Running In The Rain Part 3
#3 of Running In The Rain
The night roared on with the rain the lightning and the thunder. All the while he stalked the empty city streets, steaming all the more, from anger as well as arousal. Why did he act that way in the coffee shop? He knew he probably could have had a decent conversation with the girl if he hadn't walked in and acted like some sex crazed devil. The look on her face when she screamed and cowered before him made his blood boil. He wanted to punch himself in the face, but knew that wouldn't get him anywhere, so he just roared and screamed draconically with the lightning and the thunder. As morning grew near his anger sizzled away, and as the storm died with the pre-rising of the sun he found himself sitting against some random building. His knees spread apart and upturned, his elbows resting on his knees and his arms held outwards lazily. The hair on his head drenched and dripping with rainwater as his head was hanging down.
He didn't even attempt to keep track of time for how long he sat there in this position. But the rain had completely stopped and the only sounds of water left were puddles left from the downpour from poles, trees, and rooftops. Traffic was slowly starting to pick up as people were getting ready to go to work and other early appointments.
She lived with her friend and her friend's husband in a townhouse on the outskirts of the city, but neither of them were home at the time, and since she was afraid of the coming storm had went to the city and stayed at the coffee house. If only she had known what was going to happen at the coffee house she would have chosen a different destination.
The shock from last night was still fresh in her mind. They were comforting to her and gave her free chamomile tea to calm her nerves, but still, she couldn't help but feel guilty and ashamed from her actions. She knew from the way they were talking last night that he was a Mutt and that's why he was so unusual. So different.
So unique.
Of course she couldn't voice that opinion there with so many people that didn't seem to like hybrids of any sort. They were even near the point of forming a posse and chasing him down for scaring her since she was normal. After much insisting and assuring on her part that she was fine and that they didn't need to do anything drastic did they let the idea of chasing him down go. Some of them left as the storm began to die down, and by the time she found she had fallen asleep curled up on the couch, the only one left was the barista who was sleeping on the counter. So, quietly she had gathered up her small green denim purse and walked out of the coffee house, careful to open and close the door slowly and carefully so the bells didn't wake up the barista.
She hailed a taxi and climbed in the back, baggy white pajama's and all. The taxi driver was an older black Husky and he smiled at her warmly with his blue eyes as she attempted to comb through and fluff the bob on her head in to an appropriate appearance.
"Late for a hot date?" He chuckled with a deep yet musical voice.
She felt her cheeks blaze as she was in mid pat. Sighing with a defeated smile she plopped her paws to her lap and looked up with her big beautiful brown eyes.
"Not really for a hot date, no. I haven't had one those in a good long while."
This seemed to surprise him and he literally turned around from looking at her in the rearview mirror to gaze directly at her.
"You mean to tell me a pretty young lady like yourself doesn't have males chasing after you all the time?"
She blushed even hotter and it was evident she was openly flustered and embarrassed. It was cute but pathetic in a way that she even started to wring her paws together in distress. He chuckled and shook his head.
"Don't worry about it, sweetheart, I'm just an old heart-throb that doesn't know when to keep his big maw shut."
"Oh, no, sir, I didn't mean to offend you..."
He laughed; "You're not offending me. Just relax, beautiful, and tell me where you're heading to?"
She bit her bottom lip and sported very delicate and small yet very canine teeth. "The hospital."
He raised his brows and once again his icy eyes sought her out in the rearview mirror. She nearly whined with the awkwardness of the situation as she tried to explain;
"I'm not hurt or anything, I just, I work there. I'm a nurse...I deal with new-borns."
"Ah..." The old husky made a noise and nodded his head as if that answered all of life's questions.
She pouted and was going to ask what that Ah actually meant when he kicked it in drive with a chuckle. Hurriedly she reached for her seatbelt and attached it to it's designated slot within the seat cushions. It unnerved her that he kept chuckling all the while towards their way to the hospital but then she came to realize he had pups of his own. Grown now, if the pictures taped to his dashboard were any indication, but still, he probably knew everything that felt wrong in her head. She thought about opening up and talking to him about it, but instead, looking out the window at the dreary gray and wet city.
That's when she noticed him.
City naked, still.
Alone and in what was left of the rain.
"Stop!" She yipped in distress.
In alarm the husky slammed on the breaks and nearly slammed his nose against the steering wheel. Before he could ask what the hell was going on she had already opened the door, left it hanging open and her purse on the seat, and ran towards someone sitting against a building on the sidewalk. He cringed when she almost got run over by another passing car that honked furiously at having to slow down momentarily. But she ignored the car and fell to her paws and knees as she scuttled up to him. The guy had his head down, but she crawled so that she could look up at his face from below, and he had to admit, the view of her ass in those loose pajama's still looked quite appealing.
"Hello? Sir?" She inquired as she looked up at him from her crouching position.
He had his eyes closed but when he heard her voice the lids slowly raised and the encompassing glow from them spilled across her face. She blinked a couple times but kept her brown gaze intently on his amber one.
"What's your name." He asked, but it came out sounding more like a monotonous statement.
"My name? It's Kate. Are you okay?" She reached up her right paw to check to see if he had a fever.
He grabbed her right wrist with his left hand, not unkindly and not enough to hurt her, but enough that she couldn't get away if she were to struggle. She swallowed a lump that had formed in her throat but she didn't try to get away. Even though she had a searing cold pain in the back of her throat seeping down her lungs to run away. She looked straight in to his glowing yellow eyes and waited to see what he would say. He blinked once, slowly, and then pulled her arm closer to him so that her paw and wrist went over his left shoulder. Their maws increasingly got closer and closer, but the slow deliberateness of it all made her breathe quicker, in panic.
"Jaye." He whispered in his deep, grating voice. Smoke and steam billowed from his mouth and nose as he said it and she pulled away in fright, but it didn't burn and it wasn't acrid, and it smelled strongly of cinnamon. She blinked a couple times in surprise.
"Jaye...Are you okay? Why are you sitting here soaking wet? And...Naked..." She tried not to look down at his sheath that she knew was merely inches away from her chin. But try as she might her big brown eyes were drawn down to it as a ship to a lighthouse in a hurricane. She barely glanced that way before blushing furiously and looking away.
Despite himself his wolfish maw broke out in to a toothy grin and he pulled her closer in one quick jerk. She squealed in fright but could do nothing against how strong he was and found herself straddling his lap. In utter horror her maw gaped open and her eyes bugged out of her head.
"Am I really that frightening?" He asked as his face twisted in to an expression of sad imploration. Searching through the terror painted on hers to try to find something more behind it.
She clacked her mouth shut and drew her paws to herself, since he let her wrist go, underneath her chin against her chest fluff. Big brown eyes looked down at her paws as she thought about what to say to not hurt his feelings and to be truthful with how curious she actually was about him. She could feel his long fingered hands slide around her waist and back, she was so much smaller than him, that he could almost wrap both hands around her waist and touch fingers. It wasn't that she was skinny, she was actually quite generously curved, but she was small. She raised her head back up and looked straight in to his glowing yellow eyes.
"I have to go to work right now, but, we could meet later today?"
She actually giggled when his eyes bugged out for a change and he looked like he'd nearly die from shock. He pulled her closer so that she grinded against his exposed and unclothed sheath. She blushed wildly and pushed against his shoulders with her paws for him to let her go. He did, biting his bottom lip, and watched her scuttle away and get back in the Taxi.
Then he realized with a curse that he hadn't let her finish saying where they should meet. He gathered himself to his feet and watched the taxi drive off in the distance. There was no point in trying to hail one to follow her because being a mutt, and naked, it would be hell to get one in time to follow her anyway.
