A Pet's Life

Tired of living on Earth, with a deadend job being his future at best, Eric decides that there's only option: space. However, the path there is not what he imagined, and he might need to bargain more than he intended if he really wants his dream to come true...

Started this draft like... 6 months ago, and at last it's finally done.

In fact, it's been so long that I no longer remember where I got the idea for this story (though, thankfully, I did remember what I wanted to tell).

The first thing that Eric saw when he woke up was the same as the last thing he had seen when he left Earth.

Paws.

The plump, black pads pressed against the grate in front of him. Beads of water formed around toes and pads before unceremoniously dropping on his face. Whether it was sweat or just the ice starting to melt, he did not know. However, no matter how thirsty the cryogenic sleep had made him, he’d keep his mouth shut. He would retain his dignity, or as much dignity as a naked human stowed in a small compartment under some random stranger’s feet could muster.

A small movement on the corner of his eyes caught his attention. Next to him lay a thick combat boot. Following his gaze up the armor, there was no way to tell the species of its occupant, but if the elongated muzzle was any indication, it had to be an Anthro.

“Chief Engineer Sayne Adams, correct?”

The hyena on top of Eric groaned. “Yes, that’s me.”

“Sir!” The soldier saluted, and a couple more pairs of boots arrived to help the hyena get out of the pod, leading him down the corridor.

Eric rolled over to his side and crawled out from the pod, but just as he tried to stand up, one of the soldiers hit him directly on the stomach. Recoiling from the pain, Eric knelt down and held his stomach as the cold barrel of a rife pushed his head down. He knew what was expected of him, so he got on all fours, and a swift kick on his ass later, he started to crawl. Two soldiers flanked him, and one more walked behind him, ensuring his march was apace and he was always facing down the floor.

Meanwhile, the hyena was getting covered in a blanket and getting debriefed on the ship’s situation.

“Stay.”

Eric stopped fidgeting. Easy for him to say. For the last couple hours, he had been sitting on the cold infirmary floor while the hyena lay comfortable on the gurney, food supplement on hand. The hyena crossed his legs, the sole of his left paw now hovering right next to the human’s head. While still trying to obey the command, Eric tried his best to sneak peeks at the hyena.

The hyena was completely naked, a blank look on his face as he sucked dry the packet in his hand. He had an athletic build, and following the trail down, Eric could see glances of the hyena’s sheath from behind the raised paw. Eric fidgeted again at the sight. Guess he would have to get used to it if they were going to live together from now on?

Sensing the human’s gaze, but not exactly the direction, the hyena lowered the supplement to offer it. Eric looked at the hyena, but the latter seemed to barely be paying any attention to him. He slowly reached out for the packet and grabbed it; there were teeth marks around the opening and traces of saliva all around it, a slight fruity smell mixing with the overall musky, wet dog scent that permeated the air.

Eric hesitated about putting the supplement on his mouth. He was so hungry, but—

A chimp in a lab coat approached them. “You must be…” She checked the tablet in her hands. “Mr. Sayne Adams?” The hyena nodded, and she made a check mark on her tablet. “Are you by yourself, Mr. Adams?”

The hyena shook his head. “No, or rather, only I was awakened. There’s three of us: me, my husband, and our son.” Sayne then quickly glanced at the human next to him. “And, well, you know...”

The chimp leaned down to pet the human’s head. “And you are…?”

Eric opened his mouth, but before he could utter anything, the hyena answered for him.

“Eric.”

“Oh, I see.” The chimp went back to her tablet. Eric Adams, she muttered as she wrote down the name. She then straightened herself before addressing the hyena again, “I assume all the paperwork’s in order?”

The hyena nodded, and the pair continued to talk as Eric sighed.

Of course she had been talking about him. Not with him. But what else did he expect? He knew full well that this was how it was all going to be when he decided to become the hyena’s pet…

The year was 2302. Earth’s natural resources had dwindled long ago, but corporations still managed to somehow find a way to provide them. This, however, meant that while the rich only got richer, everyone else was left to fend for whatever scraps they could get. No matter how much you tried, there was no way out. No way to succeed, and yet Eric set his sights high. Tired of a life in the city slums, there was only one choice.

Space.

The outworld colonization project offered an opportunity like no other. Leave the planet and help establish a colony somewhere else, and you would be set for life. Sure, it was also a sort of death sentence because, while the trek itself could be dangerous, the technology just was not there to ensure a trip back. Even if everything went well, the outworlders would be lost forever to their mission, but at the very least, their descendants would one day get to claim the rewards.

And Eric was okay with that.

He tried his hardest and graduated the best of his class, easily beating any of those snot-nosed kids that only managed to get as far as they did because of their connections. After getting his diploma, Eric was sure that he had his future secured, but moving on to the real world, he found that things were not as they had been promised.

“Anyone can become an outworlder,” the ads said. Lies, or rather, a huge exaggeration.

With everyone wanting to leave this dying Earth, the companies in charge started to get more and more strict on who would be allowed. Suddenly, being at the top of your class, or coming from a prestigious school, meant nothing. Eric’s efforts had only guaranteed him a badly paid clerical job on Earth.

Eric despaired for half a year after graduation, his family and friends telling him to just get on the waitlist. Maybe one day he could leave Earth? You know, if he still wanted to by then, and if he was still healthy enough to make the trip. But maybe was not enough for him.

All this time, all this effort, and all for nothing.

That is until one fateful day…

Eric was at the bar like usual, trying to drown his pain away when a familiar voice boomed through the building.

“It cannot be. Is that you, Eric?”

Eric turned around. Standing at the entrance was none other than Mong, a former classmate from college. The white tiger was wearing a suit with the Carter-Stehr logo emblazoned over his chest pocket, and he was accompanied by several anthros wearing the same clothing. Mong had always been on the lower side of the curve when it came to classes, and Eric was sure he only graduated because his father was one of the school’s top donors.

The tiger approached, reclining on the bar stool next to Eric while his entourage flanked him through the other side. “Fancy meeting you here. How you’ve been? Haven’t seen you since graduation.” Eric just drank from his glass, he did not feel like being the tiger’s butt-monkey. “Me? I’ve been doing pretty good, thanks for asking. You know, rising over the ranks, possibly becoming a partner soon.” The tiger’s friends giggled from the sides, while Mong sized the human up. “And what about you, Eric? Surely someone as ‘smart’ as you has to be doing well. Tell me, do you have your own business now or…”

“We both know you only got hired because your father owns the company.”

The room fell silent. Eric kept his sight on the tiger, but from the corner of his eye, he could see that one of his companions was starting to get agitated. Mong raised one hand, and his companion calmed down. “Maybe you’re right, Eric, but guess what? I still got a nice, cushy job with lots of growth opportunities. I have connections and look at me now. Meanwhile you, well, I think everyone can see where your ‘smarts’ got you.”

The tiger’s entourage started to cheer. It reminded Eric of their time back at college, when the tiger did not miss any opportunity to flaunt his family’s name and power to put Eric and everyone else “on their place”. Beneath him.

“But tell you what, Eric. I like you, how about if we make a deal?” Mong smiled. “I could make you my assistant. It’ll be easy, just take my calls for me, follow me around, rub my paws, and always be ready to fulfill any other order I give you. My own little pet.” One of the tiger’s paws caressed Eric’s thighs. “You were always a smart guy, Eric, I’m sure—”

Mong would never get to finish his sentence, as Eric grabbed his bottle and smashed it against the tiger’s head. Before anyone could react, the human ran out of the bar, followed closely by the gang of anthros. Eric ran from one alley to another, throughout stores, shoving people aside, until at last he managed to lose them. And now, being able to catch his breath, he sighed. He didn’t want to admit it, but maybe the tiger was right.

Maybe, the solution to all his problems was to become someone else’s pet…

Due to the demands of the outworld project, both during the trip and colonization, only essential personnel was allowed to leave. This meant that menial stuff, such as companion animals, would have to be left behind as they were considered a waste of resources. However, as years went by, the companies in charge realized that asking people to leave everything behind was maybe too much, and a compromise was reached.

“Pets” would at last be allowed to go, but it would not be any kind of pet. It would have to be a person, someone that would be able to contribute to the mission in one way or another. Of course, only the richest or most important personnel would be able to afford the process required to both register someone as a pet and bring them in, but this meant that the promises of “anyone” being able to go, were finally true. All that was required in exchange was but a few years of servitude.

And that’s how Eric met Sayne Adams.

Knowing that this was his only realistic chance at getting to space, Eric enrolled as a pet. He didn’t tell his family or friends, as he knew they would be opposed to the idea. Saying that someone with his grades would be able afford a modest life on Earth, but that was not what Eric wanted. Moreover, with the Carter-Stehr goons looking over for him, he didn’t have much future on the planet anyway.

Eric tried at first to find a human family that would take him, but he soon realized that it was extremely uncommon for people to get a pet of their own species. So, he started looking at any anthro families that would embark soon. After looking for a while, he found the perfect family.

The Adams were more than impressed with Eric’s credentials, wondering in hushed tones why someone like him would be interested in becoming a pet, but in the end, it didn’t matter. And thus, the Adams started the paperwork to make Eric part of their family.

Ten years. Ten years of being the Adams’ pet, toy, servant, or whatever else they wanted.

Ten years, and he’d be free.

After the paperwork done, he was theirs, and not a moment too soon as they were to embark a couple days later. Eric put his ailing mother as the recipient for compensation as part of him becoming a pet and accompanied the family to the ship. As the rest of the family entered their deep sleep, Sayne, the family’s patriarch, and Eric walked to what would be their future pod. Unlike the rest, it had a small compartment at the bottom, a place for Eric to stay during the trip. The pair took off their clothes and entered. The last thing that Eric would see before getting frozen being the bottom of his new owner’s paws.

And the only thing he’d get to see for the next thirty years, even if he did not fully remember it.

After ensuring that both master and pet were no longer feeling any aftereffects, the chimp returned with a few articles of clothing. Sayne raised his leg, putting his paw way above his pet’s head, but when he didn’t seem to get the hint, the hyena threw the suit at him.

Eric grabbed the white latex and then stared at the bottom of the footpaw. Guess getting his owner ready for the day was going to be one of his tasks? He slid the jumpsuit leg-by-leg and slowly made his way up. Once he was at the hips, the hyena helped him pull the suit over his buttocks, Eric still being the one in charge of ensuring the hyena’s tail did not get stuck. He then tried to pull the suit further up, but something was holding it back.

He looked at the front. The pouch of the suit was stuck on the hyena’s sheath. His master stared at him. Surely the hyena could do something about it himself? Though even if he could, Eric knew that it was his job to do so. Blushing, he grabbed the hyena’s package, pressing it in as he slid the suit over. After ensuring everything was… comfortable, he was able to finish with the rest of it. The suit whirred as it fit itself to the hyena’s physique, turning into a tight fit that left little to the imagination. Eric thought that his job was done, but then the hyena pointed at the gloves and shoes on the table.

Sayne lay down on the gurney and rested his head on his handpaws as he lifted one footpaw and planted it on his pet’s chest. This time, the human quickly understood what he had to do and slid the boots on. The hyena then stood up and presented one handpaw, the human putting the gloves on. Sayne smiled and pet his human, each time pressing harder and harder until the pet realized that, now that his duty was done, he was back to sitting at his master’s feet until further instructions.

The chimp returned. “Okay, Mr. Adams, you’re almost ready to go.”

“What about—” Eric started, but the chimp put one finger on his lips.

“Outside of your bi-monthly checkups, pets are not allowed to talk aboard the Shenzi. Protocol.”

Eric shut up and looked down. Sayne sighed. Even though he already knew the answer, he still asked for his pet’s sake. “What about him? Is he supposed to walk around naked?”

“Oh no, of course not!” The chimp said, “We’re just waiting for security to come help us prep him up.”

Prep me up?

As if on cue, two soldiers arrived. The bigger one of them grabbed Eric and lifted him onto the gurney as the hyena moved away. Eric tried to look back, but the big soldier held his head and forced him to look down as the other one fiddled with something behind him. A sharp pain burned the back of Eric’s head, followed by a short click as something enveloped his neck.

“Ouch, that—”

A short burst of electricity coursed through Eric’s body. After it was over, the chimp ran her fingers through Eric’s head. “Oh, you poor thing. Didn’t you tell him?”

The hyena shrugged. “I thought he knew.”

And how was he supposed to know? Ever since they had arrived at the clinic, they had been sitting in silence, save for the occasional command from the hyena or when he needed to answer an orderly. The chimp continued to pet Eric’s head. He appreciated the sentiment, but being treated like a pet was demeaning. Even if he was legally one.

Even if it had been his choice…

“This is a neuro collar.” The chimp said. She was facing the hyena as she spoke, but Eric could tell that she was more so addressing him with this explanation. “It’s connected to the pet’s spine, and functions as both a location and correction device. It has the capability to restrain any of the pet’s movements or limit their range, and if the pet were to attempt to disobey a command, well, you’ve seen what happens.”

The chimp then pulled out a remote and clicked on a few buttons under the hyena’s watchful gaze, and Eric froze up. The “restraining option”, she had explained. Being unable to move his body himself, the two soldiers manhandled him as they put him on his back. They then took out a small box with a large tube attached at the end of it. It almost looked like…

Eric’s eyes went wide. He tried to shout, but the collar sent a new wave of electricity which muffled anything he wanted to say. Meanwhile, the small soldier parted the human’s legs and inserted his testicles on the box, while the bigger one grabbed hold of the human’s dick. Inch by inch, the thick tube went inside the urethra. Eric’s breathing started to become more laborious as the chimp explained.

“As you know, resources are limited here in the emptiness of space, so we need to recycle as much as possible. This box,” she said as she patted where Eric’s testicles were supposed to be, “is meant to absorb as much urine and cum as possible for further processing.” The hyena nodded, having a similar device on his suit. Just more advanced and way less intrusive.

The soldiers then proceeded to put a shiny, black latex suit on him. Same as before, the suit covered everything but Eric’s feet, hands, and head before it whirred to fit him tight. Similar to the hyena’s, this was so any traces of sweat could be absorbed and then turned into drinkable water.

The small soldier proceeded to seal Eric’s hands and feet inside of mitts, while the bigger one grabbed the rings peppered along the arms and legs of the human’s suit to bind him tight. Like that, Eric would be forced to be walk on all fours all the time, or at least until his master decided that a specific task required him to have more freedom of movement.

Once they were done, the big soldier moved to Eric’s head and pushed down hard while the smaller one propped the human’s butt up and patted his taint. A zipper opened on Eric’s behind. The human tried to catch a glimpse of what was going to happen. On the small soldier’s hand lay a small black cone with what looked like a flaying rubber tail attached to it. Was he also going to be plugged?

The chimp and his owner moved back as Eric felt the rubber cone enter his dry hole.

“You only need to take it out when taking him out to the bathroom.” The pair moved to Eric’s back after the soldier was done entering the thing. Something popped open. “This storage will also recycle whatever you put inside it, so just be sure it’s clean after your walkies. Are we clear?”

Sayne grunted in affirmation. He was then shown several hoods to finish his pet’s outfit. He personally didn’t care much about any of them, so he went for the classic. A rubber dog hood was put over the human’s head, completely sealing him inside, as the chimp handed Sayne the remote and explained all of its functions.

He was also given a leash, and after latching it to the ring on his pet’s collar, the pair were ready to leave.

It had been a difficult crawl all the way to the train station, being caged and plugged after all, but Eric was grateful that at least the knees and elbows of his suit were padded. Also, that his master had been so tired that he had chosen to keep the visor on his hood on, despite the doctor’s insistence on the contrary.

The train arrived soon after, and Sayne made his way inside, taking a seat right next to the door. He rubbed his eyes, still feeling groggy from his sleep, and reclined against the train’s window. Leash firmly in hand, his pet sat right next to him as the train started its march.

Eric looked around the car. It seemed to be empty for the most part, but in the opposite corner, he could see a huge rhino. The rhino was sitting with his legs spread wide open, and between them lay another pet, their face firmly pressed against the rhino’s crotch. Eric shifted his gaze up, looking at the rhino’s face, who winked back at him with a big grin across his face.

The human fumbled back and tumbled, grabbing his owner’s attention. Sayne followed his pet’s gaze and noticed the rhino, he then pulled at the leash to turn the human’s head at him. “What’s the matter, cub? Thirsty?”

Eric cocked his head, and a small movement on the hyena’s crotch caught his attention. A small hole opened before a sipper popped out. According to the chimp, to help with bonding, the pet’s suit resources were shutdown except during the night or alone times, creating a dependency between pet and master. Eric stared at the sipper and then at his master’s face. Did he really expect him to drink from it? In public?!

The human shook his head and Sayne shrugged, the sipper receding as the hyena grabbed hold of the one on his suit’s neck and started to drink.

A few minutes later, they arrived at the residential quarters and the hyena led Eric to their new home. As soon as they entered, the lights lit up. It was a small apartment, a single room that functioned as kitchen, dining room, and living room with two doors on one side and one on the other. Eric wanted to hurry up inside, but his master grabbed his leash with a tight hold. He raised one boot, pointing the sole in the human’s direction.

The pet cocked his head. Sighing, Sayne grabbed the human’s head and put it in a firm lock as he used the hood’s muzzle to pry his boot open. He then raised his other boot and put it on the human’s chest, who this time tugged as much as he could with his mitts. He would never be able to take it off with mitts on, so as soon as it was firmly secure (or as firmly as the round gloves allowed), the hyena pulled his leg back, the boot dropping right next to its sibling. Sayne pet his human before taking off the leash.

Eric crawled around when a sound behind him made him look back. His owner had just taken out a meal tray from the refrigerator and inserted it in the microwave. As the food cooked, he then went through each cupboard until he found something else. A huge heavy bag dropped to the floor and Eric approached. There was a happy human family plastered on the front of it, or at least that’s what he surmised they were supposed to be. None of them looked related to each other, and he had never seen a faker smile in his life.

All the nutrients that your little buddy needs!

The microwave rang and Sayne took out his meal. After putting it on the table, he went back and grabbed a cup of human chow and deposited it on a dog bowl right next to his seat. The human crawled over and stared at it for who knows how long before looking back at his owner. Sayne, however, was too busy chugging on his food, the same blank stare on his face as the one he had back at the clinic. Feeling his pet’s gaze, the hyena put down his fork and lowered himself, opening up the hood’s muzzle.

“There you go, cub. Dig right in.”

Eric had been hoping that the hyena would take away the food instead, or offer some of his own, but as his master went back to eating his meal, Eric resigned and took a second look back at his food. He tried to grab a piece of it to inspect it, before remembering that he still had his mitts on. Swallowing his pride, he leaned over to the bowl and chomped on a few kibbles. He gagged and possibly would have even vomited had the chow not been dry enough that it absorbed all the liquids inside him. Eric looked around for a water bowl, but found nothing, and then a ring caught his attention.

Next to his owner’s crotch, a light briefly flashed. The hyena had just finished recycling some water. Eric opened his mouth but stopped himself from saying something. With his voice taken away, there was only one way to let the hyena know what he wanted.

Sayne stopped his meal as he felt his pet pawing at his crotch. He rolled his eyes before pressing a few buttons on his suit’s wrist which unlocked the sipper below. The human dove right in and started to drink.

It was still warm…

After their meal was done, the hyena went to one of the doors to the side, and Eric followed. Eric guessed this was the master bedroom, as per the flushing sound on the door right next to him. Eric peered over in the bathroom’s direction, the hyena had finished washing his hands and was brushing his teeth. Had he relieved himself with the door open? Eric was unsure if this was because he was tired, or if he didn’t just care. After all, who else was there to see him? No one.

Just a pet.

After leaving the bathroom, the hyena sat on the bed and patted his leg. Eric approached, forcefully getting grabbed and his head stuffed on his owner’s crotch again. He felt the hyena’s paw on the nape of his neck, and it started to heat up. His owner then released him, a holographic projector on his wrist showing him Eric’s vitals.

“Well, everything seems to be going alright. No need to take you out for a walk until tomorrow either,” the hyena stated. Sayne lay down on the bed. He was tired, so tired. Still, he rubbed his bulge. If only his husband was there… He then looked over at his pet, whose gaze was fixed on his hand, tail trashing behind him. Intentional, or just the result of their previous tussle? “Seriously?” The hyena sighed, though he had to admit he was glad as well.

Master grabbed Eric and lifted him to the bed with no effort whatsoever. The hyena then turned him around and lifted Eric’s butt. A familiar popping sound happened, and Eric braced himself. He knew what was coming. He had been plugged all day, and with it remaining on his hole, it would barely feel any different than how it had been the rest of the day.

Sayne unzipped the pouch of his suit, letting his cock flail out. He lined it up towards the human’s hole, who did not seem to be struggling at all. “You really are a needy cub, aren’t you?” He said with a smile. He knew from the first time that he saw him that he had chosen the right pet.

While not feeling his hole getting stretched, Eric did feel the plug’s tip went further in as the hyena entered him. Just a light trust. Each subsequent trust, there was the occasional tugging from the plug’s base going deeper, and as the pacing increased, the occasional brush of the plug’s tip on his prostrate. The hyena continued his rhythmic pace until, ten or so minutes later, he gave one last, long, deep trust and grunted, followed soon after by another popping sound as he closed the compartment. The hyena grabbed Eric with care and put him back down on the floor, the weight of the hyena’s fluids slushing from side to side.

Pet taken care of, Sayne took out the remote and issued a command, freezing all of the pet’s movements, and turned off his visor. He didn’t trust the human enough yet to let him wander around while he slept. He also made sure to activate the pet’s suit systems, so that he would not depend on him for water. “Lights,” he said dimming them before lying down on his bed.

Blind and immobilized, all Eric could do was hear as the hyena started to record his log for the day. That is, until he started to feel an itching on his butt and a whirring sound came to life. The plug started to vibrate. It hurt, but it was so pleasurable. A small visual appeared inside his visor.

Water recycled successfully.

Protein recycled successfully.

Two compartments opened inside his muzzle, one with a small straw for him to drink and the other showing a small meal bar. Eric could still feel the weight of some of the hyena’s fluids on his ass, but then another visual appeared. A new recycling job had been added to the queue. The whirring on his back started again as the box around his balls started to shift, giving him balls a small massage, while the tube on his slit started to suck any liquids within.

Completely unaware of his pet’s ordeal, Sayne continued to write on his log. After he was done, he dropped the datapad on the bed before drifting off to sleep. The pad remained unlocked; log full in view. At the bottom of it, there was only a single line regarding his new pet.

“Requires more training.”
