The Party - For Better and for Worse
Dawn and Rob have had the idyllic upper-middle-class American life. For the past ten years, they have experienced what it is like to be young, in love, and starting a family. This includes both its amazing ups and its not-so-amazing downs. The biggest change and regret? Their sex life has taken a back seat. But Dawn's rich doctor friend, Trisha, has a soltion for her, and it's likely to change things forever!
This is an old anonymous commission I did back in the day, brought to SoFurry for the first time. If you'd like to commission me, check out my Commission Information.
“I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.” Rob looks to the woman at his side, the love of his life, the girl of his dreams. Dawn’s blue eyes sparkle like pools of clear crystal water, her blond locks spilling over her shoulders in her beautiful white dress. Already, he imagines her without it and the exciting honeymoon the two will undoubtedly share.
Dawn looks up to blue-eyed husband and stands on her toes so that their lips will lock. This magical moment will forever be in their mind. She knows this to be true, and it fills her with such warmth. There’s no possible way that she could feel any better.
Later that night, when the lights turn off and the reception is done, she casts aside her dress. They rock the bed as Rob rocks her world, sending her into a bliss that she has never felt before, nor does she feel like she will ever feel again.
Months later, it is hot and humid. The air conditioner broke, and they are left with nothing to do for a whole night. Clothing sticks to their bodies as sweat builds up between them, and, when she finally cannot take it anymore, she peels off her top and climbs upon her lover. The fire they share burns just as brightly as it had when they were first married.
Years later, Rob makes his big promotion and can’t wait to tell his wife all about it. She squeals on the phone, congratulating him for making it. It means a bigger house, a place for them to actually start the family they had talked about for so long. In fact, she wants to get started on it right away.
When Rob walks up the hallway in the apartment complex and pulls out his keys, they don’t even make it to the lock before Dawn opens the door, standing in the doorway wearing a trench coat. She brushes her finger up along his chest and grabs his tie, pulling him in, and pulling the only thing she wears off, squeezing his hand as the two reach their climax again in another round of passionate lovemaking.
Nine months later, he squeezes her hand once more, patting her gently as her screams of pain replace the screams of pleasure from the night of conception. Hours of intense labor end with the crying of their firstborn, a beautiful baby boy. They again look into each other’s eyes and the sparkle in them is still there, but slightly fainter.
Work grows ever-more-difficult for Rob, as the company goes through hard times. But through it all, he pushes through it.
Dawn, meanwhile, goes back to college for her Master’s Degree. Long hours of studying and burning the midnight oil have them collapsing onto the bed. At least they time it so that they can sleep together still. They cuddle in each other’s arms, too tired for anything more substantial, but still she sighs when she feels his strong arms around her, and he kisses her lips when she pulls him in closer to her bosom.
The baby monitor crackles to life with a wail, and Rob grumbles, pushing himself up. “Right, right… my turn…” he says, slipping out of the bed and going off to comfort his son, leaving his wife alone in the bed once again. It may be his turn to take care of the kid, but its her turn to take care of herself. She rolls on her sides, her fingers brushing down along her body slowly, yet steadily.
A few more years pass. The house is nearly paid off, the second kid is on the way, and their first plays outside with his father. Everything is idyllic. Work can’t go any better, and her job allows Dawn to work from home. Night comes, and Rob wraps his arms around his pregnant wife and whispers into her ear. “Come on… please?”
“Rob, I’m pregnant!” she protests, her hands pushing his arms away from her swollen breasts. “And I’m tired.”
“I’ll do that thing you like…” he whispers, kissing her behind the ear. Why did he have to kiss her back there?
“Mmm… fine…” she says. “But you’ll have to come around here. I can’t roll around.
He chuckles and slides out of the bed, grabbing his boxers and gets ready to pull them down, when a clap of thunder and a flash of lightning plunge the house into chaos.
Like a bolt of lightning himself, their kid dives into the bed and slides under the cover, shivering in fear at the terrible weather. Mother comforts her son by wrapping her arms around him, hushing him and kissing his forehead.
Rob sighs and slides in himself, patting his son on the head. “There, there, kid… just the rain. We got this great house to protect us. You don’t have to worry, shh…”
It’s been ten years since their wedding day, ten years and finally the two have some time to themselves. They sit across from each other at their favorite restaurant. They talk about their day, about how work has been going, and about the doctor’s appointments and the soccer games they have to make.
Dawn sighs and swirls her wine glass, giving it a little taste.
“Remember the last time we were here?” she asks.
“Yeah, and how you pulled your shoe off and…” she pauses, waiting for her to be that playful young woman she used to be.
“Yeah… times sure have changed, haven’t they? No more wild nights, no more discreet footsies, just you and me talking, enjoying ourselves for once. Feels nice, doesn’t it?”
He chuckles and shakes his head. “You know what? I can’t disagree with you, dear,” he says. “We’re not young kids anymore, after all.”
“Yeah,” she said. “Plus its so much of a hassle, right?”
“Y-yeah, right? Finding the time… getting the kids asleep… being quiet…”
“Yeah. I don’t want to live just for sex. We got something better going on, you and I.”
‘Yeah… still… I miss it.”
“Yeah…” she says, sipping her wine again. They drop the subject, and continue on their night with a good night’s rest.
“Let me get this straight,” Trisha says, you and Rob had a great dinner, a baby sitter lined up to watch both of your kids who was willing to stay overnight, and you two decided to call it in early so you could sleep!?” She shakes her head and brings her glass to her lips. “Damn, girl, you really are getting old.”
Dawn rolls her eyes, bouncing her baby daughter on her knee as she idly watches her son play with Trisha’s daughter in a small playhouse Trisha’s husband had built.
“What? And you and Devon don’t value a good night’s rest?” Dawn
asks.
“Hell, yes, we do,” Trisha whispers, placing her drink down and leaning closer. “But we also know when its best to get a little action, if you know what I mean. Got to make sacrifices if you’re going to remain happy, know what I’m saying?”
“Rob and me are perfectly happy, thank you very much. Besides, we don’t really want kids anymore. Two’s just perfect for us, you know.”
“One is all we really want,” Trisha says, bringing her fingers up and making a scissors motion. “But we took care of that so we didn’t have to sacrifice our fun.”
“Oh, please. Nothing is ever going to get between Rob and his family jewels, that’s for certain. Besides, whatever happens happens. That’s how me and Rob have been living our lives.”
“I hear that, girlfriend. But really, take it from me. I live in this big house, I got myself a fancy degree and a comfortable practice that makes me more digits than I could ever imagine. I got a husband who is good with his hands, in more ways than one, and we’re both very busy individuals. But you know what we always make time for?”
“Sex?”
She shakes her head. “No, not just sex. We make time to stay young! Age is only a number, and your number is the big three-oh. All you
need to do to keep yourself happy and healthy is to be in the mindset of being happy and healthy. Everything else falls into place after that.”
“I’m pretty sure me and Rob are happy enough.” “But you could be happier.”
“I could be having more sex, yes.” Dawn sighs. “You obviously have something in mind. What is it?”
“It’s simple. All you got to do is do something from your past. Get the fun flowing in you again. You remember what it was like to be a college girl, and what did you do in college, hm? Come on, you know I know, ‘roomie,’ but I want to hear you say it.”
She sighs. “Oh, Trish, Trish. You want me to be a party girl again? Sorry, but aren’t we a little too old to get wasted?”
“There’s your problem!” Trish says, playfully tapping her on the shoulder. “You’re such an old lady. Don’t let your brain, your soul, become old too. I’m not telling you to become some ditz. All I’m saying is that you can be an adult most of your life, but take time to be a party girl again. Besides, I hear Rob was quite the party animal in his college days, too.”
“Oh, yeah? And when did you hear that?” Dawn asks, with a smirk.
“After a few shots of vodka with you, of course,” Trish responds. She then sighs and looks out to the kids. “I got a great nanny for Christie. She can watch over your kids for you, too, if you want. We’re having a party here at the house. It’s to let us remember the good old days. Lots of music, lots of drinks, tons of action.”
“Really, now? In this posh neighborhood?”
Trisha waves her off. “Let the neighbors complain, but most of them are going to be here.”
“That’s quite the guest list, then. The college kids, too?”
“Oh, especially the college kids. Can’t have an authentic party without partiers around. Strictly over 21, of course. No booze, no fun, is what I say. But, what do you say? Dawn?” She places her hand on her friend’s thigh. “Will you consider coming over?”
Dawn shifts, gripping the arms of her chair, biting her lip. “I’ll have to talk to Rob about it,” she admits. “I can’t promise anything.”
“Well, my friend, I can promise you that it’ll be an experience like no other. That, of course, I can guarantee.” She sips her drink once more.
“We’ll have to have my kids meet the nanny early, alright?
“Oh, of course. She’s quite a dear. Very lovely, studying early childhood development at the school. Shame she can’t join the party, but I’m paying her extra that day for the trouble.”
Dawn notices how wistfully her friend looks off at the end of that and coughs. “You know what? I think I will talk to Rob about it. Perhaps having day off might do us both some good.”
“That’s the spirit. Just don’t come over here expecting us to play crochet or corn toss.”
“Trisha. Did you think I thought you turned white?”
Trisha laughs and leans back. “Oh, there’s no way you could accuse me of that. Nope, haha!”
Dawn smiles and leans back herself. “Is the pool going to be open?”
“Oh, you know it will be.”
“I’ve gotten fat.”
“Oh, no you didn’t!” Trisha said, standing up. “Don’t you go saying that. Not when you got me to look at.”
“You’re not fat, Trisha.”
“Damn right, and neither are you. We’re perfectly proportioned. Now, let’s let call these little munchkins over and figure out what we’re doing for lunch. I’m thinking they’ll enjoy a nice little restaurant, don’t you think?”
Dawn returns home with Joshua and Samantha in tow just in time to see Rob pulling up into the driveway behind them. She looks at her watch and frowns. He’s usually not home until another hour. “Alright, Joshy, you can go play your video games, now.”
