#3 of Cyn

Cyn sat in silence at the edge of a clear lake, looking at her reflection. She couldn't really tell what she was feeling. She always thought she was a monster. Everyone seemed to hate her. That all changed though, when she met Will. They had been travelling together for a couple of weeks, and had gotten to know each other quite well. Will had explained that he traveled around drawing maps, but the bandits pretty much ruined that for him. Now he was just a homeless wanderer. If he hadn't met her, he may not have gotten into this situation. Thinking about this hurt her deeply. The first person she ever befriended had put himself into a situation that he couldn't get out of. Poor Will... she thought, looking over at the human, who was several feet away from her swinging an old, dull sword for practice_. He is so determined to help me. He says it's because he wants to make up for all the wrongs man committed against me_. she thought, looking back at her reflection. He called me beautiful. He said that I wasn't a hideous monster. She strained her eyes, looking closer at the curved, blue face that stared at her from the water. "If I'm so beautiful, why do others hunt me?" she said, swiping at her reflection with her paw, breaking the blue face into ripples.

"Well, Cyn, I think I'm ready." Will said, sheathing his sword. He was still wearing the clothes Regin's men gave him. They had been cleaned a couple times since they began travelling, but were starting to become tattered.

"Yea, I suppose so. So, are we still heading east?" Cyn asked, looking up at him.

"Yep. I'm sure the people of Drangual will invite us in with open arms. They worship dragons, so I bet they'll treat you like a queen!" Will laughed. "I mean, you might say you're not a dragon, but you do have some pretty dragon-like features."

"Am I really beautiful?" She interrupted, looking at him. "You said that I wasn't a monster, and that I am a beautiful creature. How can I be beautiful if everyone wants me dead?"

"Uh... Cyn, have you been thinking about that all morning?" Will asked, looking the dragon-like girl in the eyes.

"If I was really as beautiful as you say, people wouldn't be trying to kill me." She sighed, looking at her claws. "I'm just an animal."

"Cyn, humans are animals, too. They probably just want to kill you because they want to sell pieces of your skin, or something like that. It's probably your beauty that draws the attackers in." Will said, kneeling down to eye level with her.

"You can't mean that." Cyn said as she lowered her head.

"But I do..." Will said, pulling her head up and looking her in the eyes. "I really think you are beautiful. You just seem so majestic." He said, slowly moving his hand from her chin to her cheek.

"Majestic?" She said, stepping back and looking at herself. "What's so majestic about a beast that hides all the time?"

"You just won't let me compliment you, will you?" Will laughed, standing up. "I'll find a way to prove you aren't a hideous beast. You don't seem to take my word for it."

"Excuse me, sir." A women's voice interrupted, causing both Cyn and will to jump and turn around. Behind them stood a young girl, maybe seventeen years old, wearing a black dress, and her long red hair tied back in a braided ponytail.

"Uh... yea?" Will said, a little stunned.

"Are you a beast tamer?" she asked, looking at Will, then down to Cyn. "I mean, you seem to have done a good job taming her." Hearing that, Cyn lowered her head.

"She is not a beast!" Will cried, causing Cyn to perk up. Why did he defend her so vigorously?

"I didn't mean to offend you. I was only meaning to ask for your assistance." She said, bowing her head politely.

"You'd ask for our help?"Cyn said, looking at the girl.

"Yes... well, you bear a resemblance to a creature that is attacking the kingdom. I thought maybe you could communicate with it." She said, kneeling. "Please, help us!"

"First you call her a beast, and then you expect us to help you?" Will angrily yelled.

"Will, calm down. This might be my chance! If I can save these people, maybe they will actually treat me well!" Cyn said joyfully.

"Fine, we'll help you. Just lead the way." Will said, trying to act a bit nicer. Honestly, he felt a bit nervous about what they may be getting into, but he pressed on.

Arriving in a ruined castle town, Cyn gasped, "One beast did this?"

"Yes. A blue-skinned creature that looks like a blue-skinned dragon. It demanded that we bring it all the food we grow, or it would kill the princess, who it has been holding hostage in the highest tower of the castle." The girl said, looking at an old, fire-scarred castle in the distance.

"Okay, let's go, Will." Cyn said, walking quickly toward the castle.

"Cyn! What has gotten into you? You're acting awfully strange lately. Ever since we've met that girl, you've been acting all heroic." Will said, looking at her.

"Of course. She said that the beast looks like me. Maybe I can finally meet another of my kind!" Cyn said happily.

"So that's why you're so enthusiastic. Alright, let's go." Will said. hastily walking to the castle. Meanwhile, the girl that led them there simply grinned mischievously.

"I'm sure that the master will love his present." She quietly chuckled, watching them walk away.

"Heeelllo? Mr... Ms... er... Mrs. dragon-thing? Are you in here?" Will yelled as he opened the door.

"Shut up, Will." Cyn groaned, walking past him into the old castle.

"For some reason, I don't think this castle belonged to a human." Will said, looking at the statues of demonic beasts lining the walls. "At least not very nice humans."

"Come on, Will, it's not that bad. Probably just trying to intimidate people out of the castle." She said, heading toward a flight of steps.

"I just don't like this place." Will said, walking beside her up the winding stone stairs.

"You just don't want me to meet this other of my kind! What if he's male? Maybe I'll find true love!" She said with a fantasizing sigh.

"If you love gothic Satanists." Will said, looking at a demon statue that sat on the side of the stairs.

"Give it a rest." She sighed, speeding her pace up. Finally, as they reached the top, they approached a large door.

"Well... here it is. He should be in here, guarding the princess. I'll go ahead and go in first, so that maybe he won't feel so threatened." Cyn said, pushing the door open, and walking in.

"Wait! Cyn!" Will cried, running in after her. Both stopped and stared at what they saw; another of Cyn's kind, but larger, with rippling muscles and red eyes. He sat on a large golden throne, and wore a crown on his head.

"So, you're the one that my servant sent. So, will you offer yourself willingly?" he asked, grinning, his teeth eerily sharp and white.

"Uh... offer?" Cyn asked, confused.

"I am a male. You are a female. Our kind is scarce in this world. I want to breed with you. Do you accept, or must I take you by force?" he said, stepping off his throne.

"You're going to have to get through me first!" Will said, stepping in between them.

"Will, back away. This may be my only chance." Cyn said, walking passed him.

"But Cyn... he..." Will said, before being interrupted.

"I believe that she has the right to choose." The male said, looking down at Cyn.

"Will, can you leave the room for a little bit?" She asked, trying to be polite.

"But Cyn... you can't possibly actually want to mate with him!" Will cried.

"Will, I am part of an endangered species. It is my duty. Now please go." She said, trying to motivate herself. Honestly, she was scared of what he might do, but she had to go through with it.

"Fine." Will said, leaving the room. He didn't want to, but Cyn's mind seemed made up.

"Alright." The male said, raising one paw. The door slammed shut, locking Will out. "Allow us to negotiate."
