Part 9

One week passed since Derek made his decision, and the rest of the anthromorphs were quite curious about how it would be to have an actual chance to make decisions for themselves, rather than having everything governed by the conditioning that they had all gone through. Some had a visceral reaction to the idea of someone getting freedom from the human masters that they had all been taught were better than them, the rightful owners of them all, but most of them were closer to what Alexa’s reaction was, that they could not serve properly without having a real motivation for it. None of them had as strong a reaction as Jade had, though.
Cora shook her head as she passed the lioness in the hallway, the muscular woman obviously tracking down Derek again. Much as she didn’t like the fact that the other feline was constantly trying to stay with the human, she had to admit that Derek was going about this in entirely the wrong way. He was constantly trying to ‘break’ the conditioning by not being there, by trying to stress the bond to the breaking point so that it would snap without him having to do something more drastic.
That’s not how this works. And that makes something worse than a Deviant.
There were various stages of conditioning and Deviants out there. Jade represented the most extreme sort of conditioning that still allowed for some independent thought, where she clung to the rules and traditions so hard that staying away from them started chipping away at her sense of self. Most anthromorphs were closer to what Alexa and Raelyn were, pushed to be loyal, but able to have some sense of self, some idea of what they wanted outside of the things that they were made to want. Others, usually those that were trusted with sensitive missions, had slightly less, but more specialized, conditioning, allowing them far less dependency on regular contact with their masters.
Then there were anthromorphs like her. Deviants, missing that part in the brain that allowed for quick, easy conditioning, often had to fake that they were loyal to their masters because of the fear their lack of conditioning caused. However, that wasn’t the only reason that Deviants spread concern among humans and other anthromorphs. After all, there were two kinds of Deviants; there were the normal ones, like her, that just didn’t connect to the standard conditioning, and then…
Well, then there were the Broken Deviants. They were the dangerous ones, since they basically took the conditioning and flipped it on its head. They could become dangerous, taking the commands to be loyal and interpreting it as something else, something horrifying, becoming killers in some cases. It was very, very rare, but they did not get to that stage without being Deviants, first.
Of course, you have to start as Deviant, and then become damaged by something, and then it might happen, but that’s something that most people forget…
Cora knew that Jade wasn’t a Deviant, but she knew that the other woman could become one if she was treated the wrong way, and worse, she would be the sort that snapped so hard that she could become Broken. Derek was well on the way to messing with her like that, too, and she needed to get the human to try something different.
She sighed. This was more complicated than it should be.
The snow leopard rounded the corner to her office in the estate, about to step inside and get to work for the day, when someone tapped her on the shoulder. She paused, turning around to find Alexa waiting for her.
“Something the matter?”
“Nothing wrong, but something you should know.”
“…What?”
“Elena sent a message from security central,” the rabbit said, holding out a paper. “Something about a small cargo plane coming in?”
“Cargo? That’s…unusual.”
She took the paper, unfolding it. It was a simple print-out, probably done by the wolf just to make sure that there was nothing easily spied on by Anders. Even pacified as he was, the AI could be a problem if he found a loophole in the various commands that they’d given. She read the report quickly.
A cargo plane, alright. Small enough to fit on the strip, but only barely…
Cora ran through her mental notes of what they had. There were plenty of rations and supplies available for food and for the various generators and materializers that they had. They had solar power, they had more than sufficient fuel for the vehicles, and they were more than equipped for ammo when it came to the security drones and the few weapons on the island that she had been able to find and secure.
What the hell are they sending?
Personnel was the only thing that she could think of, but even shipping them in tubes as they had with her and the others, they wouldn’t need a cargo plane.
“Anything else?” she asked.
“Something about the Ardus symbol being on the plane.”
“The – oh, gods, what the hell does Martin want this time?”
That had to mean that Derek’s uncle was sending something long. She shook her head. She could think of nothing good that would come from that man getting involved again.
Still, as the estate manager – and lacking any real sign of Derek around, considering that he was probably off flying an aerodyne for pleasure or something – that meant that it was up to her to deal with it. Rubbing her forehead, she grabbed Alexa by the shoulder and pulled her along. The rabbit yelped at the sudden tug.
“Why me?”
“You’re the personal assistant.”
“Yes, to Master Derek.”
“Well, he’s not here, I am, and I need an assistant.”
“That feels a little silly. Assistant for the assistant?”
“Shut up and grab the keys for one of the trucks.”
#
They were quick to get from the estate to the airstrip, even with the more roundabout route that they took to get there. As much as Derek was right about opening up the escape tunnel to everyone that lived on the island, those that were coming in the plane weren’t necessarily going to be living on the island. On the off-chance that they arrived when the plane was setting down, she didn’t want them to give away the tunnel incidentally to anyone that happened to be paying attention.
Instead, they came in on the bottom side of the tarmac, just as the plane was flying overhead and landing. Alexa gunned the engine, pushing the truck to keep up with the descending aircraft, laughing as she did. Cora just gripped the inside of the truck that much tighter to keep from being bounced around.
“Do you have to do that every time?” she asked.
“I’m a rabbit. We like to go fast.”
“Yes, but you don’t have to race everything.”
“Says the girl that climbs everything.”
“Shut up.”
She still smiled, though. Remembering how they’d met, when Alexa had been on a walk and she’d been up on the ceiling. Or, well, almost on the ceiling; she’d improvised a little shelf for herself that she could wedge into the corners of various rooms to allow her to look down on everything. The humans weren’t so keen on her ability to pounce on them from the damn thing, but Alexa had been nothing if not amused by the potential for silly things with it.
But that was another time, another place. She didn’t have that little wedge anymore, though now that she thought of it, she wouldn’t mind getting it back again. Something to think about for another time.
They overtook the plane as it started slowing down, wheeling around to the edge of the runway and placing themselves where it would have to halt. Alexa was good enough at her job that she picked out just where the gangplank would have to drop, and Cora shook her head in surprise.
“You’re that good.”
“I’m that great, hon.”
“Remind me to take you with me more often.”
“As long as Master Derek doesn’t need me.”
“Or you don’t need him.”
“Don’t blame a girl for having urges, now.”
“I don’t. Just don’t let them go running away with you.”
That was the one thing that Jade did have the right idea about. The human was the only male on the island, and even though it had only been a week since they’d made it safe for the girls to start looking at him differently, it was going to be dangerous for him. Not physically, but more for his endurance and for his dick. There was something about having a human under one’s thumb, sole, whatever, that was an intense aphrodisiac, and she knew that she wasn’t the only anthromorph to feel like that. Jade was needed to keep the others off Derek’s back so that he could have a breather from time to time.
Which isn’t going to happen if he keeps sneaking off ‘for her own good’, the snow leopard thought with a shake of her head. Well, not much that I can do about that until he comes back down.
She hopped out of the jeep just as the plane opened up properly, dropping a gangplank for passengers and opening the bottom for cargo. A human descended from the gangplank, looking around before fixing eyes with her. He strutted down the steps, looking her in the eye with a slight sneer.
“Name?” he asked.
“Cora, Estate Manager, sir,” she responded, forcing herself to add the honorific at the end.
“I’m guessing that Mr. Bronson is busy?”
“Master Derek is currently aloft.”
“That explains the black blur I noticed while being flown in…” The human sighed. “I was hoping to deal with him rather than his servants.”
“He will be avoiding dealing with most of his family for a while. I believe that he feels out of sorts, sir.”
“He shouldn’t. He’s been given everything that he could want.”
“I am sure that he will come around in time, sir.”
Now tell me what the hell you’re here for so I can stop smiling and calling you ‘sir.’ This is annoying.
The stranger shook his head, looking towards the sky as if expecting Derek to just materialize out of nowhere. When the master of the island did no such thing, he sighed again, rubbing his forehead.
“I suppose you’ll have to sign for delivery, then.”
“May I ask what is being delivered?”
“A care package from Martin Bronson. Something about making sure that his nephew is happy with his lot in life.”
That wasn’t going to happen in a million years, she was sure. Despite everything that had been given to him on the island, Derek still wasn’t entirely happy. He was happier since the announcement of what she’d done to make the island more private, yes, but that didn’t mean that he was happy. He seemed to be aware of just how much he was missing on the mainland, and she had caught him staring obsessively at the news more often than not. He was well aware of all the things that were happening out there, and seemed to be compelled to find a way to interact with them if at all possible. Somehow, she doubted that some new toys would be enough to get his attention away from that.
Still, she would not turn down more resources. There might be something in there that she could use to make the island better. The snow leopard nodded, holding out her hand for the tablet to sign. The human obliged, passing it over, and she started reading through the manifest.
There was another anthromorph listed among the cargo contents. A tigress, in this case one with traditional black and orange coloration, named Iris. She would probably be someone dedicated to the house rather than the field, considering that they didn’t have that many anthromorphs focused on keeping the estate in good shape. Some of them were volunteering their extra time there, but she couldn’t force that forever, and she wasn’t about to let them all live in dust.
But it was the other stuff that held her attention. Petrification beams, manipulator beams, and more that were better suited for the testing labs than some random island in the middle of nowhere. They were the sort of things that might have been used by some strange mad scientist, or some sadist that was more interested in seeing how he could play with the world rather than live in it. She arched her eyebrows as she read through it.
Petrification beams would be a partial or full paralysis of the target. Some humans would use that on us just to stiffen us into living statues for a while, or fuck dolls, I suppose. The manipulator stuff, just randomly picking us up and moving us around like toys…
They were things that most humans would have used to show their superiority over their anthromorph servants, and she could imagine Martin Bronson or any other anthro-fucker using them gleefully, showing off just what a superior human could do to their toys. The manifest continued, going through all kinds of little toys and trinkets and gadgets that might have been used to push an agenda of being over the rest of them.
“Is this everything?” she asked.
“As far as I am aware.”
“With your permission, sir, I’d like to look through the cargo pods before taking them to the estate.”
“What for?”
“Security, sir, for the sake of the master.”
“…”
“And to ensure that I can deliver him a proper list of what has been sent. There are times when extra things fall in, and it would be best not to surprise him.”
“I suppose the ungrateful whelp could be forgiven for wanting to know what he’s getting .Go ahead. Just let me know when you’re done.”
Of course, the human wasn’t about to help with the unloading. That was for the laborers to do, for those that were less to take care of. Cora shook her head, gesturing for Alexa to follow her to the cargo gangplank as the human went back into the plane proper.
“They don’t like pitching in much, do they?” Alexa asked.
“No, they never do.”
“One more way that Master Derek’s better.”
“Do you like calling him ‘master’, by the way?”
“It’s nice enough. Even though I prefer him calling me with that new title.”
It was something that they had all liked, when it came right down to it. Even the conflicted ones like Jade had enjoyed the chance to be called ‘mistress’ rather than being referred to just by name or species. It was a thing that was never accorded to them elsewhere, and they rather liked it.
Cora knew that she had started something that would be difficult for other humans to grasp, or even accept, but she also knew that if this spread through the island, and then through any of the other anthromorphs on the mainland, then there was going to be something like a revolution. She doubted that any of them would be able to go back to the old ways after they had a chance to live like this.
They entered the plane, going through the various cargo pods. She handed the manifest over to Alexa once she had it memorized, then started popping the different containers open. The rabbit, on the other hand, turned to the standing pod that had the newcomer in it.
“Do you think she’s going to fit in?” Alexa asked.
“I think she’ll learn to.”
“She’s probably not like you.”
“No, but even if she’s like you, I think we’ll make it work.”
“Hmmm…I think Master Derek will like her, too.”
“Why’s that?”
“She’s got a nice pair of feet.”
“He likes more than that.”
“But he really likes that.”
She chuckled. It was something that she enjoyed about him, at least once she had the chance to indulge. Keeping him underfoot was surprisingly easy once they got started, and having him stay there was even easier. His tongue was more eager for her toes than the scientists had been for her pussy or mouth; it was enjoyable to have him working over them, sucking on them, and she had fingered herself to more than one orgasm to that feeling.
Making a mental note to start researching different positions that would allow her toes to get sucked while still having that big dick in her pussy, she started filtering through all the different pods. There were plenty of the sadistic and strange devices that she’d seen on the manifest, but more than that, there were dozens of little one-off gadgets that didn’t make much sense.
Must have just grabbed whatever was coming off the assembly lines that was new and sent it off, she thought, tossing a hover-belt over her shoulder. There’s no rhyme or reason to most of this. What the hell is going through Martin’s mind?
She didn’t know, but she knew that it was probably an attempt to manipulate her current ‘master’ to make him into something that was more socially acceptable by the other rich people of the world. She doubted that little trinkets were going to be enough for that, though. Much as Derek was a non-confrontational person, he wasn’t the sort that could be just bought out like that. He needed something better, something more.
She was still trying to sort out what half of the devices were when something caught her eye. Cora paused, brushing some of the other beam emitters out of the way to find something buried further down, something that shared a similar design to –
Oh, my…
It was another emitter, yes, but this wasn’t the same as the others. This had a more practical use. She tilted the weapon from side to side, the black-sheathed frame looking rather well-polished, and the silver top gleamed in the lights of the plane. She already knew that it wasn’t dangerous – at least, not in the traditional sense – or it wouldn’t have been shipped out. But if it was what she thought it was…
“Hey, Alexa?”
“Hmmm?”
“Do you know much about shrink rays?”
“I follow all kinds of stories and holo-fics about shrunken men at the feet of powerful women. What do you think?”
“Do you know what the latest model is called?” she asked, tilting the emitter on its side.
“Uh, the XK14, I think.”
“Bingo,” Cora muttered, looking at the lettering on the side.
“What? Oh, whoa, whoa, dear, don’t tell me –”
“We’ve got a shrink ray on our hands.”
Knowing what was coming, Cora jumped straight up. She narrowly managed to avoid the tackle coming from behind, and the rabbit all but ploughed into the wall of the plane. Alexa groaned, rubbing her face from the impact, and glared up at her. Cora chuckled, her claws keeping her locked to the ceiling for a moment more before she let go.
“Don’t try that with someone that knows how you think.”
“Come on, hon. You know I’ve been dying for something like that.”
“Oh, I know. And you’ll get your chance, don’t worry.”
“…Oh, I know that look. You’ve got a plan, dear?”
“Yes, yes, I do.”
“What for?”
“I think I might have found a way to help slip some of our girls out from under their conditioning.”
“Ooooh, do tell.”
“After the human and plane leaves. Let’s keep packing this up for now.”
#
They got the tigress – Iris – woken up and dressed shortly after they were done getting all the gear packed into the truck. There was barely enough room for the most key items, and most of it still had to be stashed in the warehouse for later pick-up. The human delivery-man didn’t seem best pleased with leaving valuable equipment lying around, but he didn’t question them on it. He probably put it down to ‘anthro laziness’, as most humans did.
As the plane left after refueling, they took off through the forest path. Iris was quick to start questioning them, curious and bright-eyed, curvy and soft-featured as the rest of them, but inquisitive as could be.
“What’s it like out here? It’s really warm, does that mean that we don’t wear much? Does the master like to keep us in bikinis, or is this somewhere where we get to do what we want for clothing? What kind of things does he like? What will he want me to do?”
“Calm down, hon, calm down,” Alexa said, chuckling. “Aren’t you an eager beaver?”
“Sorry, just…excited, hehe.”
Clearly, Cora thought as they pulled up to the estate. The tigress was obviously inexperienced, bright-eyed and happy as could be as she hopped out of the truck. She started darting around the grounds, peering through the windows into the smaller homes that the other anthromorphs stayed in. She was everywhere at once, zipping about. The snow leopard rolled her eyes as she got out of the truck, pulling the XK14 with her.
“You think that you can handle her?” she asked the rabbit.
“I think I can keep her under control, dear.”
“Good. I think Derek might be back, judging by the fact that Jade’s not pacing everywhere. I’ll send Traci and a few others out to help you unload.”
Getting a nod back from the rabbit, Cora did as she said, making her way into the estate house. She found Traci in the kitchen and sent the mink out, as well as a few others that were hanging around and doing nothing. No point in having idle hands at the moment. She made her way through the house, tracing the smells that were left behind.
Derek was definitely back, and smelling a bit sweaty, too. Probably had something of a ‘workout’ on the way back from wherever he’d been flying. Jade was on the same track, which meant that they were probably together.
All the better for this.
She tracked them to one of the rec rooms in the manor, where the human ‘master’ was playing a rather complicated game of pool. Rather than the old style where it all lay on one table, and the balls were just bounced around in a simple two-dimensional arc, this one floated them in a limited anti-gravitational field, allowing for trick-shots that required a great deal of understanding and physics mastery to actually pull off. Surprisingly, Jade was playing with him. And winning.
“How did you get that good?” Derek asked, staring as the lioness pulled off a shot that ricocheted off six different orbs and pocketed five of them.
“A lot of hard work. And a lot of studying how bullets work.”
“Worked, you mean.”
“No, work.”
The snow leopard chuckled, shaking her head. Derek really did forget how many people still kept to actually deadly weapons these days. Just because the corporations marketed the different ‘non-lethal’ solutions that they did didn’t mean that the old style wasn’t still useful.
Of course, that chuckle did get their attention drawn to her. She waved her free hand.
“I just got back from the air field. There was a delivery from your uncle, Derek.”
“Master Derek,” Jade muttered, lining up her next shot.
“It’s fine, Jade. What…kind of delivery?” Derek asked.
“A lot of different gadgets. A couple of beam weapons, too.”
“Weapons?” Jade asked, stopping her shot before she could hit the ball. “What kind of weapons?”
“Nothing lethal. Petrification beamers, manipulation emitters…oh, and this.”
She held up the ‘pistol’ that she’d been carrying. She tilted it so that the model number on one side was visible for the lioness’s side, and for her own. She didn’t want to get tackled out of a pre-programmed response about weapons in the presence of the master.
Thankfully, no such thing happened. Derek cocked his head to the side, obviously clueless, while Jade blinked.
“That’s not an Ardus product, is it?”
“No, no, it’s not. I don’t know why it was in the shipment, but there we go,” Cora said, shrugging.
“Why – oh, no, no no.”
“Heh, you see where I’m going with this?”
“That’s not a good idea.”
“I think it’s fine. This model’s got a re-grow function.”
“But what if he’s smashed flat?”
“Uh, girls? Would someone mind telling me what you’re talking about?” Derek interrupted.
Cora glanced back at the human, then looked back at the lioness. She hefted the XK14 again, twiddling it about a few times. The gesture was clear: Should I?
After a few more grumbles, Jade slowly stepped out of the way. She gripped the wall, almost like she was fighting her own compulsion to be between the snow leopard and her master, and it was clearly doing some damage to the wall. Her strength was beyond a regular anthromorph’s by some way, and she was going to rip a hole through that wall if she wasn’t careful. At the same time, the tacit permission had been given.
“Well, Derek…how about I show you?”
And with that, she lifted the weapon and pulled the trigger.
#
Derek had been rather lost during the conversation, and was more confused than anything else by the idea of his uncle sending more things to the island. He had gone flying specifically to clear his head a bit, and now, he was just as muddled as he had been before taking off.
Martin wants me to have more things…but why?
He knew that his uncle was tight-fisted, controlling, wanting the family to stay under his thumb, but at the same time, he had seen the older man push to make things good. Never doing a very good job of it, admittedly, but trying to make things good. Hell, the whole point of sending him off to this island was to get some peace and harmony with the rest of the family, trying to show him how good they had it as a family with all the advantages that they’d gained with their lifestyle. It wasn’t a good way to try and get him to agree with his uncle, but it was better than the out and out abuse that some families went through.
But sending him different gadgets and stuff was not making a lot of sense. And the XK14, whatever that was, seemed to be the weirdest of them, particularly with how both Cora and Jade were acting.
Before he could get an explanation out of them, Cora shot him with it, and he stumbled backwards, half-expecting to look down and see a hole through his chest. All the fearsome things that one heard about Deviants came rushing through his mind, and he worried that he had made a horrible mistake trusting the snow leopard after finding out what she was. He grabbed for the point of impact…
And found no hole.
Instead, he found himself staring at his hands as his skin started glowing, and the more that he watched, the more that he realized that he was changing. His shirt was getting looser, clinging to him less and less, and he realized what the XK14 was: a shrink ray.
“How…how…”
His voice wasn’t getting higher, but it was getting quieter as he started to shrink away into his clothing, slowly slipping further and further into the folds of the shirt. His pants had already failed in all ways to cling to his waist, falling down around his ankles, and the long shirt was now more than long enough to reach his thighs. He had lost over a foot of height and was still losing more, shrinking away.
Jade finally let go of the wall, and she stared at him in a very different way. She had always been direct, always been loyal, always had that look of extreme control on her face. Now, however, there was something different. She looked…more predatory, more like she was feeling a different instinct. And she looked confused.
What’s happening to her?
Derek didn’t have time to think of that for long. He’d already dropped down from six feet to five, and now was passing four, and heading to three. His clothes were a useless pile of cloth, now, and he climbed out of them before they could drown him in fabric. Naked as could be, he blushed as he felt more on display. His cock, something that had given the girls quite a bit of pleasure before, felt tiny as he shrank down.
Three feet to two, then to one and a half. He was still gradually falling down, down, down, and both Cora and Jade were like giants to him. They loomed so far over him that they might as well have been monsters compared to the tiny little being that he had become. If he hadn’t known that they were good people, if he hadn’t already trusted both of them in huge ways, he would have been terrified. As it stood, he was still more than slightly nervous, particularly as his height dropped to under the levels of their knees.
“He’s so…small,” Jade whispered.
“Yep. Durable, too; this model keeps the molecular integrity. I think it might actually make him tougher, pushing all his parts together more firmly.”
“He could take…punishment, then?” the lioness asked, almost whispering the word as if she was afraid to say it.
“Um…”
He finally stopped dropping in size at a height of three inches, shorter than his middle finger had been but a moment ago. His cheeks were bright red, and he swore that his blush was spreading down the rest of his body. It was…weird. Particularly to look up at the women that he had towered over before.
Jade leaned down, her face a picture of confusion and interest and need all at once. She looked so…different, too. She cocked her head to the side, and then gasped.
“What? What’s the matter?” Derek asked, looking around, then at himself. “Did something happen?”
“Derek – Derek.”
She hadn’t said ‘master’. His eyes went wide, too, and he slowly looked back at the lioness. They stared at one another, then as one, turned to the snow leopard, who looked eminently pleased with herself. Derek took a deep breath.
“Jade? Could I stand on your hand?”
“Um…sure.”
The stunned lioness lowered her hand to the ground, and he climbed on. Holding onto her thumb, he rode up as she stood up again.
“Cora…what just happened?”
