Dark Angel Ch.3
#3 of Dark Angel
A town lay in ruins, and the corpses of both humans and furries littered the blood-soaked ground. I sat on the ground, a body in my arms. It was the body of a black wolf; he somehow looked so familiar to me. Who was he? I didn't know who he was but I noticed tears running down my face. Why was I crying?
"This is what will happen in the near future," I heard someone say. A hooded figure descended from a pillar of light and hovered above me.
"Who are you?" I asked him.
"You'll find the answer to that soon enough but what I want to ask you is do you know him?" he pointed to the black wolf in my arms. He was so familiar to me but his name remained unknown to me.
"I don't, but I feel as if he's important to me," I told him.
"You two share a special bond together, one that cannot be broken as any other bond can. Think harder and you'll find the answer to my question," he said. I looked again at the wolf from his handsome face and his well-muscled body, trying to remember his name. Suddenly, a name started to form on my tongue as faded images swam through my head.
"Ka...Kai...Kain...Kain!" the images in my head suddenly became clear as memories of our time together came flooding back to me. I stared at Kain's body and suddenly noticed blood on him. "Kain what happened! Say something!"
"He is only an illusion, an object of your dream. This is only a glimpse of what is to come in the future and you two play an important part in it," the hooded stranger told me. Kain's body slowly dissipated into dust and I was left sitting there, crying over an illusion.
"Who are you?" I asked again. The figure slowly bent down and removed his hood, revealing a white wolf.
"You may call me Alexander, your guardian beast_,"_ he introduced.
"My guardian beast?" I questioned.
"I'm the beast that was granted to you when you and your mate, Kain, bonded with each other. I also apologize for what happened the other day, I lost myself and went berserk after seeing Carlos in danger," he explained.
"Carlos?" I wondered.
"My mate, who is Kain's guardian," he explained.
"Is he a furry?" I wondered. Alexander shook his head.
"He is a human because you are a human. The reason you have a wolf guardian is because Kain is a wolf," he cleared up.
"So you were the one who caused me to slaughter all those innocent soldiers?" I asked. Alexander bowed his head and turned away from me.
"Again, I apologize. When I saw that Carlos was in danger I had to rescue him through your body. I was about to slaughter every one of those bastard soldiers until your mate stopped me," Alexander replied, both of us remembering Kain's kiss.
"I understand how you felt during that time, I would've done the same thing if I was in your position," I reassured, patting him on the back.
"You know you remind me a lot of Carlos. You're just exactly like him: kind, compassionate, and loving," Alexander said, nuzzling me.
"And you remind me a lot of Kain but keep the nuzzling for Carlos," I told him, pushing him away softly.
"It's your mate who is doing it, not I. He is trying to wake you, time to leave this dream," he cleared up. I felt myself being pulled away from the dream world and soon I found myself in my bed with Kain, nuzzling me. I gave him a light kiss to his head and cuddled closer to him.
"Are you all right? You seemed shocked from yesterday and now you act like it never happened," Kain asked, brushing my hair.
"I'm fine Kain it's all behind me now," I reassured.
"You know I had a dream where I was lying in your arms, dead, and you were sobbing over me. Then, you suddenly changed and a different person was cradling me in his arms, though he reminded me a lot of you. He told me he was my guardian and that you were having a similar dream only with your guardian," Kain said.
"You met Carlos, my guardian's mate. My guardian, Alexander, was the reason why I went berserk yesterday. He saw Carlos, you, in danger and had to rescue him through me, and he would've killed every last soldier had you not stopped him," I explained, putting a hand over my chest.
"Carlos also told me that our future was going to get very dark, and that we would play a big part in it," Kain added. I gave him a small nod.
"Alexander also told me the same thing," I replied.
"Be careful someone is outside your door!" I heard Alexander warn. Suddenly, the door was kicked open and in walked a whole group of soldiers along with the prince. Alexander was growling inside me, wanting to shred the prince into pieces.
"What are you doing here!?" I demanded, drawing my daggers and Kain his sword. The prince let out an amused laugh.
"Dear Silnis, do you not remember me? Or course you wouldn't after all these years that we've been apart," the prince told me. What was he talking about? I've never seen the prince in my entire life!
"I don't know what you're talking about!" I denied.
"Maybe this will jog your memory again," he tossed a small, blue cloak at me and it landed softly on the bed in front of me. The cloak was torn, had several holes in it, and had a small inscription sewed onto it. It had my name on it!
Blurred images swam through my head as I tried to remember what this cloak meant to me. I recalled a rainy, dark day in the city and I was running home from a friend's house. It was past my curfew and I knew I would get a beating if my parents caught me. Taking a shortcut through an alley, I ran into a group of furry thugs and would've been dead had it not been for someone. Who was that person who saved me? I tried to remember more but only remembered that my savior had several men with him and they took care of the thugs while he dragged me away. I recalled he had short blonde hair, was fit for a kid, and had a gorgeous face. Suddenly, it hit me; the prince was the one who saved me that day. I remembered after that, we were best friends and he took a liking to me and wanted me to be his lover when we were older but my parents had found out and moved me away from him to Unity. I had forgotten all about him because I had found Kain to replace him in my life.
"Prince...Prince Drake," I said in a soft voice. A grin went across his face, pleased to know that I remembered him.
"Yes, you remember now. Do you remember that night when I saved you from those thugs? Do you remember how we were the best of friends and I asked you to be my lover, but you ran away from me, leaving me heartbroken," Drake asked, stepping closer to me. Kain put himself between us, barring Drake's path and giving him a threatening look.
"Come any closer to him and I swear I'll skewer you," Kain warned, pressing his blade into Drake's gut. Drake showed no sign of fear but hatred towards Kain. Suddenly, I saw a flash of steel and Kain was lying next to me, clutching his bleeding eye. I tried desperately to hold back Alexander but he was too strong for me to resist any longer. He took over and went on a rampage, killing the nearby soldiers in a flash and pinning Drake against the wall.
"You hurt my mate and now you'll die for it!" my voice was a mixture of both Alexander's and mine, though he was the one talking.
"Alexander, don't kill him!" I begged, trying to gain hold of my body again.
"He deserves to die! Both of our mates are now blinded in one eye thanks to him!" Alexander told me. I looked over to Kain to find his bloodied eye perfectly fine, there was only a scar across his left eye that did nothing to impair his vision.
"Alexander they're fine it's only a scar, look!" I had convinced him enough to have him look behind him to see Kain wiping the blood from his eye but having no damage, besides the scar. Alexander calmed down enough for me to get control over my body again. I released my grip on Drake, making him drop to the ground and gasp for air.
I went over to Kain and tore a part of my robe to clean off the blood that he missed. "Are you all right Kain?" I asked, using fire magic to heal the scar.
"I'm fine but...look out!!" I turned around too late to have a dagger impaled into my stomach. I felt a stinging from the blade, poison. Drake had recovered and had caught me by surprise, giving him the chance to stab me. The poison took effect and I blacked out, feeling someone catch me before hitting the floor. I heard Kain call out my name mid-sentence before my mind went blank.
