** The Runt.**

Chapter 5.

By: Wolfie Steel.

It has now been two weeks since Mason, Steve and I moved into the huge mansion, and as promised Mason and I had given Steve a job, he is now our live in security chief, and has wasted no time in getting some muscle to help out, in the form of two of the largest equine's that either Mason or I have ever seen in our lives, both of whom are ex-military, to be more precise special forces. Commander Jones, standing at just under seven feet tall and jet black in colour, armed to the teeth and he knew how to use the weapons, being ex-SAS. Then there is Major Palio, standing at just a little over eight feet, and pure white in colour, again very well armed and trained having recently retired from the US Navy Seals.

The whole security setup could almost be called a joke, two huge equine's, both armed to the teeth and built like express trains, taking orders from a Husky who was no more than six feet if he was stood on his tiptoes, and yet whenever these two huge horses were in our company, they were polite and almost sedate, one would almost call them gentle giants. I for one, however, was not prepared to push my luck with them.

It is 00:20 am and I am suddenly made aware of movement in the house, I know for obvious reasons that it is not Mason and the possibility of it being Steve is slight at best as I know him to be a sound sleeper. I slowly get out of bed and still in a sleepy state head towards the closed bedroom door, I slowly open the door, I am aware of a body standing in front of the now open door, then suddenly nothing, I guess that I was hit with quite some force as when I finally awoke again it was 01:30 am and I was tied up and gagged along with Steve and Mason, the three of us now staring at the business end of a sawn-off shotgun, the figure brandishing the gun now flips the switch on the wall and the room is instantly bathed in light.

Standing in front of us holding the firearm is a human male and at just under 6 feet tall he would not have been a severe threat to us, but in our current position, he was the one holding all the cards. It was Mason that broke the eerie silence.

“Look, whoever you are, I'm sure that we can come to some sort of financial arrangement, I mean I am a………"

Mason didn't get to finish his sentence as a shot was fired, the bullet whistled dangerously close to Mason's left ear and then embedded in the wall behind him, and the human now spoke in clear tones.

“I seriously doubt that you could better what my boss is offering me, but by all means feel free to try."

Sensing that he had just bought us some time, Mason decided to push on further.

“Well, sir that all depends on who it is that is paying you to do this job?"

An evil smirk plays across the face of the human as he realises that Mason is trying to open up negotiations with him, but, in a turn of luck the human speaks again.

“Well seeing as how you are all going to be dead soon anyway, I guess telling you who it was that put the contract out on you wouldn't do any harm. The name of the guy is Ricky Finch, yes Mr Black, Mr Finch knows all about your change of identity and has offered to pay me three million pounds to finish the job that he started."

Mason now has a wide beaming smile upon his muzzle as he hears the name of Ricky Finch.

“Oh my poor deluded young friend, I'm afraid that you have been led astray by Mr Finch, you see Mr Finch is broke, financially challenged, without money, in other words, he is totally penniless, and would you like to know how I know this? Well I will tell you anyway, you see, I was once the source of Mr Finch's money, yes sir I was a money lender, right up until the day when I visited Ricky Finch to get his next repayment, needless to say, he didn't have it hence the reason why he tried to kill me. I can access Mr Finch's account from my computer and you will then see that I'm telling the truth, but first I will need to be untied."

The human stood and considered Mason's words; I could see that he was eager to see if there was any chance that Mason was telling the truth. Suddenly, with one hand the human pulled Mason to his footpaws and turned him around to untie his bonds. With his bonds now untied, Mason headed to his laptop and fired it up.

After a couple of minutes, the account for Ricky Finch was up on the screen, the human could now see that the up to date information was that Finch was indeed in the red, and quite considerably so, Mason then played his trump card and pulled his account information up onto the screen. The human's eyes went wide as dinner plates.

“I have never seen so many zeroes, okay, so I'm guessing that if I continue on this path and kill the three of you, I will get stiffed on my payment, but I see from your finances that I would never be short on payment, I have also seen that you are a truthful fur and I make you this offer, for some time now I have been wanting to get out of the mercenary business and get myself a decent, regular job. You have already witnessed my prowess with a gun, another half an inch to my left and you would have been a furry Van Gough. I know that it's going to be a strange partnership, five furries, and one human, and I admit that when I first thought of the idea, I was just thinking about the money, but the longer that I spend in your company, the less threatening you become. Now I'm going to untie your partner and the Husky, as a show of…..good faith."

The human untied me and Steve, with Steve free he lay down on the bed on his side and out of the view of the human; he pressed the secret panic button that had been installed on the back of the nightstand. Within seconds Major Palio was crashing through the door and holding the human in a tight choke hold, Mason then spoke out.

“Palio, it's okay, let him be, as you can see none of us is hurt in any way, besides, I wouldn't want our newest employee to pass out on my bedroom floor, but I do commend you on your swiftness, which will not be overlooked in your next paycheck."

The Equine released the Human from his hold and stood back, Mason now turns to the human.

“So my young employee, do you have a name or do we just refer to you as human?"

A slight giggle emits from the human's mouth and a wry smile spreads across his face as he replies.

“Ma name is Ryan Lewis, and I'm a highly paid…..sorry that should be was a highly paid mercenary. Now the thing is, I know the real identity of both you and your partner, but to the people that pay for my services or that I care about, they have ma utmost loyalty and silence, and as I guess that I'm to be your bodyguard whilst in public, you have ma assurance that I will never utter the names of Jake Black or Max Sloane. I would, however, ask that you grant me a leave of absence for a couple of days, I have a back stabbing double-crosser to deal with, I'm gonna teach him what I do to people and furs alike that try to hire me and don't have the money to back it up."

Mason dismissed Ryan to allow him to go about his business, after all, it would be helping quite a few people out, not least me and Mason. With the drama now over, Steve went back to his room to finish off his rudely interrupted sleep, leaving Mason and me to do the same.

It's now 10 am and I am woken up by the sound of a door being repaired, or should that be trying to be repaired. Mason had got his tool kit out but was making a complete hash of the repair, so I get out of bed.

“Mason, I love you dearly, you are a wonderful dog in every sense of the word, but you can't do carpentry for shit, let a one-time carpenter do the repair, though to be honest, Major Palio did a bang up job in destroying the door, so I think that there is a trip to the local hardware store for me and before you get all bent out of shape about me going out alone don't worry, even though Palio's shift has ended, I'm guessing that he won't say no to a ride out to the hardware store with me."

With that said, I kiss Mason on the lips and head for the Equine's sleeping quarters. Once at the door, I give a gentle knock, thirty seconds later a bleary-eyed Major Palio is at the door.

“It can't be the start of my shift again; I've not long got my head down."

“Relax Major Palio, I need to go to the hardware store to replace the door that you so skillfully demolished, and you know what Mason is like, especially after what happened earlier, so I was wondering if you wouldn't mind accompanying me to the store due to the fact that Ryan is otherwise engaged."

The horse lets out a slight giggle and a dark red blush spreads across his face.

“Yeah okay, let me throw some clothes on and I will come with you, after all, it was me that destroyed the old door."

With the horse now ready, he started to head for his truck until I stopped him with a question.

“I'm guessing that you have never been in a Rolls Royce? Well, I think it's time to set that to rights, and don't worry, I promise that you won't look out of place as you will be doing the driving, call it your penance for destroying the door."

The horse stopped dead in his tracks and turned to look at me with a look of disbelief on his muzzle. Once he realised that I was serious he let out a resigned sigh and walked with me to the car. Once at the car the doors automatically unlock and we both get in. Okay, I have to admit it, I'm gay and I'm an ass wolf and the sight of Palio's beautifully sculpted rear as it slowly slid into the driver's seat gave me one of those 'Oh my god, to be fucking that ass' erections which thankfully my seatbelt managed to hide, I have no doubts that he would be heaven in bed, but the huge beast is probably as straight as a ruler and would kill me in two seconds flat if I ever made any sort of advances towards him.

We made it to the hardware store with very little trauma, though a couple of elderly female wolves crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing point had cause to break into a run, I guess that if they got the licence plate, I would soon be landed with a bill for a couple of hip replacements and maybe a new heart pacemaker or two. Having secured the purchase of the new door and giving the address for delivery, we headed back to the car. As the door delivery wouldn't be for another couple of hours, I decided to take Major Palio for some lunch, as kind of a way to say thank you for caring about us and acting so quickly and also to maybe get to know him a little better, with Palio still being a little jittery after his time behind the wheel of my Rolls I decided that maybe it would be best if I drove.

After a while, I found a quiet little café which looked like just the place where two people could get to know each other without too many questions being asked. We pull up into the parking area exit the car and head into the café's interior; we were both instantly hit by the smell of freshly brewed coffee and even fresher food. We both placed our orders at the counter and then went to find a table where we could sit and wait for our lunch order to be prepared.

“So Major Palio, you have been with us for just under two weeks now, and whilst I know about the fact that you are a retired Navy Seal, I don't know why you retired from the service at such a young age, I mean I would put your age at around late twenties maybe early thirties but I would say that you still had some useful years of service to give to the Navy Seals, come to think of it, I noted from Commander Jones' file that he was removed from the SAS for what was called dishonourable conduct at much the same time that you retired, now that is one hell of a coincidence."

Major Palio now looked down at the table with a solemn look upon his muzzle, I could tell that there was something about his time with the Seals that he wasn't telling me, I was about to push the point further when Palio held up his hoofed hands in defeat.

“Sir, I have a confession to make to you. It is no coincidence that Commander Jones and I ended our service at the same time."

He was about to continue when the waiter, a French Poodle no less, arrived at our table with our lunch order, once he had placed our food and drinks on the table he retreated back behind the counter to continue serving his customers, I urged the Equine to continue with his explanation.

“My team of Navy Seals had been deployed to Afghanistan, for days we secretly patrolled the streets, looking out for any signs of trouble which may befall our regular Army guys. Things were going well until one day we saw a British SAS team head into a building, five minutes later there was a huge explosion, we raced to the scene only to see the team all dead, or so we thought. We were about to leave the scene when I caught the sound of a weak cough coming from the debris, I looked back into the mayhem at where the sound had come from, and there buried under a fallen wall was a black coloured stallion still mercifully alive, though only barely. My team and I slowly headed into the debris and began to dig the soldier out from under the collapsed wall. We worked for half an hour and eventually got him free, I knelt by his side and held his head up whilst offering him a drink from my water canteen; it was then that it happened, my sight instantly locked on those pure and powerful emerald green eyes of his and I was lost. After a few moments I managed to get a hold of my senses, I slowly lifted him into my arms and carried him out of what remained of the building. My team continued their forward sweep of the streets whilst I headed to the nearest US Army camp with the injured horse still in my arms, I was determined that he would not suffer the same fate as his team, this guy was going to live. Over the course of the next few days I made regular visits to his bedside and we became very good friends, I guess you could say that the Anglo/American relations were good, then one day it happened out of the blue he…….kissed me, I had never even considered being anything but straight and yet I just stood there and let him kiss me, in fact, I deepened the kiss, that was probably one of the worst moves of my Army life as at that precise moment my commanding officer came in. He gave me a choice, as I was nearing the end of my tour of duty I could either retire on medical grounds, or I could be dismissed for dishonourable conduct, I chose the retirement option, Commander Jones did not get the choice as he was still half way into his tour, he was booted out of his unit and the Army with dishonourable conduct. That kiss changed things for me, I had fallen for this black stallion, I had no family or loved ones back in the US so I decided to come back to Britain with Neil, sorry I mean Commander Jones. We intend to go through the civil partnership ceremony and become life long mates. So now you know the full story behind Commander Neil Jones and Major Thomas Jepherson Palio."

To say that I was gobsmacked as I sat and listened to this huge Equine tell me that he was gay, would be an understatement, but then it all started making sense, the chances of finding two security guards with special forces backgrounds at the same time is something that I wouldn't even try to work out. Did it bother me that Mason and I had hired two gay and attached security guards? Not in the slightest, the way Palio had acted when he restrained Ryan was nothing short of professional, to the untrained eye these Equines were guys that you did not want to get pissed off, but now I had peeled away some of the layers of mystery surrounding them, I could see that they cared for each other very deeply indeed, so much so that Major Palio ditched his country of birth to be with the horse that he loved for the rest of his life.
