Chapter 26

(Septham 1st Year 672 of the 4th Age)

The part of the city the party members enter through reeks of fish. Streets are narrow with many branching paths and alleyways ready to snatch anyone unfortunate enough to be lost or provide refuge from those on the run. Many clothes are hanging above the pathways on the clothesline attached to the building across from each other.

"First order of business is to find a place to spend a few nights."

"I like the sound of it, Jemeir," Kaera said. She is not feeling well ever since on the second day of travel from Acrine Village, and now it is starting to progress further, desiring a place to rest.

"You feeling all right?"

"I am coming down with a cold, Arven. All I need is a place to rest, and I'll be fine." Actually, it's more personal than a cold, one that I don't want to put you and the others on the spot if I'm correct.

"I can get medicine if you want me to."

"That won't be necessary, but thanks, Sylfinas."

"Well, if you ever need it, give me a holler."

"I'll keep that in mind."

They try two different taverns. The first one has no rooms available. The second one has rooms, but the building is absolutely horrendous. They decide that it will be the last resort and press further into the city. The next tavern they walk into is The Drunken Seagull. The location of the building is closer to the docks, therefore more expensive. Their first impression of the indoor dining room, clutter. Every space on the wall has at least one thing on it, either a fish or some pieces or pictures related to sailing. The windows are circular. The place, to its credit, does maintain a culture of cleanliness. To their luck, there are enough rooms available for everyone… for a price. The grand total for a one night stay, including a stable for the two horses, is thirty gold. Jemeir and Radclyff pay for four nights.

Kaera splits from the rest of the group. "I'll see all of you tonight for dinner, I hope."

"My offer still stands."

"Appreciate the offer, Sylfinas, but Fenri are a hearty bunch. We don't need much to get rid of a simple cold. A good rest is all it takes."

"Still, take care."

"I will, Jemeir. I'm more worried about the rest of you navigating this place."

"We'll keep close and try not to make ourselves look like an easy target."

Kaera heads up the stairs and locates one of their rooms. She opens the door, shuts it, and locks it. The feeling from a couple days ago is getting stronger. Her equipment is on the bed, and she strips down to her underwear. She confirms her suspicions as she inspects her dripping-wet panties and her pussy juice leaking in copious amounts, pooling on the floor. Dammit! I'm in heat. I don't want to put any of them in an uncomfortable situation. What to do about it?

For starters, Kaera removes the remaining pieces of clothing from her and tosses them in a pile. That did little to quell the burning sensation in her loins. She starts to touch herself, hissing at how sensitive her slit is. Her action only causes her to become even wetter than previously. Here it goes. She holds back the urge to moan as a couple of her fingers slide into her pussy. The fingers don't go deep in at first to satisfy her. That left after a few minutes. She pushes her fingers deeper into her vagina, causing her body to shiver. Her masturbation progresses to a point where she's almost fisting herself. The feeling of ecstasy courses throughout her veins, and in a moment of bliss, she lets out a howl of joy, and her pussy expels her juice onto the bed covers while clamping down on her fingers like a mousetrap. She breathes heavily as her heat subsides, and she thinks she's in the clear. After a minute or two, it comes back, fiercer than before.

Kaera shoves her already hand back into slit more aggressively to counteract her urges to locate the nearest male and have him breed her, giving her his seed to have pups. Every finger in her pussy touches the erotogenic areas such as near her anterior walls, vulva, clitoris, and cervix. Discerning her erect nipples, her free hand proceeds to rub them, relishing the sensation, especially when she pulls and releases them. Her body quakes as one of her fingers near her urethra accidentally caress the spongy tissue constricting the path for urination. That felt amazing. She touches it again, and the identical response occurs to her delight. All fingers at her pussy are now stroking the urethral sponge instead of most of her genitalia, resulting in elevated rhapsody in her visage as she achieves another orgasm and temporary relief.

Kaera's heat rages on almost instantaneously as she lays in bed, wondering what to do next. She looks around the entire chamber, scouring from her bed for anything to mollify her cycle. Any remotely phallic-shaped objects in the vicinity are out of a material too rough or too risky in shattering. Luckily for her, the room contains a private bathroom, so she migrates over there, leaving a trail of pussy juice behind her.

Within the bathroom, Kaera beholds a bottle with contents inside, sitting on a shelf near the tub. It matches her requirements for an impromptu sex toy, causing her to lick her lips. Forefeeling about causing a mess on herself, she prepares a bath, permitting the water to flow slowly while she exploits the bottle in unintended ways.

Already slick from her juices, Kaera effortlessly slides the bottle into her vagina, moaning merrily at the object within her. As she slides it in and out, she imagines a male in her head penetrating her explosively, uttering wanton words from both perspectives. The dominant side speaks first. Oh yeah. You like having my fat cock in you, you slutty bitch. Grrr, so tight.

"Nngh."

Does the bitch want me to go faster and harder?

"Yes."

I'm not hearing any begging.

"Please! I want more!"

Roleplaying the dominant side, Kaera masturbates more forcefully with the bottle, continuing her lascivious talk in her head. I'm going to fill you to the brim with my cum when I'm through fucking you.

"Breed me, please."

Does the bitch want to receive my pups?

"Fuck me like the bitch you say I am."

You don't sound like you want it.

"I do want it." Kaera escalates her speed at shoving the bottle in her vagina.

Then convince me.

"I want it. I want you to fill me with your thick cock and your seed. I want your pups!"

That's more like it. I'm about to…!

Kaera achieves her most powerful orgasm yet in her masturbation session, blacking out briefly from the euphoria coursing through her veins. When she regains consciousness, she's wondering if people could hear her ribald speech from their rooms, fearing they would knock on the door. Then she realizes the bottle top protruding from her vagina is open. The room reeks of sweet fruits from the mess, and the covers are more saturated than before from her juices. After cleaning up the bottle's contents, she heads to the bathroom to cleanse herself, believing that her ordeal is over.

As Kaera bathes, she groans that her loins are burning again as if it didn't buy the improvised dildo as legitimate mating. She resorts to fingering herself, focusing almost exclusively on her urethral sponge while fondling her breasts with one hand, and utilizing it to raise her nipples closer to lick them individually. While fighting to stave off her biological clock, she submerges in the water, where it muffles her moans from climaxing. She emerges, gasping for air and contemplating her situation as another wave rapidly approaches. "This is going to be a long day."

Meanwhile, in the busy streets, Arven, Jemeir, Merrick, Radclyff, and Sylfinas slowly make their way to the docks.

"Why can't we just find someone closer to where we are staying who can take us?"

"Because Merrick, most sailors tend to stay closer to the docks so they can keep an eye on their ship. We will have more chances of success when we get there. I've been using this city for sailing purposes during my adventuring days, so I know what I'm doing. Hey Radclyff, tell them about the time you first experienced Port Direrun with me."

The Fenri points Jemeir at a business. "How about we take a quick stop at that potion shop up ahead."

"What for?"

"To see about getting some remedies for seasickness."

"That is a good idea. We'll wait out here while you go in."

"Thanks. It won't take me long." I know that Kaera's in heat, and it's a strong one. I'm more interested in getting stuff to help her instead. At least the seasickness gives me a reason to look for them.

He goes inside the shop called Pilto's Herbedashery. The other four find a nearby bench to sit on and wait. Minutes go by, more than what they thought for him to be done.

"He's been gone much longer than expected."

"Be patient, Merrick," Jemeir responded. "He can take care of himself. Most likely, he's getting roped into buying more items than he needed." I need to give him another refresher.

All four can hear commotion further up the street they are on. A child wearing a tattered cloak runs past them, bobbing and weaving between the feet of other people with ease. Further behind the child, guards are warning people to step aside. Most people end up getting shoved.

"Thief!"

"Stop that girl!"

"Get back here!"

"Alert the rest of the guards!"

"Out of our way!"

These are some of the commands they are shouting as they are pursuing the girl. Sylfinas joins in.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm going to capture the thief, dad."

"Dad wants us to stay here. You're just going to get lost, and I have to save your ass again."

Sylfinas is already on the hunt. "What's that, Arven? Couldn't quite catch that. I'll be right back."

"Sylfinas!"

Jemeir puts his hand on Arven's shoulders. "Let him go."

"Why?"

"I don't feel like finding more than one person."

Radclyff returns a short time later. "Sorry about that. The person behind the counter wanted to add more things to my order. I set him straight eventually and got what I wanted."

"Good to hear. Looks like you still learned your lesson to this day."

"Indeed I have, Jemeir. Where's Sylfinas?"

Jemeir lets out a sigh. "Chasing after a thief. Let's make sure he doesn't get into more trouble and go back into finding us a smuggler."

Sylfinas continues his chase throughout the streets of Port Direrun. "Excuse me. Pardon me. Apologies," he said to the people in his way. He thinks he hears the girl laughing as she flees. She thinks this is all a game to her. A couple of times, he almost loses the trail as he, the girl, and the guards navigate the streets and alleyways.

"Hey Sariel, think you can help me out?"

"With what?"

"I'm chasing a thief that is a small girl wearing a tattered cloak. See her up ahead?"

"Barely."

"Know any shortcuts to catch her?"

"No. What do I look like, a navigator?"

"Thought I ask."

"Well, here's your chance. Look up."

The chase leads him and the girl to a market square where the congested streets open up to allow more breathing room. A rooftop guard nearby is aware of a chase in progress and notches an arrow. He acquires the target and pulls and releases the projectile. It strikes the girl in the leg, hindering her speed as she bolts into a branching path. Sylfinas loses sight of her but follows a blood trail. The trail leads him to an alley and ends behind a barrel. The girl looks up at him with a terrified look in her eyes. She attempts to run, but the pain from the bolt in her leg causes her to trip.

"Please don't hurt me!" she begged.

"I won't. Scratch that, I'm going to pull that bolt out, and it will hurt. Just suck and hold your breath when I tell you."

"Ok."

"On three, I'll pull. That's when you need to do it. One, two, three, now!"

The girl obeys his command, and Sylfinas removes the bolt. She resists the urge to scream but still makes some noise. She pants right after. More blood continues to pour out.

"Can you use some of your healing magic on her, Sariel?"

"I can lend you one use. Just need to touch her wound and say 'Divine Nature: Cure Wounds,' and it'll do its job."

He feels a surge of divine energy, and he reaches out, touching the wound on the girl's leg. "Divine Nature: Cure Wounds!"

The wound closes, and the blood flow ceases. "Thanks, mister," the girl praised Sylfinas.

"Call me Sylfinas." He now gets a better look at her. She can't be older than ten years. She is a Human, but she also has features resembling a fox. One fox feature he can see is her eyes. Her ears sticking out of her blonde hair are also a feature befitting of the vulpine. The ears have a bit of fluff growing inside. He can see her cloak move behind her, and a fox tail pops out. Most of the color matches her hair except for the end part is white. _A Beastman, or in this case, a Beastgirl, and her parents were a Human and a Ki'Tsun. _The guards appear, and all the pathways are blocked. The girl grips Sylfinas's right leg.

"Hand us the girl, mutt."

"Please don't let them take me," the girl begged.

"What was the crime she committed?" Sylfinas inquired.

"She stole a loaf of bread from Breading Grounds in the Malartham Island district. She must face the harshest punishment by law."

"That wasn't me!"

Sylfinas gets her to shut up. "What's the harshest punishment?" he asked the guard.

"Death," the head guard answered.

"For a loaf of bread?!"

"It was committed in the richer district. The people there want the culprit disposed of immediately."

"What if she gives you the bread back?"

"I don't have any," the girl squeaked.

"Keep quiet, please."

"Not good enough," the guard replied.

"How about money? I know this place allows incidents to slip by if the money's good."

"How much do you have, mutt?"

"What's the price?"

"To make us forget that this ever happened, 220 gold."

"That's too much!"

"Well, I guess she dies then. Hand her over. I have no qualms whatsoever killing a mutt if you refuse."

"What if I take her and teach her right from wrong?"

"That's even worse than returning the bread back."

Sylfinas turns his attention to Hell's Bane. "Any ideas, Sariel?"

"Besides attacking?"

"Besides attacking."

"Hey, who are you talking to? That's the girl's name?"

Sariel appears. "I am Sariel."

One of the guards gets the other guard's attention. "Hey Tericius, I think that mutt's a Keeper."

"That doesn't mean shit to me if he is or isn't."

"But sir, we're going to have trouble if you push him into attacking."

"We have the numbers. Besides, look at his stance. He's not experienced enough. We have years of experience and training."

"I'm warning you right now. Make a move against my Keeper, and I'll send the wrath of Luhai down on you and all the people you care about. We don't want any loss of life, but that's what we'll have to do."

"Let's not get hasty now. Maybe we can reach some sort of agreement."

"Lowering the bribery is a good start."

"Lowest I can go is 107 gold, mutt."

"I still don't have that much," Sylfinas spoke. "How about I give you fifty gold, and I keep the girl."

The head guard shakes his head. "That's not a good enough deal."

"Anybody or any monster that needs disposal?"

"There are plenty of monsters that are causing problems in the city and nearby."

"Name one, and she and I will do it. It's a win-win for you. On the one hand, one less monster causing problems. On the other, two fewer mutts to deal with should we fail. You'll get full credit if the monster is dead."

The guard rubs his chain while contemplating the offer. A smirk appears on his face. "I have one for you. There's a creature in a sea cave close to the city's edge on the mainland called a dologrun. It killed a member of the Aleudras family, and they put a bounty on its head. The reward will be more than enough to let this incident slip through the cracks, assuming both of you live. Complete the assignment and bring its head to me, and you can go about your business along with her. I'll be waiting at an inn called the Salty Pot. It's close to the cave, and you can't miss it."

"Know anything useful of how to go about killing a dologrun?"

"Hell if I know. I'm not the one killing it."

"Thank you anyway."

"Come on, men, first round's on me at the Salty Pot." The rest of the guards cheer and head over to the inn, laughing.

The Beastgirl praises Sylfinas, "Thanks for saving me."

"No problem. Now hand me the bread, please."

"I don't have any. I swear."

"Then what is that you got right there?" He pulls a loaf of bread from her back.

"Alright, you caught me."

"It is wrong to steal and lie."

The child folds her ears and alters her voice to a depressive tone. "I didn't know trying to survive was bad."

"We'll discuss this further. For now, how am I supposed to get back to my party from here?"

The girl's tail wags energetically. "Follow me. I believe you were with your friends at Old Pilto's place, and I know the fastest way back."

"Thank you...uh."

"Myla."

"Myla."

"You're welcome. Now follow me." Retracing their path back to where the rest of the party's last known location, Sylfinas reunites with them.

"Your ass isn't in trouble. Good. I don't feel like rescuing it again."

"Nice to see you too, Arven."

"Now that you are back, we can resume locating a smuggle for you, Arven, Kaera, and Merrick. Who's that with you?"

"She's Myla, dad."

"I see she's a Beastgirl. A cross between a Human and a Ki'Tsun, she looks like."

"You are correct, Radclyff."

"She's the one you were chasing?"

"Yes. I saved her from execution."

"For what?"

"Stealing a loaf of bread from the rich district."

"Excessive. That's the city living to its reputation."

"Well, to save her from immediate death, we ended up signing a deal that can kill us later."

"What did you get yourself into this time?" Arven asked, tired of cleaning up after his adopted sibling.

"Myla and I have to slay a dologrun in a cave closest to the edge of the mainland part of the city. If we live, we are supposed to deliver its head to the guard that gave us the deal. He said he would be at the Salty Pot, which is close to the cave, and we can't miss it."

"How about you can forget that assignment? Guards can't do anything once we're on a ship and we set sail."

"You're forgetting that we're most likely coming back here after delivering Kaera back home, assuming we live."

"There are other port cities that we can choose instead," Merrick suggested.

"True, but smugglers prefer coming here, and we need them to get past Phehan's navy. Besides, I hate leaving things unfulfilled, so I'm doing it."

"So the game plan is this," Jemeir enunciated. "Radclyff and I will go with all of you to face a dologrun. We'll kill it, and you can fulfill the rest of the deal. Then we'll go back to the Drunken Seagull and rest. The next day," he points at Arven, Merrick, and Sylfinas, "the three of you are not allowed to leave the inn while Radclyff and I are out getting you a ship. Kaera can come with us if she wishes, and she is in good health tomorrow."

"Why are you punishing Merrick and me for Sylfinas's mishap?"

"Instead of a punishment, think of it as you two keeping watch over him. If he leaves, let me know. He doesn't need to run off every time someone is about to be killed."

"But dad," Sylfinas complained.

"But nothing. I know you took an oath to spread peace and nonviolent ways to solve conflicts, but you can't be everywhere. People kill people every day. They're doing it right now in this city. They're doing it in Belburn. They're most certainly doing it in Rimehorn. You will never complete your contract with Kaera if you continue to intervene whenever someone is about to kill another person in Port Direrun."

"Fine," the Half-Elf replied in a low, bitter voice.

"Umm, what about me?"

Jemeir remembers about Myla after hearing her voice, and he turns his head down to behold her. "After we kill a dologrun, you're going back home."

"I have no home."

"Then you can stay with us for tonight, then we'll drop you off at an orphanage."

"No! I don't want to go there!"

"Where do you want to go?"

"Wherever he goes." She points at Sylfinas.

"Me?"

Radclyff shakes his head. "I'm sorry, but I can't allow that. He's going on a dangerous journey, and there's a good chance you'll die."

"Don't care. He's a good person. I want to be with him."

Jemeir looks at the sky and notes the position of the sun. "We're burning daylight. We can figure this out the next day. Right now, we got a dologrun to kill."
