about you and your 'affection' towards the hybrids."
Ryudo's eyes narrowed a little at the statement but sat back down. Anthony gave a smile before crossing his leg.
"Anyway," Peter said, getting Ryudo's attention. "Anthony is going to be stepping down as head superintendent."
"Why?" Ryudo asked.
"I've decided to go on an early retirement," Anthony said with a chuckle.
"What does that have to do with me?"
"Simple," Ryudo's mom said. "You're going to be taking over when you graduate."
Ryudo's eyes went wide.
"But.....but...I can't run a hospital. I want to be a doctor and help hybrids, not give orders to people."
"You'll still be helping hybrids," Anthony spoke. "You'll just have a title under your name. The only thing that'll be different, is that nothing will be done without your consent and approval. Meaning that any kind of operation or treatment will have to go through you."
Ryudo looked at Anthony who just smiled.
"I said you'd be helping lots of hybrids when you graduate," his mom chuckled.
"But why me though?"
"Simple," Anthony said reaching into his jacket pocket and pulling out a PDA.
He tapped the screen a few times as it displayed a list of names with faces next to them along with a number before handing it to Ryudo.
"Out of all the candidates scouted, you scored at the top of the list. And besides, most of them don't have the passion you do for helping hybrids. They just want the title and the fame."
Ryudo scrolled down the list. There were at least a hundred of names on the list, including Blake who was in the top ten.
"May I ask, why are you retiring so early? You don't look that old to me?" Ryudo said, handing him back the PDA.
"Manners, Ryudo," his mom chided.
"It's okay, Doris. To tell you the truth, I need a new line of work. Being cooped up in a hospital for hours does tend to get a little tedious."
Ryudo raised an eyebrow at him as he just smiled.
"Suppose I do take this job, what are the odds that the people you have working there will listen to me?"
"Simple. Out of all the people you saw on my PDA, you can choose whoever you want to work with you. Most of the staff I have now, do like what they are doing, even though they have that look of complete and utter disgust in their eyes."
Ryudo crossed his arms, his mind trying to comprehend what he just heard.
"You don't have to make your decision now, Son. You still have to graduate and get your last few licenses first," Peter said getting up along with Anthony.
"It was nice meeting you, Ryudo. I do hope we'll be able to meet again."
Ryudo gave a forced smile and shook his hand. He watched his dad leave with Anthony before his mom spoke up.
"Isn't that great news, son?"
"It's a little too good to be true actually."
"You've got nothing to worry about, Hun. I'm sure everything will work out."
"If you say so," Ryudo said getting up. "Anyway, I got studying to do, so I'll catch you later."
"Make us proud, son," Doris said, giving him a hug.
Ryudo walked out of the house in time to see Edwards pulling away down the street. Peter turned to look at him with a smile.
"How about that, son? You're just about to graduate and already have a job lined up for you."
"Sounds like a dream come true," Ryudo said with some sarcasm.
"You don't seem pleased. Isn't this what you always wanted?"
"Yes, but not in this way. I wanted to work my way in becoming a doctor, not have it handed to me."
"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, son. Anyway, you have studying to do. We'll see you at your graduation."
Ryudo watched his father head back inside. With a shake of his head, he headed to his car and sat down. Shaking his head, he started his car and headed home.
///////
The alarm clock buzzed loudly as Ryudo stretched over to turn it off with a heavy groan. It was Friday already and finals were next week. Ryudo let out a groan and rolled onto his back. He felt two paws around his chest as Gail held him close, still asleep. With a sigh, he carefully detached himself and sat up in the bed, rolling his neck around a few times.
"Better grab me some breakfast."
After getting dressed and brushing his teeth, he went downstairs, surprised to see Shelly already up and about, staring out the window at the sunrise.
"Good morning, Shelly. What are you doing up so early?" Ryudo asked, filling the kettle with some water.
"Oh, good morning, Ryudo. Just watching the sunrise," she said with a smile and a wag of her tail.
"You going for that walk with Caroline today?"
"Yes. I'm a little nervous though."
Ryudo gave a chuckle before walking up behind her and rubbing her shoulders making her murr and lean into him.
"You have nothing to worry about. Like I said before, I've walked that trail plenty of times. Hardly anybody walks it. They all walk the trail by Connor's house."
The kettle started to whistle signaling the boiling water as Ryudo went in and turned it off. Grabbing a teacup, he placed two teabags and poured the hot water. The smell of herbs filled his nose, helping him to clear his mind.
"Care to try some tea Shelly?" Ryudo asked.
"Umm, sure."
Shelly walked over and took a seat as Ryudo poured her a cup. The herbs filled her nose making her sneeze a little. Taking a sip, she let out a murr as the tea sort of calmed her nerves. Looking at his watch, he saw it was almost time to go. Grabbing a thermos, he poured the rest of the tea inside and headed for the door.
"Make sure to relax and enjoy the view, Shelly. I guarantee you'll enjoy yourself."
"Okay," Shelly replied.
Ryudo smiled before heading out the door. He started the car, letting it warm up before taking off for school. Shelly sat there, sipping on her tea and letting her mind wander. Maybe she did need to get out of the house and relax a little.
"Morning, mom," Gail said, giving her a hug from behind making them both murr.
"Morning, son. Got any plans for today?"
"I'm going to read the rest of Ryudo's comic books. They are really funny. I wish you would let him teach you how to read."
"I'm happy the way I am son."
Gail made himself a quick bowl of cereal and joined his mom at the table, idle chatter passing between them. Soon the doorbell rang as Shelly got up to answer it.
"Hey, Shelly," Caroline said with a happy wag of her tail. "You ready for our walk?"
"I guess so. Are you sure we won't get in trouble?"
"I'm positive, Shelly. Trust me okay."
"Okay. Let me change into something more suitable."
Shelly walked downstairs into the basement, coming back up a few minutes later wearing a white shirt with a matching pair of shorts along with her collar.
"You want to join us, Gail?" Caroline asked.
"No thanks. I'm going to finish reading Ryudo's comic books."
"Okay, have fun then. Let's go, Shelly."
Gail watched them leave, leaving him alone in the house which was fine by him. Finishing his breakfast, he heading back upstairs into Ryudo's room. Looking in his closet, he found his comic book collection. Grabbing them, he settled himself on the bed and started reading. Time seemed to fly by until the doorbell rang making his ears perk up. Nobody should be coming over here. Putting his collar on, he headed downstairs and opened the door. What was waiting on the other side made his jaw drop.
/////////
Ryudo let out a sigh as he sat in his free period class. Lots of medicine and diseases running through his brain making his eyes hurt as he pinched the bridge of nose. He train of thought was broken when somebody grabbed the book he was reading.
"What the hell.....?"
He looked up to see a young man looking through the book, shaking his head in disgust.
"Can I have my book back?" Ryudo asked, not really in the mood to put up with anything as his head hurt.
"How can you lower yourself to helping those walking fleabags?"
"Can I have my book back?"
"What's the purpose of lowering yourself to their level? You are rich, man. They should be nothing but objects for you to abuse."
"I won't ask again nicely. My head's hurting and I really want to finish studying. Plus your constant blabbering isn't helping."
"And if I say no?" the young man said with a grin.
"Then I'll take it."
The young lad gave a chuckle before throwing the book at Ryudo's chest making him grunt, not expecting that to happen.
"It seems Jessica was right about you. You are a hybrid lover. You gave up that hot piece of ass for a furry ass? You ought to be ashamed, calling yourself a human being."
Ryudo got his breath back, before reopening the book and finding his place.
"If you want that so called hot piece of ass, then you're more than welcomed to it. If she's too loose for your taste, blame the basketball team."
The man let out a growl and grabbed Ryudo up by his shirt, his yellow eyes staring into Ryudo's.
"You take that back right now. Jessica's not a whore, furry lover."
Ryudo laughed in his face, shaking his head.
"Then you don't know her very well, do you? If you think I'm lying, ask the star point guard, Derrick. I'm sure he can give you a vivid detail of what she feels like."
Ryudo could see the rage in those yellow eyes making him smile. The kid let go of his shirt as Ryudo straightened it out. He was about to take his seat when he was sucker punched causing him to fall over his desk. All the kids watched with wide eyes seeing Ryudo fall to the ground. He could feel blood coming from his nose as he grimaced when he touched it.
"You'll get worse than that if I ever hear you talk about her like that again."
Ryudo stood up, blood coming from his nose as he stared at the kid, a smile on his face.
"Not a bad swing. A little more power and you would've broken my nose. I guess she must have you really under her spell. What's it like trying to fuck a hole that's open twenty four seven?"
This enraged the kid as he rushed towards him which is what Ryudo expected. The kid threw his right fist with speed towards Ryudo's face. Ryudo met him halfway with his right hand and deflected it down. Still in motion, he brought that same hand up, palm extended and connected sharply with the kid's nose, hearing a sick crack as the kid yelled in pain falling to the ground.
"That's how you break a nose," Ryudo said with a smile before setting his desk up and taking a seat.
"My nose! You broke my fucking nose!" the kid yelled, holding his nose which was pouring blood.
Ryudo wiped his nose of the little bit of blood before looking at the kid rolling on the floor. With a sigh, he got up and knelt down. He lifted him up, making the kid flinch thinking he was going to hit him again.
"Hold still. This will hurt."
Grabbing his nose, he pulled hard, getting the bone back in place making the kid yell in pain as the onlookers covered their ears from the scream. A teacher ran into the room after scream and saw Ryudo and the other kid on the floor.
"What happened in here?" the teacher asked.
"Moses started it," a kid spoke up. "Ryudo was studying when Moses took his text book."
"Why is he bleeding then?"
"I broke his nose," Ryudo said flatly. "Cause he tried to break mine."
"Whatever the reason, violence doesn't solve violence. Come on Moses, let get you to the nurses office."
The teacher helped Moses to his feet as they both left. Ryudo let out a sigh, his headache starting to kick in full time. The bell rang signaling the end of the period as kids grabbed their stuff and headed for the exit.
"So much for my free period," Ryudo groaned, packing his stuff into his backpack and heading for his next class.

Shelly and Caroline made it to Blake's house. It was a simple one story brick house, but very large all around. The front lawn was neatly cut as a large flower bed was positioned in the middle, a ring of white rock surrounding them.
"That's a beautiful lawn," Shelly said, leaning down to take in the sweet aroma of the different flowers.
"That belongs to Blake's dad. He's a great gardener and does lots of work for other people. Come on, the trail is just a little bit further up ahead," Caroline said with a happy wag of her tail.
They walked behind his house as a barely visible dirt trail lead into a forest of trees. Standing by the trail was a tall wolf. Its fur was a dark brown but going down its body it slowly faded into a beautiful golden brown. White fur stuck out from the tank top it was wearing. The only thing that stood out from being a typical wolf, was the large, dark brown-black wings that were folded neatly on its back. Its ears perked up and turned its head to the left to see Caroline and Shelly walk up.
"Hey, Caroline. How are you this morning?" the wolf said with a soft, gentle voice.
"Hey, Nick. I'm doing just fine."
"And who is the angel beside you?" he said, making Shelly blush.
"This is my good friend, Shelly. Shelly, this is Nick. We met here a few weeks back and been going on walks together."
"It's a pleasure to meet you," Shelly said with a smile.
"Oh believe me, the pleasure is all mine," Nick said, walking up to her and giving her paw a kiss making Shelly gasp.
His grasp was so gentle, Shelly couldn't help but shiver a little at the kiss.
"Now that we're all here, let's go for that walk," Caroline yipped happily.
They headed into the trail, listening to the birds chirp in the trees. The wind provided a cool breeze as most of the sun was blocked out by the trees, a few rays managing to breach the defense making it a serene and beautiful place.
"So," Nick said, extending his wings in a stretch before folding them back. "Tell me about yourself, Shelly."
Shelly looked up into Nick's golden eyes before looking away with a blush.
"Well, what do you want to know?"
"Well, where did you come from? What do you like? What are your favorite foods? Something to better understand you."
Shelly chuckled making Nick smile.
"Well, me and my son Gail came from a bad hybrid farm that treated us like dirt. Then a kind human named Ryudo came to the farm and bought Gail cause I asked him to. I later came down with a bad disease that restricted my breathing. Ryudo came back to the farm, risking arrest and his reputation, to help me. I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for his kindness."
Nick smiled, noticing the admiration she was portraying in her speech.
"He sounds like a very kind human."
"Oh, he is."
"You mentioned a son. May I ask where the father is?"
Shelly's ears folded and went quiet. Nick noticed and folded his ears as well.
"Did I say something wrong?" Nick asked with a small whine.
"My......husband died saving his master's son."
"Oh dear," Nick said with a gasp. "Please, forgive my rudeness in bringing up a hurtful subject."
"It's okay. It was an understandable question," Shelly said, bringing her head up to look at Nick with a smile. "I still have a part of him with me in Gail."
They walked in silence again, listening to the breeze blow through the trees as it ruffled their fur a little.
"Tell me about yourself, Nick. How did you get those wings? I never seen a wolf with wings before."
"Well, my master is a professional roofer and with my wings, it's easy for me to help bring up supplies while he's working. My wings, I got from my mom. She was an eagle and my dad was a grey wolf. Kind of an odd combo, but I'm grateful to them for giving me life," he said, stretching out his wing in a proud display.
"Can I touch them?" Shelly asked.
"Be my guest my lady."
She walked closer and reached out for one of his wings. The softness took her by surprise as she trailed her paw through each feather. They felt almost silk like as she wondered what it would be like to be covered by them.
"Enjoying yourself?" Caroline said with a grin.
Shelly let out a gasp and blushed madly, looking away as they chuckled.
"Sorry," she said softly.
"Don't be, milady," Nick said with a smile.
"We're almost to the clearing," Caroline smiled. "Just wait until you see the view."
They walked a little further as the trees started to thin revealing more of the sun. Soon, the trees disappeared, leaving nothing but a clear meadow. Shelly's eyes widened at the view on top of the hill she was on. It was a beautiful sight. The large lake below seemed to sparkle with the sun's rays. A lone boat was on the water as the occupant seemed to be fishing. A large mountain was in the distance with a forest of trees underneath it.
The hill they were on itself was covered with flowers as bees buzzed from one to another along with colorful butterflies. Birds flew in the clear blue sky before landing next to the lake's shore, grabbing a drink of the refreshing blue water.
"Its.......its beautiful," Shelly said, still staring out at the lake.
"I said you would love the view," Caroline said, taking a seat on grassy ground.
Shelly and Nick followed suit, enjoying the view and the cool breeze that came from the lake giving the air a salty aroma. Shelly closed her eyes, taking a deep breath and letting it out with a content sigh.
"This is beautiful Caroline. I can't thank you enough for bringing me out here."
"Anything for a friend," Caroline said happily, laying back on the grass and closing her eyes, tail wagging happily.
Nick smiled, looking at the happy, content smile on Shelly's face.
"How long have you known Caroline?" he asked.
"A week or so. But it seems like I've known her forever."
"Yeah, she's a great girl. Always there for her friends."
"What about you, Nick? Is your family close to where your master lives?"
"Both my parents are with kind owners and not far from each other. They write me whenever they get a chance to tell me how they are doing."
"Your parents can read and write?"
"Or course. Can't you?"
Shelly shook her head.
"My son knows how. Ryudo offered me but I turned him down."
"How come?" Nick asked, head tilted a little in wonder.
"I guess I figured I didn't really need to learn."
Nick nodded his head before leaning back on his arms and closing his eyes, enjoying the sun's rays.
"Everybody is entitled to their own. My master taught me so I could help him with cutting the boards and figuring out stuff that he might've missed."
Shelly nodded her head, taking a glance at Nick. He was taller than her as she had to look up at him. He looked lean and his arms showed the muscles that he used to help his master with the roofing. She couldn't help but blush, remembering the gentle hold and kiss on her hand.
"Lay down and enjoy the sun Shelly," Caroline said with a yawn, not even opening her eyes.
Shelly chuckled before laying down on the grass looking up into the clear blue sky. A cool breeze rushed over her body making her murr with content as her eyes closed, taking in the sun's rays. Soon she fell into a state of relaxation, falling into a blissful nap.

"_This can't be happening, can it?"_Gail thought to himself as he sat in front of the hybrid.
"Ryudo's house is pretty nice," the hybrid said looking around, ears perked. "So, what's your name?"
"It's....um....Gail."
"Well Gail, its a pleasure to meet you. My name's......" the hybrid said, getting up to shake his hand.
"Justin. I know who you are."
"I see. So Ryudo told you about me?"
"No. His mother did."
Justin chuckled before sitting back on the couch.
"So how long have you been with Ryudo?"
"About a week or so. I really like it here."
"Yeah. Ryudo is really a great guy."
"May I ask what you are doing here?" Gail asked, watching Justin still look around.
Justin looked at Gail before smiling.
"His graduation is after the finals. So his grandparents drove down here to celebrate. I asked if I could come because it would probably be the last time I would be able to see him."
Gail's mind was in a panic. If Ryudo found out that Justin was here, what would happen to him? Would Ryudo still even care about him? He saw the collar around Justin's neck but all Ryudo had to do was make a phone call to his parents and Justin would be his again.
"Are you okay? You've been quiet for a bit now."
"This shouldn't be happening," Gail said in almost a whisper, ears folding.
"What did you say?"
"Nothing," Gail said with a whine.
He took a glance at the clock which read almost three in the afternoon. Meaning Ryudo would be home at any minute. If was to come home and see Justin here....
"You have to go. Ryudo's parents are supposed to be here and I don't think they would be happy to see you," Gail said with a straight face.
"Yeah, they never did like me much. Although his mom started to warm up to me," Justin said with a chuckle and began to rise from the couch. "Nice meeting you Gail."
"Yeah, likewise," Gail said with a forced smile and shook his hand.
Both of their ears picked up the sound of a car pulling into the driveway. Gail started to panic as footsteps came up the pathway. The key was inserted and the door opened as Ryudo walked in. He tossed his bag down and let out a groan.
"God, I could really use a cup of tea and a nap."
He walked past the living room and upon looking in, did a double take at what he saw.
"Ju......Justin?"
"Long time no see Ryudo. You look good."
Ryudo's mouth went dry but couldn't help that huge smile that crossed his lips. Without a second thought, he rushed over and embraced Justin in a tight hug which Justin returned.
"Oh god, I thought I would never see you again," Ryudo said, his emotions starting to get to him as his voice cracked a little.
Without even thinking, he leaned his head up and kissed Justin deeply. Gail turned his head, a soft whine coming from him. They broke off with a soft smack as Ryudo hugged him again.
"Jesus, there are so many things I want to ask you. First off, why are you here?"
"You graduate next week. What kind of friend would I be if I didn't come? Your grandparents are here also."
"Here, sit down. God, you look good. I'm glad my grandparents are taking care of you."
"They are really nice to me. They even tell me stories about their childhood which is really interesting."
"Also very boring," Ryudo chuckled.
"I shouldn't stay long. Gail told me your parents are coming here. I don't want to cause a scene."
Ryudo looked at Gail who had his ears folded and looking away.
"My parents aren't coming over here. Gail, why would you say that?"
"I'm sorry," Gail said with a soft whine. "I'll leave you two alone to catch up."
With that said, he hurried upstairs, not bothering to stop that single tear that fell from his eye. Ryudo watched him curiously before turning his attention back to his first love.
"So, where are you staying? Not with my parents I hope?"
"No. We're staying at Terry's house."
Ryudo's cocked an eyebrow at that, trying to figure out who Terry was.
"Who's Terry?"
"A good friend of your grandfather. You wouldn't know him."
"Is it close to here?"
"Um.....I think it's about a twenty minute drive."
"Great. That means we can see each other everyday," Ryudo said happily.
Justin smiled but his ears twitched. He directed his eyes up the stairs to see Gail's shadow disappear.
"What about Gail?"
"What about him?" Ryudo asked.
"Aren't you going to bring him along?"
"Why? I can see him anytime I want."
Justin's smile faded as a lite growl was heard.
"It seems I overstayed my welcome here," he said getting up.
"What are you talking about? I just got here."
"I'll see you later when you're thinking straight," Justin said opening the door.
"Wait, do you want a ride at least?" Ryudo said getting up and hurrying to the door.
"No thanks. I've been to Terry's house before and I can walk just fine," Justin said with a little anger.
Ryudo watched him walk down the cobblestone path and turn right down the sidewalk. He watched his form disappear before closing the door, confusion on his face.
"Did I do something wrong?"
He walked back into the living room and took a seat. He didn't know what he did wrong, but the best thing that happened to him is being able to see and kiss that furry muzzle again. It'd been so long as he licked his lips, trying to keep the taste in his mouth. With a sigh, he got up from his seat and went into the kitchen, pouring some water into the kettle.
"I hope my parents don't find out he's here."
Once the water was ready, he poured himself a cup and sat at the table. He let his thoughts wander before Gail came downstairs. His eyes looked red, like he was crying a lot as Ryudo looked at him.
"What's wrong Gail?" Ryudo asked.
"Why would you care?" Gail said with a growl, grabbing a can of soda before heading back upstairs.
Ryudo got even more confused as he heard the door slam shut.
"Was it something I said?"
Confused, he got up and walked to Gail's door and knocked, noticing it was locked.
"Gail, are you okay?"
"Go away."
"What's wrong? This isn't like you."
"I said go away."
Ryudo looked confused before heading back downstairs. His pocket started to vibrate as he pulled out his phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey Ryudo, its Connor."
"What's up?"
"Do you think you can come over here for a bit? I need some help with these medical terms."
"Um.......sure. I'll be there in about eleven minutes."
Ryudo hung up and headed for the front door. Looking up at Gail's door, he wanted to say something but left without saying a word.
//////////
Shelly let out a soft murr, feeling something warm cover her as a cool breeze passed over her. She opened her eyes slowly to see one of Nick's wings covering her. Looking up, she saw Nick's soft yellow eyes looking at her.
"Oh," Shelly said bolting up quickly, a hot blush on her face. "I'm so sorry. Please forgive me."
"Don't apologize milady. You looked too comfortable to wake up."
"We better head back," Caroline said, taking a big stretch with a happy murr.
They all got up and took a stretch before heading back down the dirt trail. Shelly couldn't help but have a constant blush all the way, taking a peek at Nick every once in awhile. Once they reached the end of the trail, Nick gave a sigh.
"I wish we could take another walk but it appears that time is not on our side."
"It was good walking with you again, Nick," Caroline said with a smile.
"Indeed. And it was a pleasure to meet you, Shelly," Nick said, giving her paw another kiss.
"It was a pleasure to meet you, also," Shelly said with a heavy blush. "When will we meet again?"
"Whenever my master has time off. He's usually pretty busy. But, I'll see if I can talk him into a couple of days off, just for you. Have a good day, milady," Nick said with a bow before walking away.
They watched him leave, Shelly's tail wagging rapidly behind her as Caroline chuckled.
"It seems you found somebody."
Shelly blushed before chuckling.
"He almost reminds me of Matt. I guess that's why I'm so drawn to him."
"You'll have a chance to meet him again. He comes by almost twice a week. Come on, let's get you back home."
They walked back to Ryudo's house with idle chatter. Reaching the front door, Shelly turned and hugged Caroline.
"Thank you so much Caroline. I really enjoyed that walk."
"I'm glad you did. I told you it was worth it."
Shelly nodded, giving Caroline another hug before heading inside. Once inside, she went to her room and grabbed a fresh change of clothes before heading back upstairs to take a shower. Passing by Gail's room, her ears picked up the sound of crying.
"Gail? Are you okay?" Shelly asked, knocking gently on the door.
The door opened as Gail threw himself into Shelly arms, whining and sniffling.
"What's wrong honey?" Shelly asked concerned.
"Ryudo......doesn't......love me.....anymore."
"What are you talking about hun? Come and sit down."
They walked into Gail's room and sat down. Shelly noticed Gail's pillow was wet with tears. He laid down his head on Shelly's lap as she smoothed his head fur down.
"Now then, what is going on?"
"Ryudo's first hybrid came to the house. I tried to make him leave by telling a lie before Ryudo got home from school, but it was too late. When Ryudo got home, it was like I wasn't even there. I don't stand a chance against Justin."
"Why would you tell a lie in the first place, Son?"
"Because I didn't want Ryudo to see Justin."
"You're being selfish, Son. Ryudo can love more than one person. I don't think you have anything to fear."
"But what if he asks his parents if he could get Justin back? What will happen to us?"
Shelly chuckled and shook her head.
"Hun, you are being paranoid. I'm pretty sure Ryudo wouldn't let anything happen to us. Besides, it was probably his emotional side you saw. How long has it been since he last seen Justin?"
"I think a few years."
"Wouldn't you feel emotional too about having seen somebody you love after so long?"
Gail thought about it, slowing nodding his head in agreement.
"He told you he loved you didn't he?"
"Yes."
"Then you have nothing to worry about. Now, I need to take a shower and relax after a great day. You think about what I said and try not to jump to conclusions."
She gives him a kiss on the head before getting up and heading to the bathroom. Gail's ears picks up the sound of the shower running as he sits up on the bed. His mom was right. He was jumping the gun too quickly. He wiped his nose before taking a seat on the computer chair.
"I'll talk to Ryudo when he comes back home."
Nodding his head at his decision, he turned on the computer and started up his training program.
/////////
"You know, the last thing I wanted was to see more of this shit," Ryudo groaned, rubbing his temples.
"I'm sorry man. But nobody else would pick up their phone," Connor said, writing down some notes.
"You're lucky I like you," Ryudo chuckled.
"I told him to call somebody else. I'm sorry Ryudo."
Ryudo looked at the cheetah hybrid before smiling.
"Its okay Hosea. I'll just put it on his tab."
"So, how many more licenses do you need to get?" Connor asked, sitting the pen down after finishing a sentence.
"Three more which I'm going to get Saturday."
"I wish you luck man. I don't think I would be able to get them. I'm just barely passing this class."
"It's a lot of memorizing, but I'm determined to make sure that hybrids get the care they deserve."
Hosea smiled before slipping his arms around Ryudo's neck and giving it a lick, a soft purr coming from his throat.
"You are like a god to us Ryudo. Maybe when I'm sick, you can give me a 'complete' physical?"
"Hosea, what are you doing?" Connor said, a smile on his face.
"Just giving the person who's going to save my life one day the thanks he deserves," Hosea replied, sticking his tongue out playfully.
"And what about me? I saved your life too remember?"
"Did you?" Hosea said, opening one purple eye and looking at him. "If I remember correctly, it was the other way around. If I didn't come there when I did, you would've lost your arm."
Connor blushed as Ryudo chuckled.
"Wise ass," Connor said.
Hosea chuckled softly before walking over and sitting directly on Connor's lap, pulling him into a deep kiss.
"You know I only do that to play with you."
"I hate you and love you at the same time," Connor grinned before kissing him again.
Hosea purred, grinding his hips into Connor's lap.
"Can you guys wait until I leave?" Ryudo chuckled.
Hosea broke the kiss and looked over his shoulder.
"Why not join us? I'm sure we can keep you entertained."
Ryudo shuffled a little in his seat, images of Hosea's naked body started to form in his mind.
"I'll pass thank you. I'm going to head back. You think you can handle the rest by yourself?" Ryudo asked.
"Yeah. You gave me a great explanation. I should be able to take it from here," Connor said with a smile.
Ryudo got up, heading to the front door.
"I would see you out, but it seems I need to punish a certain polka dotted hybrid," Connor said, squeezing Hosea butt getting a growl from him.
"Catch you later Ryudo," Hosea added before letting out a moan.
Ryudo headed back to his car and sat down. He saw the light in the living room go off and the bedroom go on a few seconds later.
"God, those two screw like rabbits. Good thing his parents are out of town," Ryudo chuckled before starting his car and taking off.
He made it back home as the street lights illuminated the otherwise black street. Pulling into the driveway, he stopped the car and got out. All the lights were off except the one coming from Gail's room. Entering the house, he walked upstairs towards Gail's room.
"Listen Gail, can you....."
He stopped seeing Gail was asleep with the computer on. With a chuckle, he walked in and lifted Gail gently in his arms before placing him in his bed. Pulling the covers over him, he gave him a kiss on the forehead getting a sigh from Gail as he shifted in his sleep. Turning off the computer and light, he went into his room and laid down. As soon as his head hit the fluffy pillows, he was out like a light.

Ryudo let out a sigh as he waited by the front door for Blake. He only needed three more licenses and he was going to get them today. If he failed, he would have to wait a month before he would be able to take the tests again. He pulled out his phone and looked at the time. Blake was running late. If they didn't get to the place soon, they would be late and wouldn't be able to take the tests. He was about to call Blake when his car turned the corner of the street.
"Took long enough," Ryudo said, hurrying down the path and hopped into the passenger side.
"God, I'm sorry for being late," Blake said, hitting the gas as soon as Ryudo hopped in.
"What's your excuse this time?"
"I don't have any," Blake said, stopping at a red light.
Ryudo looked at him in shock.
"Blake Johnson doesn't have an excuse? Wow, has hell frozen over?"
"Smart ass," Blake chuckled. "I can be honest when I want to be."
"Are you sure you're Blake? I hope this isn't some alien trap to deliver me to a secret location for probing?"
"Okay, okay, you made your point."
Ryudo laughed along with Blake as they pulled into the government building parking lot. Finding a park, they hurried inside to the front desk where a secretary was typing away.
"Can I help you?" she said, not looking up.
"We're here to take the final licenses tests," Ryudo said, pulling out his license along with Blake.
The secretary laid them next to the computer and typed away.
"You almost didn't make it. You have about four minutes to get to the top floor," she said, taking the papers that printed out from the printer and handed it to them along with their IDs. "Show this to the instructor. Good luck."
"Thank you," they both said and hurried to the elevator.
They reached the top of the seventh floor building and hurried down the hall. Reaching the door, Ryudo knocked before they both entered. The instructor, a very slim looking lady with blond hair, grey eyes and glasses looked at them.
"Can I help you?" she said.
"Yes, Ryudo Peterson and Blake Johnson here for the last of our licenses," Blake said, handing her the paper along with Ryudo.
The instructor looked over the paper before nodding her head.
"Very well," she said, reaching into the large bag next to the desk and pulling out a test as thick as a phone book. "Here you go. Just be warned that this will take a while for you to finish. If you need a bathroom break, there is one down the hall, second door on the left. Lunch break is at one and you are allowed an hour, no more. Once you are finished, hand the test back and you are welcome to leave. You will get your licenses in the mail if you passed. If not, you will get a letter saying you need to retake the test which will cost you. Do I need to repeat anything?"
"No ma'am," they both said.
"Excellent. Here you go and good luck."
"Thank you," they both said.
Grabbing the test, they took a seat by a table next to a window. There were at least eighteen other people in the room along with them as the sound of pencil on paper dominated the air.
"Good luck man," Blake whispered.
"You too. I know we can do it," Ryudo smiled.
Opening the test book, he found it to be a standard fill in the bubble which made it easier. Looking at the first question, his mind became focused. With a deep breath, he began. Time seemed to go at a leisured (or leisurely) pace, both Ryudo and Blake circling their answers and moving on to the next question.
"Alright everybody," the instructor spoke up. "It's now one o'clock and you may have your lunch break. Be sure to be back here in one hour. If you have an alarm on your phone or watch, I recommend you use it."
Ryudo got up with a stretch, flexing his stiff joints that popped with every movement.
"Come on Blake, lets get something eat. My stomach is growling."
"I'm with you on that one," Blake said, closing the test book and rubbing his eyes. "Where do you want to go?"
"There's a place around here that makes a great fish and chip platter. Don't know the name of it though."
"I know the place you're talking about. Lets go."
They exited the building, following everybody as they got into their cars and headed for something to eat. Ryudo rubbed his eyes, his mind still focused on the task at hand, but it slowly went back to the events that happened previously. Justin was back in town for his graduation. He wanted to spend as much time with him as possible before his parents found out.
"This is the place," Blake said, pulling into the parking lot of the Quick-trip Cafe.
Getting out, they headed for the front door and entered. The cool blast of the A/C hit their faces making goosebumps appear.
"Welcome to the Quick-trip Cafe," a waitress said with a smile. "You want a stool or a booth?"
"We'll take a booth," Blake said.
"Certainly. This way please."
She led them to a window booth seat and handed them a menu.
"Can I get you two anything to drink?"
"I'll take an orange float," Blake spoke up looking through the menu.
"Same with me," Ryudo added.
"Coming right up."
They looked through the menu, trying to decide what to get before Blake spoke up.
"You looked tense coming over here. What's on your mind?" Blake said, directing his eyes up from the menu to look at Ryudo.
Ryudo looked at him before sighing and sitting back in the leather seat.
"Justin is here."
Blake looked at him with wide eyes.
"You serious? Justin is back in town?"
"Yeah. Him and my grandparents are here for my graduation."
"Jesus man," Blake said, placing the menu down and crossing his arms. "What are you going to do?"
"I don't know," Ryudo said, running his hands through his hair.
"Have you gentlemen decided what you wanted?" the waitress said coming back.
"Yeah, I'll have the fish and chips platter," Ryudo said handing her the menu.
"Very well, what about you sir?"
"I'll take the foot-long hot dog with everything on it but onions."
"Coming right up," the waitress said, writing down their orders and taking the menus away.
Blake turned his attention back to Ryudo who had his arms crossed.
"You know there's going to be all sorts of commotion now that he's back right?" Blake spoke up.
"I know. I think it already started at my house."
"What do you mean?"
"Gail was acting funny. When I asked him what was wrong, all I got was a mean growl and a slam of his door."
Blake laughed at that before shaking his head.
"Are you that dense?"
"What do you mean?" Ryudo asked, raising an eyebrow.
Blake was about to respond when their food was brought out.
"Here you go gentlemen. Fish and chips for you, and one foot-long with everything but onions for you. If you need anything else, please ask."
They gave a thanks before digging in. The paper wasn't lying when they said the fish and chip platter was great. The fish was flaky and the coating was crisp, a perfect combination. Ryudo added some tartar sauce on a piece he cut off before popping it into his mouth, savoring the delicious flavor.
"Now, what do you mean I'm dense?" Ryudo asked Blake, wiping some tartar sauce from the corner of his mouth.
"Gail's jealous man. He thinks that with Justin back, you would kick him to the curb."
"That's ridiculous. I would never do that."
Blake looked at him skeptically.
"You say that now, but if given the chance to have Justin back, you would jump on it in a heartbeat, am I right?"
Ryudo went quiet. Was Blake actually right? Would he outright reject Gail to have Justin back? Sure he loved Gail, but Justin is.....well.....Justin.
"Also think about this," Blake said, taking a swallow of his orange float. "You were Gail's first. To hurt him now would crush him forever. I know your parents are not fond of Justin, but you could probably persuade your grandparents for a trade. If you do trade, what about Shelly? Would you tear him away from her after all the trouble you put us both in that night we went back to the farm to help her?"
Ryudo was quiet as he took another bite of the battered fish on the plate. Loads of questions danced around his head like a bunch of preschoolers running in the playground.
"Anyway, we better head back," Blake said, looking at his phone which read one forty five.
Paying for their food, they headed back to the building to finish their tests. Walking into the room, they noticed everybody was just getting back themselves as they settled into their seats. With a crack of his knuckles, Ryudo picked up his pencil and continued the test with renewed vigor after eating.
Time flew by as all the people in the room filled in the bubbles of the seemingly never ending test. Ryudo happened to glance at the clock which read six thirty. They'd been there for almost seven hours as the sky was getting a little dark with the setting sun. He only had about seven pages left which shouldn't take him take long to finish. After another thirty minutes had passed, he circled the last bubble and let out a sigh.
"Finally done," he groaned softly.
He looked over at Blake who was on his last page. Another five minutes, and Blake was done himself.
"Thank god that's over with."
"No kidding. Let's get out of here," Ryudo whispered, getting up along with Blake.
They handed their test to the instructor, saying thanks and left the room. Catching the elevator, they were quiet on the way down all the way to the car. Getting in, they both let out a sigh and smiled.
"Let's hope for some good news," Blake said, starting the car.
They rode in silence, letting the radio station that was playing jazz music fill the car with smooth lyrics. Blake pulled into Ryudo's driveway, putting the car in park and keeping the engine running.
"Remember what we talked about man. What you do now, is all up to you. I'll see you Monday for finals."
Ryudo nodded his head before getting out. He watched Blake pull out, give a couple of beeps before disappearing down the street. Looking at his house, the lights in the living room were on as he walked up the pathway. Walking in, he took off his shoes and headed for the kitchen. Shelly was on the couch sewing when she heard Ryudo enter.
"Good evening, Ryudo. Welcome back," she said with a smile and a wag.
"Hey Shelly. Did you enjoy your walk?" Ryudo asked, walking into the kitchen and grabbing a bottle of Mudslide.
"It was wonderful Ryudo. I'm so glad I went."
"I said you would enjoy it."
Unscrewing the bottle, he took a mighty gulp, loving the chocolatey alcoholic beverage as it went down his throat.
"What is that you're drinking?" Shelly asked curiously.
"It's called a Mudslide. It's a favorite alcoholic drink of mine when I have a lot on my mind," Ryudo responded. "If you want to try some, feel free. Just don't overdo it. I don't know how alcohol will affect a hybrid. I'm going to sleep early. That test took a lot out of me. Have a good night."
"Good night, Ryudo," Shelly replied, giving a small giggle as Ryudo tickled her ear.
Walking up the stairs, he made it to his room where Gail was already asleep. His mind went back to what Blake said as he sighed. He stripped down to his boxers and got behind Gail and under the covers. Gail threw his arm over his chest, letting a happy sigh escape him. Ryudo let out another sigh before falling asleep.

Monday was the start of the three day finals with graduation coming on Friday. Ryudo sat in his first class which was math. He had finals in that and history today. Then on Tuesday, he had finals on hybrid diseases and medicine. On Wednesday, he had his last final which was on hybrid skeletal structure. He knew he could pass all of them with flying colors, but hybrid diseases and medicine would give him the hardest time.
"Alright everybody, today begins your finals, the last step before graduation. You guys have done an excellent job this year which makes my report card look good when it comes time for a raise."
The kids chuckled at that along with the teacher. He placed a large stack of paper on the desk before taking a seat.
"Once you are done with your final, you are free to leave. Grats on those that are graduating and those that are advancing to the next year, I'll see you then. Come up and get your final and begin."
Everybody got up and grabbed a test before sitting back down and starting. Pencil scribbling on paper dominated the air except for the occasional cough or clearing of throat. One by one, the students got up and handed the teacher their finals before quietly grabbing their bags and leaving. Once Ryudo was finished, he laid his test on the desk before grabbing his books and leaving, saying a farewell to the teacher. Once outside, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, hitting the speed dial button for his mom.
"Yes, son, what can I do for you?"
"Hey mom. You know grandma and granddad are here right?"
"Of course I do. They are right here with us now."
"Can I speak to granddad really fast?"
"Sure. Hang on a sec."
Rustling was heard before a rough voice answered.
"There's the graduating man of the hour. How's it going champ?"
"Great, gramps."
"Glad to hear it. What can I do for you?"
"Justin isn't there with you is he?"
"No. He's at Terry's house. I know your father doesn't want him around."
"You wouldn't happened to have Terry's address would you?"
"You're thinking about going over to visit him? After all that commotion you two stirred up a few years back?"
Ryudo let out a grunt at that. He thought his grandfather would be on his side.
"I don't care about that. Let people think what they want."
There was silence on the other end except for laughter in the background.
"Very well. Grab a pen and I'll tell you."
Writing down the address, he gave his grandfather thanks before hanging up. Now that he had that, all that remained was to finish the last final and hang with Justin for the rest of the day. With a smile, he headed for his next class. Walking in, he took his seat. It was still early so he had time to review a little bit. That was short lived when he heard an unwanted voice.
"Have you changed your mind yet Ryudo?"
He directed his eyes up to see Jessica standing in front of him, hands on her hips as she tapped her foot angrily.
"You already know my answer. And next time, try fighting your battles instead of sending some half-ass to do it."
"He wasn't suppose to hit you, just try to talk some sense into you. I don't see what those walking rugs have that I don't."
"You mean besides a soul?"
Jessica ground her teeth in frustration before sighing softly, biting her bottom lip.
"Why can't you see that I want you Ryudo? You are what I dream about everyday since we started talking years back. We use to hang out a lot in high school."
Her fists balled tightly as Ryudo looked up at her.
"But then you blew me off for some fucking coyote hybrid. I tried to figure out what I did wrong and correct my mistakes but nothing seemed to get through to you. Why can't you see that I have a lot more to offer you than them? I can give you children, they can't. I can cook, they can't. I can hold a job and support you when you're sick, they can't. God made man and woman, not man and hybrid."
Ryudo just looked at her before going back to his notes.
"How long did it take you to rehearse that?"
Jessica huffed angrily before storming towards the door.
"Fine, if you want to play hard to get, be that way. Two can play this game. But remember, women can play it better and the consequences are a lot worse."
He watched her leave before shaking his head.
"Women," he chuckled softly as the students started to file in.
The teacher entered and rambled quickly, wanting to get out as much as the students. He laid the tests on the desk before sitting down. Ryudo grabbed his test and sat down. He wanted to finish as fast as possible to hang with Justin for the rest of the day. It took him about thirty five minutes to finish, placing the test on the desk and rushing out.
"Time for the real fun to begin," he said with a smile, hurrying to his car.
Taking out the paper with the address, he memorized where all the streets were before he found the street where Terry lived and made a beeline for it. He parked on the street next to a brick house. A fountain was in the middle of the lawn surrounded by patches of flowers giving the front lawn a beautiful look.
"Looks like Blake's dad has a customer in Terry," Ryudo said, walking up the path to the front door.
He rang the doorbell once and waited, his stomach starting to become a little nervous. The door opened as that familiar muzzle came into view. He gave a wide smile seeing Justin look at him.
"Hey Justin," Ryudo said happily.
"Hey Ryudo. What are you doing here?" Justin asked.
"I finished the last of my finals for today. So I was wondering if you wanted to hang out like we did back in the days?"
Justin looked at him before giving a smile.
"Sure why not."
"Great," Ryudo said happily. "Shall we go?"
Justin nodded before heading back inside for a brief second, coming back out and closing the door. They walked to the car together and got in.
"So where to?" Justin asked, putting the seat-belt on.
"I figure we could take a walk down that trail by the pond and kind of catch up on things."
"Sounds like a plan to me. Let's go."
Ryudo drove for about seventeen minutes before coming to a stop next to a large playground. Parents were watching their kids playing on the swings and sandbox as they did idle chatter with each other. The hybrids that were there, were chained to a post like dogs. Some of them sweating and panting as the sun beat down on them.
"I see some things haven't changed at this place,"Justin said, looking at the hybrids with sadness.
"Humans only care about themselves. Come on, lets get that walk in."
They walked past the loud laughter of the children and the piercing gaze the adults gave them. Ryudo even made a point to hold Justin's paw which he squeezed back. They walked into the trees, following the path in front of them, hands still intertwined. The birds chirped above them as they came to a clearing that held a large pond with a wooden pier.
"This bring back memories," Justin said, taking a seat at the edge of the pier.
"Sure does. Remember when we both jumped in to avoid getting stung by that wasp hive?" Ryudo chuckled.
"And who's fault was that?" Justin replied, grinning at him.
Ryudo laughed, feeling that joy he had once before when hanging with Justin.
"I miss this. Just the two of us," Ryudo said softly.
Justin's ears folded slightly as he remembered also.
"When they took you away from me, it felt like my life was over. You don't know how badly I wanted to go with you. Just to escape from the shadow of my stupid parents. I stopped speaking to them for a month and refused every gift of goodwill. They just didn't understand. Nobody understood how much you meant to me beside Blake and the others."
"How is Blake doing anyway? Still being goofy as always?" Justin chuckled.
"He'll never change. That's just the way he is."
Silence was golden for a few minutes as the chirping of birds could be heard all around them.
"Do you.......still love me Justin?" Ryudo asked softly.
Justin looked at him with a smile before leaning over, his muzzle meeting Ryudo's lips as they shared a deep kiss.
"I will always love you Ryudo," Justin replied softly, laying his head on his shoulder.
Ryudo smiled, holding him close and rubbing his arm with his hand. Justin let out a murr, his tail wagging happily behind him. His ears twitched making him look over his shoulder.
"What's wrong?" Ryudo asked.
"I thought I heard something."
"Probably a squirrel or something."
Ryudo gave Justin another kiss which was returned happily.
"You don't know how much I missed that muzzle of yours. You were all I could think about when they took you from me."
"I wanted to write you, but you said not to get in trouble."
"And I thank you for that. My father would've probably burnt them before I got a chance to read them."
"He would, wouldn't he? I never understood why he didn't like me."
"He doesn't like anybody that's not giving him money or praise."
They went silent again, enjoying each others company after a long absence before Justin let out a sigh.
"I should be getting back. I told Terry I would be back in an hour or so."
"Do you really have to go back?" Ryudo pouted.
"I have to help him in the garage. He wants to clean out all the junk and possibly sell anything he doesn't need so he can make room for the car he's getting."
"Alright," Ryudo said, reluctantly getting up.
They made their way back through the trail to the park, receiving more stares as the adults started talking and pointing at them, some of them having looks of pure disgust on their face. But it didn't bother either of them as they got into the car and headed back to Terry's house. Parking on the street, Ryudo shut the engine off as they sat there.
"Can I see you tomorrow?" Ryudo asked.
"Sadly no. Your grandparents are taking me to the Lost and Found for something suitable to wear to your graduation."
"Blah," Ryudo groaned making Justin chuckle.
Ryudo leaned over and gave him a kiss, both their tongues fighting each other before Justin pulled back.
"I better get going before Terry sees us. He's a very church going person and would probably kick me and your grandparents out."
"If he does you are more than welcomed to stay with me."
"It wouldn't work out. Have a good day Ryudo," Justin said, giving him a lick on the cheek before getting out the car and walking up to the front door.
Justin looked back and gave a wave before disappearing inside. Ryudo sat in the car in silence, trying to figure out what to do now. An idea popped into his head as he fished out his phone and hit the speed dial.
"Hey Pops, you have the address for the hospital that Anthony works at?"

Shelly and Gail sat in the living room watching TV together. Both of their minds were occupied as neither spoke a word. Shelly's mind was thinking about Nick. He had the sort of personality that copied Matt in every way possible. He was sweet, kind, and funny. Not to mention cute, the wings adding to the exoticness. She hoped she could see him again and spend more time with him.
Gail's mind was on the situation happening to him. With Justin back in town, what was going to happened to his relationship with Ryudo? Sure he said he loved him, but that could change at anytime with Justin here. Maybe he was wrong in yelling at Ryudo that day he asked what was wrong. But his emotions at seeing them kiss in front of him took control. Shelly said he had nothing to worry about, but that nagging doubt in the back of his mind keep bugging him. What if Ryudo DID ask Justin to stay? Could Ryudo love both him and Justin? Who would sleep in his bed? Who would get the most attention? He let out a soft whine which Shelly heard and looked at him.
"What's wrong honey?" she asked softly.
"Nothing mom," Gail replied, looking at her and giving a forced smile.
"You can't lie to me son," Shelly chuckled. "I know when you have something on your mind."
Gail was about to reply when the doorbell rang. Both their ears perked up and looked at the door. Gail got up and rushed to him his room, grabbing his collar in case anybody behind the door started to ask questions. Opening the door, he saw a strange wolf hybrid with wings standing there with a smile.
"Howdy," the wolf said. "I take it you must be Gail?"
"How do you know my name?" Gail asked, eyes narrowing at the stranger.
"Your mom-"
"You stay away from my mother," Gail growled, grabbing the wolf by the shirt, even though he was shorter.
"Gail, what's going....." Shelly started before letting out a gasp at the scene in front of her. "Gail, let him go this instant."
"But mom....."
"Now!" Shelly barked angrily.
Gail let out a whine, letting go of the hybrid and back stepping into the house as Shelly walked up.
"I'm so sorry about that, Nick. He's very protective of me."
"That's quite okay. No harm done," Nick said with a smile, smoothing down his shirt.
"Please, come in."
"Thank you," Nick said, walking into the house.
They took a seat in the living room as Nick looked around.
"Beautiful home your master has. I'm kind of jealous."
"Thank you. I'll be sure to tell him that when he gets back. What brings you over here?" Shelly asked.
"I was wondering if you wanted to take another walk with me today?"
Shelly's ears perked up at that before blushing a little.
"Is Caroline going to be joining us?"
"Not on this one. I was hoping it would be just the two of us. If that's okay with you? I know a place where you could see a great sunset."
"Where's your master at? Aren't you suppose to be with him?" Gail asked.
"My master's taking the next couple of days off so I'm free to wander around. Or in my case, fly around," he said with a smile and a stretch of his wings.
"Won't you get in trouble?" Gail questioned, trying to figure this Nick person out.
"Most humans around this town know me and my master. So they leave me alone."
Gail gave a soft grunt. He didn't like the idea of his mom going anywhere alone with a hybrid he didn't know. He could feel his mom's tail wagging rapidly on the couch.
"I guess it would be okay, as long we're back at a reasonable time," Shelly spoke up.
"I'll make sure to have you back before the stars appear," Nick replied.
Shelly thought about it. A nice walk alone with this charming and funny wolf would probably end up being the second best day of her life.
"Okay. Let me change into something more suitable."
They watched her head down to the basement before Gail looked at Nick.
"If you hurt my mom in anyway....."
"You have my honor and word that no harm will ever come to her."
Gail gave a small growl and was about to say something else when his mom came back up wearing another pair of black shorts along with a tank top revealing some of her white chest tuft.
"Okay, I'm all set here," she said, applying the collar around her neck.
"Great," Nick said with a smile and got up from the recliner.
They headed for the front door as Gail followed them. He let out a soft whine as Shelly looked at him.
"Don't worry hun. I'll be back before you know it. Why don't you go read some more of Ryudo's comic books you like so much? I'm sure they could keep you busy until Ryudo comes home."
"I guess," Gail said, ears folded and looking at the ground.
"Hey," Shelly said softly, lifting his chin to look into his eyes. "Remember what we talked about, okay?"
Gail nodded his head softly making Shelly smile and give him a kiss on the forehead.
"That's my boy. If Ryudo comes back before me, tell him I went out with one of Caroline's friends."
"Okay mom," Gail said, a small wag to his tail.
Shelly smiled as she and Nick walked down the pathway. Reaching the sidewalk, Nick picked her up earning a gasp from Shelly before she chuckled along with him. He extended his wings as they both took off into the air. Gail watched them disappear into the sky before he slowly closed the door. Once the door was closed, he couldn't help the flood of emotions that ran through him as he slid down on the wall and started to cry, feeling so alone.

Ryudo pulled into the Express Scripts Hybrid Hospital parking lot and found a park. Getting out, he took a look at it. It was a decent size hospital that was four stories high. The windows were all tinted so you couldn't see the inside to protect privacy. He looked up to see a pit-bull and a skunk washing the windows on a scaffolding. Beautiful flowers lined the outside of the building as a man was tending to them, a straw hat on his head.
"It seems they keep this place up to date. I wonder what the inside looks like."
He walked towards the entrance, the automatic doors opening with a soft whoosh and closing quietly behind him. The cool A/C breeze hit his face as the smell of alcohol was strong. The marble floors were shiny as a bull was waxing. Armed guards were stationed right next to the entrance in an office as they watched the cameras. Walking up to the front desk, the secretary greeted him.
"Good evening sir. Welcome to the Express Scripts Hybrid Hospital. What can I do for you today?"
"Um, I was wondering if I could see Anthony Edwards?"
"One second and I'll call his office."
She picked up the phone and hit a few numbers before waiting.
"Dr. Edwards? You have a visitor here to see you. Thank you. He said he'll be right down. You can have a seat in the waiting room right around the corner."
"Thank you," Ryudo said with a nod of his head.
He walked around the corner to see a large, carpeted waiting room. He took a seat on one of the nice chairs, surprised that they even had these kind. The end tables had an assortment of magazines to sort through while a wall mounted TV was playing a kids show as several small hybrid kids were watching the show and giggling away.
"This place surprises me. I was expecting something more.......horrible."
Hybrids along with their owners, were waiting for their doctors to get examined and checked out. Some of them looked pretty healthy but looks can be deceiving. He knew some people told their hybrids to put on a front so they could pass the inspection and not get the treatment needed. He looked at a lizard hybrid. Its scales looked rough and dry, like it hadn't been given any kind of treatment in a good while.
"And we're suppose to be made in God's image? Don't make me laugh," Ryudo said with a grunt.
"Mr. Peterson, this is a surprise," Edwards said, turning the corner.
Ryudo looked to his right to see Anthony wearing the custom doctor's outfit, hand in his pockets.
"I finished my first two finals and had some time on my hands. So I figured I would come and see this place for the first time."
"Well, what do you think?"
"It's impressive so far."
"How about I give you the full tour then? Let you see how this hospital is operated."
"Sounds good to me," Ryudo said getting up.
They made a brief stop at the security office to get Ryudo a visitor's ID card then proceeded to walk around.
"So, the first floor is where the emergency room is along with the gift shop and maintenance," Edwards said, walking along side Ryudo towards the elevator.
"I noticed some hybrids working outside washing windows. Are they just here for manual labor?"
"They are here because they want to be. I don't force any kind of labor on anybody. Humans and hybrids are here because they want to be."
Ryudo looked at him before nodding his head as they reached the elevator. Getting in, they headed to the next floor and got off.
"Second floor consists of the cafeteria, x-ray, radiology, pharmacy, and surgery rooms. Let me show you the cafeteria."
They walked down the hall, passing some doctors wheeling hybrids around in wheelchairs or beds. Going through a pair of double doors, they walked into a large room with tons of tables and chairs occupied by doctors and some hybrids. Ryudo did notice that they were on separate sides of the room, hybrids to the left and humans to the right.
"The cafeteria serves probably the best food out of all the hospitals in the area," Edwards said with a proud smile.
"All hospital food tastes the same: bland."
"Don't let Michelle hear you say that. She takes pride in making the menu for the patients here."
"Is she overweight and wear a hairnet?" Ryudo chuckled.
"See for yourself. She's right behind you."
Ryudo turned around to see a deer hybrid with its arms crossed and glaring at him.
"I'm overweight huh?' she said with a huff.
"Um....I meant no disrespect."
She gave him another mean glare before looking at Anthony.
"Where are the carrots and potatoes I requested? I can't keep the patients health up without the proper food."
"It still hasn't arrived yet? I'm sorry about that. I'll give Sygma a call when I get back to the office."
"See that you do," Michelle said, turning around and heading for the kitchen.
Ryudo blew out a breath he didn't realize he was holding as Anthony chuckled.
"She's a feisty one ain't she?"
"I'll say," Ryudo agreed.
"Come on. Let's head to the next floor."
They took the stairs this time, Ryudo noticing that even the stairwell, that is usually full of dust and cobwebs, was spotless and clean. Opening the door, they arrived on the third floor.
"The third floor consists of the pediatrics ward, nurses wards, and most of the labs that test for stuff. The top floor has the patient rooms. The floor can hold roughly about two to three hundred hybrids, about four to six per room. My office is down this way. Come on."
They walked down the hall, getting some glances from other doctors and nurses. A lion cub dashed out the room, knocking Ryudo over as they both fell to the floor.
"I'm sorry mister," the cub said with a whine.
"It's okay," Ryudo said with a smile, rubbing his backside a little from the fall.
"Kyle, why are you running in the halls?" Anthony asked.
"It's Gerry. He's having trouble breathing."
"He is?" Ryudo said getting up.
"Yes. I couldn't find the nurse button so I was going to get help. Can you help him Dr. Edwards?"
"Let's have a look."
They walked into the room, seeing a small ferret cub clutching his chest hard.
"Gerry, can you hear me?" Anthony said, looking at his vitals as they started to peak in his panic.
"I.....can't.......breathe good," Gerry whined.
"I've seen this before," Ryudo said walking up to Gerry.
"You have?" Anthony asked. "Think you can help him?"
Ryudo smiled before nodding.
"I just need a few things."
Anthony smiled as Ryudo told him what he needed. Calling the nurse in, Anthony told him what he needed as it was brought in with quickness. He watched Ryudo apply the medicine as Gerry's vital signs went back to normal after a few minutes.
"Is he going to be okay, mister?" Kyle asked, ears folded.
"He'll be just fine after some rest, Kyle," Ryudo said with a smile.
"Thank you, mister," Kyle yipped happily, giving him a hug which Ryudo returned.
"Just make sure to keep it down while Gerry rests, okay?" Ryudo said, ruffled his head making Kyle giggle before nodding his head.
They left the room and headed towards Anthony's office. His office was pretty nice. Lots of diplomas and licenses hung on the left side of the wall showing his years of practice. A large oak bookcase was next to it filled with books on various subjects. A decorated brown rug with the image of yin and yang stood in the middle. On top of it was a glass table in the shape of a tear with fake flowers on top. A grey leather sofa stood against the right side underneath a clock.
"Please, have a seat," Anthony said, taking a seat behind his desk.
Ryudo took a seat, taking a glance out the window at the nice view of the countryside.
"So, how do you like it?"
"It's pretty nice," Ryudo said, sitting back in the comfy couch.
"I'm glad you think so. It took awhile to get it up to my standards, but I'm happy with the results. Pretty soon, it will all be yours."
"I'm still kind of skeptical about that."
"Let me guess, you think I'm stepping down because of something I did and you don't want the hassle of dealing with it?"
Ryudo gave a half smile and shrugged his shoulders.
"That's half of it. The other half I'll figure out for myself."
Anthony chuckled before leaning back in the chair and crossing his legs.
"Ryudo, I've been a hybrid doctor for almost eight years. I've been on the receiving ends of so many threats that I've become immune to them. There was a ton of opposition when this hospital was built. Nobody wanted this hospital up cause they didn't care about the hybrid. Their philosophy was: If a hybrid dies, just replace it."
Anthony closed his eyes before opening them again with a sigh.
"I've been through so much bullshit and red tape during those eight years. But when I look back on it, I'm glad I stuck with it. Seeing all the hybrids I've taken care of in the street as they greet me, really makes it all worthwhile. So don't think even for a second that I would leave this hospital with a heavy burden for you. That's not who I am."
Ryudo looked at his eyes, seeing the burning conviction he held. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.
"How many more licenses do you need to get?" Anthony said, reaching under the desk and pulling out a bottle of water from the mini fridge. "Care for one?"
"Sure," Ryudo said, giving a thank you as Anthony handed him one. "I took the last of the tests Saturday and just awaiting a letter on whether I passed or not."
"I hope you do pass. I would hate to see this hospital be taken down by an irresponsible person only in it for the name. It would hurt me very deeply. This hospital is like a second home for me."
Ryudo smiled before taking a sip of water. Anthony's desk phone went off as he hit the speakerphone button.
"Yes?"
"Dr. Edwards, you're needed in surgery in about five minutes."
"Thank you Robin. I'll be right there," Anthony said ending the call. "I guess our quality time comes to an end."
"So it seems," Ryudo replied, getting up. "Thanks for the tour and the info about the hospital."
"Thank you for stopping by and seeing it for yourself. I hope the next time we meet, I'll be handing you the keys to this office. Sorry I can't see you to the door."
"That's okay. Thanks again," Ryudo said, shaking Anthony's hand before heading to the elevators.
He went down to the first floor, giving his ID badge back to the security before exiting. Walking outside, he went to his car and sat down and rested his head on the steering wheel. Questions formed in his head as he sat there. If he did take the job, would people actually listen to him? Would people quit just because Anthony is gone and not in charge anymore? He groaned softly before starting the engine as it purred to life.
"God, I need a drink."
/////////
Gail sat in his room, head buried in his pillow. He felt so alone and miserable. It seemed like just yesterday, everything was perfect in his life. But in just a few moments, his life took a turn for the worse. He let out a whine, tears starting to form in his eyes.
"What happened? Why did things turn out like this?"
He let out a deep sigh as he hugged the pillow closer, looking for any sort of comfort. The front door opened making his ears turn to it, but not even getting up to see who entered. Quite frankly, he could care less at the moment. Footsteps were heard as a person made its way up the stairs before coming to a stop at his door. He took a sniff of the air and picked up Ryudo scent.
"Gail, you okay?" Ryudo asked softly.
"Not really," Gail replied, also softly.
"Want to talk about it?"
"Not really."
He heard Ryudo give a sigh, wanting so much to turn around and look into those soft, caring eyes of his.
"Well, when you feel like talking, my room is always open."
He heard Ryudo go into his room, the bed springs creaking under his weight. His mind screamed at him to run into his room and pour his heart to him, but his body remained on the bed. The shower was turned on as Gail opened his eyes and stared at the wall. The shower turned off after a while as Gail picked up the scented smell of body wash.
"Did you get something to eat Gail?" Ryudo asked, wearing his night clothes.
"Yes."
That was the only thing Ryudo asked him as he went downstairs, his brain hurting and desperate for a drink. Opening the fridge, he pulled out his favorite drink and sat down in the living room, not even bothering to turn on the light. The street lamps started to turn on outside, giving the room adequate light to see. Popping the top, he took two heavy gulps, the alcohol going straight to his head which is what he wanted. Where was Justin when he needed some comfort?
"I don't need to deal with this bullshit now. Of all the times for this shit to start happening."
He was thrown from his loathing when a shadow floated down in front of the window. Adjusting his eyes, he saw Shelly in the arms of a weird looking hybrid that he didn't know. They walked up to the front door, paws interlocked together. Curious, he got up and went to the front door, taking a peek out the peephole.
"Thank you so much for this Nick. I really had a great time," Shelly said with a smile.
"I'm glad that I could be of service my lady," Nick smiled back at her, folding his wings neatly behind his back.
"I never got to see a more beautiful sunset than just now."
"Being there with you, just made it more special for me."
Shelly looked at him before blushing, her tail wagging rapidly behind her.
"I told you I would get you back before the stars appeared," Nick said, watching as the sky got darker.
"Thank you for that. I'm pretty sure my son would've tracked you down if you didn't."
"Your son seems like a great kid."
"He is. He's just going through a very emotional phase right now," Shelly said, looking up at window of Gail's room.
"We all go through those. I hope he pulls through with success."
They stood there on the front step, looking each other in the eyes before Nick took her paw and gave it a kiss.
"I hope to be able to take you out again my lady."
"I eagerly look forward to it."
She inched closer and threw her arms around his neck, giving him a hug, taking in his scent. It sent shivers down her spine as it smelt strong with a hint of some kind of wood mixed in. A murr escaped her as Nick enclosed his wings around them both. She pulled back a little, looking into those lovely yellow eyes before leaning up and kissing him. A moan escaped them both as they tilted their heads, mingling their tongues together. Ryudo raised an eyebrow at the scene before walking back into the living room. After a minute or so, the front door opened and closed, the lock being applied as Shelly walked in.
"Seems like you found somebody," Ryudo said, making Shelly bark in surprise.
"Oh, Ryudo! Goodness, you scared me," Shelly said, getting her heart rate back down.
"So, who's the hybrid you were tongue wrestling with?"
Shelly blushed before shuffling her paws on the carpet.
"His name is Nick. I hope I didn't offend you by bringing him over here?"
"Nonsense," Ryudo chuckled. "As long as you're happy, that's all that matters to me. I hope to meet him one day."
"I'll make sure to bring him by. I'm going to take a shower and head to bed. Have a good night Ryudo."
He watched Shelly go downstairs, her tail wagging happily behind her. Grabbing his drink, he took the rest rapidly before slamming the bottle on the table, hearing a loud crack. With a grunt, he got up and grabbed more, hoping to drown his trouble away.

Blake looked at Ryudo as his head was down on the desk. Every sound made him grunt in anger and hold his head in pain.
"Got drunk last night I take it?"
"What about it?" Ryudo said angrily.
"Whoa, easy man. Don't kill me for being concerned about you."
Ryudo gave a grunt before closing his eyes to stop the throbbing. Elliot walked into the class and placed his bag on the floor next to the desk.
"Alright everybody, it's final time. Come up and get your test. Like I said, this test will make you hate me, but if you did your studying, then you should pass this test in about thirty minutes. Once you are done, you are free to leave."
Everybody got up and took their test before sitting back down. Ryudo couldn't think straight as the words looked jumbled and twisted. Getting up, he said he was going to the bathroom and exited the room. Making it to the bathroom, he went to the sink and splashed some water on his face. He looked at himself in the mirror, noticing the disheveled look and bloodshot eyes. With a growl, he slammed his fist into the mirror as it cracked.
"God dammit," he shouted.
He took a couple of deep breaths, trying to calm himself down. Once he collected himself to a point that was satisfactory, he walked out the bathroom and headed back to class. The other students were scribbling away as he made his way to his desk and sat down. Blake looked at him through the corner of his eye and saw the little bit of blood on his knuckles. Shaking his head, he went back to his test. Ryudo started his test as well, still working on it even as the other students, even Blake finished and left, leaving him alone in the room.
"Almost done there Mr. Peterson?" Elliot asked softly.
"Yeah," Ryudo replied dryly.
After another eight minutes, Ryudo was done as he got up and handed the test to Elliot who looked at him with some concern.
"What's wrong Ryudo? Usually you're more cheerful than this."
"I just have a lot on my mind."
"Understandable. I'm not going to pry into your personal (life, business, stuff). Have a good day and I'll see you for your graduation."
Ryudo nodded before heading out the class and standing in the hallway. Blake was waiting for him, leaning on the wall.
"Are you calm now after fighting with the mirror?"
"Not really."
"Want to talk about it?"
"Not with you."
Blake looked at him in confusion. Normally Ryudo would open up to him no problem.
"Does this have to do with Justin?"
Ryudo grunted before turning his head.
"I don't want to talk about it Blake."
Blake gave a grunt himself before throwing his hands in the air.
"You know what dude, do whatever you want. I'm done with this love triangle you're in. I tried to give you good advice but obviously, you want to do things your way. Don't call me, I'll call you."
Ryudo watched Blake storm down the hall and out the door. He balled his fists tightly in anger. What the hell did he know? He didn't have somebody rip the person he loved away from him. Settling down somewhat, he looked at his watch which read one thirty. Since this was his only final today, he decided to pay a visit to Justin. A smile actually appeared on his face when he thought about that fuzzy muzzle.
"I hope we can go for a walk again today."

"Gail, you haven't left this room all day hun. What's wrong?" Shelly asked, rubbing his back softly.
Gail didn't answer as he sighed softly.
"Hun, please speak to me," Shelly whined, ears folded.
Gail looked at Shelly before sitting up and hugging her.
"Sorry to make you worry mom. But I'm fine now."
"Gail, you are a terrible liar. I'm not leaving here until you speak to me."
Gail folded his ears before laying his head across Shelly's lap, a whine coming from him as she stroked his head lovingly.
"I feel like me and Ryudo are drifting further and further apart these last couple of days."
"Hun, he has a lot on his mind with the finals on him. But I bet once these finals are finished, you and him will be back on the same page."
"You really think so?" Gail asked, directing his gold eyes up at his mom.
"I know so Gail. Just give him his space, let him finish those tests, and everything will go back to normal."
Gail let out a sigh, tail wagging slowly behind him. How he missed waking up with Ryudo's arms wrapped around him. The doorbell chimed softly making Gail's ears perk up.
"That must be Nick and Caroline. You want to come with us for a walk? I'm pretty sure you need to clear your head right now."
Gail thought about it before sitting up and nodding his head.
"I could use some fresh air."
"Good. Grab your collar and lets go Stripy."
This got a chuckle from Gail making Shelly smile. Grabbing his collar, they headed downstairs to the front door where Caroline and Nick were waiting.
"Going to join us today Gail?" Caroline asked, a happy wag to her tail.
"Yeah. I figured a change of scenery would be good for me right now."
"Well, you'll enjoy this scenery. Come on, lets go," Caroline yipped happily, tugging on his arms making him laugh.

"Say that again?" Justin said, looking at Ryudo.
"I want you back. It's not the same without you."
"You know that's not possible Ryudo."
"It can work out. My grandparents and I could trade. They could have Gail and I would get you. It works out perfectly."
Justin let out a growl, showing a little bit of his teeth.
"I think this conversation is done Ryudo. Go home."
"But Justin....."
"Hey Justin, I could use a hand over here," Terry said, watching the people come up to look at the stuff he had at his garage sale.
"Coming sir," Justin said, turning away from Ryudo.
"Justin, wait a minute," Ryudo said, grabbing his arm.
"Ryudo, I need to....."
"Don't you love me?"
"Of course I love you."
"Then why don't you want to be with me? I have my own house. Nobody will bother us anymore. It'll just be the two of us, like it always should've been."
Justin sighed before shaking his head.
"Ryudo, I loved the time we spent together. You made me the happiest hybrid ever. But you have another hybrid now. One with a good heart and needs you. And I have another owner. Please don't make this any harder on yourself."
"You were taken away from me by my idiot parents. They can't do it again. I won't let them."
"Ryudo..."
"Don't you see Justin? You complete me. My heart belongs with you. And I know you feel the same way."
Justin's emerald green eyes looked at Ryudo before looking away.
"I want you to be by my side for the rest of my life. If I could marry you, I wouldn't hesitate to do it," Ryudo said with firmness.
Justin was about to respond when Terry spoke up again.
"Justin, where......"
"Will you shut the fuck up. I'm talking to him over here," Ryudo shouted at Terry making everybody look at him.
Justin folded his ears tightly, tail between his legs.
"Go home Ryudo. I don't want to see you again until your graduation. Once that happens, we will part ways. Don't come back here."
"You don't mean that do you?"
Justin pulled his arm away roughly before hurrying over to Terry, bowing his head and saying he was sorry for causing a scene. Ryudo watched him walk away, his heart shattering in the process. Justin didn't even look his way as he showed off the stuff Terry was showing. Balling his fists, Ryudo stormed back to his car, slamming the door shut and speeding away, Justin watching with a whine.
He made his way back home, stopping by the liquor store as he slammed the front door. He sat in the living room, eyes burning with anger before opening one of the many Mudslides by his side.

"Thank you so much for this walk Caroline. I really needed it," Gail said with a smile, his tail wagging happily.
"I'm glad you came with us. You needed to get out that house," Caroline said happily.
Gail looked behind him to see his mom and Nick holding hands and chuckling together. His dry mood was lifted after the walk, getting a chance to clear his head. He finally decided to sit down and talk with Ryudo. The sun was setting as the sky showed a beautiful display of orange and red. They made it back to Ryudo's house as Gail walked up to the front door.
"I'll see you later Gail. I need to head back," Caroline said, giving him a hug.
"Thanks for the walk Caroline."
"Anytime," Caroline replied, walking back down the street.
"Me and Nick are going to head to the backyard and enjoy the rest of the night," Shelly said, heading to the backyard with Nick.
Gail watched them leave before entering the house. The first thing that hit his nose was the strong smell of alcohol. It overpowered his senses making his eyes water. Walking further in, he saw Ryudo slumped down in the couch. Tons of bottles were laying about, some dripping what was left inside onto the carpet below.
"Ryudo? Are you.....okay?" Gail asked nervously.
"I'm the picture of perfect fucking health," Ryudo said angrily making Gail flinch.
"Do you think we could.......talk?"
"The only person I want to talk to, has rejected me," Ryudo said with a sneer.
"I'm.....sorry to hear that."
Ryudo laughed before getting up on very wobbly legs and stumbled over to Gail.
"What the hell do you have to be sorry about?"
Gail let out a whine, stepping back as the smell of alcohol was ten times stronger coming off of Ryudo.
"If it wasn't for my fucking parents, I'd still have Justin with me. But no, all they cared about was their fucking reputation. I didn't even want another hybrid but they forced me to get one."
"What...are you saying?" Gail said softly, his golden eyes getting misty.
"I never wanted you!!"
"But....you said you......loved me," Gail whined, tears flowing freely down his face.
"I said that because I just got off. You can't replace Justin. No one can!"
Those words cut him deeply. Not even the beatings at the farm could compare to those hurtful words.
"Very well," Gail said, lifting his hands up and pulling the collar off before dropping it to the floor. "Since you never wanted me, I'll go back to the farm."
He walked to the front door and opened it before looking back at Ryudo.
"Even though you didn't mean it, I meant every word I said to you that night. I love you Ryudo. Goodbye, and I hope everything works out between you and Justin."
With that said, he closed the door softly, letting out a choked sob before running away. He didn't care where he went, he just wanted to be away from that house and Ryudo. Ryudo stood there, letting those words that Gail said sink into his alcohol soaked brain. He loved him. He loved him and this is how he repaid that love. Realization hit him like a truck as he looked at the collar on the floor, then at the door.
"Oh god, what have I done!?"
He rushed to the door and burst through it, looking left and right for Gail.
"GAIL!!!" he shouted. "GAIL, WHERE ARE YOU!!!?"
Shelly and Nick, hearing the screams, rushed to the front.
"What happened?" Shelly asked in a panic.
"Gail ran away!"
"HE WHAT?" Shelly barked.
"It was my fault. I caused it," Ryudo said angrily, holding Gail's collar tightly.
"I'll look for him in the air as best as I can," Nick said, taking to the air quickly.
Shelly looked at Ryudo, anger coming into her eyes.
"How could you do that to Gail? He gave you his heart and you stepped on it. I thought you were different than other humans, but it seems you are all the same. If anything happens to him, I'll never forgive you."
She gave him a hard slap as he hit the grass, his right cheek stinging. He deserved that. He deserves everything that happens to him. He didn't he bother to move as the distant sound of thunder rumbled in the air, raindrops following soon afterwords.
