In to the Unknown Chapter One 1st time writing a story, trying to get used to writing stories, maybe a series I don't know, oh well, Enjoy! No yiff, will come later though. (hopefully) Any Halo fanatics saying I'm stealing a name from Halo; NO I AM NOT! Halo's unit is called the ODST Hell Jumpers, mine are just called ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Troops). _____________________________________________________________ I, am Lt. Col. Atreus, commanding officer a newly formed Imperial Guard regiment. I am aboard the battle barge, The Lance of the Emperor. My regiment, the ODST as it is called, is on a scouting mission for more planets The Imperium can inhabit and make peace and allies of the inhabitants, if they are not going to harm us and are willing to communicate.
839.M42 Scouting mission for other life forms and worlds: In Progress "Colonel, this planet here looks like a very good place to scout, sir." The planet the Captain is pointing at reminds me of the Catachan home world: luscious forest, wondrous valleys and mountains. 'At least the we'll feel at home, especially the Ogryns.' "Thank you, Captain. My men and I will use the grav-chutes to clear a landing zone for The Lance and our Thunder Hawk drop ships." "Yes sir. How many do you wish to deploy for the clearing?" "One platoon, Captain, and make sure you land us in this valley and try not to drown my men in that lake near by.? "Yes sir. Deployment will be in an hour sir."
"Lt. Samiel, your platoon and I are clearing an LZ for The Lance and the Thunder Hawks. We are dropping in 15, make sure every one is ready and get down to the grav-chutes." "Yes Sir! Alright you heard the man! We're dropping in 15, gather up your gear and ammo, it's time do what we were trained for!" A resounding "OOORAH!" came from the first platoons barracks as the men excitedly and nervously prepared for their first "one-way ticket" as it was called being shot from the ship from space over the planet towards the ground, and praying to the Emperor that your grav-chute survives the crash or you don't land anywhere that makes the trip a LITERAL one-way ticket.
An explosion, then weightlessness, then gravity pulling you and your chute down towards the earth of the unknown world below. I have done this many times before, when I was training at the bases on Catacha, Valhalla, and Cadia. We all had, but that was when we all knew what we were going to see, and where exactly where we were landing, but this is a new world, one that isn't friendly as our comrades home worlds, we are landing on hostile world, with unseen dangers, but the Emperor's on our side, thankfully that helped settle some of the uneasiness, then comes the- . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "By the throne! What in Emperor's name did I land on?" I open my eyes, and stare at some sort of wooden roof apparently made from the natural trees of the planet. I find myself wrapped in a primitive blanket in some sort of bedroom, I look to my right to find a fur like creature, a fox humanoid of some sort, silently sleeping. It was a female and apparently what ever I fell upon, this creature, found me, and most likely my units, and are now caring for these strange creatures that fell from the heavens. My sudden outburst of pain awoken the creature and it now stared at me with great curiosity and joy. And then it finally spoke: "Oh! You finally awaken. I thought you were in a coma or unconscious, hoping you did not die from your fall." She smiles and looks at me, By the Emperor this creature was simply magnificent! But my head ached and I passed out from the sudden excitement, in to the dream world I went thinking of the magnificent and beautiful creature that had found me and is now caring for me.
I awoke again, to what seemed like days were actually hours. I look to my right, no female fox to see me awake this time. I sigh and carefully get up from the bed I slept on, feeling my body making sure nothing was badly injured. "GAH! -growls-" My left arm is broken and is in a cast made from the wood and leaves of the trees. I hear foot steps approach my door and entered the same beautiful vixen from before enter and gasp to see that I was up. "Careful don't move too much, your arm is broken!" Yelling at me while putting down what appears to be my dinner. " So I have noticed." A long and uncomfortable silence falls for a moment then she remembers the food she brought in. "Here you should eat, it'll help you feel better." "Thank you miss..." "You can call me Josephine, and you are?" "I am Atreus, Lt. Col. Atreus of the 1st ODST Regiment." "You are a commander of an army? And what does ODST stand for?" "ODST stands for Orbital Drop Shock Troops, and yes I am the commander of that regiment, we were sent out here to look for more life forms and planets willing to communicate with us and trade." "And where is it you come from?" "My men and I come from many planets but from the empire of the Imperium, lead by our God-Emperor." "Oh. So you came to this world to talk and trade?" "Yes that was the plan and . . . Do you where any more people like me can be found? I seemed to have lost my Command Squad on our drop from our ship." "Ship? Do you mean the big creature in the sky sending little creatures back and forth from it to the ground?" "Yes! That is my ship! I think my men are looking for me since I am missing." She did not look all that to happy, it seems that my ship and its crew are scaring the living hell out of them, it was up to me to tell her and her people that it is ok before things go wrong. "Josephine, if you take me to the creature in the sky I'll stop it from sending little ones to and fro terrorizing your people." I looked at her with a concerned face that she looked at and then nodded. "But how will we do that? We have no way of reaching it from the ground." I looked at her with a wide grin on my face. " Oh, don't worry, I'll get us up there" And then produced a small short waved VOX, which to her looked like a black box, with knobs.
"Captain! Captain!" "Yes Vox-officer? What is it?" "Sir its Col. Atreus Sir! He's alive!" "Thank the Emperor, he's alive! What is he saying?" "He says to stop searching for him.... Send the other Thunder Hawks back, except one to search for a red flare." "...Do as he says... but send his command staff with it, I don't like the looks of it." "Yes sir."
"The Captain says he's calling them off except for one, which is the one I'm going to ride back on to my men and ship." Josephine looked a little relieved and scared that a "beast" was going to fly and land in to her village. "Josephine?" "Hmm?" "Where did you learn to speak Basic?" "Basic?" "Hmm, ah , umm, English?" "Oh! From the people like you." "Like me?" The Imperium has no records of ever being this far out nor has any traveler told of such a place. "What do you mean like me?" "Well they looked like you, talk like you, and were the one's taught us how to speak English." "Wait a minute, 'WERE'? as in they lived here before and now are dead?" "We don't know what happen to them, once they lived like us, then they started creating new things, and later they developed big villages as high as the eye cold see, then they disappeared, and there sky villages fell and this is what you see of what is now, Makia." I was completely dumbstruck and shocked. There were humans that lived here before, built cities and civilization, and then they completely vanished? How is that possible? Many possibilities were running through my mind, what finally broke me from my perplexed state was a growl from my stomach. "Heh, your right, I do need to eat." Finally remembering that she brought food for him earlier. Then as an uneasy silence fell over them, the fox with a sadden expression stood up to leave. "Wait, where are you going?" "I going to get your stuff, and tell the village to make an open space for the little creature that is going to pick you up." As she said this, there was sadness in her voice and eyes, it seems to me that her village has its own privacy here, what ever you do is what you do, but if it involves the village, then it's also the villages problem and that she didn't want me to leave. I thought this over, I finally made the decision to call off the search for a couple of days, when the short wave VOX crackled to life causing both of us to jump. "Colonel? Colonel! We are going to have to call off the search a storm is brewing up and we'll pick you up once it clears ~static~ I repeat ~static~ over?" Josephine lit up like that of a melta bomb and I couldn't help from smiling either. "Looks like I'm staying for awhile," I said with a chuckle, "Got any more food? I'm a bit hungry still." She smiled, and walked over, took the plate from before and left quickly returning with a new plate with the delicious food she cooked up. It was getting late and I had my share of the food as did she, and we both started to settle down and get ready for bed, she cover the source of the light in the room, which was these very illuminated rock, with a blanket and then a basket, then she walked over to me and kissed me good night. I flinched slightly and then kissed back, she then broke the kiss and left the room. 'She IS a magnificent creature.' I then sat there think of the vixen, then I hear the door open and saw the shadowy outline of the vixen enter my room again, and then slipped in to the bed with me! I shifted uncomfortably then relaxed, feeling the soft warm fur laying next to me, and then I drifted off to sleep, and the last thing I thought of before I slept was, 'I guess we have the same feelings for each other then?' _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- End of Chapter one ________________________________________________________________________ First story and I am new at this!
