Kate and the Monsters, P4: The Angry Mob

After her night adventure Kate returns briefly to a semblance of her human life, before she must leave it again.

Kate opened her eyes once more. Daylight streamed in through her bedroom window. She was tucked up in bed, and muzzily putting her mind back together.

It's daylight… wait, I'm gonna be late for work! Why didn't my alarm ring…

Kate noticed her bed felt _very_ damp. When she moved under the covers to find a dry spot, it actually felt uncomfortable against her skin, until eventually that spot became damp too.

Oh wait…

Kate stretched her arm out in front of her face, and saw it was bright orange with green splotches, and ended in a webbed hand. She remembered last night's activities at last, and woke up more fully.

Right, I'm a big newt now.

Kate blinked and looked around. There were a couple of imps cosily sleeping atop the covers of her bed. Two more were looking at her from the head board. Their presence was oddly comforting. She knew the others were out there, not too far away from her care.

The imp chimera heard footsteps. Someone was coming up the stairs. Each step creaked and groaned, as if pressed under a massive weight. One broke with a dull crunch, and the girl heard her mum cursing.

A huge bipedal triceratops opened the bedroom door and ducked to step in.

“Heyyyy… mum…" said Kate, looking away from Sara's expansive, buxom, naked body with a slight blush, despite all they had gone through yesterday.

Sara smiled and put down a comparatively tiny tray with food on it, balancing it on Kate's lap atop the covers.

“Ohh, wow, thanks!" exclaimed her daughter. Then she noticed it was bugs on toast. Still moving.

“Uhhh… that's…"

It looked delicious. The wriggling woodlice, the slugs, the squirming caterpillars, all drenched in butter. If anything, the creatures looked more tasty than the bread.

“Your little guys found the ingredients for me," said Sara. Another imp climbed from Sara's thick-scaled back onto her shoulder and stood there like a triumphant pirate's parrot.

Kate carefully shifted in bed to get into a better position to eat. Her six orange and green breasts popped out from under the covers. The girl coyly covered the highest, largest four with her arms.

She looked back on the sinful, perverse events of last night. She dimly remembered Lacu untying her limp, deeply satisfied, slightly sore body from his harness, kissing her with his beak and her imps carrying her into her house. A cute end to such a dirty, shameful, yet liberating night.

There was a polite knock on the front door.

“Whoops, they're earlier than I expected," said Sara.

Kate leaned over to the window and poked her snout through the curtains. There was a crowd of people, a sizeable chunk of Newkome's human population, patiently waiting at their front entrance.

“An angry mob," continued the triceratops monster. “I phoned around and tipped them off this morning. I didn't want Amy to think she'd have to betray you or something."

“They… don't look angry, mum. A bit embarrassed really."

“Still, we'll have to get chased out of town. Sorry, you'll have to eat pretty fast."

Every morning in Newkome, the monsters would be gone. The village's unwritten, ancient laws specified that the beasts owned the night, but they would be gone by dawn. Humans needed to feel safe during the day.

Kate bit into her wriggling breakfast. Everything was about to change, she thought, as she savoured the mixture of invertebrate textures and flavours. They'd never be able to return home. All her human stuff, that should stay with the humans.

The young chimera finished her crawling breakfast, took a deep breath, hauled herself out of bed and and dropped her arms, allowing her naked, monster body to go on display.

“Are you excited?" asked Sara with a broad, beaky grin.

“Yeah. Let's go."

“Errr… Kate? Sara?" called out Carl, one of Kate's many friends and now reluctant leader of the impromptu mob. He looked for reassurance back at the mass of faces, particularly to the one or two reptilians in the mass. Nowadays, a handful of kobolds and lizard folk lived in the village with the humans. They actually backed the daylight ban on the monsters, despite being, well, a bit monstrous too. It was somewhat complicated.

“I think they already lef-“

The front door exploded as a triceratops monster barged through it. The beast charged half way down the garden path, roared and looked upon the mass of humans as they screamed and scattered.

“Too much, mum!" hissed Kate from up on her back. “_We're_ supposed to be getting chased by _them_!"

“Yeah," said the giant with a slightly power-mad chuckle. She waited for the mob to reform. When that was clearly not going to happen, Sara trotted away with her daughter, leaving the early morning streets for the nearby forest.
