“Selene," Amanda whispered gently. “I need to take you to hospital, honey, please!"
“I'm alright - “ Selene muttered, a she shuddered, eyes wide and vacant looking.
“No, you're not!" Amanda spoke sternly. “He – he hurt you honey, look at the blood, those scratches? Gods know what bacteria he has on his claws! At the least, you'll want a tetanus shot, and get those wounds disinfected and cleaned up. Come on, that's it – easy now..."
Selene let herself be led to Amanda's car, then driven to the hospital, her mind whirling and overwhelmed. Everything seemed to be crashing in on her all at once. Raped by the Therian, the animal cruelty cases, the murders, all of it!. It jumbled together and made Selene suddenly scream and claw at her temples, like she wanted to tear her very brain out and dash it on the road.
“Woah, hey!" Amanda squealed, as she slammed on the brakes, then sat there, gripping the steering wheel and staring at Selene.
“No, stop, stop it...stop it!" Selene screamed, as she began to become irrational.
Hearing the tortured screams, two orderlies come running, before Amanda gasped as they opened her door.
“No, whoa!" Amanda yelped in fright. “Give me – please! Give me a minute, I can help her...please?"
Reluctantly, the two wards men backed off, as Amanda turned to Selene and quickly sized up the situation, before she savagely slapped her across the cheek.
“Constable Selene!" Amanda snarled, her voice commanding and irresistible.
Selene stared back, before she shuddered and her eyes rolled back in her head, her body going limp from stress and exhaustion.
“Now, please – she's suffered terribly, please be gentle?" Amanda sniffed, as the two wards-men carefully got Selene's limp body out of the car and into a wheelchair.
“What on earth happened to her - “ One whispered, as he seen the blood dripping from her wounds.
“I wish I knew, I found her like this – out on the highway - “ Amanda lied, as she followed them into the Emergency Department, then a Doctor come out and held up a hand.
“Ma'am, I'm afraid I can't let you in here, please, wait in the waiting room..."
Amanda paused, before she wrung her hands in desperation and fear for her friend, before she swallowed and nodded, watching as Selene was wheeled away.
*
Hours later, Amanda paced beside Selene's bed, before Selene's eyes fluttered beneath their lids and she moaned quietly.
“I'm here - “ Amanda told her, placing a hand gently on Selene's forearm. “you're alright now, easy sweety!"
“Whur - “ Selene blinked, then squeezed her eyes closed and shuddered, before wincing. “What did they - “
Amanda held a cup with a straw, watching as Selene took a few sips. “You're in hospital, you're alright – look, I'll go get the doctor, she can explain it to you better, okay?"
Blinking, Selene gave a weak nod.

A few moments after Amanda left, Selene heard the door creak open, and the night doctor come in, consulting her clipboard. Looking up, she smiled at Selene and stepped over to her side, placing her fingers on Selene's inner wrist, checking her blood pressure.
“How are we feeling? That pain relief the ED gave should be..." She began, before frowning slightly and quietly counting again the pulse.
“Terrible - “ Selene moaned quietly. “Feels like nothing was given to me and – doctor, what's wrong?"
“Nothing..." Stammered the doctor, as she loosened her robe collar, her nostrils flaring almost imperceptibly. “I'm just -"
Her fingers quivered on Selene's wrist, before Selene's eyes suddenly widened and the Doctor dropped her clipboard, backing away, her eyes wide and fearful.
“No..." she stammered, before she squealed and backed up towards the door.
“You're...one of them – a - “ Selene gasped, her mind reeling.
With a shriek, the doctor turned and fled the room. Selene tore away the leads and IV tubes that'd been stuck into her, before she stumbled out of the room in pursuit.
“Stop,....her!" Selene croaked, then found her voice. “Police, stop that doctor!"
Terrified, the Doctor fled down the hallway, smashing open the swinging doors at the far end, her eyes wide in terror, as she looked left and right. Hearing Selene come after her, she shrieked and took off running, as if the very hounds of Hades were on her heels.
Selene staggered, her hand clutching at the wall, leaving a bloodied smear. Indeed, a trail of blood spots followed her, as she staggered and thrust open the double doors. Turning about, feeling weak and unsteady, she looked left and right. A Nurse lay crumpled on the floor nearby, papers and folders scattered all around her. Selene stumbled down to her, then gripped the Nurse by the collar and pulled her up, staring into the groggy nurses eyes.
“A...doctor – where'd she...go?" Gasped Selene.
“I...who - “ Began the Nurse. “Doctor...that...way!"
Pointing, the Nurse shook her head, then her eyes focused and she looked at Selene, noticing the blood beginning to soak through her hospital gown.
“You're...hurt - “ Whispered the Nurse. “What -"
“No...time!" Selene grunted, then pushed the Nurse away and began weaving her way down the hallway.
Again, doors confronted her, and Selene reached out for them, before she gasped as she felt sharp talons slam into her side from out of a dark doorway to her right. Impacting like a pair of sledgehammers, Selene was kicked savagely sideways into the wall, her head smacking with a loud thud – then she knew no more as she slithered to the floor, dazed, bleeding and barely conscious.
Her last vision was of a kangaroo's tail vanishing through the door, above which was marked 'EXIT"

Selene woke reluctantly, her head feeling like someone with a log splitter was at it.
“Constable?" Someone whispered, then touched her forearm.
Selene's body acted before her mind – and she gripped the wrist, then twisted and there come a sharp snap, as the young male Nurse dropped to his knees, screaming and clutching at her hand, that had broken his wrist.
“Constable!" Someone shrieked.
Selene blinked and gasped, before she released the arm and shuddered. “I – I'm sorry, I didn't -"
Sobbing, the Nurse clutched his broken wrist with his other hand, before he got led out of the room by another.
“Constable, easy..." Come a soft voice, as there was a sharp sting in Selene's upper left arm.
“NO!" Selene shrieked, flinching away. “I need too – I need - “
Her mind become disjointed, and she shook her head violently, before her eyes focused and she started to get out of the bed, the machinery she was attached too falling with a crash.
“Constable, please - “ Sternly spoke the female doctor – another one – who frowned and looked at the Nurse, who also frowned. “You sure that was the correct dosage?"
“Ten milligrams Doctor - “ Spoke the Nurse, as between them, they struggled to restrain Selene.
“She should be unconscious..." Spoke the Doctor, then smacked the emergency button.
“No, let me...let me go!" Selene struggled wildly, her strength seemingly super-human as she fought them and began to scream in rage. “I got too stop – to catch that..."
Another doctor come running, then took in the scene, pulling a hypodermic syringe from his pocket and driving it into Selene's thigh and depressing the plunger. It was desperation, he didn't know what else to do.
“I...I can't – stay..." Selene shuddered, then her whole body crumpled bonelessly, like a robot who had its power source cut.
“How on earth - “ Spoke the first Doctor, dumbfounded. “TWO shots...she should have been under after the first!"
Frowning, the second Doctor paused, then rested a hand under his chin. “I've heard that some people have a modest tolerance to sedation, but – never to this extent! I suggest we get restraints on her. Obviously the Constable is suffering some sort of neurological problems. Better we be safe than sorry, I know from her charts, she's been admitted here before. These – violent outbursts – are definitely out of character for her..."
