Next morning, Stephen awoke feeling like a truck had run over him, he was groggy, disoriented and exhausted. Dressed in his sweat and semen stained boxers, he rubbed his eyes and squinted at the clock, then his eyes flew open as he realised it was nearly 10:30 in the morning.

“I've slept in - “ Stephen moaned, as he threw aside the covers and dragged himself from bed, heart thumping in his chest and adrenaline singing through his veins. “Kelly, my love, are you still here? Hello?”

Only silence greeted him, as he rushed to the bathroom and turned on the shower – he knew he was late for his shift – oh so very late – but he couldn't very well face the public with the sour stink of his sweat and the combined scents of the passionate lovemaking he and Kelly had shared the night before. A part of him still niggled at him – what he had shared with Jasmine – but he pushed that little voice to the back of his mind as he quickly showered and dressed himself, hurrying out the door.

Kelly's mind was torn in two – she was distracted and dismayed, her mind unable to focus and concentrate, before she apologised to the tour group she was leading through the sanctuary, pleading feeling unwell, then getting another keeper to take over the tour as she made her way to the staff room, where she slumped into a chair and another keeper, noticing the whitetail's distress, brought her a large bowl of water.

“Here Kelly, you look like hell – you feeling alright, do I need to call Dr. Catherine?” Asked the keeper, as she took a seat opposite Kelly.

Kelly rested her chin on her paws, then shook her head slowly, her clasped back ears slapping quietly from side to side. “No thank you Cassie – I don't need the vet, I'm just – a bit unwell today, upset tummy and all that, must have been something I ate - “

Cassie grinned, then reached over and placed a hand on Kelly's paw, then squeezed it comfortingly. “Something – or – someone?”

Kelly's eyes widened, as she lifted her head and stared at Cassie, who tilted her head and raised an eyebrow.

“You -” Kelly moaned, muzzle falling open and ears flattening.

“Honey, some of us stayed back late last night, the Giraffe was due to calve any time, and believe me – we know. What did you two do last night?” Cassie chuckled, continuing to pet Kelly's paw gently. “I've been wondering why we haven't seen Stephen all morning, did you break him?”

Kelly blushed, then laughed nervously, before trembling. “I had no idea -”

“Honey, I'm jealous of you both, you've got a loving, gentle man, who thinks the world of you, and you him! Be thankful for what you have, love such as yours is rare and far between – so – tell me, how does he – measure up?”

Kelly blushed even deeper, her back swept ears beginning to burn, as the capillaries inside them engorged with blood.

“Hey, we've been friends since high school - “ Kelly began, then giggled shyly and squirmed, not finding an easy way out of this conversation.

“We've never hidden anything from each other either!” Cassie admonished her gently, taking Kelly's paw in both her hands and squeezing gently.

“Promise you won't breathe a word of this?” Kelly asked, leaning forwards conspiratorially.

“Not a word!” Cassie smiled, leaning forwards to hear the juicy details.

“It started like it usually does - “ Kelly began, then blushed again and squirmed, loosening her collar.

Stephen was beside himself – worried that Kelly would be angry with him for oversleeping, but why didn't she wake him at 0500, like she always did? Sure, he was tired – exhausted really, physically and mentally, but he had a job he loved and it was so unlike him too -

“Hey stud!” Yelled out Kelly, as she approached from around the corner, then stopped and looked at Steven appreciatively.

“Stop that - “ Stephen chuckled, then stared at her. “Have you seen Kelly around?”

“She was in the staff room, poor doe is a bit under the weather today! Here's a tip, next time you two play the beast with two backs, close the windows! I think half the sanctuary heard you two last night – to say I'm jealous, is an understatement!”

Stephen stared, his mouth hanging open, before he flushed from toes to hairline, as Cassie chuckled and stepped over, then gave him a tight hug and slapped him on the back.

"You..." Stephen stammered, his blush turning darker.

"Honey, half the night staff heard you two, I'm impressed – truly – that was a herculean effort, no wonder poor Kelly is so unsettled. You trying to start your own herd or something?"

Stephen stared, dumbfounded, then he laughed nervously. "She is – quite a lady, I'm honored to call her my mate, to use their words for it."

"She must have the constitution of a Rhino, I swear, I got a hot night like that, I'd be exhausted for a week! Bravo son, bravo, no small effort, I know how hot a anthropomorphic doe's libido can run, I think you made her the happiest doe in the world last night." Cassie chuckled, then slapped Stephen on the shoulder, before she began wandering down the path heading to the public sections of the park.

"Wonderful - " Stephen moaned to himself, as he shook his head slowly. "If Cassie knows – the whole park staff will know in an hour...just, wonderful..."

Kelly kept herself out of Stephen's path all day, as she fought the emotions that flared within her. Part of her didn't want to believe it, was it a dream? Had she imagined that scent on his pants last night? Now she thought of it – that scent was on him as well... Could it be a simple accident? He had been with Jasmine and that stag..but to get the scent of an eustrous doe...

"How...why would he...he wouldn't mate with a feral..." Kelly muttered to herself, her eyes half closed and forehead furrowed. Her mind kept playing the same questions again and again, despite how much she tried to shut them out, the subtle voice in her head kept its sussurant whispering. "It was an accident, he might have accidentally brushed up against her whilst they were penning her and - "

Are you really certain thats what happened? Come the quiet thought through her mind. You're no fool young doe, trust your ancestors insticts, your sense of smell is't as sharp as a feral Whitetail's – but still a thousand times that of a human. You know the smell, you've smelt it thousands of times, haven't you? How do you _ think _ it got there hmmm?

"No!" Kelly moaned, as she sank down onto a log, clutching her head in her paws, the tears welling in her eyes. "Stephen loves me, he is loyal to me, as I am to him! He would never hurt one of the animals – any – animal, I know him, I trust him, and I love him..."

Then confront him with the evidence, before its too late – do you think he's the kind, sweet, gentle man you believe him to be? You only get that scent on yourself, or on your – clothes – by one way, and you know how, don't you?

"No, its not true, I don't believe a word, he would, he couldn't..." Kelly wept, the tears running down her muzzle, leaving glistening tracks in her cheek fur.

Face the truth little one – he betrayed you, who knows what that poor doe felt? You know how endowed he is, can you imagine some poor, sweet, innocent feral held against her will, him forcing himself upon her...

"Stop it" Kelly whimpered, knocking her knuckles against her head, as if she could drive out the voice in her mind. "It's not true, he'd never do something so cruel, he loves the animals of this sanctuary – all of them – he would never do something to harm a single hair on their body, I know my husband, my mate, I know him for who and what he is..."

Oh, he loves the animals alright...just not in the way you think...
