Chapter 127: The Assassin And The Thief (Consensus Part Five)

Day 983 (Night, in the parking lot of the Seven/Seven Club)

"It is over Watch Commander." The jaguar growled.

"You will pay for killing Gif." The female lizard next to the jaguar added.

"And it seems you were followed- again!" The gorilla mercenary said raising his paws over his head.

"Friends of yours Mr. Mastiff?" The mysterious human next to the rogue knight asked also raising his hands over his head.

"More like persistent gnats." Ben said also raising his paws above his head.

"Watch Commander why are you doing this?" The satyr Sanda and I had met earlier asked.

"It is beyond your comprehension Chucky." Ben replied.

"But sir, I looked up to you... you were like a mentor to me!" The satyr bleated.

"This life is full of disappointments Chucky, misery pain and suffering as well." The traitorist knight said.

"The short answer junior knight is that none of this matters." Guerrilla Gorilla said gesturing to the five knights that had surrounded them in the parking lot. "This world is going to descend into chaos- again and nothing you or anybeast does is going to prevent it."

"On the contrary, we beg to differ." The bull terrier behind them said.

"Well then Max, we will have to agree to disagree." The mastiff said to his former subordinate.

"Something is wrong commander!" I said as I followed Lady Keiko.

"Not now boy!"

"Yes now commander!" I said running behind her. "Look at those three- don't they seem awfully relaxed for prisoners?!"

The commander didn't respond to my query.

"Ben! It is over now! You have lost!" The female chimpanzee said joining the rabbit, jaguar, satyr, lizard and bull terrier that were preparing to take him in.

"Do I know you little monkey?" The mastiff said condescendingly as Lady Keiko walked up in front of him.

"Alex." The disguised gorilla said to me.

(I do not like this!)

"Overwatch deactivate the holo-projector." I whispered into my PDA.

*Affirmative Mr. Winter.*

The commander and I returned to our normal selves in front of the rebel, mercenary and traitor.

"Oh it is you K. Nice disguise." Ben said to his former superior.

"And you that annoying flea that took down Chester and Ricky!" Guerrilla Gorilla said locking eyes with me. "Trying to complete the set?!" He asked.

"Overwatch this is a dire emergency! Assume control of the prototype." I whispered into my PDA.

*Understood Mr. Winter.*

"I hate to interrupt your reunion but I left that rather nice club to see a demonstration." The blond human to the mastiff's left pouted.

Ben looked at Guerrilla Gorilla and the mercenary looked back at the mastiff as something unspoken was said between them.

"I guess we can test it right here then." The mastiff grumbled snapping two finger paws.

*SNAP*

"Why did you snap your paws?" Chester asked his former superior.

The rabbit didn't have to wait too long to find the answer.

!!!

*Targets Acquired!* The black prototype said materializing just behind Lady Keiko's forces. But as it did, we realized that it was missing the hard top canopy on it rear; the turret.

*WHOOSH!!*

"AHH!!! My leg it's frozen!" The jaguar screamed.

"AUGH!!!" The lizard shouted.

Several of the knights screamed as they were attacked by some aerial force.

Attack Beast's weapon's turret was airborne! It rained down laser blasts on myself and the six knights surrounding their capture. The commander, Zip, and Wanderer were hit repeatedly and fell to the ground. Chester, Max and Chucky tried desperately to hit the aerial attacker as I watched Ben, Guerrilla and the TRUTH rebel make their way toward the black prototype.

(Oh shit!)

"Overwatch!" I shouted into my PDA.

"What is that thing?!" The bull terrier screamed to the satyr.

"I think that is part of Attack Beast." Chucky said dodging more incoming blasts.

"Nice, is that option standard?" The TRUTH rebel asked his colleagues.

"Whatever it is take it down before it takes us down!" Max said to Chucky.

The two junior knights fired their laser weapons at the aerial attacker.

"Alex get behind us." The satyr ordered.

"Chester!" Max yelled to the rabbit. "Let's concentrate our fire."

I watched as the laser blasts from the junior knights struck the turret bouncing off of the armor plating while the turret continued to fire at the attacking knights.

"Don't you think we should show our colleague what else Attack Beast can do?" The gorilla said to the mastiff.

"But of course." The mastiff said.

!!!

(Oh no!)

Attack Beast's weapon's turret stop dive bombing us to hover as it locked its crosshairs on the three junior knights and myself. We had just enough time to see red streamers fire from its weapons tubules.

*CHA-BOOM!!!!*

The shockwave shook the club and hurtled nearby hover vehicles like they were toys.

"Very impressive!" The TRUTH rebel said to his colleagues as they climbed back into the black prototype.

"So how many can we put you down for Mr. E?" Guerrilla Gorilla said trying to close the deal.

"How many schematics do you have?" The human said as the weapon's turret reattached itself to the bed of the truck again.

"Let's talk." Ben said.

"Aren't we going back inside?" The TRUTH rebel asked.

"Naw, they are going to be cleaning THAT up for the rest of the night." Guerrilla Gorilla said.

With that the three drove off into the night.

"How are we still alive?" Max asked as the smoke and dust cleared from the rocket attack.

"I think it has something to do with that blue coupe." Chucky said.

"Nice timing Overwatch." I said to the automated assistant whom I realized had extended the deflector system to protect myself and the six knights from the surgical strike.

*The deflector took a severe beating from the attack, its strength has dropped to 39%. Should we go after them?*

"No we have injured. Overwatch get mobile healers here now." I said to the automated assistant.

Amazingly the parking lot of the Seven/Seven club was still standing, the only destruction was the corner area where the knights bravely fought against the black prototype's weapon's turret. But the damage in that area had been horrific.

Max, Chucky and I went to check on the injured. Zip had enough holes in him to match his spots; he had been killed backing up Wanderer who lay gravely wounded near by. The commander had a broken wrist and several broken ribs. She had given as much as she received.

"Max, Chucky status?" She coughed.

"Chester and Wanderer are gravely wounded." The bull terrier said.

"And Zip?" She asked her subordinate.

"He took the brunt of the laser blasts; he didn't make it." The satyr said.

"That flying weapons turret must have been one of the classified goodies Master Koala was talking about during the demonstration this afternoon." I said to the commander.

"That and some other things." The gorilla warrior coughed.

"One thing I don't understand commander is why did Ben turn his back on the core?" Max asked.

"It appears that this future he believes is coming, is so horrific, it overrides everything else, duty, honor, loyalty, friends and colleagues." The commander said as emergency services arrived.

"What happened here?" A a male porcupine in white scrubs said arriving on the scene. "And do I have you permission to be here after curfew?"

"A battle, a bad one." Max answered.

"And yes you do." Chucky responded.

"Healer, three of my forces are gravely injured." Lady Keiko said.

"Yes ma'am." The healer said looking at the jaguar, rabbit and lizard.

The porcupine took out some type of portable circular orb-like device and held it over Zip, Chester and Wanderer.

"I am sorry ma'am there is nothing I can do for the jaguar. He has more holes in him than spots. But I can heal the rabbit and lizard, but I will need assistance."

"Max and Chucky!" The gorilla warrior said standing up.

"Commander what are you doing?" I asked.

"I am stopping Ben." The she said groaning. Her eyes showing a level of rage I have never seen before.

"Commander, I know that this is your operation- but you are wounded; we both need to be checked out first, then we need to sit down and talk strategy." I said standing in front of the female gorilla.

"You just want to go back inside to check out that dingo waitress." Lady Keiko coughed.

"Well that and get another peek at the sex rooms. But that is not important now. We are 0 and 3 against the Watch Commander."

"That is why he has to be stopped. That is too powerful a weapon for Ben or the Animalitia to have."

"Respectfully no ma'am not in your present condition."

"This is my operation boy! Remember you are just an observer!"

*An observer whose intervention saved you, Max, Chester, Chucky and Wanderer from joining Zip in the afterlife commander.* The automated assistant said.

"Though we only just met commander, I consider you a friend. One who I don't want to see unnecessarily killed. Ben took out two of your subordinates today. I feel he has no problem taking out the rest."

Soon after Lady Keiko and I were checked out by the porcupine who healed her injuries. I was relatively uninjured thanks to Max and Chucky.

"I advise that you, Chucky and Wanderer rest, your bodies have been through a lot today." The healer said packing up his tools.

"Thank you. But no. There is still work to be done." Lady Keiko said jumping back into the prototype. "You four clean up here, then head back to the castle. We will have to put off grieving for our colleagues until this is over."

"Yes ma'am." The bull terrier, rabbit, satyr and lizard said.

I soon joined the commander inside the prototype.

"My strategy is not working." The gorilla warrior admitted to me. "Direct confrontation didn't work, neither did surveillance, reconnaissance or separating the targets from the black prototype."

"Did you know that Attack Beast could be remotely controlled?" I asked the female commander.

"Master Koala said that he was thinking about that type of interface but had not implemented it."

"Looks like Ben just did." I said. "Now that I think about it, we have been at a disadvantage from the start of this commander."

"How so boy?" Lady Keiko said giving me her undivided attention.

"Ben Mastiff, he was one of you. He knows the procedures, protocols- how all of you think!"

"Correct Alex. He was also the strategist of my team."

(Well, there you go!)

"Then there is Guerrilla Gorilla. In the past whenever the knight core went up against the Animalita they seemed to always be several steps behind." I said looking the black female gorilla next to me in her brown eyes.

"You are referring to Sir Wolf's failed raid of the Animalitia's hideout a few years ago." Lady Keiko said to me.

"And Commander Gator's nearly failed operation against the Liberate Counter Earth Now rebels which the Animalita assisted." I added.

*There is also your encounter with Ricky Raccoon and Chester Conner in the first prototype.*

"Yes that too Overwatch, in each encounter the knight core was out-teched."

"The point specialist." The she beast said growing impatient.

"Ben Mastiff and Guerrilla Gorilla are a deadly combination. In each encounter against them, we were outsmarted and out-teched. The only way we are going to defeat them is guile." I said conclusively.

"Guile?" The gorilla warrior asked me.

"Yes ma'am guile. It was a lesson I learned when I first started sparring with Lady Ursa."

"You sparring with her? I am surprised that you are still among the living!" The gorilla warrior said shocked. "She is a walking breathing tank!"

"Yeah about that..."

*Commander, Mr. Winter, I have an incoming communication from an unknown source.*

"Put it through Overwatch." The female warrior said.

We were soon staring at the traitor, the commander had tried to take down several times that day.

"I warned you not to come after me K. This is all your fault; their blood is your paws." The mastiff said sternly looking into the monitor as he ended the communication.

I thought she was going to lose it at that moment, but the commander composed herself.

"Overwatch can you pinpoint the origination of that?" I asked.

_*It originated from Attack Beast, the black prototype. It appears the targets are still on the move.* _

"They are. Judging by the buildings in the background, they are somewhere on the north-side of the city." The commander deduced.

"Was Ben tempting you to come after him again?" I asked.

"What do you think boy? He knows, that I will not let this go. But how to find him again?"

"They must have some type of hideout there. Their base of operations?"

"Then, let's head there." The gorilla said powering on the prototype. "But how do we find them?"

"Simple we just have to get within a 1000 feet of them." I said. "Then we could pinpoint where they are stationed."

"Why a thousand feet?" Lady Keiko asked.

*Mr. Winter affixed his microprobe to Guerrilla and Ben's associate as they made their escape earlier.*

"Well more like threw it at him. It is attached to that robe he was wearing. However, the transmission range is quite limited."

"Exactly when were you going to tell me of this boy?"

"When we have a solid strategy for our next confrontation." I said. "Without one the same thing is going to happen- we will find their base, order them to surrender, they will say no, confront us, we will be outwitted, outsmarted and out-teched and lose. So what is the plan commander?"

We drove spent the rest of the night, driving through the north-side street, by street, block by block looking for their base of operations. I disguised the blue coupe as a healer's mobile unit as not to arouse suspicion.

"Are you receiving anything?" The gorilla warrior said watching me play with the copilot monitor and keyboard.

"Nothing we are still out of range." I said regrettably.

"Then we will drive around again and again and again if necessary." Lady Keiko grumbled.

So again we drove around the north-side of World Four.

Day 984

We continued driving around the north-side street by street, block by block. Then as dawn broke...

"This section of the city is very quiet and peaceful." I said still eyeing the monitor.

"There is a reason for that, this area is under development."

Many buildings were being torn down for new construction.

"Interesting area." I said looking around.

"I like to come here from time to time to clear my head. This area is a paradox- destruction and creation all within the same vicinity."

"I see what you mean, the numerous cranes all over the place. Many of them are quite tall, long and broad." I said looking at five that were towering over several sites on that block.

It was at that point that Lady Keiko pulled over, got out of the prototype and studied the scene before us.

"Commander!" I said as my computer screen came to life. "I am receiving an image from the microprobe."

"It was a pleasure doing business with you Mr. E." I heard Guerrilla Gorilla say as a image of a green wall appeared on screen.

"After that demonstration how could I not?" The human said to the mercenary.

"Commander?!" I shouted to Lady Keiko.

"You have something boy?" She said looking at me.

"Yes. I am receiving an image from my microprobe from 1000 feet, that direction." I said pointing to what looked like two buildings of apartment homes under construction.

"Which one?"

"The building to the right." I said as Mr. E moved around in the video feed. We received a look at another wall in the building.

"Hidden in plain site." The commander said sitting back down inside the prototype.

"So what is the play?"

"Guile." The gorilla said giving me her microprobe.

Lady Keiko wisely realized that a direct assault on the Ben and Guerrilla's hideout would not be wise. The place was probably booby trapped, so she decided on surgical assault. She aimed the prototype so that it was facing the apartment home a thousand feet away.

*Laser system engaged*

Carefully the female warrior drilled a large hole into one of the rear facing rooms of the building. She then had me load her microprobe into the right side-pod.

Carefully she aligned the cross-hairs with the hole she had made and took the shot.

**CHINK!!**

The probe hit the wall of the room which gave us a nice vantage point. We could see the hole the laser had made and the doorway leading to the hallway and the kitchen of the apartment home.

"Did you hear that? I think it came from the bedroom." A mercenary said walking away from the kitchen.

"Let me know the minute he is within range." The female warrior grumbled.

"Yes ma'am." I said widening the angle of the video feed from the microprobe. We watched as Guerrilla Gorilla entered the bedroom to investigate the noise he had heard.

"Talk to me boy." Lady Keiko said.

"Line up the shot." I said. "He is almost within range."

I watched as the gorilla mercenary started looking around. This must have been the pair's hideout- he was wearing shorts and a white shirt! Most likely getting ready to settle in for the day. He looked directly at the microprobe before noticing the hole in the wall by the window that had been made. When he walked in front of that hole, he became ours.

"NOW!" I screamed.

*Tractor hook engaged.*

*THWOK!!!*

"WAAAHH!!!" Guerrilla Gorilla screamed as a hook with cable pierced his leg.

"It looks like I caught a big fish." Lady Keiko said as she retracted the cable. The Animalita member was pulled leg first through the wall of the apartment home screaming.

(Was it the pain of being pierced by a hook or pulled through a wall?)

"Well it looks like the knight core has finally completed their Animalita collection." I said as we saw the mercenary writhing and screaming in pain as he tried to free himself from the hook that had pierced his leg as he was being dragged on the ground by the cable. Too bad he had left his weapons in their hideout.

"Not quite." The gorilla seated next to me said solemnly as she lined up the crosshairs on the screen and made a selection from the weapon's menu. I next heard the click when she pressed the left toggle switch on the weapons console.

*Electric pulse engaged*

I watched as a ball of electricity launched from the right side-pod and made contact with the writhing mercenary. He was electrocuted instantly; he made the most blood curdling scream as he was dying.

"AHHHHHH!!!!"

Lady Keiko wasn't done.

*Grenade launcher engaged*

"That was for Zip Animalitian filth!"

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!*

I watched in awe as the grenade connected with the now electrocuted mercenary and he was blown to bits in a vicious, vicious overkill. His head, arms and chest had been forcibly removed from his body. Only his legs and waist remained.

I looked at the commander in disbelief as to what she had just done. As did Ben and Mr. E who entered what was left of the bedroom Guerrilla Gorilla had been pulled from.

The rogue knight started firing at us with his service weapon. The laser blasts bouncing off of the blue coupe.

"What is the status of the deflector?" The gorilla warrior asked as she cut the cable to the tractor hook.

"Deflector strength has dropped to 20%." I announced looking at the status monitor.

"Good enough she said as she pressed the left toggle switch."

*click*

*Grenade launcher engaged*

The left side-pod launched a grenade into the bedroom of the apartment home right in front of the rogue knight and the rebel.

*BOOOOM!!!*

I lost the footage of the microprobe as the back bedroom of the apartment home was blown up.

"I think you got their attention commander." I said.

"They got Guerrilla!"

"Get to the truck. I am going to settle this- now winner take all." We heard Ben say as he and the rebel ran toward the garage. The footage from my microprobe showed a lot of bouncing and movement as the two made their way down the stairs.

"Overwatch I need to send a communication." Lady Keiko said calmly.

*Yes commander.*

"This is the commander, I am engaging the traitor in the Heights neighborhood in the north-side."

The commander powered on the prototype for a fourth confrontation with Ben and Attack Beast.

We pulled into the driveway of the apartment home as the black prototype burst from the building in attack mode. Its hood was covering the windshield, grill lowered, weapons turret raised firing everything it had.

* _ ZAP-ZAP-ZAP-ZAP!!!* _

**BOOM!!* *

The blue coupe was being hit by laser fire, rockets and machine guns. I watched as they bounced off the windshield like they were nothing. But there was a problem. The deflector's strength was falling 17%... 15%... 10%.

"Commander the deflector!"

The female warrior said nothing as she backed up the prototype as the weapon's turret started to fire that viscus white fluid again.

*Mr. Winter, commander they are using the freeze ray again.*

"On it!" I shouted.

*Flame thrower engaged*

I targeted the weapons turret with the right side-pod while the commander attacked with the left hurtling missiles, grenades and laser fire. All dissipating as they hit the windshield of attack beast which was protected by the hood.

*Projection system engaged*

"It's over Ben you aren't going to walk away from this!" Lady Keiko announced as she targeted the front tires of Attack Beast flattening them.

"What are we going to do?" The TRUTH rebel said as the mastiff growled.

"Winner take all." We heard Ben say through my microprobe as he started pressing a series of buttons within the cockpit of the black pickup truck.

The gorilla warrior and I watched as the weapons fire abruptly stopped, the turret and grill retracted and the black pickup started shaking violently.

"Something's happening!" I shouted.

The hood and truck bed folded down forty five degrees behind and in front of the cab while legs emerged from underneath and the weapons turret became arms. Attack Beast converted into a 20' walking automaton with the cockpit of the truck as the command center.

"Did you know Attack Beast could do that?" I screamed as the walking robot moved toward our position.

"No!" The commander said as she floored the blue coupe in reverse.

Attack Beast raised its arms at the blue coupe. We had just enough time to see a series of red streaks launch from the automaton's arms striking the blue coupe dead center. I watched as the deflector strength dropped from 7% to 0%.

*The deflector system has failed* Overwatch announced.

"Commander!" I announced.

"Yes we have been out-teched." The she beast said switching the prototype into drive and flooring it.

!!!

**SWACK**

The commander tried desperately to drive off, but we were swatted by a giant hand that sent us rolling ultimately landing on our left side.

"Status!" The gorilla warrior shouted.

*The deflector is down, the left side-pod is inoperable and the black prototype is approaching from the rear.*

*THUMP- THUMP*

"This is it! This is it! Ben is moving in for the kill just like the time Mara and I faced off against Chester and Ricky in the original prototype!" I shouted. "Wait!"

*Holo-projector engaged*

As Attack Beast was arriving on our position Ben and Mr. E suddenly discovered that there were ten different prototypes all on their sides in front of them.

"That bought us some time but not much." I said to Lady Keiko. "When they figure out which one is us, we are done."

"Which is the real one?!" I heard the TRUTH rebel ask within the walking robot.

"Destroy them all then!" Ben said.

Attack Beast started firing on all the replicas of the blue coupe. The force of a nearby explosion caused the windshield to further crack as the shockwave went through the blue prototype. Without the deflector on to protect us, the status screen turned red with system failures.

*Commander, Alex are you alright?*

"Just peachy." Lady Keiko said.

_*BOOM!!!!* _

*That was a direct hit to the undercarriage.*

"Why are we seeing systems failures?" The gorilla warrior asked.

"That is because we are about to be carved up like a roast or blown to bits." I announced.

"I thought you said this is the greatest weapon in World One?!" The she beast grumbled.

"It is primarily used for surveillance and to back up our forces." I announced to the angry gorilla next to me.

"Hmm.... Wait that crane over there. Yes that one! How far would you say it is?" She asked me.

"Um."

*It looks like they figured out which one is the prototype.* Overwatch announced.

"RANGE!" The gorilla warrior said to me.

"Um, 700 feet." I said.

"EXCELLENT." The she beast roared lining up the crosshairs on the windshield.

*Laser system engaged*

*THUMP- THUMP* *THUMP- THUMP* *THUMP- THUMP*

I watched as Lady Keiko cut through the huge beam as Attack Beast reached our position and locked onto the blue prototype.

"This is the end K!" Lady Keiko and I heard Ben announce in the command center of the walking automaton.

"It certainly is for you Ben!"

*Tractor missile engaged.*

The missile exploded on the beam of the crane causing it to fall landing on the cab of the automaton Ben and the TRUTH rebel were sitting in.

**KRUNCH**

We heard the screams of Ben Mastiff and his human accomplice as they were crushed under the weight of the beam.

*The armor on the black prototype was weakest on the roof. Excellent strategy commander. The threat has been eliminated.*

We watched as a tan paw extended out of the wreckage of the robot. I also was still receiving audio and video from my microprobe. The commander casually looked at my monitor. She was not having any of that.

*Electric pulse engaged*

*Grenade Launcher engaged*

I watched in shock as Ben Mastiff and the TRUTH rebel were electrocuted and then blown up in the same manner that Lady Keiko had dealt with Guerrilla Gorilla; the feed from my microprobe ended.

"That was for Gif. May you have a better life in the next world traitor!" The gorilla next to be roared.

"Commander you killed him? But, but he was your friend!" I said.

"Unlike where you come from boy, things here aren't rainbows and unicorns; there aren't any easy answers only hard choices." She said to me.

The commander's forces arrived shortly afterward and were able to right the blue coupe which suffered significant damage, but more importantly had not been destroyed.

(Phew).

Later that morning...

"So you and the commander had an adventure did ya?" The caracal asked me.

"Yeah I assisted her in hunting down the traitor who was also working with the Animliatia and the TRUTH rebels."

"Did she take them down?"

"More like squished." I said. "The blue coupe took some damage, well a lot of damage, but at least it wasn't totaled this time."

"Well Sir Ram and Mara will be happy about that." Sanda said.

"How are you?" I asked hugging my friend who was resting comfortably in a bed.

"I was never in any danger. The same can't be said for my tail; the healers couldn't save it." Sanda said rolling over showing me his bottom.

His bottom was; bare there wasn't even a nub only a scar where his tail had once been.

"I am sorry." I said to the Watch Supervisor.

"Right so there is a little less of me now. As of today you and I have a lot more in common."

"Right I guess we do." I replied.

"How do you humans even deal without having one?" The caracal said to me.

"Oh that is simple. I worship my lover's tail." I said laughing. "Look at it this way your base may itch, but at least you will be able to sit down unencumbered from now on. But if that doesn't help I know a cute dingo who waitresses at the Seven/Seven Club- she only wears an apron." I said leaving the room.

"Oh you mean Tina?" Sanda said.

"Wait, wait you know her?!" I said staring back into the room. The caracal only smiled.

(Does he know her or KNOW her?!)

In the hallway I ran into the commander.

"How is he boy?" She asked me.

"Missing his tail but except for the nasty itch from where it used to be located, he is fine."

"You were an invaluable asset to me today boy." The gorilla warrior said extending her paw.

"It was an honor working with you too commander." I said taking her paw. "Friends?"

"More like occasional acquaintances who tolerate each other." She said to me.

(That's all?)

"I can't accept that commander."

"And why is that little human?" She asked me.

"Have you have forgotten my profile already? I am only fiercely loyal to my friends." I responded hugging the gorilla warrior.

To my surprise the prejudice beastial accepted my embrace petting me on my head.

"I can see why Lady Ursa adopted you; she said that you are something special indeed."

"You have been in contact with her?" I asked the knight of Sogreth.

"Yes she has been asking me some questions about motherhood; I told her the truth."

"Really?" I said astonished.

"Boy, would you like to get some coffee?"

"Sure." I replied.

"Perhaps you can tell me why your master is so curious about motherhood."

"Well that is a long story commander."

"How long?"

"About eighteen months long." I replied as we walked toward the castle cafeteria.
