The Witches' Ball
Part 2
By Lonelyrider
Savera & James are having a lovely evening at the Witches' Ball, but a jealous schoolmate has other ideas while watching the pretty teen harpy with James.
James gasped hard beholding his pretty teenaged friend as she opened the door, her hand went to her bosom in the same reaction seeing him in his handsome new suit ensemble.
"Savera...my, you look simply enchanting! It is my highest honor to be your escort tonight." James gave her hand a gentle, bashful peck with a gallant bow, extending his huge wings, but only partially as he was almost too massive to fit in their doorway. As usual, the eldest of Savera's guardian sisters was easy-going, while the youngest looked somewhat peeved.
"Oh my Jamesy, you look simply dashing! Morgana, are you really going to let me go?" Savera teased with a wistful sigh.
"Come girl, let me finish braiding ribbon into your red locks."
James sat down patiently on a little stool as the crones finished readying his young friend.
"James, have her home by 10." The youngest naga witch ordered.
"Oh yes ma'am." James nodded quickly, in his usual sweet demeanor.
"Yes, 10." The middle sister agreed, helping Morgana, who sighed.
"Sisters, it's young Savera's first ball, she's 18 and excited. Savera, be back by midnight, please."
Savera looked thrilled.
"Really, Morgana?"
"That's too late! She'll get ideas!" The young two naga sisters piped.
"Won't you?" They shot at James, who shook his head fast, big hands up.
"Oh no your witchy-nesses, no ideas, I swear! She'll be very safe with my driver and I, I can assure you!"
"Easy for you to say, son of Abaddon LightningSword." The youngest muttered, Savera was too polite to chastise her but she did make an upset face; James inhaled hard but bit his lip politely.
"Now sisters, that's enough! There's no need to insult her friend's bloodline, the man isn't even here to defend himself. If I didn't trust James, she wouldn't be allowed to go with him. He's always been nothing but a perfect gentleman to our pupil, in fact, if you recall, he's why we know her. James, my apologies for my sisters." Morgana said, finishing off Savera's beautiful twin braids intwined with blue ribbons.
"Well, one would think a witch of your stature would know his father's reputation." The middle naga hissed lowly.
"That's enough! I do know him, and he I. You're being disrespectful, apologize to James at once, or I'll turn you into adders for the rest of the day, you know I can!" Morgana snarled, literally showing sharp naga fangs at her sisters. They didn't, but they stopped their commentary. "James...forgive them, too much female gossip," The sisters scoffed and went outside angrily, "Here you are, have a grand time, you two. I'll be waiting for you at midnight, dear." Morgana touched Savera's cheek in a motherly way and she hugged her.
"Will they be okay? Oh thank you, and thank you for trusting me to stay out later! I promise to be back on time."
"They will get over it, child. Now, go."
"Madam Morgana, I give you my word she'll be returned safe and happy at precisely midnight. Thank you for allowing me to accompany your beautiful daughter. Have a blessed night!" James borrowed an expression he'd learned from Lonely and Morgana waved at them, her other two sisters pouting, as James opened the carriage door for Savera and joined her inside and Alfred started the coach moving with James' two sturdy stallions in the harness in front. James smiled kindly at his teen friend as they bounced along inside the elegant carriage, the curtains were drawn and James carefully poured Savera some tea.
"Oh, thank you! Is that a new suit, James? It fits you perfectly." Savera said, through sips of her delicious Indian tea. James blushed and partially hid his groomed face with a shy grin behind his ebony wing, and rubbed his thick hair.
"Aww shucks...I'm...so pleased you like it, and honored to be here! Ahh um yes, why yes, my servant Luke had a tailor make it for me, cape, hat and all! My...but just look at you...oh, oh listen to me, I sound like a horny old man, my..." he started to stutter an apology but she shook her head, blushing too.
"No, thank you, I'm pleased you like my dress. The sisters made it, a nice big puffy orange gown, this bow choker, and oh yes, gloves in my seashell clutch."
"Oh my, now this is beautiful! Lonely would love this too, wow, look at that." James admired Savera's big pearlescent clutch adorned with huge shells and pearls, its chain also studded with pearls and gems.
"I agree, it'd look nice with her outfits too. I'll ask Morgana to help me make another one for Lonely, hmm, maybe a pale pink for her? What do you think?"
"Oh, how she'd love that." James sighed dreamily, he took out a picture of Lonely, shyly scooting closer to his beautiful teen date to show her the smiling animated portrait in his little magic mirror, he wiped a tear.
"Forgive me...I miss her so."
"Here you are....oh, you poor thing. Has she seen your new mansion yet?" Savera asked in comfort, giving him her hankerchief.
"Not yet, I can't wait to show her, you as well, and Nat if she ever comes back already! Hah, I jest, I just miss her." James wiped his eyes frantically, embarrassed he was crying. "God, my dad would wipe the floor with me if he saw this, I apologize, my dear." He said.
"Please don't, I think it's lovely that you're kind and sensitive. I don't understand why Natalie doesn't just talk to you James, you've been good to her."
"Thanks." He sniffled, still frantically wiping his tears, he excused himself and blew his nose and she rubbed his broad upper back gently. The carriage drew to a stop and Alfred opened the door, revealing a decorated grand manor nestled amid beautiful gardens.
"Welcome." Alfred said, he took Savera's hand as she gently stepped out, James tossed his servant a coin and he hopped back atop the driver's seat and went ahead, taking James' stallions into town to rest and eat like he'd promised. James smiled sweetly at Savera and offered her his enormous arm, she smiled back and hooked her own arm in it, and they carefully made their way inside by the food and drink tables, James towering over Savera, who herself was fairly tall for a female.
"Punch, milady?" James asked politely, Savera curtsied sweetly.
"Yes please, thank you! Tea sandwiches, James?"
"Ahh yes, please!"
James and Savera were munching and drinking happily by the elegant punch fountain, unaware that they were being watched by a small group of older teen boys.
"Who is that by Savera?" One of them asked in a hiss.
"That's James LightningSword, he's not a warlock, perse, but his father is, a very powerful one at that. I've heard rumor he does have spellcaster blood though, lightning, evidently is his specialty. Mostly though, he's a tanker in the arena."
"Is that why he's the size of a half-ogre?" The eldest boy laughed, his nose twisted, the other boys all snickered.
"What I'm saying, Ryan, is that you should find another girl at the ball, it isn't worth it." The informed boy replied.
"No, I've made up my mind." Ryan pooed, and the boys slunk away. A lovely harp and violin piece was being played, James and Savera each looked at one another, evidently having the same idea.
"Dance?" They both said at once, and then chortled, he bowed gracefully to her & she lifted her dress in a deep curtsy, and the two took to the dancefloor amid the many witches and warlocks there, carefully, James joined her in a gentle slow waltz, whirling her around the dancefloor and holding onto her with his big steadying hand, he even lifted and spun her a little and she giggled. Seeing she liked it, he smirked and lifted her higher, she spread her orange harpy wings and flew for a moment, using them to slow her fall as he caught her, he unfurled his own wingspan and they danced in the air, hovering above the others and whirling about in an elegant waltz.
"Show offs!" Ryan cried, but no one heard him over the music. James and Savera enjoyed a few dances and more refreshments, before finally retiring to the quiet and mostly empty rose garden in front of the manor, Savera took to a graceful swing and James watched her looking rather smitten atop a carved stone bench.
"Oh, let me see, I recognize some of my classmates from witch school, usually my mothers homeschool me, but twice a week I attend, mostly for socializing, Morgana said. That's Jake, his father is a warlock, Sue, she's probably the smartest witch in my class, that's Tom, Gary, Melissa and Gabby...hmm, ahh yes, Ryan. There's a rumor going around Ryan has some strange thing for me, but truthfully, I don't believe any of it." Savera confided, swinging gently. James shifted his body.
"Really, now? How do you feel about him?" James asked; he blushed hard at the unexpected jealousy that edged his voice when he said that, despite his pure kind tone and good intent. Savera only smiled sweetly at him; secretly, she'd very much enjoyed his accidental giveaway.
"He's ok I guess, but he's so boyish, James! Always pranking people and not paying attention. Besides, I don't even believe that silly rumor." Savera giggled and James chuckled deeply, he didn't mean to ogle her, but he was. The two shared fond smiles that were interrupted by shaking rose bushes and a boy's voice mumbling in pain.
"Stupid flowers! Savera, ahh, yes, Savera. A dance, please?" Ryan begged, bowing in an overdramatic way; he was a handsome youth, if still growing. Savera scruntched her face in thought, she could see James' lips smiling at her rather tenderly.
"Okay, but just 1 though!" She agreed.
"Let's go inside." Ryan insisted.
"No, out here in the garden, please." Savera protested softly. James watched the boy intently, shifting his wings, still sat on the bench; he stretched his huge burly arms over his head and then relaxed.
"But you danced with him inside!" Ryan whined at her.
"Excuse me, but she told you no." James said much more firmly then he normally would; his jealousy aside, he didn't like the boy's tone toward his best friend.
"Oh, buzz off, LightningSword! Why did you come to the ball with an old guy anyway, Savera? His dick is probably wrinkled." Ryan made a face again. James also made a funny face and Savera gave Ryan a light shove.
"Really, Ryan? Don't talk about him like that, he's my best friend. Just...ugh, nevermind, I'm sorry, but I don't want to dance, I think you should go now."
"Savera!" Ryan whined louder. James stood up, the smaller swords he'd worn for the ball clanking, his expression serious, carefully he came up behind her, laying a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"Go on, Ryan! This is what I get for humoring you, oh, please go, will you? There's plenty of girls here who will be delighted to dance with you." Savera shooed with her hand; she'd wanted to be polite, but he'd blown his chance when he'd insulted James.
"Fine! I was only feeling sorry for you, you're ugly anyway." Ryan squealed in a childish voice. He heard thumping and Savera's voice cry out James' name, and felt a huge hand on his shoulder that turned him around, when he did, the biggest, hairiest fist he'd ever seen punched him in the face so hard he flew into the fountain in the center of the garden with such force that he cracked it. Ryan wheezed from shock and the water and was dazed, above him he saw a big figure with black wings leaping onto him and felt someone grab his collar and start to pummel him senseless. In the broken fountain, the water was running red with the boy's blood.
"Alfred!" Alfred looked up from his novel reading atop James' carriage driver's seat to see Savera running towards him, she tripped in her gown and shoes and took them off, out of breath, she grabbed the coach man's arm desperately.
"Alfred, please help, it's James, Ryan, s...s...sorry, one of the boys here, insulted me and he saw red, he.."
Alfred gasped and pulled Savera onto the carriage, shaking the reins hard and steering the horses at a gallop to the garden entrance.
"You don't need to say anymore girl, I've heard the stories about the male LightningSword temper. No, stay there!" Alfred pushed back against Savera and she covered her face and rocked, feeling intensely guilty as Alfred rushed off. When Alfred arrived, 6 men were trying and failing to pull an enraged James off the unconscious Ryan, who was floating like a dead thing in the now bloody and broken fountain.
"Get off him, he's had enough, he's not even awake, stop it man, you need to calm down!" One of the few adult chaprones screamed into James' ear, he was still hot with battle lust and couldn't seem to stop himself, he struggled against them, flailing the smaller men around like rags as they tried to hold him. Alfred grabbed James' beefy arm.
"James....come on now, the boy's out, breathe through it...that's it, in...out....slower...deeper....slow....slow. Look at my watch." Alfred hypnotized James using his pocket watch which amazingly worked, and managed to coax him into the carriage, where Alfred slipped a strong gypsy potion into James' tea and locked him inside, joining Savera on top and shaking the reins hard.
"Hyah!"
"Is he all right?" She gasped, getting thrown around beside Alfred on the narrow driver's seat as they rode fast.
"James is fine, physcially. I gave him something to knock him out, you stay up here with me, I doubt he'd hurt you but he was out of it with rage. I'm more concerned what the boy's father will do when he gets word of this." Alfred told Savera over the din of the rocking carriage and gallopping horses.
"Oh, this is all my fault, I should've just danced with Ryan, that was all he wanted!"
"It isn't, girl. This ain't the first time your big friend's gone crazy like this, and it won't be the last. It's great defending women's honor and all that, but he takes it too far. He's a hothead, when he's not his usual friendly puppy dog self. He gets it from that father of his." Alfred shook his head and the reins again, they braced as they hit a rock and kept going.
"Can I help?" Savera asked worriedly.
"No milady, he's got to take care of this on his own. It ain't your doing, girl. Ain't your fixing, either. We're almost to your home, got you back early. Don't worry, I'll see to it James is cared for." Savera nodded sadly and went inside, with one last worried look, Morgana joining her and asking why she was early kindly as Alfred took the carriage with his now passed out master back to his mansion at a swift pace.
