Kain"s Perspective

*****

It was a normal day and I laid my head back, exhausted from training new recruits. Hearing someone approach me, I looked up to see a human boy walk up to me. Something inside me screamed at the sight of him, making me fall to the ground and clutch my head. What was wrong with me?

"Nothing ails you, only your memories. You seeing me triggered a memory inside you that should've faded away when you died," the boy said, standing over me. Who was this human and what did he mean when I died?

"Who...are you?" I asked. The boy wore a small frown, disappointed.

"I'm surprised you don't remember me, but I am at fault for not being in contact with you as much as Alexander has been with your mate," he said just as an image of a white wolf appeared next to him. "I am Carlos, the spirit guardian that you inherited from your mate. This here is my mate, Alexander, though recent events have caused him to fall into a deep slumber,"

"You're not making any sense. What's a spirit guardian and who is my mate?" I questioned.

"Silnis, is the name of your mate. Now do you remember?" he replied, waving his hand over the image of Alexander to make an image of a human boy, identical to him. Suddenly everything came back to me from the first time we met to my death.

"Silnis!" I cried out, jumping at the image only to have it disperse.

"As I had said before, your bond with each other is unique to the point where it is unbreakable, even in death. Your bond allowed you to keep your memories, only they were sealed away until something triggered them. I was able to trigger those memories because of my similar appearance to Silnis," Carlos explained.

"Where...where's Silnis?" I asked, a look of panic in my eyes. Carlos gestured to the ground where a pool of water showed Silnis lying unconscious next to my still and lifeless body. His father carried him back into the town hall while other townsfolk mourned over my body.

"It's time you go now," Carlos said, the pool of water evaporating. I gave a confused look at him and got a small smile.

"What do you mean? I'm dead aren't I?" I questioned. Carlos didn't say anything but waved goodbye before disappearing. Suddenly, orbs of white light appeared from the ground and stuck themselves to me until I covered in them. A heard a loud ringing noise before a flash of light blinded me and I felt myself being flung somewhere.

I jumped up and heard a few gasps from nearby. My vision came to me and I found myself being stared at by a few townsfolk. What just happened? Was I back alive? I patted my chest and arms to check to see if I was a ghost but I was back alive! I got to my feet and heard a snap from underneath me. Arrows littered the floor around me, some were stained with blood at the tip. I looked at my vest and saw where the arrows had been when I died but were now completely healed. Silnis must have healed me and...Silnis! I ran up the town hall stairs and followed Silnis' scent until I found myself in the mayor's office. Silnis' father was standing over him while a doctor checked him over.

"Silnis!" I cried, making my way to him. I softly pushed the doctor aside and knelt by Silnis' side, holding his hand in mine. His eyes were closed but he wore a smile on his face.

"Kain...you're alive. Then that means Silnis' spell worked," his father said. I looked at him with a shocked expression.

"What do you mean a spell? What did Silnis do?" I asked, looking from Silnis to him. He placed a hand on my shoulder and gave me a grim look, never a good sign.

"I'm sorry Kain, I tried to talk him out of it but he was set on reviving you. He was willing to take the risks to bring you back," his father told me, turning to the door and closing it shut. What did Silnis do?

"Alexander...," I heard Carlos say inside me. Both of our mates were asleep, though when they would wake up is unknown to us. I stayed by Silnis' side all day and had his father's permission to take him to our home. As I laid next to him on our bed, I thought about how weak I was that I couldn't protect him from danger. I needed to get stronger, knowing that our future wasn't going to get any easier together, but where could I train?

"There is someone who could help you, a master in the art of battle. He resides in a city, though it is far. Seek him out and he give you the strength you desire," Carlos suggested.

"But what about Silnis? I can't just leave him here! Drake might return and take him while I'm gone," I argued.

"I never said you had to go alone," Carlos defended. A wave of relief washed over me. That was all I needed to hear to convince me to go. I got up from the bed and over to the desk where a sheet of paper and quill sat, waiting for me. We would leave tomorrow morning, but it would be best if Silnis' father knew where we were going. I couldn't take the chance of him disagreeing our journey. I needed to get stronger, for Silnis.

The following morning, I hoisted Silnis on to my back and headed towards the town hall to deliver my letter. The sun was only a sliver in the horizon and we would leave as soon as possible. I left the letter on the secretary's desk and was soon out of town. I walked with Silnis on my back until Unity was only a small dot behind us. There was no going back now.

"Carlos, how far is this city where this master lives?" I asked him.

"A good three day walk is my best estimate, considering if the weather is calm and there are no dangers ahead," Carlos said. No doubt there would be danger. There's always danger wherever you go. I walked all day, not showing a sign of fatigue, until I made camp on top of a hill. I ate the food I packed and quickly went to sleep, exhausted from today's trek. I didn't need a tent to keep myself warm but Silnis' body was cold from the night breeze. I cuddled next to him, softly nuzzling him. I was use to him giving me kisses or hugging me whenever I nuzzled him, but now he was trapped in sleep, unable to show any affection to me. What did you do Silnis?

For the next two days, I walked endlessly until a city appeared in the horizon. We had finally made it, and without a single complications on the way. Maybe fortune had smiled on us and granted us a swift and safe journey. Walking through the streets, I got a few strange looks from several humans and furries when they saw me carrying a sleeping human on my back. I paid them no attention and searched for what I came for. Carlos directed me to a large building where this master supposedly lived.

"Who is it?" someone asked, upon knocking the door.

"My name is Kain and I seek training with the master," I said. The door opened and there stood a fox. He studied me for a minute and I saw a look of lust in his eyes, interested in me.

"Xeres, who is at the door?" A black panther stepped to the doorway and saw me with Silnis on my back. He was tall, muscular, and had a powerful feeling from him. He must be the master.

"Who are you wolf, and why do you come?" he asked.

"I am Kain, and I wish to train myself under your wing," I repeated myself, repositioning Silnis on my back.

"Who is your human friend here?" he asked, gesturing to Silnis.

"He is Silnis, my mate," I answered him. I saw the fox's facial expression change after hearing that, obviously displeased. The master rubbed his chin, pondering this as if it was interesting to him.

"Why do you wish to train under me?" he asked me.

"I...I want to grow stronger to protect Silnis. Recently, we've both been through a terrible event in our lives and both of our lives are at stake. Silnis has already done enough to help me, yet I couldn't do anything to help him. Please...help me grow stronger so that I can protect him in the future. Because of my weakness he's in this state right now," I explained, my head bowed. A hand fell on my shoulder and I looked up to see a smile on the master's face.

"Normally, I would deny anyone the chance to train under me, but your words have already proved your determination and love for this human. Strength is not always brute force and muscles, but sometimes the will to protect loved ones through any risks. I accept you as my student," he said. My spirit soared at this news and I would've jumped in joy had Silnis not been on my back.

"Thank you Master...,"

"Ren, Master Ren is what you will call me from now on pupil, understood?"

"Yes Master Ren," I said.

"Come inside and lay your friend down. You'll start training immediately after your friend is taken care to," I moved inside and saw how large the interior was. There was a large ring in the center with weapons of all kinds in racks along the side. Both human and furry students did battle with each other in small circles, trying to best one another. Master Ren led me to a small and quiet room with only a small bed and table. He helped me get Silnis off my back and lay him gently on the bed. Xeres stood at the doorway, giving dirty looks at the sleeping Silnis.

"Come, you must start your training with the other pupils. I must warn you though; your first day won't be easy. Many of my previous pupils had quit on their first day, saying it was too difficult for them. Are you sure you want to proceed with it?" Master Ren cautioned.

"I've come all this way and I'm not going to give it up on my first day. I'll see this to the end, for Silnis," I told him, straightening myself and standing tall. He gave me an amused look and pushed me out the door to the training room. The other students were still battling each other until Master Ren called for their attention. They all hustled to him and gave him a bow in respect before listening to his announcement.

"Good afternoon my pupils. This young wolf's name is Kain and he'll train among you all till the end, as he says. I want you all to give him a warm welcome and teach him what I've taught you. So introduce yourself to him when you have the time, dismissed," They all bowed again before returning to their duels. A cat approached me and held her hand out to me.

"Welcome, I'm Alicia, a junior member of Master Ren's school. You know, you're kind of gorgeous for a wolf but I'm more into felines than canines," she introduced as I shook her hand.

"Thanks for the compliment...and you're quite beautiful for a girl," I complimented.

"Oh don't make me blush, besides, I know you're into guys and already have a mate. A human, right?" she asked, leaning closer to me for an answer.

"That's right. Is it a problem?" I questioned. She shook her head.

"No, I actually find it romantic, though I'm straight, but nonetheless romantic," she told me, giggling. "Come on, I'll be your partner for today. You can show me what you got and I'll teach you what I know," She dragged me to an empty ring and tossed a shortsword at me before retrieving her weapon, twin claws.

"Sorry, but I prefer to use my own sword, if that's not a problem with you," I admitted, tossing the shortsword aside and pulling out my broadsword.

"Hey, whatever floats your boat. Just show me what you got and don't be afraid to hit a girl," she said, strapping on her claws. "Ready?"

"Ready," I didn't see her coming, but she was deadly fast and soon had me pinned to the ground in seconds, unbelievable. We both continued sparring with each other and I quickly adapted to evading and dodging her attacks. Her speed gave her the upper-hand and left me on defense while she clawed away at me. After three hours of fighting, I was soaked with sweat, my fur damp, but Alicia didn't break a sweat at all. We sat down for a break and she gave me extremely helpful tips, things I would consider next time.

I entered my room to see the still sleeping form of Silnis. The moon light from the window illuminated the room and gave it a tranquil mood. I fell down on the bed besides Silnis and took in his scent; wonderful as always. I had to stay strong and continue training, just for Silnis. I didn't want him to sacrifice anything more just for me. It was my turn to sacrifice for him.

3 Months Later...

*****

"Remember, keep yourself focused, always watch your opponent, and observe their attack patterns! Use what you know to your advantage and only then will you win!" Master Ren instructed to us. It's been three months since I've joined Master Ren's school and I'm proud of all the progress I've made. In that short amount of time, I had been moved to the rank of junior, won many battles, and sharpened my skills.

Silnis was still in his sleep like state, but strange things have been happening to him over the months. One night, I had returned from an exhausting day of training and was about to sleep when I noticed something odd about Silnis' hair. It had turned an unusual color of silver! At first I thought it was a trick of the moon light, but after slapping myself and splashing water on myself I saw that it was real.

Another time, I awoke one morning to find strange markings on Silnis' arm, back, and forehead. The ones on his arms were a series of swirls, intertwining and looping around his arm. The marking on his back showed a picture of a wolf's head with a human figure curled up inside it. His head marking was a triangle with chains going across it as if it was a lock or seal.

Carlos didn't know what was happening but guessed that it had something to do with how Silnis brought me back to life. That one spell had brought me back to life, but at what costs? Alexander and Silnis were the only ones who knew the risks of the spell, yet both of them are in deep slumber. It's been three months already yet they showed no sign of waking.

Master Ren dismissed us to our rooms, saying that our tests would be tomorrow and that we would have to pass to move up a rank. I had full confidence that I would pass. I had to, for Silnis. Returning to my room, I heard a loud thumping and a crash coming from it. Worried about Silnis, I slammed the door open and what I saw made my heart skip a beat. Silnis was awake! He was sitting on the floor with a broken clay pot next to him. I ran to him and embraced him tightly, tears welling up in my eyes.

"You're awake! You're finally awake!" I said, crying my heart out. I expected him to embrace me back but what I got shocked me.

Kain's Perspective \*\*\*\*\* "Who are you?" he asked. I pushed away from him, confused. Was he playing with me? If he was, then he was doing a good job at it. "Silnis, don't play with me like that please," I told him, studying his face. He was...

Kain's Perspective \*\*\*\*\*\* If I had warned Silnis earlier than this wouldn't have happened. Drake, the prince, took Silnis in his arms and ran out the door, a grin on his face. For a human he was incredibly fast and would've outran me had I not...

Dark Angel Ch.3

A town lay in ruins, and the corpses of both humans and furries littered the blood-soaked ground. I sat on the ground, a body in my arms. It was the body of a black wolf; he somehow looked so familiar to me. Who was he? I didn't know who he was but I...
