Told from the point of view from a wizard's apprentice, Kurtis Arcane. Kurtis is sent off to slay a dragon for a test of manhood yet he finds himself smitten with the lonely beast he encounters.

I couldn't believe it, I just couldn't. The council of Piedmont Kingdom wanted me, Kurtis Arcane to slay a dragon. Me, a weak, nerdy wizard apprentice instead of a large, muscular, intimidating knight. Ridiculous. Test of manhood? Yeah right, more like a suicide mission. Even so, I still trekked to the nearest cave and waited outside the entrance. Blisters covered my feet from the long and grueling hike so I wasn't in the mood for much walking.

Upon entering the cave, I heard a symphony of heartbroken sobs echo off the walls. It was enough to make my blood freeze yet I still walked about a mile until I finally found the source of the cries. Before me stood a medium sized dragon only abput 7 feet tall with scales as white as snow and pastel pink wings. She was standing in front of a crystal clear, steaming pool and her pale blue eyes were filled to the brim with tears. The dragon ignored me and continued to weep, large, steaming hot tears rolling down her long snout and dripping off the rims of her nostrils into the pool as she hung her head.

Slowly, I approached the tearful dragon and placed my hand on her shoulder. She was way too cute to slay. Clearing my throat, I spoke up, "Who are you and why are you crying?"

The dragon abruptly spun around and wiped her eyes with her claws, "Oh! I didn't even notice you sneak up on me." She forced a nervous chuckle, "M-my name's Torchlight but you can just call me Torch. Usually, I don't get many guests around here. By the way, whyare you here?"

"Well, the Council Of Piedmont Kingdom wants me to slay a dragon for some stupid test of manhood. I came here so they'd finally get off my case about it but now that I've met you, I seriously doubt I'll be slaying you anytime soon. You're just way too cute to harm." I replied, "By the way, my name is Kurtis. So you're name's Torch, huh? Nice name for a dragon." I shook Torch's claw.

Torch smiled back at me, "I'm so relieved you aren't going to kill me then. You see, I'm just a lonely dragon who means no harm to anyone."

"I'm a wizard's apprentice." I replied, "By the way, I noticed you've got some unusual blue eyes for a dragon. Just what sort of dragon are you? I've never seen anything like you in any bestiary."

"Oh, I'm an albino dragon so I normally hunt at night." Torch replied, "My eyes are super sensitive to sunlight so I tend to be pretty nocturnal."

"I think those blue eyes of yoyrs are very beautiful, much prettier than that of any human woman." I replied, stroking Torch's long snout with my hand.

Torch just chuckled a bit, a blush forming on her snow white snout, "Oh stop, Kurtis, you're making me blush."

I chuckled a bit myself but then my laughter died down as I remembered Torch's tears, "By the way, why were you crying earlier?"

Torch sighed and hung her head, "Just a few days ago, I lost my own mother to hunters. Th...they hunted her for s-s-sport. I...I know because they left her body...they...d-didn't take any m-m-meat...they..."

Abruptly, Torch burst out sobbing and I walked forward, wrapping my arms around her and letting her bury her face in my neck. I could feel hot dragon tears running down the bare skin of my neck as Torch nuzzled me. I could sympathize with the beast, having lost my own mother.

After a few good minutes of crying, Torch pulled away and looked at me, rivers of tears still streaming down her snout, "I just miss her so much." She whimpered.

The next thing I did would surprise both Torch and myself. I leaned forward and ran my tongue from the tip of Torch's snout to the corners of her eyes, licking the tears that were streaming down her snout. Compulsively, I licked every last tear from Torch's snout. The tears were as warm as hot spring water and tasted like a mix of caramel and pretzel salt. I savored every last drop on my tongue.

When I was finished licking, Torch blinked a few times in confusion and blushed, "So uh...why did you just lick my tears?"

I smiled at the dragon, blushing myself, "Well, when most men see a dragon cry, they keep their distance. A brave few would be bold enough to wipe a dragon's tears. Me? I guess I'm in a class of my own. Licking a dragon's tears more than makes up for me not slaying you. I'll be acing that manhood test for sure!"

Torch chuckled a bit, "I guess that's so. You've got a pretty good point there, Kurtis."

I smiled back at Torch, petting her on her head, "Speaking of dragon tears, don't your tears have any healing powers, Torch? I mean, I've read books on dragons that say their tears have healing properties."

"I think so." Torch nodded, "Sometimes, I get injured when I go out and hunt and when I return, the first thing I do is bathe in that pool of my own tears. It's kind of like my own private spa. Even so, the healing powers of my tears aren't strong enough to revive my dead mother."

I frowned and continued to pet the dragon, "If it's all right with you, I'd like to bathe in your pool, I'm pretty hot and sweaty, plus I've got these blisters on my feet that are killing me."

"Go right ahead!" Torch grinned, "Like I said, company is pretty rare so just make yourself right at home."

I responded by giving Torch a big hug and stripping off my shirt, shoes and shorts. Now clad in my underwear, I walked over to the pool of dragon tears and took a dip in it. Torch's tears felt so warm and soothing and relaxing that I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of content. I smiled at Torch through half-lidded eyes, "So Torch, how long did it take for you to cry this pool?"

"Oh, I started it long before my mother passed away. I was often bullied by other dragons because of my albinism so I'd cry a lot. Upon learning that my tears had healing powers, I decided to cry my own personal pool whenever I felt like crying." Torch smiled at me.

"You're a pretty smart dragon, Torch." I replied, "Pretty clever to cry your own healing spring."

"Thanks." Torch blushed, "My mom always told me I was smarter than the average dragon."

I gave the dragon a warm smile, now submerged to my chest in the pool of her hot, soothing tears. Shutting my eyes, I could feel my blisters healing almost immediately, "You weren't lying about this being a healing spring, Torch."

Torch smiled at me and joined me in the crystal clear pool. I draped my arm around her and gazed deep into her breathtaking blue eyes. There was a long silence before the dragon spoke, "Can I please ask you for a favor, Kurtis?"

"What?" I asked, rubbing the back of Torch's neck.

"Please promise me that you'll spend a day with me. I get awfully lonely in this cave all by myself." Torch sighed.

I petted Torch, "Of course, I'll stay with you. You seem awfully cuddly for a dragon."

"Thanks, Kurtis. Thank you so much. You have no idea how much this means to me." A large tear of joy rolled down Torch's muzzle and came to a rest at the end of her snout, hanging on the rim of her left nostril.

I leaned forward and licked the tear off Torch's nose with my tongue before it had a chance to plop into the pool, "No problem, Torch. It'll be interesting having a sleepover with a dragon."

Torch blushed for the umpteenth time in response to having her tear licked from her long snout, "And in the morning, I can fly you back to your kingdom so you can tell everyone about your encounter with me."

"Yeah, just because you're a dragon doesn't mean you deserve to be slain. Anything as adorable as you deserves the best." I said, hugging Torch even closer to me and planting a kiss on her beautiful snout.

Torch responded to my touch by licking my cheek, "You sure know how to flatter someone, Kurtis." She nuzzled me, causing me to laugh.

For a good two hours, Torch and I chatted as we relaxed in the pool of Torch's tears. As the sun rose, Torch let out a loud yawn and got out of the pool. Exhausted as well, I joined her and she curled up like a dog to sleep. I snuggled up to her, using her like a warm pillow, "Good morning, Torch."

But there was no reply, she was off in dreamland. I tenderly kissed her on her snout, "Well in that case, see you this evening." I chuckled and snuggled with her, falling asleep together in the cave.

The end.
