Calm Water Chapter Four

(Derrick)

I knocked on the door to Cade's room and I heard a jump from within then what sounded supiciously like weapons being drawn. "Easy there human. Just wanted you to know supper was ready. I don't bite. So you can put down whatever weapons you just drew." I said as I waited by the door the hall traffic breifly puasing around me before continuing on.

Cade stopped at my side looking at his door while Logan continued on. Both of them smelled of sex but since it wasn't nescarrily directed towards me I can't find that I particulary minded.

Eventually the door opened and while the human was unarmed he did look very much on guard. "I thank you for inviting me to supper." he said respectfully as he gave an inclination of his head.

"Well whoever he is at least he is well mannered" I thought to myself as I nodded in return. "I'm glad for the company." I replied and stepped aside to let him pass.

He walked past me easily enough not showing that he was uneasy being this close to me. He nodded to Cade then followed the crushing mass of furs to the dining room.

(Kevin)

The dining room of the frat house was a large room with several little tables spread out. The main serving area was a stainless steel affair with several trays and a heat lamp. It had taken 3 months of persuading Derrick and the college board to get the current equipment that was in place. But the caveat was that the frat had to fix it if it was to break.

As the mass of furs came in and helped themselves I was kept busy by refreshing the stock of food and making sure there was enough drinks and such to go around. Though I made sure that none of it was Alcholic. Didn't need them to get piss drunk on the first day back after all.

Once everyone had gotten some food I took the last portion for myself and stepped back into the kitchen to zap it in the microwave. As I waited I heard Derrick call for silence in the dinning hall and he blessed the food.

Soon afterwards conversation started up again. While I wasn't exactly religious I didn't mind this small ritual. It was harmless and it didn't affect the food quality so who was I to judge?

As I took some food to my usual little nook I had the chance to look over the pack at large as they ate the food. Over all the atmosphere was light and cheery. There was no shortage of luaghter trailing throughout the room and smiled all around. There were a few places that were quite but mainly it was lively.

I turned my attention to my own meal choosing to savor my peace while I still had it humming softly to myself as I ate. While I wasn't anti social I was withdrawn when I got done preparing a meal. The other's knew it and tended to just leave me alone. I could talk to a few of them like Derrick.

However even with the old members back it still felt quite empty within this house. Perhaps the new members that would surely be attempting to join this year would make it at least a little less empty for awhile.

The dinner was nice and I found myself enjoying it. The group of people around me were lively enough. Though I took note of the time and when I finished up my food I moved to go wash my plate. I didn't see Kevin in the kitchen and I wondered if he had retired early. He was a quite guy but I didn't mind that.

My nap despite it being cut short had left me refreshed and I went to go back upstairs intending to just rest a bit longer. However on my way up I heard about a night club. I debated mentally with myself before shaking my head no and heading up. Getting drunk is not my usual thing. The atmosphere might have done me good though.

I shrugged and decided to go check my time table before I headed out. I managed to find my way back to the dorms without getting lost somehow. Which honestly in my opinion was an acheivment.

Once there I grabbed my coat and felt my stronger senses come online. I wondered why and Sukura gave me no answer. It definitely made me curious but as nothing leaped from the shadows to attack nor did I hear anything amiss. The more sensitive nose helped me pick out Cade's natural scent better but I don't think He would be interesting as a partner. A friend sure but not sure I wanted it to progress to the bedroom.

I remembered what I had come up for and cursed my wandering thoughts before going to look at my schedule. I didn't have a class until noon so it wouldn't kill me if I went to the bar to just relax. I kept my coat on and eyed my swords. I doubt Cade would mess with them and while I'm pretty sure I could summon them if I needed too it wouldn't help me get into the club carrying those around.

Flipping open my phone I looked around for the closet clubs. Furnication was the first one and it seem more...sexually oriented. I debated mentally then shrugged before looking down at the next listing which said "Dragon's Den." I quirked my lip as I thought a few images of burly muscled dragons coming to mind and I nodded to myself.

I moved to head out making sure I had my wallet and such as well as that my phone was charged. I didn't plan on getting nuaghty tonight but a few condoms hit my left pocket and a small bottle of lube joined them.

What? Don't give me that look. It never hurts to be prepared. Better to play safe then risk it otherwise. Before I left fully I cuaght one more bar on the listing a bit further than the other two. "Midnight Drink." i clicked on it and found that it catered to bats. Specificually those that needed to drink blood. I'm not going to lie and say that didn't remind me of Dracula.

However I didn't have to drink it so it really didn't matter. My mind made up I headed into the night intending to visit the Dragon's Den. As I walked out of sight of the college I made sure no one was around that could see me then like silk the form of my fox wove over me and took solid shape.

Instantly I was walking with more confidence. After all I had several abilities at my fingertips. It might be a false high as well but my mind also instantly felt sharper as the new scents and better night vision filtered into place as well. Later I would look back on this night and I would wish that I had waited until I reached a more secluded place before I changed my shape. Becuase unknowingly I had just put myself on the radar. An action that would forever change my life.

(???)

"Target Located." I said into the microphone watching the former human walk down the street as if nothing had just occurred. "Any ideas as to their abilities?" "Negative. Another Dream Weaver. Why can't the vermin just die out?" I replied as I adjusted my night vision goggles from the spot on the roof. I had a perfect view of my target as I moved to follow him using Parkour to make my way around as silent as I could.

"Now now, if they didn't exist then you my dear would not have a job." replied the cool voice of Central. Though most people hated Central's usually sarcastic tone it sure did made me luagh.

"That's True." I remarked before noticing the figure in question walk into a club. "Dream Weaver breeding grounds." I muttered as I waited for a bit then moved to follow them into the club.

Quite a few dragons were about in this one and while I could tell at a glance they were all natural it didn't help my anxiety much. Still the blue furred fox seemed to be oblivious to my presence. I smiled softly. This was going to be fun.

With a quick motion I was unsheathing my weapon. The fox turned in time to see me and start to back up.

(Kyle)

I was going to wish I hadn't ever came to this club. In fact I was going to wish I had moved quicker than I had the instant I heard the noise I should have been moving. As it was I got a long almost needle like silver blade stuck in my right shoulder.

I screamed in pain though I did not make a move to withdraw the offending weapon. Instead though it hurt like a bitch I was moving into my usual fighting crouch. Those around us were drawing back with shouts of alarm and a series of thuds announced that someone or a group of someones had just dealt with the bouncers of the club making them drop to the floor hopefully unconscious and not dead.

"Vermin!" shouted the red head as she moved towards me once more and my nine tails moved behind me like enraged snakes moving to strike. Though instead of directly attacking me again they activated a small little gizmo and pointed it right at me. The Rod in my should resonated with strange energy and as I screamed in further pain I felt my fox form leave my body slidding off me like water.

My head was pouding from what I could only assume was an eletric shock. "Not so special without your gifts are you." they spat. I'll give you one guess as to who they is.

"Oh dear heart" I husked despite my pounding and aching head. "My abilities might be gone. But that doesn't mean that the human form is weak or defenseless. You might have slowed me down...but you should never count out a fox."

As I finished speaking I reset myself and blinked to clear the last ghosts of pain from my mind. Then old familar patterns wove together into my mind and in another blink of an eye I wasn't seeing my opponent but a network of attack points. Ones that if hit fast and quick enough would either stop my attacker outright or hopefully drop her dead.

Apparently I had suprise on my side as I darted forward and with three quick strikes their left arm fell useless to their side suddenly dead to the world. While my method of fighting might work currently that didn't mean it wasn't able to be defended against. After all it relied on being able to hit certian points in a certian sequence. All they had to do was move the targeted body part and cuase me to hit the wrong key. Though the result would often be more deadly than if they had just let me land my origional strikes.

A shadow suddenly moved between us A wall of Blue scales obscured my vision while above me a rather cultured voice said softly. "You come into the bar and attack an innocent bystander for no apparent reason." he shifted his weight and took a breath. "Surely they can't actually breathe fire." I thought stepping back as the ... suprisingly well built dragon came into view. Instead of the air getting hotter though I swear I felt the tempature drop at least 12 degrees before watching some frosty mist lightly drift from the dragon's mouth. "One last chance. You get out of here and you don't come back." said the dragon before they took one last deep breath.

I unfortantly felt my world spin then blacken at the edges. So I don't know what happened next as I rushed to the floor and into the darkest pit of the abyss. The impaled rod must have had some type of posion on it. Or it could have been blood loss or fatigue Who knew?

The end result is Sukura had to catch me as I fell into the dark depths of my mind .Which considering if I was weakened he had to be as well. That's the last thought the pair of us had that night.
