Days turned to weeks, and one night, after a pleasurable movie – and more than a few kisses during said movie, Willow leaned in close to his lover and sighed softly, then dabbed at his dark brown eyes with the edge of a finger.

“Aww, you big softie," Daniel playfully chided him.

Willow sniffled, then grinned weakly. “I can't help it, I'm sentimental and I love a happy ending..."

Daniel chuckled and leaned in close, playfully breathing on the fine hairs of Willow's right ear.

“It was a great ending and - “ Daniel paused for a moment, his hand intertwined with Willow's paw. “Are you hungry my love? I know this amazing little restaurant down the street – it's not far and - “

Willow's ear flicked and he gave a shy grin. “I am a bit peckish – that popcorn was nice - “

“All six buckets...that much salt and butter - “ Daniel shuddered.

Willow giggled and looked down. “I'm a growing deer - “

With a chuckle, Daniel kissed Willow deeply and passionately, before holding both his paws in his hands, gazing into Willow's eyes.

“Only growing you'll be doing – is out – I just don't know where you put it all! You eat ten times anyone I've ever known, yet you – still maintain that lithe, beautiful figure!"

Willow squeaked and blushed, his inner ears turning crimson. Daniel laughed, he couldn't help it – that adorable squeak Willow had, just made him love his Cervid all the deeper.

“Dinner?" Daniel suggested.

“Sure!" Willow nodded, then happily followed Daniel down the street, the two lovers arm in arm.

*

Daniel sat opposite Willow in the restaurant, the two of them in a secluded corner booth. Dim mood made it dim, the lightly scented candle burning in the middle of the table, filling the surroundings with its beautiful fragrance. Willow sipped nervously from a bowl of water, then set it down, gazing into the flickering candle flame. It's flame accentuated Willow's beautiful eyes – eyes that Daniel found irresistible to look away from. A quiet song played, adding ambiance to the romantic setting. Carefully, Daniel reached over and took both Willow's paws in his own, holding them gently.

“You look stunning tonight, my love - “ Daniel murmured.

Willow blushed, his leaf-like ears flicking as they once again went a salmon pink.

“That blush you do - “ Daniel continued, using his thumbs to lightly caress Willow's paws. “It's simply adorable..."

“Thank you my sweet," Willow squirmed and giggled shyly. “You're not too hard on the eyes yourself you know!"

Daniel smiled, then gestured for the nearby waiter. He waited patiently whilst Willow looked over the menu, flipping the pages back and forth, biting his lower lip nervously.

“I assure you, sir," Spoke the Waiter politely. “All our meals are made according to strict dietary requirements for our dining guests."

“Oh, um..." Willow stammered, then closed his eyes and randomly pointed at something.

Leaning over, the Waiter nodded, then turned to Daniel, who gazed at Willow, then nodded.

“Whatever is good enough for my dear, sweet Cervid, I'm sure I'll enjoy myself, thank you!"

“Of course, sirs, anything to drink?"

Willow shook his head, Daniel ordered a nice craft brewery lager. With a half bow, the waiter write down their orders and politely collected the menus.

Daniel's drink arrived, and he lifted it, smelling the bouquet from the lager then took a sip.

“How is it?" Willow asked, leaning forwards.

“Almost as heavenly as you, my dear deer - “ Daniel smiled, setting it down.

“I'm not dear - “ Willow murmured.

“I'd politely disagree - “ Daniel laughed quietly, and stroked Willow's paw. “Cinema food isn't cheap – or healthy – I swear, I've half a mind to get a Veterinarian to give you a checkup!"

Willow snorted playfully through his nostrils, then flicked an ear as that beatific smile crinkled his dimples again.

“Make sure I'm prime breeding stock hey?" Willow said with a deadpan expression.

Willow!" Daniel blushed.

Willow smirked wider, then winked at Daniel, before his ears twitched and he blinked, hearing the quiet footsteps of the approaching waiter.

“Here you are, enjoy!"

Willow looked down at the platter before him, his eyes going wider and wider.

“Having second thoughts my dear?" Daniel snickered, then looked at his own platter. “What...sorry, what is half of this..."

Willow leaned forwards, inhaling the scent of the fruits, vegetables, and specific Cervid foods. “Oh, wow..." Willow moaned, then delicately dabbed at his muzzle with a napkin. “Uh, Daniel my love? I don't recommend it... you eat certain vegetables. They're a rather – Cervid-specific item. I have no idea what they'd do to you..."

Under Willow's guidance, Daniel carefully separated out the things he shouldn't eat, setting them aside.

Willow picked up various pieces of his dinner, popping them into his muzzle and chewing, his expression one of pure bliss. In half the time it took Daniel to sample this and that, Willow had eaten over half the large platter.

“You...scare me - “ Daniel laughed nervously.

Willow looked up, swallowing the piece of capsicum he'd been savoring, then flicked his ears forward. “How so Daniel? Have I done something wrong?"

Daniel smiled at Willow, sensing the Whitetail's growing fear. “No, not at all just... Wow, you should eat a stick of celery and be full! Yet you've eaten over half your dinner in only a few moments..."

Willow smiled nervously. “It's very good, as you can imagine, we Cervid, being herbivores – we need a lot of protein in our diets..."

Daniel choked on a piece of carrot, his face turning a brilliant crimson, as Willow raised an eyebrow and picked up a baby carrot, his tongue twirling around it, then drawing it suggestively into his muzzle, before biting down with a muffled crunch.

*

After a beautiful dinner, Willow leaned back and pet his stomach, moaning softly.

“Greedy little buck, weren't you?" Daniel laughed and looked at Willow, whose belly bulged like he was in fawn.

“Urf – I didn't need half of your dinner too - “ Willow shuddered. “It was so good and...oh, oh no..."

Daniel grinned as the waiter pushed over the dessert tray, on which sat a huge sundae with crushed nuts and caramel drizzling.

“I hope you left some room - “ Daniel smiled, passing over a spoon to Willow, who blinked and looked down at it.

“Cervid don't do desert... Daniel - “ Willow murmured. “For you, my love, I will try..."

Awkwardly, Willow fiddled with the spoon, until Daniel rose and demonstrated how to hold it. Willow was fascinated, then blushed as Daniel leaned over him, showing him how to use the spoon. Willow's tail flagged vigorously against Daniel's groin.

“Uh...Willow..." Daniel gasped, nearly dropping the spoon.

“Huh...oh... I'm so sorry!" Willow squeaked in embarrassment, flattening his ears. “It's got a mind of its own..."

Daniel blushed deeply, thankful for the dim lighting, before he returned to his own seat and sat down, shuddering. Taking up his spoon, he smiled nervously at Willow, who stared enraptured, at his own distorted reflection in the spoon he held.

“Willow my love? The desert is melting..."

*

It turned out Willow really had a thing for desserts...

*

On the ride home, Willow rested with his seat slightly reclined, moaning quietly and in an obvious food-induced coma.

“I've been thinking my love - “ Daniel murmured, as he drove quietly through the mid-evening roads.

“Mmm?" Come Willow's faint moan.

“I'd like - “ Daniel sighed, then laughed nervously. “To meet your parents – as you know, I was orphaned when I was twelve -"

Willow squealed in alarm, then nearly made Daniel drive off the road as he involuntarily slammed on the brakes – the car skidding about eight feet before coming to a stop.

“No, no, no, no - “ Willow whimpered, shaking his head. “Daniel, my adored and cherished mate – anything – I would do anything for you..."

Daniel pulled over, then turned the car off, turning so he could look into Willow's wide, frightened eyes.

“Hey, I was just..." Daniel began, then trailed off. “I didn't mean to scare you, Willow – if you..."

“My parents..." Willow shuddered, then turned his head away. “My..."

“Willow? Honey? Hey, it's alright, I just thought..."

Willow trembled, then glanced back side-eyed at Daniel. “You want..my parents..."

“It's only right, we have been dating for some months now and - “

Willow glanced at the clock, seeing as it was after 9pm; before he sighed and trembled visibly.

“Can you pick me up at, oh, 10, tomorrow morning?"

Daniel started the car, then pulled out and nodded. “Of course, of course, 10, tomorrow..."

Daniel glanced at Willow's profile, the dark glasses hiding Willow's eyes as the headlights of an approaching car nearly blinded Daniel himself, then swished past. He saw a brief glimpse of Willow's slightly down-turned lips and wondered what he'd done to elicit such a response in his partner...

*

Willow hugged Daniel, then kissed him long and deeply, before gently disengaging and sighing softly, cupping his paws before himself as Daniel reluctantly returned to his car. As Daniel drove away, Willow waved his arm, before watching as Daniel's car turned the corner.

“My parents - “ Willow groaned, then reached up and tugged at his ears in exasperation, his muzzle falling open as he moaned softly. “How will I explain them to my dear, sweet Daniel... What will he think of them..."
